The colors of the aurora are caused by the atoms in Earth's atmosphere getting excited by the sun's charged particles slamming into them. Green tends to be the most common, showing excited oxygen particles 60-150 miles in altitude. It's also the easiest for our human eyes to detect. Red occurs higher up, above 150 miles, and because there's less oxygen, it takes a stronger stream to show up. Purple is also uncommon, and comes from excited nitrogen atoms below 60 miles. The fact that this display was so colorful was due to its immense strength from the five(!) coronal mass ejections that were belched out in our direction on Friday. The sun might yet serve up some more action as it's still in the peak of its 11-year cycle.

I didn't like every map in Inquisition, but the elven ruins were some of the best parts of it. Sometimes I think about how Suledin Keep was laid out where you're running through this kind of mazelike environment and then you can glance up at one point and there's this GIANT dread wolf statue watching you from the mountains. that was neat. Arlathan has giant statues too but imo they aren't framed in a very fantastic way where you can get startled like that. and where are the elven prayer puzzles. why can we not show our obeisance to the Evanuris with logic and whimsy :<

I loved Suledin Keep as well!

Especially since, by that point, you've fought your way through red templar camps and the giant behemoths to get to the *heart* of the operation at Suldein. There are red templars, rifts, the people/quarry operation, and then you get to the Keep and, like you said, there's that cool moment where you look up and the Dread Wolf is just LOOMING over you (like Solas in the story!).

Something that really appealed to me with this world was the tangible sense of the past, the consequences of decisions made ages ago, looming over you - the Blights, the Ancient Elves, the Dwarven Empire, Tevinter...the world never let you forget it.

And that's the whole game of DAI - wherever you go there's always traces of the people that came before you, unable to swept away by time or conquerors...and sometimes those people claw their way back to the present like Corypheous or Solas. In Ferelden you find traces of the Avaar and Chasind, In Orlais you find the remnants of the Elves, the Western Approach is dotted with Old Tevinter outposts and the Wardens, and the Hissing Wastes/Storm Coast with the dwarven ruins on the surface! I loved discovering every inch of those maps (large as they were lmao) and it added so much to the world. It made the world feel large! It added to the idea that this world had so much mystery to it - so much lost history.

And Arlathan?

It's a maze, not in a good way, but because parts are cut off only to be opened 'when allowed', and not like in Inquisition where there was a rock-slide or you needed a bridge etc... You're boxed in with glowing doors that tell you 'not now come back later' or water that instantly drowns you, and it's hard to not be taken out of the experience when the game is so very upfront with you that you are not supposed to explore until we say you can.

This game doesn't reward exploration, it has fast travel spots all over the place that seem to discourage it once you find an area. Camps in Inquisition were spread out over large maps but sparingly used in comparison - it still made certain that you explored the world to find new things on your journey from a to b. The quests train you to fast travel, to get to where you need to go - kill, talk, repeat. The game teaches you to look out for crap to break and so my eyes are rooted firmly on the ground because of it. The game can look gorgeous at times, but it doesn't feel like it wants me to look at it too hard, like it will break the illusion of this game lmao.

It's a personal opinion, of course, but my experience with this game was that it made the world smaller, less interesting, and devoid of that mystery and reverence that made this series so compelling. Like you said, there are some cool visuals like those giant statues in Arlathan, but everything else in the map is so condensed and twisting on each other that it's hard to notice them naturally while playing the game.

That would be so cool! I can get Andruil's alter having a hunting test - like with the Vir Tanadhal (the way of three trees), which is a hunting philosophy the Dalish have relating to Andruil who is the Goddess of the Hunt. That makes sense - you show deference to her by hunting according to her way.

...but for all of them?

It's a game design choice, I get that -> make it simple, keep it the same...it goes with the repetitive combat and exploration loop of this game. But they really lost out on showing us how the Evanuris differ to each other - how each of them had their own little 'aspect' they had dominion over in accordance to their lore. Why not have a little puzzle for June, God of the Craft? A riddle for Dirthamen, God of Secrets? Have some sort of brazier lighting puzzle for Sylaise, the Hearthkeeper, who gave the elven people fire?

From what we learn in DAI with the veilfire and temple of Mythal we know that they were massively egotistical assholes for the most part, some way more than most. They had their own temples, their own valaslin, their own mythology/legends...giving them all the same prayer puzzle is pretty dull when you consider how different they all are and the efforts they went to to distinguish them. Not that you'd really know in this game - for a game about the 'Elven Gods' there's very little discussion about the rest of them.

But, yeah, to sum it all up: Elven ruins in Inquisition were gorgeous, encouraged you to explore and interact with the lore with veilfire runes, and gave you some gorgeous set pieces like with the giant Dread Wolf statue in Suledin. Inquisition may not have been everyones cup of tea, totally get that, but for me it really captured the wonder of Thedas - the depth of its history...datv unfortunately did not.

rafayel pauses, taking a moment from the stars to look down at you. a brief silence and stargazing seemed to recall memories from your mind. you lean against his chest, nestled neatly in his arms.

“that’s a silly thought,” he murmurs.

you don’t read your gaze away from the stars. “you think so?”

“i would have found you no matter what and made you fall in love with me,” rafayel huffs, arms squeezing your body a little tighter.

a tender laugh slips out from you and rafayel wants nothing more than to take it from your lips into his. “it’s the truth,” he says, a familiar pout tugging at his expression.

you look up at him, amusement twinkling like stars in your eyes. “isn’t that what basically happened already?”

he grips you tighter, holding onto you as if you’d float away if he let go. that whiny tone returning as he speaks. “well, too bad, you’re stuck with me now!”

Writing prompt idea #2: Shadora date that's super silly but Rory's having the best time so Shadow is too (I've been playing too much Love and Deepspace and the claw machine dates are so cute they make me SICK)

Shut Up and Drive

“Where are we going?”

“I already told you, Light. It’s a surprise.”

“You hate surprises.”

“Not when they’re for you.”

“Hypocrite.”

“You love me.”

Aurora snorted. “I’d love you more if I weren’t blindfolded right now.”

“How else would I make sure you wouldn’t peek?” 

“You don’t trust me?”

“Normally? With my life. Right now? Not as far as I can throw you.”

“Spoilsport.” She pouted. “Wait…what’s that noise?”

“Just another minute.” There was laughter in Shadow’s tone, and Aurora grinned despite herself, allowing him to position her just as he wanted. Her ears twitched and wiggled, trying to place the odd roaring sounds, when warm lips suddenly pressed against hers, a hand on her cheek. Her tail wagged; she leaned into the kiss eagerly.

“Wa-Was that my surprise?” Aurora breathlessly asked.

“No. That was a bonus.” She could hear the smirk in Shadow’s tone and rolled her eyes behind the blindfold, hands on her hips.

“You know, for the Ultimate Lifeform, you’re awfully slow with your reveals.” She drawled.

 “So impatient.” Shadow tsked.

Aurora’s retort was cut off by blinding light chasing away the darkness, and she blinked repeatedly, then gasped, stars in her emerald eyes at the karts roaring by, bordered to the asphalt track by tires and multicolored flags. “Go-karts?” She squealed, bouncing on her heels, and didn’t give Shadow a chance to answer, instead yanked him by the wrist to the ticket window.

“You are going down, Spaceman.” Aurora crowed, revving the engine of her bright green kart and shooting a smug smirk towards Shadow.

Shadow flipped down his shades and pressed his foot to the gas pedal. It was no Dark Rider, of course, but it would do splendidly for his purposes.

Red.

Yellow.

Green.

Go!  

“GET BACK HERE, SPACEMAN!”

Disturbing thought:

When Vash incarnated in chapter one of Aurora, he did it with his shirt on.

When Kendal woke up in Alinua’s treehouse in chapter two, his shirt was un-damaged when he picked it up off the ground, despite just having suffered a stab wound through the shirt.

When Kendal got splashed by Erin’s void energy in chapter five, his shirt was burned and torn through, but it was perfectly intact by the start of chapter seven.

Kendal heals supernaturally fast.

Conclusion: Kendal’s shirt is technically a part of his body, which is why it repairs itself so quickly. Thank you for coming to my TEDtalk

The show was cut short. It was no one’s fault, the storm had just gotten too dangerous for them to carry on. They were all devastated, obviously, but it was the best decision to keep everyone safe. 

They all kind of awkwardly stood backstage, not fully knowing what to do. The usual post show adrenaline wasn’t there, with them not being on stage for long enough. 

Aurora watched as Mountain stormed off the stage, the scowl on his face was evident even Through the mask. He didn’t say a word to anyone, just grabbed Swiss by the hand and dragged him into his dressing room, slamming the door behind him. 

Dew had laughed at him, saying something about ‘it should have been me’ and ‘pray for Swiss’ ass because he’s gunna need it.’ Rain had slapped his hand over Dew’s mouth before he could say anything else. 

Aurora wasn’t really paying attention, she was too busy looking for the one ghoul missing. Phantom. He was her summoning brother, her twin flame, she felt the connection of his presence more then the others. Which meant she felt his absence more. 

“Hey, has anyone seen Phantom? She asked, looking nervously around the ghouls. 

They all shook their heads at her, looking around between them like they’d only just realised he wasn’t there. 

“I haven’t seen him since he scampered off stage.” Rain replied to her, his hand still covering Dew’s mouth. “He ran off so fast.” 

“Check in my dressing room for him.” Cumulus smiles sweetly at her as she speaks. “He likes to hide in there sometimes.” 

Aurora takes off in the direction of Cumulus’ dressing room before anyone can say anything else.

Just like Cumulus had said, Phantom was on her dressing room, sat cross legged on the floor, picking fluff off the carpet. His helmet was still on but he’s pulled his balaclava down to his chin. He looked up hearing the door open. 

“Mama.” 

Aurora looked behind her to make sure Cumulus hadn’t followed her. 

“Mama? You want Cumulus? I can go get her she’s just down the hall.” 

Phantom pouts at her, shaking his head, making grabby hands towards her.  “Mama.” 

Aurora shuts the door carefully behind her.  “Me? I’m mama today?” 

Phantom nods, still making grabby hands towards her. She picks him up off the floor easily, she might be small but she’s strong. He wraps his legs around her hips, trying to bury his face into her neck but is stopped by his mask. He lets out a whine, pulling away from her neck with a sad pout on his face. 

Aurora laughs lightly at him, swaying them slightly where she stands.  “Why didn’t you take your mask off when you got off stage, bug?” 

Phantom points to the buckle under his chin.  “Tricky.” 

“Ah, I see. Couldn’t manage it on your own?” She undoes the buckle easily with one hand, pulling his helmet off, throwing it onto the sofa that’s pushed to the side of the room. 

Phantom shakes his head, fluffing his hair up and unglamouring his horns. He buries his head into her neck with a small sigh. 

Aurora sits down on the small sofa, moving Phantom so he’s sat more on her lap, keeping his head buried in her neck. He lets out a contented sigh, nuzzling deeper into her, rubbing his cheek against her shoulder. 

“What’s made you go so little, bug?” She runs her fingers through his hair, rubbing at his horns. “You don’t normally drop this fast.”  Phantom whimpers into her neck, fidgeting a little.  “Changed.” 

Aurora hums in realisation. “Ah, the schedule changed.” 

Phantom nods, rubbing his cheek against her shoulder harder. “I know, it’s hard when things change, huh?” 

Phantom wiggles down a little so his head is resting on her chest. “Don’t like it, mama.”  “Oh I know.” Aurora coos at him. “But you’re being so brave, are you? You didn’t even cry about it.” 

Phantom gives a little chuff. “Wanted to be brave for you, mama.” 

Aurora feels her heart melting out of her chest. “My brave boy, aren’t you?” She presses a kiss to the top of his head. “Hey, there’s one good thing about the show being over early.”

Phantom looks up at her with wide eyes, his pupils blown.“What?”  Aurora squeezes him close to her, pressing another kiss to the top of his head. “It means we can cuddle more.” 

Phantom let’s put a chuff that turns into a purr, snuggling deeper into Aurora's chest, rubbing his cheek against her. 

“Oh, I knew you’d like that.”  Phantom thrills, his ears flicking. “Want all the cuddles please, mama.” 

Aurora rubs a hand down his back, rubbing small circles at the bottom of his back. “You can have all the cuddles you want, baby.”  The two stay cuddled up on the sofa for a long time. So long that they both end up falling asleep, tangled up together on the lumpy backstage sofa. That’s how Cumulus finds them later and she can’t help pulling her phone out to take a picture of the cute sight.

Can you tell us about Valfrey?

Gladly! I used this chance to do a wee reference for her.~

Fourth of the matters most ancient, the sun to the stars, dimensions and nebulas that came before her. Both bringer and taker of lives, She the one who places judgement upon those who pass into her realm known as the Underworld.

Valfrey is a warrior poet with a strong moral code and an unmatched skill in the use of soul magic, a skill so potent she once was worshiped as a god alongside the other three original matterborn.

She may be both elegant and whimsical, compassionate and then suddenly cruel beyond comprehension. Such is the nature of the bringer of life and death. While she is known to speak in prose with a sing-song voice, her pronunciations tend to be... creative.

Wherever she went she was accompanied by her chosen followers, the Shinigami, who would play songs for her in the background for dramatic effect whenever she entered a scene. Occasionally she'll whip out an entire piano herself if it suits the occasion or be accompanied by an entire orchestra.

Valfrey used to have a close relationship with the first Dream Matterborn, Twinkle Popopo, who was infected by Dark Matter at one point and perished. Plagued by grief she was tricked into believing that the first Dark Matterborn, Gatteka and his Demon Tribe were responsible for her death and promptly went to war against all Dark Matter. While she didn't succeed in wiping out all Dark Matter, positively charged Dark Matterborn remain a rare sight to this day due to her actions.

In battle she uses her shapeshifting weapon, the Valkyrie and may summon the souls of powerful warriors she has collected from her wings to fight alongside her. She is also able to shapeshift into the forms of the very same warriors, if required. Valfrey has been known to harass living warriors who suit her liking reminding them that she will claim their souls upon death, with mixed responses.

Her actions eventually lead to a confrontation with a group of Dream Matterborn known as Clan Eon-Eon, who managed to lock her up within her own body by creating a negatively charged hybrid matterborn known as Dark Nebula, using matter from both them, dark matter from an infected clan member and Valfrey's own matter.

Aeons passed until she was freed and after a chaotic turn of events, sealed away again, yet this time trapped within the body of someone else.

Upon being freed once more she began her journey to find a new purpose in life, showing much curiosity towards the little things around her and not a single hint of regret when it comes to her actions of the past.

I’m feeling a lot better today so hopefully these answers will be a whole lot better

2. I’ve actually given this a lot of thought, and kind of have decided on a combination of voices. Aurora Aksnes and Haley Grant from the Harmaleighs, (listen to Don’t panic for reference). In terms of timbre and rhythm, in my head, she sounds like Savannah Brown, (she’s on YouTube and is the love of my entire life).

Then again, Bluebelle doesn’t talk that much unless she is SUPER comfortable with the people around her, probably no one except for Victoria and the gang, and maybe some other ocs, (I like to thing that she and @/mysticalcats’s foxglove chat a lot :))

6. She definitely thinks of herself as a bit of a weakling or a coward, given how she reacted by running away and avoiding the problem. She’s also pretty frustrated with her inability to express feelings, happy or angry.

7. Bluebelle really only likes herself around her friends, where she feels the most present and real. She’s not self loathing exactly, just generally apathetic towards her solitary self.

She’s super proud of her dancing skills though. It’s her favorite thing to do, and she knows that she’s good at it.

She also really likes her hair lol. Fidgeting with her braids never fails to calm her down.

Okay… apologies in advanced for how long this is (like I'm talking about all four) -- Love and Deepspace is an otome game w/ like fighting aspects. So far there are four love interests (with potentially 1-2 more coming). The main story branch so far is focused on the MC becoming a Deepspace Hunter (aka those that fight Wanderers) and her learning about the aether core that's in her heart (and meeting our boys of course).

I'll go in order of release/when I started shipping with them I suppose -- each LI has multiple versions (aka future/past versions who had their own relationship with their incarnation of the MC - basically everyone reincarnates at least once) - I'll also only talk about things I'm like certain of, though, since I need to reread some of the lore/other interpretations of it lol

Zayne in our current timeline is her childhood friend. He became a cardiologist because of the issues she has with her heart (started studying at an early age and has a bunch of awards despite only being 27) and now he's her general physician too. He wields the ice evol - which harms him because of a curse he has on him (I'll discuss this in a moment).

One of his versions is known as Dawnbreaker - he's a version of Zayne that doesn't have an MC of his own (we don't know whether she died or he just never had one to begin with) but basically he kills people that are about to turn into Wanderers. So a killer with a good cause. Zayne and him are linked through their dreams. Zayne's been having nightmares of Dawnbreaker since he was 12 - basically seeing visions of him killing others; while Dawnbreaker gets dreams about Zayne and MC - causing him to yearn for a life he'll never have.

Next is known as the Foreseer. I'm thinking this is a future version of him but it could also be past?? Idk. He lives in a tower atop Mt. Eternal and he's not allowed to leave. Instead, he's trying to grow jasmines in the snowy climate. (In the second half of his myth MC comes across a field of jasmines - all were grown in memory of her? Don't quote me on this I haven't done the second half of it yet). He's the one where Astra's curse is mentioned. Essentially followers of Astra are not allowed to fall in love or there will be consequences (aka the evol problem mentioned above).

Finally of the versions of him we know so far is the Master of Fate. Honestly, I don't know the lore quite perfectly despite playing through the whole myth, but he can read fortunes, so that's cool :3

(Zayne, Foreseer, Master of Fate, Dawnbreaker (at least what he looks like).

Okay, next is Rafayel. He wields the fire evol. In our current timeline, he's a painter - a very famous painter. He also has a bounty on his head for 'taking care of' people who had a hand in hurting other Lumerians. Lumeria was an underwater civilization where he was born. He met MC very young and is upset that she doesn't remember the promise to meet him the next year (it's implied that he kept visiting that spot to meet her but given the experiments on her… she doesn't remember).

One of his versions is the Sea God - I think Lumeria's final god of the sea? Anyway, in that myth, he meets MC, who is supposed to be a sacrifice to him and he takes her as his follower. In the second half of the myth he bonds to her - a bond that makes it impossible to disobey her if she gives him a direct command (which is true of all his incarnations, this bond never leaves). In order to save Lumeria, he's supposed to carve out the heart of his beloved but from what I heard of this myth (I don't have both parts), they ran away to avoid this outcome.

The other is the Abysswalker. It's in the future where MC was found and because of the aether core, she became the princess (of Philos?). Basically, the aether core is super important for Philos's survival so it get mentioned a lot. But he breaks her out of the castle and heads to the desert (which is what the sea has become because they never used her aether core to save Lumeria)… I don't have the second half of this myth but basically they travel together from then on.

(Rafayel, Sea God, Abysswalker).

Xavier in our current timeline (is not a reincarnation but he traveled back in time from the future) is a Deepspace Hunter and MC's neighbor. He wields the light evol. He first met her during her exam to become a Deepspace Hunter, and they keep bumping into each other (we'll probably learn more in his lore branch given that it's next).

His other version was the Prince of Philos in the future - he and MC were training to be Lightseekers and he was training to become King, which never happened. Instead, he ended up traveling back to before the current era (in one of his trailers, it says that he's been there for 200 something years and that it's supposedly his last one - I guess before he moves on? Idk) and MC became Queen of Philos.

His other myth card is basically about his alter ego - Lumiere (basically a superhero who is known for singlehandedly defeating super dangerous Wanderers) but I don't have either card - I still need to watch it so that's where I'll leave this.

For Sylus… we're still waiting for his second myth set (his first one is set in the current era). Currently, he is the head of Onychinus - a criminal organization in the dealing of weapons and Protocores (aka I assume the power source of Wanderers - it's what they drop when defeated). He lives in the N109 Zone which is basically a dangerous city that used to be the tech center of Linkon City, but ever since a catastrophe 14 years before the beginning of the game - it's been a no man's land.

For him, we really don't know much about his past yet. Some fans speculate that he's from the future like Xavier, given that we do know he's the criminal with the highest bounty in Philos's history (and given that Philos is the future version of Earth - it's the same planet if I know the lore right). But in his Grassland Romance card, he said that in his past he took the role of a 'monster more dangerous than a Wanderer' which leads us to imply that he's either a Wanderer himself or a demon or something along those lines (or a dragon - that'd be cool too). Anyways, I can't say much for him.

His evol is known as energy manipulation. He also has an aether core in his eye that allows him to control other people and see what they most desire (aka when his right eye goes all glowy).

Lastly, I'll touch on MC a little. She was experimented on when she was younger. Pretty sure they killed her multiple times to test her ability to be reborn (which is why she doesn't remember things from before those experiments). It's heavily implied that EVER (a large important organization in Linkon) is the one behind those experiments. Her Grandma was also a part of that, which she took MC in when she was young (following the experiments - I guess to keep an eye on her health) and raised her alongside Caleb (heh and my s/i). MC's evol is resonance - which allows her to resonate with others (form stronger attacks or maybe even feel what they're feeling while she's resonating with them? We really don't know much about it yet).
