When the princess repeated what he’s been trying to say to him, the mechanic nodded eagerly, eyes twinkling in delight at being understood. It was honestly a little hard for him to explain why he likes cars without it sounding a little, well, weird, since his obsession with them got to an emotional point. Usually, he’d shamelessly ramble on about it at any given opportunity, but… once again, he was hyper-aware of who he was talking to right now.

“A car race?” Was he really being given a chance to talk about this? He had so much to say. Everything about this conversation felt surreal. “N-no, but I have watched some on televisions in sports bars!! They’re AWESOME!! And so satisfying to watch… even if the mechanics are too slow sometimes,” he muttered, having a lot of opinions on that. Shaking his head, he decided now was not to rant about it. “T… THE Monaco Grand Prix?? A-and… a few times?? Woah…” It was hard not to feel a little jealous about that. That was basically one of his life dreams. Car race tickets in general were a little too expensive to be taken out of his budget, and it’s not like he’d gotten a special invite or something. Maybe… maybe that would change, after attending Hope’s Peak. Their repair shop wasn’t exactly popular with anyone above the working class, after all. He had no idea how Hope’s Peak managed to find him.

Either way, the princess’ subtle change of tone caught his attention. He wasn’t sure what it was, but something about how she said ‘that seems like how it should be’ felt off. Like it was almost… wistful. Was it because she was a princess? Did she… not want to be the ultimate princess?

…He really didn’t know anything about her, huh?

Deep in thought, he hadn’t even realized the arrived at the school, nor did he notice the surprised looks thrown their way. “I… I love trains!” He exclaimed, overjoyed to hear it was something she was also found of. “All types of trains! N-not, uhm, riding them, though.” Motion sickness came easily to him, after all — which is exactly why he paled at the princess’ answer, and then paled some more at the mention of haunted houses.

How come… it was his two LEAST favorite to go???

“O-oh,” was all he could say, laughing weakly. “That’s… um, d-doesn’t it scare you Mi… er, S-Sonia-san? I-I mean, roller coasters are really fast… and haunted houses can be like, p-pretty scary…” he tried to reason, desperately trying to find something else she might be more interested to go to. Halloween theme amusement parks… with very ‘tall’ and very ‘fast’ roller coasters… it felt like she was describing a nightmare to him. “Don’t you, um, get scared that you might… f-fall off, or something?”

It just keeps repeating in his head, how different they both were. Polar opposites. No matter how much he struggles to find common ground, they were just… too different, to have much in common. It was admittedly devastating him, even fully knowing he brought it on himself by clinging to delusions. It was just… there was a confusing mix of emotions in his chest right now, which was really bad, since he sucked at dealing with his emotions.

All he knew right now is, if the princess really wanted to go to a scary ass amusement park, he’ll go. Terrified or not.

Her question performed as it was intended: all traces of Kazuichi's self-apprehension seemed to have dissipated after they'd left the café. It was either the distraction or the pleasant weather, and Sonia wasn't about to question either if it kept him from both panicking and from fawning over her. Both were, in their own ways, equally disastrous. "So you grew up with a wrench in your hands then," Sonia confirmed with a small smile, waiting until the light changed before beginning to cross the street. She wasn't an expert, but she felt fairly certain that all cars made the sounds Kazuichi described. Perhaps it was like trying to choose a favorite book or horror antagonist: some things just couldn't be selected out of so many wonderful options and he simply loved all cars equally. "And you like understanding how all of the parts come together to make a moving vehicle, is that correct?"

That part, Sonia couldn't really understand. But the driving of cars...or rather, watching others drive (she had to remember she was in a foreign country. Even if being heir to the Novoselic throne made needing a driver's license redundant at home, Japan would not be so lenient with her tendency to take a car for a spin around the grounds of various royal properties). That, at least, she could relate to: she had seen, and done, her fair share. "Soda-san, have you ever attended a car race?" She asked eagerly, their conversation prompting her to ignore the siren song of the bookstore closest to Hope's Peak's campus. Alongside cafes and konbinis, she spent much of her free time there. For someone who always had an assistant to order whatever she needed, Sonia was spoiled for choice with novels, manga, and various blu-rays of films and shows she wanted to add to her print media collection, and she could hand over her own money in person to acquire them. "With the formal track, and spectator stands, and professional drivers and the various organizations that sponsor them? They are great fun! I have attended the Monaco Grand Prix a few times, but never a race in Japan."

The Formula One circuit was one of many, Sonia had learned, but she suspected Japan would have something similar. And if Kazuichi's family was a prestigious one in the world of automobile repair, then it was likely their expertise might be sought for racing cars. Still, her smile faltered when he brought up that connection. It reminded her, for better or worse, that she was different than many of her friends. They chose their talents and passions, grew into them, evolved with them and truly shaped them as their own identity. Sonia had been given no choice in the matter of her talent, or future for that matter, the moment she was born: she was a princess who would become queen one day, and she would spend her entire life devoted to that singular cause until the day she died. For the most part she flourished, her heart and mind open to love and learn, preserving tradition and taking steps into a prosperous future. But there were times when she wished for something else, something more, something she herself had chosen all on her own to be passionate about and share it with the world. Sure, she adored her horror movies and the occult and true crime stories involving various serial killers and cult leaders, but that wasn't something like cars. Everyone, despite understanding them or not, could accept cars: her personal interests made others, for the most part, uncomfortable at best and downright worried for her future at worst (her mother leading the charge of that group, of course).

"Y-yes," She piped up as they passed a supermarket. Another fascinating place, though one she was discouraged to visit alone. When unchaperoned, Sonia tended to buy a mish-mash of items that could hardly make up a meal even if they were prepared with skill and expertise, neither of which she possessed when it came to culinary pursuits. "That seems like how it should be: that talent comes from following a passion, a choice one has made to pursue for the rest of their lives." Something she couldn't relate to, but now that she'd said it, realized she adored seeing in so many of her classmates, Kazuichi included.

That included the unexpected: Sonia had, perhaps foolishly, assumed Kazuichi's interests began and ended with the following things: cars, giant mechanical devices that on some occasions seemed to move on their own, and herself, though not necessarily in that order. "You like trains as well?" She asked, eyebrows raised as they approached Hope's Peak Academy's front gates, and the guard who also raised his eyebrows at the two. Though in his case, it was because the pairing walking together and having civil conversation seemed less than unlikely, it was truly a hell frozen over situation. Kazuichi idolized her and on more than one occasion, Sonia had clearly proclaimed that he was her stalker and she did not care for his attention. "I am a bit more familiar with those! Riding them, anyway: my family is given use of the Royal train carriages at home, which is often how we travel around Western Europe when needed. It is not as cool as public trains I suppose, especially Japanese bullet trains, but I am fond of it nevertheless."

Many of the carriages had only been renovated as much as needed for modern luxuries, leaving the overall design an homage to the elegant train eras of the 19th and early 20th Centuries. A trip to the past, which her life seemed to constantly be unless she challenged the Royal social norms. The same norms that, when considering a field trip, Sonia could only suggest what she'd been deprived of as the Princess of Novoselic.

"Oh, well, that is an easy choice," She beamed, her cheeks turning lightly pink. "Though my idea of a 'field trip' is nothing terribly refined. You see, we do not have amusement parks in Novoselic, and I would very much like to visit one. One with very tall and very fast roller coasters! And haunted houses! I have read that some amusement parks even put on a temporary theme during the fall for Halloween, with even more spooky and scary entertainment! I should like to see that and ride all of the 'thrills,' indeed!"

uuuuh okay thoughts about S2E1 (disclaimer: SPOILERS! and some unpopular opinions bc i WILL be criticizing alicent). most of these i had during my watch yesterday, and now i’m elaborating on them after more thinking about it. looooong post ahead

okay i liked the new intro. i will miss the blood pouring but i think the tapestries are a more visual way to convey targaryen history.

my favorite parts were the shot of vhagar and balerion in the field of fire(? idk they were eating men (green dragon black dragon !!!), the jaehaerys and alysanne portrait, alicent and rhaenyra and aegon and rhaenyra crowned side by side. beautiful.

also, the blood beneath the thread !!! targaryen history is written in blood. never forget this.

i dont particularly like jace being at the wall. it makes little sense to me, especially because the north is massive and i don’t think that cregan would like to make a procession to the wall just because a prince is there. i liked the tidbits though: jon going to the watch is a tradition he followed unknowingly :)

also, this is TYLAND LANNISTER, the most employed guy ever. he literally put his skin on the fire for his team, he’s loyal and he’s the best ally the greens could’ve asked for. if anyone is to thank for the death of the dragons, it’s him. put some respect on his name because this is the finance bro to end all finance bros.

also he’s always saying important things: the treasure in the green council, jason’s moves here. please listen to him!

another thing i dislike is the way important political moves are being brushed off. the treasure is a big big matter. it should be said explicitly what the council is doing about it being the focus of the scene. i’m sure most casual viewers didn’t catch that the comedic relief is making big money moves that will backfire later.

one thing i appreciate is that aegon has his own court. he has his lads-in-waiting, he has a few ladies following behind, and that’s how a king should be. we always saw the royal kids isolated (joff, tommen, rhaenyra only had alicent) when in reality most important people will have a flock of people accompanying them every day.

At some point I think teams and the FIA do need to have some type of conversation about the way young talent is developed for f1 because the current model just isn't sustainable . U look at the biggest driver programs from the big three, Williams and Alpine, and they don't produce talent, they produce place holders. Like by the time these kids even begin to be considered they're are not treated as future stars, its actually the opposite, like we're not even supposed to know they exist. When silly season hits even the ole reliable rbr meat grinder is now hesitating to put its young talent to the test. Yuki whos been in a permanent state of development for like 3 years and will prolly c the height of his career in a opposing team. He is a successful story for the academy but hes not treated like that.

The way some people choose to dismiss all this is that maybe the new crop just 'isnt as talented' or its 'not their time yet' but I argue that its their time to be in F1 if a team decides it is. U have Oscar who came in seemingly at the perfect time because Nando Alonso is an old bitch and thank God, -- showing more and more promise every gp, Ollie who did a great job and scored points his first race because Carlos insides physically exploded, Lawson subbed for Danny ric once and kicked Max out of q2 like ik rbr was going thru it but like still really dope.

Wid all the technology the new gen has access to, the increasingly realistic simulators, better cars, improving track conditions, u have a talent pool that's bursting out the seams and u shud be proud of it. But instead u have Torger ushering the one singular Kimi in and out of private tests like God forbid we know what the child can do, and fuck everybody else who cares if we already have the new Verstappen. Like u cannot build ur development program to push out One Really Good Teenager every like 5 years ((being nice)) because like that's not sustainable and it create disparities that will be obvious and take credibility out of the competition. The grid rn is awesome, I wud say, and loudly, one of the most dynamic group of baddies, but its also hanging on by a thread. Bet on your talent, nourish it, give it a chance to grow and make mistakes. I think its so important what Max said about making mistakes in F1 especially right out the gate u have to come in guns blazing fr but these teams are so scared of the cost cap in an already ((disturbingly)) elitist and exclusionary environment like ... its frustrating. An Aside: solely human Cursed Biology fact. I can tickle myself. Humans are not supposed to be able to do that. Brains remain a mystery to the world so I can't give more than the current basic theory, but in my case, I Can Tickle Myself Because I'm Schizophrenic. Schizophrenia often presents with the brain's inability to differentiate between internal and external stimuli. You can't tickle yourself because your brain recognizes your body's touch. I can because my brain, in this tiny instance, can't recognize my hand as my hand. "External" touch = tickling. Very cool and very annoying when my foot itches.

Who's your favourite ACOTAR character?

It’s definitely a tie between Lucien and Nesta! I’ve been a ride or die for Lucien since the first book, because I love me a charismatic red head, but I tend to be more vocal about my love for Nes.

Who's your least favourite character?

Oof, it would have to be Amren. I just don’t think she really adds anything to the story beyond existing to be snarky and drop lore when SJM writes herself into a corner. Definitely a character that would have had more impact if she would have stayed dead.

Say something nice about your least favourite character.

Her concept is very interesting! A creature that is not a faerie who was forced to inhabit the body of one. Who had greater abilities than anyone could dream, her only connection to the creature she was, only to lose them all at the cost of her living. Psychologically that is so cool, I would love to read more about what it meant for her mental state in the aftermath.

Who's your favourite High Lord? (If you picked one for your fav character, then who's your second fav!)

Tarquin! When he was introduced, he just instantly stole the show for me. I loved how gentle he was with Feyre, his kindness and confidence in his goals to unite lesser and high fae, and how passionate he got when confronting the Night Court.

Favourite MINOR character?

Remember the mortal that Feyre, Elain, Azriel, and Tamlin saved? Briar? Yeah, her. I’m obsessed with her story. A woman who was essentially groomed into praising the fae, learning first hand how awful they could be, and then going off to live with them in her lowest? I need more of her. I want to see how she develops. I hope she’s got a story in the future, because some main players don’t even have a name but she does! I also fuck with Jurian but I don't think he's really a minor character.

Favourite ship? (Crackships included!)

Oh there’s just so many, I can’t keep up. I think my top three, however, would be Azris, Neris, and a secret third crackship that I cooked up, Eris x Azriel x Gwyn. I call them Azrisyn in my head. I’m working on a fic. It’s a whole thing. I think I just really like shipping people with Eris.

Favourite court and why?

Spring! I love the aesthetic and how deeply magical everything was. It truly was like entering a new realm, with a new creature and magical adventure at every turn. I'm also a Winter and Autumn enjoyer.

Because of the sheer size, this Court is divided into four sections, with each of these sections being overseen by a Stewart, who report directly to a (gasp) High Lady. They're called the High Council. Now I want to write this.

What relationship would you have wanted to see more of in the books?

Emerie and Azriel. Azriel has such an intense loathing for his people that it greatly effects his own view of himself. I want his arc to include him learning more about his culture, and overcoming that internalized bigotry. I want him to look into the face of someone who has been just as brutalized by the Illyrians as he has and realize that they are a people who need help out of the cycle of violence.

What's your unpopular opinion?

All of them, but my most unpopular one is probably that Cassian's wings should have stayed shredded. It made no sense for them to heal, and it would have added more to the story and his character (ie having a bridge to Nesta) to have him stay disabled.

What's your favourite headcanon/fan canon?

I love thinking about the faeries being more magical! I have a whole thread of eldritch horror-style High Lords and I think about it often. A less intense headcanon I have is that Eris has a gap in his front teeth and Gwyn has glowing freckles because I think its cute.

If you were swept away to Prythian, what's ONE thing you would want to do?

I’m shooting my shot with Lucien, so write that down. I also want to do the Winter Solstice in the Winter Court, because I feel like that would be so much fun. And then I’m moving to Dawn because I do not think I am surviving literally anywhere else. If the climates didn't kill me, the politics would.

If you could have ONE faerie ability seen in the books, which would it be?

If Helion's spell casting and cleaving don't count as one ability, then probably shapeshifting.
