35. “You heard me. Take. It. Off.”

“You heard me!” Shadow Milk smiles sharply. His voice is playful as ever, but the glint in his eyes is deadly serious. Pure Vanilla listens closely as the mirth in his tone evaporates, that unearthly stare boring into him more intensely than ever before. “Take. It. Off.”

Subconsciously, the healer feels his hand drift towards his Soul Jam. It thrums with power beneath his fingers, simultaneous reassurance and warning pulsating through the azure jewel. It clings to his robes like it knows what will happen if it is removed, and Pure Vanilla finds himself shaking his head before he even realises what he’s doing.

“No,” he says, voice definite. Shadow Milk is capable of putting him through torture beyond comprehension, but Pure Vanilla will not falter. He can’t afford to, not when so much is at stake. He steels his gaze, tightens his grip, and offers a denial that can only be met with fury.

As expected, the world twists and warps around him, the warm, fuzzy edges of his dreamlike prison distorting into a tangle of blackened tendrils, creeping and twisting and grabbing. Pure Vanilla is safe when he’s awake. That doesn’t stop Shadow Milk from trying to convince him to surrender when unconscious. The Dark Side of the Moon is an otherworldly place; in a sense, Pure Vanilla wonders if he ever sleeps at all, anymore. He certainly doesn’t feel rested just then.

“No?” The jester echoes finally, head tilting eerily to the side. Pure Vanilla does his best not to shudder at the anger he feels emanating from Shadow Milk in waves. “Hmm. You know,” His voice dips into something between a purr and a growl, tracing his finger down Pure Vanilla’s jaw. The Beast is a master of deception, and Pure Vanilla knows as much. That doesn’t stop the urge he feels to lean into the first warm touch he’s felt in what feels like centuries. “This would be so much easier if you stopped resisting. So stubborn, Vanilly! I’d be impressed if it wasn’t so infuriating.” 

The grip on his jaw tightens, and Pure Vanilla desperately hopes that determination masks the fear in his eyes as they’re wrenched towards Shadow Milk’s own. He’s too close, Pure Vanilla thinks distantly, sickening anxiety slithering under his skin. The scorching, gentle touch he provides is something the healer both despises and craves, and he hates himself for the latter.

“No matter,” Shadow Milk softens again, stroking against Pure Vanilla’s cheek. He should fight back. He doesn’t. “You’ll come around eventually.” The steady tick of a clock begins to echo in Pure Vanilla’s ears, unnatural and loud and far too damning.

“It’s only a matter of time.”

— First dates were always going to be a little awkward, especially when said first date was with a coworker of yours. You and Simon had known each other for a few months when you more or less confessed your feelings to him one exhausting morning. And luckily for you, he agreed to go on a date

You did your best to forget how embarrassing and red your cheeks got after the confession and simply just enjoyed the thought of getting to go on a date with Simon.

Arriving just a few minutes earlier to the cafe you two decided to meet up at, you picked a nice table in the corner.

Not long after you arrived, the front door to the cafe chimed its little bell and Simon entered the cafe. Tilting his head just a little bit to even fit through the door. It almost made you laugh yet instead you just waved your hand at him.

His brown eyes upon seeing you lit up, crinkling in almost what seemed like a smile. You couldn’t tell, as he never went out without his fabric mask. A black mask with white markings of that of the bottom half of a skull. You never asked why he wore the mask, just assumed it was something he enjoyed and a topic that maybe he would share with you in the future.

You greet the tall man with a warm smile as he moves in closer to the table. “Sorry if I kept you waitin’.” Simon says in an apologetic tone.

“It’s really no problem. I just got here, please don’t apologize,” You state and wave your hand to brush away the apology. He brushes some of his dusty blonde hair out of his eyes and accepts the gratitude.

You two talk shortly before a waitress comes over to take your order. You order a tasty sounding strawberry shortcake and a blueberry boba. Turning to Simon, who you expect to order something more bitter, he instead orders a brown sugar milk tea.

“Good choice,” You encourage him with a smile. He doesn’t answer but his brown eyes flutter in what you could assume as thanks. Casually now you two have some fun banter that doesn’t even casual work conversation. And you can only describe it as…really, really nice. Never knowing he was such a passionate person. But that is probably because work is draining more so than you could describe with words.

The two of you receive your drinks and your dessert, which both look absolutely amazing. You opt for taking a photo of your food and instead ask him how his drink is.

“It’s really good. Sugary but tasty,” he responds softly, glancing over at you with soft eyes. “Next time, I’ll have to try that blueberry one you ordered,” Simon states, another crinkle of his eyes.

Laughing softly you stir the drink before you…that is until his words really sink into you.

For the drabble requests: Jin/Takeda/Jacqui hurt/comfort, please?

The thing is... Jin is pissed off. It isn't the first nor the last time. In fact, maybe being pissed off is his default state, as he doesn't remember a time in which he wasn't pissed off. He's about to do what he always does and make a snarky comment about it, maybe bury his fury in deep until he can shoot someone about it. The words get stuck in his throat when he sees the shine of tears in Jacqui's eyes.

Kung Jin freezes.

"Hey, it's okay!" Takeda says.

Jin doesn't need mind-reading powers to know those are empty words. There is nothing okay about this. Jacqui - the strongest person he knows - is breaking down and Kung Jin feels powerless.

"I'm sorry-" she babbles, frantically rubbing her eyes with both hands. "I don't- It's okay, I'm okay."

Those are also empty words. Kung Jin knows. He's talked about himself that way in the past. Before he'd learned to lash out, he had to learn to stand up by himself.

But this isn't a situation he can fix by lashing out, though. And Jacqui isn't by herself.

"No, you're not," he says. He scoots closer to her and loops his arm around her waist to pull her closer.

Both Jacqui and Takeda give him a shocked look. And this is terrifying. Maybe Jin isn't suited for this, maybe he doesn't deserve it. But he'll be damned if he'll let the people he loves stand by themselves.

"You're not okay, but you don't have to be. You can be not okay. Just lean on us."

Jacqui's lower lip quivers before she fully buries her face into his shoulder and starts sobbing. Kung Jin squeezes her a little and exchanges a glance with Takeda over her head. Their boyfriend gives him a small, sad smile. I'm proud of you, the smile says. Takeda soon joins them by embracing both until they tire of letting it all out.

They're not okay. But they will be, so long they have each other.

Can I request "this didnt turn out like I intended" with shidou, es, and amane?

Aw yeah!! Thank you so much for the request -- I ended up giving the line to Es but honestly all three of them could have said it, it was perfect 👀 I pictured this before the T2 interrogations, with Es being fairly quiet about their guilt towards everything that happened. Though Shidou appears a bit less, I hope I could convey that he and Es share a lot of thoughts, interestingly.

Es would never get accustomed to the screaming. 

They’d heard a few anguished cries from the prisoner’s videos. They’d gotten a few agitated shouts when the first trial verdicts were announced. But nothing could have prepared them for the way the prison halls echoed now. Whether the prisoners poured out their sorrows, anguish, or agony at recent injuries, Es didn’t think they needed Milgram’s power to hear the true sounds of their heart. 

Es wished they’d just stop already. They knew it was selfish to hope for. They knew it stemmed from their own guilt. That didn’t make them wish for it any less.

The current bout of cries was coming from Shidou’s cell. Es had paused just before passing, trying to bury a wince as they listened to Fuuta struggle with treatment.

Amane approached from the other side. She glared at the cell, though Es knew it wasn’t the screaming that was bothering her.

She opened her mouth to speak, but they said in a hushed voice, “hey, I don’t need you giving Shidou any trouble. I know you disapprove, but I stand by this. I’m the one who told Shidou to check on Fuuta and Mahiru. I’m going to make sure they’re cared for.”

Amane studied them with her bright, unsettling gaze. “Why?” Her voice came out as strangely even as always. She was one of the few Es hadn’t heard any kind of shout from. “If something is destined to happen, who are you to change its course? Do you really believe you are the same as God, having that much control over the lives of others?”

“Not at all.” Es didn’t fight her. They weren’t here to change her heart, only read it. Still, they wondered if they could convince her to soften a bit without denouncing her beliefs. “The thing is, I’m not affecting their fate.”

“Then what do you call this?”

“Putting things back the way they should be.”

Es had tried to stand by their actions. They’d put on a tough face in front of the injured prisoners. They could not show weakness. As their warden, they couldn’t show any uncertainty, whatsoever. After all, the only thing worse than nearly getting killed was finding out you nearly got killed because of a child’s mistake. So they would keep this act up. They would assure everyone that this was still going according to plan. 

The way Amane looked at them, she already knew it wasn’t.

So, they figured it wouldn’t hurt to speak a little more openly now. Maybe it would even help explain Amane’s verdict. That certainly hadn’t gone as planned, either. “I wrongfully changed their lives when I let them get hurt. I saw that Kotoko had the capability for something like this, and I ignored it in the name of forgiveness. Now I need to fix the harm I’ve caused.”

“You haven’t caused any harm.”

Fuuta howled from inside.

Amane turned her gaze away. “That was still an outside force. You had no control over Kotoko’s actions. You and Shidou have control now.”

“I did have control over Kotoko, though. I knew my choices would have consequences. This is my fault.”

It felt good to say it out loud. Maybe not 'good.' It was a relief.

“And if I may venture to speak for Shidou…” That man was a mystery, but Es had put a few pieces together, at least. “It seems… he also took some lives off of their intended course. This is his way of fixing that. Right now, this is all we can do to make up for our decisions of the past. Isn’t that acceptable?”

She went to answer, but some shuffling from the cell cut her off. Shidou emerged, his expression changing ever so slightly upon finding the two just outside. Fuuta scowled on his way out, but said nothing. 

As the pair stood face to face, Amane’s eyes lit with fiery fury. Shidou met her with a harsh coldness.

“I wasn’t expecting you two,” he said simply. He was one of the others Es had yet to hear with a raised voice. Their two quietest prisoners, locked in such an intense struggle. That had certainly been an unexpected turn. “Is everything alright?”

“Yes,” Es lied. “We just stopped to talk for a moment.”

“Oh? What about?” Shidou folded his hands together. His gloves were covered in blood, they noticed. 

“Just that… this…” they waved a gloved hand in a general gesture, “didn’t work out as I intended.”

Shidou offered them a smile. It was one without any warmth, but that didn’t make it any less genuine.

“Mmm. It never does.”

TJ was doing his funny little tongue-sticking-out concentration face. Most of the time, it was incredibly cute, but looking up from his current position resting on Terry Jr's lap, Nicky thought it looked really stupid. Still cute! But mostly stupid. Although that could just be that Terry's laser-point focus was for once not directed at something academic and complicated, but at bating around Nicky's tail. Really, out of the two of them, you'd think the half-demon would be the one who acted more like a cat. But no, it was the stressed-out wizard. The tail only had to waft past his face one time, and now he was treating it like a Tetherball. Nicky sighed and wrapped his tail around Terry's wrist. "Okay, catboy, calm down. It's far too early for you to be this hyper." As everyone knows, things aren't allowed to happen until at least 11 am. "Sorry, dear." Terry Jr looked down at the demon in his lap, smiling sheepishly. "Although, I don't think it's fair to call me the catboy, when you literally purr." "Lies and slander." Not wanting to get up, Nicky used the tip of his tail to bap him in the face. "Is that so?" "Yes, absolutely. Any mysterious vocal cord vibrations you imagine are clearly fearsome demonic growls, and not purrs." "Sure. I loved this request so much I almost wanted to make it an au but I promised myself I wouldn’t do that unless I was gonna make an AO3 account. (A//N: I AM SO SORRY I MISINTERPRETED THIS AS HEADCANONS AND NOT STORY I WILL WRITE A SMALL DRABBLE FOR YOU AS SOON AS I FIND THE TIME AND I WILL TAG YOU I AM SO SORRY)

Honestly as wrapped up as Dabi has been in his quest to destroy his father I don’t think he would care much about Eri herself. 

Definitely would have her use her quirk on him to see what all the damage can be reversed and as an excuse to push himself even further. 

Like make no mistake I’m as big a fan of Dabi being a good brother as everyone else but realistically it won’t happen. 

I do think he would grow to care for Eri, however. 

In his own selfish way. 

Shigaraki, however, is another story. 

Listen, I 100% believe that Shigaraki would project his younger self onto Eri. 

However if this is pre getting his shit together by slipping further away from the light Shigaraki he would have no clue how to take care of someone else that isn’t himself. 

Definitely would shove her off into the hands of Kurogiri with an order to look after the girl. 

Which Kurogiri would complain about but still do very well! 

But if you want to shift the timeline around a bit for your bidding and have a more serious Shigaraki then he would take Eri on as AFO did for himself. 

Whether this is good or not is another story entirely and completely up for interpretation!

Shigaraki would see to it that Eri develops her powers and would definitely be feeding her some LOV propaganda about heroes (though let's be honest he has some genuine criticisms that I love to see addressed in the plot). 

Overall I don’t think he’d be a father figure to her so much as an older brother figure. 

He would tease and taunt her often, not always with any malicious intent but trying to mimic the relationship he once had with his sister. 

Kurogiri would be left to do the brunt of the actual raising when it comes to Eri and I full-heartedly believe he would do a fantastic job of it. Most likely he would categorize raising Eri as following Shigaraki’s orders and by extension the orders of AFO to look after Shigaraki’s development. 

Shigaraki can’t raise a child by himself and run the league, now could he? No. So obviously Kurogiri is doing his job!

I think Toga would be the most excited at the prospect of another girl in the league. Especially one that would be easy for her to befriend. Definitely put on babysitting duty often. 

Toga would be the one to introduce Eri to more girly things like painting nails and doing hair. Though Kurogiri would have to keep an eye on them to make sure Toga doesn’t get too carried away and try to take a little blood. 

Eri would definitely grow up to be a biter if she was raised by the league. 

You have to be just a little unhinged to survive there. Let's be real here.
