speaking of hair do you think there is any symbolism to the characters who have one eye covered by their hair like lusamine and gladion for example

Oh yeah definitively.

The typical trope of characters having one eye covering their is usually used to evoke shyness, simply not being a very social person, a hidden personality or past, or, you guessed it, ✨trauma✨. And of the characters that have these bangs, they are kinda fit the bill.

Lusamine is the most interesing to me, bc it tells us so much, both before and after we know her story. Before, Lusamine looks like a generally trust worthy person. She seems kind, parental, and incredibly devoted. But then you look at her hair, and how it interacts with her face. For the sake of this post, let's just talk about her bangs. Lusamine's bangs doesn't fully cover her eye. You can see it ever so slightly peeking out. It kinda acts like this...hood, i guess, leaving an overcast shadow around her face. It helps make her otherwise more kind face feel more.....ominous. Her smile doesn't exactly look kind anymore, and her eyes don't seem that welcoming. Like there's something more that your missing. And then you actually get to know her, both in her actions throughout the main game, and what you learn from Lillie and Gladion. Going with what I said before, I do think Lusamine is a woman defined by trauma ( honestly, as he rest of the aether family is), but also someone who is still very cruel to those around her, a stark contrast to how she appeared before. And all of that is still conveyed through her bangs. Hiding one eye, but not fully, her bangs acting as a hood that cast a shadow over her face....it's really good!

Gladion is a similar story: a kid who has been traumatized by the loss of his father and the cruelty of his mother bc of that loss. Unlike Lusamine, his hair fully covers his eye, with you only being able to see it from the side. Again, it's a good way of showing his personality: someone who has something to hide, someone who more than what you think, someone who is possibly hurting. But what makes his hair special to me, is that it really cements the idea that Gladion is an emo ass teen who wants to look cool. If I'm remembering correctly, Gladion's rips in his clothes where done himself? And between the posing and the clothes, you cannot tell me that Gladion thought the hair covering one eye wouldn't be the coolest thing ever. That he would look so cool and mysterious. But, to not bully him too much, I can also see his hair as a slight defiance towards his mom? I dunno how he used to look when he was young, but given how Lusamine pretty much controlled how he and Lillie used to dress, I can imahine the freedom of Gladion being able to do fuck all with his own hair. Though, ironically, if his hair wasn't always covering his eye ( quickly checked the pokeani to see if that was the case and it wasn't! both of his eyes where visible), it would have made him and his mom more similar design wise.

What I said about Gladion, can be said for Arven too, tbh. Hidden past, hidden personality ( as in he's a sweetheart), lot's of trauma- the whole package. I will say, it's particularly funnier with Arven, bc at least Gladion tries to look intimidating and still kinda acts like how you would expect him too. But Arven is so insistent that he isn't sweet and nice even though he very much is. His tough guy act is actively failing lmao. Fucking dork.

And I know, I know there's Cynthia and Volo, but I think you guys would get the point already lol. Though I think Cynthia is pretty funny too. Her bangs are definitely there to make her look mysterious, and she is, but what's hidden is that she's actually a lil goofy. At least in the anime she is. And she's pretty disorganized, which is something you don't expect a woman like her to be at first glance. Honestly, she's a very funny subversion of expectations here lol.

5 random things that make me happy, in no order!

This is the blorbo space so of course I'm going to say playing ffxiv, making little stories and gposes and silly little outfits for ryss, especially making things for ryss and fornax... they just bring so much joy!!!

Exercising, be it with weights or biking or going to the swimming pool. I try to keep it diverse and to be careful for my poor knees, but it always makes me feel better and happier!

Cooking! Don't get me wrong sometimes I just don't feel like it, but I love when I can take the time in my day to make myself a good meal I'm really going to enjoy. And it's even better when I get to share the cooking and the meal with some of my roommates!

Lately, playing stardew with @verysmallcyborg! I hadn't played that game in like 5 years but I'm hooked right back in, and it's honestly a lot of fun doing it multiplayer. Another nice way to hang out and chill on a virtual farm scream at slimes ahahah

I have one where Ariel pops up as a Beauxbaton student in GoF and Harry is immediately like, why the fuck does she look like my dead mother? And Snape is perpetually literally ripping up pillows with his teeth and trying to not to blow his cover. Sometimes I think I’ll kill her instead of Cedric in order to bring Harry and Snape together and turn it into a “shit gets PERSONAL with Voldemort” fic but that’s a long ways away. Then I like the idea of her being dragged into this war and being like WHAT THE FUCK I JUST WANTED TO WIN A CONTEST.

lately chapter titles have been harder, usually I prename them in my outline but my outline is basically a suggestion at this point. the story titles are a bit easier, the idea usually starts with a title and a general plot before I flesh it out more.

15. What would they consider a waste of time– other than school or work?

(Past) Mostly the courtly stuff. Sterling likes diplomacy and stuff like that, but the more social things like dancing and being nice to other rich/royal people sucks. He's a shitty prince.

(Present) Lancaster would never say it out loud but as a guy who can't sleep or rest, having to wait for his friends to be fully rested to continue traveling is his answer. Not that he blames his friends at all, but it's more like "I have to sit here and fill time by doing inane shit because I want my friends to be ready for the journey ahead. I guess I'll practice swinging this sword. I guess I'll write in my journal. Oh gods it's only been 2 minutes."

19. Do they study before tests?

(Past) Absolutely not. Sterling was by no means dumb but he wasn't exactly looking to excel in his studies either. I guess you could say he was one of those guys who could just kind of get by-- not that it mattered, anyway.

(Present) I guess if Lancaster had to take any sort of test he would study. The rest of his friends are slowly learning common and he is the only one who doesn't get quizzed. Maybe he feels left out.

Oh gosh, it’s so contextual really! Recently I’ve been on such a broadway kick, but I’m gonna follow my gut on this one and say Precious Lord by Arnold Sevier (yes I know I’m Jewish shut up). My choir sings it most years and it is very sentimental and important to me and also very beautiful 🥺

4. what flower would you like to be given?

I’d be so excited to get any flowers honestly 😂 but I really love, like, small flowers? Like forget-me-nots and such. I have a lot of floral tattoos so I guess any that match those (forget-me-not, poppy, daisy, cherry blossom, there’s more but those are the flowers I remember off the top of my head). I had a thing about daffodils as a kid so those always bring an insane amount of nostalgia for me.

My eyes are a blue-grey! I have central heterochromia as well so there's a ring of yellowish-green around the pupil. It's not that evident unless I'm in the light though. my mom would call my eyes 'wolf eyes' growing up despite how wolves don't naturally have blue eyes in the wild without being bred with dogs.

9. which do you prefer, hot coffee or cold coffee?

Hot coffee to wake up and cold coffee to drink any other time.

I don't use soap bars, I only use body wash and hand soap! My current body wash is whiskey and coffee from bath and body works, or the grapefruit/bergamot from Native. My hand soap is just lavender lol

3. What is your writing ritual and why is it cursed? there are two answers to this.

the first one is that i fixate on a song for the entire time i'm writing, and when i say it's cursed, it's because one time i accidentally looped the song hell's coming with me for fifteen fucking hours, and did not notice, so! i know what's going to be at the top of my spotify wrapped, and have known since early april.

the other answer is that i have an idea, go to poke a friend about it and say something along the lines of "how long do you think i can write a fic about (insert topic here)" and the usual answer is somewhere around 5k. my response is almost always "fuck you," and despite my best efforts, they're usually right.

If a witch offered you the choice between eternal happiness with your one true love and the ability to finally finish, perfect, and publish your dearest, darlingest, most precious WIP in exactly the way you've always imagined it — which would you choose? You can’t have both sorry, life’s a bitch. i admittedly have no desire for actual romance, so true love is pushing it a little bit, but honestly? that's probably what i'd go with! i love writing for people, so just being able to know i'd always have that opportunity? to write for someone i love? how can i say no to that :D

"I was... seventeen?" She drawls, smoke curling from her nostrils. "My parents' hopes of my abilities making good money were coming to fruition and my performances were beginning to pay the bills and then some. I was starting to feel rather invincible. Too much so for a girl that wasn't used to the snobbery of the elite. However; there was a boy at one of the mansions I performed in that caught my eye. Some pampered thing with his nose in the air. I was so eager to impress him. My performance was some kind of celebration for his father who had just obtained some important public office position."

She lets go of several smoke-filled laughs. "During my dance performance, I tried to make sure I was motioning towards him for all of my flourishes; like some mating dance. My parents were so upset because I was ruining the choreography, but they couldn't exactly make a scene. I was smart enough by then to make it all look like it had been planned; but I was dumb enough to be smitten by some boy who didn't want to acknowledge my existence. So much so that I lost track of how much stage I had to work with, and in my enamored state I fell off of the stage!"

Her face is red, but mostly through laughter. "My parents were furious; and at first I was ecstatic because the boy I had been eyeing was right in front of me as I lay on the floor. But, all of my romantic thoughts were quickly destroyed, as all he did was look at me and turn to his friend and say 'this party is awful'. I didn't get my shining hero moment, and it became clear to me he wasn't interested; so all I could do was get up, dust myself off and start over."

Haruka takes another drag of her pipe. "I performed the rest of the evening without a hitch; we got paid. But that night cemented how well my dating life went for the next decade. Which is the fact that it was nonexistent until I met Iroh."

8. Which character(s) do you find easiest to write?

Self-serious characters with do-or-die conviction and a dry sense of humor! I would say "like me!" but I feel like such characters that I tend to be drawn to rarely have that chipper joie-de-vivre that a lot of people associate with me. But like, love to write a Guy who just knows what they're about, you know? Or thinks they know ...until.... >:3

20. Gen fic or shippy stuff?

Oh, shippy stuff, usually! Not out of any ire for gen fic, I just rarely have any ideas for gen fic that hits the interesting stakes that makes the brain ping-pong around that I do for shippy stuff. I almost had something going for Artemy and Rubin in Pathologic 2, a kind of meditation on their tense brother relationship. But uh, Jay White vs. Okada happened and I got distracted XD
