“this is killing me.” kuroo mumbled as he tossed his phone to his side. “just trust me bro,” his best friend-turned roommate bokuto grinned. “this works everytime for me i swear!”
kuroo sighed before grabbing phone again to refresh his instagram story views once more. several people had already viewed the post-gym mirror selfie he’d taken in attempts to garner attention from one particular follower of his; you. “maybe it’s too cringe…” he muttered while over analysing the photo that had already gained a couple of likes within the twenty minutes it had already been up for. “nah.” bokuto reassured him and pat his friend on the shoulder. “you look sexy.” kuroo stared back at the two-toned haired boy. “… thanks bro.”
this isn’t something kuroo would typically post but times were tough and he was desperate. he’d seen you around campus but luck was not on his side when it came to scheduling and the two of you barely had class time together. yet the little class time you did share, kuroo hung onto it tightly and would let scenes of these weekly one hour classes replay in his head more often than he’d like to admit.
“i feel like a modern jay gatsby,” the ex volleyball captain huffed. “my selfie is the equivalent of the wild parties he’d throw in hopes to get daisy’s attention except i don’t want to post every night, i’ve already made myself cringe with this one post.” bokuto stared back at his friend blankly. “yeah… whatever that means.” kuroo frowned back “it’s a classic, you should know what i mean!”
how much longer was he going to have to wait? bokuto had promised him quick results with this method and so far he’d felt deceived and lied to. if talking to you when he got the chance wasn’t enough to get a conversation going outside the classroom, then social media seemed like the next best attempt to start interacting more.
what were you doing? why weren’t you viewing his story? could you even see his story? did he accidentally block you?
these questions ran through his mind as he quickly rushed to check to make sure he hadn’t for some reason blocked you from seeing his story. he half wished he did because then at least he’d know what on earth was taking you so damn long to see the photo he was increasingly starting to hate more the longer it was posted.
“this is stupid.” he stated as he faced bokuto who had zero concerns in his method in gaining someone’s attention. “it works you just have to wait, trust me.”
kuroo frowned as the little red hearts of others who weren’t you fluttered from the bottom corner of the photo. “look!” his best friend grinned as he leaned over kuroo’s shoulder and pointed to the screen of his phone. “you’re getting likes on it!”
“what’s the point if they’re not likes from the person i posted this for in the first place.” kuroo grumbled back in response. he couldn’t believe he’d been subjected to such an attempt to gain some attention from you. it was ridiculous.
it had been about forty five minutes since he’d posted it and he was slowly losing his mind. sure, the post was going to be up for twenty four hours (if he didn’t give into the voices in his head telling him to delete it) so forty five minutes was nothing, but the minutes were beginning to feel like hours and he was dying inside. why weren’t you viewing it already and what could possibly be keeping you off your phone right now?
“this is stupid.” he decided as notifications from his old team mates started to flash up on his screen. the last thing he needed was lev replying with ‘looksmaxing’ to a post that was secretly dedicated to you. “no, it’s barely been up!” bokuto whined. “you look hot so you should get some replies anyway what’s the big deal?”
pinching the bridge of his nose, kuroo huffed. “the big deal is the person i posted this for hasn’t replied!” what was the point in making sure to go to the gym during a rest day just to take this photo if he wasn’t going to at least make his existence more known to you? he’d even worked his legs enough to the point of managing to achieve the sweaty but sexy look. the muscles in his legs were dying, but his dignity sure as hell wouldn’t.
the college student opened up his phone with the intention to end the mental war inside his head once and for all by deleting the post altogether. bokuto watched his friend in defeat but his eyes flashed. “yes they did!” he yelled and pointed to the screen as your name flashed at the top of his screen.
kuroo’s heart jumped at the sight of your profile picture he’d made a daily routine of staring at and the now blue dot indicating a message from your profile in his inbox. to think he was going to delete this post just a second too, what were the chances?
psyching himself up, kuroo took a few quiet deep breathes before letting the time next to your message pass for a few minutes. he wasn’t an instagram warrior by any means, but he knew enough about general rules in order to not look desperate online.
bokuto watched over his friends shoulders as the two stared in anticipation awaiting the message kuroo had been dying for. this was it. leg day two times in a row was gruelling and he’d regret it for the next few days but it would have been worth it. the countless messages from his old teammates mocking his attempts at a thirst trap could be looked past now that you had finally given into the bait he’d so carefully laid. this is what he’d been waiting for. days of preparing and deciding how to gain your attention had finally paid off and he was about to reap the rewards he’d sown.
clicking the message with baited breath, his heart raced as bokuto’s grip of his shoulder tightened. finally.
‘the label on your shirt is sticking out, make sure to cut it’
“a wins a win.” bokuto filled the silence between the pair as kuroo stared at his phone with a blank expression. “… a wins a win…”

─ ⊹ ⊱ ☆ ⊰ ⊹ ─
“Have a great flight.” The lady at the terminal gate said to me with a smile as she handed me my scanned ticket. “Thank you.” I replied before walking towards my boyfriend, Matt, who was waiting for me a few feet ahead. Once I reached him, he grabbed my hand and placed a soft kiss on my forehead. “You ready?” He asked, to which I inhaled a deep breath and nodded apprehensively.
Matt and I met at a party about eight months ago, and had hit it off right away. I had been drawn in by his sunken blue eyes and withdrawn behaviour that night, but grew hooked by his kind nature and complex personality once we began speaking regularly. We made it official less than a month after meeting, and had been inseparable since. Our relationship developed into something quite serious rather quickly, but things still somehow felt new and exciting everyday.
Today, we were flying back to his hometown in Boston, where I was going to meet his parents for the first time. Although he had reassured me countless times that MaryLou and Jimmy were going to love me, I couldn’t help but feel a bit intimidated by meeting two of the most important people in Matt’s life. Not only that, but I had also never been in a relationship that grew serious enough to meet the parents of my significant other before now; so the unknown territory made the whole ordeal all the more daunting.
Matt’s triplet brothers Chris and Nick had left for Boston the day before, as I had to stay in Los Angeles an extra day for work. This added another unsettling element, as I had grown so used to the presence of the other two on a day-to-day basis. However, what that meant was Matt and I had a good excuse to buy first class tickets instead of the usual economy tickets. This brought me some relief, as I had never sat in first class before and knew that I would be able to relax much easier than I had on previous flights.
Arriving at the front of the plane, we were guided by the flight attendant to the fifth row of seats and I gasped. In front of me was a spacious row with just two large seats. The seats were joined together — separated only by an arm rest — but both had a ridiculous amount of leg room, and there was even a privacy curtain available to use at the end of the aisle.
“Oh my god Matt, this one row is almost as big as my entire bedroom at home!” I exclaimed excitedly before hurrying into my window seat. Matt chuckled before following me into the row and getting comfortable in his own seat beside mine. “I take it you like it?” He asked sarcastically, though I still nodded my head like an enthusiastic toddler. “Well, get settled in baby. We’ve got a five and a half hour flight ahead of us.” He leaned over the cushioned arm rest between our seats and planted a soft kiss on my lips. I sighed at the reminder before investigating the small gift bundle beside my seat. There were a few snacks, some travel-sized toiletries, and a pillow and blanket; I couldn’t help but squeal from excitement. “Holy shit Matt! Look at this stuff!” I quickly unfolded the blanket and wrapped myself in it as he did the same. “I know, it’s cool right. And it doesn’t stop there, watch this.” Matt smirked before reaching under his chair, when suddenly his seat reclined all the way back and transformed into a bed.
“WHAT?” I exclaimed before searching under my own seat for the recline handle. I giggled as my chair fell back and I was suddenly horizontal. “Oh my god, I am in heaven.” I sighed blissfully, stretching my arms above my head in bliss. “And look,” Matt continued, reaching for the arm rest and pushing it back so that it became flush with our beds, “Now we just have one big bed to share.” He giggled before scooting closer to my side while simultaneously grabbing my waist and pulling me into him. I laughed and rolled over so that I could face him; propping myself up on my elbow and gazing down at him. “Thank you Matty.” I said before planting a gentle kiss on his eyelid. “You don’t have to thank me, Y/n,” He chuckled, “I just can’t wait for my parents to meet you.” My heart fluttered from his words, and I repositioned my body so that I could curl into his.
“I can’t wait to meet them, either. I mean, I’m nervous as fuck but I really do want to get to know the two people who created you three weirdos.” I closed my eyes, feeling my body relax as the plane began moving down the tarmac. Matt mindlessly rubbed my back as we laughed, just waiting for the unmistakable sensation of the plane taking off.
Once we were finally in the air, I rolled over to fetch my air pods from my backpack. “Let’s listen to some music, I can’t stand all this white noise in here.” I said, handing the left pod to Matt and keeping the right for myself. Once they were secured in both of our ears, I scrolled through my Spotify account to find mine and Matt’s shared playlist before hitting shuffle. I fell onto my back and closed my eyes as the music played in both of our ears; growing more and more comfortable as my eyes grew heavy and the sensation of sleep began to overtake me.
─ ⊹ ⊱ ☆ ⊰ ⊹ ─
I was awoken from my deep sleep by the sound of a baby wailing a few aisles behind me. Forgetting where I was for a moment, I woke with a startle before remembering that I was on a plane. Slightly disoriented, I checked the time on my phone to discover that we had been in the air for four hours. I was shocked that I was able to sleep that long on a flight, since usually in the economy seats I would struggle to even get 45 minutes of true rest. I looked to my right at Matt’s sleeping figure. He was lying on his stomach with his peaceful face turned in my direction — very clearly having as deep of a sleep as I was previously having. His dark eyelashes fluttered slightly every now and then, and due to the way his face pressed against the small pillow, his pink lips were squished into an exaggerated pout.
Admiring his undeniable beauty, I had to resist the urge to lean over and pepper him with kisses. Instead, I went on my phone and began scrolling through our music playlist. After queuing a few songs, I moved onto my camera roll to kill some time as I felt boredom begin to overtake me. I felt like the biggest loser ever as I scrolled through the countless photos I had taken of Matt and I over the past few months with a corny smile plastered to my face. We truly had spent nearly every single day together since that first night that we met, and I had been sure to capture as many memories on camera as I could.
I continued to scroll for a few moments before coming across a particular memory that caused me to audibly gasp. It was a video that Matt and I had made about a month before. Our first and only sex tape. Before playing the video, I snuck a glance at Matt to make sure he was still sleeping and turned the volume down to zero so that it wouldn’t play through the air pod that was still resting in his ear. Cautiously, I hit play on the video and watched from Matt’s angle as he pounded into me from behind. To be completely honest, I had totally forgotten that we had taken that video and hadn’t even watched it before, so I stared in awe as our bodies collided again and again. The only issue was that I so badly wanted to hear the audio as my curiosity notoriously got the better of me in situations such as this. I was curious to know what I really sounded like during sex, and knew that listening to the audio was one of the only ways that I could.
Suddenly, I had an idea that would not only allow me to listen but would also have the potential to wake Matt up. Looking at him once again with a smirk across my face, I started the video from the beginning; this time with the volume about halfway up. Instantly, my right ear was filled with the unmistakably erotic sounds of our sex; body parts smacking against one another, loud moans, and the occasional dirty phrase falling from one of our mouths.
With the brightness on my phone turned down low, I watched intently at our moving bodies on my screen. I could only pull my eyes away to take a quick glance at Matt, who was beginning to shift around slightly under the blanket. I watched him for a moment, noticing that his eyes were still closed and he appeared to still be sound asleep. Growing frustrated that he still wasn’t waking up, I turned the sound on my phone to maximum volume just as the recorded version of him and I were reaching our climaxes. The crude noises became more and more erratic as the volume increased, and suddenly Matt’s blue eyes shot open.
He scanned the area frantically, obviously disoriented and confused by the sounds swarming his ears. When his eyes finally met mine and he noticed the playful smile on my face, he visibly relaxed and rolled his eyes sarcastically. “Y/n, what the fuck are you watching?” He asked through a chuckle before leaning towards me to take a glance at my phone screen. “Oh my god, you’re ridiculous.” He added once he caught a glimpse of the two of us in the video; falling onto his back and covering his eyes with his crossed arms.
I collapsed into a fit of laughter before innocently replying, “What?”, fluttering my eyelashes and softening my voice. He simply shook his head, but I could see his lips curling into a smile behind his protective arms. “Don’t get me started, baby. Get some rest.” Was his reply, and I grumbled internally. I was far from tired, not only because I had already slept for four hours, but because I had just worked myself up for the past few minutes by watching that video. Still, I reluctantly obliged by hitting shuffle on our playlist once again before finding a comfortable position to attempt to get a bit more sleep.
My eyes were closed, my breathing was steady, but my body was wide awake; so I felt the shift that came from Matt sitting up in the bed. I was laying on my side with my back facing him, but through the soft music playing in my ear I could hear the privacy curtain slide across its rod. My eyes stayed shut as I felt the warmth of his body pressing up against me. I pretended to not feel his hand gently gliding across the curves of my hips, or his hardening member nudging against my thigh. However, once his lips pressed against the sensitive spot on my neck, my body began to fail me in its pretend ignorance. He delicately sucked on my thin skin, and my pulse began to quicken. His cool breath tickled my neck and I shivered in anticipation. His hand slowly traveled from my hip down my stomach, before finally reaching under my waistband towards my core, and I released a shaky breath.
I felt his lips upturn into a smile against my neck at my clear response. “Oh, so you are awake.” He teased, moving his hand away from my heat and resting his chin in the crook of my neck. I opened my eyes to a squint and looked at him. “What are you doing?” I asked with a slight whine in my voice. He scoffed dramatically. “What, you think you could play a video like that and expect me not to get worked up?” I smiled shyly before responding. “I just wanted to wake you. I was bored.” He scooted himself even closer to me, so that now our bodies were pressed tight against each other. “Oh yeah?” He placed a kiss to my neck again, this time tugging lightly at the skin with his teeth. “And what did you want to do to try to counteract this boredom?” He whispered, and my breath hitched as he brought a hand under my shirt and began fondling my sensitive nipples.
I closed my eyes before turning my body so that I was now facing him. “Matt, we are on a plane right now.” I said, my voice dropping to a whisper by the end of my sentence. He smirked before shrugging his shoulders nonchalantly. “That’s what the curtain is for, sweetheart.” My eyes shifted to the space behind him, where the curtain was shut and properly secured by a hook near his head. My focus was brought back to him as I felt his hands gently begin tugging down my sweatpants. “You just have to be quiet for me, okay?” I gulped nervously before nodding my head mindlessly, already growing distracted by the arousal beginning to form in my panties.
Matt pulled me closer to him before placing a soft kiss against my lips. His hand gently ran up and down my inner thigh, just barely grazing my heat with each stroke. He placed another kiss against my lips, this one longer and deeper than the first, and he put his right leg between my knees to prop them up and apart. Our mouths moved against each other in sync, and my hands began to travel through his hair, over his shoulders, and finally down to his stomach. I hissed when he finally cupped his hand over my heat, his thumb just barely resting on my clit. Even through the thin layer of fabric that was my panties, the contact was intense. “Mmm, baby, you’re already so wet for me.” He mumbled gruffly against my lips, causing me to squirm.
“Touch me Matty, please.” I begged softly, my eyes pleading as my core began to throb. He chuckled, our teeth clanking together gently, before attacking my neck with his mouth. “So needy, huh? You want these fingers?” He cooed, sliding two of his fingers — now hooked under my panties — up my slit to collect my juices. I squeezed my eyes shut and bit my bottom lip as I nodded frantically. “Mhm.” Was all I managed to get out in response to his question. “What was that? I couldn’t quite hear you.” He was taunting me, both with his words and with his fingers as he toyed with my outer folds. I squirmed again, shifting slightly so that I was more on my back so that I could widen my legs easier. “N-need your fingers baby.” I managed to groan out, doing my best to keep my voice low so that our actions could go unnoticed by everyone around us.
Now leaning over me slightly, he looked down at me with hooded eyelids and a matching smirk. “That’s my girl.” He replied before finally rubbing circles on my swollen clit. My eyes rolled to the back of my head as I became engulfed in the overwhelmingly pleasurable sensation. I opened my eyes to find his traveling across my face. He had clearly been watching me in my state of ecstasy, and his blown out pupils and parted wet lips were clear signs that he was liking what he was seeing. Suddenly, a sharp moan escaped my lips as he plunged two of his fingers into me, and he quickly planted a firm hand over my mouth to prevent any more noises as he curled his fingers in and out of me mercilessly. The sensation became almost too much once he connected the base of his palm to my clit and began rubbing it in rhythm with his other movements, and almost without thinking I began clawing at the waist band of his sweatpants; desperate to feel more of him.
I pulled his sweats and his boxers down in one swift movement, and immediately began toying with his rock hard cock. Looking up at him as he continued his movements, I brought my hand to my mouth and allowed my collected saliva to drip onto it before bringing it back to his member. I began milking the tip of his cock and immediately noticed a change of pace in his fingers on my cunt. I watched his face as his eyes fluttered shut momentarily and his ears began to grow red. “Fuck, Y/n.” He moaned softly, his words alone enough to drive me crazy. I continued to stroke him, feeling each and every vein along his sizeable shaft, as I felt the familiar tingling sensation of an orgasm fast approaching.
“I-I need more of you Matty. Give me your cock please.” I was really begging now. My legs were beginning to shake and I was close to losing all control, but I wanted to cum around him. I watched as Matt’s eyes nearly rolled to the back of his head as his dick twitched in my hand, a clear sign that my words had an impact on him, too. “Turn on your side.” He commanded, and I immediately obliged. Once I was facing away from him, he wasted no time in lying down beside me — one of his arms wrapped across my chest and massaging my right tit — and sliding his cock into my soaking wet pussy.
We both couldn’t help but release small moans at the satisfying feeling that came from him bottoming out, but he gave me little time to adjust to his size before thrusting into me almost desperately. Using his grasp on my tit, he pushed my back against his chest so that my body was flush with his. “Jesus baby, you’re so tight.” He praised softly, his mouth pressed against my ear as his hips continued to snap against my ass. I couldn’t manage a reply, instead I brought my right hand up to grab onto the back of his neck. I fell into a deep trance from the feeling of my spongey walls stretching and moulding to his cock as if they were two matching puzzle pieces. He left sloppy open mouthed kisses all along my face, growing careless with his movements as the pressure in my lower half began to grow almost unbearable.
“You’re close, aren’t you sweetheart.” He breathed against my hair. I couldn’t do much more than nod my head. “It’s okay, let go. Just be a good girl and stay quiet for me okay?” He used his free hand to once again cover my mouth in anticipation of what might come just as my orgasm bubbled over. I did everything I could to stay silent, but as my orgasm tore through me a plethora of moans fell from my lips and into his gentle hand. My grip on the back of his neck tightened and my back arched away from his torso as I felt the unmistakable warm spurt of fluid stream from my cunt.
Just as I began coming down from my high, Matt released a few short grunts before halting his movements entirely. “Fuuuuck.” His profanity came out in a breathy sigh. His forehead fell to my shoulder, and I could feel his dick pulsating inside of me as he painted my walls with his cum. After a moment, I felt his body relax behind me and he collapsed onto his pillow. For a little while, the only sounds coming from our little corner of the plane was the sound of our ragged breathing as we attempted to regain our composure.
“Well,” Matt eventually began, sitting up and lifting the blanket, exposing the wet spot in the bed that my squirt created, “How are we gonna explain this one?” I took a moment to look at it before sliding my sweats back on. “Easy, we just tell them that you got a little scared of the turbulence and pissed yourself.” He rolled his eyes as he put his pants back on as well, and I laughed. “You’re something else kid.”
Just then, a woman’s voice came from behind the closed curtain. Matt looked at me quickly to ensure that I was fully clothed before opening the curtain and coming face to face with an older flight attendant. “Hi there.” She said, her voice cheerful and her face plastered with a fake smile. “We’re going to be making our landing in Boston in about thirty minutes, please return to an upright position as soon as you can.” Matt nodded his head and gave her a quick smile before she promptly moved down to the next row of flyers. As soon as she was out of earshot, he gave me a cheeky side eye and we both immediately broke into fits of laughter.
“We timed that well.” He said through his laughter and I covered my face with my hands. “I can’t believe we just did that.” I replied, shaking my head as I came to the realization that I had just fucked my boyfriend on a commercial flight. He wrapped his arms around me and pulled me into his chest. “We’re in the mile high club now, baby.” He kissed the top of my head. “Now let’s get our seats back up. Only thirty minutes until you meet my parents!”

“You’re kidding”.
A single chuckle was heard in the hallway, where Hyunjin stood holding up a quite long puffer jacket of his for you to wear.
It was comical, actually — how you had opened the door for him with a smile adorning your face, only for it to be erased the second he flaunted the jacket in your face and you were hit with the fact that he was indeed not kidding when he told you earlier that day that he’d bring you a jacket if you decided you weren’t wearing one.
A part of him regretted it as soon as he saw you. You looked beautiful. You always did, but the dress you decided to wear that night could only make him feel like not taking his eyes off of you for even just a second; wishing he could throw the jacket to the side and act like he hadn’t brought it in the first place.
The most rational part of him, the one that could still manage to control himself around you, however, made him stand his ground. As stunning as you looked, the weather outside was just too cold for you to wear only a dress.
“As you can see,” he wiggled the piece of clothing in his hands. “I am not”.
“You really expect me to wear that?” You raised a questioning eyebrow.
“Unless you want to go get a puffer jacket of your own, yes”.
Rolling your eyes, you took a step outside your apartment and closed the door behind you, sliding your purse down your arm before you took his coat from him. “Whatever, I’m taking it off as soon as I enter the restaurant anyway”.
Holding your purse for you while you put the jacket on, Hyunjin couldn’t help but smile at the sight in front. You wearing his clothes made him feel something he had not quite felt before, and he could only rejoice in it and take it one step further by zipping the jacket up until it was covering your chin.
“I look ridiculous” you stated.
“You look cute” he reassured you, handing you your bag.
“You look handsome though, and I’m not matching your vibe anymore” you fought him once more, completely unaware of the power your first statement had over him.
Having to clear his throat in order to conceive the butterflies in his stomach, he gestured to the stairs, so you would start walking towards them.
“Let’s go” he said. “You can match my vibe when you take it off at dinner”.
The moment you stepped a foot outside, you were thankful that he forced you to wear it, but he wouldn’t catch you admitting it out loud, of course. Not like he needed you to anyway, for one look at you and the way you were hugging yourself while you waited for the taxi he called to pull over, was enough for him to smile proudly to himself.
And then, when you arrived to the restaurant and you didn’t immediately take it off like you claimed you would, he knew you’d found comfort in the warmth it was providing you with.
One of his friends spotted him from their table and waved at him, catching his attention, and only then, when you were walking towards a group of at least ten people, you began to feel nervous. It only intensified when you reached them and all their eyes focused on both of you.
Greeting everyone with a small bow, you walked around the table after Hyunjin motioned for you to go before him.
Thankfully, Han and Minho had saved two seats in between them, so you’d end up sitting in between Hyunjin and either one of them instead of next to any of their other friends you didn’t know.
As soon as you reached the empty seats, you threw Hyunjin a taunting smile.
“May I take this off now?” You motioned at the jacket he made you wear.
Hyunjin laughed, nodding his head and reaching out to help you slide it off your arms. “You’re putting it back on as soon as we’re done here, though”.
You visibly rolled your eyes at him, earning another light laugh of his as he placed it on the chair in front of him, and then pulled it out for you to sit down. It took you a second to get it, only doing so when his eyes met yours and he nodded his head towards the seat for you to sit down on.
You smiled sweetly, doing as told and then quietly thanking him when he took a seat next to you.
You realised then that, much to your relief, you had already been introduced to most of the people in there, thanks to that one birthday party they threw Hyunjin a few years ago, and some others you had seen on two or three of his social media posts.
The only new faces were two guys sitting by the left and a brunette sitting in front of you, right next to Haeun, a really nice girl you remembered talking to back at Hyunjin’s surprise party.
“Did you guys order already?” Hyunjin asked.
“Not yet,” Minho replied, handing him the menu. “But we already know what we’re ordering, so you better make up your mind fast”.
Chuckling under his breath, Hyunjin placed the menu in front of the two of you while his friends called the waiter to start ordering, so you could check out your options.
“Would it be too basic of me to just order tteokbokki?” You mumbled for only him to hear, still staring at the menu after having gone through everything in it. “Although donkatsu does sound really good right now”.
“The donkatsu here is amazing so I had that in mind, but now I’m torn between tteokbokki as well” he confessed with a breathy laugh, earning a chuckle from you.
“Should we order both and share them?” You proposed, looking up to him and watching a bright smile show on his face.
“Yeah, let’s do that”.
Sitting up straight right as everyone else was done ordering, Hyunjin handed the menu back to the waiter and proceeded to order what the two of you agreed on.
As soon as the waiter left, you felt all eyes fall on the two of you.
“So when were you telling us you got yourself a girlfriend?” One the guys you had never seen before asked him right away.
Hyunjin almost choked on air, feeling his face heat up while everyone stared at the two of you and you looked nearly frozen over that question.
“I’m not…” you began, looking over at Hyunjin as you didn’t really know what else to say.
“She’s Yeji’s best friend” Hyunjin finished your point.
“Oh? You guys must be very close then for you to bring her without your sister” Jihoo, if you remembered the name correctly, asked this time with a teasing smirk.
“Yeji’s out of town and Hyunie didn’t want me to spend new year’s eve alone” you explained.
“Yeah, I can tell you guys aren’t that close” the girl next to Haeun stated, her eyes going from you to Hyunjin. “Hyunjin hates being called Hyunie”.
“We are close, though” Hyunjin corrected her in a heartbeat. Had she not just seen you arrive together while you wore his jacket? “She can call me whatever she wants”.
Your head turned to Han next to you, who couldn’t hold back a snort and ended up choking on his water.
“Oh, so he’s like a little brother to you?” She asked you directly this time, and you managed to catch the not very subtle nudge Haeun gave her to shut up. “Is that why you call him that?”
“Can we talk about something else?” Han spoke before you could answer, having managed to catch his breath surprisingly fast. “Hyunjin’s love life has never been that interesting anyway”.
Although earning himself a smack from Hyunjin, it was enough to make the whole table laugh and move on to another topic — one that didn’t have to do with your and Hyunjin’s relationship status, and one that would definitely not end up with you possibly confirming to him that you saw him as a little brother. He really had to thank Han for that one.
The rest of the dinner went smoothly. Hyunjin’s friends were a lot of fun, you soon realised, to the point you found yourself laughing so much that you were able to ignore the nasty looks the girl in front of you —whose name you later found out was Dahye— would give you anytime you interacted with Hyunjin; which, considering he was sitting next to you and on top of that he was sharing dishes with you, were a lot.
It wouldn’t take a genius to understand that she was into Hyunjin and that it might be a problem that night given he had arrived with you, but you had more important things to care about rather than to pay attention to her anyway, like making sure you’d get along with Hyunjin’s friends so he wouldn’t feel like he had to check up on you to see if you were having fun every five minutes, and later that night racing him to pay for the check, only to be beaten by him.
The proud smirk that curved up his mouth while he paid for dinner was enough for you to peacefully accept your defeat and forget about the girl glaring at you from the side.
-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-♡
By the time you made it to the club, which was only three streets away from the restaurant, as Hyunjin’s group had deliberately chosen one of the most popular areas not to need another car to get you there, it was already filled with people — the queue to enter being quite long, yet moving surprisingly fast.
Hyunjin found himself unconsciously tugging at the sleeve of your —his— jacket as soon as you made it inside, standing right behind you not to lose you in the crowd of people as you made your way past them. And it only hit him how close you were when you turned your head to him and your nose nearly brushed against his mouth.
“We should find the coat check” you said, coming closer to his ear for him to be able to hear you over the loud music.
He nodded, gulping hard before the two of you stood there looking around the place. When you found it not too far from where you were standing, you pointed at it, feeling Hyunjin nod behind you and telling something to one of his friends before taking off — although inaudible, you guessed it had to do with something along the lines of coming back to them right away.
“You know, this wouldn’t have been necessary if you’d just let me come without a coat” you taunted once on the desk, beginning to take it off.
Hyunjin chuckled, shaking his head while he took his jacket off as well, as it was way hotter than he’d expected inside the club. Much to your surprise, the black shirt he was wearing underneath, and which you had supposed was long-sleeved, was not. His biceps were fully displayed as he reached for your purse and the puffer jacket you were trying to fold, and you couldn’t help but stare while he handed the three items to the person behind the desk.
Putting the claim ticket inside his pants’ pocket, his eyes focused back on you, smiling shyly when he caught you staring.
“And then I’m the one who’s not appropriately dressed for the weather?” You raised a questioning eyebrow.
His previous shy smile turned into a smirk, gently turning you around and placing his hands on your bare shoulders so he could lead you through the crowd towards your group. “I was wearing a jacket”.
“It’s so not the same?” You turned your face to him once again, and he swore your unannounced proximity would be the end of him.
“I care about you not getting a cold, shouldn’t you be saying thank you?” He argued, pulling you closer to him when you almost bumped into someone.
“I looked ridiculous” you stated.
He begged to differ, you looked adorable. He would lend you his clothes every time he could, even if you weren’t being stubborn and didn’t really need him to at all.
“Besides, who says I don’t care about you catching a cold either?”
“I didn’t see you bringing me a jacket though?” He questioningly tilted his head.
You rolled your eyes. “You can wear the one you brought me once we leave. I’ll wear your other one”.
Hyunjin laughed under his breath, thankful for the loud music and bad lighting that allowed him to hide just how flustered he was over the simple thought of you leaving the club wearing the jacket he had come with. Sure, you came in wearing his puffer jacket, but there was something about everyone else seeing you leave in the jacket he was previously wearing, that sent butterflies flying all over his stomach.
“I’ll think about it” he tried to play it cool, earning a triumphant smile from you.
Seeing Han wave towards the two of you from near the bar, Hyunjin tightened his hold on your shoulders, redirecting your body in said direction before you saw him as well. Getting closer to the group, the two of you smiled in relief when you noticed they had managed to take over a booth.
“Where’s the rest?” He asked Han, realising only half of the group was there.
Jisung shrugged. “Some went to get drinks, some are dancing”.
Hyunjin gave him a quick nod before turning back to you. “I’ll go get us drinks” he informed you. “Cranberry vodka is it? Or do you want something else?”
“Cranberry vodka is perfect” you smiled, finding it the sweetest how he remembered such a small detail like your drink of choice. “Should I go with you?”
He shook his head no, motioning for you to take a seat. “It’s okay, I’ll be right back”.
You gave him a smile, nodding for him to go and watching him and Han disappear into the crowd before you sat down, sliding towards the empty spot next to Minho, who was already enjoying his drink.
“Having fun so far?” He tried to initiate small talk.
Your eyebrows furrowed, leaning slightly closer to him, as you had not been able to hear him. “What?”
“Are you having fun?” He spoke over the music.
You nodded, a smile curving up your lips. “Yeah, you guys are fun. Although I’ve mostly been glued to Hyunie all night, which must be annoying”.
Minho chuckled, shaking his head in amusement. If you only knew, you being stuck to him was all Hyunjin ever wanted.
“Nah, he’s okay with it” he reassured you. “He was really excited about you joining us”.
Your smile brightened, feeling like a weight had just been lifted off your shoulders. “That’s good to know…” you mumbled more to yourself.
“Hey, we’re going to dance!” Haeun caught your attention from the other side of the booth, gesturing to herself and another girl next to her. “You wanna come?”
You politely denied with a smile. “I’m waiting for Hyunjin, maybe later!”
They both smiled back at you, standing up and rushing towards the rest of the group.
“Aren’t you joining the rest over there?” You asked Minho, catching on the way he was looking at them as well.
“Probably will once the alcohol hits” he confessed with a small smirk, getting a light laugh from you.
“Oh, so you’re into Minho then” a female voice spoke loudly from right behind you.
Turning around, you were met with Dahye, who was now sitting down next to you and staring at you with what you could recognize as a cynical smile.
Now, you didn’t have a problem with her so far, but the way it was becoming a habit of hers to make assumptions about your relationships with people was really beginning to annoy you.
“What?” You raised an eyebrow.
“You’re not into Hyunjin but into Minho” she took a sip of her drink. “I’ve got nothing to worry about then”.
“I’m not into anyone” you clarified.
“Good, because Hyunjin and I have a thing going on, so it’d be really messed up for you to come in between” she mindlessly played with the straw. “Not like he’d pay attention to you anyway, you seem way too mature and he’s into girls more his age, like me”.
Before you could reply, a very loud scoff was heard from Minho.
“Is bullshit all that ever comes out of your mouth?” He practically yelled over the music, getting dumbfounded looks from the rest of his friends in the booth.
Her mouth remained shut, shrugging ever so nonchalantly before she took another sip of liquor. Minho rolled his eyes, standing up and motioning for you to slide to his previous seat, so he could take your place instead and keep Dahye from interacting with you anymore.
“Don’t listen to her, she’s just jealous” he leaned in to say in more of a whisper.
Choosing to say nothing and to just let it slip, you nodded understandingly. In all honesty, though, you hardly understood what was going on.
Minho said that she was jealous, and you got that, it was clear that she had a thing for Hyunjin and it must’ve sucked to see him arrive with someone else. You knew you would’ve felt the same had you been in her shoes. But you had already explained that you were Hyunjin’s sister’s best friend, and that the only reason he invited you was because she was out of town. On top of that, you had also just made it known that you weren’t interested in anyone — not Hyunjin, not Minho, not any of their friends at all. So why wouldn’t she just drop it?
You disliked the way she was handling the whole situation, but you tried to understand her. The side of you that knew what it felt like to have feelings for someone and fear they were into someone else, tried its best to sympathize with her.
You were pulled out of your thoughts when Hyunjin arrived, loudly announcing that Han had stayed back and joined the rest of the group on the dance floor.
His previous smile faltered and his eyebrows furrowed when he realised that not only had Dahye joined your side of the booth, but also that you and Minho had switched places. One single look at his very annoyed friend, however, was enough for him to guess the whole picture.
Just as you had done a minute ago, he decided to say nothing, instead handing you your drink and smiling when you thanked him and squeezed up against Jihoo next to you, to make some space for him.
“Everything alright?” He asked, unable to hide his worry.
“Mhm…” you took a sip of your drink. “Apparently I’m into Minho now”.
“Wait, what?”
Minho nudged him to catch his attention before he could fully panic. “That’s what your admirer accused her of”.
Hyunjin rolled his eyes. That was one hell of a jump scare you just gave him.
“Why’d she think that anyway?”
“We were just talking and I guess we got too close since we couldn’t hear each other” you explained, chuckling to yourself when you realised you were just as close to Hyunjin now. “Just like we are now, she must be back to thinking I’m into you”.
Now, that was something he could deal with; Dahye —or anyone else for that matter— believing you were into him. That simple thought made him happy enough to let it slide just how close you had apparently been to his friend minutes ago.
A bright smile parted his lips, trying to play it cool by taking a sip of his drink, only for it to be erased the moment Dahye called him from next to Minho.
“Hyunjin, let’s go dance?”
He shook his head no. “I’m fine, thanks”.
“Yah,” you whispered-shouted, gently nudging him, which earned you a confused look by him. “Go have fun”.
“I am having fun,” he brought his drink up to his lips. “Right here”.
“Aw, come on” she insisted, reaching over Minho to hold Hyunjin’s wrist — needless to say, it took him less than a second to snatch his hand away. “You can still enjoy your drink on the dance floor”.
Not giving her an answer, his eyes fixed on you, and for some reason that was all it took for you to get it all wrong — because the scene you were seeing in front of you was the one of a girl who was head over heels for Hyunjin, trying her best to spend some time with him, and a very troubled Hyunjin who didn’t want to leave you alone. After all, he had invited you to join him and his friends that night, therefore, it was only rational that he’d think of it as rude to leave you all alone to go dance with someone else. Or so you thought.
So, not wanting to be the one holding him back, you did the most reasonable thing you could come up with in that moment: show him you could have fun on your own and he didn’t need to be glued to you making sure you were.
“Minho, you wanna dance?”
Not only did Minho’s head snap in your direction, but so did Hyunjin’s.
“Me?” He asked, taken aback as ever.
“Yeah” you smiled, already getting up to get out of the booth. “We can join Han and the rest”.
Feeling like a deer caught in the headlights, Minho’s first instinct was to look at Hyunjin, hopelessly looking for approval. Hyunjin, on the other hand, was too busy staring up at you to even notice his friend’s cry for help.
When he invited you to join them that night, he had completely overlooked the fact that you could end up bonding with someone else. He was blinded by the idea of him being the closest to you and therefore you not leaving his side, which was only intensified considering you’d been stuck together all night, but now you were asking Minho to dance with you instead of him, and he realised he had only played himself.
“Come onnn, the alcohol must be hitting at least a little bit by now” you teased him for his previous statement, motioning towards the dance floor.
“I mean, y-yes, sure” Minho stuttered, and only then, hearing his answer, Hyunjin’s glaring eyes fixed on him. “Maybe we could all go?”
His suggestion managed to calm Hyunjin down. Sure, he hated how Dahye was being included and how she’d most definitely end up dancing with him since you had asked Minho to, but it was the best his friend could do given the circumstances, and he was thankful for it.
“Yeah, let’s go” Hyunjin agreed, standing up as well and, much to his disappointment, being followed by a very happy Dahye.
He had definitely played himself.
-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-♡
Although your plan had partially failed, given you weren’t able to leave Hyunjin and Dahye alone, you were still decided to make the most of it and have a good time.
Nevertheless, roughly twenty minutes on the dance floor were enough for you to realise that having fun and ignoring Dahye’s behaviour towards you wouldn’t be as easy as it was during dinner. Because, although you did dance with Minho at first and she got to be with Hyunjin for a while, it only took a few minutes for the whole group to get together and end up goofily dancing around in a messy circle.
Hyunjin naturally gravitated towards you, and so did you towards him, for at the end of the day he was the one you came with and the one you wanted to be with the most, but every time he tried to talk to you over the music or just get closer to you for the sake of it, the girl next to him would try to draw his attention back to her.
You didn’t know whether to be annoyed or to feel bad for her, finding yourself acting oblivious to her poor attempts most of the time. It wasn’t your business anyway, but something she and Hyunjin had to figure out.
Even then, when she tugged at Hyunjin’s arm to pull him to her when you tried to come close to his ear in order to say something to him, you realised you had enough of this one-sided battle.
Gently grabbing his wrist right after he pulled away from her grasp and Haeun came to the rescue by making Dahye dance with her instead, you looked at the time on his watch. It was only a little past eleven, and you decided that was good enough for you to go back home.
Placing a hand on his shoulder and motioning for him to lean down so you could speak closer to his ear like you had previously tried to, you stood on your tiptoes to meet him halfway. “Can you hand me the claim ticket to go get my bag? I’ll bring it back before leaving”.
His eyebrows furrowed. “You wanna leave?”
You nodded. “Yeah, but you stay here. I’ll call a taxi, you don’t need to come with me”.
“Is something wrong?” He couldn’t help but ask.
“No, but—” you were cut off by a guy dancing behind you bumping into you. Your first instinct was to laugh it off, and Hyunjin’s was to pull you to him.
“Let’s go get our things and talk outside” he raised his voice over the music once again. “It’s too chaotic in here”.
You simply nodded, deciding to look past the fact that he was getting his jacket as well, and wanting to believe it only had to do with him going outside until you left and not wanting to freeze in the meantime.
Once on the street, you were thankful to breathe in some fresh air, even if it was cold as hell compared to how it was inside the club. Hyunjin ended up going against his fantasy of seeing you in the jacket he had arrived in, and giving you his puffer coat once again instead. You were far done complaining by now anyway, for it was doing wonders to keep you warm.
“Is the taxi coming?” He asked, shoving his phone into his pocket after letting his friends know you were leaving.
“Mhm…” you nodded, looking up from your phone and catching the way he was rubbing his hands together and blowing some hot breath in them. “Should be here in the next five minutes”.
“It’s not even midnight yet, though…” he pointed out. “What happened?”
“Nothing happened, really, I just…” you shrugged, a shy smile curving up your lips. “Am I allowed to say it?”
“Say what?” He wondered.
“I feel like I’m cockblocking you”.
“What?” To say he was astonished was an understatement. “Cockblocking me? You?”
“Yeah, with Dahye”.
“With Dahye?!”
You laughed, shaking your head as you looked down at your phone, seeing the taxi be only four minutes away now.
“Have I not made it clear enough that I don’t like her?”
“But you could if you weren’t so closed off to give her a chance” you smiled. “I feel like I’m keeping you from getting a midnight kiss and maybe even more by being here because you’re kind of obliged to stick with me, or maybe you feel uncomfortable with me seeing that side of you because I’m Yeji’s friend and I could snitch on you or something”.
Hyunjin blinked rapidly, trying to take in the nonsense that had just come out of your mouth.
“I’m not obliged to, I want to be with you” he clarified. “And I couldn’t care less about you snitching on me to Yeji, I’ve got lots of shit on her anyway. That’s not it at all”.
“But she—”
“I don’t know what makes you think I want to kiss Dahye at midnight or whatever, because I—just,” he sighed. “It’s kind of a long story”.
“Ugh, just when my taxi’s almost here,” you whined, looking up from your phone and to the street. “You can go back inside, but I’m very intrigued now so maybe we can catch up later?”
“No, I’m leaving with you”.
“I can leave alone, though. You don’t have to worry about me, Hyun…jin? Hyun?” Your eyebrows furrowed, pensively. “Is Hyun okay? Should I stick to Hyunjin?”
“What?”
“Dahye said you hate being called Hyunie,” you reminded him. “I’ve been calling you that all these years, I’m sorry”.
“Y/N, no. Please don’t,” he sighed heavily, throwing his head back as he felt like pulling his hair out. “Don’t listen to anything she says”.
“But—”
“But nothing, she knows nothing” he cut you off. “I only hate it when she calls me that. I’ve told her multiple times not to”.
“Are you sure?” You hesitated.
He nodded, coming closer to you. “Like I told her earlier tonight, you can call me whatever you want”.
“Even if it’s something ridiculous like pudding?” You smirked, and he snorted, shaking his head in disbelief.
“Who are you, Harley Quinn?”
“Don’t test me, I will come up with something embarrassing to call you in front of your friends”.
Before he could bite back, your taxi pulled over in front of you.
“You should go back to them now” you motioned towards the club, walking towards the car.
“I don’t want you to welcome the new year alone, though” he followed hot on your heels.
You smiled sweetly. “Trust me, you did more than enough for me tonight. I had a lot of fun thanks to you, Hyunie, you don’t need to worry about me at all”.
He smiled softly, loving that you were back to calling him that.
“Would it change anything if I said I want to be with you at midnight?”
“Possibly…” you felt your face heat up. “But I want you to have fun with your friends”.
“Okay then, how about this,” he began, knowing he didn’t have much time to negotiate right then and opening the door for you. “I leave with you now, we spend the countdown together, and then I come back here afterwards”.
Pondering your choices for a quick second, and knowing he was just as obstinate as you, you gave in.
“Okay,” you smiled, entering the car for once and for all. “I expect you at my door ready to come back here as soon as midnight hits, though”.
-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-♡
You made it back to your place barely twenty minutes before midnight.
You were relieved to be able to take off your heels, rushing to set the coffee table in your living room the best you could with what you had at home — that being a few snacks and a bottle of white wine, as your original plan before Hyunjin invited you to spend new year’s eve with him was to eat and drink alone while watching TV and scrolling through your phone.
He tried to help you set everything up, but you were adamant on him relaxing on your couch while you took care of it. After all, he was the one to treat you all night, now it was your time to take care of him.
Once everything was done, and Hyunjin was quietly switching channels to find one covering the new year’s celebration not to miss the countdown, you excused yourself to quickly change into something more comfortable, since, unlike him, you weren’t going out again.
“How long until midnight?” You asked, fixing your hair while you re-entered the living room in a dark blue sleepwear.
“Twelve minutes” he announced, gesturing towards the TV.
“I was afraid we wouldn’t make it” you confessed, earning a laugh from him as you slumped on the couch.
“Good thing the club wasn’t that far from your place” Hyunjin chuckled, handing you a glass of the wine he opened while you changed in your room.
“Honestly I didn’t care about missing the countdown, but then you came here with me and I was afraid I’d make you miss it”.
“Worst case scenario, we celebrated in the taxi” he shrugged.
“As opposed to you getting to be all hyped up spending it with your friends at the club?” You questioned, then shaking your head in denial. “I would’ve felt so bad”.
He chuckled, taking a sip of wine. “I wouldn’t have minded”.
“No, but I’m sorry I felt like leaving earlier” you pouted. “We should’ve just gone back inside”.
“The taxi was already there,” he pointed out. “And in all honesty I wouldn’t have made you go back there when I knew you were uncomfortable. Dahye kinda ruined it for me too anyway”.
“Right…” you mumbled. “So what is it with her?”
He sighed heavily, making you laugh over how stressed out he seemed just by thinking of it.
“Okay so first of all, she’s not even part of our friend group” he began. “She’s Haeun’s cousin and she always manages to get her to invite her to our hangouts, which is really annoying since she isn’t friends with most of us”.
“You invited me, though?”
“It’s different” he argued. “You’re nothing like her, and my friends really like you”.
“She doesn’t seem that bad?” You tried to reason, and the glare you got from him was enough to let you know she was. “Don’t give me that look, she looked pretty nice to everyone but me”.
“Yeah, that’s…” he sighed again. “She’s had a thing for me for like two years now, and I made the awful mistake of kissing her when I got wasted one night after breaking up with Seoyun and now she won’t leave me alone”.
“Hold on, hold on, hold on” you sat up straight, leaving your glass on the coffee table to focus on him entirely. “You kissed her?! Seoyun? Who’s Seoyun?”
And then it hit him, how you never really knew about his first girlfriend. Because you weren’t as close back then.
Somehow, spending these past three days with you made your fall-out feel minuscule, like you’d only spent a couple of months apart at most. It was only then that he got a reality check and got hit by the fact that you had missed almost four years of each other’s life.
Although you kept in touch as much as you could, he now realised how superficial your conversations and interactions had remained.
“Right,” he laughed nervously. “Um, she was my girlfriend. And yes, I kissed Dahye…”
“And now you’re surprised that she’s obsessed with you?”
He snorted, pinching the bridge of his nose as he lamented. “I was drunk. Wasted, actually. I wouldn’t even remember if it weren’t for the fact that Han and Minho won’t let me live it down”.
You chuckled, imagining just how much shit they must’ve given him for it. “It was only a one time thing then?
“Yeah, I think it was like the second time we saw each other, didn’t know how pushy she was back then” he ran a hand through his hair. “But then after that night she expected more and I explained to her that I was drunk as hell and I tend to get really touchy in that state and that it meant nothing to me—”
“Ouch?”
“I sugarcoated it, okay?” He squinted his eyes at you. “But she’s been very insistent since then and I’ve told her so many times that I want nothing to do with her, that I… I don’t know, my patience ran out, I can’t really be nice about it anymore”.
“I get it…” you mumbled, staring to your lap. “It must be really annoying that she won’t take no for an answer after all these years. Sorry I tried to set you up with her in a way, I didn’t know”.
Hyunjin smiled, loving how easy it was to talk to you — how you never really judged him, but tried to understand him and his choices instead.
“It’s okay…” he mumbled as well. “Just please don’t try to leave me alone with her again, I said I wanted to stay with you back then”.
“You didn’t really say that” you argued with a smirk, having him shake his head and bring his cup to his mouth. “But I know better now, won’t do it again”.
“Thank you” he sighed in relief, and you giggled, reaching for your glass and taking a small sip of wine before you looked at him again.
“You said it was after you broke up with… Sooyun?”
“Seoyun” he corrected. “Yes”.
“I only knew about Nara. Was this before her?” You tilted your head.
“Yeah, a few months before her” he explained. “Seoyun and I dated for like three months by the end of 2021, then that thing with Dahye happened, and then I dated Nara in like middle 2022. That’s pretty much the timeline”.
“And I’m hoping Dahye stopped insisting when you got together with Nara?”
“As if” he scoffed. “Nara couldn’t stand her. It’s good that she doesn’t have my number and the only times we interact are when she tags along in our hangouts, otherwise it would’ve been so much worse than it was”.
“Next time you get a girlfriend, I say you block her on every social media”.
“I’ll block her on everything if you do the same with Mingyu” he playfully held his pinky up for you to seal the promise.
What he got instead, was a throaty laugh coming out of your mouth as you lightly slapped his hand away. “You’re an idiot”.
“I think it’s pretty reasonable, though?”
“We’ll see” you played along. “You need to get a girlfriend first in order for me to follow through”.
“I can block her right now, I don’t care” he stated, taking his phone out of his pocket.
“Stop!” You laughed, stopping him from unlocking it. “There’s no really need to just yet”.
Rolling his eyes, he let his phone fall on the couch. “You’re no fun”.
You chuckled, taking another sip as the living room fell silent and your mind went through everything you had just talked about. You surely had missed a lot.
You had missed him a lot.
“I can’t believe I never knew about Seoyun…”
“I mean, not even my sister knew back then, it wasn’t that serious…” he swirled the drink in his hand. “And we didn’t really talk that much anymore back then, so…”
“Yeah… sorry about that” you smiled bittersweetly. “It was my fault we drifted away. I’m sorry, Hyunie”.
“What do you mean it was your fault?” His eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
You shifted in your seat uncomfortably. “Mingyu didn’t like me having guy friends. Girl friends he was fine with up to a certain extent, but he just… was a little possessive”
He felt his blood boil. “You never told me that”.
“Like you said, we didn’t really talk much back then anymore” you smiled weakly. “But yeah, I didn’t see it as a problem because I was so in love with him that it made me feel good to know that he wanted me all to himself, as idiotic as it sounds, so I ended up pulling away from most of my friends. Chan was the only guy friend I kept throughout our relationship, mainly because he’s been my best friend since high school. Mingyu still was a bit wary at first but Chan’s where I drew the line”.
“Couldn’t you have drawn the line with me, too?”
Hyunjin tried to make his words come off as a lighthearted joke, but the weak tone in his voice and the hurt look in his eyes let you know he was serious, regardless of the smile adorning his mouth.
“I tried, Hyunie. I really tried” you confessed.
“You did?” His eyes softened.
“Mhm…” you ran a hand through your hair. “You mean a lot to me, I loved the way our friendship was back then, but Mingyu just had this… he was convinced you had a thing for me, and he would go on and on about it”.
Oh.
“Then again, according to him everyone had a thing for me” you rolled your eyes at the memory. “So please don’t take it to heart, I know you didn’t and it was all in his mind. I tried to reason with him plenty of times, but he just wouldn’t listen”.
“I understand…” he mumbled. “It’s okay…”
All this time, he thought he had made a good job at hiding his feelings for you. Apparently not.
Of course they would be obvious as hell to the one other person who was in love with you back then.
He hated to admit it, but he could see where Mingyu was coming from; at least when it came to him. He could’ve handled it better for sure, but he knew that if he was in Mingyu’s shoes and he knew you were close with someone who had a thing for you, he wouldn’t like it either.
“I wish I hadn’t pushed everyone away because of him…” you lamented.
“At least you still have Yeji and Chan” he tried to cheer you up.
“Yeah, but now I feel like a third wheel most of the time” you confessed rather bitterly. “It’s not their fault at all, and they do make me feel included, but that’s just how I feel. It was great before because there were four of us, but now it’s just me and ugh”.
Watching you throw your head back in exasperation, he bit his lip, staring into his glass as he debated on whether to say the words that were dancing on the tip of his tongue.
“Maybe we could…”
Your head snapped back to him, waiting for him to finish his sentence.
“Maybe we could what?” You wondered when he wouldn’t.
“Maybe we could take up where we left off?”
“Where we left off?”
“Yeah, you know… I mean, I hope it wasn’t only me, but I feel like we were really close back then? Before he came into the picture” he explained, feeling nervous as ever under your piercing stare. “Like, we’d text everyday, we’d see each other quite often too… we didn’t have to rely on Yeji to interact, and… if you’re up for it, I would like to go back to that”.
All nervousness washed away when you smiled.
Nodding your head softly, you couldn’t help the small giggle that escaped your mouth, making the pace of his heartbeats skyrocket.
“I would really love that”.
“You would?” He asked breathily.
“Mhm…” you reassured him. “I don’t know if you missed the part where I said you mean a lot to me, but I’d love for us to be close again”.
Hyunjin smiled shyly, lowering his head and begging his cheeks not to give away the beautiful mess he was feeling inside.
As if saved by the bell, your eyes went to the TV for a second, and only that took for you to jump in your place and gesture for him to take a look as well.
Fifteen seconds until midnight.
Fourteen.
Thirteen.
“Twelve minutes already?” You asked, dumbfoundedly looking at him.
Hyunjin laughed. Had you not looked at the TV in that moment, you would probably have continued talking into the next year without noticing.
Ten.
Nine.
“To pick up where we left off?” He offered a small toast, raising his glass.
Six.
You chuckled, happily nodding your head before raising your glass as well. “To pick up where we left off”.
Three. You counted together.
Two.
One.
Clinking your glasses together, the two of you gave it a poor attempt at cheering, resulting in both of you laughing as you leaned in for a comfortable hug.
“Happy new year, Hyunie” you cooed, resting your chin on his shoulder.
He smiled softly, mimicking your small action and gently rubbing his thumbs up and down your sides. “Happy new year, Y/N”.
Starting the new year together and with the promise of becoming close again, could only make the two of you excited, hopeful even, for what was to come.
Needless to say, he was not going back to the club after midnight.

When Love is Left Unspoken pt. 2 (MV)
max verstappen x reader
pt. 1 here
I could be talked into a pt. 3 if people want it
Tumblr media
It had been a week since the Austin GP and forgetting about what happened had been impossible mostly because Max would not leave you alone.
He didn't reach out directly, but every morning this week, you had woken up to a new gift outside your door. Flowers, chocolate, coffee, pastries, clothing, etc. You had no idea how he even knew your address.
You struggled with what to do. On one hand, you had missed your best friend for a long time. You missed the inside jokes, the comfort you found in him, and supporting one another. But on the other hand, you couldn't stop thinking about how he threw it all away because he was scared of loving you. You had never been scared of loving him, even if you never said. Well maybe that was hypocritical.
Saturday morning an envelope accompanied the box outside of your door. You opened the box first, revealing a vintage RedBull racing bomber jacket that cost who knows how much. It was cute, you'd give it that. Opening the envelope you froze as you read the letter that sat next to a paddock pass for the Brazil GP.
I know you hate me and you have a good reason to but I will do anything to have you back by my side even if you refuse to look at me. Please come to Brazil, I know it's your favorite track. You can stay on Checo's side of the garage if it makes you feel better.
Love, Your Max
Brazil was your favorite track and in the past you had always travelled down early to experience the culture for a bit before the racing started.
You facetimed Carmen, hoping to talk this through with someone else.
"Hey girl, what's up?" She asked, clearly in the middle of a workout.
"Oh, I can call later if you're busy," you said and she shook her head.
"No, it's okay!"
"Max invited me to the Brazilian GP," you told her slowly and her eyes widened.
"Wow."
"I know, I don't know what to do."
Carmen was silent for a little bit, clearly thinking. "Is there any part of you that wants to make up with him?"
"Yes," you admitted quietly. "But I hate myself for even thinking that. I don't want to just forget about everything that happened and take him back with open arms."
"I don't think you necessarily have to forget what happened but maybe focus on the people you both have grown to be in these last few years. Maybe treat it like you are starting over."
"So you think I should go?"
"Selfishly yes of course," she said grinning and you couldn't help but smile back. "You don't even have to spend time with him. Just see how it feels to be around him."
After hanging up with Carmen, you texted the number Max had given you for his assistant in order to get flights and a hotel figured out.
-----------------------------------
You landed in Brazil on media day and didn't plan on going to the track until Saturday. Max was pulling out all the stops even when he couldn't see you as evidenced by the ridiculously nice hotel he put you in. The view was amazing and laying on the bed was a variety of your favorite snacks and drinks with a card that read "I'm so glad you're here -your Max."
The 'Your Max' thing was working even though you hated to admit it. You spent the next two days traveling around the city by yourself and then with Carmen.
Saturday rolled around and you found yourself nervous to be at the paddock despite Carmen's constant reassurances. You hadn't seen Max yet and you weren't really sure what to say when you did.
Funny enough, the first person you ran into when you made it to the RedBull garage was Christian Horner.
"Y/n!" He said surprised to see you. "It's been a while, how are you? You know my wife is obsessed with your tik tok channel."
"Ahh tell her I said thank you," you replied kindly. "I've been doing well."
"We're glad to have you back," he said and your heart swelled. "It's been a rough year for him."
"I'm not sure I can change that," you said politely and he gave you a look.
"You just being here might," he commented before leaving you to go talk with the mechanics. You wandered around the garage, catching up with a lot of people you hadn't seen in a long time.
Max spotted you as he was coming out of his drivers' room and his heart stopped. Of course he knew you were in Brazil, but he still wasn't 100% sure you'd show up. He didn't think he should approach you so he just lingered by watching you. You felt him watching you and looked over at him, trying to control your breathing and gave him a small smile.
He smiled back before being called off to get ready for the sprint. Leaning against the back wall you pulled your headphones and settled in to watch. Max was doing pretty good, battling with Charles for most of the race. Your face appeared on the broadcast and you smiled to the camera, giving it a small wave.
After the race you checked your phone to see that you'd been tagged in countless tweets.
@.username12312: Was that y/n y/l/n in the RedBull garage? I thought her and Max had a falling out???
reply to @.usernam12312 @.user345: Yeah they haven't been friends for a long time. It had something to do with Kelly
reply to @.user345 @.username12312: oh yeah, you're right! I always liked y/n better anyways
You were amused reading the speculation and decided to stir the pot further. While Max was doing interviews you found Checo in the garage and asked him to take a picture with you. The confused man agreed and you quickly posted it to your Instagram story with the caption: My favorite RedBull driver, good luck tomorrow!
Carmen and Lily both slid up with laughing emojis and you walked back to Max's side, trying to avoid the rain. It was really coming down now and you weren't sure if they would even be able to go out on the track. You found Max a little while later sitting against the wall, legs sprawled out in front of him. You sunk down next to him, holding your knees into your chest.
"Think you'll be able to go out there today?" You asked casually and he looked over at you, clearly excited to hear you speaking to him.
"I would say probably not," he replied. "Maybe tomorrow morning."
"How much longer until we know?"
"Another half hour would be my guess," he said. "I can call for someone to take you back if you want to leave now?"
"No, I'll wait," you said looking down at your phone. You sat in silence for a while and the rain was starting to make you very sleepy. Losing the battle with yourself, you rested your head on Max's shoulder and he stiffened.
Max smiled to himself as you dozed off and the two of you caught the attention of the cameras, the photo soon to be splashed everywhere online. Quali was called off and Max nudged you awake, reaching out to help you up.
"Ride with me back?" He asked hopeful and you nodded. You ran into George and Carmen on the way out and she gave you a knowing look to which you rolled your eyes at.
"You guys should come out to dinner with us," George said. "We're meeting up with Alex and Lily too."
You hesitated, not wanting to miss out but at the same time your social battery was dead. You could only handle so much social interaction before you were craving your warm bed to snuggle into. You started to give in and agree but Max cut you off.
"I think y/n is done being around people for the day so I'm going to take her back."
You looked at him surprised and the realization that he still knew you so well just added more fire to the internal turmoil you were facing. Bidding them goodbye, you followed Max out of the paddock and into the car he had rented for the weekend. The car ride was silent as well as the elevator ride up to your floor.
Max followed close behind you as you made your way to your room and it was starting to irritate you.
"You don't need to walk me to my room Max," you said and he looked at your sheepishly.
"I'm in the one right next to you."
"Are you fucking serious?" You asked frustrated. "I need space Max!"
"I just want you to be safe," he defended and you rolled your eyes.
"From what?" You exclaimed. "Oh yeah, your girlfriend I mean ex-girlfriend is from here. Think she's sending people after me?"
"I don't think that's funny," he said, eyes darkening. "Sue me for wanting you close to me. I'm not going to apologize for that."
"You are the worst," you bit out before shoving into your room, slamming the door.
---------------------------------------
Stepping out of the steaming shower and back into the bedroom you glanced worriedly out the window. You wouldn't necessarily say that you had a fear of thunderstorms but they tended to make you uneasy.
Trying to distract yourself you put on South Park, your favorite show to watch in a hotel, but it didn't work. After a couple of booms you were still on edge. Sighing you got up and left your room, hoping a small walk around the hotel would ease your mind. By the time you made it back, Max was leaning against the wall by your door, waiting for you.
"Can't sleep?" He asked and you nodded.
"The storms."
"You always were scared of them," he teased and you scoffed.
"I'm not scared of them!" Right as you said that, a streak of lighting flashed by the hallway's window followed by a loud crash of thunder. You jumped a little and Max smirked.
"Come on," he said gesturing back to his room. You hesitated and he sighed. "We both know you won't fall asleep alone to this."
Giving in, you followed him into his room. It was a carbon copy of yours and you were amused to see South Park playing on his tv. He climbed into his bed but you stopped short; the scene in front of you reminded you of so many times before. When you traveled with him back in the day you'd often find yourself in his room at night hanging out. You always fell asleep and woke up in his arms, neither of you ever saying anything about it.
Max sat up in the bed looking at you, he knew what you were thinking.
"Y/n," he said softly as he watched you wipe a tear from your eye.
"This is so hard Max," you said, voice breaking. "How am I supposed to just forget?"
"I don't know," he confessed. "I'm sorry."
"It's not even like you broke my heart that day," you said meeting his eyes. "You had chipped away at it for so long that there wasn't even anything left to break."
Max's heart dropped and he moved over closer to where you were standing, so that you were now eye level.
"I was so scared back then y/n," he said and you put your head into your hands. "So scared of failing that I did things I shouldn't have done, like pushing you away to protect myself."
"Protect yourself from what?" You said, looking back at him.
"Your unconditional love," he said sadly and you tried to compose yourself, taking a deep breath.
"You acted like nothing happened, I watched you move on with your life," you accused, whispering to him.
"I did not move on, I was a mess. I couldn't eat or sleep for months and I latched on to you in whatever way I could through your videos or podcast. Every picture or video you saw of me was strictly PR."
"But you never reached out, not once in these past few years," you said, starting to grow angry with him.
"Neither did you!" He exclaimed.
"That's not fair Max," you retorted, moving away from him.
"Isn't it though? You accused me of moving on but I watched you do the same. I watched your popularity grow, watched you start to travel around the world, watched you post with other guys. You didn't need me to be happy."
"I needed my best friend!" You yelled and he flinched. "I needed you to be there to call when I got a new deal! I needed you to be there to lean on when I had self doubt! You ruined everything Max. I could never be truly happy celebrating something because in the back of my mind I was thinking about how you should have been there with me!"
Max squeezed his eyes shut, sitting down on the bed.
"I don't know how to fix this schatje," he whispered and you flinched at the term of endearment. "Everything has been so dark for so long. I am okay with you hating me forever. Because even if you just look at me, it'll be a better day than what I've had."
Sniffling, you stared into his red rimmed eyes. "I want to forget about you so badly Max but I can't."
He smiled softly at you before patting the bed.
"Please sleep here tonight, it will make me feel so much better knowing you were well rested. I'll sleep on the pull out couch," he said standing up.
"Just sleep in the bed with me," you said sighing, wiping the tears from your face before climbing into the bed. Max slid in next to you, leaving a healthy distance between the two of you and you drifted off to sleep.
The sound of his alarm woke you up at 4:30 and you groaned sleepily. Max's arms were wrapped tightly around you, his head buried in your hair as he refused to open his eyes.
"Max, you have to wake up," you said and he mumbled incoherently into you. You pried his hands off your body and stood up, stretching. He watched you lazily from the bed, wondering if this was a dream.
"I'm going to go get ready and then I'll meet you back in the hallway in 30 minutes okay?" You asked him and he nodded. Leaving his room you headed back into yours to get ready for the day. Your eyes were still a little swollen from last night but that was nothing a little makeup couldn't fix.
Pairing the new RedBull jacket with a black jeans you gathered all your stuff before texting Carmen about what had happened last night. All she responded was that we would discuss it in person and sent a winky face.
Max looked more awake standing out in the hallway and you both left for the track.
Qualifying was a mess to put it simply. Crash after crash after crash. It was spiking your anxiety to watch and you were just praying that Max would make it out unscathed. He did make it without crashing, but not without controversy.
You grew furious as you watched everyone in Q2 get to finish their laps following Lance's crash except for Max and Esteban. This made him miss out on Q3 for the first time in forever. You knew he was pissed when he got out of the car and his eyes met yours for a brief second. He talked to his engineers before grabbing your hand to drag you with him to over where he had to do interviews.
Standing behind the reporter you watched him try to contain his anger.
“If a guy goes straight into the wall, it is a straight red,” he said. “I don't understand why you need to take 30, 40 seconds for a red flag to come out...”
His voice was rising as he said it and both you and the reporter braced for the impact of whatever he was going to say next. He started to say something but then looked over at you and stopped himself, taking a deep breath before waving off the question.
“I don’t care in all honesty, it is so stupid to talk about. It’s ridiculous.”
He answered a couple more questions about the race happening later and you waited patiently. Christian came to join you and gave you a knowing look.
"I told you that being here would make things better," he said with a glint in his eyes. "I'm giving you credit for him avoiding more community service."
Things got even better after that with Max winning the Grand Prix in what you could only describe as a complete masterclass.
As the celebrations wrapped up, you and Max found yourselves alone in the quiet of the garage, both still processing the day's whirlwind. He glanced at you, a hesitant warmth in his gaze.
Max reached for your hand, gently holding it, as if afraid you'd slip away again. "I'm glad you came, I've needed you here for a long time."
"I'm still not sure where we stand Max," you said unsure of how to deal with what you were feeling.
"As long as your standing next to me, I'll be okay," he said cheekily and you smiled. You knew that your relationship had a long way to go but maybe, just maybe, it was finally starting again.

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
here’s the thing: minghao isn’t stupid.
he knows better. he truly does. he isn’t some idiot stuck at a claw machine at an arcade, doesn’t keep feeding it his money while never getting any closer to winning a prize. minghao knows when to quit something, when to step away.
that’s why he broke things off with you, after all. he had thought it would be easy. the two of you weren’t in a real relationship. you weren’t like tom cruise and nichole kidman – the two of you were just fucking. no strings attached.
but of course there were strings attached. you’re the kid sister to his friend and bandmate, josh; at first minghao thought he would be fine keeping it a secret. he didn’t need to take you out on dates and show you off like you were the best thing since bon jovi. the two of you were content in each other’s arms, naked chest against naked chest, legs intertwined as you dozed off.
minghao, however, wasn’t stupid.
he knew there were strings attached to the both of you. he knew that it was a bad idea, fucking his bandmate’s little sister. every time he kissed your warm mouth, he knew he was betraying josh’s trust. it wasn’t fair of him to to that to josh, and it wasn’t fair of him to put you, josh’s sister, in a position to lie to your own brother.
so minghao took initiative and broke off the relationship.
he wasn’t stupid, and he knew the first time he would see you after breaking up with you would be hard. he knew it would be. it’s hard for real couples, for couples that hold hands as they walk down the street and talk about what to name the cat they’re going to adopt. he had imagined it would be hard, to some degree, to see you. the two of you might have steered away from such topics as rings and shared apartments and other things that left the fantasy of forever in your minds, but he knew you. he knew how you sighed after he kissed the space under your ear, he knew how you looked fresh from the shower with your face shining from the heat of the water. he knew how you looked when you concentrated on painting your toes, how you looked when you begged him to see clueless at the theater because josh thought it would be stupid and you didn’t know who else to ask.
he knew you, and perhaps that was worse than dating you.
he knew you, and you knew him, and minghao isn’t stupid but he didn’t know that seeing you again would hurt so much.
you look beautiful. you always do, according to minghao. you’re sitting on that old couch josh and him spent an hour trying to shove into the garage for their band practices. you’re wearing ridiculous clothes, baggy comfy pants and the ugly oversized sweater with the worn collar and checkers and stripes on it. you’re talking to soonyoung, hands waving excitedly as the two of you laugh. your beauty bubbles out with every breath of laughter, seems to radiate in your chest like a little star, and minghao knows that even if winona ryder was in the room with them he would still choose you as the most beautiful.
you catch sight of minghao. you shoot him a grin, large and inviting, as if he hadn’t made you cry last week. you give him a little wave. “hi, minghao!”
and then you turn back to soonyoung, your knee pressed against his.
it’s so ridiculous; he’s ridiculous. minghao feels his stomach twist, as if someone was wringing it like a wash cloth after doing dirty dishes. you’re beautiful and radiant, and you spoke two words to minghao before turning to soonyoung, as if minghao wasn’t anyone particularly special.
he can’t help but stare at you. you lift a hand, and, in a move he recognizes as you flirting because you’ve done it to him when you want him to fuck you, you tuck your hair back behind your ear. you are wearing small pearl stud earrings and immediately minghao recognizes them as the ones he bought for you a year and a half ago, right before the two of you started fucking.
you tuck your hair back behind your ear and soonyoung watches, his mouth parted a little, and minghao feels like he needs to punch something.
“funny, isn’t it?” josh says, appearing at minghao’s side. josh runs his tongue over his lip ring, pulling at the sleeves of his plaid jacket. “it looks like soonyoung’s got a crush on my kid sister.”
“yeah,” minghao says, throat tight. he watches as soonyoung edges slightly closer, his thigh now pressed firmly against yours. you don’t move away. minghao wants you to move away, or better yet, slap soonyoung.
minghao isn’t a violent person, either. he isn’t violent, nor is he jealous. but once he also had thought he was above the lure of lust, was above giving into the craving of needing your body against his, dick stuffed in your pussy and his mouth dominating yours.
maybe you just had some sort of power over him that no one else did. maybe it’s like that movie practical magic, and you’ve placed a spell on him, bewitching him.
“i think he’s going to ask her out soon,” josh carries on, as if he’s ignorant to the way minghao is one step from having a crisis. “i saw the drive-in is going to be playing jurassic park. i remember when it first came out and how much she loved seeing it at the theater. it’ll be a good chance for soonyoung to ask her on a date.”
minghao scoffs. “you know he’s scared of that movie. whenever we bring out the vhs he runs.”
josh shrugs. “if he likes her as much as i think he does, i think soonyoung will be fine.”
“and you’re okay with it?” minghao turns to josh, putting his back to you and soonyoung. “you’re totally okay with soonyoung dating your sister?”
josh shrugged, twisting his mouth a little in thought. “well. i think – i think he really likes her, you know? he’s not just gonna fuck her and leave her hanging around until he wants her again.”
minghao’s mouth sours, and he bites back a venomous remark. that’s what his relationship with you was like, wasn’t it? he has no place to try and insert himself between you and soonyoung’s blossoming relationship.
“you know how soonyoung is, though,” minghao says, despite himself. he folds his arms in front of him, drumming his fingers against his bare skin. he sees the little flower tattoo on his ring finger, the one he got after you spent an evening at his apartment drawing flowers into your lisa frank notebook with glitter pens. “he’s flighty. he’s never stayed with a chick longer than a month. what if he breaks her heart?”
josh hums. “i can’t keep her locked away in the house forever, hao. she’s grown. she can make her own decisions. and if that is soonyoung, the same soonyoung who refuses to drive without everyone wearing seatbelts and insists on someone holding his hand as he gets a tattoo, then i’m fine with that.”
minghao huffs. he walks away from josh, knowing that josh is right. you are grown and can make your own decisions. for a year and a half, that was minghao. you chose to go to his apartment, chose to get on your knees and offer your mouth. you chose to lay by his side, fingers gently tracing the vine tattoo that climbed up his left arm as minghao murmured about the future. for a year and a half you chose minghao, until he took that choice away from you.
and now you were sitting at soonyoung’s side on an old, musty couch, laughing at some stupid joke.
minghao grabbed his bass off of its stand, bringing the strap up around his neck. his fingers find the strings naturally, absentmindedly plucking out the beginning of u2’s “one”. on the body of his bass, down towards the bridge, is a strawberry shortcake sticker that you had gingerly pressed onto his instrument.
josh joins minghao, calling back to soonyoung. jihoon and vernon come through the door leading to the kitchen, each of them holding a jolt cola.
“finally,” minghao sighs, glaring at the two other men. “come on. practice started ten minutes ago.”
soonyoung stands from the couch, still talking to you. you’re looking up at him with a smile, eyes sparkling.
“kwon soonyoung!” minghao snaps. he stops playing the bass, narrowing his eyes at soonyoung. “come on! just because you have all day doesn’t mean the rest of us do. why don’t you fucking respect the rest of us and stop flirting and get the fuck over here.”
josh sucks in a breath next to minghao but doesn’t say anything. soonyoung gives you a small wave, and then he’s jogging over. he glances at minghao, murmuring a small apology.
minghao doesn’t care. he’s watching you. you lean forward, elbows on your knees, tilting your head and eyes on minghao. your sweater – that overly large, horrible sweater – is loose at the collar, and as you lean forward the hole widens and gapes and falls, giving minghao a view of the valley between your tits and the top of your black silk bra, and all that skin above it.
and he remembers. minghao remembers what it was like to press his mouth to your skin, to hold your tits in his hands and feel their weight and warmth. he remembers being between your warm thighs, remembers how soft your body was and how he always seemed to sink into it.
you stand. “well, i’ll leave you guys alone so you can practice.”
minghao watches as you leave, the hem of your sweater covering your ass. he remembers you walking from his bed wearing an overly large nirvana shirt, how the hem tapped against your ass as you walked away and to the kitchen.
and here’s the thing: minghao isn’t stupid.
he broke things off with you. he isn’t with you anymore, doesn’t have the privilege of getting horny and jealous of you. he doesn’t get to act on his frustrations when he sees you taunting him, when he sees you getting your petty revenge for breaking up with you. you’re stirring something up with soonyoung, and he doesn’t get to veto that, doesn’t get to act as if he has any say in your life.
after all, he’s the one that made sure he wouldn’t. he’s the one that made sure to draw the line between the two of you.
practice starts, and minghao is somewhere else entirely. he gets the order of the songs mixed up, starts playing basket case before live forever. he loses all of his picks and has to borrow from vernon, and his mind keeps slipping back to you.
an hour passes like that, with minghao not really there. he’s between your thighs, face pressed against your pussy; he’s in your arms, heels digging into his back as you urge him to go deeper. he’s everywhere but there, everywhere with you.
eventually minghao loses another pick, and josh sighs from the front. he goes over to the speaker and dials it off, frowning at everyone. “i’m thinking we should take a break. we’re not doing our best, and everyone seems really scattered right now. let’s break for supper and come back and really put work in.”
the others nod, turning off their instruments or, in jihoon’s case, setting down his drumsticks. “we need to get focused,” jihoon agrees, serious. “we’re not going to keep maintaining gigs if we’re fucking around like this. we need to be serious about what we’re doing. we need to be bringing our everything to every practice. none of this bullshit.”
josh nods, setting his guitar back in its case. his case, just like minghao’s, is decorated with stickers you’ve slapped on. besides strawberry shortcake there’s lisa frank, rugrats, pokemon. there’s squiggly lines and smiley faces and flowers, all the signs pointing to you.
“honestly,” joshua says, voice grave, “if, by some fucking miracle, the black rose calls back and says they want us to perform for them, i’ll have to turn them down.”
soonyoung protests, brow furrowed. “come on! this is just one practice we’ve fucked up. it’s not like we’re always fucking around. let’s just take a break, clear our heads, and come back at it. this isn’t something that needs to be repeated or stressed over.”
“i’m thinking about a triple decker pizza,” vernon says, prompted by no one. josh rolls his eyes, grinning, and the band begins to split into groups for food.
“where you wanna go?” soonyoung asks minghao. he’s blinking innocently at minghao, completely ignorant of the absolute sin going through his mind. he doesn’t know that minghao thought about punching him only an hour ago, doesn’t know he’s been fantasizing about the way your thighs felt under his fingertips while fumbling his fingers over the bass strings.
“i think i’ll just run home and grab something,” minghao lies, setting his guitar on its stand. soonyoung pouts, nodding.
minghao lingers behind the others, lying to josh about misplacing his keys and promising to lock the house behind him. you were doing your homework, josh said, and he didn’t want you to be disturbed.
minghao waits until soonyoung, whom always seems to be the last one to leave, pulls out of the driveway with vernon jamming out in the passenger seat beside him, and then he’s moving.
he knows the way up to your bedroom as if it was his own. he goes up the carpeted stairs, past the various pictures of you in flouncy dresses and huge bows as babies, past the awkward family photo with you and josh pressed shoulder-to-shoulder, wearing matching sweater vests. he flips on the mickey mouse lightswitch at the top of the staircase, and then he’s opening your bedroom door.
your room is your sanctuary. the bedroom walls are painted a soft lilac from your childhood, covered in posters from spice girls to nirvana and aerosmith. there’s beanie babies hanging over your mirror, a troll doll on your dresser. your room is littered with comics and cd cases, all of your cds stacked in small piles around the stereo. you’ve got backstreet boys playing from your stereo, and minghao doesn’t even have it in him to make a comment about it.
meanwhile, you –
you are on your bed. you’re still wearing that sweater, but that’s all. your blankets are on the floor, pillow stuffed underneath your hips. your entire lower half is bare, one leg extended out and the other bent. the room has the faint, barely-there smell of cunt, and it’s more intoxicating than any drug.
you meet minghao’s eyes sheepishly, hands smoothing down your thighs. “missed you,” is all you say, fingers slowly dragging across your thighs and towards your center.
minghao is across the room in record time, pulling off his bomber jacket and throwing it to the ground. “we don’t have a lot of time,” he says, hands pulling up the hem of his shirt to zip down his pants. “the others just went to eat.”
“then you better hurry,” you say, eyes sparkling. you don’t make any comments about him stumbling back into your bed after breaking everything off. instead you spread out your legs, your hands making quick work of your sweater and bra, and minghao falls onto your bed.
“i’ve prepared,” you say as he settles between your thighs. he can’t help but run his hands over your skin, treasuring the feel of your skin beneath his. this was his favorite place on earth, he realizes; between your thighs, skin to skin.
“you’ve prepared?” he echos, raising a brow. you nod, biting down on your lip. “been waiting for me, is that it?”
“you or soonyoung,” you say, grinning at him.
minghao scowls at you, pinching your skin between his fingertips. “shut up,” he commands you. “don’t wanna hear you say his name ever again.”
you laugh at him, reaching out. you lace your fingers around his neck, bringing his face down to yours. you press a quick, close-lipped kiss to his mouth. “sorry,” you say, voice still light and giggly. “couldn’t help it.”
minghao growls, and then he’s lacing his hands in your hair and smashing his mouth back to yours. he pries open your mouth with his tongue, delving in and reclaiming that familiar space. he can’t believe he’s gone over a week without kissing you – it’s a sin, he’s sure, to not kiss you and have you whimpering underneath his touch. it’s a greater sin to not kiss you than it is to be kissing his friend’s little sister, surely.
he sucks at your bottom lip, moving his hands down your thighs. they’re sticky on the inside, no doubt from when you prepared yourself earlier. when he moves his hand deeper between your thighs it’s wetter, warmer, stickier, and he thinks that this is a heaven of it’s own. you sigh against his mouth, and then he’s ducking his head and moving his body, mouth slipping from yours and skimming down over your chin and along your throat.
you whine, and he can’t help but chuckle against your skin. he suckles at your throat. you open beneath him so wonderfully, it’s a wonder he was ever able to separate from you at all.
minghao moves down your body, kissing each and every spot he missed. the top of the valley between your tits, the skin of your shoulder. he mouths at your nipples, slipping his hand up between your legs so his fingers brush at your pussy lips.
you shiver beneath him. he laps at one of your nipples with his tongue, fingers dipping and sliding your cunt. he doesn’t apply any real pressure,  just content with teasing you and hearing those whines and moans he missed.
“hao,” you groan out, fingers moving to his hair. you tangle your fingers in his locks, pulling softly. “hao –”
he shushes you, and then his fingers are slipping into your cunt. you moan out, head tipping back. he slips two into your hole, biting down at his lip as your pussy contracts around him, trying to suck his fingers in further, desperate for his touch.
your cunt is hot around his fingers. it’s not as tight as it would have been if you hadn’t prepared, and it’s easy for him to slide his two fingers down to the base, brushing his fingertips against your core.
“fuck,” he sighs, pressing his face against your stomach. he breathes in, inhaling your scent. you’re so wonderful. you smell wonderful, feel wonderful. he wants to devour you; he can’t imagine why he ever left you.
he slides his fingers from your cunt, drawing a high whine from your lips. minghao clicks his tongue at you, and then he’s pushing three fingers in. you shudder, cunt clenching so tight around his digits that he can’t move.
“easy, baby,” he mumbles, his free hand going to your leg. minghao pulls your leg over his shoulder, nose pressing against your thigh. he can feel your skin against his eyelash as his breathes you in here, too. “gotta be easy and good for me.”
you let out a long breath, eyes sliding shut. your cunt loosens around his fingers, and as a reward minghao moves down further between your legs. he presses his face to your cunt, the smell of your pussy surrounding him.
he knows he should hurry. he knows his band will be back soon. but that doesn’t stop minghao from running his tongue along your clit, doesn’t stop him from tasting this part of you. he missed it so much – missed your cunt, how it smelled and felt and tasted.
your thighs clench around his head, but he continues. minghao scissors his fingers in you, not focused on stretching you but instead making you feel good. he laps at your lit in broad strokes, and then he’s sucking at your little bean, a loud squeal escaping your lips.
“quiet!” he hisses, though he feels his lips twitching up at the corner. he does it again and again between licks of his tongue, feeling your body shake beneath his and little sounds of ecstasy escape your lips.
“hao!” you whine out, fingers digging slightly into his scalp. “gotta – gotta hurry, josh –”
you couldn’t manage a full sentence, high moans and squeals escaping your mouth and interrupting your words. but minghao understood all the same, and he was pressing one last kiss to your pussy before he withdrew.
he wiped his hand off on the sheets, and then he was pushing his pants and boxers down to his knees. he fisted his shirt with one hand, raising it and keep it away from your soaking cunt as he moved close.
you plant your feet on the bed, tilting your hips up for him. you’re so good, he thinks. you’re perfect. and you’re his.
minghao pressed the head of his cock against your cunt, watching as your entire body seemed to freeze in anticipation. you were so ready for him, so eager. you were biting down at your lip, eyes large and watching, and minghao couldn’t even pretend he wasn’t feeling the same way.
he crowded down over you, releasing his shirt and moving his hand to cup your face. minghao rolled his tongue into your mouth, the noises of your wet mouths meeting making his cock throb with anger.
he fucked into your cunt, a deep groan escaping you. your pussy was tight, despite preparation, but warm and wet and minghao slowly slid deeper and deeper. your body took his cock easily, as it always had, and he knew that the two of you were meant for each other.
“hao,” you moan out, lashes fluttering. you speak against his mouth, breath hot. “feels good, hao. want it. missed you so much, hao.”
“i know, baby,” he mumbles, hand sinking into your hair. he slides until his cock is buried as far as it can go within you, your pussy clamping down on his cock. he wanted to move, wanted to immediately begin fucking you. instead he held back, hand twisting in your hair. “i missed you too.”
you bite at your lip, and then you’re tightening your legs around his waist. minghao takes this as permission, and he begins drawing his hips back. the slide of his dick against your walls feels so good, feels perfect, all slick warmth that makes his toes curl and eyes flutter.
he can’t believe he left you. he can’t believe he ended this. he’s so fucking stupid –
minghao fucks back into your cunt, and it feels like coming home. he begins setting a slow, deep rhythm that makes you arch up around him, mouth wide and eyes pinched shut. he just looks at you, takes in the shape of your mouth and your lashes, just looks and adores you.
his hand moves from your hair to your ear, and he traces the shell of your ear as he grinds into you. he follows the curve, adoring. he thumbs at your earlobe, just touching you, when he touches that pearl earring.
and minghao thinks back. he thinks back to how you had tucked your hair behind your ear for soonyoung, how you had acted all cute and coy for him. how you had taunted minghao.
his hips slow to a stop, and you whine for him. for a moment he just focuses on your earrings, staring.
“you’re such a bad girl,” he growls out, and then he’s slamming back into your pussy, the sound of skin hitting skin loud. you cry out, startled, and then he’s setting a punishing, brutal pace.
“you’re so bad,” he hisses, hand moving down to your throat. he doesn’t choke you, just places his hand against your throat. “teasing me like that with soonyoung. so fucking bad. wanted me to get jealous, didn’t you?”
you whimper, eyes rolling back as he fucks you. each thrust into your cunt is wet and loud, and he fucks you knowing that you’ll feel the ache hours later.
“wanted me jealous of kwon soonyoung,” minghao murmurs, and he’s ducking his head to bite at your neck. you cry out, cunt tightening around his dick. he bites and licks and sucks, marking your neck as his.
because you are his. he was a fool to think otherwise. you’re his and he’s yours, and he’ll show kwon soonyoung.
minghao pulls out – you whine – and he flips you around. minghao moves to his knees, pulling you up and back so you’re on all fours. he enters you with a rough thrust, and then he’s resuming his hard pace, chasing out each sting of skin slapping skin, seeking that pain-pleasure.
“you’re mine,” he says, hands tight around your hips. he watches your ass jiggle with each thrust, some animalistic urge to take coming over him. “you’re mine, angel. fucking mine and no one else’s. got it?”
you nod against your pillows, arching your back and pushing back to him. you fuck back onto him, meeting each thrust, and minghao can’t help but feel satisfied.
as if you’d ever do this for kwon soonyoung. as if you’d ever let him fuck you like this, as if you’d ever give yourself over to kwon soonyoung as eagerly as you do minghao.
“you gotta cum,” minghao commands, slapping at your ass. you cry out, fingers twisting in the sheets. “gotta cum around my cock, baby. milk me.”
he reaches down, grabbing his shirt and pushing it up out of the way. his fingers slip into your cunt, fluttering around where the two of you are connected to grind down on the gummy area surrounding your clit. you whine, and only a couple of thrusts later you’re tightening around his dick.
“that’s it,” minghao says, biting down on his lip. “gush around my dick, angel. come on, cum for me.”
your moans rise in pitch as you cum, and he fucks you through it. he fucks into your pussy as it quivers, fluttering around his dick. once you’re finished, whining from oversensitivity, minghao pulls out of your pussy – your warm, tight, delightful pussy – and fucks into his hand until he’s shooting out warm stripes of cum, painting your back white. he feels fuckin amazing, adrenaline and lust and something he can’t quite name rushing through his veins.
he pants, watching as his cum taints your skin. you’re so beautiful like this, stained with him. he says as much, rubbing his hand over your ass and back.
a car honks from the street. minghao curses, and then he’s flinging himself off of the bed. he grabs his bomber jacket, hesitates, and then quickly wipes himself down.
“i’ll wash it,” you promise, and he ducks down to press a hot, open-mouthed kiss to your mouth.
“good girl,” he murmurs, moving to press a kiss to your temple. “such a good girl for me.”
he darts for the bathroom after leaving your bedroom, flicking on the goofy lightswitch. he looks in the mirror. he looks – well, he looks like he just spent the last half hour fucking someone.
but not just anyone, he thinks, grabbing his shirt and flapping it to try and get some fresh air against his skin. he spent the last half hour fucking you.
vernon looks at him weirdly as he hands minghao a few slices of pizza. “been busy?”
minghao shrugs, pressing his hair back from his face. “went jogging a bit to try and clear my mind of all it’s shit. need to bring everything to practice.”
vernon looks like he doesn’t believe minghao, but vernon, also, doesn’t care. so minghao watches as his friend grabs a soda from the fridge. “cool,” is all he says, and then vernon begins slurping at his drink.
soonyoung enters the room with his own pizza, setting it on the counter. “i made sure to get some you like,” he says to minghao.
minghao feels, slightly, like he should feel guilty towards soonyoung. soonyoung, after all, has a crush on you. and minghao just fucked soonyoung’s crush.
then again, minghao thinks, it’s soonyoung’s fault for getting a crush on you when you spend every other day getting your brains fucked out by minghao.
joshua enters his house with a large grin, holding a plastic cup in one hand. “you’ll never fucking guess who called.”
“president clinton,” soonyoung says, raising a slice of pepperoni pizza to his mouth. “wait. better yet. monica lewinsky.”
“no,” josh says, “cut it out. i’m talking about the fucking black rose club! they called! and they want us for next thursday!”
“well,” minghao says, a grin taking over his face. “it isn’t a friday or saturday performance, so the club won’t be too busy.”
“but it gets our name out there,” josh agreed, clapping vernon on the back. he looks so sincerely happy, lip ring glinting in the artificial light of the kitchen. “we’re getting on the map.”
minghao raises vernon’s soda in salute towards josh before drinking it and handing it back to vernon. “things are looking up,” minghao says.
minghao isn’t stupid. he knows they’ll need to work their asses off for the next week in preparation of playing at the club. he knows this is only one step on the mountain of success, only one step towards their goal line. he knows he’ll need to talk to you, sincerely. he knows he’ll need to apologize, knows he needs to explain everything.
yes; minghao isn’t stupid.
but, he thinks, watching as you come down the stairs, fresh from a shower, he is awfully lucky.

Spoilers for the whole book ahead in case you haven't finished! So don't read it if you haven't.
Ok so I finished The Great Gatsby and. Why do so many people think it's gay?? This isn't me being argumentative, I just genuinely don't get it. I've seen some people bring up his frequent descriptions of Gatsby as evidence but also. He describes Daisy's voice arguably as much. I'd love anyone to explain their queer reading to me because I'd love to know if I'm missing anything!
#Yo! Someone I know!#ok well even if you ignore Nick's feelings towards gatsby look at ch2- the last page or two. Tell me that ellipsis is not for gay s@x#and as for Nick/Jay I thought he was hot and cold towards him when I first read it#but he constantly talked about how attractive he was and his frustration was that he was wasting his time on Daisy#his cousin who ordinarily you'd think he would care more about#goes out of his way to help them be together even though he doesn't really seem to care for his cousin#and seems to think Gatsby could do better#but he still spends a ridiculous amount of time and effort helping Gatsby get with this MARRIED WOMAN when he knows it can't end well#because he wants to spend time with him become important to him and see him happy#and then by the second half he's full on Gatsby's side#willing to skip work and drop whatever to help him or be by his side#reassuring him that he's wonderful and that they were the problem not him (which even Nick knows is kind of a lie)#he listens to him and comforts him with genuine desire to know even though he hates doing either of those for anyone else#barely knew this guy but goes super out of his way to try to find/shame people into coming to the funeral#hates Daisy and her husband so much je can't stand to be near them thanks to what they did to him#when usually he'll just dislike someone on the inside but still act polite and go along with them#this is what's coming to mind but Tender would know better and be able to say how much of what I said is bologna#Tgg#great gatsby#book analysis

Your heels clicked loudly on the stained prison tiles . The echo of your soft footsteps trailing the narrow walls of the enclosed hallway.
Bada
That was the prisoner you were assigned to . A women who had killed more people than you'd met in your life as a doctor , a psychologist at that . So you'd met a lot of people .
Two guards trailed closely behind you , glaring warningly as the inmates who smirked as you walked past the lines of cells . A collection of whistles and cheers sounding at the mere sight of a women as attractive as yourself .
How long it had been since they'd seen one after all .
"Hey Doc...you sure you wanna take this case.. I mean , I dont doubt ya or anything but this one.. she's bad. Dangerous ."
"Now what kind of doctor would I be if I feared a little danger. She's still a patient." You smiled, ignoring the way your hairs stood as you were led deeper into the institution. The part where they held those deemed a danger to society.
Those who had a no chance of even seeing the sunlight again .
You were nervous, your heart thumping loudly in your chest when you scanned your surroundings. There weren't any cells , there were only..rooms. Fully enclosed rooms with a singular window for passing food .
Every part of you begged for you to turn and run. To not even interact with whoever sat on the other side of that door. And you froze when bright brown eyes pierced into yours . The rest of her face casted behind a dark shadow as her head tilted back . Giving you a sight to the small smirk creeping onto her features .
"Doc, I really think that-" it was another guard who spoke up . Both of them holding nothing on their features but fear . It was clear that they never ever bothered Bada . The rumours had been enough to make every guard to turn a blind eye .
"Hey its fine. Okay? This is what I do." It really was . The guard gave you a curt nod and a sigh when you clasped both of his hands in your smaller one .
Offering him a reassuring nod .
"If anything happenes , us and five other are stationed close . Good luck Doc."
You gave him a small thanks , your head held high as the door was pulled open roughly. Revealing a black/white haired women who sat in her bed against the walls , her eyebrows raising when you dared to step inside . Nodding to the guard to close the door .
"You're scared." Her deep voice rung out , keeping her euw on you as you pulled out a small chair that was tucked away near the sink.
"And how do you know, Bada?" Your tone was steady , letting out a breath when the shakiness you felt wasn't reflected in your voice .
Bada hummed, her smirks widening when you spoke to her like a normal being . To stuttering, no harshness . Just your sweet voice saying her name . "I can sense it , Doc." She loved the way you tried to hide your squirm under her gaze .
"So, Bada. Tell me something about yourself." You steered away from her accusations, holding eye contact even when she leaned forward . Taking you in from head to toe . You were hot , she liked that. You seemed to like being confident too. And God did you smell fucking delicious.
She wanted to eat you alive .
Break you .
Use you .
She really did . But you were so fascinating , and she'd only just met you . Who knew how intertaining you could be .
"I've killed people" she was blunt , eyes almost begging you to keep asking these ridiculous questions. It was making her cock twitch .
"Well Bada , that is common knowledge, dont you think? I wanna know something else... tell me a secret hmm?" You leaned forward with a smile , elbows rested on your knees as you looked to her for a response.
She reciprocated your actions, leaning forward until you felt her hot breath fan over your face . "A secret huh? Alright Doc..." she watched as your breathing sped up , using every strength in your body to not pull back . You were brave , she liked that . " I surprisingly don't wanna kill you right now ."
"I'm glad to hear that."
" I said right now , didn't say anything about later " she pushed away from you , one of her knees up to her chest when she leaned back against the concrete wall behind her . "Let me ask you something , Doctor . Are you stupid?"
Your head tilted at where this was going . You supposed to be the one asking the questions. But the conversation was two sided , this would've made things easier. " I'd like to believe not . Why do you ask ?"
"Because you really think that if I try to kill you , some measly guards would come to your rescue." She scoffed
"But you don't want to kill me . Thats all that matters."
Fair .
Bada watched as you took a quick peek down at hee files . There was something that you missed , that much was evident. "Finally found it huh?"
"I haven't found anything taht I didn't see before." You objected , glancing to the door with your lip hanging loosely between your teeth .
"Dont. Dont do that." She demanded lowly, watching with lidded eyes as you let your plump bottom lip, slick after running your tongue over it , fall back into place. Bada breathed deeply, finally looking away from you as she swallowed hard . Closing her eyes with her head rested behind her .
There was something about you that she wanted a taste of . It was driving her crazy...er" I never did anything to these doctors. They were just weak. Got scared way to fast."
"And what did you do scare them away?"
"Nothing" she spat, "they came in here acting all high and mighty, talked to me like I was beneath them. So I simply didn't bother hiding how much I wanted to strangle them . And somehow that makes me the bad guy right Doc?"
You shook your head, " No , you have a right to respect too. They should never have treated you as unequals." Lying was all was in the job description.
"Good try Doc. But you and I know thats a loud of crap," she finally peeled over her eyes back open , and you couldn't help you mind from wandering to how attractive she was in the dim light . She was for sure built, and the facial structure that made you clench your thighs. "Now , we gonna finish our game of twenty one questions or not?"
She was actually being cooperative.
"Yes we are , how about i start ?."
"I'll start." There was no room for obligation in her tone ." Whats your name?"
You contemplated whether to tell her or not , eventually you told her. Though you missed her small smile tugging at her lips when she muttered a small "cute" .
"My turn , what was your childhood like?" You watched her face grow cold , a small glare being dirctated at anything in the room but you . "Next question"
"Bada..."
"I said next question , how old are you?"
You sighed, "I'm twenty six." Her eyes widened, that was extremely young for a doctor . "Is there one good memory you have from before you killed for the first time?"
"I had twin kittens. Do you have a boyfriend?"
You were taken back by the question, mouth opening and closing a few times before you chuckled. "No . I don't have a boyfriend."
"Good"
You jumped back when the door yanked open , the guard eyeing Bada warily before nodding to you . "Your times up, Doc."
"Oh already? Could you give me a few more minutes?"
"You know how dangerous she is Doc.... we can't risk it."
"You heard the man I'm dangerous, Doctor."
You nibbled at your kips softly , and Bada fought a groan as you did exactly what she warned you not to. Standing up , you gave Bada a warm smile, the gesture making her stomach get all weird inside . "Goodbye until our next session Bada."
She only hummed , the door being shut behind you as you were led away.
It was back to darkness.
"That was more than enough light , sure. But it suddenly felt so empty without you there .
_
You couldn't get Bada off your mind when you arrived home . A part of you just really wanted figure her out . The other actually liked her company.
You must've been so sick in the head . Splashing your face with cold water as you mentally scolded yourself. What was wrong with you ? She was a criminal .
_
The next morning you walked the path that you had taken the previous day to the to Bada . This time without the guards following you .
There was only one who stood outside of the door to let you in with a small node in acknowledgement.
Badas head perked up to the fimliar clicking of those heels you wore . Her signature smirk on her face as she stared you down. "Just couldn't get enough huh Doc? Aren't you forgetting I'm dangerous?"
You took a seat , no file in hand this time . "Good morning Bada , how are you ?" " if I said better now that you're here , would that be clichè?"
You laughed, an actual laugh. A sweet one that made her heart flutter the tiniest bit while blood rushed her groin .
"Its very good to see you too. How about we get started yeah?" You paused as you collected your thoughts . "You seem to be heavily affected by people calling you... dangerous. Why?"
"Everybody is dangerous. It just takes pushing at the right buttons to get it out of them. Half of the people have done just as bad as I have yet I'm the only dangerous one . Makes so much sense right?"
She shook her head. " tell me doctor , do you really think I just happened to get caught ? That I couldn't get out if this damn place if I wanted too? Hell, tell me you reliaze that I could drop a good twenty more bodies right here , right now."
You shifted in your seat . " I think that you let yourself get caught because you're tired . Because there's a small sense of peace you get from being in here . And I think that you aren't trying to leave because you don't want to."
"You almost had it Doc. See, I was well on my way out until you came . So I might stick around for a just a little bit longer."
You heart fluttered , for you? Giving up on fighting the rational side of you as you continued to engage in a conversation. Getting Bada to slowly open up to you more .
"Do you have any friends Bada?"
"I don't consider people friends , they just exist alongside me."
"If I asked you to be your friend , what would you say?" It was routine, but you really were curious.
"I'd say you can be whatever you want to be Doc."
Another flutter
"Have you ever been inlove Bada?"
She was silent , jaw clenching as her gaze got harsh . "Next question."
"What was were they like?"
"I said next fucking question doctor ."
"And I said what was were they like? " you leaned forward , pressing for her to answer the question.
"You're stubborn aren't you? I wonder what my hand would look like around that pretty neck of yours. "She was a lot like you."
You were taken back Bada said 'she' so she dated a girl?
"What happened to her?" You knew how touchy that question would've been.
"Nothing. That bitch left"
Oh.
"I'm sorry"
She started at you in confusion, "I never said she died."
"Yes. But thats only physically. Whe she broke your hear she died to you. And that hurts just as bad ."
She was silent, studying your eyes . Trying to get a read on you. "What else do you want to know Doc?"
You were getting somewhere.
Bada found you smart . Thought that you knew a lot . Found it hot how good you were at cracking her . But it pissed her off that the one thing you didn't seem to pick up was how much it hurt to watch you leave at the end of each session.
_
A week later had led to a Monday morning where you hadn't gone to the prison. You had quite an agenda for the day that could cost you your job of you didn't get it done .
That was something Bada was obviously clueless about . It was why she thought you'd just decided to up and go after she had started liking to have you around. After she'd started opening up to you .
It was also why she was causing a fit. Yelling at the guards to get you to her. Now. That she wanted to see you . Needed to see you . A line of men laying knocked out atop of each other from being sent to 'handle' the carzed prisoner .
Would you really not come back? Would you really abandon her? It seemed like that was common with people she craved even the slightest for.
Bada's fist met the wall near her bed, knuckles bloodied as she cracked into the hard surface. Chest heaving up and down heavily when her hands reached to tug at strands of her hair .
She blinked when she heard the clicking of heels of the tiles. Immediately scowling at the unfamiliarity of them . "Who the fuck is this?".
"This is Dr.smith , she's-"
"I don't fucking care who she is . Bring me my doctor now."
Back at your flat , you dropped the piles of paper in front of you at the sound of your phone ringing .
It was a number you didn't have saved .
"Hello, Doctor y/n speaking- yes? Oh my. I-i am so sorry . Yes , I will be there right away."
What had you done?
You practically ran through the halls after parking outside the building . Finding many guards posted outside her door with guns in had . Some of them having black eyes .
"You all can go now." You panted , it was clear that you had been in a hurry. "Please."
They all shared a look , finally walking away and allowing you to slowly open the door.
"Where were you?"
"I'm really sorry Bada . I was so busy today and-" you gasped when a hand reached out to wrap around your neck . Slamming you into the wall behind you with her face buried in your neck .
Bada inhaled your floral scent , groaning to herself as her grip on your delicate skin tightened. "So you just left me here today? Am I not as important as your 9ther little patients? Is that it hm?"
Deep down , you had hurt her feelings , and she couldn't help the way she clung to you as your hand lifted to her cheek . Turning her face to look down at yours .
"N-no I promise you . You're just as important as anyone else . I would have never missed our session if I didn't have to"
"Make it up to me"
It was the perfect opportunity
"W-what?"
"Strip for me doctor." She let go of your neck , letting you catch your breath while looking at her timidly.
"Bada....."
"Why so shy doctor? We both know you want to"
You shook your head , shrinking under her gaze with a protesting whisper. " I don't know what you're talking about Bada. This is very unprofession- ahh."
Bada brought her knee up between your thighs , pressing it into your clothed clit , her lips ghosted over your ear , hit breath fanning your skin as she breathed deeply. "You can always leave if you want to. I'm used to that after all."
You shifted on your feet when your back arched. A small whime leaving your mouth when she pulled away from you and gestured to the door .
She smirked "blouse first."
You bit your lip , unbuttoning your shirt until your bra was on display. The heavy swell of your breasts causing Bada's mouth to water when she nodded to the bra.
With your eyes still on her you let your breasts spring out of their confinement. Two pert nipples pointing right at her as her dick rose. Her hand palming herself under the pair of black pants with a shiver. "C'mere"
You walked over to her on shaky legs , sitting down on her lap with your head to the floor . "Uh uh," her hand reached under your chin to force your eyes back on her . "None of this Doc"
You moaned when her tongue swirled around one of your nipples . Sucking your breast into her mouth while she palmed at the other . "These are even more perfect outside that fucking shit of yours" .
Bada watched as you shivered when she ran her finger down your belly . Cupping your clothed cunt with the jerk of her hips into your ass . "Fuck...take that off."
You hurriedly took your pants off, Bada's pupils dilating at the sight of your lace panties . "Wore this just for me hmm doc? All this for Ms. Dangerous."
Bada didn't give you a chance to respond before flipping you into the mattress they called a bed . Lifting you heel clad feet onto her shoulders with her head hovering over your pussy . Her tongue darting out to lick at the wet spot building from arousal. "You're real dirty for me doctor" she teased , glancing behind her with a chuckle. "Imagine if you get caugh."
Your eyes shot up to the small window , taking note of that vacant corridor as you per requested.
"God , you smell so fucking good.wanna devour that pretty pussy." She breathed , large hand ripping the flimsy fabric to expose your glistening folds . "Hmm so wet all for me" .
You mewled when her long tongue licked a stripe of your slit. Swirling around your clit before sloppily dipping into your hole . Her hums sending vibrations through your clit as she lapped at your dripping slick.
"Bada-" you mewled, back arching as you reached for her hair. Tugging softly with the curl of your toes when her tongue and fingers swapped places. The two joints fucking up roughly into you g-spot as she sucked noisily at your clit . "F-fuck,nngh- so good" you cried out, tears welling in the corner of your eyes as your body filled with pleasure .
"Yeah? You like that Doc? Bet you wanna get that greedy cunt stuffed right after." She grunted, your eyes rolling back in a string of muffled moans as your other hand shot up to your lips .
You oegs began to tremble, Bada's smirk growing wider and wider until she stopped her movements. Watching as you blinked at her with a sniffled whine.
"You left me . You know how much that fucking hurtb? I thought i would never see you again."
"Im-"
"You're sorry. Yeah, yeah... I know." She rolled her eyes , crawling over your body with a sigh . Using the pad of her thumb to wipe away a stray tear before pressing her lips to yours . Making you taste yourself on her tongue.
You fell deeper into the kiss , eyes closing in satisfaction as her lips moves hungrily on yours . Pulling away with a string of salvia concerns you to her .
"Let's reverse the roles yeah?" She whispered, standing up to sit in the chair that you usually sat in. "So my adorable little patient.. put these tiny fingers to work on that clit of yours . I want you to make yourself cum."
You whimpered , your fingers immediately meeting your sensitive clit with a small shiver .
"You know what to do." She encouraged. Your fingers beginning to rub small circles on the small bud before speeding up . Little gasps and moans falling past your lips as your stomach burned with heat.
Your eyes locking onto Bada's eyes as her head tilted. Just like it had the first day you met her . "Ahh, B-bada . Fuckk." You cried, head falling back with your eyes still on her . The primal look in her eyes making your insides flutter as she did nothing but watch you . Not even freeing her painfully hard cock .
"Bada- c-cant. Can't hold it." Your voice cracked, body shaking lightly as your organ washed over you .
"Yes you can"
"Nngh , cant bada . Need to let go."
She stayed quiet for what felt like an eternity , your breathing getting heavy as you desperately waited on her permission.
She leaned her head back , eyes boring into your fingers working your wet cunt before nodding . "Go ahead."
You came with a silent moan , body spasming uncontrollably as your pussy leaked onto her only of sheets.
"Dirty, dirty girl . Look at that mess." You shied away from her gaze . "And look at how hard you made me . Come fix it."
You stood on wobbly feet , barely able to balance in your heels as you fell on your knees before her. Looking at her through your lashes while pulling down her pants .
You blinked at the mere size of her bulye . She was huge. Tugging off her underwear to reveal her thick, being length. Pointing up to the sky with a fiery red tip. "Suck"
You took her past your lips , barley able to take even half of her before she hit the back of your throat . Your fist stroking all the parts of her you couldn't take .
Bada groaned , head flinging back with another strained moan at how good your mouth felt . "S-shit doc. You really got a mouth on ya." She gasped , eyes meeting yours as you attempted to take her down your throat . Your droll coating both your lips and her cock as you lewdly sucked her off.
She took your head into her hold , letting you do your own thing as she grunted with each jerk of her hips. Defined abs tensing when she grew closer to her release.
"Fuck doc, gon' shoot my cum down that tight throat of yours." She breathed. Holding you down onto her as you gagged and sputtered lightly, Bada's cock twitching before you felt the warm liquid run down your throat.
"Wish I could fuck that pussy so bad" she let go of your head , wiping a strip of her chm from your chin before pushing her fi her past your lips. Watching as you sighed in content while sucking every last drop. "Its so bad that in about one minute those guards are gonna come and get you Doc. Our session is over."
You had no time to question how she knew . Scurrying redress with widened eyes.
Bada may not had q clock . Nor was able to distinctly see the sun rise and set . But she'd learned to count seconds when you were around . She knew how much time she had with you .
"And... now."
At that very moment the door swung open. Bada having easily pulled back up her pants after giving you your seat back . Both of you oozing as professional as you possibly could.
"See you tomorrow Doc." She smiled innocently , watching as you scrambled out while avoiding her eyes.
You really fucked up now.
It was hard to keep her out of your mind before . But now , trying was futile . You'd gotten a taste and you needed . Which was why your brain would not let you close your eyes without thinking of her fucking you.
_
The next morning you bit back a whimper as you clit was caught between your rubbing thighs. You had worn a tight pencil skirt with no panties . Just for Bada .
You were thankful that the guards had compiled to your wishes of them leaving.
You wanted to stop yourself. To goback home and forget about the woman infornt of you . She may not have been dangerous to you physically. But to your heart and mind .... she'd be the death of you .
When the door closed behind you , you found yourself being pushed roughly into o the same wall as last time. Bada letting out a groan as she captured your lips on her. Kissing you so much more feverishly than yesterday.
"You dont know how much i need you . Didn't even sleep last night. " she panted, turning you around so that your chest rested against the concrete surface. "Missed you so much doc." Her voice softened, kissing down your neck while grinding up into you . Her fingers finding their way under your skirt with a smirk against your skin. " and I thought you couldn't get any dirtier.. no panties huh?"
You moaned whe she prodded at your already dripping cunt. The thought of her being enough to have gotten you soaked. "Shit- tell me what you want Doc. Let me hear you say it. " she growled lowly, ready to snap the second the word left your mouth.
"Please- please fuck me."
Bada hungrily shoved your skirt up . The fabric bunching at your his as she freed her aching cock both of you letting out a noise of satisfaction when she sunk into you, her large hands holding tightly onto your hips to pull you into her . Your back arching as your hands shot put to the wall for support .
"O-ohh God." You cried loudly, your lips parted in a shaky moan as Bada's cock rammed deeper near the entrance of your cervix. Her veins grazing at your g-spot as the fat grits stretched you to your limit .
"Nah baby, 's only me."
"Badaa- so good- ahhh." Tears pooled in your eyes, Bada's heamd reached into your hair to pull you back to her chest. Your nails clawing at the wall on front of you as she destroyed yours .
"Taking me so fucking well. Shit- pussy's so dam snug." She husked , hips snapping noisily I to yours as she funked I to yoirwalls mercilessly. Basking in the sounds of your choked screams mewls. The way you sobbed underneath her when your knees buckled.
She was fucking you so hard and deep. Better tha anything you'd felt before. Her cokc slamming into all the places that would drive you crazy .
"The day you fucking leave i will break outta here doc. And I will find you. You're mine got it?" There was a certain seriousness in her voice that made goosebumps arise on your skin. Your slate tears mixing with your drool as they ran down your flushed face .
"And when I do get outta here youre gonna have my baby doc. 'M for a fuck you again and again till I eventually give you my fuck-ing kid." Her breathing beca,e ragged . Your body rocking forward with each of her movements.
She smirked. "I've already fucked ya this dumb?" Her cock twitching inside you as your body moved with her cock like flashlight. Your vision blurred as your head grew light, dizzy. You couldn't think , every rolls of Bada's hips clouding your mind as you let an incoherent babble drip off your tongue. Shakily chanting you her name when she reached forward to your clit .
"Look at you . Look so pretty underneath ,e like this." Her free ha d snaked upto your neck, groaning loudly at the feeling of your heart beat on her skin. Pulling you up so your back rested flat against her chest , wandering lips meeting your exposed collarbone . "Let go for me"
Your body quivered as you tightened around her . Letting out a whi per like cry as you came messily on her cock. A breathy moan of her own sounding in your ear when her thrusts began to get sloppy .
"Badaaaa.. inside. Want you inside . I'm in pill." You begged , legs giving away ah she held you flush against her.
"Whatever you want doc," slowly coming to a halt as she buried herself i side your warmth , tonguedarting out to lick at your tear strained cheeks. Feeling her cock, swell as she pumped you full of her cu, . Painted your gummy walls in nothing but white .
"Looks like I'm sending you back withnmy cum dripping down your thighs." She pulled out with a groan. Her cym leaking out of your fluttering cunt in a small spurts whe she used her hands at ten flesh of your ass . "Hottest thing I've seen in a while ... After you of course."
You hummed m eyes shutting as you fell i to her . Feeling the thick substance slowly dripping down your legs while spreading over sticky folds. Bada stumbled back onto her bed with you on top of her . Your face nestling into her chest with a soft smile . "Heydoc... I love you but those guards are gonna be back soon."
"So worth it. Was the one thought branding itself into your mind as your body registered the rough, last filled fuck.
"Shit"
_
You and bada had gotten so much closer over yet another week . You had never believed in falling in love that quickly until now. You couldn't help it. You felt so ,ugh better when she was around . Seeing g her was the highlight of your day especially now that you'd convinced for longer sessions.
She felt the small ebay. You were the second person she had fallen in love with and somehow even harder . You made her heart... swell . And she was serious about busting out to start a life with you.
"So your first love. We never ever finished talking about her." You smirked, notepad back in hand as you did your job. Bada have been stealing small kisses from between every question.
"How about we forget about my first love and focus on my current one . You"

"Well? Doesn't this look perfect on me?"
Satoru did a silly twirl in front of you who were sitting on the sofá watching the boys try on the clothes you've bought. He was wearing a white sweater with blue jeans and some casual shoes, nothing too much. Still, he seemed to love it compared to the awful clothes he was wearing a few hours ago. This was comfy and smelled way better, and you knew suguru was thinking about that too from the way he just looked at his clothes with curiosity.
"Perfect as in perfectly horrible? Yeah, you've got a charm for that."
Suguru, who was wearing a simple White T-shirt with some and a pair of black cargos and boots replied, but Satoru didn't even care and just laughed it off, looking at him with a sly smile.
"C'mon, you wished you looked like me. We both know i'm the prettier one."
"Not the favorite though. Right, Y/N?"
You, who had been watching everything in silence, was once again dragged into the most ridiculous conversation for the fifh time today. You sighed.
"Right now i hate you both equally for destroying my savings."
They both smiled, Satoru's being a nervous one and Suguru's an innocent one as if he didn't even know what you meant. The blue eyed boy shrugged, acting as if it was nothing.
"It's okay, choso is probably working extra hard for you today anyways. You will get the money again, no worries."
Suguru nodded. Choso had always been like that, super hardworking and one of your best employees. Everyday he had to go to work he always leaves everything as if he'd never been there; dishes clean, magnificently wiped tables, ordered ingredients and impeccable coffee machines with no stains of spilled milk over them. He did everything with such experience, you were sure he cleaned a lot at home.
Not only that! He was really sweet, and that's maybe why Satoru and Suguru didn't really mind his presence. Satoru has always been an atenttion seeker, and he didn't like people in the house. In the other hand, Suguru was such a calm cat who didn't even care about people coming home. However, both of them seemed happy to see choso everytime he walked through the door.
Talking about Choso, you should actually text him some "thank you" text.
"Sure, sure... Suguru, can you pass me the phone?"
He nodded, grabbing it from a table and extending it to you to grab the object. However, when you reached to do so, he took it back.
"Sorry, that's not how you ask. I think i haven't heard you well."
Suguru coos with a playful tone, waiting for you to catch on. You mumbled a "really?" and looked at satoru for help, but it was to no use. He shook his head.
"My bad, can't help you on this one."
He winked at you, to which you rolled your eyes and looked at Suguru again. You extended your hand.
"Please, Suguru, may i have my phone if you're kind enough?"
"It would be my pleasure."
With that, he handed it to you. You unlocked the screen, looking over the messages until you entered choso's chat.
3 missed calls.
You though about texting him, but if it was something important then you had no time to waste. You called him back, and he picked up in almost no time.
"Hey boss."
His smooth voice sounded from the other line. Something about the way he seemed calm and not in a hurry or in danger relaxed you.
"I told you to stop calling me that, you know that!"
He laughed softly, the sound of utensils being put in the background. "He's still cleaning", you thought.
"Yeah, i may know about that. Anyways, you took long enough to call back."
"I know, sorry. Was your call important when you made it? I was busy.."
You apologize, feeling somehow guilty. He quickly reassured you though.
"No! It was fine. I can tell you now if you're not busy anymore." The sound of keys filled the silence for a second. "I just closed the café, can I come over?"
You immediately looked up, meeting Satoru and suguru with their gaze already on yours. How could he come over with those two like this? The worst part is, they didn't even seem to be worried about it. They just looked at eachother for a minute and then at you, satoru whispering a "yea, why not?" to you while choso waited for an answer. You were still debating and an awkward silence appeared.
"You don't have to say yes if i catch you in a bad moment, you know—"
You interrupted him.
"No! It's okay. You can come over, door's unlocked."
He smiled, but you didn't see it.
"Alright. I'll be there in five."
"See you, choso."
"See you too, boss."
And he hung up before you could even protest. That was fine though, because you had to talk to Suguru and Satoru about how in hell were they planning to do this. You catched their attention, and then asked right away. They looked at you as if you were dumb, like you didn't even know about them.
"Y/N, we're hybrids. We van change into those "Suguru and Satoru " Choso knows as we please."
Geto explained. You remember now, of course! They were always hiding, and the government also mentioned for you all to stay away from as many animals as possible. That made so much sense, and you almost forgot for a second.
"I kid of wanna see Choso again. It's been a while.."
This time satoru talked with certain emotion in his voice, emotion that you were quick to kill in that very moment.
"No you won't; you two are going to stay locked in my room."
Both of their faces turned pale.
"What?!"
Well, deserved.
Both hybrids looked at eachother and sighed accepting their fate. They had something to talk about anyways.
Tumblr media
You opened the door, revealing a tired looking Choso still wearing the café uniform and with a bright coloured backpack hanging behind him. He looked at you and hugged you as a greeting, and you patted his back as you hugged back. As you separated from the hug, you walked aside just for him to come inside.
" Wanna come in?"
Choso looked at you and blinked, processing what you said. Then he realized, and his mouth had an "o" saped as he did so.
"Oh..right, i said come over. Don't worry, I don't need to enter. I just came to drop this by, actually."
He took his backpack off and opened it. Now that you looked at it not only did It have a bright neon color, it also had some funny child cartoons srawing. You guessed It was from yuji, his younger brother that he loved dearly based on how many times he could talk about him in just a few hours.
"What is it? I love surprises."
The man chuckled, taking the item out of his backpack already.
"I know for a fact that you do. Here, for you."
He gave you the item, and you grabbed it. It was a rose, a black one. It was in perfect condition, somehow a little bent because of being inside of the backpack, but still pretty. You looked at choso in confused state, to which he responded.
"Some random guy thought you would be doing your shift again today as every week and left It for you. Thought it was cute and promised him to give it to you"
You hummed as you smelled the flower, it was a cute gesture. However, It was kind of creepy for someone to know your shift was today. You didn't actually mind it, since it was something easy to figure out.
"But roses mean love, aren't they too straightfoward?"
You chuckled, jokingly. Choso ran a hand through his hair, thinking about it with a smile.
"I guess you just found yourself a secret admirer then."
"Secret ? Didn't you see him?"
Choso closed his backpack as he listened to your question, debating wether to tell you or not.
"Yeah, i did. But i prefer he talks directly to you, i already did enough of the wingman role." The dark haired man looked at you again and smirked. "But hey, he was totally your type."
"Dear god Choso, just get out of my door if you were trying to set me up with some random guy all along."
He raised his hands in defeat and you both laughed. Yeah, choso was the pure breath of fresh air that you needed right now. Everything has been so stressful, and laughing with your bestfriend at the front door of your house even if it was just for a few minutes was what you needed. The rose detail made it more endearing, even if he wasn't the one who gifted it to you he still took the time to bring it.
You talked with him for a bit. About work today, the secret admirer, weird customers orders and his brother's visit at work. Right, his little brother Yuji. He was the cutest boy in the whole world, and he always passed by to get a cookie and pet the animals at your café when his brother had to work. Sometimes you had to babysit him because choso couldn't, but it was okay since he was such a sweetheart and choso's biggest pride. There wasn't a time where he wouldn't talk about him, and you found that cute about him.
"It's my time to go now. Yuuji's waiting for me to have our movie night, you know."
Choso spoke, and you smiled.
"Of course! Let me know if you need anything. And thank you for covering my shift today, Choso."
"You're welcome, it was nothing. Enjoy your night, Y/N."
Something about the way he said your name as he left was so sweet that your eyes couldn't resist but look at his figure become a shadow and finally disappear as he left the building. He always called you some stupid nickname, so it was nice to hear your name escape from his lips.
You shook your head, closing the door. Now you had two animals to take care of, so you didn't have any time to waste in such irrelevant things. The roses in your hands were left in a pretty jar you had even if you didn't know who gave them to you, they were still too pretty to just throw them out. Yes, you would actually love to know who gave them to you, but it was okay. Choso would tell you sooner or later if you insisted enough anyways, so the main focus right now was your pets.
You walked through the hall, they were supposed to be in your room sleeping, playing or fighting eachother at this moment. As you opened the door and scanned the room, you found out something.
They were nowhere to be found.
Trying to be logical, you looked around the house as you called their names. It wasn't possible for them to leave the house, right? They had nowhere else to go, at least that's what you assumed since they never did this before as pets. You entered every room, looked inside the closet, bathrooms, the balcony..
"Satoru, Suguru! I swear, if this is a joke..!"
Nothing.
They were gone, and they left no trace.

Omg please I've been craving eastablished relationship sirius x fem!reader fluff I feel like i've read through the entire tag
What about rockstar!sirius who misses reader and is moping so james and remus set up a surprise and fly her out to a show and she's standing at the baracade and sirius sees her and like jumps off the stage to go to her?
i love rockstar!sirius my beloved<3 thank you for requesting!!
.
To be frank, Sirius Black had been insufferable for the last two months.
When the band had been touring around the UK and Europe, you were able to join them at most, if not all, shows. Sirius loved having you by his side, knowing that one of his favourite people on the planet was with him whilst he did something he loved. And you loved watching your boy thrive in his element.
However, when the tour moved to North America, you were unable to follow.
Despite his insistence that he had more than enough money to take care of you both (and let you be his full time favourite groupie), he knew how much your degree meant to you and he wouldn’t ever want you to drop your dreams when you supported his so much. So, you had stayed in the UK to continue your education.
And Sirius was downright miserable with the distance between you.
Not that anyone would notice. To the world, Sirius Black was still going out on stage and performing like every show was his last. He was a rockstar through and through, and the world fell in love with him a little more with each performance.
But to his bandmates? They had nothing but constant whining and complaining and moping that Sirius didn’t have his girl by his side. And, to be honest, James and Remus had reached their wit’s end. They could deal with a lot, but two months of it?
No. They knew they needed to do something.
It wasn’t hard to convince you at all to fly over and visit for a short leg of the North America tour. You had been just as miserable without your boy back home. The apartment felt empty without him. And his guitars were a little dusty, which was a sight you weren’t used to. And having one side of the bed constantly cold, with his scent long faded from the pillows, it was starting to take a toll on you.
You packed a bag and made your way to the airport without a second thought, landing in Michigan the day of their show.
“This is ridiculous.”
Remus sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. “It’s just a precaution.”
“Remus, you want me to get into a suitcase,” you deadpanned, wondering if the tour had finally driven him over the edge. “I am going to suffocate in there!”
“You won’t,” James reassured you with a bright grin. “We’ve done it plenty of times. Plus, it’s just until we can get you into the venue without fans seeing and spoiling the surprise.”
And you knew he had a point.
The boys didn’t just want to fly you over and throw you at Sirius. No, they wanted to surprise him, completely knock the air out of his lungs. They didn’t want some lame reunion in a hotel room before he was rushed off onto stage and you were forced to stand backstage until the set ended.
Go big or go home, and the marauders always chose the former.
It was why you agreed to get in the suitcase, staying in the cramped space until you reached the venue. It was why you agreed to wear the oversized hoodie, despite standing amongst the fans in the ridiculously hot crowd. It was why you agreed to keep your disguise up until the first few songs passed.
And then, you threw the hood off your head and you gripped the edge of the barricade as you looked up at the stage, as you looked up at your boyfriend and took in the sight of him for the first time in two months. The tight trousers fitted around his thick thighs, the leather jacket exposing his bare and tattooed torso, the sweat gleaming like a thin layer on his skin and the messy black hair that you missed running your fingers through.
Fuck, you missed your boyfriend.
Sirius lifted his head to look away from his fretboard, his eyes on the crowd as he played the opening riff to the next song, only to stop short when he noticed a familiar face in the crowd. He blinked once, and then twice to make sure it was really you. And by that point, security couldn’t even stop him as he shrugged his guitar off and shoved it into the hands of whoever was closest to him before he hopped off the stage and made a beeline towards you.
The crowd was going wild as they watched him, the cameras were capturing every moment but you couldn’t care less as Sirius made his way to the barricade, grabbing your face and smashing his lips against yours. It was sloppy, messy and a little desperate, and probably far too much with so many eyes on you but Sirius never really cared about any of that stuff anyways.
“Fuck, I missed you so much, love,” Sirius murmured before he leaned in for another kiss and another and another. And when that wasn’t enough, he all but dragged you over the barricade, grinning wildly when you clung onto him.
“Sirius!” you gasped, your legs wrapped around his waist as his hands rested on your ass.
“God, I missed hearing you scream my name,” he muttered, unable to wipe the smile off his face as he watched you flush at his comment.
“You have a show to perform,” you murmured, nodding your head towards the stage. “I can wait.”
“Well, I can’t,” Sirius told you. “C’mon, let’s go back to the tour bus—”
“Sirius,” you laughed, though there was a hint of warning in your voice which he recognised. “Show first, then sex.”
Sirius grinned cheekily. “Promise?”
“Promise,” you smiled, leaning down and he pouted his expecting another kiss, only for your lips to brush against his ear instead. “Plus, I want us to have all the time in the world when you see the little surprise I got for you.”
Sirius gulped. “Surprise?”
“Got ‘em done just before you left,” you told him and his spine straightened in realisation. “Should be healed enough for you to play with them.”
“Show me.”
“Sirius—”
“Baby, show me or so help me, I will lose my mind,” Sirius groaned.
But you just laughed, patting his cheek as you told him there wasn’t a chance in the world you were going to flash your tits in front of everyone. He groaned as you began untangling yourself from him, making your way backstage where you would watch the rest of the show. Sirius glared at you and your stomach twisted in anticipation.
“Good luck, baby! Knock ‘em dead!”

"Dear friend," said the count rising from his seat at the long wooden table and raising his tankard, looking at his guest and the reason for the evening's banquet, "it has been a pleasure to meet you and learn from you. It fills me with sadness that you are leaving, it seems like only yesterday that you arrived and I assure you that you will be missed here. May your exploration in Vinland be prosperous and may the Gods assist you," he nodded with understanding and gratitude for his words. "To Øystein the Fortunate, son of Aarseth!" he shouted raising his mug even higher, and all present except the aforementioned mimicked him in saying the same. Then they all raised their mugs to their lips.
As he took a sip from his tankard Øystein looked straight ahead, where sat his good shaman friend, a Romanian once enslaved and freed by him, with blue eyes like his own and long blond hair. Realising that he was looking at him he looked at him too, connecting their eyes in a quick glance. They acted expressionless, but both understood each other: they were holding back laughter.
They had been at the court of Count Greifi Grishnakh for some time, at his request. And who were they to refuse an invitation from a count? He claimed to practice sorcery and divination and admitted to defeating his enemies by magic, which many considered an act of cowardice and dishonesty. The count was dishonest, not because he used magic to defeat his enemies but because it was obvious to someone like Pelle, the shaman of Øystein, that he didn't really have such powers. They quickly realised that he was a poser, in many ways. He imitated Øystein and Pelle alike, and it seems that the only one who didn't realise how ridiculous he was was himself. So insecure that he always wore his crown on his head to remind people of who he was, along with his long braids. He was a two-faced man with no clear ideas, bloodthirsty for no reason and eager for attention and approval, especially from Øystein, whom he admired because he wanted to be like him — a man who actually did something interesting and worthwhile with his life by exploring unknown lands, courageous and determined, loved and respected by all his servants for his intelligence and kindness. A good leader, a good man.
Unlike him, Øystein was no fool and even if he didn't think well of him, he knew that Greifi was a man best to have on his side. He would smile at him whenever he had to, and this was one of those times.
"Thank you very much Your Highness, you are very kind," he said raising his mug. "You move me with your words. We will miss you too," a tap on his foot caught his attention and he couldn't help but smile even wider, holding back his laughter as he tapped the man opposite him in return.
The next day he sailed back to his homeland, where the following day he would disembark with Aarseth, Pelle and a crew of 35 men he had assembled to sail on a ship he had bought. The voyage was to be an expedition to Vinland, a land his father had discovered long ago. In the end his father gave up the idea of accompanying him after he fell off his horse on the way to the harbour, an incident he interpreted as a bad omen.
"Everything will be fine," Pelle assured Øystein in a confident and reassuring tone when he asked if he should abandon the idea of going to Vinland. And while in a way Pelle made him lose his mind, he also helped him come to his senses when he needed it most.
At the port they said goodbye to their loved ones: parents, sisters, wives, children... Pelle couldn't say goodbye to anyone, not because he was far from his homeland but because all his loved ones were on the ship, accompanying him. He wasn't married and said he was quite sure that he didn't even have any bastard children. He was aware that in that society, a rural and agricultural culture, it was necessary to have offspring to secure his future, but that mattered little to him: now that he was free at last to live his life as he wished he would never be with someone he didn't love, he wanted no children, he didn't mind dying (which would make him a great viking if he had the right physique) and if he needed someone to look after him it would be someone from the community, probably a daughter of his beloved Øystein, or even himself.
Following his father's route, they docked first at a rocky and desolate place his father called Helluland. Then he docked a second time at a wooded place his father called Markland. After two more days at sea, he landed on an island to the north, and later they finally disembarked at their destination, in a green area with a mild climate and abundant salmon stocks.
They were completely alone, there were no other humans in the area and Pelle said there were no spirits either, and they found wheat that they planted themselves and maple trees with blood-red leaves, among other foods that mother nature had to offer. When they returned to Norway they would load their ship with samples of these newly found goods.
When the crew disembarked and explored the area, it didn't take them long to find the settlement his father had built years before with his men: damp, dusty huts. They tidied them up and cleaned them until they were habitable again.

It was a full moon night and Pelle was sitting cross-legged by the fireplace in the little hut he lived in with Øystein, singing in whispers in his native language while he watched the dancing flames with rapt attention and stroked Øystein's head, who was lying on the floor with his eyes closed and using his legs as a pillow. He couldn't be more relaxed, couldn't be better, couldn't be happier.
When he opened his eyes he leaned his neck a little to get a better look at his friend, who had fallen silent, probably tired of singing. Though upside down, he looked at his beautiful face illuminated by the flames and raised his dominant hand to caress his cheek, drawing his attention.
"You have bewitched me," Øystein said quietly. And he wasn't the only one in their circle who ever thought of it. Pelle might have done it to earn his freedom long ago, but what sense would it make to do such a thing to stay with his former master?
"I have done no such thing," he said confidently, smiling though a little confused at such a sudden comment, placing his hands on his cheeks and leaning back to get close to his face, brushing it with the tips of his golden hair, "why would I do that?" he asked as Øystein removed his hand from his cheek, placing it back on the ground.
"I don't know, but I don't care. I'm grateful, even," Pelle laughed and Øystein smiled even wider as he locked his eyes on the shaman's smiling lips.
He knew he could look as long as he didn't touch, but he wanted nothing more than to merge his body with his, even if it was just a short kiss. Even though he knew it was impossible because of the position they were in, he forced his forearms and leaned his back, shoulders and neck to get even closer to him, brushing the tips of their noses together.
"How do you say 'I love you' in your language?" asked the scout, now in a more serious tone that infected the shaman. "Tell me," he begged.
"...Te iubesc."
"Te iubesc," he repeated.
Pelle released his face and slid his legs back, getting up as he said they should go to sleep now. Øystein dropped to the floor, slumped but happy, savouring the moment as he brought one of his forearms to his forehead, staring at the ceiling. The shaman went to a small wooden table they had to get a vase of water and pour some on the fire, putting it out.
As winter was approaching, Øystein decided to camp there for a few months and sent out parties to explore the country. He divided his men into two parties, who took turns exploring the surrounding area. He warned that they should stick together and return when the sun went down to sleep in their settlement.
"Where is Pelle?" Øystein asked puzzled and worried, when half his men returned to the settlement after dark.
"He's not here?" Jørn asked him, just as surprised and worried.
"No," he answered, as cold and dry as the weather. There was no time to ask for explanations or look for culprits to be angry with, what he had to look for was his friend. "Grab some torches, we're going in search of him."
He knew it was unlikely in many ways, but the thought of Pelle running away from him terrified him. He could have done so long ago, when he had set him free; but he didn't, he stayed by his side.
With an Øystein deeply dismayed, twelve men divided into small groups of three went in search of him. He chose to be accompanied by Bård and Vegard. They split off in various directions in the direction they had scouted during the day, but not far from each other. With the torches they kept in visual contact.
They had not gone far when they came across the Romanian, who was heading towards the settlement very excited, gesticulating wildly, and evidently drunk.
When Øystein saw him he handed his torch to Bård and ran towards him, almost stumbling. He couldn't help but hug him, glad to find him. Bård and Vegard looked at each other in silence, with understanding at such a heartfelt reunion.
It was an open secret that Pelle wasn't normal in many ways. It was typical of his profession, which was mostly practised by women — and in the few male cases they were usually effeminate men, with mannerisms, little strength and little or no interest in women. Being like him wasn't considered a bad thing, although it wasn't considered a good thing either. Some people used ergi as an insult, but not to Pelle because he was respected and loved by all — he didn't use his magic to defeat his enemies, which made him in everyone's eyes brave, fair and honest. He was endowed with supernatural powers and they believed that by being close to him you'll get good luck, as he contained the two essences of the human being: both masculinity and femininity, with both roles in one being. He also helped them to be in touch with the Gods, he was a healer, and most important of all, Øystein clearly had a devotion to him. It was obvious the affection, respect and admiration they had for each other. And everyone knew that they slept together in the same bed when they went out to explore the world, but no one knew if they ever had sex, let alone what each other's role was in it.
Vegard alerted the others that they had found him, and they all went over to meet.
"Why, my friend," asked Øystein with his hands on his cheeks, scanning him up and down and down and up as he parted from him, "have you come so late? What made you leave your companions?!"
"Mă știți, îmi place să mă mă plimb singur și să caut animale și plante moarte" Pelle, in his state, answered unwittingly in Romanian. "Am dat peste un ciorchine de struguri, am început să mă mănânc și am pierdut noțiunea timpului, îmi pare rău."
His companions understood nothing and Øystein a little, for in the course of their friendship he had learned a few words in his language, but he didn't know enough to understand it fully, let alone being clearly intoxicated, stammering rapidly.
"Pelle, we don't understand you. Speak in our language, please," he said, clutching his hands tightly.
"Oh, right!" He laughed. "I have not gone far," he said in their language; "I have some news for you. I have discovered vines laden with grapes."
"Are you telling the truth, my friend?" Øystein exclaimed.
"I'm sure I'm telling the truth," answered Pelle, "for in my native land there were vineyards in abundance."
"All right, I believe you," he said letting go of him and wrapping one of the blond's languid arms around his shoulders, wanting to help him walk, "but now let's go home. You must rest. Fenriz, help me with him," he said, and he obeyed.
They were about to reach the settlement when Pelle threw up everything he had taken. He would be weaker than usual because of it, which Øystein was worried about, but he knew it was best to flush everything toxic out of his body.
"Let this be the last time you scare me like this, please," he said sitting down on the floor beside his bed after lighting the fireplace in his cabin. He had his right arm resting on the bed, resting his head on his fist, and with his other hand he grabbed Pelle's right hand, which was hanging down, brushing against the wooden floor.
"Sorry," he said laughing weakly, exhausted from being out all day and from the vomit he had thrown up earlier.
"I'm not laughing, you idiot," he said half jokingly, half seriously. The shock still lingered in his body, but he was glad to have found him and that he was well (as well as a thin man like him could be, after grape poisoning and a bout of vomiting).
Still holding his hand he lifted it to his lips, planting a sweet kiss on it. Pelle's smile didn't fade, and his cheeks were red though probably from the grapes.
"Come here," the shaman said as he rolled onto his side, and he obeyed lying down beside him. To his surprise Pelle curled up next to him, burying his face in his neck and using his arm as a pillow. He had his arms across their torsos, and with Øystein's free hand he decided to brush his hair away from his face and caress his cheek and chin.
"Te iubesc," Pelle whispered into his neck, almost tickling him. Øystein froze on hearing such Romanian words — he stopped caressing him, his eyes became as round as the moon and his heart raced even faster.
"Are you serious?" he asked astonished, pulling back to look at him to observe his facial expression.
"They are just words, carried away by the wind. They leave no mark."
"They leave a mark on my heart," he said taking his hand again and bringing it to his chest so that he could feel the quickening of his heartbeat.
The dark-haired man's eyes fell to his lips, and he began to move slowly towards them, but Pelle stopped him speaking and now he was the one moving backwards.
"That is no longer words Øystein, that is an act. We must not."
"No one will know. And I've done my duty anyway," he said referring to his children thousands of miles away. And he was right — homosexuality was best accepted after the men had formed a family, once the social obligation to contribute children to the community had been fulfilled.
"Once we start we can't stop," he said referring to penetration. It was thought that a man who submitted sexually to another man would do the same in other areas, that he would be a follower rather than a leader, or be on a lower social position than the other. He didn't want the status and honour of either to be tarnished.
"I do not wish to subjugate you, and I hope you do not wish to subjugate me. Even if you were still a slave, I would never force you into anything. Te iubesc."
"All right," Pelle said smiling.
"Then can I kiss you?" asked Øystein excitedly.
"You can," he answered, and as soon as he said that he brought his hand to his cheek and moved back to his lips, finally merging them after years of daydreaming and sleeping about it, proving and sealing their love once and for all.
"You were right, everything went well."

Day Before the Competition
“How are you feeling?” Danny bumped shoulders with Sam as he caught up to him in their crowded high school hallway during their ten minute break. Sam had been trying to get his oversized backpack secured back on, and stumbled a bit at Danny’s contact.
“Terrified,” he squeaked out, clutching onto one of the lockers near him to stay upright.
“Are you really?” Danny suddenly looked concerned. Sam stared back at him and gave a half shrug, like he was still trying to make up his mind.
“How about you?” he asked back. Danny had trouble hiding his wide beam, which was all Sam needed to see to nod his head with a chuckle. “Obviously feeling pretty good,” he said.
“This could be our big break!” Danny’s voice rose in eager anticipation. “I mean, imagine it, Sam. We win and then get to record one of our songs to play on the radio. That would be huge!”
“We need to win first though,” Sam reminded Danny.
“Which you are gonna do,” Sam and Danny’s friend, Tom, told them as he came to their side. “I can’t wait to finally see you guys perform.”
“It does stink that your parents won’t let you come and see us at our biker bar gigs,” Danny told him.
“Right?” Tom widened his eyes. “I mean, I’m almost 18, I should be able to go to a biker bar if I want to.”
“Trust me, you’re not missing out on anything,” Sam reassured Tom. “It’s a bunch of people who are tired of life. It’s actually kinda depressing, you know, when they aren’t pounding each others’ faces in.”
“That’s the kind of action I want to catch though!” Tom protested.
Their other friend, Leah, joined the group. “What kind of action are you looking to catch?” she smirked at Tom. His face immediately flushed scarlet, which left Danny and Sam laughing loud. Leah turned to them both once they were done ridiculing Tom and put her hands in her pockets, like she wasn’t sure what to do with them. “I’m gonna be driving a full car out to the fields tomorrow,” she shared. “We’re all really looking forward to seeing your band play.”
“Who all is coming?” Sam asked around. As nervous as he was, he was pretty thrilled that he would finally be able to play in front of his friends. He could finally show them that all the time he spent in his garage with his brothers and Danny wasn’t for nothing. Leah thought it over.
“Well, there’s me, Tom, Mikey, Ash, Rachel, Ian, Chrissy, and Jay,” Leah counted out on her fingers. Everyone studied her hand and took note that she had eight fingers out.
“How many seats does your car have?” Danny had to ask. Leah let out a chuckle.
“Ian’s gonna sit in the trunk.”
“We did nose goes and he lost,” Tom clarified.
“I’m sure one of you guys could come with us,” Danny tried to think on his feet. The road out to the fairground fields was a bumpy one, and he knew for a fact that it would be torture experiencing that from the trunk of a car. Not to mention super illegal. Tom and Leah both shook their heads.
“We want to get as many people out there as we can,” Tom explained. “If we can get some more people on board, we’ll take two cars.”
“Good,” Danny breathed out, trying to get the image of Ian crammed behind a row of seats out of his head.
“Do you have a setlist down?” Leah asked between Danny and Sam. “How is this battle of the bands gonna work anyways?”
“We’re still working on the setlist,” Sam answered her first question. “We’re gonna have to figure that one out during rehearsal after class today. I can only imagine how much arguing is gonna go down between Jake and Josh over it, but we’re both used to it.”
“Unfortunately,” Danny muttered, remembering the time that Jake had hoisted Josh over his head and threatened to chuck him out the miniscule window in their garage. Danny and Sam had to de-escalate things by playing “We Are Family” on full blast and reminding Jake about the importance of brotherhood.
“You doing Free Bird?” Tom poked fun. That earned him a snort from Danny and a playful slap on the arm from Sam. “How about Stairway?” he tried again.
“You wish,” Sam chuckled.
“We have to get through three rounds before the finals,” Danny shared with his friends. Sam nodded along; this was information that Jake had drilled into their heads over the past few months. “In the first two rounds, we only get one song to impress the judges.”
“That’s when you play Free Bird,” Tom pointed out.
“We’ve got some good ones up our sleeves,” Danny promised him.
“Round three we get to play three songs, and then the finals are two bands going head to head, playing a total of five songs," Sam added.
“That sounds pretty intense,” Leah blew out a whistle. The battle of the bands was scheduled to happen over two days at Frankenmuth’s AutoFest festival, bringing in rock bands from across the state. Greta Van Fleet had been searching near and far for their big break and, after they first heard about the competition, there was a sense of excitement amongst them that this could finally be it.
“It’ll be fun,” Danny promised, wrapping his arm around Sam and pulling him in close. Sam snorted in return, but leaned into Danny’s grasp. The bell ending their break sounded overhead, and they untangled from each other. Leah and Tom parted ways, promising to check in later about plans and wishing them luck. Once they were gone, Sam looked back at Danny.
“Have you heard any more about the other bands that are supposed to be playing in this thing? You seem uncharacteristically cocky.”
“Most of the bands seem pretty inexperienced,” Danny confided. “But there’s one from Detroit to keep an eye on. They have a guitarist who seems to know his shit.”
“Jake should love that,” Sam thought aloud. Jake usually got butthurt when he was around people who could play better than him. It didn’t happen often, but when it did, you could tell Jake was seething on the inside. “What about the rest of the band?” Sam checked.
“I guess we’re gonna find out,” Danny laughed. Sam tried to laugh with him, but he struggled.
Sam wanted to go into the battle of the bands more confident than ever so they could knock it out of the park. He tried to picture himself strutting onto the decent-sized stage in the middle of the large AutoFest open field, dressed to the nines in his best flare pants, button up, and vest. All the other bands grouped around the wings of the stage would gape at Sam, Danny, and his brothers as they tore into their first song of the set, knocking everyone off their feet. And then their competitors would throw in the towel and drop out, letting Greta Van Fleet win by default. The problem was, Sam knew that would never happen. He still wasn’t super thrilled with his dad’s bass that he was stuck playing. The strings went out of tune fast, and he had a hard time wrapping his fingers fully around the neck so he could hit all of his notes. He knew that he was good at keeping a steady rhythm and flying off the rails with creative riffs where it was appropriate, but there was still doubt bubbling in his gut. Sam was just a high school senior, on the brink of graduating. He was supposed to go to college and become an engineer. The whole rockstar thing was still fairly foreign to him, even though Jake assured him it was his destiny.
Sam wished he could voice his doubts to Danny, but the way he saw his friend strut around the hallway to their science class, giving lowerclassmen high fives who wished them luck on their gig, he knew they wouldn’t see eye to eye. Danny had always wanted to do something related to music (or golf). He was on the right path. Sam wondered if maybe Josh would see where he was coming from, since he was considering putting his film career on hold if things with the band really started to pick up.
That brought some comfort to Sam’s racing mind, and was enough to get him through the rest of the school day without curling up into the fetal position and crying out for help.
*****
Once school let out, Sam met Danny at his locker and they made their way out to the front to retrieve their bikes. As they worked on opening their locks, Danny chuckled down at his bike.
“We’re seniors and we’re still riding these things to school every day.”
“It’s better for the environment,” Sam joked back. “We’re single-handedly saving the planet.”
“If we win this competition, I’m taking whatever earnings we get from radio play to get myself a nice ride.”
“I’m not sure that we’d really earn that much from radio play.”
“Just, let me dream here, Sam.”
“Okay, okay. What car would you get?”
“A Toyota Camry,” Danny grinned off into the distance, as if he was picturing the car in front of him. “Either red or blue.”
“At least you’re reasonable,” Sam couldn’t help but laugh.
They hopped on their bikes and started biking back towards Sam’s house, where Jake and Josh were sure to be waiting for them so they could get started on their band practice.
“What are you gonna do with your share of the money?” Danny called over his handlebars to Sam, who was biking just ahead of him. Sam considered Danny’s question and shook his head.
“I feel like I would be super jinxing us if I answered that.”
“It’s a hypothetical question,” Danny called back. Sam thought about it more.
“I guess,” he drew out his response, “I would probably buy a pair of birks.”
“That’s it?” Danny couldn’t hide his shock. “Those must be some expensive sandals.”
“They kinda are,” Sam looked over his shoulder to tell Danny. He felt his gut flop around in frustrated confusion. In his mind, he wanted to take that hypothetical money and put it towards his college tuition. But he wasn’t sure if that was something that Danny really wanted to hear. Danny always seemed a bit concerned when Sam made offhand comments about going out of state to study and take a break from the bass.
They squealed to a stop in front of Sam’s family house, hopped off their road bikes with ease, and rolled them to the foot of the garage door, which was opened wide. Jake and Josh were in separate corners of the space, Josh sitting with his legs crossed on the pavement, writing in his notebook while Jake tried to restring his guitar. Their heads both snapped up at Danny and Sam as they approached them.
“Have a good day?” Josh greeted them, slamming his notebook shut. Sam had quickly caught sight that Josh was brainstorming their setlists, as if preparing for battle against Jake.
“Nothing to complain about,” Danny answered back as he threw his backpack onto the couch they had all carried from Goodwill to spruce their practice space up. “It sounds like we’re gonna have a decent turnout cheering us on.”
“That’s awesome,” Jake commented. He looked back down at his guitar and twisted the peg with a grunt to get the string back in place. “If we have a lot of people backing us up, it might influence the judges to score us higher.”
“You both doing good?” Danny asked between the twins.
“I got out of class early which gave me more time to think about songs,” Josh answered with a smile. “It seemed like a bit of good luck, honestly.”
“I got these strings on discount,” Jake smirked as he continued to work. “I befriended the guy at the music store after playing some of my riffs on one of the test guitars. He was treating me like a god, so I decided to bank on that.”
“That must be really good for your obviously crippling ego,” Sam poked fun at his older brother. He was jealous of how much power and confidence Jake radiated anytime he had his hands on his guitar.
“Quit it,” Jake gave Sam a testing glance. Sam knew better than to keep pushing his buttons, especially that early into their practice session. He could start berating his bandmates after a few songs; that was when it was more acceptable to lose all decorum.
Sam joined Danny on the couch and motioned at Josh’s notebook.
“So, setlist?”
“I’ve got a few variations that we could consider, but I’m curious what you’re all thinking.”
“Edge of Darkness,” Jake started to list off, “Black Flag Exposition, Free Bird…”
“You asshole,” Josh laughed at Jake. “I’m limiting you to two solos for the competition.”
“Do you wanna win this thing or not?” Jake crossed his arms.
“Here we go,” Sam mumbled to Danny. He could tell Jake and Josh were seconds away from throwing whatever they could get their hands on at each other. For Jake, there was an old lamp within reach (which he had done before). Josh had a bowling ball close to him, which made Sam worried.
“We’re gonna win by playing together, as a group,” Danny reminded the twins. “We need to focus on showcasing our strongest songs.”
“That’s what I was thinking,” Josh’s hands uncurled from their tightened fists so he could pick back up his discarded notebook. “What if we started things off with Thunderstomp? That one usually sounds pretty good.”
“We have a five minute limit on our first song,” Jake reminded Josh. “I don’t think we can do Thunderstomp in that amount of time. I need enough space for my solo, I can’t cut that baby down. It’s when I take the crowd on a trip.”
“All right, simmer down, rock n’ roll sherpa,” Josh smirked at his brother. Jake gave him a raspberry in return, as if they were a couple of bickering toddlers.
Sam was glad that Jake was vetoing Josh’s idea. He wasn’t about to say it aloud, but there were some lines that got his fingers all twisted. Sure, he had written the part himself, but he found that, if he let his mind wander while he played, he was bound to play something wrong, which Jake could always hear. Sam really didn’t enjoy seeing Jake scowl back at him.
“We could do Fast Train Blues?” he piped up. That song had a fun bass part that he was proud of. Danny, Jake, and Josh considered Sam’s suggestion, and then looked around at each other. Finally, Jake gave in with a nod.
“That would be a good one to get the people into it. A little blues hurt no one.”
“Okay, I can see it,” Josh agreed. “We get the people thinking we’re a bluesy band and then, bam! We bust out the hard rock and blow everyone away.”
“I was actually thinking, if we make it to the second round, we should do an acoustic song,” Jake looked at Josh. Josh looked back at Jake like he was growing an arm out of his forehead.
“You? An acoustic song?” he pointed, his mouth hung open.
“What happened to Jake?” Danny looked equally surprised. “Mr. If It’s Not Plugged In, I Don’t Want It.”
“We need to show off our range,” Jake explained himself. “I also want to be the one to sing it.”
Now Josh’s eyes really bugged out. Sam could feel himself white knuckling the arm of the sofa that he was settled on. Jake knew better than to step on Josh’s toes.
“What am I supposed to do then?” Josh demanded to know. “Dance around like a monkey?”
“You’ll have a tambourine?” Jake attempted to plead his case. When met with a deep frown stretched across Josh’s face, Jake let out a frustrated huff. “If you knew how to play an actual instrument, this wouldn’t be a problem.”
“Singing is an instrument!” Josh protested.
“Ehhh…” the rest of the band countered.
Josh eyed the bowling ball next to him and seemed to be trying to work out if he had enough muscle to chuck the twelve pound ball at Jake’s head. He seemed to think better of it and instead opted to fling a tennis racket at Jake, hitting him straight in the gut. Jake keeled over but, after he caught his breath, he sent the racket flying back at Josh, missing him by a mile. Josh hopped from foot to foot pointing and cackling at Jake. That quickly came to a stop when Jake successfully got Josh in the shoulder with a can of refried beans.
“Ow!” Josh called out, clutching at his smarting wound and flopping onto the sofa between Danny and Sam.
“Are you done?” Sam asked between Jake and Josh. “I’d really like it if we could figure this out so we can get to practicing.”
“This isn’t settled yet,” Josh sternly told Sam. Then, he flopped around to face Jake, hurling the beans in his direction. It would have been a solid throw if Jake hadn’t slipped their dad’s old catcher’s mitt on while Josh was distracted, and caught the can before it could hit him in the chest.
“Why don’t you split up the song?” Danny stood in between Jake and Josh so they would stop throwing dangerous items at each other. “Switch at every verse.”
“I guess,” Jake murmured to the ground. Josh looked like he hated the idea, but didn’t protest.
“What song were you thinking of anyways?” Danny studied Jake.
“I wanna do a Fleet Foxes song,” Jake said. That seemed to get Josh to perk up.
“You’ve been listening to them?” he asked his brother, as if they hadn’t been out for each other’s blood less than a minute before. Jake looked back at him with a twinkle in his eye and nodded.
“You were totally right, they make shit that feels so raw and real at its core. I want to give them some love.”
“I told you you’d like it,” Josh told Jake. Then, he turned to Sam and Danny. “Same goes for you both.”
“Trust me, they’re heavy in my rotation,” Danny assured Josh. “Your Protector gives me chills every time I hear it.”
“This kid gets it,” Josh jutted his thumb in Danny’s direction. Then, he focused back on Jake. “So which song were you thinking? Blue Ridge Mountains? Helplessness Blues? Can I Believe You?”
“Ragged Wood,” Jake answered. Josh’s mouth formed into an “o.” “It’ll be bold to try and win an audience and judges over with an acoustic cover, but maybe that’s what we need to do to stand out.”
“Acoustic is a good way to show raw talent without hiding behind loud amps,” Sam thought aloud. He knew that for a fact because he was always scrutinizing his playing when it was acoustic. There was no hiding any of his mistakes.
“The kid is right,” Jake agreed with Sam. “We play a wholesome song to win more people over, and then we erupt like a volcano in round three. You know, if we get there and all.”
“Good, I thought you were gonna jinx us there,” Danny laughed at Jake.
“Why do you want to sing though?” Josh studied Jake. Sam could tell that Josh was still bothered that Jake wanted to take over his role in the band, even if it was only for one song. Jake tried to think carefully over his words.
“I want to challenge myself,” he replied. Danny looked at him with concern.
“Is this the best place to be doing that though? I mean, the stakes are kinda high. Maybe we would be better off playing it safe.”
“We’re a bunch of young guys,” Jake tried to defend himself. “When in history has anyone our age opted to play things safe? I think we need to go out there, guns a-blazing, and surprise not only our friends and family, but ourselves as well. We play our best when we’re testing out new things.”
“You mean when we’re stressed,” Sam spoke up.
“Kinda,” Jake’s face twisted.
“We’ll practice it a few times to see how we’re feeling,” Josh announced.
“What about the setlists for the other two rounds?” Danny asked.
“Nope,” Jake quickly interjected. “We can’t get too ahead of ourselves. We can figure it out if and when we get there. For now let’s focus on the songs we’ve got down now.”
Sam was more than ready to get practice in. It was what he had been waiting for all day. Danny, Josh, and Jake all repeatedly assured him that he was an incredible bass player, as did his friends and other family members, but Sam still had doubts buzzing around his head. Out of the rest of his band members, he felt the least experienced and, consequently, the most prone to make a mistake. He hoped that practicing for the rest of the day would kick his muscle memory into gear. That, and playing was often a good time for him to think about things. He hoped to gain some clarity on what was eating away at him concerning his future as they all plugged in their instruments and got ready to play.
“Ready for the most intense practice session of your life?” Josh called into his microphone, looking back at Danny, Jake, and Sam. Jake and Danny roared their approval and Sam gave a soft yeah. “Let’s not fuck up our futures!” Josh hollered, and then counted them in for their first run through of Fast Train Blues.
“Oh god,” Sam heaved out with worry. The music was too loud for anyone to hear him.

Sticky Note
The often unheard and silenced buzzes of Y/N’s most detested possession echoed through her bedroom loudly and not to mention proudly this morning. However, to the alarm’s dismay, it wasn’t its constant blaring that woke Y/N up.
A pounding headache, an annoying sore throat and perpetual sneezes which refused to die down, forced Y/N to get out of bed. With great difficulty, she somehow managed to make her way to the restroom. She blows her nose, washes her face with some warm water and looks at her reflection on the mirror. Her nose was red, eyes sunken, and her pale face was slightly swollen. She walks back to her bed contemplating if she should call in for a sick day.
“Okay I feel like shit right now.”
“Should I really go to work?” She asks herself while running a hand through her hair.
“What if I get nauseous at work?”
“I might faint.”
“I have a splitting headache. Which means my mind will be foggy and unclear. I might end up doing something ridiculous.”
“However…” She begins as an unreasonable thought of something, or rather someone crosses her mind.
“…there’s quite a lot of unfinished, pending work that I cannot risk missing.”
“There’s also Mr Kim…” She says as her lips curl up the slightest bit and a glint in her eyes appears and vanishes as quickly as her dilemma.
“I…” She says in deep thought.
“…am going to work.”  She finishes with a silly little smile across her face.
She went through careful consideration and rational thinking, only to choose a side that would later, disappoint her physical and mental state of well-being thoroughly. She reassured herself that she was going to work just for work. Or was she?
***
“Achoo!” Y/N sneezes for what may be the four millionth time that day. Her sneezes reverberate through the entire meeting room as the people in it gave her either concerned or uncomfortable looks. After muttering multiple excuse me-ies and sorry-ies, she thanks God for being capable of producing the most ungraceful and unignorably loud sneezes which had the potential to erupt volcanoes or create earthquakes.
A short while later, the meeting finally ends, and Y/N finds herself exiting the meeting room at the speed of light. She heads towards the restroom making sure she doesn’t make eye contact with anybody so that she doesn’t end up engaging herself in an unnecessary, oddly timed small talk while trying to suppress an obnoxious cough.
She successfully reaches the restroom, grabs fifteen tissues or so and blows out her nose. She pops a cough drop into her mouth before resting her palms on the sink’s counter and raises her head to look at herself in the mirror. She sighs and shakes her head.
‘I shouldn’t have come today.’
Aaand here we go, the infamous look of regret. If someone took a shot every time Y/N regretted coming to work today, they’d be knocked out by the end of it.
She leaves the restroom and reaches Taehyung’s office within no time. She was supposed to fax some documents which had his signatures. To her surprise and relief he wasn’t inside the office. She thought this was better because he wouldn’t have to see her in such a pathetic state. Although she knew it was unrealistic of her to expect that, since he's her boss and they see each other more often than an actual couple.
She finds the files on the coffee table and walks towards them. And as it was bound to happen, another sneeze makes its grand debut and Y/N stops to cover her nose. From the corner of her eye, she notices a hand extending out from behind her, holding a kerchief that was neatly ironed and folded.
“You alright there?” Taehyung asks and Y/N suddenly gets a tiny bit self-conscious.
She turns around, takes the kerchief, and thanks Taehyung. She wipes her nose with the light blue cotton cloth and wonders if her nose looked red or if her eyes looked drowsy.
‘I’m pretty sure there’s booger on my nose or something.’
Not enjoying the fact that Taehyung can see this vulnerable side of her, she grabs the files from the coffee table and turns towards the door.
“I only came to take these files sir. I have to fax them.” She announces in the air and starts walking.
“Wait.”
Taehyung rushes toward Y/N and stands before her.
“You didn’t answer my question yet. Are you alright?”
Y/N’s cheeks turn a light shade of red.
“Uh yes sir, I’m alright.” She assures him with a smile and a nod.
Taehyung doesn’t say anything. In fact, a small frown appears on his face. He stares at her for a few moments, observing her face.
‘There’s definitely booger on my nose, isn’t there?’
Without a disclaimer he brings his hand up and rests the back of his palm on Y/N’s forehead to check for temperature.
The colour on Y/N’s cheeks deepens as she processes what just happened. Her eyes widen slightly, and her pupils dilate. She was glad they were inside his office and the blinds on the large glass panes were closed because oh boy, if someone saw this, the hot topic for the employees’ next gossip session would undoubtedly be her.
“Oh God you’re burning up!” Taehyung exclaims in shock as he moves his hand away from her face.
“Uh- well, I feel okay sir, don’t worry.”
“What do you mean okay? Y/N you have a high fever. Why did you come to work?”
“I…” Y/N clears her throat and continues. “…took some medication in the morning sir, I’m alright now.”
Truth to be told, she was not alright. Her state was the same as before, if not it was worse. A train of thought occupied entirely with regret, stops by at her platform of peace. Disappointed with her poor choice of actions and unrealistic expectations of avoiding her boss at work, Y/N curses herself silently.
“I’m totally okay sir!” Y/N says in pretentious cheer as she lifts her hand to form a thumbs up. She swiftly exits the room before Taehyung could say a word.
***
“Why don’t we take a small break?”
Completely bothered by Y/N’s incessant sneezes, Taehyung abruptly suggests a break during the course of a meeting. He looks at Y/N who sat beside him with concern, as the employees who were scattered around the room, left one by one to have something at the cafeteria.
He gets up from his chair and walks out towards a small kitchen counter where he finds a kettle and fills it with water. After some time, he pours it into a glass, walks back to the conference room and places it on the table for Y/N.
Taehyung had eventually come to terms with the idea of deceiving Y/N, because unfortunately marriage was the only thing stopping him from living his life as the CEO of Kim Enterprises. Taehyung tried his best to be the ‘ideal dating material’ as coined by Jin and hence decided to execute any and every sweet gesture that may seem appealing to Y/N. Whether or not it was working, he had know clue.
However, the smile that appears on Y/N’s face after she noticed the glass of water might actually mean that it's working.
Pre-occupied by her sickness which had impeccable timing, she hastily mutters a 'thank you’ before, you guessed it, sneezing a few more times and sipping on the hot water.
As the water flows down her throat, she feels her sinuses clear, leaving her with a not-so-runny nose. The hot water melts the irritation in her throat away and momentarily brings her a great sense of comfort. Something which seemed impossible to attain today.
“Y/N you should take a half day.”
Y/N looks at Taehyung with a frown. When he says nothing else, she realises that he’s talking about her sickness.
“Oh sir, it’s totally alright! I’m fine.” She says with a convincing smile and dismisses his offer with a wave of her hand.
Taehyung says nothing and stares back at her.
“Besides there’s so much I have to get done. I have to go to S. A. Marketing and schedule your interview appointments, there's a training meeting later in the day, I have to proofread Minho’s correspondence and figure out Ms Rachel’s deadlines and plan accordingly for the next quarter. Oh! You also have another meeting, with Legal Corp Solutions, meaning I have to draft four reports by the end of the day.” Y/N reasoned nervously.
Taehyung closes his eyes and sighs.
“Y/N, I want you to do something more important for me. This is absolutely necessary and should be your utmost priority.”
Y/N knew what he was going to say next.
‘Go back home and rest.’
Yep, he would definitely say that. Because why wouldn’t he? A typical boss in every rom-com, who displays incongruent affection and care towards his secretary whom he barely knows. She obviously expected Taehyung to say some cliché sentences out of concern after startling her by checking her temperature earlier. She watched way too many K-dramas to predict what would happen next.
“I want you… to organise all the books and documents in my office in alphabetical order, category- wise making sure to re-arrange the files of all international deals separately, by placing them in boxes. Catalog all information from the past year and there's also a book on my desk, which I would like you to read, after which you must provide me with a detailed review of the book consisting of appropriate criticism and judgement.” He pauses to take a deep breath.
“I suggest you use my office for the entire day. Begin with the book.” He finishes with a small sly smile that Y/N failed to notice, for she was utterly nonplussed by the list of things Taehyung asked her to do.
Taehyung knew he wouldn't be able to send Y/N home. She was often adamant on her stand. However, Taehyung wasn’t going to back down just like that. He couldn’t let her do all that jazz she mentioned earlier. Which is why he assigned minimal and not to mention, useless work to keep her occupied. That way her condition wouldn't get worse than it already was. It would be boring, yes, but not as tiring. She only has to sit in his office and ‘work’. He knew it would take her all day to just finish the book.
Y/N thinks it’s some kind of a joke in the beginning and stares at Taehyung hoping that he might laugh and say “Don’t worry! I'm kidding.” However, Taehyung stares back at her with a ‘Well, what are you waiting for?’ look, after which she nods awkwardly and leaves the meeting room.
***
Y/N sits in a rubble of mess desperately trying to figure out how she would ‘catalog all the information’ from the past YEAR. She didn’t even know what kind of information she has to gather!
‘Should’ve taken a day off.’
She gave up on the book after reading four pages of it. In her dizzy and groggy state of mind she struggled just to read the introduction, let alone write a detailed review.
Channelling her inner Marie Kondo, she began segregating all the reports based on valuation, sales, investments, and finance. She works on this for a few hours making sure to carefully showcase her perfectionism despite her debilitating cold. Because that's just who she was. The kind of person to prioritize work over her deteriorating health.
Y/N flinches in fear at the sound of something other than the occasional shuffling of papers and thuds of boxes. And not to forget, her earth-shattering sneezes. She realises that the sound came from the door being unlocked and notices Taehyung walking into the office room with an IPad in his hand.
Taehyung finds her on the floor of his office, near the shelves, with papers, files, binders and what not littered on the floor. At the centre of it all, sat Y/N looking more dishevelled than ever. He mentally facepalms himself at the sight of her working tirelessly on the most useless job in the world. He expected her to get tired after arranging a few boxes and fall asleep or maybe just give up and rest. However, Y/N was oblivious to Taehyung’s foolproof plan and was determined on being the most productive person at work today.
“Oh well, hello sir.” Y/N says as she smiles with a hint of pride.
“I’m almost done…” She begins as she stands up.
“…just have to discard a few-“
“Fantastic! Job well done.” Taehyung says quickly with a meaningless smile and places his hands on his hips.
“You can go back to your desk Y/N.” He nods and gestures towards the door.
“I haven’t read the book yet sir and-“
“Aw that’s unfortunate. How about this? You can take the book, finish it today and return it tomorrow? Yes, that sounds perfect!” He finishes in one breath, grabs the book from his table hastily and urges Y/N to take it.
“Here you go.”
“Thank you, sir.” Y/N’s face falls flat. As she walks out of the room towards her desk, all she could feel was…disappointment. What was she expecting? A bone-crushing hug from her boss for cleaning his entire office for absolutely no purpose? She couldn't help but wonder why Taehyung rushed her out of his office. Or why he was so distant since the moment he heard her sneeze.
'No, he's not like that.’
The instant she finds her desk, she drops the book on it, plops herself into a chair and sighs in pain and relief. She stretches her arms out, leans back on her chair, and closes her eyes, before opening them again to look at something that caught her eye. She leans toward the desk as her forehead scrunches up in confusion. On her white wood desk, was a large coffee cup, filled to the brim with piping hot coffee. And the on the coffee cup was a bright yellow sticky note upon which a message was lettered in a familiar, pretty handwriting.
She picks up the cup to examine it closely.
Drink the coffee when it’s hot. Would help with the cold.
There are meds in the brown bag. Get some rest for now.
I’ll drop you home tonight.
Y/N’s face goes pale. And it was definitely not because of the high fever. She reads it again to make sure she read it right. A red hue appears on her face as quickly as it had faded earlier once she recognises the handwriting. Realisation dawns upon her and she understands why Taehyung rushed her to her desk. She scans the note multiple times while a grin finds its way to her face. For the first time, she didn't regret coming to work that day. She glances at the brown bag near the keyboard and takes a sip of the coffee. The hot liquid glides through her throat as she closes her eyes, sinks in her seat and groans in relief. Wanting to feel the warmth of the coffee more, she drinks the whole thing at once. Almost like a toddler who drinks milk quickly to beat their sibling at a silly little competition. She removes the sticky note from the cup and stares at it for a while, before placing it safely inside her drawer. All with a cheeky grin on her face.
She rests both her arms on the desk and lays her head on them. She thinks of how weirdly cute today was. She knew why Taehyung gave her absurd and silly tasks to keep her ‘busy’. Y/N put up with it and played along because she knew Taehyung was right. She should've taken some rest. A smile forms on her face again, when she thinks of how considerate he had suddenly become. Was it only with her? She likes to think it was. The smile only grows wider when she thinks about the sticky note. She never thought a small piece of paper with some scribbles from her boss would make her so giddy. She didn't even know if she's supposed to react that way.
Amidst contemplation, tiredness gets the best of her, and her eyes begin to feel heavier, giving in to the comforting idea of sleep. Even the substantial amount of caffeine she had a few minutes ago, doesn’t prevent her from falling into a deep slumber.
***
The warm sunlit sky starts blending into the darkness of the night. Resting against the railings of a river stood a tall man with a charming smile. The sapphire blue eyes gazed at Y/N as he extended his hand out for her to hold. She takes a step closer and places her palm in his before smiling shyly.
“Y/N.” He says in a smooth, calming tone and Y/N looks at him with anticipation.
“Wake up.”
She frowns and the man’s silhouette starts to fade. She struggles to focus on his blurring face as another, familiar person’s face sharpens. Y/N stirs in her sleep and squints her eyes to find her boss calling out her name trying to wake her up.
“Y/N, wake up.”
Upon realisation she gasps and sits up instantly.
“Good evening, sir.” She blurts out.
He chuckles and shakes his head.
“It’s way beyond evening Y/N. In fact, it’s almost ten o’clock. Come on, let me drop you home.” He says and walks towards the exit.
“Oh” Is all she manages to say as her mind tries to process all the sleep, sickness, embarrassment, and annoyance. The annoyance was due to the fact that she was almost about to have her swoon worthy romance with Brad fricking Pitt until she was woken up.
“Ugh, the onetime Brad Pitt decides to show up in my dream.” She whisper-yells in frustration while grabbing her bag and following Taehyung out of the office.
The car ride was, unsurprisingly quiet. Y/N’s unremitting sneezes finally gave up, thanks to the three-hour nap and Brad Pitt’s charming blue eyes. Both of them sat in silence and thought of how the other’s day must have gone. They barely got to see each other today.
Taehyung was relieved to see Y/N finally taking a nap after his desperate attempts to get her to rest.
Y/N was confused, to say the least. Perhaps the foggiest her mind had ever felt. Totally unprofessional and uncool was the way she’d put it. It was not the way she wanted to present herself around Taehyung.
‘NEVER go to work when sick.’ She told herself.
However, the sticky note was pleasantly surprising. The thought of the note formed a smile on her face which went unnoticed by Taehyung. Before her mind wandered off to her ‘maybe' theory, Taehyung announces abruptly.
“We’re here.”
“Oh, good night, sir.” She says and closes the door to his car.
Taehyung watches her as she crosses the road and walks into her apartment. He starts the engine, but before he drives away, something on the dashboard catches his eye.
Thank you for the coffee and medicine, sir:)
A small sentence was inscribed on a pastel pink sticky note in Y/N’s neat handwriting. A smile makes its way up to Taehyung’s face as he finds himself saving the note in his pocket before driving off in a jolly spirit.

"hi, how can i help you?" you spoke as a guy walked into the restaurant.
"table for one, please," he requested. he pulled the door closed so the cold air wouldn’t continue to go through.
"would you like to sit at a table or at the bar?" you asked him.
"a table," he replied. you nodded and looked down at the tablet screen. you clicked on a table and added a person to it. then, you grabbed a menu from the short stack next to you.
"follow me," you said to the guy with a smile. you started walking away from the host stand with the customer following you. you brought him to a table and placed the menu down on the table while he sat down. "your server will be with you shortly," you said to him.
"thank you," he smiled at you.
you returned to the host stand where one of your co-workers was looking at one of the tablets.
"i just sat someone in your section," you mentioned to your co-worker, taeyong.
"good thing i'm back from my break," he said and looked over into one half of the dining room to look at the customer. "oh, he's your type," he commented.
you glanced over at the customer, "he is, but i bet you that he has a girlfriend."
"if he's here by himself, then he probably doesn't have one," taeyong replied. "i'll go ask him."
"don't do that! you trying to make it obvious?" you quietly scolded him.
"i'm trying to get my best friend a boyfriend," he replied before realizing something, "oh shoot. i never put in someone's dessert order," he said and immediately hurried away to nearby pos system.
you rolled your eyes and shook your head while continuing to work your shift.
-
"y/n, make anything today?" one of you co-workers, ten, asked as he slung his arm over your shoulder.
"got my paycheck earlier today," you mentioned. "what are you doing here?" you asked him.
"took mark's shift. starts in a few. are you about to leave?" he asked. you nodded, "i'll walk you to your car, jungwoo already warned me about some of the regulars at the bar," he said.
"okay, thanks," you replied. another co-worker came up to you to take over your spot once they clocked in. you clocked out for the night and grabbed your stuff before you and ten walked out together. "no, you should've heard what they said before sending their food back. i thought they were going to start screaming," you said to ten while he walked you out, explaining a situation from the night before.
"people are ridiculous sometimes," ten replied as you two passed by a few cars to get to yours. "are you getting dinner?" he asked you once you got to your car.
"i'm cooking once i get home. don't worry, not instant food this time," you said, hoping to reassure him.
"okay," he smiled, "see you tuesday," he said and started walking back towards the restaurant.
"bye!" you replied. you opened your bag and started fishing through it to look for your keys. "where are they?" you mumbled out loud as you went through your bag.
"excuse me?"
you almost jumped out of your skin when you heard someone speak near you. you looked and saw the cute guy who came to eat at the restaurant.
"i'm sorry. i scared you, didn't i?" he asked, looking genuinely concerned since he scared you.
you gave a bit of a smile to him and awkwardly laughed, "yea, just a bit," you said to him.
"uh, your friend, the guy who was my waiter, he gave me your number," he mentioned.
you froze for a second, processing what he had just said. "i- taeyong gave you my phone number?" you asked.
he nodded in confirmation, "he did, but i figured i should be the one giving it to you," he said and held his hand out with something in between his fingers.
you took the item and realized that it was his receipt for tonight.
"flip it to the back," he instructed and you did so. on the back of the receipt was a message and a phone number.

"hope to see you soon," the guy said. you looked up at him and saw him smile at you before turning around and walking away from you, presumably heading to his own car.
you kept smiling as you managed to find your car keys in your bag. you unlocked your car and got inside, putting your bag in the passenger seat.
you grabbed your phone from your bag in order to text two people. the first one being to taeyong in order to thank him, and the second text to doyoung, in hopes that you would see him sooner rather than later.

Who's Sage? (Rogues! the Podcast ONE-SHOT)
Suzie’s Square was a bar that was stuck in the nastier parts of Gotham City. Not the most popular spot, especially compared to the Iceberg Lounge, but it was comfortable and small and people didn’t stare. Whether you were a regular looking fellow or a freak of nature, most people who frequented this establishment had seen it all.
It was the spot for two friends to hang out.
“So there I was, facing the jerk, and ready to throw my bike at ‘im!” Waylon Jones recounted facing Sage Treedear as he told his tale. The enbie smiled at the humour in his voice as he seemed to be recounting a more positive story.
“Did you throw it?” They asked.
“Oh you bet I did! David was the meanest kid I knew, and you know ol’ Waylon ain’t gonna take some punk’s nasty words!” The reptilian-looking man replied, sounding proud of himself. Sage’s smile widened as they took a sip of their fruity drink of choice.
“Kid had it coming,” they concurred. Waylon nodded.
“Ya don’t say! But sadly I almost got suspended. My daddy had to talk to the principal and all. A real mess, but one I look back at with a smile.” He concluded, before gesturing to them. “What about you?”
“What about me?” Sage replied, raising an amused brow.
“You got any stories you wanna share?”
Sage paused at that, trying to think of something interesting that had happened lately. But all they could think of immediately was the madness that had happened at Arkham with the lockdown, and they weren’t even present for that. However, another story came to mind as they thought about it.
“I discovered something disgusting about a rich prick – he tried to cover up the fact that he recently raped this girl.” Sage recalled, their smile fading. Waylon’s own smile vanished instantly as he looked downright vicious, though he did not scare Sage in the slightest. They smiled at that though, before taking another sip. “Don’t worry, he’s never going to hurt anybody again.”
At that Waylon smiled satisfied before he shook his head in disgust, “How anybody can do that is beyond me. What a piece of shit. Glad he’s gone.” He commented. Sage noted his frustration and exhaled through their nose in agreement.
“Gotham’s a cesspit, Waylon. It wriggles and writhes beneath the heels of the uber rich and criminals. So many different kinds of monsters thrive here and so few of their crimes go unpunished…” Sage explained, feeling tired as they nursed their fruity drink of choice.
“I hear ya,” Waylon Jones interrupted their thoughts as he sighed, “It’s tough. But ya seem to be doing alright!”
“Not anymore than I usually am…” They responded, their energy gone as they eyed the glass. Waylon didn’t speak for a moment and when he did, he sounded concerned.
“Hey Sage?”
“Hmm?”
“You’ve been taking your meds, right?” He asked. Sage looked up at him, wondering why he’d ask them that. But as they considered his question, they realised why. With a reassuring smile, they nodded.
“Yeah, I’m good, Waylon. Thanks for checking in.” Sage thanked.
“Well, now, I gotta. Nobody else looks after you, so ol’ Waylon’s gotta!” He chuckled.
Despite the ugliness of Gotham, there was a beauty to it that Sage felt had often gone unnoticed. The people who lived there were resilient as all hell, and especially their dear friend Waylon.
Sage had met Waylon when they were 19, fresh out of jail and in a horrible place mentally. Waylon had been their saviour, taking them in and making sure they got proper help. Sage knew that without Waylon, they wouldn’t have been there to enjoy the drinks they were having with the man. It was funny how life worked out – a giant reptile looking guy helping out a then twig of a person. Everyone feared him except for Sage. Not much could or would surprise them anymore. They’d lived through so much nonsense as a result of living in this ridiculous city.
“I really appreciate that, Waylon.” They said sincerely. Waylon’s smile turned sad and that caused alarms to go off in Sage’s head.
“What’s wrong?” They asked, concerned. Waylon sighed heavily.
“I uh… I had to let my ducks go…” he replied, quickly. Sage blinked in surprise before they themselves looked sad as well.
“Wait, why?” They said, obviously upset.
“It… it wasn’t fair to keep ‘em cooped up. They were getting big.” Waylon explained. Sage watched him before they realised something.
“Is that why you invited me out so early in the day?” They asked gently. He nodded wordlessly. “Oh, you poor dear…”
“Well, it was the right thing to do, ya know?” Waylon said, though despite his words being positive, his tone was anything but.
“Of course, but it’s important to grieve…” Sage expressed. The two sat in silence as the enbie tried to think of something that could cheer up their friend. With a warm smile, they leaned in to wrap an arm around his own. “Tell you what, let’s go!”
“Where we going?” Waylon asked, confused. Sage slapped a twenty on the counter before hopping off their chair.
“We’re gonna go toss some stones in the river!”
///
“I didn’t think ya were serious.”
Both Waylon and Sage sat at the bank of the Gotham river and both were chucking stones at the waters, trying to see who could do the most impressive skips. Sage smiled at his comment before tossing another flat stone, watching it skip four times before it sank.
“I always am!” Sage joked, before gesturing for his turn. He flicked the stone and it beat Sage’s skips by one. The enbie pouted with good humour as they realised that he had won this round.
“Seriously, thank you. This is a lot better than a bar right now. Quieter and less people.” Waylon expressed honestly. Sage couldn’t help but smile at that, happy to see him in even a slightly better mood.
“Definitely.” Sage agreed with a giggle.
“Waylon?”
The unfamiliar voice brought Sage’s attention above them, where a well dressed man in green looked down at Waylon. The man looked like he was rich and filthy rich too. The enbie’s smile instantly fell as they crossed their arms. It seemed the man had yet to properly acknowledge them. Waylon however looked pleased to see him.
“Hiya, Eddie!” Waylon replied. Eddie? Who was Eddie? Sage wondered internally, but the more they looked at the mysterious man, the more they felt like they had seen him before.
“What are you doing out here?” ‘Eddie’ asked. Sage instantly went into defensive mode as they stepped forward.
“Spending time with me.” They stated, eyes meeting the man with coldness. He finally seemed to realise that they were there and looked confused by their existence.
“Who’re you?” He asked bluntly. It was Waylon who intervened before Sage could spit back a rude remark.
“This is Sage, Eddie! Sage’s a good friend of mine. They use they/them pronouns!” Waylon introduced, looking at Sage to make sure he got that right. The enbie couldn’t help but smile proudly at his consideration. His energy always made them feel better.
“Oh,” Eddie replied, sounding genuinely surprised by the fact. Sage had to resist the eyeroll.
“Something wrong with that?” They asked, eyes narrowing instead, daring the man to challenge them. The man shook his head.
“No, of course not. But I have to admit that I am surprised, Waylon. People don’t usually approach you, after all.” He explained. Waylon half-smiled as he shook his head.
“That’s true. But Sage is a special case.” Waylon expressed and Sage couldn’t help but smile at that. Waylon was the sweetest person imaginable, so it was hard to imagine that Sage (and now this strange green clothed man) were his only friends.
“Well, you giving high praise is good enough in my book,” the man replied before he seemed to remember something, “Oh, where are my manners? Edward Nygma, and I use he/him pronouns.”
At that introduction, Sage’s eyes widened as they realised just why the man looked so familiar. The man in front of them was the Riddler! How on Earth was Waylon friends with the Riddler?! At Sage’s flabbergasted look, Edward looked deeply amused.
“I’m guessing you recognise the name? Kind of hard not to, after all.” He asked, to which Sage felt like punching his arrogant ass. He genuinely seemed like an absolute prick to be around, let alone the sheer amount of crimes the man had committed. They tensed up again as they wondered why he was still there.
“It’s difficult to forget the name of an awahodos such as yourself.” Sage retorted, to which Edward looked puzzled yet curious. However, it was clear he was getting bored as he turned back to Waylon.
“Why are you out by the banks, throwing stones in the river anyway?” Edward asked, sounding genuinely curious for a pretentious prick who thought he was so much smarter than everybody.
“Uh… I uh… I had to let my ducks go,” Waylon remembered, looking sad yet again. Sage placed a comforting hand on his arm. “They’s were gettin’ too big.”
“Oh, you poor–” the Riddler started before he seemed to remember that Sage was there and stopped, “But you’re… okay, right? More or less?”
“Yeh, sorta. Jus’ sad.” Waylon replied.
“I’m sure they’ll be back to see you though,” Edward tried, which made Sage pause. Was this all an act or was Edward actually being genuine?
“I sure hope so. They was good company... someone to gab at. Be nice if they came to visit.” Waylon remarked, before meeting Sage’s eyes, “Not that you ain’t great company.”
“Oh no, don’t worry, I know what you mean.” Sage reassured him. They heard Edward say something under his breath but ignored him.
“But if they forgit about me, I won’t be mad. Jus’ means they gettin’ on with their life. An’ that’s good.” Waylon continued, and Sage heard Edward continue to murmur something under his breath. He seemed to be lost in his own world.
“Sure gonna be lonely without ‘em... Haven’t seen Jon boy in a while, neither.” Waylon added. Even though Sage had no idea who ‘Jon boy’ was, if Waylon spoke fondly of him then he probably was also another friend.
“Naturally. You have an empty nest, alas.” Edward remarked, suddenly fully engaged in the conversation, which Sage found instantly suspicious as they narrowed their eyes at him. He ignored them.
“Dunno what I’m gonna do with myself, now…” Waylon finished, sounding genuinely depressed.
“We’ll figure out something for you,” Sage reassured him, choosing to return the favour of ignoring Edward as well.
“Hah! Can’t get a much stronger argument than that. Right, Waylon?” Edward rambled before getting Waylon’s attention. The Killer Croc looked over at the younger man solemnly.
“Yeah, Eddie?” He asked.
“I have a proposition for you.”
“Wha’?” Waylon asked.
“How’d you like to come on a little drive with me?” Edward asked. Now Sage was suspicious and wasn’t about to let it go.
“Where are you going?” They asked, their tone sharp. Edward was in too good a mood to register their aggression.
“Oh ho, that part’s a secret. Right now, the only detail I will impart is that it’s a long way to go.” Edward explained, before looking at Waylon, “Are you game?”
“What you need ol’ Waylon fo’?”
“You have… special skills.” Edward replied.
“I does?”
“Absolutely. Invaluable ones.”
“That like useless?”
“No, Waylon, that means that they can’t be replaced.” Sage explained sincerely. The croc man grinned.
“Heh. What you need my special skills fo’?” Waylon asked Edward.
“I’ll give you a hint - we’re going to find a friend.” Edward replied with an air of mystery to it all. Waylon’s brows furrowed as he thought about his words and Sage wondered who the friend in question was.
“Friend… friend…”
“The looming, sullen fellow? Perpetually unimpressed and glaring over his glasses like a disapproving librarian?” Edward elaborated with a smile.
“Jon boy?” Waylon asked, perking up instantly. Now that was curious, Sage thought. And they wondered yet again who Jon was.
“You got it.” Edward replied.
“Haven’t seen him aroun’. He got away?” Waylon inquired, sounding hopeful.
“I had to give him a shove in the right direction, but yes. The flight reflex that’s ingrained in people like us finally kicked in.” Edward explained.
“People like you?” Sage asked, eyes back on the Riddler yet again.
“I’m so happy the cops didn’t get ‘im.” Waylon said sincerely.
“It’s an example of conditioning, I suppose - the police sirens sound, and the criminals run for the hills.” Edward mused aloud.
“Weren’t his fault, neither. It was all because of that Bolton. Poor li’l Ikky…” Waylon mourned, and at this point Sage had finally put the pieces together of just who ‘Jon boy’ was. Their eyes widened yet again.
“The Scarecrow?!” Sage exclaimed, wondering if everybody here had lost their minds. “You guys are gonna go get the Scarecrow?!”
“Yes, absolutely. But–” Edward paused as he smiled and put a finger to his lips, “Shh. Just between us.”
“I love secrets! I won’t tell no one.” Waylon half-whispered, and Sage looked even more concerned.
“Waylon, you’re not actually considering going with this wan8daminat, are you?” They asked, hoping beyond all hopes that he’d say no.
“Well, yeah. Jon boy’s my friend, like you are. I gotta help my friends and Jon boy really needs our help.” Waylon explained, sounding sincere and wholehearted. Sage could feel their stomach drop at that, wondering just how Waylon had gotten involved with these bastards.
“Excellent.” Edward smiled.
“Wait.” Sage stopped them both as they met Edward’s gaze with a dangerous one. They didn’t trust Edward Nygma and they especially didn’t trust the man who went insane and killed half a dozen Arkham staff while on a rampage not even a few weeks ago. “If Waylon’s going, then so am I.”
“What?” Edward asked, obviously taken aback. Waylon however looked overjoyed.
“Really? You wanna go?” He asked, with a happy grin on his face. “You’ll get to meet Jon boy and–”
“Absolutely not!” Edward interrupted, “This is not a trip for just any ordinary Gothamite!”
Sage’s anger was brimming as they glared daggers at Edward for denying them. Waylon clearly noticed while Edward did not. “Uh… Eddie?”
“I will not allow you to come with us! I know nothing about you, and even if I did, you don’t look like you could do much of anything.” Edward insulted, still ranting. Sage was silent but Waylon was getting nervous and visibly so.
“Eddie…”
“Why come with us? Because you don’t trust Jon or I? Well, I guarantee that Waylon trusts us more than he trusts you–”
But before Edward could finish his sentence, a sudden pressure enveloped him as he froze. Sage’s eyes were wide with rage as they could feel the presence of Esga behind them, keeping Edward frozen and slowly applying more pressure to him. He met their gaze in horror and Sage’s eyes narrowed.
“I don’t trust you. And it’s for that reason that I will be coming. So… Do you want to finish that sentence?” They asked, voice darker. After a moment, Edward managed to shake his head and in that moment, Esga released him causing the man to fall to the ground. Waylon went to help him up as Sage watched.
“You didn’t have to go so hard on ‘im, Sage,” Waylon chided softly. Sage sighed as their anger slowly left their body and Esga retreated into the back of their mind.
“Sorry, Waylon. But I’m going whether Eddie likes it or not.” Sage replied. Once Edward was back on his feet, he shot them a small glare before he cleared his throat.
“Fine. You can come.” Edward surrendered and Sage felt a twinge of pleasure at seeing the man frustrated.
“When do we go?” Waylon asked, bringing back the topic of conversation back to what it was initially. Edward turned his attention back to Waylon and smiled.
“Meet me here at daybreak tomorrow. We have no time to waste, so we’ll need to start early.” He explained. Sage wondered why so early, but then again, if they were a supervillain on the run, they’d probably run as far away as possible.
“Aw, this is excitin’!” Waylon cheered, sounding absolutely thrilled, which did make Sage smile a bit.
“You betcha,” Edward remarked with a smile that looked genuine, “I’ll see you right here tomorrow – I have some arrangements to make. Bring any supplies you might need with you; it’s a long journey, and we’ll be gone for a few days.”
“Okay! Waylon and Sage’ll be here with our bells on.” Waylon said excited. However, Sage couldn’t help but wonder what exactly awaited them on this insane trip…

Something Good Can Work
Summary:  Tegan and Nyssa visit the Jovanka family farm. Turns out, meeting your girlfriends' parents for the first time is less scary than you may think.
(Just a quick heads up; this fic does contain some veiled references to homophobia.)
Thanks to @serenbex for suggesting the idea!
Read on FFN.                            Read on AO3.

‘I’ll keep the TARDIS parked here, and get on with repairs,’ said the Doctor, grinning cheerfully. ‘You two have a nice time meeting Tegan’s parents.’
Tegan rolled her eyes. They were stood in the middle of a field, where the Doctor had parked the blue box. A farm house was stood in the far distance, across several fields. The smell of pigs and sheep was especially pungent. Rural Australia could look picturesque, but the Jovanka family farm did not. It amazed Tegan that she had once insisted to people that it was in the outback; the outback was, at the very least, interesting to look at.
‘You better not fly off,’ she said, folding her arms. ‘I know what you’re like, Doc.’
Nyssa chuckled, linking her arm through one of Tegan’s.
‘Please be careful not to dematerialise, Doctor,’ she said. ‘You did promise to keep the TARDIS parked here until we return, after all.’
‘Yes, yes,’ the time lord said, waving his hands absentmindedly. ‘Don’t worry, I’ll be careful…’
Tegan locked eyes with Nyssa, who chuckled again. Tegan relented.
‘Okay, just make sure you are careful,’ she said. ‘I’ve still not forgiven you for ditching me at Heathrow without so much as a goodbye between me and Nyssa.’
The Doctor frowned.
‘I did apologise for that, young lady.’
‘Doc; don’t “young lady” me. My dad is in that farmhouse; I don’t need another one in the TARDIS too.’
The blonde man chuckled.
‘See you both later, then.’
‘Do you think we should tell him?’ Nyssa asked, as the two women began to make their way through the fields towards the farm house.
‘About us, you mean? Probably. It is fun seeing him try to work it out, though.’
Nyssa giggled.
She did look very pretty. The young woman was dressed in her stripy top and long skirt. In the Australian sunshine, she looked even more gorgeous than usual. At the risk of sounding like a broken record, Tegan really could not take her eyes off the woman she was holding hands with. Good grief, how was Tegan this lucky?
Nyssa presumably noticed Tegan’s staring, because her cheeks pinkened and she pressed a kiss to Tegan’s cheek.
‘You are so lovely,’ she said, giggling. ‘But you will have to stop staring; I don’t think your parents will approve.’
‘I don’t care,’ Tegan replied, squeezing Nyssa’s hand. ‘I bloody love you.’
‘I love you too, Tegan.’
Nyssa kissed her again.
As they reached the farmhouse, Tegan was overcome with nostalgia for her youth, which was ridiculous considering that she’d been living here barely a few months before. Maybe it was the novelty of being here with Nyssa?
The two women stepped onto the porch.
‘Er… shall I wait outside?’
‘What?’ Tegan turned, staring at Nyssa. ‘Why?’
‘Well…’-Nyssa’s expression turned slightly anxious-‘It might be a shock for your parents to have you back and then immediately being introduced to me as well.’
‘Oh…’ Tegan said. ‘Well, if you’re sure…’
Nyssa nodded, squeezing Tegan’s hand.
‘Just call me when you’re ready.’
‘Okay.’
Reluctantly letting go of Nyssa’s hand, Tegan knocked on the door.
No answer. That wasn’t unusual; this was a working farm, after all. Tegan’s parents were usually out and about on the farm at any given time. Tegan gave Nyssa a reassuring smile, opened the door and stepped inside.
The kitchen looked much the same as it had done the last time she had been at home. Old-fashioned table, well-maintained oven, a fridge covered in magnets and photographs, and a bunch of old wellies dotted around the doorway.
It was at this moment that a woman appeared in the kitchen doorway.
‘Tegan!’
Tegan found herself being pulled into a tight hug from her mother. Joy Jovanka had always been a force of nature and, despite their shared personality traits, even Tegan was unprepared for the full force of her mums affection. It was like being run over by a very friendly steamroller.
‘How are you, love?’ Joy said, pulling away and inspecting Tegan’s face. ‘Have you been eating properly?’
‘Mum!’ Tegan exclaimed, face already burning with mortification. ‘Yes, I have!’
‘Well, I should hope so; the last thing we heard, you were in Amsterdam to visit your cousin and then-’
‘Mum!’
Joy took a look at Tegan’s expression, before relaxing, letting out a chuckle.
‘I haven’t seen you for a while, love; you can’t blame me for worrying. I’ll call your dad; he’ll want to see you,’ she then turned to the doorway and hollered. ‘Will!’
A few moments later, Will Jovanka stepped into the room. Upon seeing Tegan, his mouth stretched into a warm smile, and he crossed the kitchen. He was a quiet man, but with a sort of steely resilience that Tegan had always respected. Picture in your head a typical Australian farmer; he was the opposite of all of that, but he was the best father Tegan could ask for. And, for what it was worth, he was an amazing farmer too.
He pulled Tegan into a hug. As always, he smelled of animal feed, but Tegan had never minded that. It was like being hugged by a golden retriever.
‘You alright, love?’ he asked, pulling away slightly. ‘They treating you alright in Europe?’
‘I’m fine, dad, really,’ Tegan said, smiling. ‘Actually; I’m… well, I’m brought someone here to see you both.’
‘Tegan…’ Joy said, slowly, a wide grin enveloping on her face. ‘You’ve never brought a girl home before.’
‘Well, this is someone pretty special,’ Tegan said, nervously.
Crossing the room, she poked her head out of the door. Nyssa was stood just outside; she swallowed anxiously. Tegan reached out and intertwined her fingers with Nyssa’s, giving a reassuring smile before leading her into the kitchen. They came to stand in front of Tegan’s parents.
‘Mum, dad… this is Nyssa.’
The Trakenite smiled nervously, as the older couple took in the sight of her.
‘Hello, dear,’ said Joy, smiling. ‘A pleasure to meet you.’
‘Thank you, Mrs Jovanka,’ Nyssa replied.
‘Oh, call me Joy,’ the older woman replied, waving a hand airily. ‘Would you like a coffee?’
‘Er…’ Nyssa said, turning to Tegan in bewilderment.
‘Maybe a tea instead, mum?’ Tegan suggested. Given Nyssa’s different physiology, it was probably safer to stick with something that they knew she could drink without issue. Knowing their luck, coffee probably made Trakenites turn bright green and develop an all-consuming desire to line-dance.
‘Righty-’o,’ Joy replied. ‘Tegan, take Nyssa into the living room; I’ll bring in the drinks in a mo. Will, gimme a hand, will you?’
Tegan’s father nodded, giving Nyssa a friendly smile as he waved them through the door.
The family sitting room likewise hadn’t changed much. There was still the various photos from Tegan’s childhood, the old television set that only worked if you whacked it on the side, and the sofa with the plastic covers still attached (with all the dust and muck around the farm, Joy didn’t take any chances).
Nyssa sat down next to Tegan on the sofa, still looking rather nervous.
‘You okay?’ Tegan whispered, squeezing Nyssa’s hand.
The younger woman nodded.
‘I’ve never done this before,’ she said, softly. ‘But I want them to like me.’
‘Nys, it’s mathematically impossible for anyone to dislike you,’ Tegan replied, grinning. Nyssa smiled, cheeks dimpling. She seemed to relax a little from Tegan’s words.
A few minutes later, Joy and Will entered the room, placing four cups of tea on the coffee table, and pulling chairs out to sit down opposite Tegan and Nyssa.
‘So…’ Joy said, smiling as she took a sip of tea. ‘You both met whilst travelling with this… Doctor, you said?’
‘Yes,’ Nyssa said, nodding as she held her mug in her hands. ‘Has… has Tegan explained?’
‘More or less, yes,’ Will said. ‘We couldn’t quite believe it at first, but… well, it would explain a lot about where Tegan was.’
‘I imagine it was something of a shock.’
Joy shrugged, cheerfully.
‘Tegan seemed to be having fun; she mentioned you quite a lot, now that I think about it.’
Tegan felt her cheeks flush as Nyssa’s eyes turned on her.
‘Oh, Tegan…’ Nyssa said, warmly. ‘You are too sweet.’
‘W-well, yes,’ Tegan mumbled. She wasn’t used to girls looking at her like that in front of her parents. ‘I missed you.’
Nyssa put down her mug, reaching out to intertwine their fingers.
‘You’ve got a lovely accent,’ Will said, speaking to Nyssa. ‘Are you from the south of England, perhaps? We used to have a sheep-hand who came from Kent.’
‘Er, no,’ Nyssa said, her voice wobbling slightly. Tegan squeezed her hand, and the younger woman seemed to take heart from this. ‘Actually, I’m… I’m not from Earth.’
Joy and Will stared at her, blinking in confusion.
‘You remember that I did explain the Doctor travelled in time and space,’ Tegan said, quickly. ‘Well, Nyssa is from another planet.’
‘Anywhere… we might see in the sky?’ Joy said, slowly.
‘Most likely not,’ Nyssa replied. ‘I am from a planet known as Traken.’
‘But… you speak perfect English?’
‘That’s the TARDIS,’ Tegan explained. ‘It translates languages automatically. Nyssa’s speaking Trakenite, but we’re hearing English.’
‘Actually,’ Nyssa said, cheeks pinkening. ‘I… I have learnt English.’
Tegan stared at her, mouth falling open.
‘What? When was this?’
Nyssa looked down at her lap.
‘It… it was while you were away,’ she said, softly. ‘I had been planning on learning the language anyway and… well, there wasn’t much else to do at that time. The Doctor was busy fixing up the TARDIS, so I had a lot of time to myself. It took me a little while to get some pronunciations right but…’
As Nyssa trailed off, Tegan’s heart ached for the younger woman. If her parents hadn’t been in the room, she would have kissed Nyssa on the mouth right there and then. Oh, god…
‘Well, you speak it beautifully,’ Joy said, smiling. ‘One of my uncles was excellent with languages, and Tegan got her way with Aboriginal dialects from him; they say the talent runs in families. I imagine your parents are probably excellent with languages too, eh?’
Nyssa suddenly went very pale, and Tegan immediately found herself gripping her hand. They hadn’t really discussed whether to disclose this with Tegan’s parents, but that had clearly been an oversight. Of course Tegan’s parents would want to know Nyssa’s background and what her family were like. But… well, Nyssa never really talked much about her family and Tegan had been worried about upsetting her girlfriend by bringing up the subject.
And now it was upsetting Nyssa regardless.
‘Mum; I don’t think you should-’
‘No, it’s fine,’ Nyssa interjected, blinking quickly. ‘My parents were both good with languages, Joy. But my mother died when I was a child and my father… well, he is no longer with us either.’
‘Oh…’
Joy’s eyes were already watering. She crossed the room and pulled Nyssa into a deep hug.
‘Oh, you poor dear,’ she said, softly. ‘I’m so sorry, Nyssa; I shouldn’t have-’
‘You weren’t to know, Joy,’ Nyssa replied, very quietly, as Joy eventually pulled away. ‘But thank you.’
Joy smiled, her hand still supportively clasped on Nyssa’s shoulder.
‘No worries. Anyway, Nyssa, has Tegan ever told you about what she like at school?’
‘Mum,’ Tegan said, very quickly. ‘I really don’t think Nyssa wants to-’
‘Oooh, no; she hasn’t!’ Nyssa said in delight, leaning forward eagerly. ‘Do you have photographs?’
‘You’re gonna love this,’ Joy said, ignoring her daughters loud groan. ‘I’ll just grab the albums…’
‘Muuum!’ Tegan exclaimed, her head in her hands. She could hear the tell-tale signs of the photo albums being pulled from the bookcase. ‘Stop it!’
‘Oh, stop fussing, Tegan,’ Joy said, as she sat down on Nyssa’s other side with the photo album in her lap. Will let out a chortle. ‘Now, Nyssa, this is Tegan’s photo from when she finished boarding school; I always thought the sailor-suit looked lovely on her…’
                                                            *
It was that evening. After that mortifying journey down memory lane, Tegan had spent most of the afternoon showing Nyssa the rest of the farm. There was no-one else around, and the weather wasn’t too hot, so it was perfect for giving the younger woman a tour. After returning to the farmhouse for dinner, the two women had spent a quiet evening watching television with Will and Joy. Around 9pm, Nyssa had started yawning, so Joyce had recommended that both Nyssa and Tegan turn in for the night. Nyssa had gone to Tegan’s bedroom to change into pyjamas.
Tegan was quickly finishing up a biscuit when her father called her into the kitchen.
‘Tegan, I think we need to have a talk,’ Will said, and Tegan -expecting an observation based on that evenings television- turned at the serious tone in his voice. ‘You and Nyssa are sharing a room after all.’
Tegan chuckled, bemused.
‘Dad, me and Nys share a room on the TARDIS-’
‘That’s not what I mean,’ Will continued. ‘Tegan; you remember when, before you left for boarding school, your mother talked to you about the birds and the bees-’
‘Oh, god!’ Tegan exclaimed, facing turning crimson. ‘Dad, we are not discussing this.’
‘Yes, we are, Tegan. You and Nyssa are very close, but you need to make sure you’re taking precautions. So that neither of you ends up pregnant before you’re ready for-’
‘We’re both women, dad!’ Tegan -now utterly mortified- ran her fingers down her cheeks. ‘We can’t get pregnant from… that!’
‘You don’t know that, Tegan,’ Will said, looking as embarrassed as Tegan felt. ‘Like you said, Nyssa isn’t human, strictly speaking, so her species might have a different way of doing things.’
‘Don’t misunderstand us,’ Joy added. ‘Nyssa’s a wonderful young lady, and we are so happy that you’ve found someone. But we think the two of you ought to just wait a little while before giving us grandchildren-’
‘Oh my god, stop talking!’
Tegan stormed away, hurrying to her old bedroom and slipping inside. As she closed the door, she could hear the tell-tale signs of giggling from behind her.
Sur enough, as she turned, she could see Nyssa, sat on Tegan’s bed, wearing a pair of borrowed pyjamas and chuckling quietly to herself.
‘I’m guessing you heard all that,’ Tegan mumbled, sitting down on the bed.
‘Every word,’ Nyssa replied, cheeks dimpling. ‘Your parents care about you a lot.’
‘I know. I just… I wish they’d keep their noses out of our business.’
‘Well, we are currently staying in their house,’ Nyssa said, wrapping an arm around Tegan’s shoulders. ‘And, like they said, you don’t know if either of us could get pregnant from-’
‘Nyssa!’
The Trakenite let out another chuckle, and pecked Tegan on the cheek. She then settled down against the headboard of the bed, beckoning Tegan with a hand. Tegan rolled her eyes fondly and followed her girlfriend, settling down next to her. Their arms settled around each other.
‘Is it nice, being back here?’
‘On the old farm?’ Tegan replied. ‘Yeah. I haven’t been here for a while. I did move back in after I got fired from my flight attendant job, but that was a while back.’
‘Tegan, I’ve always wondered; how did a woman from a farm in rural Australia end up as a flight attendant for a plane leaving Heathrow Airport?’
‘Oh, that’s… well, it’s a bit complicated.’
Nyssa stared at her, expectantly.
‘Well, I was always a bit… different growing up,’ Tegan said. ‘Even compared to the other girls around here that grew up on farms. I didn’t find it… easy, getting on with people my age.’
Nyssa didn’t say anything, but nodded softly.
‘My parents thought that a boarding school in Europe might be a good idea,’ Tegan continued. ‘Help me make some friends, and expand my horizons a bit, that sort of thing. I never really knew what I wanted to do when I was growing up. I didn’t fancy taking over the farm, and getting a desk job in a city didn’t seem inviting. My dad had relatives living in Europe, who were happy to contribute to the fees. So… off I went, to a boarding school in France.’
‘Did you enjoy it?’
Tegan shrugged.
‘I guess. I can still speak a little French. There were lots of people from different places there; very international. But, even by their standards, a girl from the arse-end of nowhere in Australia was pretty unusual. Didn’t help that my mouth often got me into trouble.’
Nyssa chuckled, squeezing Tegan around the middle.
‘I know, some things never change.’
‘I like your mouth, Tegan.’
‘And don’t I know it. But… yeah, it was pretty great, mostly. Of course, some of the other girls were a bit horrible, but the vast majority were pretty good. Although… well, I was just becoming a teenager then.’
Nyssa frowned, brow furrowed in bafflement.
Tegan sighed.
‘I think that was when I properly began to realise that I liked girls. I mean, I was locked up in a school with tons of other girls my own age, for the first time ever. That was… eye-opening to say the least.’
‘In… in a good way?’
‘In both good and bad ways. Yes, I did realise I liked girls but… also, I realised that a lot of people didn’t approve of that.’
‘Oh, Tegan…’
Nyssa cuddled closer against Tegan, who rested her head gently against the younger woman’s, taking a slow breath.
‘Mum and dad were always great about it; they probably knew before I did that they’d never have to worry about me bringing boys home.’
‘And instead you brought home an alien woman?’
‘Ye-es,’ Tegan said, chuckling. ‘But I think they’re rather delighted by that. I did say that they’d adore you, didn’t I?’
‘True. But you haven’t explained how you ended up as a flight attendant.’
‘Oh. I just… well, after I finished at the boarding school-’
‘Where you wore the adorable sailor-suit?’
Tegan groaned.
‘Yes, where I wore that bloody sailor-suit. Anyway, after I finished, I was staying with Aunt Vanessa in Britain for the summer, wondering what I was gonna do. I saw a piece in a magazine about being a flight attendant; it sounded glamorous and interesting. I had a bunch of qualifications from the boarding school in all sorts of subjects, so I thought… what the heck? I applied and got the job. And that’s when I ended up running into the TARDIS.’
‘When you randomly wandered into the TARDIS on the Barnet bypass?’
Tegan frowned.
‘You’re never gonna let me forget that, are you?’
‘Never,’ Nyssa grinned, before sobering up. ‘But, in all seriousness, Tegan; I… I am so glad I met you.’
‘Wait, what’s brought this on?’
Nyssa sighed, squeezing Tegan softly.
‘I suppose I was just thinking… I almost lost you. I… I don’t think I ever told you how much I’m grateful that I have you in my life. It terrifies me to think that it could have all so easily never happened.’
‘Nys…’
‘I know; I’m being ridiculous.’
‘No,’ Tegan said, softly. ‘You’re being wonderful, as always.’
She pressed a tender kiss to the top of Nyssa’s curls.
‘I’m so lucky,’ she said, softly, eyes slipping shut. ‘You’re my best friend and my girlfriend too. I’m bloody lucky.’
‘I thought I was the lucky one,’ Nyssa whispered. ‘Tegan?’
‘Hm?’
‘We are still best friends, then? Despite being a couple as well?’
‘Of course,’ Tegan replied, opening her eyes and giving the younger woman a gentle squeeze. ‘Us being a couple doesn’t negate us being best friends, after all.’
Nyssa smiled.
‘Thank you.’
‘Whatever for?’
‘For… bringing me to your home. Meeting your parents. I can’t show you my home, but… I hope I can be a part of yours.’
Tegan pressed a kiss to Nyssa’s cheek.
‘You are, Nys; my home is with you.’
