Introducing “Tales of Gratitude” – A Year-Long Journey of Stories by Theme Shaina Tranquilino November 1, 2024

Welcome to a fresh chapter in storytelling! As November unfolds and the holiday season approaches, I’m excited to introduce the theme of “Tales of Gratitude” for this month’s series on my short stories blog. Over the next year, I’ll be weaving narratives around a unique theme each month, immersing you in worlds that explore the nuances and flavours of each concept. With twelve months and twelve themes, each month will open up a new lens for reflecting on human experience, connection, and wonder. Whether it’s exploring kindness, mystery, or adventure, each story will invite you to delve into a fresh aspect of life.

November’s Theme: Tales of Gratitude

Gratitude. It’s one of the simplest yet most powerful feelings, and November feels like the perfect time to honour it. With the autumn leaves falling, warm gatherings around tables, and a season of thankfulness in full swing, it’s a wonderful moment to pause, reflect, and appreciate the meaningful things in life.

In this series of “Tales of Gratitude,” I’ll explore different expressions of gratitude through characters who find it in unexpected places. You might meet an old man who uncovers gratitude in a friendship he’d almost forgotten, a young woman who learns to see the beauty in her imperfections, or a family who bonds through loss and love. Each story will capture a unique perspective on gratitude—how it enriches lives, changes perspectives, and deepens connections.

Why This Year-Long Journey?

Storytelling allows us to tap into diverse experiences, and exploring one theme at a time lets us dive deep, seeing how it plays out in different lives and settings. The idea of dedicating a month to each theme emerged from a desire to give each concept the space and attention it deserves. Just like in life, each theme will unfold slowly, each month delivering new dimensions and nuances.

Many of us are blessed with physical sanctuaries where we can pray to and worship God, like churches and more personal places like a prayer room or a special quiet spot. But as our Way-maker, God’s gates are not confined to the physical realm; they are open any time and anywhere the Spirit moves in your life. I bet quite a few of us can think of some unlikely places where God has opened the gates of his presence in our journey. Isn’t it wonderful to have a supernatural helper that can breach every boundary of the physical realm with his goodness and love? As our Redeemer, God has also opened the eternal gates to a perfect sanctuary in heaven. I am grateful for:

My life, the opportunities I have, and the challenges I face.

My husband who keeps me laughing, showers me with hugs, love and support.

My furbabies for their silliness, reminder that there are really only three important things in life; Unconditional Love, Cozy warm spots to nuzzle into, and Play. (Food fits into all those categories with kitties)

⛰💆🏻💋Collecting stones and making memories. Last weekend I went on a meditative/yoga/pilates/crossfit retreat to the mountains just outside of Istanbul. While descending on 4.5 hour hike down the mountain I collected rocks along the way. I painted our group on those rocks so I would never forget what an amazing time we had altogether off the grid. ⠀ Now I'm back to reality; animating and crying over the new OS update that won't download on my old devices. Now my desktop runs like a slug. Our first virtual Thanksgiving! And just maybe our last 🙃 A nice spread with cornish hens, garlic mashed potatoes, brioche-based stuffing, Brussels sprouts simmered in cream, cranberry sauce, and a nice homemade loaf of bread. And, thankfully, it’s also beaujoulais nouveau season. Polished it off with my first attempt at a pecan pie. It was a struggle, but all worked out in the end. Just like the year 2020, the Rockefeller tree is full of holes. Missing pieces of our year and our lives..... Holes where family & holidays should be Holes where friends & parties should be Holes where vacation & travel should be Holes where concerts & live music should be Holes where proms & graduations should be Holes where football & baseball games should be Holes where our jobs & income should be Holes caused by stress & worries our children should not have yet The largest holes are where loved ones we've lost should be And just like our 2020 & our lives Pieces from somewhere, someone & something else will be used to fill that tree to make those holes whole again. Just like we filled holes with.... #GiftedByIPSY  2020 has been a crazy year for everyone and it's not even over yet. We still have 46 days left this year. I was watching the news the other day, and there was not one good thing I have heard from all the news. There's chaos, suffering and so many heartbreaking things happening all around the world. And it made me think how fortunate I am, how blessed I am, that in the midst of pandemic, I have roof above my head, I have food on my table, my family is here next to me, alive and well.
