Current Plans + Musings

I don't plan on playing Exedra to the degree I did for Magia Record, or playing it at all. Because of that, I won't be taking an active role in the community and archiving anything for it. Of course, if Exedra has like amazing gameplay and stories then this is all subject to change, but for now I think I'm done with phone games.

The two youtube channels will stay up and I'll check em periodically to make sure there aren't copyright strikes against the content. I've saved all my raw files, especially for the battle animations, so I can remake them in the future if the music ever becomes a problem for some reason.

Google Drive will stay up until Google rots away. I haven't recorded footage in a long time (as in stories, I do for the character doppels and such), but I'll upload things if they're sent to me.

Magia Union Translations still plans on translating things and making videos, especially leading up to the end, but also for after the game is over for whatever wasn't made in time. I'm not sure what form this will take in the future-- if it'll be manual captions added to the videos or not, but I know it WILL happen.

As for this blog, I'm not going to delete it or anything. However I'm going to be taking a step back. I'd like to say that I'll do liveblogs but I mean... *gestures at blog* I've been saying that for years and the only one I really did successfully was the Oriko one lmao. Ahhh oh well.

I'll have more words later, but it was really fun to be part of a fandom experience like this. I'm excited to work on my own original story projects though and quiet down a bit.

When I started this blog, I never expected it to have people actually read it. Or look at it. I just wanted a place to gush about how much fun I was having. I didn't even want to tag the posts with "Magia Record" at first because I was terrified people would be mean at me, haha.

But I'm glad I did. I made so many good friends through this game. I'm glad it existed. And it made me happy to have a place where people cared about what I had to say. Some folks actually got their news from here, can you imagine that? They had notifications turned on for this blog. My god.

Anyways, I'm going to be here for the next two months, and tomorrow I'll start reblogging fan projects and initiatives, plus general news. Maybe this blog will turn into a dumping site for art and fanfic reblogs, who knows. I might watch the remaining stuff and add various thoughts here and there.

Otherwise, you can find me on my main blog @malignmuffin, which only reblogs stuff (I don't talk much if at all there). I have another tumblr blog for my comic, but I think I'll reshare the name once I actually have content you can look at on it. It's pretty bare bones for the moment.

Actually it'll be funny if the end of this game is what makes me finally work on it again. I was in the process of working on it when NA came out, and it totally derailed me. Stopped writing, drawing, just focused on this silly little phone game. Now it's like those five years have gone by and I'm going back to where I started, except I think my lil comic is going to be a bit better than it was before. If I actually make it, that is.

If I ever do actually make my comic and start posting it, I'll be sure to update y'all here. hah

Anyways, thanks for being on this wild ride with me. The memories have been great, and I'm glad I had this experience, even if it had to end.

Well, I finally got to know what Patshottiversay is about, which started this whole Bad Buddy liveblog thing. So, there's that. As for my thoughts on the entire episode, here we go:

Wai was feeling hurt that Pran lied to him about his relationship with Pat and decided to out them as a form of retaliation. Still don't know if he's the one who saw them leave in the car together, though.

Okay, cut to the final play; Pat is smiling and clapping, but Pran appears to be a bit more subdued and peeking glances at Wai. Now, I thought Wai couldn't be a part of the play because of time constraints, which was the reason why Pran's ass was anywhere near this play.

Don't tell me that Wai is giving Pran the silent treatment after pulling that stunt. THE AUDACITY!!! He is. Pran is apologizing, which I kinda understand, but Wai really needs to get off his high horse. Are you sure you want to pull the best friend card here, Wai? After what you did in response?

Oh no, Pat became the faculty pariah; at least that's what Korn is saying. I'm sure it must've felt good for Pat to (supposedly) have Korn on his side.

I would actually pay good money to watch Pat talk to Wai for Pran. Thank you, Pat, for calling out your boyfriend on his avoidant behavior.

Awwww, Pat asking if Pran wants him to post a status saying that they broke up to get Wai to talk to him is 😭😭😭.

Guys, I don't feel good about this rugby practice. Okay, Pat's fine, at least physically.

I mean, Korn is being fun and playful, which must feel nice for Pat, but I'm still reserving judgment. His reaction just doesn't seem genuine, you know?

Pran is waiting in the bleachers for his jock boyfriend to finish rugby practice.

I have to admit that I let out a chuckle at the inhaler product placement in this tense atmosphere.

I'm sure their flirting is just pissing Wai off. Oh Wai, you really showed your attention-seeking ass there, didn't you?

So, let me get this straight: Pran only came to rugby practice to make his boyfriend sniff on an inhaler. ASFSHGF—

Yay, double date with Pa and Ink. My darlings. Okay, so, let's settle this once and for all. WHO SEDUCED WHOM? I'll have to go with Pat seducing Pran because Pran would have never taken the first step.

Ink trying to stir up the pot by asking Pat if he were lying about having feelings for her is just chef's kiss.

See, Ink saw PatPran coming from a mile. I mean, since Ink knows about their parents rivalry, even if she didn't want to broach that subject with the guys, I expected her to bring it up with Pa. Am I showing my nosy ass over here?

Ink, babygirl, I hope you weren't going for subtle with the "Are you being hit on by anyone?" Because it wasn't subtle, at all. These girls will be the death of me.

Ink, girl, what are you playing at? Please don't toy with Pa's feelings.

The domesticity!!!! "Can you stop being a big, clingy dog for one second?" Don't be lying now, Pran; you like him exactly like that.

Pa is the ever-suffering child that has to witness her parents PDA.

Wai is still mad, and Pat is kind of done seeing his boyfriend being sad.

I just hope the drink sales went through the roof after the episodes aired because they worked hard for the product placement to seem natural.

What in the what now, you take a sip of the drink and lose control over your bodily movements?! Maybe I'm not the target customer for this.

We are back to their regular flirting now. Pran saying, "All I know is if you lose, you won't get anything," in response to Pat's, "If I win, will I get more than the drink?" AAAAHHHHHH!

Game time!! I just have this feeling that Pat's going to end up getting hurt. Hope I'm wrong.

Okay, so none of Pran's friends are talking to him.

What crawled up Wai's ass now? This is a team sport; remember your rugby scholarship? Why are you half-assing it?

Pat, baby boy, a fight is what he wants, and you're giving it to him.

I think Pat is smart for saying, "I'll ask the coach to not send me onto the field if you can guarantee a win," to Wai—it indicates that the team winning is the thing that matters the most to him.

WAI PASSED THE BALL TO PAT!!!Pran also moved closer to his friends on the bleachers. And they won!!!

Pat definitely deserves to get whatever he wants from Pran after leading the team to victory and bridging the gap between Pran and his friends.

Well, Wai is still sulking, but at least it's off the field, and that's expected and normal atp.

I'd be worried if he were treating Pat like a friend now.

The other team seems like they are a bunch of sore losers. God, I hope they won't plan a sneak attack at night for revenge or anything like that. I don't know; I just have this gut feeling that someone will end up getting hurt.

All Pat wants is just to be babygirled by Pran. Is this the more you were talking about earlier, Pat? The reward after your win? Well, they got cockblocked by Korn.

They are at a bar celebrating their win. I don't want anyone injured at the end of the night, but my spidey senses are tingling.

Oh no, the losing team is at the place where Wai works, and the guy recognized him. I smell trouble in the air. HE DID NOT JUST PULL A GUN ON WAI. WTF???!!!

Thank God that Wai is trying to de-escalate the situation. Thank you, good stranger, who was just carrying his drunk friend out and inadvertently helped Wai.

Now, Pat's friends are also at the same place. So, the sore loser isn't done yet.

Oh, this takes me back in time. Remember when Pat's friends did the same to Wai? Pat remained passive back then, but he's butting in right now. Wai is asking Pat to back off, and he did, but I don't trust the look on that sore loser's face.

Pat, bestie, where are your friends? Why are you walking alone on a deserted street at night after that interaction?

Pat, RUN! Why are you trying to fight them? You are outnumbered.

Oh, no, he pulled the fucking gun. Are you shitting me right now??? This is how PAT GOT SHOT??!

I'm sorry, but why was that one of the funniest gunshots I've ever seen?

Guys, it's just so surreal. Why did it have to be a gun? I think it would've made more sense for it to be a knife the way they fought over it. You know, a knife stabbing instead of the gunshot wound. I would've taken it more seriously then, maybe.

Pran's in the hospital, on his way to cuss Pat's ass out, I hope.

Why are Pat's friends acting like that? Pat, sir, why are you breathing like that?

To kiss your boyfriend?! I'm softening up to Pat's friends a bit. They are just immature but don't mean any harm.

Apparently no one is taking this seriously because a gun went off in the middle of the night and the patient was just brought to the hospital. WHERE ARE THE COPS? Did they contact his parents?? Pat is 19 at the max. They should inform someone, RIGHT?!

WHAT DO YOU MEAN IT'S JUST A GRAZE WOUND AND A BANDAGE IS ENOUGH, Pat? Huh? I feel like I'm going INSANE!!

Thank God the cops showed up. Now, why are the cops being dumb and assuming that Pat shot himself with his own firearm?

How about an investigation? Maybe send it to the lab for fingerprint analysis or check if the gun is registered under someone's name?

Why do I have to tell the cops how to do their job? They're charging him already. Man, what is this???!

Well, I guess it's good that Wai told everyone that Pat helped him the previous night.

I'm sorry, but what do you mean they are charging him without any investigation?

"Without any proof to confirm it isn't his, he's over." Is this how the justice system works? Aren't the cops supposed to provide irrefutable proof that the person committed the crime before they charge them?

Did they take witness statements? Do the police even know that others have fled the scene?

Now, why are these college kids trying to bring the others who fled the crime scene in? Shouldn't the police do that?

Since they played a game against them with a referee and all, they must have a record of their government names somewhere. Why don't they just turn the list over to the police?

Okay, I guess Wai is going to use the footage where the guy pulled the gun on him to prove Pat's innocence.

I mean, good, but why aren't we sharing this information with the police?! Why are you doing the work for them?

Why are the police acting like they are the fucking debt collectors and not public servants?

Well, at least Pran is getting his morning cardio in.

I'm not taking this seriously anymore. Now I understand the jokes; it's a way of coping with the absurdity of the situation.

Pran saved his boyfriend's ass, I guess.

Can someone explain to me like I'm five years old what the purpose of this whole thing was? I will expand upon this later.

Is it to show that Wai is okay with their relationship? I got that feeling after Wai asked Pat to step away from the fight the previous night.

Wait a second. Pat got shot, and no one informed Pa, you know, his sister who lives with him?

Okay, Wai and Pat are bantering now?! "My friend almost became a widower there."😂😂 These are not serious people.

God, they're so sweet with each other that it's almost making me forget about what all has transpired.

PAT'S FAMILY FINALLY SHOWED UP. Pa, sweetheart, you could've sent your brother a message that you're coming with your parents to visit him.

Now, why is the father acting like Pran shot Pat? Uncle, I'm sorry, my brain is already fried right now; I can't deal with you and your decades old rivalry at this moment.

Okay, real talk now. I honestly feel a bit let down and disrespected. The series has been building up to something extraordinary, and now I get this?! Did something happen in the writers room? There was an underlying tonal shift almost as if they were laughing at me for taking this show seriously. I mean, someone needs to answer for this. Now, let me try and summarise what all they tried to accomplish this episode:

Everyone in the university knows about their relationship and they face consequences for it.

They wanted Wai to be okay with Pat and Pran being together.

They wanted Pran to face Pat's parents and them being suspicious of his relationship with their son.

Cool, got it. Let's examine how they went about achieving each of these now and how else they could've accomplished the same because honestly this is how I'm feeling right now:

So, the whole university knows that these two guys from all-time rival faculties are now dating, and almost nothing happens? Pat gets treated like an outcast for 2 seconds. I mean, he was selected as class president by his seniors. If they really wanted me to take their faculty rivalry seriously, I would've gotten at least one scene where Pat was forced to make a choice between his relationship with Pran or his position of power in the faculty. I don't know, maybe my expectations were a lot higher for what the fallout for each would be. At least there were some repercussions for Pran dating Pat and keeping it a secret from his friends. The whole response to the reveal felt very anticlimactic (to me).

Now, let's talk about Pat getting shot. It was just unnecessary. Wai was already okay with Pat after Pat intervened in the club when Wai was being mistreated. He would've stopped being mad at Pran eventually and come around about their relationship given some time.

What about Pran running into Pat's parents and them being suspicious of their relationship? Could they have accomplished it without having Pran run into them in the hospital? Yes, I don't know why we are forgetting this, but they live in the same dorms and are neighbors. Given how frequently they have sleepovers, Pat's father could've just dropped by like he did previously in Ep 2, if I'm not wrong, and maybe find some of Pran's things lying around and take it from there. Instead of going through all that, given Pat's dad's propensity for just dropping by the university to meet one of his professor friends, he could've just seen them holding hands on a bench outside, somewhere, anywhere.

We still don't know who actually saw them leave together in Pat's car. Wai didn't recall it when he was going through his montage of Pran lying to my face about his relationship with Pat moments. I thought I'd see Pran's mom at the play because she apparently gets a bat signal whenever her son is near a musical instrument with Pat, but maybe not in this case?

Okay, I'm being snarky now, but it's because I feel duped. Maybe I'm taking this show too seriously, but until Ep 8, the show told me that it wants to be taken seriously. I hope it's just a one-off and they'll find their footing with the next episode.

Think I meant to do this back when I was vaguely liveblogging my 3rd watch of S6 a few weeks ago, but hit me on said rewatch how much the Sunfire elf plotline is built around Betrayal.

Janai is betrayed by Karim staging a coup in late S4 with the duel of blood and ash, and Karim is betrayed by his own lack of understanding regarding his sister thanks to Amaya's influence in her life.

Then Miyana receives the sun seed and dips in S5, betraying Janai more heavily outright in favour of Karim. (You could also argue Kim'Dael's lack of loyalty is a betrayal of Karim, but I think it's interesting how centralized it is within the Sunfire royal family.) Janai accordingly calls Karim "treacherous" in S6 as well.

In S7, Karim betrays the traditional of a peaceful parlay by lying to Ezran / Corvus and taking them captive. But finally, Karim gets his comeuppance by relying on and being betrayed by Sol Regem, who got what he wanted (his wings healed) and was another pawn in Aaravos' game through his hold on Pharos.

Which I think reaffirms one of the most important lines of Janai's speech in 6x02:

1 - how tarlos and lone star brought me back to tumblr and fandom after almost a decade

i still kind of feel like a bit of an imposter/outsider since i've only really been on here since late october, i think? i posted my first tarlos fic to ao3 after 5x05 aired, and then shortly after revived this tumblr account from the dead (my last post before then was literally in 2015 lol) because i was just itching for more tarlos and lone star content. rediscovering the joy of being part of a fandom has been such a highlight of the last year for me. it's a little intimidating to join a fandom that seems so tight-knit and already fully formed, but i want to thank anyone who's ever tagged me in anything and made me feel like i was also welcome to join in on the fun and not just lurk from the outside 💜

2 - liveblogging and post-episode analysis

i am a yapper and a rambler at heart and i've loved being able to liveblog the last few episodes and just sit with my feelings and write up my silly little thoughts. something about putting those thoughts into words and throwing them out into the void, even if nobody sees it, makes it such a different experience than just watching the episodes alone. my first post-episode word vomit about the tarlos loft fight will always remain my favourite because it's about them and love and family.

3 - fanfic, obviously

there are SO many talented fic writers in this fandom, i truly feel so blessed. my to-read list continues to grow by the day, and i hope that never stops being the case. i also want to shout out love game by @welcometololaland, which holds a special place in my heart because while it was not my first tarlos fic, it was my first foray into reading tarlos au fics, and the one that made me realize i actually really love au fics in general. i read it for the first time around this time last year, and have reread it so many times since then (and i definitely owe you all the comments lola, i'm so sorry! i promise one of those guest kudos is from me tho 🥲)

anyway let me stop being all in my feels and just say that despite being sad about the show ending soon, i'm so glad i'm not sad about it alone 💜

I just need to brag for a second and, as a fellow connoisseur of the Dramatic Stylings of Mr Kanaphan, I thought you'd get it - I've been watching reactions to ep 5 and nobody clocks that the phone call is fake until they actually see Kant outside the assassin's lair (well, a couple started wondering after Fadel's line about him finally being trustworthy followed by Style looking shifty!). But I knew before he even answered the call, all thanks to yet another tiny but fantastic moment of First Face Acting: there's a split second before he picks up where you see him look up from the phone with a sort of 'oh fuck' expression, which would make sense if it was someone like the Captain calling, but then by the time he answers he's back to normal, and it's (theoretically) Babe, so why would he have made that expression upon seeing his beloved younger bro calling? Unless it's not so much an 'oh fuck' but a 'fuck, here we go', cos the game is now on. And then that's just compounded by the exaggerated 'Huh??' he lets out, because no way that's First acting shocked - it's so OTT! That is First acting Kant acting shocked, and we all know by now that Kant is no First. And just the entire conversation after he hangs up - it's so fake! It's so Kant! The whole 'oh I couldn't possibly spoil your fun. No, I will go alone like the long-suffering martyr that I am' - said the lying liar who lies! (even if the long-suffering martyr thing actually is true - ooo yet another example of him only being able to pull off lies based in truths! Plus I would kinda love it if Kant deliberately used the younger bro in peril sob story to tug at Fadel's heartstrings, even though I think it was prob just a convenient excuse - two birds with one stone though I guess!). Sorry, this got away from me! Point is: First is amazing and he's doing SO MUCH with this role, bringing SO MUCH nuance to the table - the least we viewers can do is try and pick up what he's putting down instead of...well, let's just say I agree wholeheartedly with your impulse to take Kant away from an undeserving audience!

And PLEASE do a deep dive into the Fadel=Kant thing because yes! I was just thinking bout all the Fadel meta re. why he folded so fast and so thoroughly - years of repression etc. - and how that will most likely apply to Kant too: once he gives up the 'I'm an unfeeling mission-oriented' ghost, and resigns himself to the fact he's in love, he's gonna be sooooooooooo gone! He's gonna be the most unbearably sappy lovesick romantic loser in the whole show! And for the exact same reason - because he's spent so long denying himself. They are the same person! It's just the wrapping that's different - Kant's all glitzy gold foil with velvety ribbon flourishes while Fadel is recycled black Kraft paper, but once you tear it all off you get the same present underneath: a protective, self-sacrificing orphaned older brother trapped in a toxic and coercive dynamic with an authority figure, armed with an array of failing defense mechanisms (e.g. Fadel's coldness, Kant's dishonesty), and undone by a penchant for unhinged chaos gremlins. I hope they're reluctant bffs by the end of the show!

oh yes yes yes on the call front i was so shocked people were genuinely believing that cause i literally said in my liveblog i clocked he was lying from the exaggerated “huh??” - the points about his face right before the call too is great, like first is doing SUCH an incredible job showcasing when kant is being genuine vs when he’s lying through his teeth. and it’s like okay, i get not everyone is good at picking up on nuances and microexpressions and what not but with kant it’s not even about the small things because again he’s a BAD LIAR! first makes it so so obvious for us what kant is feeling at any given moment because it’s obviously written on his face even when he’s trying to lie. that’s why his lies that aren’t really lies work the best, because there is truth to it!

god genuinely kant is such a FASCINATING character and first is doing such an incredible job portraying him in all his nuances. and i absolutely do plan to do a deep dive into all the ways fadel and kant are exactly the same especially cause it’s crazy how different the audience reaction is to them both when again, they’re very, VERY similar characters. your description of them is honestly perfect because while their packaging may be different, it’s all the same underneath. and like bison already has kant completely wrapped around his finger, style even pointed it out, so it’s gonna be beautiful to see when he can truly allow himself to feel everything for bison :)

ok . well . not to get emotional or anything but i am going to cry a little ….

i made this blog in october of this year . i was coming off of a terrible mental health episode. i started therapy again just around a week before i started this blog. i was intimidated- i had only watched the playoffs that year . i had never watched hockey before that. i knew no one. fast forward a few months, i learned i had bpd, and it shook me so hard . this community has been so kind to me. so willing to support me when i feel down and invited me with open arms when i desperately needed friends and a hobby . i have loved every second of every game . both winning and losing . krakenblr has quickly become my favorite place on the internet. kraken lb has made me so so happy. i got back into writing because of all the encouragement that was offered to me here. thank you all for everything :,) i am so looking forward to firebird playoffs and nhl playoff bracket stuff with you all. and weathering the storm of trades and free agents and the off season . thanks everyone so much <3

Mitternacht Mitternacht! She realizes King wouldn't have written those letters! Biggest plot twist to me is that King is a butch woman, awesome as hell really! Speaking of King, THERE SHE ISSSSS!!!! INSTANTLY LOVE HER!

RIFT! ALL THE GODS HERE! (Silly thing my friend got overwhelmed cause they voiced three of the gods and I ended up taking over one of the gods they voiced). INSPEKTAAAAAAA!!!!

Ough the Inspekta fight was insane, none of the other gods were truly mad at him, they only tried reasoning with hiiimmmmm! Guuuhhhh, and it actually worked then the rift turned Inspekta back into a mortal and his real name is Hector and- GAHHH! Only problem I had with the fight was it was hard to read what the gods were saying while trying to dodge, and half the time they got caught off prematurely!

Dude the "King is a hot butch" reveal is the funniest thing cause its like. Super smash brothers Everyone Is Here moment!!! I do wish we got more of the gods interacting with one another in-game, those bits of them together at the rift were sooo lovely. Yknow, what bits they got in-between Inspekta ending the world and trying to kill us. And then everyone is here part two with the Bizzyboys!!!!! I remember seeing their ball-form sprites when i was like midway thru and was like ?? what is that. why are they doing that. i havent seen these sprites before. So when it happened at the end i was like OH I KNOW THIS!!!

Hector is so good, I love to Think About Him and thankfully so do so many fanartists out there. So much complexity in this guy who talks with a silly accent, I wouldn't have it any other way. I eat up the Hector and Capo angst, I love when fictional characters are awful for each other.

Holy shit. I'm SO MAD! Those monsters! They murdered their children! And forced Kino to suffer the knowledge of their fates and the burden they placed on them! God damn.

Mind you, I'm pissed in a complimentary way. Great art makes you feel things, and this has me in a way, let me tell you. God, seeing the look on Kino's face as they watched that town die...it was really rough.

Something I like about this series is that it presents you with facts, not opinions. The narrative generally doesn't judge the characters within it; it simply presents them, and all but explicitly invites you to judge them. It's an approach very rarely taken, and it's pretty interesting. It's also reflected very neatly in its protagonist; Kino is very carefully, deliberately neutral and apathetic in their interactions with most characters, and the times they drop that mask and care are among the most interesting moments in the series. I'll confess, I don't like Kino as a person very much; that kind of apathy doesn't sit well with me, especially when it's a deliberate choice, as it is in Kino's case. But as a protagonist? They're very, very interesting. I like thinking about what makes them tick.

This is NOT the end of Kino on this blog! The patron who picked this show wants me to do the pilot ("Episode 0") and the two movies, so we're not done yet. Look forward to that!

Monday, August 12th: The Patreon release of some more of Justified Episode one, and then that night, the movie club for The Lucky Mill! There's a separate post on that, I'll make sure to reblog it again a few times.

Tuesday, August 13th: First of all, It's Lena's birthday! According to my canon, the only one that matters. Weirdly this is not related to it being close to my birthday--I picked it out of a book about birthdays that I use for that sort of thing. I 'found' her personality and just made that her birthday. It's how I did it for all the Overwatch characters. ANYWAY.

It'll be a 'liveblog' (More like a series of long posts) about Season 2, Episode 9 of Vinland Saga. I streamed this show, and really really liked it, but Oath was, I think, my favorite of a series of very good episodes, and I can't wait to really talk about it.

Wednesday, August 14th: IT IS MY BIRTHDAY SHOWER ME WITH AFFECTION. I am going to the fair all day. It is also, no joke, Doc Holliday's birthday. How's that for fuckin kismet?

Thursday, August 15th: A series of unhinged essays about the television show Interview With The Vampire, deeply informed by the fact that the Vampire Chronicles were akin to my Harry fucking Potter when I was a deeply weird 13-16 year old. HUGE spoilers for the books, but honestly the TV show has been so different that it might NOT be a spoiler for the show ahaha. (I do very much like the show, in case anyone is worried it'll be a hateblog.)

That night: @keyofjetwolf and I will be watching S2E5 of Interview. She will have only seen UP to that point, and it's one of my favorite eps (I am sure all of you who have seen it know why)

Friday, August 16th: We finish off with a drunken stream. I will be asked to identify anime and what they are about in what I can only assume is some kind of Who Wants To Be A Weeaboo Piece of Shit, while I am drunk. May include audience participation. I just wanna take a second to thank all the people following my ISAT liveblogged playthrough posts. It’s like y’all are on the couch with me, watching me play. Every like is like a little cheer at a difficult moment, or a little laugh at something funny. Joel POV (My first POV for this session):

Joel, the ex-Shrek, running around dropping lines from "All Star" in conversation is everything I could have wanted.

Joel: If you were a color, what color would you be? Pearl: Red.

Can't argue with that.

Lizzie: You like my path? Joel: I do. Is it going to link up with mine? Lizzie: We've got connecting paths now. Joel: I didn't realize we were that close. Lizzie: To touch paths. Joel: I know we're married, but come on... It's getting a bit crazy now.

Okay I switched to Grian's POV because Joel came up to the rest of the Mounders and they were all giggling and telling him to go talk to Grian, so swapping my liveblog over:

?? Grian's task was to bait a yellow into believing his task was singing everything he says, that feels kinda unfair to the yellows because it doesn't give them a way to call him on it, does it? slkdjf

That is really funny he needs to get someone to call him out in order to succeed, though.

Love how Etho said "Aha" after looking at his task even though he hadn't even received that suggestion yet.

You nerds really gonna be like "Etho and I aren't romantic" and "We're besties" and then put a single bed inside your house, huh? What am I supposed to do with that.

??? Martyn does not have my suggestion so I guess he and I just had the same brain wave. Alas. Here were some suggestions I put in Tango's Session 3 comments, for anyone curious:

Reference events from past Life series at least 4 times in conversation with other players (Ex: "This reminds me of that one boogeyman kill in Last Life; remember when X happened?") - [Some ideas that come to mind are that it would be funny to pester players who missed seasons by lightheartedly teasing them about events they weren't around for]

Alternatively: Convince at least 2 players that a falsified event happened in Secret Life or a past Life series [Ex: "Haven't you seen the fanart of this? I'll send it to you later." / "Remember, we were all there? Oh, you didn't play in that series; I guess you wouldn't know."]

?? They took the world border out of the Nether. Untapped escape routes in Hell.

I appreciate "mayor" Scar chasing the Big Dogs away and telling them he was going to send them to the pound.

(Loud sigh). Scar upset with Martyn for peeing on (dumping water on) his base. Martyn is running amok. Unrestrained.

Whether we same brained or he read that, I'm satisfied. Also Etho saying "Martyn, you should write tasks because that's a great idea." I'll take it, slkdfj.

Watched a few minutes more of Martyn, he's talking with Joel and I have nothing to say atm, switching back to Joel:

I appreciate how Martyn allowed Etho to buy his silence but then he runs to Joel and starts dropping hints.

Joel working on his farms before pressing the success button is mildly stressing me out. (Oh, he was waiting for safe day).

I always admire Joel's commitment to getting the right colored resources, especially wood. He takes so much pride in his builds even in the deathgame.

One of my other task suggestions was to break game rules for part of the session and I used the example of wearing a helmet. If Scar has that task, that will be quite funny. He's being super sus about that helmet and even talking like "I can take it off! I'll take it off right now" which would line up with my 50% of the session suggestion. I'll have to check on him next.

What is in Etho's Secret Life water; he is SO clingy and mushy with Joel every episode.

Joel calling Scar out for breaking the rules... is this my task, I am so curious.

Kind of surreal watching this play out. Definitely picking up the vibe that the players screened tasks together before putting them in and so they've got "rule breaker" as a possible option in their minds and that's why they're so quick to jump in and call Scar out on that TODAY despite the fact that he was also breaking rules in previous episodes. Very curious.

Martyn's calling a meeting, seems like a good time to pop over and check on Scar's task. Episode title is him calling himself a server villain so it might not be my task, but that's very funny anyway. Let's see.

Alas... It is not my "Break the rules for 50% of the episode" task suggestion, but the task he does have is really clever (Do the opposite of what people tell you to do).

Gonna bounce back to Joel and finish his episode and return to Scar later, but that will be a fun watch <3 Still getting the vibe that they screened my task ideas and maybe we will see it another day. We shall see.

I like the mental image of Scott looking up, covered in mud and dirt, as the Task Force comes barreling over the hill like "We caught you mud-handed!!"

Congrats to Joel for finishing a nice fence around his base, lighting it up, and chopping down the trees to prevent skeleton spawning! He's doing pretty well this season.

It's fun to see how careful and skilled Grian is. He's been a very high-heart green name for several episodes and it gives me 3rd Life vibes again.

That said, he lost a bunch in the caves... but I get why, gotta do the mining. Oh geez, zombie kid with a sword hits hard. Ouch.

Loving his dramatic music, though. It was interesting a few months ago when I went back and started binging some early Hermitcraft episodes, because you never appreciate the skill these guys have with subtle music until you compare them to their older videos which feel more awkward and empty. gg.

Holy GEEZ, Grian's dropping hearts like mad. Also watching him panic as his hunger meter drops because he's out of food is super funny. Yeah, that'll kill you.

Grian Session 4 would be a good early watch with that kind of tension... Also I love him limping into his base and devouring berry after berry.

Scar unable to take off his helmet because everyone keeps going "?? Take off your helmet!" and he can't.

?? How interesting that red lives can't immediately PVP other players, but that's hilarious that they're supposed to have a never-ending chain of harmful tasks to complete. My Top Five Favorite 2nd Doctor Stories

1. The War Games - Genuinely the most innovative concept in the entire B&W era imo as well as providing a great conclusion to the era and introduction to the greater Timelord culture.

2. The Mind Robber - There’s some behind-the-scenes lore about the haunted house section of The 1st Doctor Story “The Chase” that the belief that that setting occurred within the imagination would be disastrous to the concept of Doctor Who as a whole. This story proves that notion completely wrong.

3. The Macra Terror -

THERE ARE NO MACRA! also Jamie does a little dance. I watched the animation and this was definitely my favorite animation of the era.

4. The Web of Fear - This story is a lot more important than I thought it would be. The first proper follow-up to a previous non-Dalek story with The Abominable Snowmen, the intro for The Brig, and this might be Victoria’s strongest story outside of her intro.

5. The Power of The Daleks - I was a bit conflicted on whether to put this one or The Evil of The Daleks for the unique setting and Victoria’s introduction, but I think this one wins out for me. Not just for Troughton’s introduction, what actually sells this story is the reactions of Ben & Polly to The 2nd Doctor as we see Polly quickly adapt and act jolly with the new Doctor and Ben be absolutely FURIOUS and these reactions really help to sell how groundbreaking it was even then.

I think my takes on the 2nd Doctor era fall within what most people think of as the best in contrast to some of my favorites of 1’s, but I hope you enjoyed all the same. Thanks for the support of my silly liveblogging in the past 24 hours : )

Once again diving back into the Rakha liveblog with a lil drabble I've been thinking about. I've been focusing a lot on Rakha and Jaheira in recent weeks as Rakha's learned about her heritage and they've gone in search of Minsc and Lae'zel, but I want to make sure I'm doing some focus on Wyll as well - and this time at Elerrathin's home seems like a good place for some of it.

Wyll darts side to side, his boots making soft scuffing noises on the wood of the porch. “Careful,” he says with a gentle grin, watching as Fig flails with the training sword, trying to hit him. “It's not about guesswork. You want to be sure every movement has purpose. If you're going to be in a real fight, energy is a valuable resource. Don't waste it.”

Fig's eyes are bright and excited; she's deeply thrilled at how seriously he's talking to her, like a grownup. “Okay!” she agrees. She goes more still, gripping the sword's hilt tightly with both hands, watching his back-and-forth movement with intense concentration. Then she swings-- 

THWACK. 

The sword lands smartly on Wyll's forearm and he lets out an exaggerated yelp. “Ah! Well struck!” he says, rubbing the injury ruefully. 

Fig giggles triumphantly. “Gotcha!” 

“You have the patience of a much older man, Wyll Ravengard,” Jaheira says. She's standing in the doorframe of the Home, watching him with her daughter; a slight smile touches her lips, which is quickly masked into sardonic amusement as he looks up at her. “There are not many who can face down Fig's fury with such aplomb.”

He straightens up. “At the Grove, I taught some of the young ones from Elturel a little swordplay,” he explains. Regret stabs through him; none of those children were at Last Light, nor the refugee camp outside the city. “I… don’t know if it helped. But I did what I could.”

Jaheira nods. “They did speak of you, you know. Those who survived to reach Last Light. I did not realize it was you they meant until later - but your help was not forgotten.”

He smiles slightly. “Thank you.” He watches Fig as she begins to batter away at the training dummy. “Loosen your grip a little, lass,” he murmurs. “Don’t get too stiff.”

Jaheira is still watching him thoughtfully. “You have been very quiet, these last days,” she says after a little while. “And with good reason - but nevertheless you have followed, and fought for Minsc, and me, and Rakha. I think it is about time I asked after you.”

He says nothing for a little while, but reaches out to adjust Fig’s stance gently. “What is there to say?” he asks softly, not looking at Jaheira. “My father--” He stops, tries again. “I suppose I always thought we’d…” He trails off into silence.

Jaheira waits. When he doesn’t speak further, she murmurs, low enough that even Fig will not hear, “It is not your fault, Wyll.”

“Of course it isn’t,” he says shortly. “It’s bloody damned Mizora’s.”

“Wyll. Look at me.” She waits until he lifts his eyes to hers. “It is not your fault.”

He swallows. “It was my choice…” he whispers.

“Mizora put you into a game with no winning move. A disgusting business. But you made the choice your father would have wanted.” He tries to look away but she jerks her head forward, forcing his eyes back to hers. “You hear me, yes? Rakha and Karlach can tell you this all they like and you will not believe them - but you see now… I can know this for certain.” She looks to Fig, then over her shoulder inside the house where the other children wait. 

“It is a terrifying thing to be a parent,” she says after a short pause. “And to realize that your life means little to you next to theirs. It happens while you are not paying attention, pounces like an animal and puts its teeth into your throat, and it does not let go.” She returns her eyes to Wyll’s, and her expression is sober and serious. “He would not have wished you to do otherwise than you did. I give you my word on it.”

Wyll says nothing. His fingertips rub absently over the hilt of the rapier that Mizora gave him, feeling the hellfire heat within the hilt. Jaheira did not know his father, did not know the iron solidity of him, the depth of his dedication to the city above all. The depth of disappointment he showed when he felt Wyll had betrayed that duty. “He was able to turn me away,” he says, and is surprised at the hollowness of his own voice.

Jaheira frowns. “May the gods put damnation to the pride of men,” she mutters bitterly. “For it sullies everything it touches.” She sighs, rubbing a hand down her face. “It does not change the fact, Wyll--”

“Perhaps.” He flinches at his own too-sharp tone, then looks up, deliberately softening his voice. “I hear you. I do. And… perhaps you’re right, and one day I’ll be able to see it. But I need… I need to do the duty he left for me, if any of this is to mean anything at all. The dragon below the keep…” His voice cracks. “His last trust in me. After so long…”

Jaheira hesitates. Then she steps forward and carefully lays a hand on Wyll’s arm. “Then we will see to it that you do,” she says quietly. “I don’t think Rakha will need me to tell her so, either. She knows its weight to you.”

He nods, draws a slow shaky breath and releases it, relaxing a little at the comforting touch. “I would want us to go after Lae’zel first, anyway,” he says after a moment. “Who can tell what Orin might do to her? But after…”

“After… we will find your dragon.” She nods.

“For the good of the city.”

“Of course.”

Thoughts on Fit's Last QSMP stream- spoilers ahead

It is Thursday, May 23rd, 2024. 2:36pm EST when writing. And I am disappointed in myself. Not for anything Fit, the server, the admins, or anyone besides me has done.

I hoped. And once again, I am expectedly crushed. I had a feeling that Fit would take himself out of the equation in the way he did. There would be no Pac Camio (ghost or living), no sight of Ramon either. Just business, as Fit is one to do.

But god did I hope for something out of a fanfiction. The biggest contenders were Pac's ghost or a hallucination speaking to Fit at the bottom of that damn hole to prep and escort him to the afterlife where everyone was waiting for them. OR the idea that Fit, after returning to the island, would kill himself in a similar but unique way to Pac and Mike. Regardless, neither happened. But I am very happy in what I witnessed.

I won't get into too much there will be vod watchers who accidentally stumble into Tumblr- to which I tell you, GO WATCH THE DAMN VOD.

Nonetheless, I enjoyed the Fit abused in-game mechanics to justify his survival down there. However, it calls into question whether or not he took up cannibalism again (writers you know what to do) in which I digress cus that a conversation within itself. I also appreciated that Fit made the effort to check up on more people other than just Pac and Ramon. It sounds like "Yeah, ofc." but let us remember that most of us (and I could be wrong) are shippers, and our yearning for Hideduo kind of blindsided the other relationships q!fit has. (This applies to me to just so yall know)

What fit did to justify or at least give credence to Ramon's character was sweet and I really hope we get some Ramon-centric fics about the possibility of his survival in an otherwise abandoned world, similar to his father. I may do that on my own but definitely not today. Mr. Fit Em See fucking wrecked me and I really could use some fluff right now. Whether it be at my own hand or someone else's, I could not care less.

Hueveitos, we are all going through it. And I bet on all the money I have that Twitter is going insane, Tumblr is dying, and Fit is either taking a well-deserved break or laughing his ass off at us. Probably both knowing that fucker. The brilliant bitch he is. I apologize for not liveblogging, I was enamored with what was going on. But we all were lol

Anyway, I'm probably gonna listen to the music Fit included in the finale and daydream of better days for q!Fit. Ones where, maybe, in another life, something happened on Madagascar's end where the tech didn't work and Fit was suspended in the QSMP for the rest of his natural life. Maybe Ramon is fine enough and just wondering, looking for Fit in an otherwise empty world. Hell, in another life, Pac waited longer for his American boyfriend. Maybe everyone did. Maybe the kids didn't get sick, maybe they all died a week or so after they were found. Who knows!

But with what we were given, and who we had to spend that time with, I know that I'll always look back on the Qsmp in a similar vein to another sorry sap of a sever I know. The memories will persist, the story will continue to be told. The world will keep spinning, and I will keep writing.
