If a screenwriter and a director came up to you and said "Rocket, we have seen the light, Katie McGraff is the hotness, you're clearly the man with the plan, please help us come up with a movie or TV show that best shows off her talents as the leading lady," what would your top 3 pitches be? Knowing you have complete creative control of The Thing.

First of all I want you to know that "Katie McGrath is the hotness" might just become my tag for her because I love that phrase SO very dearly.

SECONDLY WHAT A GOOD QUESTION. I feel like I'm going to do a mix of both what I would like to see her in and also what I feel like (from the little of what I understand) her genre preferences are:

PROJECT NUMBER ONE: You know initially I was going to say "Some sort of dark fantasy and/or period piece" but then I remembered that I can just fulfill all of our wildest dreams and do a mini-series (because fuck multiple movies this is a pro "the importance of letting stories breathe" blog) of The Priory of the Orange Tree and casting her as Sabran. She's the right age, the perfect look AND all of our favorite things of looking gay and stern in a period/fantasy dress!!! (I'd have to think more on the rest of the cast but I'm up to the challenge and would devote a substantial amount of the budget to costume design)

PROJECT NUMBER TWO: A contemporary paranormal/supernatural thriller maybe a la Midnight Mass or Bly Manor or maybe Crimson Peak? (haven't actually seen any of these cause I'm a weenie but that's the kind of vibes I want) and make her a vampire. Or a ghost actually I think that could be a lot of fun. If we're going Midnight Mass/Mike Flanagan then Rahul Kohli's there because I want to see what sort of chemistry they can actually work with that's not 12 minutes on a CW show. I want it to hurt and I want her to have fun running around screaming maybe! Or biting people! Or both!!

PROJECT NUMBER THREE: some sort of historical documentary. Get her a cozy sweater, get her in a castle or some old ass building somewhere and let her just Go. Put a jaunty little soundtrack over it and boom instant hit.

trent’s dad forced him to take accounting.

cody, trent, justin and harold formed the drama brothers when they were assigned to work on a project in music together in s3. they’re all in the same AH class.

all of gen 1 are in the same form class. chris is their form teacher.

noah, ellody, courtney and emma are all key members of the student council.

izzy has accidentally set fire to the entire school twice.

sanders from ridonculous race is the headmistress because i refuse to beleive that sanders and macarthur are the same age as gen characters and because she’s better fit for this than a police job.

blaineley is a drama teacher.

kitty is an s3 in this au, while gen 1 is in s5.

izzy and duncan are the two pupils with the most detentions and suspensions. miraculously, neither of them have ever been expelled.

the lunch tables are separated by form classes.

owen takes business because he thought it would help him in his future endeavours of making a cookie business.

(so i had to take away a few of the things i wrote due to general stupidity of them or i just didn’t agree with those things anymore. i also did a little ‘teacher’s opinions’ thing that i will share if people want it? (but i doubt that). uhhh yeah basically i turn everything into an au. might make a post about orphans au, i dunno)

"I don't care for tea much," Pierre says, and Charles rolls his eyes at him, settling more comfortably in his lap.

"That is because you are a heathen, mon amour."

He pats Pierre on the cheek condescendingly, and watches his eyes narrow, just as he knew they would. "You drink coffee, which is just vile." He shudders. "Ugh, the taste."

Pierre grins. "You do not mind the taste of it when I -"

"Okay, lads, that is quite enough, thank you very much!"

Charles turns towards George, whose face has two bright red spots high on his cheekbones. Charles will never understand how, after everything they've gone through, George is still so terribly uptight about the matters of the flesh. Charles has lost most of his inhibitions around the first time Pierre fucked him so good, he couldn't remember his own name, and somehow never had the same sense of modesty again.

It is much more freeing, being like this. He prefers it greatly to how it was before. He leans down to press a soft kiss to Pierre's brow, and Pierre squeezes his waist in response. He also puts his hand on Charles' ass, grinning in satisfaction.

Charles adores him more than he thought was ever possible.

"You are so painfully British," Alex says from where he's leaning back on the double-seater, his shirt half-unbottoned, his legs stretched out before him. "You bloody colonizer."

Charles giggles just as George groans.

"Alex," he says, fiddling with the boiling kettle. "That joke is getting old."

"It's not a joke, Georgie, it's the most honest statement of fact." Alex catches Charles' eye and winks. "That exact tea you're making? Oolong? That was stolen by your colonizer ancestors from my country."

George turns to look at Alex incredulously, and Charles hears the muffled snort Pierre hides in the material of his shirt. He doesn't move his face away, and Charles feels goose-bumps on his skin by the delicious scratch of Pierre's beard right at his collarbone.

"You were literally born in Port --, Alex," he deadpans. Alex grins.

"Ah, Georgie, it's about the ancestry. You have taken everything from me, really." He pauses. "Including my heart."

George looks extremely flustered as he pours the water over tea-leaves and coffee beans. Alex is watching him with a rogue smile, and Charles is admittedly somewhat distracted by Pierre's soft kisses on his neck, contrasting with the roughness of his beard.

"Here you go," George says, bringing two mugs to Charles and Pierre. "And will you please cease molesting Charles in public, Pierre?"

"Why? Your delicate British sensibilities cannot take open expression of my love for Charles?" Pierre asks, but moves a bit away, careful not to spill the liquid. "How - what's that word he likes to use, cher?"

"Quaint." Charles supplies, keeping his face neutral. George, who knows him, rolls his eyes pointedly, then takes the other two mugs and kicks Alex's legs, handing him the coffee amd sitting next to him. "Merci, George."

"Yes, thank you Georgie," Alex says, and the blush on George's face gets even brighter. Pierre chuckles into his coffee.

They busy themselves with blowing on the hot coffees and teas for a moment, but Charles knows neither Pierre nor Alex are done with screwing with George.

"Do you not like tea at all, Alex?"

Charles hides a grin behind his mug, because the tone Pierre is using is the one he uses when he wants to deliberately provoke someone for fun. Also, everybody knows Pierre and Alex spent years with each other, living out of each other's pockets, and that the question is a deliberate bait.

"Why yes, I do like my ancestral drink, Pierre, thank you for asking," Alex replies, and George groans. "Do you like tea, which the British colonizers have taken from my country and spread through Europe?"

"Not really," Pierre says. "I prefer coffee."

"My favorite tea is jasmine," Charles chimes in the most innocent tone. "What about you, George?"

George is sat ramrod-straight, and Charles really wants to laugh at the tight expression on his face. He inhales sharply, then breathes out, his whole body sagging.

"Oolong," he says . "This one. Can we please drop it now?"

Alex ignores him completely, talking right over him, a huge grin on his face.

"Well my favorite tea is -"

He cuts himself off abruptly, and Charles sees his eyes widen in some realisation that, by his looks, is very unfavorable to him. Pierre notices the same thing, and he pauses, thinking. Then he looks at Alex and bursts out laughing.

"Oh, oh that is - that is - mon Dieu," he says through his laughter, and Charles feels how his whole body shakes and raises his own tea cup, so as not to get burnt as he's being bounced on Pierre's lap.

"What?" Him and George ask at the same time, glancing at each other.

"What, Pear?" Charles asks as Pierre's laughter dies down.

"Alex?" George asks, and Alex groans. "Love, what is it?"

"If you don't say it, I will," Pierre says with a grin.

Alex flips him off, the murmurs something into his cup.

"What?"

Alex turns to George, his face pained and a bit red.

"I said, my favorite tea is," he closes his eyes "Earl Grey."

There is a moment of silence in the room before George's face splits into a delighted grin.

"Alexander," he drawls, and Alex groans again. "How very - British of you."

Charles can't hold back his giggles anymore. Pierre's arm clamos around his waist, holding him steady, as Alex looks into George's pleased face.

"I will just escort myself out," Alex says pitifully.

"Why? It is good tea," Charles asks, a giggle escaping him. Alex narrows his eyes.

"It's the principle, Charles," he says. "I hate myself on principle."

"Well," Geirge says haughtily. "I think you have wonderful taste."

Alex looks at him, and George doesn't look away, even as his cheeks flush again.

"Well, I picked you, didn't I," Alex says, and his smile is soft. Charles can feel himself smile, too, when George nods, a bit awestruck. Alex leans in slowly, and Charles watches them kiss tenderly and feels only happiness for his sworn god-brother and friend.

"I knew you were an exhibitionist, darling, but a voyeur," Pierre says into his ear, and Charles shivers.

"Shut up, you asshole," he says back in soft French. "They are adorable."

"Mm, and so are you," Pierre says. "I like seeing you happy."

Charles looks st Pierre, and smiles.

"You make me happy."

Pierre's eyes shine, and when he leans in to kiss Charles, his kiss is searing hot and terribly soft at the same time.

Charles smiles, and kisses him back.

Yennefer also forced/coerced Geralt to have sex with her in places and at times when he didn't want to, was often emotionally abusive (to both Geralt AND Ciri), for example with the whole Istredd thing where she manipulated them both essentially for fun. I know she can be compelling as a character and has an attempt at s growth arc in the books, but I personally think that some of her actions are overlooked way to often and way too easily. Being a survivor of abuse does not give one the right to abuse others. (I promise this is a good faith ask! You asked for examples so these are some that came to my mind first)

Some of these I completely get where you’re coming from, others I’m not sure (BUT I have only reread Lady of the Lake fairly recently, so it’s possible I’m forgetting the bits in text!)

Correct me if I’m wrong, but is this referring to the Yennefer/Geralt having sex in weird places (+ Geralt being like why can we just not have sex on a bed)? I wasn’t giving the impression that was dubcon/coercion at all vs both of them mutually having sex, and Geralt grumbling about location (but still actively wanting to have sex with Yennefer). Possible I’m not recalling something key here though?

The example I can recall here for Ciri is often “ugly one” - I don’t think I can comment much on that one, as I’ve seen a lot of discourse surrounding specifically how it’s translated/read, so I’ll defer to the Polish speakers on that one. Outside of that, is there another example with Ciri?

Geralt? Yeah, absolutely at points. When we’re first introduced to Yennefer, she’s the antagonist of the text, and their interactions during that timeframe are antagonist-protagonist, and probably understandably the parts people draw most issue with. There’s also points where that continues (e.g their living together, mentions to Nenneke of Yennefer being controlling - although we’re not given an example of what that means).

I have another ask about this I can’t link because I’m currently on mobile, but I will try and add it to this post when I get a chance. I think the Istredd situation (while messed up) is also very misread by a lot of people. I’m not given the impression any of that happened for “fun” per say, but rather a chain of events something like:

Geralt ditches Yennefer in Vengerberg with notes and flowers -> 4 years pass (implied from memory that Istredd supports her during this time + she’s upset about it) -> shakily back together -> Yennefer visits Istredd because she misses the time and lifestyle (also if I remember right, implied to be breakup sex) -> Istredd throws a wrench in the works by proposing (offering Yen commitment + stability) -> Istredd and Geralt preparing to fight to the death -> Yennefer makes up a kestrel to break up with Istredd, and is set on that course. She only makes one up for Geralt because she asks him to admit he loves her, he refuses and instead spirals into self-pity, goes on a “mutants don’t have feelings” spiel and Yennefer makes a kestrel for him after realising he’s not going to take that step

The Istredd situation is definitely messy, but a lot of people seem to shake it down into “Yen being mean for fun/Yen just cheating/Yen being a bitch” when there’s a lot of context to it + it’s really designed to highlight that they’re not at a place in the story where they can be together because they can’t even be honest with each other.

I know she can be compelling as a character and has an attempt at s growth arc in the books, but I personally think that some of her actions are overlooked way to often and way too easily. Being a survivor of abuse does not give one the right to abuse others. (I promise this is a good faith ask! You asked for examples so these are some that came to my mind first)

No, these are good examples and I 100% did ask because sometimes it’s easier to discuss with specific examples in front of you.

I definitely think there’s criticism to be had for Yennefer, and I think a lot of it is focussed in the first half of her character arc. A lot of my issues with it rise because Yennefer gets a lot of hate out of all the Witcher characters - search any platform and you’ll find people saying pretty vile things, and ranting about what a toxic bitch she is.

In contrast, a lot of other characters don’t get this kind of analysis or shakedown at all. I would argue that most characters throughout the series have some pretty ugly moments when they behave in ways that are not okay, but not all of them are called out of it equally. I think good examples of this are Geralt (who also behaves pretty in a shitty manner at different points in his arc) and Dandelion (misogyny, creepy dragon hunt moment with Yennefer, personally I’d argued that he participated in guilt-tripping Geralt into sleeping with someone he didn’t want to) but as fan fave male characters, they don’t get picked apart in the same way + if anyone tries, they’re going to have to fight furious fans.

👀 Do you have any words/phrases you use habitually? 

I sure do! In particular, something I've noticed I do is modifying what should be simple sentences/ideas maybe to the point of excess. "At least", several adverbs, all that. I'm trying to get better at keeping things simple though!

🤡 What’s the dumbest thing you’ve written?

None, because my ideas aren't dumb (see Drea I am taking what you said to heart!) They are silly, though, almost always - and maybe it's recency bias, but my latest fic (an influencer + secret pen pals AU) is the silliest of all.
