After a VERY long hiatus in this series... Tiana and Time!! I wanted to do something sweet and nostalgic feeling for this one, and i had the idea to do some southerners cooking together!! I imagine that Time wanted to make a sweet surprise for Malon, and Tiana was more than happy to help out, since food is Naveen's love language too! I did a fun, 1920's style, almost flapper outfit design, since i couldn't find a specific dress of hers that i thought was fitting for the scene lol 😂
i think tiana and time would be wonderful friends! also, malon and time and tiana and naveen could go on double dates and talk about their silly spouses and also their crazy life stories!! malon and tiana would make the best food too!
on a more serious note, time and tiana do have a lot of similarities; they both value hard work and the importance of family, as well as both having traumatic transformation experiences (cough cough Majora's Mask). Time had his own Bayou Adventure a la the Jungle Cruise in Majora's Mask. both have had odd experiences with strange voodoo like magic, and both had to learn the value of finding love despite their difficult upbringings. overall, i love that you guys picked this pairing!! 🩵
oh, by the way... i headcanon that Malon has a sweet tooth because 1) it just fits her personality, and 2) i imagine that she probably snuck some sugar cubes for epona and herself when she was a little girl (based off of my own personal experience with horses when i was little 😂🤭)

Hi!!! It’s the speedrun anon that talked about Wild fighting Ganon with a pot lid and spoon :3
I am so happy you wrote a lil series on my idea!!! It really means a lot ❤️
I had another idea, because I’m crazy—in the Linked Universe comic, when Twilight gets hit by Dink and is basically dying, I was thinking about his wound and how they treated it…
Since it takes place in Medieval times, how clean was the actual wound before Hyrule started healing it?? A fun idea I had was: Ikesai!Reader using modern medicine to help treat Twilight (and the others as they traveled)
Pain meds, Neosporin, bandaids with fun patterns on them—maybe even a first aid kit if they knew they were going somewhere dangerous. Reader would treat small cuts and they’d heal quicker overtime without using magic. It saves a lot of time, energy, and money for the group; Hyrule doesn’t have to use his magic as much, potions aren’t wasted on smaller wounds, and none of they’re wounds are infected!!
I feel like the climax of reader using these methods would be Twilight’s injury; they ask Wars to go to the nearest bar and grab the strongest alcohol there, they ask Legend for a needle and some fishing line, and ask Hyrule to using magic to numb the pain of the wound.
Unwrapping Twilight’s bandages, with alcohol and needle in hand, Reader begins to sew up Twilight’s wound. It’s crude and disgusting, using only found objects and most likely mead to sterilize the needle and fishing line. Most would leave the room, but Hyrule would have to basically sit there and watch this random person sew up a wound like they were fixing a tear in fabric.
Once the wound is sewn up and cleaned, it looks a lot better than it did before. There is still the strange magic surrounding the cut but at least it’s closed up now. Reader’s hands are bloodly and smell like mead, but at least Twilight’s wound isn’t making him bleed out.
It healed quicker once Hyrule began to use healing magic on him again, the dark magic around the wound is in a more condensed area so it’s easier to dispel. The only problem…is that Reader has to take out the thread, and this time, Twilight’s awake.
—🌾 Anon (I’ve never named myself in anonymous I hope that’s okay :))
Yay! My first emoji anon :D Sorry this took so long! I got way too carried away learning about medieval medicine lol. I kind of skipped right to when Twi's injured because it was already 2k words long and an intro would have most likely doubled the word count askdfsl.
“Shit. Shit. Shit.” You chant it like a mantra. The entire way back to the village. The entire time it took to drag Twilight off Epona and up the stairs as Time arranges your lodging with the innkeeper.
“I’m fine. It’s just a scratch.” Twilight tells you for the fifth time. He still seems cross that he was benched from the fight, but his voice has much less bite behind it now.
You’re losing him.
“It is not ‘just a scratch,’ Link!” You scold. You can feel tears prick at the corner of your eyes. The use of his real name seems to bring him back a bit, but his eyes are still too unfocused for your liking.
Too much blood. He’s lost too much blood.
You remove one of your hands from his side, where you had been trying desperately to apply pressure to the wound. Your entire hand is soaked in blood.
“Press down here, okay.” You move Twilight’s hand to where yours had been, only taking your other hand off when you’re sure he’s properly applying pressure. “Don’t stop, okay? I’ll be right back.”
Before he can answer, you bolt out of the room and back down the stairs. You run headfirst into Time.
“Woah! Careful,” he says. He looks at your hands, covered in blood past the wrists, and winces. He holds up a pile of white cloth. “I got bandages from the innkeeper.”
“That’s not going to be enough.” You scrunch up your nose at the bandages. They looked clean, but you doubt they were properly sterilized. The one drawback to having fairies and potions magically heal everything is that these people had absolutely no idea how to treat a wound without them. “Go to the kitchen and get vinegar and honey. And see if the innkeeper has any silk thread. If not, try whatever craft store equivalent you guys have.”
Time can only watch as you take the bandages from his hands and rush back up the stairs. After a quick stop to wash your hands, you practically sprint back to the room.
Twilight is still conscious when you get back, thank Hylia, but he doesn’t turn his head to look at you when you come in.
“I’m back.” You tell him as you kneel next to the bed.
“Don’t sound so worried. It’s not like I’m going anywhere,” He smiles. “You were only gone for 30 seconds.”
“You were coughing up blood, Twi!” You peel his shirt away from the wound and quickly press some of the bandages Time had given you against the wound. It would have to do for now. “That means that the thing cracked your ribs and one of those ribs punctured your lungs.”
“I’m pretty sure the fairy took care of that.” He winces as you press even harder against the cut.
The blood won’t stop.
Before you can descend into hopelessness, the door bursts open. You jump at the noise, and turn to see Hyrule in the doorway, with Four close behind. They both look out of breath.
“So it’s true… it really is him.” Hyrule gasps. “I think I can help.”
“Fairy didn’t do anything.” You sigh, removing one of your hands to wipe the hair away from your face. The color drains from the two heroes' faces when they see the blood.
“I have a life spell.” Hyrule’s palms glow blue as he hovers them over Twilight’s body.
Nothing happens.
His brow furrows as he tries again. He thrusts his hands forward.
Nothing.
“No!” Hyrule cries. Twilight seems to have finally passed out from the blood loss.
“Crap,” you mutter. “Where the heck is Time with that thread and antiseptic.”
“Here.” The old man in question pushes past Four, who seems to be clinging to the doorway for support. He hands you a bottle of vinegar, a jar of honey, and a spool of silk thread with a needle stabbed into the side.
“Great, thanks.” You nod at him. “Rulie, keep that spell going if you can. The wound may not be healing but he had some internal injuries that I want to make sure won’t be an issue. The fairy stopped halfway through and I’m not about to do DIY surgery to remove shattered rib pieces from his lungs.”
Hyrule presses his lips together in a thin line and nods. His hands glow once more as he performs the life spell. You peel away the bandages you had been pressing against Twilight’s side.
“Sorry, buddy. This is going to sting,” you apologize, then pour the water from your canteen over the wound. The old blood washes away, only to be replaced rather quickly by more from the cut.
“What are you doing?” Time asks when you pick up the needle and thread.
“Stitches.” Is all you say as you hold the needle over the candle on the nightstand. Hopefully the heat will disinfect it somewhat.
“You're just going to… what, sew him back together like a torn shirt?” Four looks ready to puke as you begin sewing the wound. Time looks away, trying to ignore the faint sound of the needle sliding through bloody flesh. Hyrule can’t seem to look away, gaze locked on your hands.
“Magic isn’t working to close it,” you grimace. “This is how we close large wounds back home.”
“I know you said you didn’t have any magic where you lived, but this…” Hyrule swallows, hands still over Twilight as he casts the life spell.
“I think I’m going to be sick.” Four covers his mouth with one hand as you continue your work. “I’ll go see Epona is comfortable or something.” He rushes down the stairs so fast you’re surprised he doesn’t trip down them.
“Eh. Probably for the better. Too many people in here probably isn’t a good idea right now, anyway,” you cut the thread, satisfied with your stitches. They looked almost professional, with nice, even spacing. But you would have time to be proud later. Time to make sure infection didn’t get in there.
“How long will he be out for?” Time makes a point to look only at your face as he asks the question. Maybe he should leave, too. Watching you couldn’t be good for his health.
“Hard to tell. He’s lost a lot of blood,” you explain as you pour the vinegar into the honey and mix it together. “Do fairies and life spells fix blood loss?”
“I have… no idea,” Hyrule lowers his hands. He looks exhausted. He must have expended every last bit of energy casting that life spell for this long. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen a wound bleed this long.”
“Great,” you groan. Hopefully the magic could deal with the blood loss like it dealt with broken ribs and punctured lungs, because there was no way to tell anyone’s blood type here and you did NOT want to play roulette with a blood transfusion.
“What are you doing?” Time asks again. His voice is tense as you begin spreading the vinegar-honey mixture over Twilight’s wound. You have half a mind to kick him out of the room right there, but he’s technically the family of the patient. Still, if he was going to breathe down your neck the whole time you wouldn’t have much choice.
“It will keep out infections. The vinegar and honey are really good at keeping bacteria out,” you wipe your hands off on your pants, trying to get as much of the honey off your hands as possible before reaching for your canteen again. You wash your hands again, just to be safe, before reaching for the pile of remaining bandages.
“Bacteria? What’s that?” Hyrule asks.
“Very, very small organisms that can cause infections if they get into the wound,” you sigh. You don’t have the time to explain germ theory to them right now. You wrap the bandages around Twilight’s abdomen as tightly as possible. Vinegar-honey oozes from under the bandages, and even now, you can see the deep red of Twilight’s blood seeping through.
Crap. This was going to be a long night.
The next few days pass in a blur. Check the wound. Change the bandages. Try to measure Twilight’s heart rate with just your hand and a watch (his pulse seems okay. Hyrule’s spell must be dealing with the blood loss). Shoo people out of the room. Check the wound. Change the bandages. Try not to fall asleep.
When you’re not watching over Twilight, you’re taking care of an exhausted Hyrule. Using the spell so much for so long was taking a toll on him. He looked about as tired as you felt.
Still, Twilight was improving. Most of the color was back in his cheeks, and he kept waking up to say random depressing things before passing back out. Maybe that's why you finally let yourself drift off into sleep, sat on a stool and slumped over the side of the bed.
The feeling of someone rubbing your hair wakes you.
“Y/N?”
Your eyes snap open. Twilight is awake. He’s propped up against the headboard of the bed, his fingers threaded through your hair.
“Please tell me you slept while I was out,” he laughs, but his smile doesn't reach his eyes. He’s worried about you.
Hey! That was your job!
“You scared me half to death!” You sit up and punch his shoulder. Now that he’s finally awake, you have an earful and a half to give him. “What on earth were you thinking, sprinting towards that thing!?”
“Ow,” he chuckles.
“Don’t worry. The old man and the captain already chewed him out,” Wild snickers from somewhere behind you. Looking around, you see the entire chain scattered about the room.
“Good,” you flop your head back onto the mattress. Your eyes still ache from so many sleepless nights. “How long was I out?”
“Nearly half a day,” Legend snickers.
“Crap,” you groan. Twilight’s bandages should have been changed hours ago. “Did anyone change the bandages? Please tell me you washed your hands before. Oh, and did you apply the antiseptic?”
“Easy there, doc,” Warriors places a hand on your shoulder. “The wound has pretty much closed thanks to you and Hyrule.”
“WHAT?” You bolt upright again. “It should have taken at least a week, maybe two!”
“Magic finally started working on it while you were out,” Hyrule explains. Great. Just great.
“Then I need to take the stitches out,” you press your knuckles into your eyelids, trying to dispel your pounding headache.
“Stitches?” Wind asks.
“They sewed him back together like a garment,” Four grimaces.
“But then shouldn’t the stitches stay in and keep him… together?” Sky peers around your shoulder as you unwrap the bandages. He gags when he sees the cut, which was now just a long red line across Twilight’s stomach and lower chest. Wind tries to elbow his way to see as well, but Sky stops him.
You get up to wash your hands, and when you come back, Twilight is poking at the stitches.
“Don’t touch it!” You swat his hand away. “I didn’t make my own antiseptic for you just so you could infect the cut after it’s mostly healed!”
“You really did just… sew me closed,” he sounds shocked.
“Yep. Now hold still,” you carefully cut each stitch, removing the thread, small beads of blood forming where the stitches used to be. He winces at the feeling. Time watches closely, knuckles white as he grips the footboard of the bed.
“Woah. All that was inside his skin?” Wind stares dumbfoundedly at the pile of knots you removed. You nod, and keep working.
“There,” you sigh as the last bit of thread is removed. “Just keep the area clean and you should be good.”
“Do you do this every time people get hurt in your world?” Legend raises an eyebrow.
“No. Stitches are just for bigger cuts,” you explain.
There’s a moment of silence before Wind speaks up.
“Can I get stitches?” He asks excitedly. A chorus of nine voices responds.
“No!”
Notes:
Vinegar has antiseptic properties, while alcoholic drinks do not due to their low alcohol percentage. Honey, an ingredient found in mead, has some antiseptic properties, meaning mead also could be used to disinfect a wound, but a combination of honey and vinegar seems to be more effective.
Today, most stitches are made of synthetic fibers. Fishing line is also made of synthetic fibers, like nylon. However, in the medieval period, fishing line was most likely made of nettle-hemp. Today, fishing line would be a great material for stitches. However, I think silk, which is still occasionally used today, might be a better option (silk was also used to make fishing line, but it seems only after the industrial revolution got started).
Also, stitches don’t hurt coming out. I had stitches in my foot (a pretty sensitive area) as a kid. I also have an incredibly low pain tolerance and an intense fear of needles. You can kind of feel them pull, and if you’re squeamish you might freak yourself out, but it definitely doesn’t hurt. Although, I once heard of a doctor that didn’t undo the knots, thus pulling the entire thread of knots through the skin, which would absolutely hurt like hell, but that was because of his incompetence lol.
I made it so reader doesn't see the magic around the cut, as I think isekai and modern readers would have a harder time noticing it. We don't have magic, so we would probably not recognize it if we saw or felt it. It is still very much there.

Written in the stars (forever on loop) chapter six - Black hole sun
Tumblr media
Pairing: pre poly!chain x reader, Wind & reader
Rating: T
Summary: Your group finds a town which gives you the chance to visit the local library, it also gives Four the chance for a peer review and Time the chance to spiral. Dark Link watches from the shadows and you experienced another strange dream. (Aka: Dink kicks down the door to drop some lore and be in love, Four gets a turn to break down, reader ignores evidence, and I need to pay for the chain's therapy.)
Warnings: cursing, grief, plotting, possessiveness (Dink and Dreader/ Onyx)
Other: If I missed anything please let me know
Current curse counter: two :)
Previous masterlist next
-------
The group of you all find the next town the evening after your talk with Legend. It's a small thing by your standards but a large town by hylian standards. Watching most of the group get dragged away on side quests to help the residents within the first ten minutes isn't a surprise.
Time, Wind, and you are the only ones not dragged into work, and of course, Epona is with you.
You look around, able to read everything despite it being in hylian and not any language you remember learning. This goes promptly in the 'examine after your the boys leave' pile. This pile is always growing lately. It could probably build a fairly good giant sand castle at this point.
Wind stands on your other side, doing something to a small trinket of some sort in his hand.
"Are you going to be okay here?" Time asks you stiffly.
You nod, "I should be. Are you going to be okay on the road?"
Time gives you a strained smile, as if he's going through the motions. "We'll be fine. We've faced worse."
"That dosen’t mean it's easy, but I hope you're all able to go home soon," you say, trying your best to convey sympathy.
"Thank you. I hope you make it home soon too." Time says.
He dosen’t sound right. Something about the cadence of his words is wrong. Very wrong.
You can't name it, but it makes your brain scream.
It makes you want to wrap him up in a hug. It makes you want to ask him if he's hurt. You don't do either.
Wind has hisntounge poking out when you glance ovedthis time. At least he seems okay.
"I should probably try to do that, I don't want to be on buzzfeed unsolved." You say with a half shrug.
"I - have no idea what that is." Time frowns.
"It's a buzz feed series - It's like a video show about unsolved things." You try to explain, quickly realizing that you have to explain what a video is.
"Video?" Wind asks, finally piping up from where he's been fiddling with something in his hand.
"Like a moving picture with sound."
"That seems strange." Time says.
You have to bite back the laugh.
The man who can time travel, summon storms, summon a horse, and heal with a song thinks a moving picture sounds strange? The world of Zelda is bizzare.
Nope, we will examine that 'world of Zelda' bit later.
"There's a lot about my world that is probably strange to you," you offer.
"Perhaps," Time says.
"No, definitely. I think if you saw what light pollution has done to the night sky, you'd riot," You smile a little at the thought.
Time turns his gaze to you, heavy as ever. "What is light pollution?"
"Too much light blocks out the stars."
"How strange." Time says.
"That sounds made up," Wind scoffs.
You shrug, "That's how it's always been."
"Your world sounds wild," Wind laughs.
"You would love how to train your dragon, sailor," you grin, fairly confident in the idea.
"Dragons?" Wind frowns, looking somewhere between intrigued and disgusted.
Time also seems less than pleased. "Dragons are not easily trained."
"It's - like a video story."
"How odd. Tell me, does your world have a hero?" Time asks.
You aren't sure how to answer that. There's so many answers and viewpoints.
Time and Wind both watch you.
Time has an exhaustion you can't understand. There's a grief that you only ever see turned on you that's deeper than the grief he wears at all times.
Wind seems curious, with bright eyes and rapt attention.
"Sort of... There's no tri-force or anything like that back home. But heroes exist."
"No tri force?" Wind asks.
"Only in the stories." You say.
"Stories." Time muses.
"Is there a ganon?" Wind asks.
"Only in stories."
"Count yourself lucky." Time says.
Traveling with them, you definitely find yourself greatful that there's no Ganon nack home.
"I do." You say honestly. "Ganon is a real piece of work."
"He is." Time nods.
Wind laughs. "Sword through the head works wonders."
You snort, recalling that particular moment in the game - examine that later. "I'm sure."
"What's going on with you and Legend he went from being a major fucking asshole to stiff but friendly.... or friendly for him," Wind wonders to you.
"Languagyou. Time hisses.
"I'm a pirate!"
"We talked... He apologized. It's not perfect but he's obviously stopped being an asshole." You shrug.
"I'm glad. He was being rather rude," Time says.
You have to ignore the urge to roll your eyes. Time hasn't been too much better. He just hasn't been hostile.
The man has been a silent weight that's stiff and formal and distant.
"You've all been asses," Wind rolls his eyes.
You bite your cheek. At least Wind is on your side.
"Sailor." Time says with a world-weary sigh that might as well start in his toes.
"It's fine, Wind," you say quickly, not wanting to be the cause of any issues.
Wind rolls his eyes again. "You shouldn't let people treat you bad."
"Wind," you sigh, "It's okay. Time hasn't been bad to me."
"Whatever." The teen scoffs.
Time sighs, slow and heavy. "We'll talk later, Wind. (Y/n), I apologize if I have treated you poorly."
"It's okay. I think I'm going to go check out the library, I'll see you guys at dinner?" You ask.
"Of course." Time says.
You detach from the two heroes and make your way to the library, hoping to get some sort of answer about anything. Maybe they have something to explain the portals, or the dreams, or how you are in a video game world.
Alright, again, we aren't examining that until after the boys leave.
You smile at the librarian and go to the shelves to see what you can find.
There isn't anything too promising, but you find a book titled 'tales of heroes: a children's story collection'. There's that curiosity that wells up from where ever it is the dreams and half memories originate from.
You take out the book and go to sit at a table alone.
It's the introduction that makes your brain pause, something telling you that the words are important. That the words hold answers.
You just don't understand how yet...
' When you read the stories ahead, I caution you that they are centuries old and also aimed at children, but they stay true to the spirit. When you read these stories, you will see the soulmate of the hero never lives long, but how lucky is it to have a soulmate who reincarnates with you every time?
They say that the shadow version of the hero was created with a shadow version of the soulmate.
These stories are an ode to our heroes, princesses, and everyone else who has ever helped save our world. When you read them, may you find your own courage to pursue whatever you desire. '
Wow.
Okay.
First of all, the fact that the stories are passed down is good, your the heroes deserve that and more.
Secondly, the soulmate thing is new. You've played the games, read the lore, and seen playthroughs... but this is the first time you've ever heard of a recurring soulmate.
It dosen’t sound like the princesses are the soulmate either...
Since when does Link have a soulmate?
Maybe you can find more about this?
Is it rude to go looking?
Why does the soulmate never live long?
If it's common knowledge and in a children's book.... does it cross a line to learn more?
In theory, you won't see the boys again after they leave anyway... and you have always had a hard time ignoring your own curiosity....
You shut the book before standing to go see if you can find anything else about this supposed soulmate to the hero.
You're able to find quite a few things, especially after checking the 'triforce' section. You sit yourself down and start wading through everything you can.
' In the ever reincarnating cycle that is the triforce wielders, there is a soulmate to the hero that joins them every lifetime. Many believe that Ganon or whoever is following Demise targets the soulmate every time.
There is no proof of whether the soulmate truly dies early or simply steps out of the public light each time, and the further back in history, the more muddy the details get.
Many believe the soulmate is a late add-on to the already muddied stories of barely remembered heroes.
The most frequent account of the soulmate regards them as being named (Y/n), and they are often depicted as kind and loyal to the hero. '
Woah. Okay. Apparently, you have the same name as this soulmate. That's weird.
That... might explain the reaction the chain had to your name when you met, too.
If this is real, you think it's better that the media in your world never mentioned the soulmate... fans get a little strange sometimes.
You keep reading, there's so many questions you have now, but frustratingly few answers.
Any answers you do manage to find are either repeated everywhere or incredibly vauge. Sometimes both.
Apparently, most of this was passed down orally.
-------
After dinner, Time finds himself pacing in his room, mind entirely too loud. He is so - Time is tired of everything. All he wants is his lover. All he wants is his dearest.
Here he is, though, leading a group of heroes to hunt after an enemy he thought slain while juggling grief and duty.
Oh, it isn't your fault.
Time knows that.
But your presence is digging up a loss he thought he was over.
(How could he ever actually be over it? He spent a year of time loops trying to change their fate. He never ceased to fail...)
You are the best and worst ghost he's ever seen. You sound and act like his lost love, and yet you are not them.
If you were... You'd have thrown yourself into his arms when you saw him.
Though... his lover never did see him this old... did they? They didn't live much past twenty...
You aren't them, though. You would have recognized him by now.
You are the closest to them he will ever get now.
He groans lowly, pulling his hands down his face.
Hiding and pacing aren't going to handle his problems. He should really be checking on you and making sure you have enough gear to be okay on your own for a while.
He's a hero. He's a leader.
He already failed you when he let you get sent away with Epona.
You got ambushed all alone!
He was glad he found you and that you were still standing... but he still failed you.
Failure is not a luxury he can afford, it hasn't been since her was a boy the first time.
Time takes a deep breath and sets his shoulders. He has a responsibility to you as a hero to make sure you are going to be okay.
He leaves his room, going towards where he can hear Wind leading a sea shanty.
He hopes that you are near the sailor as you often are.
You prove him right, laughing next to Wind as he struts around on a table, leading the tavern in a sea shanty about drunken sailors.
Your laugh is the best and worst sound he's faced in a while.
He knows he should move, but he can't make himself.
Here, without you looking at him like a man you barely know, he can pretend that you're his lost lover.
Time lets himself pretend a moment that you're his Beloved.
He lets himself pretend they are here on this adventure with him, laughing as they cheer on the youngest of the group. Smiling as they clap along to a beat.
He lets himself pretend that they just haven't noticed him yet, and when they do, they'll run to him.
Time is a fool, a fact he knows all too well.
When you see him, your smile loses some of its brilliance. You offer a weak little wave to him.
Time waves back, heart cracking further still. He works his jaw to keep from letting his grief show. (He fails.)
He turns around and leaves because he can't look at you again without breaking. He will always be that scared little boy who had to rewind time over and over and over to finally save a town.
Time will always fall short, and others will always pay the price.
He supposes all he can do is try even harder next time.
Maybe his Beloved can forgive him for all his mistakes.
Maybe he can find a way to make up for everything.
-------
Dark sits in the shadows of the forest around the town, his darling lamb - Onyx - to his right. He holds their hand in his own, idily swiping his thumb across the back of their hand.
He allows himself to bask in the shadow and in the presence of his darling lamb. How he has missed them, the years without them have been nothing but torture.
Their place at his side being filled is a soothing balm to his festering soul.
He can't stop marveling at the ethereal beauty that is his darling lamb.
"Once your goody two shoes counter part is left behind, we can focus on tearing the heroes apart," Dark says with a sharp smile.
Onyx gives a hum, leaning their head against his shoulder. "Thank Demise, the heroes have been so obnoxious."
"I'm sure, being stuck in (Y/n)'s shadow until you were strong enough to move, you saw far more than I."
"I'm still mad about that," They say as they squeeze his hand.
It isn't quite mean, but it's tighter than usual. Perhaps a warning, perhaps only checking to be sure he is real.
"I know," he assures as he returns their squeeze.
The solid shadowy flesh in his grasp is cool to the touch and a perfect reassurance it's all real. He's had to many dreams of Onyx only to wake alone.
He both loves and hates those dreams.
"I meant what I said. If you ever send me away like that again, I will stay gone. Don't you ever fucking do that to me again," Onyx turns to give him a dirty look even as they lean against him.
The spite and dark promise in their voice is a beautiful steel blade that he will never tire of witnessing them wield.
How lucky he is to be given such warnings from his darling lamb. They never warn others, preferring the satisfaction of surprising others with their vengeful plans.
Dark smiles softer, the way he only does for them. "You won't get away from me again."
"Good. Being in that magicless realm was horrible."
"I know." Dark sighs, moving to press a kiss to their head. "I know, my darling lamb."
Onyx sighs heavily, "You're still a fucking asshole for sending me to that stupid realm."
"I won't do it again," He says.
He dosen’t apologize, he probably never will. He does know that he won't do it again, not when it weakened his sweetheart so much.
But he can't make himself be sorry for attempting to save them.
"Good." They say as they scoot a little closer.
"We need to get the heroes away from (Y/n), then I think we shall overwhelm the men with a few gleeocks," Dark muses, raising their hands up to press a kiss to the back of his darling lamb's hand.
Onyx laughs, delight drips from the sound. "Electric?"
"Of course."
"Good. They deserve it, they have no idea that their soulmate is right here and they're being fucking dicks."
"I don't doubt it."
"Thank Demise you saved them from those Lizafos."
Dark huffs, using his free hand to run through his hair. "Sending their soulmate away on a horse without the ability to fight atop a horse was reckless and incredibly poor planning."
Onyx laugh again, darker and meaner. Eyes crinkling with mirth they say, "They are the bumbling heroes."
He snorts, squeezing their hand in his once. "I wouldn't care if your life were not on the line too, darling lamb."
"You're a true saint, Dark," They roll their eyes, squeezing his hand back anyway.
"Only for you."
They hum once, low and pleased. "Good, I don't share."
"Neither do I."
They turn their silver eyes up to him, shadowy form flickering a little in the gentle breeze. They still haven't leveled out their magic levels, but they are better than when they arrived yesterday.
They offer him a sharp, borderline, vicious smile. As beautiful as it is deadly. "My strong man. Shall we arrange those gleeocks?"
Dark feels his chest swelling with pride and affection like flowers in the damnable season of spring. "Anything you want, my darling lamb, you shall have."
"And if I want your heart?" They ask sweetly, as if they don't already know.
"I shall serve it to you on a platter," He informs sincerely, giving them a soft look that is only ever for them.
They preen at that, moving to press a kiss to his cheek. "I think I prefer you alive over physically possessing what is already Mine."
"How generous."
Onyx scoffs, "Only for My beloved viper."
Dark hums, letting himself smile at them. He has never much enjoyed being owned. He is nothing but a pet to Demise some days... but he dosen’t mind belonging to them.
Why should he?
Onyx is His. They are his to cherish and protect through Any Means Necessary.
What is love if not reciprocation of all you are gifted? What is love, if not the willingness to do what you need to even when it hurts?
"Oh, my darling lamb, I shall not waste my time with you. Perhaps we will get a longer go around."
"I'm not so sure... That pirate already really likes (Y/n). The curse very well may already be tripped."
"That blasted curse! Of course, the heroes manage to trip it."
Onyx hums, sitting up and turning to fully face Dark. "We'll figure it out."
"Once we take down the heroes, Demise will break that damnable curse. Your life force will no longer be tied to the Hero's soulmate's. Never again will you face death," Dark declares with a grandeur he must have learned from Demise.
His lover just laughs a little, softer with him. They are always softer with him. "I look forward to eternity with you."
"And I with you."
Onyx leans in, pressing a kiss to his lips before pulling away with a vicious smile. "Let's finish this."
Dark returns their smile, wondering how he got so lucky to have such a spiteful sweetheart. "I think I like that plan."
"Good."
-------
Four finds himself alone finally in the night as he settles near the town garden. He lets the night air flit about as he finally lets out a deep, slow sigh that has his shoulders dropping.
His mind is still too loud. The colors all have their own thoughts, but being alone is far better than he expected.
He groans as he stands by the garden, looking up at the sky.
Splitting will help the headache, at least...
Maybe it will help the emotions, too.
He straightens up and holds his sword up to the sky.
With a flash of light, Four is split into his colors, and the headache of a week is gone.
"This is bullshit!" Blue hisses as he kicks the ground with a glare.
Green sighs heavily, "Blue, we can't control these things."
"I know this is hard, but we got (Y/n) to a town, and they'll be safe here," Red chimes.
Red offers a weak smile, as if trying to convince himself as well as the others.
Blue groans loudly, dropping his head back even as he stands. "So? The only good thing is we're leaving them behind."
Blue!" Green hisses.
Vio sighs, pinching the bridge of his nose. "No wonder I have to take control around them."
"Be nice," Green chides with a heavy tone.
Red sighs, "Guys, we've already gotten through the hard part!"
Blue rolls his eyes and shoots a glare to the optimist. "How do you want to go on knowing there's a perfect copy of them?"
"What choice do we have?" Vio challenges as he raises one brow.
He would like to know. Ehst other option is there but to suck it up and keep going?
"I don't know!" Blue scoffs, throwing his hands up.
"Guys, please," Green sighs.
"We have to figure something out. We can't keep going the way we have been," Vio crosses his arms.
Red bites his lip, raking his brain for some sort of helpful idea. Repression isn't working, obviously, but what else is there?
Perhaps there's crying?
There is also sleeping until things suck less, but that's not sustainable.
"Why don't we talk about it?" Green suggests.
"Yeah!" Red agrees immediately.
The relief that floods Red at not having to offer a solution is immediate, which makes his throat feel thick anyway.
"You want to talk about it?" Blue scoffs and rolls his eyes, "I'll fucking talk about it."
"Go for it," Vio motions to the ground with one hand while watching the other.
Blue gives a dirty glare. "Our soulmate is fucking dead and there's a perfect copy who isn't them. I miss our soulmate, Vio. I really fucking miss them and I am so fucking mad that they aren't actually here!"
Red frowns, hugging himself. "Blue, we all miss them."
"Yeah, I know. But it's like our soulmate is right there! But they fucking aren't! They're still gone and this is just another fuck you from the goddesses!" Blue snarls as he balls his fists up and starts to shake.
Green winces, realizing just how much they've actually been repressing.
If Blue is this worked up... it's no good.
That can only mean they are even worse off than they thought.
"You can't be mad at (Y/n)... They didn't do anything wrong," Red says with a sigh.
"I'm not mad at them! I'm mad that they're fucking with our heads because we're too fucking stupid to stop missing someone!" Blue crosses his arms again, nails digging into his arms
Green sets a hand on his brother's shoulder, trying to will something softer to the other. All he wants is to help Blue...
Vio sighs. "So we should get it all out there then? I am barely holding on because the resemblance to our angel is too much to bear."
"You're telling me," Blue huffs, letting his hands loosen against his arms.
Red sighs, "I can't help hoping that it's them somehow..."
"I miss them so much," Green breathes out.
Blue clenches his jaw for a moment. Then he sighs heavily. "I would do anything to see them one more time... What would they even say to us? They passed before - before we ever touched the four sword."
"Do not insult them by insinuating they would turn on us," Vio warns in a low hiss.
Green frowns, "I'm sure that's not what Blue means."
"We don't know what they would do!" Blue scoffs.
"I think... I think we're looking at this wrong," Red says as he looks at each of his brothers.
"Oh?" Vio prompts.
"Maybe... instead of being upset that (Y/n) isn't our soulmate like we want we should focus on the fact that someone so much like our angel is living a life away from all the danger that follows us," Red suggests.
"That's... not the worst idea we've had," Vio hums, allowing himself to sit with the idea.
Blue just glares at the ground, kicking a small group of pebbles away from himself. All he wants is his angel here. Apparently, that's too much to ask.
Green bites his lip before he sighs. "That's probably a better solution than what we've been doing."
"We can try it," Vio reasons.
"I think we should," Green offers a weak smile.
Red smiles back, "Okay."
"Blue?" Green prompts.
Blue sighs heavily, looking up to the stars. "I guess."
--------
You allow yourself to bask in the forge, soaking up the heat after the cold air outside thanks to winter. Watching your boyfriend at work is interesting as ever. His blacksmith work is something he enjoys.
Watching his muscles flex is always a treat, too. Your sweet boy works so hard.
"Are you sure you don't mind staying until I'm done? I don't mind if you want to go home." Link calls, turning to look at you during a break in his work.
You shake your head with a smile, "I'm sure, Link. I like to be around you."
"If you're sure."
"I am."
Link flashes you a smile over his shoulder, hair falling a little out of his headband. His blue eyes all but sparkle.
You let yourself settle into the chair you take up.
You listen to him work, muttering to himself as he hammers out the metal into whatever form he needs it to be.
It's hot in the forge, but you expect that.
Existing within the same space as Link is relaxing, soothing to your heart.
It's nice, being able to watch him working at his craft. He's good at it. Everything Hes ever given you from his work table has been amazing.
You absolutely adore the damascus steel dagger he gifted you for your last birthday.
Minutes and hours feel the same as you bask in the atmosphere.
It's not until your stomach growls that you give in to the fact you should really go make dinner.
You stand, stretching your arms above your head before you call out to Link. "I'm going to start dinner."
He turns to look at you over his shoulder, flashing a smile. "Thank you, angel."
"Of course."
You exit the forge and go into the house to start dinner.
It's been a good day.
You enter the kitchen humming -
You bolt up in bed, head spinning like a broken carousel.
What on earth was that?
--------
After one last breakfast made by Wild, you stand at the edge of town with the group of heroes you've been traveling with.
This is it.
The boys will leave and you will stay.
For reasons you doubt you could name at sword point you crave to follow them despite all danger and strange attitude. Despite the video game thing, your dreams, and all safety, you want more than anything to go with them.
You shove that into a far away box in your mind.
"I guess this is it," you say with a weak smile.
"You promise you'll send the letter for me?" Wind asks.
You nod, "Of course I will, sailor."
"And you'll write me?"
"If you want me to."
Wind hums, then snaps his fingers. "Hold on, I have something for you!"
"You don't have to do anything for me, I'm just grateful to have your friendship," you counter quickly.
Wind rolls his eyes.
The others stand behind him, all looking somewhere away from you except Legend, who just stares at you with a strange, almost seasick look.
At least you won't have to deal with all the tension.
Wind pulls something out of his bag with a triumphant grin. "Aha! Here, I wanted you to have this. It can be a good luck charm for you."
You smile a little, looking at the hand he holds out and finding a small seagull figurine carved out of a dark wood. It's small enough to fit in Wind's palm and your own as well.
"Really?" You ask.
Wind nods. "Of course! You obviously need it. You fell out of the sky."
You laugh, "I did. Thank you."
You take the small figurine and smile at the boy.
Wind grins up at you, "You better write me."
"I will. Don'tcause too much trouble."
"Good, and I don't cause trouble!" Wind grins before he hugs you tightly around your middle.
You smile as you hug the boy back.
When Wind steps out of your arms, Legend steps up to you, holding something behind his back. He gives you a straining smile.
"Hey, I have something for you too." The veteran says.
You smile a little at him, "You really don't have to do that."
"Consider it an apology for being an asshole?" He offers after a moment, voice half playful.
There's a choking sound from someone in the group behind him.
You snort a little. "You already apologized."
Legend rolls his eyes, "Then call it me, taking a step to do better by you."
The words are easy enough, but there's something weighty in his gaze and tone.
His eyes are like lavender, and for a second, you swear you can remember them lightning up just for you.
You hum once, considering. "Alright."
Legend pulls his hand out from behind his back and holds out a red health potion. "This is for you."
You gasp, well aware that the potion isn't cheap to obtain or to make. "Legend! Are you serious?!"
He gives a nod, "I am."
"You're sure that for me? Those aren't cheap."
He rolls his eyes this time, "Yes, I'm sure it's for you, trinket."
Your brain short circuits.
Trinket?
("It's for you, trinket," a man with lavender eyes smiles as he presses your favorite candy into your hand.)
You smile as best you can. "Thank you, Li-egend."
You catch yourself halfway through his name, but hopefully, no one notices or calls you on it.
Legend presses the potion into your hand, "Try not to die, okay?"
You laugh, "You try not to die too."
He frowns, looking you over.
Whatever he was thinking seems to pass, he gives you a lazy smirk. "Take care of yourself."
"I will." You say.
You put the potion and the little wooden seagull into your bag.
Legend steps back, falling into the group.
No one else comes forward, not even Sky.
Sky looks rough, red eyes and staring at the nearest tree...
Maybe it was a bad night for him?
"Well, I 'spose this is it... Take care of yourself." Twilight says.
You smile, "I will."
Epona walks up to you, nudging your shoulder.
You laugh, patting her neck, "You be good, sweetheart."
Epona knickers a little, nipping your shirt before she backs up, trying to pull you with her.
You stumble but catch yourself, "Epona hey, I'm staying here."
"Damn." Wind sighs.
"Language." Time calls.
Twilight grabs Epona's reigns, "I'm sorry she dosen’t usually act like this."
"It's okay, at least she isn't being mean," you assure as you gently pull your shirt from her.
You step back again, readjusting your top.
"Don't be a stranger." Time says to you, stepping forward to put a hand on your shoulder.
You look at him, trying one last time to make sense of the man. "Okay."
The man squeezes your shoulder, nodding once before he steps back.
"Remember you have a shield for a reason. Okay?" Warriors asks as he looks at you with a pinched expression.
Seriously, what is it about you that upsets them all so much? Is it their soulmate? Maybe it's your name.
That makes sense.
They just miss their soulmate. Too bad you can't help them.
You nod, "I definitely will."
"Keep your weapons sharp," Four chimes in helpfully.
"Stay safe," Hyrule says with a weak smile.
Wild steps to the front of your group, offering a fairly convincing smile. "Try to have some fun too."
"Good luck," Sky tells you absently.
You smile a little sad this time. "You too."
"Stay outta trouble if you can," Twilight says.
That's the last thing any of them seem to need. All of them turning and leaving, though Wind waves to you as he leaves, and Epona trails behind.
Legend shoots you a smirk as he leaves at least.
You wave them off and wait until you can barely see them before you turn to go back to town.
Everything is so strange...
You sit yourself on the edge of the town square fountain, trying to figure out what you do now.
Sighing, you look towards the library again. Maybe you could go read more?
There's a low meow that makes your attention jerk to the right - and holy fuck that's a panther!
What the fuck?!
The heroes leave and now the animals decide to attack?!
The panther stalks towards you, tail swishing slowly.
You can't remember if you're supposed to get big or small. Running seems bad though...
You won't out run a panther probably...
In a moment of desperation you take a deep breath and decide to try taking your way out if this one.
"Heeeeey, pretty kitty," you manage in a mostly steady croon.
The animal keeps stalking until it's a foot away from you.
It stares at you with an intensity that's frankly a little terrifying.
Spooky.
That's not really enough of a descriptor but it's what your brain has.
"Who's a good kitty?" You ask.
The panther sits down, yawning at you.
Wow that cat has giant, pointy teeth.
"You're a good kitty! Look at you, not attacking, such a good panther," You say in what is probably terror.
The large cat stretches it's front paws our until it's laying down, paws two whole inches from your boots.
Well... they aren't attacking. That's good! You like not being attacked by large ambush predators!
It's still fairly spooky to be so close to the animal... but if they aren't attacking maybe they'll let you try to touch them?
There's the animal loving part of you that starts to awaken now that you aren't positive you're going to be attacked.
You move so you are crouching, holding your hand out to the panther.
The animal sniffs your hand carefully, then immediately nudges your hand with it's nose as it shuffles closer.
Well fuck.
Okay.
Are you the animal whisperer now? First Epona, now this panther?
There are probably worse things to be.
You cautiously try to gently scratch their chin, almost preening when they lift their head to allow you better access.
Smiling, you wonder if you'll see them around more?
Maybe you can call them Spooky, the previous descriptor seems a nice.
Forget the library, you're going to soak up this previously impossible experience.
As you move to use both hands to dole out gentle scritches Spooky begins to purr.
A low rumble that makes you want to giggle.
Maybe it won't be so bad here.

Just saw the update!
So, first thoughts!
Gremlin Legend and Sky is something I am LIVING for. Sky's little look of approval as he stands between Wars and Legend after that little move is sending me!
Tumblr media
(Wild is not impressed)
I also really love that JoJo played with Warriors' cape/scarf being capable of doing that, which is a major risk btw, but I love that we see it's potential now!
Tumblr media
Like, Legend's timing is perfect (and I love that this confirms the Legend v. Wars dynamic we all love) especially considering Hyrule was literally talking about the same thing and you'd THINK Captain-War-Hero over here would be more cautious because of it (although the fact this implies Legend doesn't trigger Warriors danger sense is GREAT for the fluff fic writers like me!)
Time and Wars looking like disappointed parents though is brilliant
Tumblr media
(Warriors with messy hair is so funny to me, help)
The continued portrayal of Time being too harsh with the boys, all tense after what happened to Twilight, that's great. i'm glad the consequences of past events are following them, it really makes this all feel linear!
I also am ALL HERE for the boys finding their differences! Warriors and Wild both admitting to being new to dungeon crawling and the monsters involved is a great thing we've all been playing with in fics, but making it cannon feels like validation :)
Also, Warriors being defensive of that, and maybe a bit prickly about their judgement, I think it shows a lot of him. he's got his pride,a although he's learned to tame it. He's feeling a bit miffed to realize how different he is, but doesn't want them seeing him as lesser as well (although they never would). I can also hear him using a clipped military sort of tone when speaking here. It's just the way his words are selected and strung together that makes it seem he's being very to the point, direct, and cold in his tone, which really sells the whole difference between a soldier and the "average nobody" that the rest of them were (ironic, since he's trying to act like the difference isn't a big deal but only further accentuates it this way).
Twilight being pleased that Epona is fine and just enjoying a meal made me grin so big though. He's all worried for his girl but she is, quite literally, happy as a horse over there LOL
Also, this bit:
Tumblr media
recognition for Sky's right-handedness, my beloved! (JoJo is giving us all the easter eggs!)
The fact that the passage is too small to let them all fight though is a brilliant way of preventing some of our heavy hitters and more skilled heroes from being able to do anything though!
Tumblr media
I like how that gives us the chance to see Time one-shot the foe and also gives him the impression that the rest are maybe not skilled enough to do this alone. WE all know they are, but they're a handicap to each other right now, and it's only further cementing in his mind that they're not ready for all this, which will make his overbearing speech and the judgement he casts on them in combat all the more an issue.
I mean, we all know the hero's shade was like that, but JoJo has shown Time acting this way from the start
Tumblr media
(Deep Shadows P.2)
Tumblr media
(Likelike)
So I guess we're in for more of that now, and most likely someone (probably Legend, as it's usually him, or Wind, who is very aware of judgement from teh rest) is definitely going to have to call him on it soon, maybe in the dungeon. Will that lead to some bonding with Time where he has to admit he cares and worries about them as though they're his own? I hope so!
Anyways, all this to say, we really are seeing how much they struggle to work together, so hopefully this dungoen will teach them all how to do that better, as Time mentioned earlier
Tumblr media
(Dawn p.8)
Now, to finish it off!I would like to thank JoJo for giving us so many beautiful shots of Twi this time around. I'll admit it now, he's pretty darn fine <3
That said, I'm loving the Legend content too! i hope we get to see some more starring moments from him going forwards, what with him being the dungeon veteran and all! It's great seeing his childish/playful side these last few updates, but I'm really craving some veteran Legend right now >:)

Undivorcing Time
Another Commission!
They asked for a fix-it-fic for Time from the Divorce Headcanons post back in April. Which you can read right here. :)
Masterlist
Content under the cut!
The last two weeks have been arguably the worst sort of hell that Link decided he would never wish upon his worst enemy.
Every day he woke up with a sharp and spiking pain in his chest. A piercing ache that threatened to topple him over until his legs refused to work and his brain was overloaded with the pain.
He had to keep moving. Moving lessened the pain.
Link gulped down another breath as he closed in on the once home he shared with you. He found himself breathing harder and heavier as the building came in closer and closer. He can’t think. He can’t even look at it.
Epona is merciless as he brings him closer step by step. She’s always remembered the way home. She knows where to step to not slip on the grassy hillsides and where to go without any need for his direction and guidance.
Link keeps his head down, keeping his grip tight on the reins even though he refuses to give Epona any more commands. It feels like a punishment, but he knows it has to be done. You’re likely to have already gone, taking everything you’ve wanted to keep and leaving him with who knows what.
Not that it matters.
Even if you’ve decided to leave him with nothing, he still plans on getting rid of whatever is left. He already has what he wanted to keep. It’s all on his back and in his bag. He didn’t even bother packing anything that Epona would have to carry. She’s too old to do much anymore. If anything, it’s a miracle she’s still up and running as it is. She’s already over 20 years old.
Soon he’ll have to say goodbye to her too.
The pain in his heart deepens, the beginning of tears forming in his eyes.
He hasn’t cried once. He hasn’t allowed it.
Link takes a deep breath, wipes his eyes and smacks his cheeks. No tears. He refuses.
Epona takes the left and the little gate he set up five years ago comes into view. Epona stops.
Link stays on top of her for a moment longer. He stares at the back of her mane. Absent-mindedly, he pets her and lets his mind go blank for a moment longer. He doesn’t want to move. It’s a primal part of his brain that tells him to stay put, to avoid the pain.
But he hasn’t been a hero since childhood for nothing.
He can handle the pain.
He hops off of his horse, patting her side as he goes to open the gate. It creaks a bit, alerting him that the hinges need to be oiled. His immediate thought is that he’ll have to get to it at some point… But this isn’t his house anymore, is it? No. No, no. It’s not.
He walks through, Epona following loyally through the creaking gate.
He decides to put Epona in her place at the stable he built for her so many years ago. She should be somewhere familiar before he takes her away from this for good.
“Link!” You shout from the entrance to the house. The tone of your voice is shocked and he doesn’t blame you. He had left so suddenly. Quietly. He’s aware that while it was your idea to get a divorce, he was the one that had left without a word. You had woken up to an empty house.
However, the sting in his heart only persists. He can’t bring himself to lift his head and look at you even if he tries. And frankly, he doesn’t want to try. He brushes Epona down with a loving hand.
Faintly, he can hear your frantic footsteps stumble towards him. You’re off kilter. Unbalanced.
You crash into him at once, wrapping your arms around his midsection and squeezing him tightly. It’s enough to nearly knock the breath out of him. Both figuratively and literally.
Link instinctively wants to take comfort in the familiarity of it all. Your form. Your scent. Your warmth.
He takes your hands off of him.
No, he thinks, no more. No more pain, please. He can’t go through this a second time. He was hoping beyond hope that you would have either left already or that you wouldn’t want to face him.
“Link.” You say, letting him detach you from him. “I was wrong. I was so so-so wrong!”
He doesn’t speak. The walls of this throat won’t let him. It’s tight. Link can barely find the strength to fight against it just to swallow his spit. Tears well up at once without any warning. He fights for his life, trying to keep them at bay. He won’t let you see him like this.
“I don’t want a divorce.” You admit, beginning to shake. “I don’t know what I was thinking. I wasn’t thinking. That’s the thinking. I got stuck in my own thoughts and I wasn’t being honest with you- I thought you would want something better than what we had and that I wasn’t being good enough-”
Link snaps his face to you and you shrivel up in your verbal vomit just seeing the expression of destruction on his face. Your own face falls as you begin to cry. “I was being stupid. I know that now. I’m sorry. I’m so so so sorry.”
You sniffle, shaking something terrible, but willing to face the consequences head on. Link says nothing. He doesn’t think he has much to say, when in reality he has everything to say. He wants to yell, scream, cry, shake you- anything to let out the amount of pain and frustration he feels with every fiber of his being. But he does nothing. It’s too much and far too little for him to process.
You take that as your cue to keep talking. “When I noticed you were gone, I thought that you had finally chosen to leave me…“ You gulp. “I thought things would be better for you. I thought that maybe I would be able to figure something out since I’ve always lost people that matter to me.”
You hiccup, taking a moment to wipe your face. Link wants to be the one to do it, but he forces himself to keep his hands at his side. Is it petty? Is he the cruel one?
No. You broke his heart. Shattered it into a million pieces without so much as asking for his opinion. If anything, he’ll let you finish explaining yourself.
You step a little bit closer to him, hugging yourself tightly. You’re making a bigger effort than he is to make eye contact. “It was literally the day after that I panicked. I broke down. I broke the mirror. I broke a vase. I had a completely utter mental breakdown because the only thing that kept playing through my head was that I ruined… the best thing that had ever happened to me.”
Yes, he nods subtly, you did.
You swallow the spit in your mouth and wipe your nose as it begins to run from your amount of tears. “I kept thinking of how much I wanted you next to me. That you were the only thing that would have made me feel better. How much you’ve done for me, for us as a family, and just… how much I love you and need you- I’m stupid, ok? I’m dumb and an idiot. I know this is my fault, ok? You… you don’t have to take me back…”
You hiccup, slowly dissolving into sobs. “I don’t know… what you want to do… but I’m sorry. It’s your choice now. I just want you to know… that I don’t want you to leave.”
Link take a deep breath. The tears he’s been fighting back all this morning finally break through his steely will and track down his face. He reaches out to you and gently, with the back of his pointer finger, wipes away a rogue tear. His voice, once he forces it through the confines of his throat, is hoarse and weak, but you hear it all the same. “...I don’t want to leave.”
You break down into harder sobs as your knees give out. Link falls with you, cradling you within his strong arms at once. He pulls you into his lap, wrapping himself completely around you as if you were to suddenly vanish in front of him. “I don’t want to leave. I don’t want to lose you.”
“I’m sorry.” You say again, tucking yourself close to him after he speaks. “It was dumb. I never should have ever said it.”
“Never say it again.” Link growls, hugging you tighter as his tears fall into your hair. “It almost killed me.”
He hiccups and pressed his cheek against the top of your head. “...We’re going to have to have a long… and very honest conversation about this.” He’s not exactly excited about it either. “You know that, right?”
You nod, sniffling and making a wet spot against his tunic. “I know… I know. I’ll tell you everything, just don’t go again.”
“I won’t.” Link whispers. “I made you a promise that only death could take me away from you. I intend to keep it. I never go back on my promises… As the golden goddesses as my witnesses, I married you. I am your husband.”
You fall silent for a long time. The two of you stay in the middle of the field between your house and the stable, crying into each other’s arms.
Link feels at this point he can’t even be mad. He’s just glad that you don’t actually want to go through with it. But his emotional relief aside, he knows that this was only the result of a far deeper problem that he was previously unaware of.
The words that you said when you tried to explain yourself, saying he was better off without you and that you always lost the people that mattered to you- that was something he couldn’t quite pinpoint, but he refused to continue to believe such lies. You were always more than enough. You were more than good enough. You were always.. Exemplary… stunning… everything he could have dreamt of and then some.
He had no idea that you had thought so little about yourself. And he never could have imagined that such thinking could have impacted your marriage in such a way. Link had faced many foes and demons alike, but this was a challenge of a different color entirely. And one he wasn’t sure he’d be able to fight in the conventional manners he knew how.
This was something you alone were battling and will continue to battle for many moons to come.
He can only hope to be of support to you into the future.
Link hugs you tighter and presses a tender kiss into your hairline.
He’s almost at a loss of what to do now. There’s still so much heartache in his body that he feels physically ill. Crying isn’t enough to let it all out now. He gulps down the spit in his mouth and sniffles his own tears away. Link presses another kiss to your forehead. “I love you. I love you.”
You look up at him and cup his face, tenderly holding his jaw in your palms. “You’re not mad?”
“Furious.” He says softly, capturing one of your hands and kissing the palm of your hand. “That mirror you broke better not have been the one by the entrance.”
You press our lips into a thin line. “...It cracked in the corner…But no, that wasn’t the one I shattered. You know the one in the bathroom?”
“Oh.” He almost laughs. His arms tighten around you just a smidge more. It’s almost embarrassing how much he’s willing to give to you if you simply agree to stay with him. “Good. I hated that one.”
“Link! That was a gift!”
“...It was still ugly. Good riddance.”

Rating Non-Zelink and Non-BotW Link Ships in Legend of Zelda Games because they don't get enough love
Malink; Malon x Link: Adorable and somewhat canon depending on who you think TP Link's parents are and what timeline shenanigans you subscribe to. Link's first non-Kokiri friend turning into his soulmate is cute and finding peace after the craziness of OoT is beautiful. Also, Malon is cute as a button. 11/10, love you, funky Horsegirl.
Ilia x Link: Pretty good but feels too much like a reskin of Malink to be really fun. People give Ilia grief for freaking out about Epona but it really isn't fucking deserved. Girl get's done dirty by the narrative and the fandom and she deserves better. Also, memory loss and falling in love all over again is absolute peak. 9/10, you deserve better, baby.
Marin x Link: A child's first taste of tragic ending and hot girls being doomed by the narrative. Very child friendly "Calypso and Odysseus" feel to this one. Still, Marin is absolutely adorable and the idea of falling in love with a literal dream is heartbreaking. 10/10, would cry like a little kid again.
Link x Ruto: Okay, hear me out, this one isn't terrible. Ruto's chld-like crush on the guy who saved her life is pretty cute and being a haughty teenager about it is pretty funny. Also, she understands they can't be together, and sends him off with her love and good wishes, which is surprisingly mature of her. I'm just saying, Ruto isn't the weirdo people make her out to be. 7/10, it still feels like entrapment
Midlink; Midna x Link: TOP TIER! BEST OF THE BEST! ABSOLUTE PEAK ROMANCE! Romeo and Juliet style star-crossed lovers from literal opposing sides of reality. Allies of convenience to friends to soulmates?! PEAK! Adorable evil goblin design for most of the game and then complete knockout reveal at the end?! ROMANCE DOOMED BY THE NARRATIVE?! PEAK, I TELL YOU! PEAK! (Also I headcannon that because Midna looks like a Hylian she's considered ugly by Twili standards so Link finding her beautiful warms her heart). 20/10, best ship, best girl, best love story.
Ganlink; Ganondorf x Link: Objectively the funniest Legend of Zelda ship in existence and I will take no arguments on that. Destined enemies giving the middle finger to fate and falling in love instead? Amazing. Ganondorf hates every minute of it but he's also the happiest he's ever been with this stupid twink and he hates that too. 10/10, something something the Grinch's heart grew three sizes that day.
Link x Zant: Objectively hilarious as Link is seducing his enemies into submission yet again, like any self-respecting bard, but this one feels a little too Batman x Joker like for my liking. I really ship Zant x Therapy but Midna watching her rival give up his conquering ambitions for a twink is objectively hilarious. 8/10, not great but not bad.
Got others you want me to rate? Let me know! Or better yet, rate them yourself and I'll tell you if I agree or not.

Sickly Snuggles
(Legend x Reader) Warnings: None <3 Just so delirious cuddles with the best LU boy cause I feel awful
It had been a quiet morning.
After two days of sporadic rain everyone was inclined to get to the stable as soon as possible.
The storm had left a muddy path that clung to their boots and forced them into a slower pace. Mixed with the dropping temperature that left a merely uncomfortable chill in the air. They wouldnt of been surprised if ice lay beneath the layer of muck.
Wild had assured them that it never snowed on this side of the ravine but with their luck everyone remained skeptical.
Legend had settled at the back of the group, opting not to participate in any idle chit chat or shenanigans the others would come up with as they walked. Observing the others had become entertainment in itself and truthfully it let him pick up on things that the others might not be aware of.
Legend always believed you could learn a lot about a person by how they traveled and his companions were no different. Take Sky for example. When he's frustrated, his steps are heavier and more prominent. As if hes walking with a distinct purpose. Or how when Four has a headache he quickens his pace while simultaneously shortening his stride so it's more of a shuffle. Twilight fiddles with Epona's reigns when he's sleepy and Wars will start mumbling the most random facts when he's hungry.
From his spot, Legend looked over to Hyrule, taking in the way his arms swung at his side. The kid is clearly restless and Legend just hopes he won't go wandering off and get lost until after lunch. Just ahead of him was Four, and (Y/N).
His attention snagged on you.
The way you walk is most similar to the Captain’s. With arms close to your sides with little to no extra movement.
But when you're tired? Your damn hips give it away every time. After long days or a particularly rough battle Legend can see them swaying from side to side. The more exhausted you are, the more they sway like a hypnotizing pendulum.
Just like they were now.
In fact, the longer he stared (not that he was staring) the more differences he noticed. Your arms were crossed in front, fingers digging into the sleeves of your tunic. The tilt of your neck looked strained and uncomfortable with your head practically resting on your own shoulder.
Surely there was a reason for it right? He looked to the others, finding them all wrapped up in other conversations.
Has no one noticed?
Legend focused even harder, trying to figure out what caused this odd change. You had nearly passed out with Sky before Wild had even finished making dinner last night, and it was still early in the day so it didn't make sense to be this tired already. Maybe you were injured? Monsters had been scarce lately, and the ones they had faced had been easily dispatched of. Everything has seemed normal. Well, maybe normal wasn't the right word but rather nothing had been abnormal?
He squinted his eyes in concentration.
“Everything alright Vet?”
Legend barely spared Twilight a glance. “Does… does (Y/N) seem alright to you?” He whispered. He didn't want to worry anyone unnecessarily but there was just something that was eating at him.
Twilight glanced over, considering his question. “She does seem a bit off now that you mention it. I can go check on her.”
“It's fine, I'll do it.” Legend said, quickly stopping him.
He quickened his pace just enough to pass through the group without drawing too much attention. You were closer to Wars now which was a pain if he wanted to be discreet but he inched his way around the Captain so that it looked as if he was simply walking towards Hyrule.
He glanced back over his shoulder and mentally slapped himself for not thinking of it sooner. Your eyes were barely open, fluttering open just long enough to keep you from running into someone. Your face was pale and scrunched up in a twisted expression. He stepped beside you, tapping your shoulder with a single finger.
“(Y/N)?”
Your posture quickly straightened, stumbling slightly as you rubbed at your eyes. You looked like death. Your lips were pressed into a thin line to hide their quivering despite the sweat beading down your temples.
“For Din’s sake. Why didn't you tell anyone you aren't feeling good?”
“m’fine…” you mumbled, swatting his hand away. You attempted to keep walking, though you swayed enough to bump into him.
He grabbed onto you, keeping you from passing out where you stood. Your head immediately flopped onto his shoulder. Leaning against him with a heavy groan. He hadn't even realized he stopped walking until he heard someone call for the others to stop.
“Everything alright?” Time asked as everyone gathered around.
Legend could already feel the heat radiating off of you but he placed the back of his hand on your forehead anyway. “She’s definitely got a fever,”
“She's sick?”
“She seemed fine this morning!”
Legend felt your knees buckle slightly as you rested more of your weight against him. He put his arm around your waist and pulled you closer for better support.
“Do we need to stop?”
“Wild how far till the stable?”
Wild looked at his slate “2 hours? Maybe 3?”
Time stepped up, placing the back of his hand on her forehead as well. “It would be preferable to rest at the stable in case the weather takes a turn again,” He mused.
“They're barely conscious let alone in any condition to hike through Wild's era for 3 more hours” Legend remarked, noticing how unsteady your breathing was getting.
“I can carry ‘em if it'll help,” Sky offered, already stepping closer and holding out his arms.
If Legend tightened his grip on you just a bit no one seemed to notice.
“No offense Sky but I don't think you're the best one to carry someone for that long.” Twilight teased and Sky rolled his eyes.
“Plus your immune system is shit. You'll probably catch whatever it is they have, " Legend added.
“Oh come on guys I'm not that bad!” Everyone gave him an unimpressed look and Sky sighed in defeat.
“I'll do it” Captain said in a tone that suggested that this solution was obvious. He stepped forward and reached for your arm but you immediately squirmed and pushed him away. Trying again, he huffed in annoyance at the way you flung your arm to avoid his grasp. The others snickered as Twilight came up, patting Wars shoulder almost sympathetically before he swooped his hand under your arm.
“Ow! (Y/N) what the heck!?” Twilight quickly stepped away, rubbing his shin that you had kicked. You curled into Legend who was trying not to show how smug he felt at your blatant rejection towards anyone carrying you.
“I'll do it,” Legend said, trying to sound calm and unaffected.
“You sure? We can always-”
“It's fine, I've already got them anyway. It's just till we get to the stables right? So let's just get going.” Legend passed Wild your stuff to store before handing his sword and shield to Hyrule. Then shifted around until his back was to you.
You mumbled a small protest but weakly wrapped your arms around his neck as he bent down and picked you up. With his hands securely under your knees he took a few steps to make sure neither of you would fall.
“Alright let's keep moving.”
———
Legend was prepared to be exhausted by the time they got to the stable. He knew he'd likely be a bit more sore as well. But he was willing to put up with it. Even if it was a downright pain for him, at least he could mentally prepare himself now for what would likely be a rather long night later on.
What he hadn't been prepared for though was the constant battle to keep his goddess damned emotions in check.
Soon after they had started walking again your head had rested on his shoulder. He had obviously anticipated that considering you could barely hold it up a moment ago. But then your arms would wrap tighter around him. Not enough to hurt or make him uncomfortable, but just enough to grab his whole attention before then relaxing.
Meanwhile your nose would brush along the length of his shoulder. Trying to bury your face further into his tunic with a soft whine that tugged at his heart.
At first he tried to ignore it. You were simply trying to get more comfortable so you could at least try to rest. Ignoring it only went so far though as the further they walked the more often you would do this.
It was driving him crazy.
Each time, you clung to him tighter, nuzzling your face deeper into the crook of his neck so your hair tickled against his jaw line. Occasionally the collar of his tunic would get shifted, allowing the tip of your nose to brush against the skin of his neck. A warm shiver raced up his spine at the feeling, settling in his chest before he would quickly readjust. Shoving away the warmth in an attempt to try and stay unbothered.
Unfortunately for Legend, he found himself beginning to lean into it. Giving your legs a small, reassuring squeeze whenever you pressed into his neck. Letting the warm feeling linger just a little longer before trying to convince himself to push it away. You were sick. Obviously you weren't being entirely yourself at the moment. It's not like you were trying to be so stupidly adorable.
Almost selfishly, the next time he had to reach up to adjust the collar of his tunic, he loosened it so that the fabric could fall away from his neck.
Just as he had hoped, the fabric was quickly replaced with your face nuzzling into the now more exposed skin.
He had to take multiple deep breaths to try and regulate his own heartbeat, afraid that you could hear it pounding against his chest. Almost as if you realized what you were doing, you pulled away with a mumbled apology.
“I-It's fine” he was quick to respond, hoping you wouldn't pull away from him more. “Tell me if you start feeling worse, yeah?”
He felt you nod slightly before your face returned to where it had been. With a small sigh of relief, he laid his own head on top of yours for a moment. A content hum reached his ears, making him smile softly as you finally seemed to settle and eventually fell asleep.
———
Two hours of walking later and the stable was nowhere in sight. Wild had assured them that it was close by but Legend wasn't hopeful. You have been in and out of consciousness, though currently seemed to be passed out again.
It did little to help ease the worry Legend felt. You was alarmingly hot and he knew it needed to be treated soon before it became dangerous.
You groaned softly, lifting your head from his shoulder. “L-link?” you whispered in his ear. He craned his neck to look at you. Your skin was a ghostly white with eyes an irritated red.
“I..I don't..feel good..”
Legend sighed “Wild says we're almost at the stable. Can you hang on just a little longer?”
You closed your eyes, shaking your head before simply putting it back down “im sorry..”
The second he heard your voice sound so defeated he stepped closer to Time. “We need to stop. They've gotten worse.”
Time reached out his hand to your forehead and immediately called for everyone to stop. He slipped his arms under yours and peeled you off Legend's back as everyone gathered around. Time gently laid you down as the Captain hovered over you.
“(Y/N)? Shit, they're burning up. We gotta cool them down.”
Legend quickly grabbed his bag from Hyrule and pulled out his ice rod. “Here, use this!” He handed it over but quickly snatched it back when Wars sent ice shards flying out of it.
“We need to cool them down, not literally freeze them! Ugh, here. Sky, can I borrow the cape?”
He nodded and quickly handed over the sailcloth. Legend folded it a few times before touching the ice rod to it. When the cloth was sufficiently cool he placed it under your head.
“Alright, Vet make sure it stays cool. Champion, got any medicine in that thing of yours?”
Wild looked at his slate “No but I could probably make something!”
“Good enough, smithy go help him. Rancher and Sky, why don't you go find a better place to set up camp. Rest of us will stay here and keep an eye on things.”
Sky and Twilight walked off while Four followed after Wild. Legend sat on the ground and was soon joined by Hyrule.
“Here, drink some water. We don't need you getting sick too.” Legend rolled his eyes but took the water and downed a few gulps.
A shiver ran through you and Legend was quick to notice. Reaching into his bag he pulled out his blanket and draped it over you.
You opened your eyes, which seemed foggy and confused. Hyrule reached out his hand, gently brushing hair away from your face. “Hey, you doing alright?”
You looked at Hyrule, and then at Legend before tears formed in your eyes and slowly shook your head. Hyrule couldn't help but smirk at how quickly Legend reacted to the tears. In a split second he had pulled you onto his lap. Letting you rest against his chest with your head once again on his shoulder.
“I'm sorry…”
“Don't be. Everyone gets sick.” he whispered. Running his hand up and down your back. Hyrule leaned over and gently dropped the cold cloth on the back of your neck.
“Thanks” Legend mumbled.
Hyrule didn't respond but Legend still noticed the way his successor was eyeing him. “What?”
“Nothing~”
Legend just raised an eyebrow but Hyrule matched it. Thankfully that's when Wild came over, bottle in hand.
“Here, this should help bring the fever down.”
Hyrule took the bottle and Legend helped you sit up. Hyrule lifted it to your mouth and tilted it as you took a few sips. The fever didn't disappear instantly but if anything you already seemed to be a bit more comfortable, curling back into Legend. He combed his fingers through your hair as Hyrule helped make sure the cloth was sufficiently cool. They stayed like that for a while until Twilight came back into view.
“Hey! We found a place for camp. Sky's already started setting up.” Twilight said, kneeling down. “How're they doing?”
“We just gave them some medicine so hopefully the fever will break soon but they really should get some actual rest.”
“Agreed. Alright (Y/N), you heard him.” Twilight gently pulls you away from Legend and scoops you up. “Let's get you some rest.”
Twilight started walking away, leaving the others to follow after him. The spot they had found wasn't far and before long everyone settled down. Wars and Four were watching over you, while the others trying to find something to do.
Legend sat on the other side of their camp. Trying to finally get his feelings under control. Hyrule came up and sat down next to him. An unnatural smile on his face that Legend was quick to pick up on. He glared at Hyrule. Waiting for him to say something but was only met with a tense silence.
“Do you need something or are you just gonna sit there being creepy?”
Hyrule was quiet for a moment. Looking Legend up and down.
“Your tunics undone” Hyrule snarked.
Legend's hand shot up. Quickly tieing the collar closed as he pointedly avoided Hyrule's smirk.
“You sure seemed to be enjoying yourself” Hyrule chuckled at the red that spread on his predecessor's face.
“I don't know what you're talking about.”
“Seriously?” Hyrule deadpans. “It's okay if-”
“Don't. They're sick. That's it.”
Hyrule rolled his eyes but didn't press further. Maybe one day the two would realize what the others already had. Unfortunately for everyone else though it looked like today would not be that day.

Legend knew it was dumb on his part to be so irritated about where the portals were taking them but it was justified, he knew that most of the portals were random but, was it too much to ask to go back home to see his sister and Ravio, but noooh, fucking portals had decided to drop them in Calamity's Era.
The only good thing is that they were dropped near Castle Town, so it wasn't gonna be a long walk to find an inn to stay the night today. (The only problem was that they would have to go into the castle to report to Queen Cadenza and the incomodity that would be palpable when Wild was present was always something irritating for him.)
"Are we almost there?" Legend grumbled, running a hand through his hair, eyes scanning the surrounding area.
Twilight, walking beside him with Epona’s reins in hand, shot him a sideways glance and smirked. “You’re more grumpy than usual. What’s eatin’ ya this time, Vet?”
Legend huffed, adjusting his shield on his back. “What’s eating me is that we keep getting tossed around like rupees in a cucco storm, and we’re nowhere near home.” He kicked a loose pebble on the path, watching it skip a few times before settling in the dirt. “I just wanna see my sister and Ravio. Is that too much to ask?”
Sky, ever the peacekeeper, chimed in from ahead of the group, his serene voice carrying back to them. “We’ll get there eventually, Legend. The portals always have a reason for where they send us. Maybe we’re needed here.”
Legend rolled his eyes. “Yeah? Well, I need to be home.”
Hyrule, walking just behind Legend, chuckled softly. “If it makes you feel any better, I’m pretty sure no one’s thrilled about being yanked around like this.”
Wild, who’d been unusually quiet at the front of the group, suddenly slowed his pace. His shoulders stiffened slightly at the mention of home, but he didn’t say anything. Legend noticed the shift immediately and sighed inwardly. Great. Now he felt bad for complaining.
Before Legend could backtrack his words, Warriors clapped a hand on his shoulder with enough force to make him stumble. “Look on the bright side, Vet,” Warriors said with a grin, “at least we’re not knee-deep in some swamp, getting chased by Moblins.”
Legend grunted, shrugging off Warriors' hand. “Yeah, because being stuck in Calamity’s so much better.”
“Hey,” Calamity shot from just behind Wild, raising an eyebrow. “My Hyrule’s not that bad.”
Legend gave him a flat look. “Debatable.”
Twilight chuckled. “You’re really bringin’ the sunshine today, huh?”
Before Legend could snap back, Wind bounded up from the rear, practically vibrating with excitement. “Hey! Maybe we’ll meet someone new this time! Or find out some embarrassing stories about Wild or Calamity that they’ve been hiding!”
Wild and Calamity exchanged a glance, and Wild muttered, “Don’t count on it.”
Before Legend could reply, a distant, unnatural roar echoed through the trees, cutting through their conversation like a blade. The Chain instantly snapped to attention, hands on weapons, eyes scanning the dense foliage.
Wild narrowed his eyes toward the noise. “That’s close.”
Calamity, walking just ahead, sighed and pulled out his blade. “Of course it is.”
The next thing they knew, monsters burst from the treeline—Bokoblins, Moblins, and even a Lynel leading the charge. The Chain moved without thinking, falling into battle formation like clockwork. Blades clashed, arrows flew, and magic sparked in the air as they fought off the horde.
Legend was mid-swing, his sword catching a Moblin across the chest, when something strange happened.
Purple lighting started to strike the monsters, and suddenly he felt stronger than he was before. Legend shook the feeling of whatever weird thing was going on and continued striking enemies, noticing how most of the lighting seemed to avoid him and the other members of the chain, as if it wasn't trying to hurt them. Suddenly, a spark of magic appeared in front of him, and a person with what looked to be color-changing hair, a red cape over their shoulders a long blue tunic, and a strange kind of weapon appeared in front of him, he could hear them singing (was that' mari-) but couldn't comprehend what was happening. “What the hell?” Legend muttered, slicing through the last Moblin in his path, eyes glued to the stranger. The Chain, battle-hardened as they were, seemed equally stunned, their rhythm thrown off by the unexpected musical onslaught. Y/N let out a laugh, finally standing still, their Hemiola being held in their left hand, while their right hand changed the disk that was on it while humming something, not paying attention to the eyes of the strangers on them.
Twilight stepped up beside Legend, his brows furrowed in suspicion. “What in Hylia’s name was that?”
Y/N finally looked up, as if they were finally remembering that they were just fighting alongside others. Their hair shifted colors a bit more before it finally decided to turn a brownish red, but still with some other colors showing in some of their locks. A lazy grin spread across their face as they twirled Hemiola and it suddenly disappeared into thin air, some colorful particles left behind. "That? Just a bit of a magic trick I know" They said lazily, barely glancing at them before letting out a yawn, giving the group a side eye, but their eyes lingering in Legend for a second, making a shiver go through the veteran’s spine.
But before Legend could say anything, Calamity’s voice cut through the tension.
“Wait a second…” Calamity said, his voice tinged with disbelief. He took a step closer, peering at Y/N as if making sure his eyes weren’t deceiving him. “Y/N? What in Hylia’s name are you doing here?”

He's Becomes a Dad || Part 2/2
Part 1
Pairing: Twilight, Warrior, Sky, Wild x Reader
Overview: Congratulations, you're new parents 🎉 Some of the Links are prepared. Others...might need a moment to gather themselves. But rest assured! At the end of the day, they're all going to get a handle on this whole dad thing. Warning: Mentions of miscarriages for Sky's section. Nothing to detailed, but it's there so beware 🙅‍♀️
Zelda Masterlist 🤎Fandom Masterlist
Tumblr media
It's never been a surprise to you that Twilight would want kids of his own. He never even had to say it aloud, you could just read that look in his eyes whenever playing with the village children. It was a wordless yet ever so contagious request: I want this. And how were you to deny him? Just look at him!
Simply put, children were a top priority of yours almost as soon as you married. It didn't take long for you to become pregnant either (not with Twilight's fierce passion and your shared disinterest towards 'waiting'). Regardless, there were still many tears shed when you found out - all happy, of course, as your husband spun you around in his arms while you both laughed giddily in between quick kisses.
Let's get this straight: Twilight is prepared-prepared. Ordon is that type of close-knit community where everyone helps raise each other's kids, so despite this being his first rodeo as a new dad himself, he has plenty of experience taking care of youngsters. As a ranch-hand, he's also perfectly accustomed to the whole birthing process, having hand-delivered more baby goats than he can count, so don’t worry, nothing about the ‘less glamorous’ sides of pregnancy scare him.
With that being said, Twilight doesn't stress too much aside from the normal concerns about your health, after all he recognizes that not every pregnancy is the same for every woman, but that's exactly why he makes it his personal mission to ensure your comfort.
Feeling particularly ill? He'll make you all the tasty pumpkin soup you could ask for which, believe it or not, works wonders for an upset stomach. Just having a bad day? He'll happily let you cuddle with Wolfie to help you relax. Restless? He'll take you on a horse ride no matter the hour and if you're too far along in your pregnancy to climb onto Epona, a simple walk to Ordon's spring will do since that's the perfect spot to soak your sore body. Twilight is no above carrying you there himself if you ask.
Trust that your every worry is always smoothed; Twilight is there to reassure you no matter how 'little' the problem. Have concerns he can't speak on as a man? He'll happily go ask one of the other village women for you if you're too embarrassed to do so yourself, in fact this guy's already been talking Rusl and Uli's ears off for advice since day one. He doesn't want to leave a single thing to chance regardless of how confident he already feels which is probably why there's a stack of parenting books on his nightstand. Did he clear the shelves in Castle Town? Probably.
You're pretty sure that Twilight already had a 'go-bag' put together before the end of your first trimester, although he’d add to it like a paranoid squirrel up until your due-date. Curious, you had gone through it one day just to get a hint of how overboard he might've gone. Diapers, snacks, blankets, comfortable clothes for you, more parenting books...He does realize you're doing a home birth, right? Most of this stuff he could just grab from the cabinet if needed, but it's sweet that he's trying to be organized.
It isn’t really news to anyone that Hyrule’s heroes tend to land on the quieter side and usually Twilight isn’t much different…There’s a key word in there because you’re quite certain he hasn’t actually shut up since the second you told him you’re pregnant. He can hardly keep his excitement to himself! Oh, but it’s adorable, especially on those nights when he’ll fall asleep mumbling about his joy all while using your swollen stomach as a pillow. It makes your heart swell every time.
When you eventually go into labor, Twilight doesn’t show much outward panic if he has any at all, however he does feel incredibly terrible to watch you go through it without any relief. He feels absolutely useless while unable to take away your suffering the way a good husband should, so to make up for it, he does his utmost best to be your rock during those long hours, talking you through each painful contraction and doing everything in his power to distract you. Back rubs, walks around the house, whispers of sweet nothings…He’s by your side well into the night, keeping it up until it finally comes time to start pushing.
He definitely was not going to say it while you were going through the motions because he’d like to keep his head, but human and goat births are pretty much the same thing minus the actual cursing. He’s in his element then, knowing exactly what to do to ensure a safe delivery for mama and baby. His movements are almost automatic, trained by years of practice as he cleans the little one off before taking the time to admire them fully.
Are you shocked that Twilight is teary eyed? Not at all. Are you upset that he almost forgets about you entirely for a second because he’s so entranced by the baby? Also no, since you need a moment to catch your breath anyway. Don’t worry, though, he does eventually pass you your son reluctantly before hovering at your side with possibly the widest grin you’ve ever seen on the man since your wedding day.
The rest of the night is calm from there on, filled with quiet whispers and cooing as you both take turns partaking in skin-to-skin contact with your baby. Will you be doing this again soon? You’re probably going to need a decent break to recover, but just know that your husband is absolutely ready whenever you are. In the meantime, expect to be showered in endless love and affection because you deserve it for the priceless gift you’ve given him.
Tumblr media
Your relationship with Warrior has always been ‘slow moving’ if compared to most other couples’. For starters, while he may have a formidable reputation for being a supposed lady's man, all that 'skill' of his would go flying out the window whenever faced with your presence, so it took some time (and maybe a near-death experience) for any confessions to be made. In his defense, you're a very beautiful and strong woman who happened to be one of his superiors during most of the war, so please excuse him for usually being awed into silence whenever you showed even an ounce of interest in ‘lil ol’ him. His brain would literally become a windows error.
Even after Warrior did finally find the courage to ask you out, your respected jobs and heavy workloads have often forced your relationship to be put on the back-burner. Marry you? Hylia knows he’s been DYING to! You’re already wearing the ring and everything, but it's not like you're going anywhere anytime soon and he'd rather wait a few extra years to enjoy the perfect moment rather than rush the whole ‘happiest-day-of-our-lives’ thing during a bad time.
Luckily for him, you've never needed a formal certificate to know you own his heart. He proves it to you in other ways every day from cheesy love letters to overly romantic dates during your rare off time, and while you normally adore being the sole subject of his affection, that's exactly how you ended up in this very situation.
You're both adults and as such you won't pretend to be innocent: This wasn't planned in the slightest. Your jobs can be quite chaotic, as previously addressed, so you just wanted to help your husband-to-be relax and destress a bit - nothing new for either of you in itself, although that particular evening would end up weighing heavily on your mind a few weeks later.
To be honest, when you first entered Warrior's office and instructed him to sit down with a stern voice that could rival Commander Impa's, he thought you must've finally grown tired of being engaged for several years, having come to him then to demand that he marry you sooner. Agreement was right on the tip of his tongue when you delivered the bombshell that you were pregnant instead.
Your tone was serious and expression calm, but Warrior knows you well enough to spot the hidden worry in your eyes. It’s justified, of course. Had either of you even discussed having kids before? He doesn’t think so. It’s not like having a baby is a bad thing, though. The idea of creating a small family with you is a pleasant one, it’s just…happening a lot sooner than preferred. You both would’ve liked more time to plan and prepare…but oh well. What’s done is done.
The real concern is will your jobs allow you both time off to take care of a baby? It's not like a war is currently going on, so Hyrule won't suffer too much from having two of its best captains sidelined, however what happens if that doesn't remain the case? What if war breaks out tomorrow or the day after? Warrior can’t let his pregnant fiancée fight in battles! What kind of husband and father would that make him?! But at the same time, is he just supposed to ask that you sacrifice your career in order to spare his? THAT’S NO BETTER!
...All things considered, you'd say Warrior handles the news far better than some might've. Yes, he begins to ‘slightly’ overthink things, although that's exactly why you had him sit down first. Calmly, you take his hand and tell him how things will be (your own way of offering comfort not only to him, but yourself as well). The bottom line is that if you could successfully fight Ganondorf’s army together, you can raise a child together, too. Really, how much harder can it be? You already have some minor experience being unofficial parents to little Time and Wind during the war. Just don't give your own children any magic masks or wind controlling devices and you should be golden.
Thankfully, many of Warrior’s initial fears are proven to be irrational during the earliest stages of your pregnancy. Everyone else was positively thrilled to hear the news and even Impa gave her congratulations, explaining to your fiancé’s relief that she’ll simply assign you more deskwork until it’s fit for you to return back to your normal duties. All he has to worry about in the meantime is making sure you actually take it easy; only a slightly difficult task considering your headstrong nature and insistence on not being ‘coddled’, but hey, if anyone can handle it, it’s the guy who’s hellbent on marrying your stubborn butt one day.
Warrior will admit that there were still some nights when he would nearly pull his hair out while doubting if he’s actually ready to be a dad, however the moment you officially being showing is the same moment he forgets all about any possible regrets and replaces them entirely with daydreams filled with not only his lovely wife, but also a little one who will hopefully think the absolute world of him. He already knows he’ll think of it of them.
Although you may feel a bit nervous towards the prospect of suddenly being parents, that doesn’t change the fact that you wouldn’t choose anyone else to go through this journey with. One look to your side and you’re certain of it. The way Warrior holds his son for the first time, newborn wrapped comfortably in his scarf and dad, eyes half-lidded with exhaustion after hours of labor yet the proud smile evident on his face nevertheless…You were right before: so long as you do it together, you’ll excel in this whole ‘parenting-thing’.
Tumblr media
You had married young - almost as soon as you were able after graduating from the Knight Academy. To everyone else on Skyloft, you have always been the picture image of an ideal couple; the hero and his beloved princess who somehow manage to be completely and utterly smitten with each other even years later. To call Sky your husband is a blessing in itself and you consider yourself lucky every single day. There’s only ever been one problem with your relationship - one single complaint you can think of where neither of you are truly responsible: your lack of children.
When you first married, there was lots of talk, after all everyone was simply dying to know when the first generation on the Surface would be born. Your parents were eager for grandchildren and Zelda, your best friend, had way too much fun teasing you over the matter by expressing her 'surprise' that Sky had yet to give you a baby despite how 'passionate' he’s always been towards you (she would make sure to use those exact words, too).
Initially, you never minded anyone’s curiosity. It’s only natural to expect children from a newly wed couple. It's when that same couple reaches their third then sixth year of marriage without any trace of tiny feet or squealing laughter that those curious and well-meant questions grow quiet with unbearable pity, your shared excitement becoming shuttered sorrow.
At the start there was nothing to worry about. You were both young and not putting that much effort into it, so certain it wouldn't take long for your family to grow. Then the years began to pass and you would try everything the doctor recommended, but every test would still leave you as disappointed as the last. The absolutely worst form of despair came those few times you'd actually get your hopes up only to have them cruelly dashed a few months in.
What were you doing wrong? Sky would always hush your anxieties and do his utmost best to reassure you, however you knew by his own tears that your infertility hurt him just as much, especially when on those quieter nights, you'd suggest that perhaps you simply weren't meant to be parents - that the gods were just trying to tell you both something you were too stubborn to accept.
It's for that reason that you had such mixed emotions once finally able to fall pregnant again. You were optimistic deep down, however after six years of attempts and losses, you were wary to embrace too much joy right away which was shown in the way Sky held onto you for what felt like hours after you told him or how he slept each night with a hand on your stomach even in those early days, internally praying to the goddesses this would be the one.
A month passed...Then two...And three, and four…For once, you didn't feel sick aside from what was considered normal. Maybe a bit of high blood pressure the doctor kept a close eye on, but other than that he’d always tell Sky and you the same thing: they're healthy.
Even then, you’d say you remained extra cautious, not daring to eat nor do anything the doctor so much as hesitated against, however Sky was by far the worst when it came to worrying. As your husband, he considers your physical and mental well-being his personal responsibility, but as the father of your child? His work has doubled!
All chores were to be his alone so that you could rest. Any bout of sickness was closely monitored and tended to. His hand would remain on your stomach from beginning to end, although overtime it would be done less out of fear and more for the sake of bounding, often accompanied by his voice or the melody of his harp which he would happily play for you both whenever you were having a particularly difficult time falling asleep at night.
Now, you didn't dare tell anyone about your pregnancy during the first half, not wanting to deliver anymore bad news should it come, however once the remilit was out of the bag, you became the center of attention much to Sky's conflicted feelings. On one hand, you deserved it for all of your hard work growing a baby, but on the other, that overprotective dad-side of him couldn't help fretting over the vast number of harmful germs your guests could possibly be passing onto you and your unborn child. Did he make everyone wash their hands for ten minutes before visiting? Yes, yes he did.
Beyond being protective, Sky was also very emotional throughout the entire pregnancy maybe even more than you sometimes. He got teary-eyed after every doctor's appointment that confirmed the baby's development, while picking out names together, and even when you were yelling at him for something stupid because as far as he was concerned, you still looked so beautiful standing there with crossed arms and a round belly carrying his child. Oh, but none of that compared in the slightest to the tears that were shed when he actually held his daughter for the first time; that amount of waterworks could put the flood of Faron to shame!
Six years of waiting made you both lose hope. You assumed you’d never be able to have children of your own and even began to look towards other options such as adoption or simply living your lives childless forever…but the day your daughter was born was the day all your anxieties and doubts were finally put to rest. Now, as you cry happily with your husband, you can’t think of a single complaint towards your relationship; it’s officially as perfect as the precious little bundle in your arms.
Tumblr media
Wild and you were still practically newlyweds when you gave him the 'thrilling' news. You were so happy to do so, too, barely able to bite back your excitement while watching your husband lift a small pair of baby pajamas out of a gift box. You were absolutely glowing as you eagerly awaited his reaction and all he could do was simply stare into space as his whole world came crashing down on top of him. Did he look horrified on the outside? He must've, because he swears he could’ve pinpointed the exact moment that shine in your eyes died, a frown etching its way onto your lips. What else was he supposed to do aside from fake a smile and embrace you, keeping you close to his chest so that your delight wouldn't be spoiled by his internal nervous breakdown?
Wild has zero right to be shocked. You had both been intimate (as tends to happen when you're married) not to mention you had made it perfectly clear from the start of your relationship that you would want a family one day. Judging on your eagerness towards the topic, it was never up for debate either; no kids would be a dealbreaker for you, so Wild had no choice but to quietly agree, too afraid to dare utter the truth or voice any hesitation because Hylia forbid you get the wrong idea and leave him.
He thought it would be harmless. Some couples remain married for years before any children follow and you weren't in any big hurry, so he figured he'd have plenty of time to get his act together until the day of your dreams arrived; he didn't think it would happen during your first year of marriage! ...Now he's really dug himself into a hole it's too late to try escaping from…
He’s almost said something - a few times actually. He knows it’s only fair and that as your husband, he owes you proper communication, but each time he opens his mouth, his mind curses him with the image of your sadness. What if you think he doesn’t want this at all? What if you think he hates the baby and hates you for being pregnant? What if you concluded he must want to leave you so you decide to beat him to the punch?!
…Okay, so Wild knows you aren’t going to just walk away. You’ve always been good at listening to his inner demons and acting as his strongest pillar of support, but that doesn’t change his fear that you might be hurt by whatever he has to say and he will not allow himself to ruin your own excitement.
In the years that he’s known you, he can’t say he’s ever seen you quite as happy as when you found out about your baby. He knows he should match that joy, too. Most men do. Hell, Twilight practically sent a five-page essay bragging about his wife's first pregnancy. Truth be told, Wild actually does feel happy. On his better days, he feels that flicker of pride and a hint of eagerness because a family with you honestly sounds wonderful. The problem is, in his mind, it isn't a question as to what he wants, but rather what he deserves.
So much has gone wrong in his past. It doesn’t matter how much you or anyone else assures him otherwise, it’s hard to shake the feeling that he failed Hyrule. He still suffers from so many nightmares and waves of guilt that he can’t properly put into words. You’re still having to shake him out of dazes and smooth his following sobs…How is he going to be a good dad and be there for his child when he can barely stand upon his own two feet like this?
Initially, Wild thought these feelings would go away; that’s why he never spoke them to you. He wanted so desperately to believe they wouldn’t linger, especially after you both got married. He lives in a peaceful world, has a nice home in a quiet village, a beautiful wife who adores him…He should’ve been able to move on from the Calamity already, so why hasn’t he? On his worst nights, it makes him wonder if he’ll ever be okay or if he’s just screwed you and the baby over by tying you both down to him.
These two sides of him - the hopeful and the pitiful - continue to battle for dominance inside Wild’s head throughout each step. Sometimes he’s genuinely smiling with you as you pick out baby names. Other times he’s sitting outside alone trying his damn hardest to remember any piece of his past that might make him feel at least a little better about his luck towards being a dad, preferably a time when he was actually good with kids or even had a family before.
Wild’s internal dilemma comes to a head one fateful night when he’s awoken to the baby’s distressing cries. He had honestly already been awake after a mild case of anxiety, but you on the other hand are tired, worn from nine long months of pregnancy and the early days of active motherhood. The last thing he wants is for you to lose out on precious rest (a rare gift these days), so leaping out of bed, he’s quick to reach the baby’s crib.
Unfortunately, Wild’s natural instincts seem to basically stop right there at the crib’s side. Hands hovering above, he tries his best to calm his daughter through whispered assurances and attempts at cooing the same way he’s seen you do. When that doesn’t work, he awkwardly picks her up, cuddling her close to his chest while quietly pleading at this point. Is she hungry? Does she need a diaper change? Did she have a nightmare? Whatever it is, if you wake up, you’ll take over and he’ll be left to stand aside feeling like he can’t even do the basic task of comforting his own child and -
- To his astonishment, his efforts actually work. It really must’ve been as simple as a nightmare because slowly, the baby falls silent, seemingly forgetting all about her troubles as she finds solace gazing up at her daddy with the widest blue eyes and a stuck-out tongue that can’t seem to keep itself in her mouth. It looks rather goofy, so Wild can’t help but chuckle, although the sound is soft as his heart melts under the attention she holds towards him. If he didn’t know any better, he’d say it’s almost like she’s looking at her entire world…
Maybe some would say this moment isn’t necessarily anything special, but for Wild, it’s everything. As if suddenly a pro, he’s able to rock the little beauty gently back to sleep, his pleas turning into words of admiration as he tucks her into bed. There, he continues to keep watch over her until he feels tired himself, all the while thinking: he might be broken from years of trauma, and he might not be the best husband or parent out there because of it, but that's not going to stop him from doing everything in power to be there for his princesses.

More about Time and Twi in your modern au pleaaaase 👀
ofc ofc!! i love to talk about these guys :3
- Twilight is Time’s sister’s kid, but she and her husband both passed so Twilight fell into Time’s care when he was 13 months old. Time and Malon are the only parents he’s ever known (he’s always known they’re technically his aunt and uncle, that was never hidden from him, but to him they’re mom and dad and he calls them that). Time and Malon couldn’t have had their own children and were going to be adopting anyway and though initially they’d planned on adopting more than one kid, Twi is an only child
- When he was little, Twi was really just Time’s little buddy. He’d follow him EVERYWHERE and get genuinely very upset if Time didn’t take him with him somewhere, though Malon talking quietly to him and just physically being there was always enough to calm him down again. Daycare did not go very well, the other kids stressed him out too much and he missed Time and Malon so badly he’d sit as close to the door as physically possible and he was just so distressed because he’d been ‘left somewhere’ that after like a month of trying, Time and Malon eventually just kept him on the ranch. Kindergarten also failed miserably, but because the ranch is so far away from things and other people they really really didn’t want to homeschool him because they wanted him to get to interact with other kids so they tried again for first grade and Twi DIDNT spend the entire first day crying so they counted it as a success (though he didn’t say a word to anyone all day, not even the teacher). EVENTUALLY he made a friend (Ilia), but it really did take him a few months before he spoke to anyone at school
- The first time he ever saw the goats Twilight just became OBSESSED with them, and he was too little to do a whole lot to ‘help’ take care of them, but Time would hold him and let him gently pet the goats and call it ‘helping’ so Twi could feel like he did something (ofc as he got older Twi started GENUINELY helping out on the ranch, but little baby Twi got to help by petting goats and it made him happy so Time wasn’t about to take that from him alksdkdk). Time also lifted up baby Twi to pet Epona and Twi just adored her so so much, Time will never be able to not smile at the memory of how big Twi’s eyes got with pure wonder and amazement when he put his little hand on Epona’s nose
- Time is the reason why at eleven years old Twilight was terrified of the muppets. They watched Muppets Most Wanted and Twi (bless his heart) was a little bit scared of it, and Time thought it’d be funny to put a bunch of pictures of evil Kermit all over the house as a joke and Twi ran into one in the dark and well, Time paid for his stupidity by staying up all night with his poor child (Twi’s not scared of the muppets anymore, but his heart WILL start beating faster and he does feel a little anxious if he runs into anything kermit related where he isn’t expecting to)
- Time would not call himself an anxious parent and Malon would very much like to disagree with him because he is SO overly worried about something happening to Twilight after Twilight at nine years old hopped off a horse a little carelessly because he was trying to be cool and ended up tripping, falling, and splitting his head open and poor Time just saw his kid go down and go limp and then there was blood just EVERYWHERE, and another time when Twi was 15 he almost died and Time was the one who was with him then too. Twi doesn’t feel like Time hovers over him by any means, he feels loved and like Time really cares about him, but Time’s genuine fear that Twilight is going to die or get seriously injured in some bizarre accident has led him to check his kid’s location at 3 in the morning (now that Twilight at 21 years old has been living in the apartment with Sky and War for 2 years) to make sure he made it home safely, and he’ll also pace and it drives Malon INSANE (she loves her husband and she understands his anxiety and she really wishes there was something she could do to help him calm down, but HE stresses HER out with the pacing and nervous muttering). Twi is well aware Time has his location, he also has Time and Malon’s and he doesn’t care that they can see where he is. He knows it makes Time feel better to be able to check in on him and also it’s very useful for when he texts and says he’s on his way to the ranch because its a decently long ass drive and then Time and Malon can see how far away he is (Twi also has War and Sky’s locations, and they have his)
- Time paid for Twi’s first tattoo after making him save up for it because he wanted to make sure that Twi was both serious and also going to be financially responsible enough to save for something he wanted while also being able to buy the things he needed, and he let Twi keep the money’d saved for something else. He’s paid for a few others too, and a couple piercings
- Twi really looked like a mini Time growing up. He has a much darker skin tone and brown hair and eyes, but his face shape and like his facial structure are identical to Time’s and the resemblance is so strong people have never doubted Time being his dad (even though he’s technically Twilight’s uncle)
- Twi and Time both have a habit of collecting strays, and they’ll bring them home to Malon and take care of them on the ranch until they can find the animal a nice home or release it back into the wild, though about four dogs now have been kept around because Twi and Time got too attached, as well as a couple cats and one person (War) /hj

Malon: Would you still love me if I was a worm?
Time: *With the "what if Epona was human" long-suffering face* Dearest, you know I would, for you I would do that and much more, but you have to agree that that is sort of gross.
Flora: Would you still love me if I was a worm?
Wild: *No hesitation* Yes.
Light Dragon: Cool.
Aryll: Would you still love me if I was a worm?
Wind: We're siblings. If you were a worm then I would be a worm too and we would be worm buddies and do cool worm stuff.
🐰 Bonus round 🐦
Ravio: Would you still love me if I was a worm?
Sheerow: *Plucks a worm off the ground and eats it*.
Ravio: You know what, never mind.
