Blood, red like fire

Miriel pricked her finger on the needle. It was more difficult to control her hroa now, when the bounduaries between her and not-her were fuzzy. Her mother had warned her it would be like this.

At least she didn't break or lose the needle. It had been part of a gift from Vaire herself. Miriel smiled, remembering how the Valie --- and not other than the Weaver herself --- complimented her work.

A red drop bloomed on her fingertip, and she put it to her lips, not willing to risk staining any of the threads. The blood was too hot, almost painful to touch. Warmth creeped down her arm too, up her forearm and deep inside her body.

It was a new kind of warmth, not like the soothing, accepting light of Trees or her husband's embrace. Not like steady fire of the hearth even. It was unlike anything she'd known before. Somehow more new than every new thing she'd experienced before, more new even than the shores of Aman when she'd seen them for the first time.

This child would be brilliant.

The realization came suddenly, from within the warmth, and both quickly passed, but she knew. Deep inside her, the fire grew.

--- a few days before ---

Vaire worked in silence. Or, to be more precise, she was silent.

The prisoner talked and talked, without much point, analyzing her tapestry and criticizing most of it. At least he did it in a brilliant prose, at least at times. So much form, so little meaning... But it had a certain poetry to it, and that was why she agreed to keep him company. Still, he was getting tiring.

"Dons't thou think that thou shouldst be reflecting on thine behavior instead of trying to give me advice on what is my calling?"

"I am reflecting indeed." He stretched out hand and the light of her shining fabric danced on his too-long, too-shiny fingernails, like starlight reflested in ice. "But tell me, are my deeds not the very thing that allowed the brilliance in your tapestries to bloom? Had I not freed you of the Lamps, what wouldst thou weave now?"

Did Melkor just compliment the Trees? Maybe he was indeed reflecting. Maybe he simply wanted to make a point. Probably the latter.

He kept talking. "As for this work being thine, do I not have a part in all of your skills? Is there anything I cannot do?"

'Be silent, for example', she thought, but didn't comment.

"Thou hast the perspective wrong again."

Vaire sighed. "Indeed, thou shouldst be reflecting instead."

Melkor actually stopped talking for some time. Was the perspective really wrong? Probably not. But she kept wondering.

"I have reflected on my deeds." he said in a solemn voice. "And it occurred to me that I should do more than that. As I have said, I have a share in all the skills of all the Valar. Let me help thee. I shall make the perspective correct."

"I won't let thee spoil my work," she said. "Make thine own."

He probably offered the 'help' only to show off, but maybe not? Maybe Melkor was indeed trying to be helpful, finally? Anyway what could go wrong with letting him work? At worst he'd waste some of her thread.

Vaire narrowed her eyes, trying to find out what was wrong with the perspective in Melkor's tapestry. Something was wrong, definitely. She wouldn't hang it. But at least, he'd worked for some time, and did not complain.

The prisoner's question interrupted her thoughts. "Did Aule made those needles? they seem too beautiful to be his work," he said, giving Vaire's tools back to her.

"I shall not let thee talk badly about Aule."

"As you will, o lady of this prison. But heed my advice: keep those needles to thyself, as I do not believe that anyone would be able to replace them in case someone was to steal them. Not even I."

Even without the fake humility at the end, the attempt to make her possesive was just too obvious.

Vaire smiled. She'd give all of her best needles as gifts to the Eldar. No, to one Elda. Miriel definitely deserved it.

But Melkor did not have to know. She would him think he'd won this tiny battle.

The dark Vala smiled too.

seeing just how seriously the andrastian and chantry lore is taken by the writers makes me pissed off that bioware not only dismissed the dalish at every turn but that it also did away completely with their religion

#like. i forgot just how interesting the roles of right and left hand of the divine are. how cool some of the andraste stories are #and her iconography and etc etc #and we could've gotten so much interesting stuff with the dalish. like learning more abt the arlathvhen #or how the high keepers of the dales became that and what their roles were and how they worked together #did the elgar'nan keeper have some kind of final say in religious stuff or were all the high keepers equal?? what abt the iconography creat #during this time?? the written works the murals the statues????#what abt other stories abt the elven gods?? obviously a lot of it was lost after the fall of arlathan #but more of it must've been saved than just. the same vague concepts of ''june taught the elves the art of the craft'' and whatever else #it would've also been so interesting to get to know how the elves and their religion got to coexist together #when they were not scattered nomadic people. did they make temples to every single god?? was there a temple for all of them with maybe a #statue or some other division?? were vallaslin ceremonies grander events??#did the high keepers get a say in who received their vallaslin and who didn't?? did they have the same criteria for being eligible for one?#sigh. idk i just love the dalish so much and it's really sad and. kind of insulting that we're never going to get a serious answer #or some serious worldbuilding abt the elven gods the dalish the dales etc

a great way to combat genAI in the future would be educating kids (and teens and college students and all ppl) on art way more.

#i had art classes growing up but i know a lot of ppl didn't and even less kids get art classes nowadays #we need all kinds of art classes too! music and history and painting and woodshop and drawing and life drawing #i think art history is especially important bc it connects us to our past and shows why art is so important #and all kinds of art classes help kids develop different important skills #like fine motor skills and critical thinking and making choices and noticing details and how to really SEE things rather than just looking #and a lot of art skills like woodworking and ceramics and sewing are all very practical basic adult skills that we should all get to learn #there's reasons arts and crafts and other skill based electives are the first to go and its not just bc they're undervalued #its cause a population that feels capable and confident and skilled and knows how to think critically #is harder to make work shitty jobs for shitty pay #harder to control!#same reason they're banning so many books and trying to make education worse #damn maybe i should learn how to teach better #im already planning to at least try doing a workshop for adults but maybe if i end up liking that #i could work towards being able to teach kids #i feel like teaching kids would be harder cause idk what concepts they do or dont know at whatever age they are #id have to do research and maybe talk to someone who has experience teaching art to kids #but even a simple art class would be beneficial i think #like going outside to draw things in nature maybe #or portrait drawing #or a class on how to make comics or animate on paper to impress their friends lol #i would've loved that!#id have to do that with the help of another teacher maybe #idk #vague future plans #anyway the reason education would help combat ai is cause ppl would learn abt what goes onto making art #all the choices and skills and thought #and they'd be able to more easily see the difference btwn real art and ai images and understand why making art is important

Figured it might be fun to tease what I'm currently working on at the moment with materials I have already at my disposal. I decided to make a fan plush of Barnaby B. Beagle from Welcome Home for a challenge since I never really attempted something with a bowler hat before. For a first time hat making, I think I did pretty well on that part. Next up will be making Barnaby himself since the vest is gonna take a bit of time to figure out how to tackle.
