Terios was deep sleeping and accidentally lashes out at his little brother. Leaves him with something that hurts, but of course, Clip won’t show that. Once Ter is fully awake and can realize what he did, he doesn’t know what to say. What is he supposed to say?! He hurt his brother!

Whatever happened to Eclipse he’ll say it’s fine, it doesn’t hurt, he’s fine. Terios is somewhat bad with understanding tone, though. He must be angry with him! But Terios is too afraid to say something else about it. Eclipse doesn’t even go to take care of it or anything, just goes back to his mattress. Because it doesn’t even hurt! He can’t be hurt! Never mind what I woke up for, it’s nothing.

Maybe he shouldn’t have tried to say anything about his stupid personal problems. Just being a bother.

I’d think that the next day is awkward. Both of them have something going on that they DO NOT want to talk about and that’s not helping the whole case. They can eventually work things out as it was an accident, and maybe Clip can soon say what he wanted to say (if he even decides to open up about it a second time. This is Eclipse we’re talking about after all,) but it takes a while of course. Communication skills aren’t exactly a plus in this family tree.

Or you know. We could make the awkwardness last for multiple days due to lack of communication skills. And make them hurt even longer. Yk. We could always do that instead. Whatever works.

Hi, I absolutely love this project and all the ideas but may I suggest an addition? I've seen a lot of posts trying to help people to comment, with the dos and don'ts, different ways to comment etc. but I have never seen a post on how to reply to comments as an author. Yet I've seen a lot of authors express that they don't actually really know how to reply or feel insecure about it.

So if we want to foster a fandom space that's more about community and less about content creators and consumers, maybe some resources about replying to comments might also help?

Ooh, yes. There are a few scenarios that come to mind where I commonly struggle in replying to comments:

just as a story that stirred up a tornado of amazing emotions makes a comment difficult to compose, a COMMENT that stirred up a tornado of amazing emotions makes a reply equally difficult!! how to express the jumbled joy and gratitude and excitement and and and

i find myself tone matching the comment? or trying to? only if the comment has a tone or style that i feel awkward utilizing, i'm afraid that awkwardness is coming across, and not in a charming way (ditto for feeling self-conscious if my reply is longer that the original comment. which... makes no sense?? it's like i'm afraid of coming across as desperate or something and i'm trying to play it chill 😂 THIS MIGHT JUST BE ME. I TEND TO OVERTHINK THINGS)

it's a WIP and i feel guilty for not updating in awhile, so my avoidant personality quirks hamstring my ability to reply... it's like i feel undeserving of the kindness? or like i use the comment to bargain with myself--go make progress on the WIP and then you can mention that in your reply!!--and then i fail to make progress and the bargain falls apart 😅

as a writer, i feel bad if my replies to different comments sound too similar. as though similarity = insincerity. OR like when you're drafting and you're like OH NO can't use that particular word/phrase because i just used it in a recent paragraph and surely others will notice the awk repetition and deem me clunky 🙃

very rarely, there are comments that make me feel shitty, often through some thoughtless phrasing (I truly don't think any of them intended to hurt my feelings), and so I'm left in the strange position of wanting to defend myself/my fic while wanting to avoid confrontation because i hate confrontation while wanting the commenter to be aware of how they might word things more sensitively in future while fearing i might alienate a reader when i need readers to LIVE 😭

Looking back on this list, it's very possible these are all manifestations of my very particular quirks and idiosyncrasies and whatnot, but it's also possible others are struggling in similar ways so I'm gonna post it anyway.

Any other aspects of replying to comments that writers struggle with? Any tips or tricks for how to reply to comments in a way that fosters community?

I'll start working on my own list of how I navigate the issues described above. Because I DO reply to comments and think it's so important for nurturing fandom life and inviting goodness into your own life.

Not to be too sappy but one of my best friends started out as a rambling raving commenter. One of those every chapter rambling raving commenters (the GOOD STUFF 🤌🏻), and I replied in kind, and then he found me on tumblr, and fast forward just shy of a year and he's one of my top precious people.

Posting fic, reading someone's fic, commenting, replying to comments -- all of these are weirdly intimate acts, in a way. Hence the awkwardness? Depending on the fic, it's like "hello, this is the product of my brain and my fingers touching the keys, and i may or may not have poured my heart and soul into it." and commenters who may or may not detect such things sometimes have the wherewithal to reply, "it was beautiful. wonderful. i loved it." and then what do you say? "thank you" doesn't feel adequate at all. AT ALL.

Ooh, it depends on when that'd happen, during the movie period or after spring fling.

After spring fling, I think Regina would still be a little taken aback, but she would stare at Cady from a distance, mentally noting how beautiful she looks in her swimwear (whatever that may be).

Eventually Cady would see Regina and she would shyly go up to her to try and start a conversation.

If they happened to be away from other people from school, I think they would end up talking for hours and eventually realizing they truly like spending time with each other.

He is, to steal from Kia, a hopeless optimist about this. Once said hope is lost, however, how does he handle it? Well, as a rule, badly. He's a notoriously terrible patient, and even nowadays, when he knows he'll get ridiculously spoiled and cared for and fussed over by literally the only person he'd ever want that from, and he loves it, he's still kind of a pain in the ass. 🤣 Kia's pragmatic, and much, much better at self-medicating, but she gets a bit grumpy about it, too. If she's ever inclined towards vanity, it's when she's unwell - surely feeling like crap is plenty; no need to look like crap alongside it, lol. But she's much more likely to take it in her stride than her dearly beloved, who is fortunately vastly superior at looking after her than he is at looking after himself. You'd think he'd work this out sometime, but nope.

Also, (I'm looking far too into this I think) what is his relationship with food as he grows up?

I grew up hungry and sometimes wouldn't eat for a day or so until I was able to get lunch at school. As such, I became a food hoarder. Like I'd let food go bad because seeing bad food was better than seeing no food.

My husband held a bit of intervention after we got married and I learned how to preserve food which helped a ton.

It hasn’t been asked before actually! I hadn’t given much thought to that yet, aside from a Father’s Day post I have around here somewhere with them all attempting to cook with... mixed results. I should find that again, hee.

Wild and Malon probably both try to teach him how to cook, but Hyrule just isn’t good at it. They eventually get him to the point where what he makes is technically edible, but the taste... leaves something to be desired, lol.

And it’s not too much! I like to hear people’s thoughts on things. It gets my brain going, and hearing about experiences and things is helpful for developing stuff (even if the experiences aren’t the best. I’m sorry you grew up hungry, that had to have been rough).

Hyrule’s relationship with food... it differs, a little bit. I mention in the fic where he first shows up that he had to get used to eating three meals a day, but that was mostly because he’d been with a group that really didn’t feed him unless they had to. He mostly scrounged for stuff to eat then, and before that he lived on the streets for a bit and really had to just eat whatever he could find.

But anyway, that’s mostly background. I think after he was adopted, it took him time to realize that it was okay for him to eat if he was hungry, and ask for food as well. He probably hoarded/hoardes food “just in case” too— keeps a stash of stuff hidden so that if he’s not fed he has something to fall back on (and he knows his parents wouldn’t keep him from eating, and he knows they have plenty of food, but... old habits die hard).

1. What is your watcher's class? How does it relate to their backstory?

In PoE1 Sabina is a rogue, primarily using a rapier. When you're 16 and on the run from scorned noble houses of a crumbling kingdom intent on silencing you, you find yourself in some...unsavory situations. Sabina did what she had to do to not only survive, but keep a low enough profile to avoid drawing the attention of those seeking her. She lived this way for about 7 years, until she could get her hands on an offer that would take her out of Old Vailia and into Gilded Vale in The Dyrwood, where she could start a new life. However, she never lost her roguish skills.

In the 5 years between PoE1 and Deadfire, Sabina formed a close bond with a stag called Eamoc, and by the time Eothas destroyed Caed Nua she had become a Scout (rogue + ranger) with him as her ranger companion. She also added a pistol in one hand to her usual rapier in the other.

13. How does your watcher relate to their culture?

Sabina was born in Old Vailia, and her family has lived there for generations, but they are originally from the Dyrwood. In addition to my hc that the Vailian Republic accent sounds slightly more spanish/italian-inspired while the Old Vailian accent sounds more french-inspired, her family actually passed down their Dyrwoodan accent. This means while she speaks both Aedyran and Vailian natively, she speaks Vailian with a Dyrwoodan accent and Aedyran without a Vailian accent.

Even though her family did not belong to a noble house of Old Vailia, she took great pride in both her heritages, and it greatly saddened her to be, essentially, pushed out of her her homeland. Her Dyrwoodan roots are actually what drew her to Gilded Vale, so it didn't feel like she was starting over completely. In both games she feels strange as she is surrounded by what is almost her culture, in the Republic trading posts and the Principi, as well as when she talks to her friend Pallegina, but isn't quite the same.

It took her several years (so in between games) to shake off her homesickness and embrace her new home as the Lady of Caed Nua, which fit her like a glove. In contrast to her Vailian heritage, living in the Dyrwood felt like rediscovering a lost part of herself. She considers both The Dyrwood and Old Vailia to be her home, and would love to go back to either of them some day.

I would say him being a werewolf, but it seemed a lot of people who dabbles just a little in the supernatural out of town knows about that! So it would be that Scott tries finding another way to do things.

Stiles still climbs through the window! So what? Doesnt everyone now?

A secret exactly one person knows anything about:

But if I was to suggest a plain answer, it would be knowing certain foods, movie genres, and video game preferences between him and Stiles.

After all that time that Stiles has known Scott, he certainly thought he told scott to watch star wars that one summer without him and he didnt which was later exposed. (Because Scott was with his dad, but Scott doesnt say that part.)

If we want some good scisaac stuff, there is def a few things scott didnt think was important enough to tell his best friend that he tells Isaac. Its a lot of the things he considered silly before!

A secret no one knows about but they sorta want to come out/to tell someone:

How it was being with Rafael as a kid. Like the hotel stays, for example. He has JUST hinted at it recently with Stiles in high school, but even then, he isnt so sure if he wants to talk about the details. For keeping it in so long, he isnt so sure how tender he still is, or when it will ever be the right time.

A secret no one knows and they desperately dont want anyone to know about:

Time of Death (S5) where Scott hacks into Liam with the mute's axe. He vividly recalls liking it. When they referred to good or bad dreams, he didnt expect it to be that. No one has to know.

Their plan had kinda worked (with reviving him) and thats all that mattered for the people around him.
