as a fun fact, you following me was an impetus for writing this post. when you joked around with me on a previous post, I figured you were joking about your username. only after I responded did I notice you were an actual doctor.

I realized that my audience wasn't just people with the same rare condition as me, but that it also includes medical professionals. and as I talked about these issues with the premedical students around me in the days before writing this post, I realized they were really listening.

you mentioned using your position as a doctor to advocate for yourself, and I've seen the influence of that kind of thing. knowing my way around the literature allowed me to discern when my doctors were full of shit (which is why I write so many medical literacy posts). but I've also noticed that as I advance in my career, doctors treat me differently after the "what do you do for work?" question. I'm no longer a patient - I'm someone they can talk business to. it's an uncomfortable privilege.

and as for having so many extra barriers in med school - it's a massive factor in how few disabled doctors there are (you'll find more of my thoughts on that here). but I think as an undercurrent, people genuinely don't think disabled people should get higher education. to them, disabled people are the "low achieving" students who need to be "weeded out".

in the earlier years of my higher education I had my accommodations denied over and over again, and I couldn't get department heads to listen to me about their employees. I was told, multiple times, that if I was so sick I simply shouldn't be in their class at all. my premed peers assumed my accommodations were unnecessary and a shortcut.

despite the advancements made in American anti discrimination rights for disabled people, protections still fall short, and their power is often eroded over time. what happened to me wasn't just immoral - it was blatantly illegal. but I couldn't sue, not for money or to get grades removed from my record, only for an order from the judge to cut it out. whistleblowing would've only caused a "mediator" to be sent to try and smooth ruffled feathers.

you and I know what kind of hell this is. but the general public doesn't think of disability discrimination as an issue at all. it is my opinion that the problem is particularly rampant in classrooms in addition to hospitals.

yes, doctors suck, but also "the medical ethics and patient interaction training doctors receive reinforces ableism" and "the hyper competitive medical school application process roots out the poor, the disabled, and those who would diversify the field" and "anti-establishment sentiment gets applications rejected and promotions requests denied, weeding out the doctors on our side" and "the gruesome nature of the job and the complete lack of mental health support for medical practitioners breeds apathy towards patients" and "insurance companies often define treatment solely on a cost-analysis basis" and "doctors take on such overwhelming student loan debt they have no choice but to pursue high paying jobs at the expense of their morals" are all also true

none of this absolves doctors of the truly horrendous things they say and do to patients, but it's important to acknowledge that rather than every doctor being coincidentally a bad person, there is something specific about this field and career path that gives rise to such high prevalence of ableist attitudes

I quite literally overshare a shit ton, im already doing that now too ,so all those words i said were rlly hypocritical and thats why taking my meds earlier made me realize a bit more—it wasnt fair for me to bullshit on airis (i keep misreading r/g together) cuz i do the same things, and i know theyre already doing horribly enough as is so that served as another reality check of "oh. Yeah okay. I got a bit too angry at a child on the internet for literally venting and i shoved my whole nose up in their business instead of ignoring it" 😭

It didnt seem biased, even if it was, youd still have a right to defend them,, i wanted to make sure to keep my mouth closed here and listen since i (verbatim) didnt have anyone to Genuinely point out my bad / lack of wording

Of course, i want to be held accountable for my own actions, id hate to play the "oh im the adult here" card and act as a know it all yk,,, we all make mistakes and it takes more than three people to point out another persons wrongs (er if that makes sense? I meant it since two people went here in my ask box (you and conan) and i hope thay made sense oops,)

i hate tampons i don't wear them because of that, also i always fear they get stuck in me when i do wear them i wear pads and half of my friends that ever since they had kids wear pads now also tampons are uncomfortable after you have kids i heard.

hm, yeah tampons aren't for everyone. i was sort of a late bloomer when it comes to wearing tampons. i didn't start wearing them until i was like 18. i tried them once when i was like 15 or 16 and didn't realize you had to insert the applicator as well so basically my tampon sat right at my opening and hurt like hell. i pulled it out right after and waited years to try them again. plus at the time i was also afraid it would get stuck the longer i had it in. now i realize it's the easiest to pull out when it's actually absorbed a good amount. dry tampons are harder to pull out and hurt so bad to pull out. now that's all i wear. i mean i will wear pads on my lightest days when tampons are just not feasible though. i even sleep in them but make sure i don't sleep more than 8 hours so i can change it of course.

and i didn't know about the kids thing. you'd think after having kids tampons would be easier. (after healing obviously.)

Just thinking about s4 but when Alpha!Eddie grabs Steve to shove the bottle against his neck, he doesn't realize Steve is an omega and accidentally scruffs him. And Steve is just boneless, kinda goes down. And Eddie isn't expecting deadweight and almost falls ontop of Steve but realizes what's happening (let's just say he's fought off a few bullies who scruffed members of his pack). He immediately drops the bottle and holds onto Steve, who tries to scent Eddie. Just shoves his face into Eddie's neck and nuzzles it, lets out a purr unintentionally.

Maybe I’m dumb but how did viktor’s crutch suddenly get several feet longer? The rest that used to sit under his arm now is above his head?

Hi lovely. You're not dumb! It's such a quick moment in the episode that it's easy to miss what (I think) happens.

So when Viktor comes out of the hex-goop he immediately reaches for his crutch (a really cool detail that I love very much, as it shows that, deep down, he's still Viktor to at least some degree). Now, in this shot, right after he grabs it, his crutch looks like it always has

But we can see that when he touches the crutch, he begins to change it in a similar way that he himself has been changed. You can see it actually happening here

And here you can see it afterwords.

And then there's this shot while he's talking to Jayce that shows his entire crutch. If you look at the very bottom, you can see this spindly design that wasn't there before

So I think what happened is him touching the crutch made it transform and therefore extended it, making it taller than before.

It even sounds different when he walks! It's more of a glassy/metallic sound than a thump. How cool is that!

Context: In a previous post i drew Hector with visible seems on his body and in the tags said he has a few ... quirks for being an ex-god.

Hector will quite literally fall apart at a random seam (or a few) if he gets too wrapped up in destructive/unhealthy thinking now. If you wanna think about it in a more terrifying context this is essentially what i headcanoned happened to his body when he ascended - except in the rift it all dissipated, leaving him as how he was as Inspekta.

Once you go in the rift even if you choose to leave it still will affect you. You will have to live with the choices you made either way. You climbed the tower of Babel and looked gods in the eye as an equal- you do NOT return the same.

yes, basically what I enjoy to think about Blaine and the Klaine dynamics sometimes ^^^ though, I think it's more like he does understand Kurt in calmer private moments, but then when he's in the mood for fun and impulsive, he can be a little foil to Kurt in public and Kurt has learnt to forgive and love him through all.

But back to the subject of Superpower!AU sorry I want to ramble off from your response too!

I don't think Blaine needs superpower to feel empath - canonly, I think he has been displayed he is able to read people very well when he pays attention to. Empath Superpower is basically he isn't just able to read them but READ AND FEEL THEM VERY WELL, UNINTENTIONALLY AND CONSTANTLY - so you can imagine how hilarious it is, if Blaine - someone who is shown to crave positive responses in canon - got to constantly feel positive responses from others whenever he performs, which would explaine why he can sometimes so wild and impulsive - because he is SO HAPPY WHEN OTHERS ARE HAPPY.

(So you help you understand about Empath superpower: The user can fully interpret the emotions, moods, and temperaments of others without reading apparent symptoms, allowing them to understand introverts or discover one emotion is actually hiding another... (powerlisting.fandom.com/wiki/Empathy))

So yeah, in short, I think Empath would be a perfectly funny superpower for Blaine to have because it's the kind of power that would make Blaine thrives but also a foil to himself lol.

On another note, to answer your tags about Kurt superpower, I've thought long and hard about this to eventually has an answer that I'd be happy with. (But no, probably not mindreader because I'm afraid a delusional-and-conniving Kurt Hummel can only thrive with this kind of superpower lol. And I want a superpower that helps Kurt thrive and a foil to himself instead)

So I select Invisibility. To elaborate, think of how Kurt can totally thrive with this power: he can still totally schemming evil plans and stuffs - and seeing how he always acts innocent after doing wrong things, imagine how he would love this power and the ability to deny doing anything at times.

Additionally, thinks of how in many performances (esp in s1 I think) when other members dance and sing, and Kurt just sat there, close-off and clearly not wanting to join in. And look annoyed or even murderous when people want him to join in. it would be funny imagining Kurt keeps disappearing whenever others ask him to join in the songs that he doesn't like. And last but not least, IMAGINE HOW FUNNY IT IS FOR KURT to desperately want to turn invisible right away whenever Blaine sings about Kurt's feelings unintentionally in public, but he also HAS TO stay visible because "he wants to keep a good impression with Blaine" or "wants to show he's supporting him." Imagine that funny mental conflicts!

But of course, Invisibility would also be a personal foil to Kurt in the way he has to learn not to dissappear from his friends and loved ones whenever he's in pain and wants to close-off, and has to stay visible so they can support and comfort him. Which would be so lovely conflict as well~

Oh! But to answer your response as well, I agree that it makes their relationships much more special, in spite all of their worst tendincies and superpower shenenigans, which is for Blaine to face his real feelings and not focusing on others emotions and for Kurt to be honest with blaine and not dissappearing or closing off when he's embarrassed or hurt. This conversation honestly enrichs my fantasy about their superpower!AU

i forgor to say this earlier in my animal post but i also think some blaine songs are inappropriate because they seem to capture more how KURT feels at that moment ABOUT blaine, but because blaine is singing it, it feels like hes making fun of him. just evil.

I think the lovely thing about AUs is that I can see many people’s different dreams of how certain characters could interact in a certain scenario. But its whole purpose is to differ from canon in some aspect, no?

That’s why it’s an alternate universe. The severity in which it differs is up to the AU author, I think.

I guess I just don’t think of AUs as influencing what I’d like to see in canon?? Canon is the story we’re all invested in, but I think we all are just interested in seeing how the writers write their show. (Or at least that’s how I interact with hazbin lol)

And AUs are for fans to be imaginative and have fun. I don’t know how to describe it exactly, I guess I just see them as two separate entities so I don’t really consider how AUs may influence what I want to see in canon.
