steve and eddie fuck to cope with all the shit they’ve been through and seen.
it doesn’t mean anything, they don’t talk about it—it just happens from time to time. its not nice and not overly gentle. it’s just both of their pent up energy coming to a head.
they’re best friends and it doesn’t change that, so when each of them start to catch feelings that start to teeter into frightening territory—they begin to distance themselves from the other.
it sucks, they hate it.
eddie makes up excuses about band practice and dnd planning. steve makes up excuses of fake dates and work shifts.
despite the best effort, it doesn’t work. if anything, it makes it worse.
they have a night to themselves, robin bailing last minute.
it starts out the same as always. with slow movements towards each other. fingers brushing, moving close till their thighs touch.
then quickly encompassing of the other, hot mouths and determined wandering hands.
its the same, but its different. it slows down, like they’re savoring it, like it’s the last time to touch and feel whatever this is between them.
the different becomes overwhelming. its not the same—and they both know it.
they just think it’s the last time to have this.
steve doesn’t move, still breathing deeply, just looking at him.
“please,” he whispers, “i just want to be loved. even if it’s not real. just this once, i want to feel what it’s like to be loved.”
big hands cup eddie’s face, brushing away a tear that escaped down his cheek.
“i love you,” is all he hears before he’s kissed again, languid and deep, soft and hard.
eddie has half the mind to say it back, an unspoken question from the answer to his own.
its not the same.
its not rough, it’s not harsh.
its soft, it’s tender. it’s loving.
it’s making love.
as corny as it sounds, it’s what he imagines making love would be like.
they both think it’s one sided.
they pour every ounce of love and devotion they carry for the other into the moment.
but,
they wake up tangled together. and they stay like that.
basked in warmth, they try to hang on to the night just for a second more.
when they say i love you, it’s not because they’re half asleep, it’s because they mean it.
and when steve comes back to bed and pecks eddie’s cheek, they both share a look—as if to realize and solidify that yeah, this is real.

Saw some comments about this so I'm here to set the record:
War - Barbie
Death - Oppenheimer
Famine - Morbius
Pestilence - Minions: The Rise of Gru
Barbie has always been at war. Its fought the patriarchy, camp-hating critics, and now its fighting to win a box office record. Barbie fans are the ones that sparked and fueled the competition with Oppenheimer, because at their core, every fan of Barbie is a warrior.
Speaking of, though Oppenheimer is about an event occurring during a war, its specific focus was not on the actual fighting but on the death toll left from the bombings on Hiroshima, which is known as one of humanity's greatest loss of life tragedies. Oppenheimer focused on the impacts of war because of how much death it caused, thus making it Death more so than War. It also was very passive to the Barbenheimer battle, as more an after thought that would be a testament to the event rather than an active player (as is death in the presence of war). Oppenheimer's significant lack of push and attention in the wake of Barbie's explosive reception is very similar to that of the quietness of death after a battle, especially considering Barbie ended up winning. The victor of the war will tower over the dead who have lost.
Morbius is Famine. It received little to no genuine reception following its announcement, and became a laughing stock at the box office. Morbius was a tremendous flop, so starved and desperate for the nourishment of audience purchases that it opened in theaters a second time when the unsubstantial potential for sales presented itself. It is to be stuck in an endless loop of starvation, so desolate and empty it ended up in the burial grounds of Netflix.
The Rise of Gru follows a diseased lineage that has plagued the movie industry with its repetitive filth. It is a pestilence which poisoned our media supply until there was nothing left but mediocre remakes and sequels. The final nail in the coffin before the movie industry was so riddled that we now turn towards television and content creation far more than theater releases.

I refuse to believe that any line in Barbie was just a throwaway joke, I firmly believe that every line of dialogue was meticulously crafted by Gerwig and Baumbach.
Spoilers for Barbie below the break.
That said, I can't get Ken's line out of my head, "To be honest, when I found out the patriarchy wasn’t about horses I lost interest."
This scene is a turning point for Ken's character, and while it a great joke performed perfectly by Ryan Gosling, it also serves as a deeper truism for many ideologies, not just the patriarchy.
So many things seem cool on the surface (I get to ride horses and cool cars and drink beers with the bros in my Mojo Dojo Casa House) until you realize that the idea or concept you are embracing, when carried out in full, inevitably screws over somebody else, usually someone you love (i.e. all the Barbies).
So many people are too excited about the horses to notice the douchebags they will become. And even once they realize that their newfound ideology isn't all it's cracked up to be, they're "in too deep" and pride and peer pressure make it hard to turn back. Suddenly you "aren't manly enough" if you don't do everything that all the rest of the guys do, so you just play along, making yourself more miserable the longer you do nothing.
Only when you break out from devoting your entire personality to a single idea can you truly find your own personal identity and become the Ken (or Barbie or Allan) you were Made For.
It may seem noncommittal, but Oppenheimer's practice of reading about and engaging with other worldviews is the healthiest way to decide for yourself who and what you want to be.

Look at these lovebirds on vacation! Look at how relaxed and confident Cillian is. And the casual affection is adorable.
