Lest we forget

On the centenary of the end of world war one, honour the men, women and children who lost their lives in one of the most tragic and bloodthirsty events in modern history.

War was set in motion due to the assassination of one man and his wife.

Do you know the estimated figure of the dead from world war one?

37 million...

37 million people died as the direct result of two murders. The impact of that much loss is hard to even remotely understand 100 years on from the war.

Families were broken.

A whole generation was lost.

Most men had no idea what they were fighting for, they went to war to honour their country and their families, they did question why. Women died at war trying to aid the wounded, children died as a civilian casualties.

The death toll rose after the war had ended due to complications with injuries, the spread of infection and the introduction to disease. Those who survived were scarred physically and mentally. The war never left them.

Reflecting back on this time it seems like such a waste of life. Such a waste of potential. All to fulfill political agendas.

Do not let the dead be rested in vain. Honour them for the bravery they had to go to war, thank them for the future they fought to protect, respect them for the lessons they have taught us.

This weekend, we remember those who died in #thegreatwar #100years ago. Legions of men torn asunder by fire and shell to lie silent in the sod beneath our feet (some not even fully mature). Today... we occupy a world still plagued by continual #conflict and #senseless violence. We must consider whether picking up arms against each other profits anyone other than the #weaponmongers and #warprofiteers ... those who pull on the strings of brutality to line their pockets with gold. I #salute those brave young soldiers of the past who took part in something so tragically devastating, that it still gives the majority of us pause, when our blood runs hot. May we never see another #greatwar . #armistice is about peace.
