I'm glad that my words (as well as everyone else's) are helping to ease your worries ;;v;; Everyone starts somewhere when it comes to writing, and seeing you working through it? I thought you could use a little encouragement and reassurance. UvU

When I first started my blog, I always thought that every ask I answered had to be lengthy and grand to the point I ended up scaring myself out of answering some due to feeling I didn't have enough of an idea on how to write a good response, which led to feeling guilty for letting asks go so long without being answered.

But just like everything else, I learned how to take a step back and accept that some answers can be short and simple, yet still entertaining enough to answer the questions or request! That it's okay to need a little extra time to mull over your answers in case a better way to write what you want comes along. It's more a matter of learning to be kind and not put so much pressure on yourself.

I know you're going through school and trying to keep up with the asks on your blog, and that can be tough! But I know you can do it, and I know you'll find that right balance too 💝

They left me no choice.

The animation industry is an absolute trash fire right now, and TBH... I don't think it's going to recover. Not in a form I recognize, anyway.

I could go on all day about the self-hating monster that is the Animation Business, but I've said it all before. Right now, none of the major studios are making much of anything, and almost all of what they are making is "library content". I'm currently doing storyboard revisions alongside a number of other former producers and directors, and I'm lucky to have the work. Once all of the mismanagement and the mergers get sorted, though, there should be plenty of room for more mismanagement and mergers. And the A.I. Don't forget the A.I.

It seems that I either give myself over fully to the souring corporate teat in the hopes that I can pretend that I still live in a world where "the grind" matters. Or I take a risk and make one big push to do... something.

First up:

Billy & Mandy vs. The Entertainment Industry:

This is my interview/reality/documentary show on the making of The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy from stem to stern. I'll be talking to as many people as I can who worked on the show about all sorts of different parts of the process. We'll definitely get to voice actors, but the first segment is probably going to be about Billy & Mandy's pre-history and the Big Pick Weekend.

The Upward Expedition:

This is my pick for my indie show. I have a bible. I have a decade of ideas. Time to sit down and tell a story. I want to get some screen sharing going at some point. I'll definitely share artwork as well as the trials and tribulations of getting from There to Back Again.

I'd love to get a Discord server going and provide a place where people can talk about the stuff I'm making (and the entertainment industry in general). I still have enough Billy & Mandy swag left that I'm sure I'll factor that stuff in as well.

In the immediate future, the funding goes to securing a space to do the interviews and probably to banking money for voice actors. I'm still deciding on my update schedule, but it should start in earnest next week.

I'm excited. Pretty scared... but also excited.

A big thank you goes out to @cozymochi for this beautiful celebratory commissioned artwork for this major milestone ✨ It really captures the scope of all the content that had been put out in the last 4+ years—both in terms of official Twst materials and on this blog! I think it’s very fitting that we hit this milestone in the month of Halloween too (I just held off on posting this til the month after); it’s Twst’s biggest holiday of the year, so it’s twice the cause for celebration!!

A lot has happened over the course of my time in this fandom. I’ve written many things of course, but I’ve also had many other exciting opportunities! I’ve been interviewed for a paper, met many cool people from all over the world, attended Twst meetups + events, collaborated with other talented creators, received kind gifts, contributed to various fandom projects, and finished telling the origins of my Twst OC. This blog has been with me through a lot of major changes and difficult hurdles in my life too—it’s really been an anchor for me, a comforting and safe space for me to be creative or analytical whenever I want to be.

When I first started this blog as a very casual hobby in summer of 2020, I never even considered that it would balloon to this extent. It still doesn’t feel totally real to me 😭 I don’t usually fixate on numbers (they make me anxious), but looking back on it, 10k is a LOT, and 4 years is a long time. To put that in perspective, if we were in Twisted Wonderland for 4 years then all of the students we’ve come to know and love would have graduated by now. That’s crazy to me. We’ve come so far as a group.

I feel that a large part of fandom is the community that comes with it. I would have found it so challenging to stick with Twst had I not had so many great people keeping me engaged with it. I’d now like to take a moment to thank those folks. Keeping in line with the idea of “4 years”, think of these as little messages scrawled in a yearbook. I also have a blog event planned to celebrate! More on that later.

Please note that I’ve used pseudonyms for most of the following people, as I’d like to respect their privacy (I’m very private myself) + not all of them are comfortable with being explicitly named or tagged to a large crowd. You’ll know who you are if you see yourself on here.

here are some preliminary sketches I had done in my sketchbook for the peepaw chilchuck comic.

I wanted to follow it up with some worldbuilding thoughts I had while working on it, if that sort of thing is interesting to anyone:

- it’d take place 5ish years post-canon

- I changed almost everyone’s hair to show time had passed. Chilchuck and Kabru were the most drastic (I COULDNT STOP THINKING ABOUT THAT LONG HAIR KABRU THAT KUI DREW), Marcille grew out her bangs, Senshi’s beard is slightly shorter, and Izutsumi’s hair is mildly longer. Laios and Falin give me the impression that they’re the brand of neurodivergent that’d pick one haircut and stick to it for the rest of their lives. I almost gave Laios facial hair but idk he’s gotten over his daddy issue enough for that.

- Emertim Chils: I tried to follow both the half-foot and dwarven naming conventions for the baby, so Emer- comes from “emerald” (dwarven names are often gemstones or ore) and -tim because Chilchuck’s father’s first name was Tim :) Dwarves don’t have family names, so Emertim would take Chils, same as Flertom. Usually they’re named after their father but I didn’t wanna name a random dwarf man. thank you Chel for helping name him 🫶💕

- Initially the idea that Chilchuck would keep an entire grandchild a secret was just a joke, but it made sense when I thought about it. I wonder,, would dwarf/half-foot couples have trouble conceiving? Because if so, I’d imagine Flertom may have lost a couple pregnancies. Chilchuck is already such a private person, and I don’t think he’d feel comfortable airing his daughter’s grief like that. They wouldn’t wanna tell anyone until they were sure this baby was gonna make it.

- For the above reason, Chilchuck would absolutely spoil this kid. Not that he wouldn’t have spoiled his grandkids anyway, but I think after all that stress, he’d be extra extra doting. He’d be letting him do things he’d never DREAM of letting his own daughters do. Completely different parenting style.

- I think he’s still too prideful to take advantage of Laios being King (sidenote: is Laios even wealthy??? does a kingdom that sprung up from a previously-sunken continent even have money?? what the fuck is their economy), but like,,, if Laios offered any gifts he wouldn’t exactly say no.

- Izutsumi surprisingly really likes the baby :3 she’d like to take naps with him and he’d like her purrs and she’d have a lot of fun playing with him.

- SENSHI. meemaw mode. That kid would grow up not realizing Senshi isn’t technically one of his grandads. He is FEEEEEDING this kid.

- LAIOS DOES GET TO HOLD THE BABY!!!!!! just. eventually. They don’t actually expect a Tarrare situation LMAO they just wait until the kid is a little less fragile and a little more mobile. I think Laios would be really good with toddlers.

- Chilchuck is very thankful Emertim’s half-foot genes kick in sooner than later because he was getting too big for him to carry.

- Emertim would probably get the extended lifespan. He and Marcille would get to stay friends for a very very long time :’)

- my personal headcanon is that Chilchuck and his wife decide to split. He still loves her and it’s probably still a bit mutual, but after four years of almost no-contact, they decide their communication issues aren’t working well for their relationship. Plus, the Adventurer’s Bible says Chilchuck is renting their old house out to family, and he’d feel bad kicking them out so he and wife could move back in. They’d still be on good terms, and would be good at coordinating when to babysit.

"This is how we stay safe," your mother tugs the laces so your lurch. 

Your eyes widen at your reflection. The gown is tight yet too big. The bodice pinches as your mother yanks and yanks. The skirt is full and fluffy. Layers and layers of tulle.  

You can't breathe but you don't think its the boning. You touch the front of the gown, feeling the delicate embroidery, and shudder as you exhale. Strange how days before you wore black and cried, now you're in white in what many deem the happiest day if your life. 

"Hasn't he taken enough--" 

"Shh!" She whips her finger up. "He can always take more. Your father didn't think so but he can, god rest. There's always something to lose." 

"Mom," you croak. You've never seen her afraid. She's always been pompous, always unfazed, but now her eyes are like sparklers, flickering and frantic. "I'm scared." 

"Be scared but be obedient. And smile," she moves around you and frames your face, "smile. Please. He can always change his mind. Don't let him. If he does, we are lost." 

"How do you know? Daddy's gone. We can leave--" 

"The vultures are waiting," she snarls. "Don't you understand? It's only the wolf that keeps them at bay." 

"Why... why would he want me? If daddy--" 

"Hush, I won't tell you again. Do not speak of your father. Especially in front of him." She dabs your lip with her thumb as she fixes your make up, "from this day forth, he is the only man in your life. Understand?" 

You pout. That night comes back. The echoing bang the woke you, your mother's scream, and the barrels that pointed through your doorway. Quick, clean, horrifying. As if your father never was. 

"Yes." 

"You better. You know this man is cruel. Do you want to test him?" 

You shake your head and she lets you go. You back away and heave. You won't mess up the hours of work put into your hair and face. If you look in the mirror again, you will. 

You stare at your skirts as your mother pins the veil on your head. She pulls on it, arranging it around you. It drapes almost to your feet. 

A knock at the door. She goes to it. Whispers. The door stays open. Your mother calls your name. Your soles stick before you can make yourself move. 

As you get to her, your mother takes you by your wrist. You feel her warmth through the lacy gloves. She guides you behind a party of women. Some you recognise, some you don't. Their makeup is thickly caked on and their hair teased. 

"Look up," your mother snaps under her breath and lets you go. "You will not shame your family by hiding." 

You raise your head. Your head is light and bobbly. You march down the hallway behind the train of solemn women. 

You’ve never met the man who killed your father. The very same you are about to face. The one you are to marry. It’s the sort of irony that hurts. 

You’re stopped as the other women keep going. They leave you, one by one, until it is only your mother. She gives your hand a final squeeze and goes. You wait alone, uncertain. 

The music changes and you flinch. You know you have to go but you don’t want to. You don’t want to die either. And you don’t want to lose your mom. She’s all you have left. 

You can picture the house. Ransacked, bullet-riddled, crowded with strange men. You push away the memories and step forward. One foot in front of the other. Keep going. That’s what this life will be. Do what has to be done, not what you want. 

You enter the large hall. Peaked ceilings, music echoing off the walls, full pews, and a man waiting. You look ahead to the figure at the altar. Two, but the shorter one fades into the background. The priest is a blue as your eyes fixate on the man in the white suit. 

As you get closer, his features come into focus. Dark curls, a shadow of a beard and a thick line of hair over his lip. The cleft in his chin adds to the chisel of his jaw and he’s tall. Very tall and broad. His blue eyes meet yours. 

You trip as you try to step up beside him. He’s quick to catch you. His grip is iron on your arm. He helps you up and stands you across from his. Your eyes cling to him. You can’t look away. You’re terrified. He can’t look away from you either. 

You stand facing each other; you trapped him shock, him in triumph. This day is the first day of the rest of your life. The end of the empire and the birth of another. A vow to seal your fate and those of all watching.

Pills That Make You Hecking Green And Valid! :D

[ID 1: A horrific imitation of pills that make you green comics with disturbingly smooth stick people with faces, of all things.

Panel 1: A grayscale stick person who would be just as valid as they are is talking to a doctor, saying: "Doctor! I wanna be hecking green!"

The doctor, with a huge smile on their face, responds: "That is so hecking valid! Here you go, take 1 mg of green pills a week!"

"Yay!"

Panel 2: The happy green person is talking to a big meanie, who is frowning.

Green: "I love being hecking green and valid!"

Meanie: "You are neither hecking, green nor valid!"

Green: "That is mean!"

Meanie, now reformed: "Oh no I'm sorry, my mind has been changed, you are valid!"

Panel 3: The green person is sad, because a lime green person and a moss green person are arguing!

Lime: "Grr! Pointless argument!"

Moss: "Grr!!"

Green: "Noo! Don't you see that all infighting is always pointless and silly? You are both valid!"

Lime: "Good point! The two of us will now make out sloppy style. Goodbye!"

Panel 2: Two green people are talking! The first one says: "I work in HR at the Heck Portal deciding which employees to unalive!" (Note: "heck" and "unalive" are censored.)

The other green person responds: "That is so valid! I am so happy they're inclusive at the heck portal!"

Panel 3: A tall purple person is talking to the green person!

Purple: "I'm interchromatic!"

Green: "Wow! That is such a valid label! Can I use it too?"

Purple: "Of course you can! Everyone can use every label always!"

Character A following closely behind Character B to social events and parties, and Character B introducing Character A to everyone else with a grin on their face like a proud partner. 

“Wanna hold hands?” “Uh… Sure, I guess?” 

Character B being the one to initiate PDA with Character A, knowing Character A likes PDA but is too shy to be the one to initiate it. 

“Tell me if I’m making you uncomfortable, okay?” “You’re not… You’re not making me uncomfortable, please don’t worry. I love you for checking in on me.”

“I don’t think I’ve ever said this, but thank you for getting me out of my shell.” 

Character A slowly warming up to the idea of joining Character B for parties and everything. 

“Don’t worry. I won’t leave your side if you don’t want me to. Stick with me if you need to, okay?” 

Character B talking to literally everyone at the parties they attend, with Character A holding onto their sleeve and hiding behind them. 

“This is [Character A’s name] and they really are so amazing!” 

Character B showing off Character A to everyone and anyone who would listen, and being really proud of the fact that Character A is their partner, which warms Character A a lot. 

“Them? They’re the love of my life.” 

Character B making sure Character A isn’t feeling too overwhelmed and offering to go home with them the moment Character A tells them they don’t want to be there anymore.

Summary: A day out with Jessie and Niamh

"Jessie! Jessie! Niamh!" You call out, practically skipping down the front steps of the house, wiggling out from under Pernille's arm to crash into two of your favourite people.

"Careful, princesse!" Pernille yells after you but you ignore her.

Niamh laughs as she catches you, lifting you easily up onto her hip as Jessie gives the run down of what you're doing today to Pernille.

You get a bit impatient though because you already know where you're going and what you're doing so Niamh puts you into the car.

"What are you looking forward to today?"

"Tiger!" You say," Rawr!"

"I think the tigers are a great idea," Niamh says, throwing the car in reverse just as Jessie slides in and does up her belt.

"Jessie!" You say," Tigers go rawr!"

There's not a lot of time spent in the car because Niamh pulls up to the zoo fairly quickly and Jessie helps you out of your seat, holding your hand like she's Momma when she doesn't want you running off in the car park.

You're a bit impatient though and pull a little but Jessie doesn't mind as she gets you through security.

"I think tigers last," She says," So they're the last thing we see."

You grumble a little because Jessie is like Momma sometimes, making you wait for the best thing until the end.

"Oh, come on, Jess!" Niamh complains," I wanted to see the tigers!"

Niamh's a bit like Morsa, you think. All tall and funny and constantly getting on Momma's nerves in the best way possible.

"Later," Jessie says," Let's go look at the bug house first and we'll work our way up to the tigers."

"Are we getting lunch?" You ask as you watch one of the zookeepers feed a tarantula," Or did Momma pack me something?"

"Are you hungry?"

You shrug. "Little bit."

Jessie rummages through the backpack Momma gave her, pulling out your favourite goldfish crackers to munch on as you wander around the zoo.

Eventually, your feet start hurting so you get Niamh to pick you up and walk you around as you look at the big animals like elephants and giraffes.

You do stop for lunch though even though Jessie says it's stupidly overpriced and very bad for you.

There's not a lot of pasta on the menu, which is your favourite and all the sandwich options have icky stuff like mayo instead of butter and bread with seeds instead of just plain so you settle on some mac and cheese and a little pot of fries.

Niamh steals a few of them so you puff out your cheeks in outrage but ultimately keep eating. You slap her prying fingers away when she tries to grab more and Jessie giggles.

You stick your tongue out at Niamh for a moment before pushing your little portion of fries towards Jessie.

"Do you want some?" You ask her and Niamh's jaw drops in shock.

Jessie winks at Niamh. "You know what? I would like some. Thank you."

"You can have as many as you want!"

"What?" Niamh demands," What about me?!"

You give her a disappointed look like Morsa does when Momma puts broccoli in the oven and calls it cooking. "Maybe if you didn't steal some earlier, I would let you have some now. Stealing is bad Niamh."

"Yeah, Niamh," Jessie snickers," Stealing is bad."

Niamh doesn't steal any more of your fries so you finish your mac and cheese and share the rest of your fries with Jessie just to prove a point.

"Tigers now?" You ask after Niamh brings you back from the toilets.

"I don't know..." Jessie pretends to think, tapping her finger against her chin," Aren't there more animals to see first?"

"Jessie, please!" You grab her hand and try to pull her up," Time to see the tigers."

"Alright," She says eventually, right when Niamh swings you up for a piggyback ride," Let's go see the tigers."

You've been out a long while, hours since you left the house and in that time, Magda and Pernille have done a deep clean. They've washed the floors, cleaned up the shower, changed all the bedsheets and done three rounds of laundry.

It's a little empty in the house without you and Magda feels herself just kind of drifting around, anxiously looking out through the windows for Niamh's car.

"Waiting around won't make them come back quicker. They're getting dinner right now."

"Dinner? I thought we were feeding her tonight!"

"I'm sure she'll be hungry when she comes in," Pernille shrugs, flipping aimlessly through the tv channels," But hopefully, they've worn her out enough that she'll just want to go straight to bed without a bath. I mean-"

The doorbell rings and Magda doesn't stick around long enough to hear the end of Pernille's sentence.

"Morsa!" You say as Magda throws up the door.

She stares down at you in shock.

"Got my face painted like a tiger! Rawr!"

You're definitely going to need a bath tonight.
