It’s lonely at the top
Part 1 | part 2 | here / final part

“You need to give him some space,” Robin said over the phone. Eddie frowned. It’s been three days. He missed Steve. He nearly leaped over the couch to answer the phone, assuming it was him. Robin was the next best, he guessed. “You really hurt him.”
“I know,” Eddie said. “And I’m sorry. I really am. Will you tell him I’m done with the parties? Done with Trick? He means more to me than being liked.”
“Yeah,” Robin huffed. “You sure showed him that.”
“I mean it,” Eddie said honestly. “I do. I’m done with it all.”
“I think you need to tell him that yourself,” Robin said.
“How can I?” Eddie asked. “You won’t let me talk to him.”
“He doesn’t want to talk to you,” Robin corrected. “You need to let him be ready to accept you.”
Eddie sighed, pressing his forehead against the cabinet where the phone hung. He wished there was a way to tell Steve how sorry he was. As much as Eddie wanted to take the Green line to Robin’s dorm and talk to Steve, he can’t cross that boundary. But he needed a way to pour out his emotions, to let Steve know that he’s loved. That Eddie’s sorry. “Can I — Can I send him a letter? That way when he’s ready, he knows I’m there for him?”
There was silence on the other line as Robin thought it over. “Yeah, okay,” she said. “Just address it to me. He’s not …”
“Supposed to be there,” Eddie nodded. “Yeah. I figured. Thank you, for being there for him.”
“Yeah. Look,” Robin huffed. “If he does let you back in again, and you fuck up again. It’s your balls, Munson.”
“Understood,” Eddie said. “I promise. Never again.”
Robin hung up with a click. Eddie sighed, running his hands over his face. He fucked up. Bad.
He guessed there was no time to start writing like the present.

“Steve, someone at table 13 requested you personally,” Jenny, the hostess said. “He’s — uh — a little scary. So if you have issues, get Rod.”
“Thanks, Jenny,” Steve said, pulling his order book from his apron. He wasn’t sure who would request him at 3 pm. Most of his early birds on Saturdays stop by the diner for brunch and he barely saw a soul until 5.
When they first moved out to Chicago, Steve had no clue what he was going to do for work. He was attending Harold Washington College to get his associates in early education, and then potentially apply to UIC. Then one day, he got off a stop too early and saw the help wanted sign. It was easy for him to pick up, he made decent tips, and it worked with his schedule well. Plus, he was able to take home food at the end of his shift.
Robin’s been enjoying the pancakes lately.
Plus, Steve loved when it was slow and Eddie would —
He closed his eyes, letting the thought disappear. He missed Eddie. His heart ached any time he thought about him. But he was afraid that Eddie didn’t miss him in the same way.
He took a deep breath and plastered on a fake smile as he greeted his table.
“Hi, welcome in. I’m Steve. I’ll be taking care —“ Steve stopped as he looked at the patron. He felt his lips turn into a frown. “Trick?”
“Patrick’s fine,” Trick winked. “I mean, we’re in your court, aren’t we?”
“Yeah, sure,” Steve nodded. He pressed his lips together, feeling like he couldn’t stop staring at the black and blue circles under his eyes. “What happened to your — uh —“ he gestured to his own face. He winced. Trick didn’t like him in the first place. He wouldn’t give Steve the time of day. Why would he bother to tell him about an injury like that. “Sorry — shouldn’t have asked that. What can I get started for you?”
“Your boyfriend, actually,” Trick smirked. It was like ice water was dumped over Steve as the words washed over him. Trick’s smirk dropped. He leaned over the table. His voice dropped to a whisper. “Hey — hey, sorry. I didn’t mean — It’s cool. It’s — Eddie and you — are cool, I mean.”
Steve wasn’t sure if he felt any better or worse. All he could say was, “Oh.”
“Yeah, uh —“ Trick ran his fingers over his buzzed hair and exhaled. “Half of our friends are gay or lesbian or queer. It’s — that’s fine. Promise.”
“Oh,” Steve repeated. He sat on the other side of the booth, across from Trick. “Okay.”
“I just —“ Trick looked up to the ceiling before turning his attention back to Steve. “We shouldn’t have judged you. We saw you and immediate thought you were gonna be some straight jackass like we’ve dealt with our whole lives. We built this community of accepting outcasts, and outcasted you while doing so.”
Oh.
Steve wasn’t sure what to think.
When Eddie and him started to date, the Corroded Coffin boys treated him similarly. But Eddie called them out on that before it got bad.
Before it got like this.
“I guess what I wanted to say was sorry,” Trick said. “For pushing you out. And name calling.”
Steve furrowed his brow. “I don’t recall any name calling?”
“Yeah, you weren’t around for that,” Trick winced, gesturing to his nose. “Eddie made sure I knew that was wrong.”
“Eddie,” Steve breathed. “My Eddie?”
“Yep,” Trick said. “I hope he gave you a big apology for everything. So, tell me. What do you got that’s good to eat here?”
Steve took Trick’s order — one strawberry milkshake and an order of fruit loaded French toast — sent it to the kitchen, then went into the bathroom. He shut the door behind him and pulled out Eddie’s letter from his apron pocket. The first letter arrived last Monday. And he received a letter every day that he’s stayed with Robin.
With a shaky breath, Steve opened the letter.
💌💌💌💌
Dear Steve, there’s nothing in the world that I can do to make this up to you. But I will try every day to make sure that you don’t ever forgotten again. You are the stars that light my way home, the sun that brings warmth into my light, and the moon that shines love over me. To experience your love is something truly unreal. And to think I put you on the back burner for a taste of popularity? It was like the Ring of Power overtook my mind. I got lost in the feeling of being admired by many, I forgot what it’s like to be loved by one. I’d travel to Mordor and back for you. Through the Gap of Rohan and through the Mines of Mora.
In a world where everyone could know my name, I’d only want to know yours.
My apologies will never be enough. Love, Eddie
💌💌💌💌
I hope you are well. I hope your classes are going good and that you’re excelling. I know you are. You’re so fucking smart, you blow me away with every new piece of knowledge you brought home. I hope that basketball at the YMCA is going good. I’m sorry I missed your last couple of games. There is no excuse. I hope one day you’d allow me to be by your side again, cheering you on.
You deserve the world, baby. Nothing will stop me from showing you that. Everything from the water in the rivers to the trees in the forest. From the canyons in Arizona to the mountains in Colorado. It’s yours. It’s all yours. You deserve everything. You deserve the best. And I promise that I will prove that.
Forever in love, Eddie
💌💌💌💌
I’d move heaven and hell
Just to see you smile again
Or remember how it felt
To have you in my arms
When I begged God for mercy
In the depth of hells
It was nothing compared
To begging for the mercy of you
To hear you laugh, to see you smile
To counting the stars across your skin
To pick up where we left off
To start all over again
I’d move heaven and hell for you
💌💌💌💌
Steve folded the letters, slipping them back into the envelope and set them on his nightstand.
He laid back down, turning to his side. Eddie’s side of the bed was empty. Like it has been for four days.
After Steve read the first letter, he found his way back to their apartment. Eddie was hope and nearly wrapped his arms around Steve, stopping as if there was an invisible barrier in between them. Eddie stopped, respecting that boundary at the threshold.
It was Steve to crack.
Steve who took that step over the threshold and fell into Eddie’s arms, burying his face into Eddie’s neck. Eddie wrapped his arms around Steve, holding him tight. “I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry,” was all Eddie could say.
They agreed they needed to slowly integrate back into each others’ lives. Communicate when they’re feeling alone and listen when one’s feeling distressed. Nightmares seemed easier to deal with, but they were going to work it through.
Eddie said he would sleep on the couch until Steve was ready for him. “No matter how long it takes, sweetheart,” Eddie said, pressing a kiss against Steve’s knuckles. “When you’re ready for me, I’m here.”
And Eddie truly meant that. They could go back to just friends and Eddie would accept it. He would be heartbroken, but to have Steve in his life again?
That’s worth everything to Eddie.
Eddie was jostled awake, feeling the couch cushion shift underneath him. The blanket on his body lifted up and a familiar weight settle on his chest. He felt at home again. Eddie tugged the blanket back over the both of them, one hand around Steve’s waist and the other tangled in his hair as Steve laid his head on Eddie’s chest. Eddie pressed a kiss to Steve’s temple, taking a silent vow to never lose him again.
“Goodnight, sweetheart.”

The house is empty and Jake is over. You couldn’t help but just… grind on it. He’s too hot.

"Little sips only," he tells you before handing the alcohol back to you. You two passed the bottle back and forth until both of your cheeks were slightly red now.
You invited Jake to come over since your parents were out together. They weren’t strict, no. They had no issue with Jake coming over, except… the door had to be open.
Obviously, you two weren’t going to “bang” with your parents' home regardless, but you didn’t like the thought of having one of them walk into you and Jake kissing.
"Your ears are red," you giggled after pointing it out. "And so are yours," Jake also points out. You both giggled, letting your feet dangle off the bed. You turned your head and took the time to admire his facial features.
Handsome.
Jake's eyes shifted and locked eyes with you as I looked away shyly. "I caught youuu," he teased, pointing the finger at you. "Nuh-uh," you say, looking away. Thank god your cheeks were red already.
"Mmm, I'm sure I caught you just now..." "Nope." Jake chuckles at your words. "It's okay to stare, I stare at you all the time." You snapped your head towards him. "Creep." Jake scoots closer and leans in. "Your creep," he smiles, acting innocent.
You playfully shoved his chest, only for him to lean back in. "Are you asking to get caught?" You scolded him. "Mmm... your parents aren’t here yet..." Jake says, leaning in closer until you feel his breath fanning against your face.
"And if they do?" You ask quietly, your eyes unable to look away from his lips. "Then we pretend," he answers in a low voice then guides you on his lap.
You sat in his lap comfortably, wrapping your arms around his neck. You leaned down a bit and pressed your lips on his. You felt him smile through your kiss as he snaked his arms around your waist, pulling you closer.
Your fingers run through his hair, pulling him closer to you. His thumb traces small circles on your hips that bring some sort of comfort.
Naturally, your hips slowly started moving. Jake suddenly felt tense below you but gradually relaxed his muscles and let you do as you pleased.
At this point, you felt his growing bulge pressed against you. Jake pulled away from the kiss and said breathily, "Horny?" You slowly grinded on him and looked at him with red cheeks, "Maybe."
"Hurry then."
That's all it took for you to continue. Even though you were both clothed, you felt his bulge so prominently through his sweats and your shorts.
Soft stuttered moans fell from your lips as you felt the friction rub against your clit every now and then.
"Aren't you making a mess, pretty girl, hm?" Jake mumbles against your collarbone, leaving small kisses. You only whined as your hips kept moving.
His grip on your hips tightened as he pants against your neck. "You're so fucking lucky I can't pin you down and fuck you right now," Jake mumbles. He knew your parents would be home soon, he couldn’t risk anything.
His lips were parted as he let out low-deep moans, his eyelids halfway closed like he was in a daze. You bit down on your lip, not wanting to make a noise from how hot he looked and sounded. It only brought you closer to your climax.
“Yeah, y-yeah, grind on it, baby.” "C-Close," you softly cried out, gripping his shoulders as you felt the pleasure rise. "I got you, baby," Jake says with a heavy breath, helping you move your hips.
"Fuck, I'm almost there, baby. Hold on." Jake thrusts up against your core even if you were both clothed, trying to create more friction.
"Jake..." you whined his name, brows furrowed as you felt your climax approach closer. "S-Shit, baby. I got you, I got you. Cum for me, baby."
A silent moan left your lips as the right band in you snapped. Your head dropped on his shoulder. You tried to grind on his hard bulge to bring him to his climax with the power you had left.
His hands squeezes your ass as he thrusts up one more time before pressing your hips down on him. "Oh, fuck, baby," he breaths out, making a mess in his boxers.
Your muscles relaxed themselves as your limbs dropped after you both released. The sticky feeling between your legs made you feel uncomfortable, but you couldn't care at that moment.
Jake leans back with an airy chuckle, "What a mess." You tiredly nodded, your head resting in the crook of his neck. "You okay?" "Mhm, just tired," you chuckled with some energy you had.
"Let's go clean up real quick, okay?" Jake suggested. You hummed, feeling your being lift up in his arms.

Jegulus Celebrity (?) AU where the Marauders are a band, Jamed is a singer-songwriter, and Regulus has a podcast
Regulus is 23 and has an anonymous podcast called the Black Lake. Mostly, he goes on tangents about songs, current events, and poetry, and people listen to a faceless man because it's just so damn interesting
And if James is a little obsessed with it? If he listens to each episode, no matter what it's about, as soon as it's released because the host of the Black Lake has a dangerously addictive voice and he can't sleep without hearing it? If there's something infinitely captivating about hearing him analyze James' songs and their lyrics and what he thinks they mean and just getting it?
Regulus doesn't do interviews despite popular request because he just doesn't want to. James says fuck it and sends an email asking for one anyway. Except there's a catch: He'll be interviewed and answer anything, as long as Regulus shows at least half of his face
And, look, Regulus isn't stupid. He keeps tabs on the Marauders because of his brother, though they haven't spoken since Sirius ran away from home and Regulus became a ghost. Knows James is Sirius' best friend. But he's also hot. An excellent songwriter. A great singer. All things Regulus admirers
So they do an interview and people go fucking crazy because it's famous, elusive James Potter and effortlessly sly and charming Host of the Black Lake and -
are they flirting?
Apparently the bottom half of Regulus' face is all James needed to say
"You look like someone I know."
"Calling my face boring, Potter?"
"On the contrary, I'm calling your face beautiful. And I'd like for it to be a familiar as well."
The interview goes viral. Regulus asks the best, most thought-provoking questions and their chemistry is off the fucking charts
Except a couple months pass and then James Potter releases a single where one of the verses is "And you scoff and twist your lips / In your mind love is just a myth / The words 'don't expect forever / Because this is only for the summer'"
And people lost it once more. They ask Regulus to review the song, as he has done for so much of the Marauders' music in the past. And he does. Says the lyrics describe the situation of two crazy kids thinking they can make it work without thinking of the consequences of their actions
Then journalist Rita Skeeter writes an artical exposing the host of the Black Lake to be famous exiled heir Regulus Black, brother to Sirius Black, ex boyfriend to Sirius' best friend James Potter. Calls James many not nice things
And Regulus responds, quite reasonably he feels, with a podcast episode verbally dragging the shit out of her. Calls her a conniving, thoughtless bitch who relies on sensationalism to keep herself popular because she has no real personality to stand on. Demands she keeps James Potter out of her articles because his name alone is much prettier than anything she could ever write, and she'll embarrass herself trying
And if James finds this undeniably hot? If he calls Regulus later saying thank you? Well, then that's for just them to know
But there is song that releases two months after, the closing lyric being
"My eternal city of lost love returned / A battle of wrongdoing and hearts hard-earned / And you ask 'if we've already been through the harsh and bitter / then why not make this forever?'"

Note: merry monday.

I love you all immensely. Take care. 💖
You nearly plunge under the water as you tear away from Bucky’s grip. The thrum of the hot tub jets hum a low drown beneath the thumping of your heartbeat. Your thighs are hot and jittery. Your limbs feel disjointed from the rest of you.
“Baby girl?” He purrs and reaches for you again. “Where you going?”
You flail and twist in the water. You splash to the edge and hook your leg over gracelessly. You barely keep from flopping out onto the ground. You get your feet set and scramble away, wiping the speckle of water from your cheeks as water slakes from your shorts down your legs.
He chuckles and the water stirs with his movement. Is he following you? You don’t wait to see as you race for the back door.
Your adrenaline distorts the sunlight and noise of birds. You stumble inside, clinging to the door handle as your feet slip on the tile. You whimper and rush across the kitchen. You’re dizzy with confusion and fear.
What just happened? What did he do? What did you do?! You’re just as guilty. You got in that hot tub, you let him get close, and then you... you did exactly what he accused you of.
You stagger upstairs, so frantic you use your hands in a half-crawl on the ascent. You pump your legs and arms and charge into your bedroom. You slam the door and lean against it, panting. You close your mouth as you tamp down your breath and listen to the house.
You don’t hear anything. You close your eyes and turn your head straight. Your clothes are wet and sopping, cooling as they stick uncomfortably to your skin. Your hand shakes as you feel along the front of your shorts.
You slip your fingers under the mattress and your insides clench. Just the way the seam brushes against your cunt makes you squirm. You feel swollen and a bit sore.
Oh god. You really did that. You’re not ignorant. You might be inexperienced but you’re human, you’ve been curious, and lonely. But that...
That was wrong. Your mother’s boyfriend just watched you cum. He as good as made you himself. Then he tried to kiss you--
How are you going to explain all this?
“Baby girlllll,” Bucky calls out. His voice is distant, “why’d you run away, doll? We were just getting started.” His timbre gets closer, he must be by the stairs. “Look at this mess you made. There’s water all over.”
You hear him coming up the stairs, slow like a predator. He takes a deep breath and lets in out in a snicker. His steps clap down the hallway.
“What am I gonna do with a dirty girl like you? Didn’t you already shower?” He clicks his tongue in disapproval. “Bad girl.”
You whimper as he taps on the other side of your door. You cross your arms, holding yourself as a chill ripples over you. Goosebumps pinpoint over your skin painfully.
“Hey, baby girl, we can go slow,” he jiggles the handle and you turn to grasp it, stilling his attempt to get in. “I just wanna have a look--”
There’s a sudden honk. The little toot that comes from clicking the lock button on a key tag. You know it. It’s your mom’s car. You gulp and the tension loosens from the door handle. He sighs.
“Shit...” the growl follows him to the opposite end of the hall.
You hear rustling. You’re not sure what’s going on but you’re not coming out until your mom’s inside. The front door opens with the jingle of her keys and you ready yourself to run out and say everything.
“Hey, honey,” Bucky’s voice keeps you pent up. “You’re home. Oh, be careful.” His weight creaks at the top of the stairs. “I was just about to get her to come clean that up. She wanted to try out the hot tub and think she forgot her towel.”
What? No? He’s making it sound totally different.
“Just been mowing the lawn,” he continues.
“I saw that, honey,” your mom trills. “You are just the best, Bucky,” she comes up the stairs. “Oh, look at all this water.”
You open the door, “mom! Mom, you’re home--”
You hurry forward and she stops a few steps down to look at you.
“Oh, sweetie, you tracked water all inside,” she tuts.
“What? Mom--” you pause and look at Bucky. He’s dressed. A tee and jeans. His hairs a bit damp but it could just as easily be sweat... from mowing the lawn. You cringe. “Sorry, but--”
“Oh, and why aren’t you wearing a proper swimsuit?” She reproaches. She comes up and sidles past Bucky with a whisper. He steps aside and turns to watch you over her shoulder. She gets to you and ushers you back to the room, “get changed and go find a mop.”
“Mom--”
“No, sweetie,” she glances back over her shoulder, “Oh, Bucky, do me a favour and put the kettle on for me.”
“Sure, honey,” he agrees.
She faces you again and he winks at you. Your mouth opens speechlessly. You shake your head.
“Look, I don’t want to embarrass you,” she lowers her voice as Bucky descends. “But I can see right through that shirt.”
You hug yourself and frown, “mom...” your lip trembles as you search her face. This looks bad but not for you. You don’t think she’ll believe you and you don’t think you would either. You’re soaking wet and a mess and he has the tan to prove his hard work. “I’ll clean it up.”
“Alright, and if you’re gonna be in the hot tub. Take a towel.” She gives a half-smile then turns to head down to her own room. “I might just get in myself after today.”
She disappears into her bedroom and you stare after her. Shell shocked. How did this happen? The morning is just a smear in your mind.
You twitch as a high-pitched noise tweaks in your ear. Bucky whistles in the kitchen. He’s taunting you, mocking you. He played you like a toy, in more ways than one.
💙
You clean up the floors and do your best to avoid Bucky. Thankfully, your mom is a buffer between you. When you dry up the puddles left from your flight, you hide in your room. You don’t think that will be too suspicious; it's what you typically do.
What isn’t usual is how your stomach bubbles like an overheated pot. You can’t get comfortable, you can’t focus, and you can barely think of anything but that morning. You retrace every step, ever word, and try to find one moment where you can’t blame yourself.
What were you doing? You touched him, you brought him coffee, you got in that hot tub with him. You didn’t even try to push him away when he got too close.
There’s a knock at the door just as you feel like you could doze off. It’s not a good time. Nearly six. You sit up and stare at the wood.
“Um, hello?” You call out.
“Sweetie, it’s mum. Bucky ordered some pad thai for dinner. Why don’t you come have some?” She asks.
“Oh, er... I’m not very hungry,” you reply.
“Right, but, well, I haven’t gotten to see much of you since you got back and I gotta work again tomorrow,” she counters. “If you’re not hungry, why don’t you just come out and spend some time with me?”
You feel that pang in your chest. Not just for having neglected her but for everything else. Bucky should be focused on her, not you. What did you do to spoil that in less than a day?
“Alright,” you relent.
You get up and pull on a loose sweatshirt over your tee. You wear loose linen pajamas on the bottom. You open the door and your mom looks you over.
“Oh, honey, you’re not going to wear that, are you?”
“Are we going somewhere?” You ask.
“No, but... Bucky’s here.”
“Uh, yeah, okay. I’ll... I’ll meet you down there, I guess.”
“Nothing special,” she says. “Just real clothes.”
You nod and shut the door. You frown. She never cared as much before.
You switch out your lounge wear for some jeans and a seersucker shirt. There’s nothing provocative about you. Never has been.
You go down to find your mom and Bucky in the kitchen. She has a plate of noodles and a smile. “Smells, delicious, huh, honey?” She says as she passes.
“Sure,” you agree.
“Come here, baby girl,” Bucky drawls, his back to you, “I’ll serve you.”
You’re mom’s already in the dining room. You drag your feet forward. He twirls noodles with a pair of tongs and piles them on a scallop-edged plate. He turns to you.
“Not the only thing that looks delicious,” he growls in a low tone.
You clutch the plate and your eyes round, “thanks.”
You quickly take it and spin away, nearly spilling it on the floor. You hurry out to the table and heave shakily as you sit. Your mom waits, nails tapping on the table.
“Don’t start until everyone’s sat,” she warns. You’re in no hurry to eat, just to be gone.
Bucky enters with a plate of his own, “forgot this.”
He sets a pair of chopsticks next to you. You look at them then sense someone watching you. Your mom. You eke out a thank you.
“Well, this is nice. How long’s it been since we had a proper family dinner, boo?” She chimes.
“Uh, yeah,” you agree and split the chop sticks. Bucky does the same, deftly perching them between his fingers.
“Family,” Bucky hums. “Yeah, it’s nice.”
Your mom smiles and your heart shrivels.
“Well, I think we need to be honest with each other,” she begins. Your temples beat and your cheeks draw. You glance at Bucky. He's unbothered. “I did have a reason for asking you to come down for dinner, hon.” She looks at you. “I have a surprise?”
“Oh?” Bucky intones. “You do. Well, looks like we’ll both be surprised.”
“Ha, Bucky,” she grins at him. “It’s nothing special, really.”
“A job?” He wonders.
“If only,” she twists the noodles around her chop sticks. “But, I know that you’re looking hard, sweetie. No, it’s something that might keep you busy.”
“Interesting,” he remarks.
You’re nervous. If it’s not a job, maybe more chores. She would think that’s an exciting conversation.
“A date!” She proclaims then stuffs her mouth full of noodles.
You blink and Bucky pinches at his noodles. He takes a smaller bite and chews. You refuse to look at him.
“A date?” You murmur.
“Sure,” she says through her mouthful then swallows. “You’re more than old enough and I know you were so focused in school. It’s about time. And he’s a very nice boy.”
“A nice boy? You know a lot of those, Laur?” Bucky asks.
“Oh, come on, I’m well above his age range. No, you’ll love him, sweetie. Oh, he’s adorable.”
“You know him well?” Bucky challenges.
“Are you so worried? She’s young. And I know his aunt. He has a good reference,” she trills back.
“Shouldn’t she focus on the job hunt first?”
“Relax, she has time for both.”
“Well... what do you think?” He directs his attention to you.
Your eyes dart between him and your mother. He doesn’t look as calm anymore. There’s a furrow between his brows and a dimple in his cheek. You suppose any excuse is good to get some space.
“It’s really nice of you to think of me, mom. Sure, I... I wouldn’t want to disappoint anyone,” you shrug.
“No, you wouldn’t,” Bucky drones.
Your mom smiles, completely oblivious to his chagrin. “Well, it’s going to be so nice. Oh, why don’t we go and buy you a new dress? That’d would be perfect.”
Bucky hums dully and pokes at his plate. You do the same. You're not the best with strangers, and obviously, not with men. But someone your age would be easier to let down. Besides, it will get you out of the house.

The restaurants and bars of New York City buzzed with couples enjoying the day of love. Couples scrolling the streets hand in hand, their faces glowing with affection completely unaware of the chaos that was brewing. You and Natasha walked side by side, enjoying the fresh city air that filled your lungs.
“Do you think Fury’s going to let us enjoy this mandated ‘team bonding’?” You asked, looking over to Natasha. Her expression was always a carefully constructed mask of composure, always knowing her surroundings better than anybody else.
“Doubtful” The redhead murmured, “Fury’s idea of bonding usually involves defusing a bomb or chasing down some crazed scientists. Besides, I saw Agent Hill giving him a particularly pointed look this morning when he tried to schedule a debriefing” she added with a light chuckle.
“Poor Hill, she’s always cleaning up after him” You replied, playfully shaking your head.
Suddenly, the city’s cheerful vibe shattered. Streetlights flickered; car alarms blared as traffic came to a halt. Passing strangers stopped in their tracks as panic filled their minds. “What the hell?” You mummed as your eyes took in every new detail about your surroundings.
“Doesn’t look good” Nat’s eyes narrowed, scanning the scene before her. “Look at the traffic lights” She added, catching your attention. Everywhere you looked, something new caught your attention, you watched as civilians hurried inside buildings unsure of what to expect.
Natasha’s phone buzzed urgently. She answered and listened intently for a moment before hanging up. “Well, looks like our team bonding is about to be put to use” she said, looking to you. “Hydra have hacked into the city’s infrastructure. Seems like they’re targeting essential services” she explained.
“The world can never just have a normal day, can it?” You replied dryly, shoving your hands into your pockets as Natasha shot you a smirk, “Come on, we have a city to save. Unless you have Valentines plans?”.
You playfully rolled your eyes, “you know how I feel about this stupid day”.
As you and Natasha navigated through the wave of panicked pedestrians, you couldn’t help but notice how Nat moved with a balletic grace. A group of thugs, clearly running off the thrill of the sudden chaos, attempted to mug a couple. Natasha rolled her eyes before she was able to disarm them in seconds in a blur of perfectly executed strikes.
“Woah! W-we were just playing around!” One of the thugs said with his hands in the air.
“I suggest you get out of her before my friend playfully shoots you in the kneecaps!” You said sternly, titling your head slightly to the left. The group of thugs scrambled faster than you thought they would, dropping the handbag they had pinched from the younger woman.
“Thank you! Oh my god! Thank you!” The civilian smiled in relief, picking up her bag from the cold ground.
“Don’t mention it” Natasha replied softly, “you both should get home” she added. The two women smiled at you both once more before making their way home.
“Those thugs, they seemed a little too organised” You said, as Nat turned to you.
“I agree, could be some distracting from HYDRA”.
The two of you moved faster, following the trail of disrupt and piled up traffic. The horns of multiple cars filled the streets of New York followed by the yelling of civilians frustrated by the pile up and confusion. Waving through the crowds of concerned people, you and Natasha eventually found yourself heading towards the outskirts of the city.
Soon, the two of you came to an abandoned warehouse, from afar you could see armored guards wearing masks surrounding the entrance. You couldn’t help the smirk that tugged at your lips as you looked over to Natasha, “Now this is what I call a Valentines gift!”.
Natasha playfully shook her head at your sarcasm, “We have to be careful here, there is more of them then there is of us” she reminded you.
“Please don’t ruin my fun with realistic facts” you side eyed her, “you ready, Black Widow?” You asked.
“Let the team bonding begin” she replied.
Silently taking down the guards outside the warehouse was almost a little too easy, the two of you working together without speaking a word but using hand gestures. You moved cautiously with Natasha leading the way, her senses just that little more enhanced than yours. Once inside, the scene was exactly as you expected. Computers humming, wires snaking across the floor and more HYDRA soldiers than you cared to count. In the center of it all, was a man hunched over a keyboard, this fingers flying across the keys.
“Y/n!” Natasha yelled, dodging a blow from a soldier that came out of the darkness and kicking him into a nearby wall. Now all the other soldiers were alerted of your uninvited presence. The stray blast caught you off guard, tearing through your side.
“I’m fine!” You called back, as you stumbled backwards, clutching at your wound. Trying to ignore the pain, you managed to take down the soldier with your gun before tucking for cover behind a steel crate. Bullets flew around you as you did your best to help Natasha take out the remaining soldiers.
With brutal efficiency, Natasha was able to take down most of the soldiers before the last remaining ones hurried towards the leader of all the chaos. “Go Nat!” You commanded, wanting to end this mission before any more damage could be done. But Natasha, as furious as she was, watched the soldiers hurry the man to safety.
“Forget them!” She replied, rushing to your side. “Let me see” she said, her voice soft.
“I told you I’m fine; it’s just a scratch!” You gasp, trying to downplay your pain.
“Don’t be ridiculous! That’s more than a scratch!” The Avenger replied as she applied pressure to your wound, “you need medical attention” She added as your eyes met. Beyond the concern in the emerald eyes, you were reminded of the affection you had for her, those deep feelings you had for her that you had buried deep down.
“We have to stop them” you said, breaking the silence.
Natasha hesitated, looking around her before meeting your eyes once more, “Fine” she said with a firm voice, “but we are going straight to medical as soon as this is over”.
You nodded, not wanting to push Nat too much. She found a jacket on the floor, left behind by one of the soldiers. Using her dagger, she cut the sleeve off to wrap around your wound, pulling it tight. “Which way did they go?” You asked, taking the redhead’s hand as she helped you off the ground.
“This direction” Nat pointed.
Together, you burst into the main server room, the man from before was hunched over the desk, in a panic as he was yelling and typing away. The remaining soldiers pointed their guns at you as the door behind you locked.
“You can’t stop us!” The HYDRA scientist spat, turning on his heels to face the two of you, “HYDRA will rise!”.
“You can rise in hell!” Natasha spat; her swift moves quickly took down two of the soldiers while you focused on taking down the other two. “It ends here!” You said, your voice cold as you shot the last HYDRA soldier.
“You Avengers know nothing!” The older man spat once more, “you will never save the world from what is to come! This world belongs to HYDRA!” He added, drawing his weapon.
“Really?” You said, cocking a brow at the scientist, “do you guys ever have something new to say?” You added, confusing the man as Natasha got closer to him.
“Your pathetic team is no match for HYDRA’s new soldiers! We will take over the world and end all of you so called Avengers”
You chuckled at the scientists’ confidence, “yeah, yeah. HYDRA is so strong, and we are all weak, save me the yawn! At least Thanos put up a fight” you teased. The man’s eyes narrowed, “you want a fight? You will soon get one!” His gun pointed directly at you.
“Maybe so, but it won’t be from you” Natasha smirked before knocking the scientist out cold. You let out a sigh of relief before allowing yourself to drop to the ground again, “Fury! We got him but you need to get here now! Avenger down” Natasha spoke into her phone as she rushed to your side.
----
The medical bay was sterile, calm and quiet. Your eyes flickered open as you came to your senses, the soft sound of beeping monitors assured you that you were still alive. Natasha was sat beside your bed, her gaze fixed on you, watching over you like a hawk.
“It’s rude to stare” You spoke softly, breaking the silence.
“Good to hear you haven’t lost your sense of humour” Natasha smiled softly.
You looked to her, “thanks, for saving my life”.
Natasha’s eyes softened, “you’ve would’ve done the same for me”.
Looking into her eyes, you were reminded of the feelings you had kept buried. You gently reached for her hand, it was no or never you told yourself. “Nat” you began, “back at the warehouse….”
“Don’t worry about that. All that matters is that you’re okay” Natasha shifted, her voice barely above a whisper.
“Its not that.....you know how you’ve always wonder why I hate this stupid holiday?”
Natasha nodded, “because its cheesy, right?”
You shook your head gently, “no….I mean, it’s a little because of that but its more because….I don’t get to spend it with you”.
The silence hung thick in the air, Natasha’s eyes glued to you as different thoughts ran through her mind and emotions warring across her face. Finally, her voice laced with vulnerability broke the silence.
“I’m a weapon, Y/n” she began, shaking her head, “I destroy everything I touch”.
“That’s not true” you assured her, squeezing her hand. “You’re anything but a weapon, Natasha. You’re beautiful, kind, strong, loving and you inspire so many people to be better. You deserve happiness”.
Her eyes searched yours, seeking reassurance that you weren’t just saying this because of the pain killers in your system. “You deserve to be loved” you added.
“I’ve never been more scared of something in my entire life” The redhead began, “if I ruin this…I can’t” she added.
“Hey, it’s okay. I’m scared too” you confessed with a soft smile, “but I’m more scared of continuing life without telling you how I feel”. With a deep sigh, Nat leaned forward, closing the gap between you two. “I hate how you have a point” she admitted, her lips ever so slightly brushing against yours.
“I know” you whispered before her lips captured yours in a gentle but deep kiss. All your feelings came to the surface as the kiss deepened and Natasha’s hands softly cupping your face.
“Once you’re out of here, I want to give you a valentines date” Natasha whispered against your lips as she slowly pulled away. You smiled, “what was wrong with tonight’s date?” You teased, making Natasha playfully roll her eyes.
“I’d like on where you don’t get shot” she replied.
“I suppose that is a fair deal”.
Natasha poured two paper cups of water, handing one to you, “to surviving valentines day” she said, raising her cup.
You laughed, “to literally surviving valentines day!” You countered, clinking your paper cup with hers.

Ask Masterpost #5 -- 2/8/2025
Summary:
Permissibility of Friday Night Funkin' Mods (Allowed) with update about Rhythm Heaven songs
Permissibility of Lego Batman/Lego series games (Allowed if original compositions or remixes)
Permissibility of fansongs that eventually end up inside the game (Highly situational; Leaning towards not allowed)
Permissibility of licensed music from external/unaffiliated sources (Not allowed)
April Fools plans
Note about attribution corrections
Permissibility of scrapped songs (Not allowed)
Permissibility of songs officially posted by developers before game release (Allowed)
----------
no rush on answering this bc i know requests wont be open for a hot minute, but i have a question if u dont mind!
are songs from friday night funkin mods allowed? and if so, would it be the same as rhythm heaven songs, where you said just an instrumental should be submitted since the "vocals" are pretty distinct? thank u!! :]
Yes, they're allowed as long as you can credit the original creators and the mod is/was publicly playable in some capacity, not just existing as a youtube video. It's okay to have the vocals as well if you'd like! I think I misunderstood the rhythm heaven case (I thought it would be the menu music that plays after you complete the song/level, not the sfx that plays DURING the song) and will clarify that accordingly.
----------
What's the verdict on songs from games like Lego Batman? Where the music is at least partially based on (if not entirely the same as) music from films or television?
Totally fine if they're created or remixed for the video game, but I'm going to say no if they weren't originally made for the video game.
----------
@cloudyskies4 asked: if a song is fanmade but ended up getting used officially in a kinda fanmade modernization how would the source for that be handled?
I think this is HIGHLY situational and I would probably need to know the exact song this is referring to. Overall, I'm inclined to say no, because it wasn't an original composition for the game (by the team behind the game, that is).
----------
is music that was licensed for use in video games allowed? like if some rock song from the 80s was used in a game that came out in 2010. pretty sure it's a no on that front, but i wanted to double check. thank you!
No, because it wasn't composed for the game itself. Appreciate you double checking though! (I'm assuming this is referring to songs that are unchanged when included in the video game and not 'xyz franchise song remixed for xyz franchise video game' sort of thing)
----------
hi! i absolutely love this blog. and i appreciate the organizational work you're putting in! so thanks for not only running this blog but also introducing so many people to some damn good music.
since these are never official tracks, one event i think you could do for like, april fool's day or something is maybe using silvagunner rips under the same format. i think it'd be pretty fun!
I probably won't do anything for april fools simply because I don't really care for it :'). Thank you for enjoying the blog so much!!!
----------
[Any ask that's correcting me on an incorrect credit for a song]
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THESE. SERIOUSLY. If you put them in the notes it might be a hit or miss if I see them but if you send me an ask I WILL SEE IT and I WILL CORRECT IT IMMEDIATELY. Proper attribution is important to me and I appreciate everyone who helps me stick to that! This isn't an ask, but I wanted to address it anyways.
----------
might be a silly question but are scrapped video game songs allowed? i know submissions are closed, im just asking so that i dont send something thats not allowed when submissions open :]
I'm going to say no, just because they were scrapped and therefore not intended for the final product :'). No such thing as a silly question!
----------
If the game hasn't been released yet, but a song from the game *has* been officially posted by the devs beforehand, is that okay to submit? I figured it's a yes but I just wanted to be extra sure for when Jan 1st submissions roll around :)
If the song has been officially posted by the devs (and is the full song, not the BGM for a trailer) and you can credit the composer than absolutely!! (assuming the song is going to be in the game, of course). And I'm sorry there were no submissions on Jan 1st... I'm still trying to clear through the ones we have already :')

Hello :) thank you so much for writing these propmts! I would like to request number 8 with landoscar (i dont know if this is allowed or not so please feel free to ignore this but i would love if it was about Oscars broken rib. However i will totally appreciate everything you write!!)
of course you're allowed to ask!!!! i'm pretty chill about trying to make requests fit the request! unless it's something i'm absolutely weirded out by. so no worries there.
from this prompt list here, number 8: "are you hurt"
Apologies again, this isn't really angst despite the "angsty prompt list" i'm apparently only capable of writing SOFT
It's hard to breathe, when he gets out of the car, can't stop himself from letting out a long, hissing breath as he frees himself. He sees the team waiting for him already as he climbs out, bated breath and broad grins. It feels good, knowing they're waiting for him, but he has to prepare himself.
He's already overstimulated from the pain, knows he's going to have to talk to Kim about it, but it's not like they have infinite amounts of time between Austria and Silverstone. He's probably just going to have to put his head down and grin through it. After all, it's what he's good at anyways. He hugs them, allows for pats on the back, gritting his molars together as sparks burst behind his eyelids. He just needs to make it through the podium, and then he can lie flat on his back in his driver's room and breathe through it.
Pop some extra strength ibuprofen and hope it's enough. Wonders if it's a pulled muscle, a pressure injury, even. He hopes that it's an easy fix, because he can't imagine sitting any part of this season out. Not with their car being a rocket ship. Not with the team where they are in the standings.
The podium celebration happens in a blur, leans himself into Carlos a little too heavily when his vision goes a little blurry from the pain of keeping himself completely upright. Knows his face probably looks deathly pale, but hopes no one else notices. He's relatively unscathed, when he makes it off the podium.
He's still got media left to do, still has the post race press conference, and the longer time stretches, the more exhausting it feels. The more energy it requires. It all passes in a blur, he can't remember the answers that spill out of his mouth to the questions he's asked. Knows that George and Carlos can probably tell that something's wrong, but they're probably not about to ask them what. Especially not George, riding the high of his victory.
When it's all over, he stumbles back to his driver's room, catches a glimpse of himself in the mirror, cheeks flushed, eyes fever bright, he doesn't know why anyone didn't stop him.
It's slow-going to get his fireproofs off, every movement sending a sharp pain through his side, exacerbated by every breath he takes. He's only got them stripped to the waist when there's a knock on the door.
He opens it, and his mouth opens, and then closes, before he steps out of the way, wordlessly. Letting Lando barrel past him and flop down dramatically on the massage table in the middle of the room. It was a shit race for Lando, and Oscar knows he has to be fuming. He's just not sure he has the energy for it right now, doesn't have the energy to listen to Lando bitch about Max. All he wants to do is put something comfortable on, crawl into a car, and then crawl into his hotel bed, and sleep until morning before they have to repeat the week all over again, but at Silverstone instead.
"You alright?" he asks, trying to muffle the gasp of pain that escapes as he bends over to finish pushing off his fireproofs. But Lando doesn't answer, and when Oscar looks up, Lando's looking at him, eyes laser focused, lips downturned.
"Are you hurt?" the question comes out forceful, almost accusatory, and Oscar nods, a short, sharp jerk of his head.
Lando pushes himself up into a sitting position, looks at him, head tilted. "You told Kim yet?" he asks, and Oscar's reminded of a dog, waiting for a bone. "Haven't had the chance, have I, mate?" he says, sharply, turning his back on Lando, forgoing peeling the rest of his suit off to pull off his fireproofs instead.
Lets Lando see the long, naked line of his back in hopes that it'll be enough of a distraction, as he pulls on a t-shirt, zips on a hoodie over it. He still has to change his bottoms, get himself out of the fireproof leggings and the rest of his suit, but the idea of it is exhausting. He wants to flop down onto the massage table like Lando did, and cease to exist for just a little while.
"How bad?" Lando's still on the topic, and Oscar wants to tell him to let it go. "Mind yours," he hisses through his teeth, as he runs a hand through his hair, moves towards his backpack, where he knows he has a stash of ibuprofen stored. Lando grabs his wrist as he walks by, and Oscar allows himself to be reeled in, until he's standing between Lando's spread legs, so close their noses are practically touching.
"How bad, Oscar?" Lando asks again, and Oscar swallows heavily, the click of his throat loud in the quiet of his driver's room. Darts his gaze to Lando's blue-green eyes, and then away again, unable to hold the intensity of his gaze.
"Hurts to breathe," he mutters, and Lando nods, brushes his thumb reassuringly over the slope of Oscar's wrist, before leaning in to press a kiss to his lips, soft and chaste.
"I'm getting Kim," Lando says, finality in his tone. And then he's hopping off the table and making a beeline for the door, turning back for one second to look at Oscar, eyes burning through him with their intensity.
"Stay," it's a command, if he's ever heard one.

It was purely a coincidence meeting him that day.
You have always been drawn to the forest—its lush canopy and the whispers of its inhabitants always leaving you in awe. So when you discovered the forest behind Night Raven's campus, you were so eager to free your schedule for a visit.
And when the time finally came, it was everything you've ever imagined. The forest was peaceful and quiet; a perfect place to take a break from the usual chaos surrounding you.
You were so busy admiring the place that you didn't notice what was in front of you and you tripped.
Something, or rather, someone, was lying on the ground where you were walking.
You wanted to say something to the stranger who made you trip, but the serene look on his face made you think otherwise.
Looking closely, the man, who was sleeping as you noticed, was quite handsome. Him, adding the tranquil backdrop the forest provided, made for a spectacular sight. Just like—
"Like a prince from a storybook..." you murmured.
Just then, the stranger opened his eyes and met yours, making you jump.
"...Um, hi?" you waved awkwardly as the man continued to stare at you.
He blinked for a few moments before sitting upright.
In a groggy voice, he asked, "What time is it?"
"Time? Well..." you paused for a moment to think. "I've been here for about 30 minutes now, and I came here at around 4 PM, so I'm guessing it's already 4:30 PM."
The man widened his eyes and stood up.
"I slept on for too long. I must hurry, or I'll be late. Thank you for your assistance."
He bowed, and before you could even say anything, he had already left.
You could only blink at how quickly everything had happened.
"What'cha up to, Prefect?"
You flinched when two hands suddenly grabbed you by the shoulders.
"Ace! You almost gave me a heart attack!" you shrilled.
"Haha, you shoulda seen the look on your face— ow! What the hell, dude! What was that for?"
Ace frowned at Deuce, who only sighed at his classmate's behavior.
"You shouldn't scare people like that, Ace." He then turned to look at you. "Anyways, what are you doing, Prefect?"
"Nothing much. I'm just drawing," you smiled, showing your sketchpad to the two.
"Woah, you're pretty damn good at this," Ace marveled as he looked through the pages.
"I didn't know you can draw," said Deuce.
You shrugged. "It's just one of my pastime hobbies."
"Ooh, who's this guy?" Ace pointed the latest illustration in your sketchpad.
It was the sleeping man you met in the forest.
"I don't know," you answered, taking your sketchpad back from Ace's hands.
"What do you mean "you don't know"?"
"I just told you. I don't know." You started to put away your stuff in your bag. "I never asked his name."
Ace raised a brow on your statement. "So you drew a guy you don't know? Like what, you got a crush on him or something?"
"Wha-?! No!" you sputtered. "I just thought he's pretty, okay? And I like drawing pretty things."
"Riiiight..." The ginger-haired teen smirked.
"I told you, that's not it!" you screeched, your cheeks slowly reddening at Ace's teasing.
But the boy only laughed at your reaction. Even Deuce couldn't help but laugh too.
You can only sigh in frustration. "Ugh, you guys are terrible!"
"I swear, those two..." you grumbled as you drew the wild anemone you found.
"Oh, it's you..."
"Huh?"
You whipped your head towards the voice. It was the man your friends were teasing you with earlier.
"Oh, hello..." you greeted.
"What are you doing?" he tilted his head as he asked.
"I'm just— drawing! Yes, just drawing this this flower here," you said, opting not to voice out the reason of your grumbling.
"I see..." the man replied.
The silence that followed was long. You thought the man had already left, but to your surprise, he crouched down beside you.
Unable to take it any longer, you spoke. "So, did you get there on time?"
"Hm? Oh, you mean the last time we met. Yes, I did. And it's all thanks to you."
You waved your hand. "There's no need to thank me. Besides, you've already thanked me before."
"But still... if it wasn't for you, I wouldn't have woken up in time for my club activity."
"Ah." You recalled tripping over him the first time you met. "Sorry for tripping over you, by the way."
"It's alright," he replied.
".........."
".........."
Another moment of silence.
"Say," you started. "Do you come here often?"
The man nodded. "I find the forest calming."
You looked down at the wild anemone in front of you. "I see... I hope I'm not causing too much trouble for you."
"Not at all. How about you? Do you visit here often too?"
"When the time allows me to," you responded. "Though I try my best to visit as much as I can."
You turned to look at him.
"Since it's most likely that we'll run into each other a lot here, it's probably best to know each other's names, right?"
Reaching out a hand, you smiled. "I'm Y/N, and you are...?"
"Silver. My name is Silver."
"It's very nice to meet you, Silver."
From that day on, spending your time in the forest with Silver became a common occurrence.
True to his appearance, he was nothing short of a gentleman to you, always making sure you were doing fine during your visits.
You learned that he was a second-year student from Diasomnia and that he was part of the Equestrian Club with Riddle, and along with a first-year named Sebek, he is training to become a retainer for Malleus Draconia, the heir apparent of Briar Valley.
You felt at ease with him, grateful that you found a person aside from your first-year friends to open up to.
And he would always lend an ear to listen to your stories.
You found his presence comforting, just like the forest that has now become a special place for the two of you.
It didn't take long before the feelings of friendship you felt for him had developed into something more.
"Alright, I'm gonna do it."
You announced, clenching your hands with determination.
"Huh? What are you talking about?" Ace asked.
"I'm gonna tell him I like him."
"Finally!" the gingerhead cheered. "I was getting sick of hearing you pine for him every day, to be honest— ack! Dude, you've gotta stop hitting me at the back of my head!"
"I'll stop once you stop being so rude," Deuce replied. "I'll be rooting for you, Prefect!"
You smiled. "Thanks, Deuce. I'll be off then!"
Giving them a small wave, you rushed to the second-years' classrooms, your heart pounding with hope and excitement.
However, that feeling will soon be crushed as soon as you reached your destination.
"This is it, right?"
You panted as you read the sign above the doorframe: "2-A"
You were about to knock when you heard people talking inside, making you pause.
"...Are you two dating?"
"...No, we're not."
You blinked, hearing Silver among the voices you heard.
"The Prefect and I are only good friends, nothing more."
Oh.
Your gaze fell on the floor.
Of course, what were you thinking? It's not like he was doing all those things when you were together because he sees you as more than a friend. It was you who gave those gestures a different meaning.
Laughing bitterly to yourself, you made the walk back to Ramshackle.
"So, how did it go?"
Along with Deuce and Grim, Ace greeted you with his signature grin the moment you walked in Ramshackle's common room.
You could only give them a bittersweet smile in return.
"What, don't tell me you got— mmph!"
Covering Grim's mouth with his free hand, Ace threw a bag of chips in your direction. "You know what? Screw that guy. He doesn't even know what he's missing out on."
"Y-yeah, Ace is right," Deuce chimed in. "Don't worry, Prefect. We're here for you."
After a moment, you sighed, feeling an immense gratefulness for your two friends.
"Thanks, you guys."
"Y-yeah, sure..."
"Pwah! Alright, that's enough! Are we gonna eat these snacks or what?" Grim exclaimed, having wriggled out of Ace's grip.
"Oi, Grim! Don't you dare eat all of the snacks this time, you hear me?" Ace turned to look at your furry roommate, who was already stuffing his mouth full.
Letting out a small laugh, you sat beside Deuce who only shook his head as the other two in the room continued bickering.
You really are lucky to have them as friends.
"Oh..."
You softly gasped as you bumped into the person you have been avoiding all week: Silver.
"Ah... hello, Prefect. You must be here for Professor Crewel's class."
"Y-yes, I am..." you replied awkwardly. "And you? What are you doing here in the lab?"
"Oh, you haven't heard yet? The first-years and second-years will be having a joint class today."
"Really...?" You felt your stomach drop. "I see..."
In that moment, Professor Crewel entered the room. "Alright, puppies, take your seats."
"As I have explained yesterday, we will be making Morpheus's Elixir for today's class. However, as this is a fairly complicated potion, I have assigned to your group a second-year who will guide you in making the potion. Failure to make the potion will cause you to take a remedial class, understood?"
"Yes, sir!"
"Then I will assign your guides now. Group 1..."
"For Y/N's group, Silver here will be your guide."
"What?!" you exclaimed.
Professor Crewel narrowed his eyes at your sudden outburst. "Do you have any problem with the assignment, Miss Y/N?"
"Ah— no, sir. I apologize."
After Crewel left your table, you sighed. Just your rotten luck, you thought.
"Are you alright, Prefect?" Silver asked.
"Huh? Oh, yes, I'm fine! Never been better!"
"Are you sure—?"
"Yep! We should probably start making the potion now. Let's see..." you cut him off, changing the topic to your current activity.
"We need one teaspoon of stardust powder, three dried lavender spikes, five drops of midnight blue extract, one moondrop piece, and one cup of milk."
Before you could put the ingredients in the cauldron, someone grabbed your hands to stop you.
"Wait! Don't dump them in the cauldron all at once."
"Huh?"
It was Silver. You immediately moved your hands away from his, as if you'd be burned if you don't.
"Ah, sorry. The instruction said to boil them together," you said sheepishly.
"You're right. But the ingredients won't mix together properly if you just put them together."
Pouring the cup of milk in the cauldron, Silver continued to explain.
"You have to heat up the milk in low heat first. Once it starts to steam, put the stardust and ground moondrop piece gradually."
He then gave the moondrop to your group mate. "Ground this and the lavender, if you please."
"Wow... you're really good at this," you marveled, watching the purplish blue potion sparkle as you gently stirred it.
Silver smiled. "Not really... I just happened to be familiar with this potion since I used to make them whenever my father gets his bouts of nightmares."
"I see..."
After a moment, Silver spoke once again.
"I haven't seen you visit the forest for a while now..."
"Oh..." you paused. "I was just...busy, y'know... between doing the headmage's biddings, schoolwork, and keeping an eye on Grim, I haven't found the time to visit."
That was a lie, of course.
You just simply haven't had the strength to face him yet after overhearing the conversation he had with his classmate.
You wouldn't admit that to him, though.
"Then... will you be visiting today?"
"I'm... not sure."
"Oh..."
"......."
The space between the two of you were filled with thick silence which lasted until the end of the class.
Silver sighed as he put the cauldron away in the cabinet.
For some reason, you've been avoiding him for several days now.
Did he do something to offend you?
Mulling over the possible reasons of your avoidance, he left the lab and found you talking to one of your classmates.
He was about to say goodbye when he heard the boy shout.
"Prefect! I-I... I like you! Please go out with me!"
Silver remained quiet as he saw the scene unfold before him. It made his stomach churn, much to his confusion.
His eyes then shifted to you.
"Oh— um... thank you, but I can't," you replied.
He released a breath he didn't know he was keeping. How odd...
Suddenly, the boy grabbed your arm, making you wince.
"C-can't you give me just one chance? I promise I'll be good to you!"
"Wait, stop—"
"Hey."
Before he could think, Silver found yanking your classmate's hand from your arm, inserting himself between you and him.
"I believe the Prefect had already given her answer."
"Silver..."
"Tch, fine..." the boy said, irritated as he raised his hands in defeat and walked away.
After making sure he was out of sight, Silver turned to you. "Are you alright?"
"Y-yeah... I was just a little surprised, is all," you replied, rubbing the arm your classmate grabbed earlier.
He frowned. Your classmate must've gripped too hard that it even left a mark.
"Has this been happening to you regularly?"
"No, this is the first time this happened, actually."
He paused, eyeing your arm before speaking again. "Do you have somewhere else to be today?"
"No, I don't. Why?
"Then let me escort you back to Ramshackle Dorm."
"Huh?! You don't need to do that!"
However, he only shook his head. "I can't let you walk alone after that. Please, I insist."
After a few more convincing, Silver finally persuaded you into letting him walk you back home.
He sighed in relief as the two of you managed to reach Ramshackle without incident.
"Thank you for walking me back," you said as you opened the front door.
"Of course."
Suddenly, the familiar gingerhead appeared.
"Hey, Prefect!" Ace greeted. "...And Silver?!"
"Wait, Silver's here?"
Another familiar face appeared. This time, it was Deuce.
"Hey guys."
"Hello."
The two Heartslabyul students exchanged looks before looking at the prefect, who sighed.
"He insisted on walking me back."
"Okay..." Ace narrowed his eyes in suspicion.
"Trappola, Spade." Silver turned to the two card soldiers. "Can I speak with you two? Please."
The gingerhead raised a brow before looking at the prefect.
"Do what you want. I'll be going inside and sleep." You waved your hand and went inside.
"Sure..."
"Say what?!"
The two blurted after Silver told them what happened earlier.
"I can't believe he did that..." Ace sighed.
"Yeah, that guy's gonna pay for that... No man should force a woman to do what he wants," Deuce cracked his knuckles as he spoke.
"Please, calm down, there's no need to retaliate. I will speak to the teachers regarding this. I only ask you to keep the Prefect company, in case something like this happens again."
"Say..." Ace suddenly turned to Silver, his eyes serious. "Why are you doing this?"
Silver's brow furrowed in confusion. "What do you mean?"
"I'm asking why are you doing all this effort for the Prefect? Don't get me wrong, we're still gonna do what you asked us to, I just don't get why you asked us for help too? Most people in this school would just tell the teachers what happened and go their merry way at best, but you even walked her home to make sure she arrived safely. What does the Prefect truly mean to you?"
He was taken aback at the first-year's question. "The Prefect is a precious friend of mine and—"
Ace scoffed, cutting him off mid-sentence. "Yeah, right."
"Ace! Don't be rude!" Deuce scolded. "I'm so sorry for my dorm mate's actions. He's only worried for our friend. Don't worry, we'll make sure the Prefect is safe."
Silver stared at Ace, who was scowling, for a moment before turning to Deuce.
"Thank you. And Ace?"
"What?"
"I know you're worried for the Prefect, but I promise you, I would never do anything to hurt her."
He then slightly bowed and left.
"Oh, Silver. Welcome back."
"Hello. What are you guys doing?"
Silver eyed his two dorm mates curiously.
"Oh, I'm just helping this guy write a love letter for his crush, the Ramshackle prefect," the first student replied.
"Hey! Don't tell him that!" the second student shrieked.
"...You like the Prefect?" Silver asked.
"Oh, he's absolutely smitten. Wouldn't stop talking about how cute and nice she is. I got sick of it so I told him to write a letter instead."
"I told you, stop! I don't need everybody to know my business!"
"Hey, speaking of which, you're a friend of the Prefect, right?" Student No. 1 smiled. "Mind helping this guy to ask his crush out?"
Ask the Prefect out...?
Silver felt his his chest twinge with unease.
As much as he'd like to help his dorm mates out, the Prefect is his friend. And she just experienced something terrible with love confessions earlier. If he helped them out, that might make her uncomfortable, and—
"O-on second thought..."
Student No. 1's voice broke him out of his stupor.
The man, who was looking paler by the minute, continued. "You must be busy with other things. Please, forget we asked!"
Grabbing his friend's arm, he rushed out of the room, leaving the unfinished love letter on the table.
Silver could only stare at the doorway in confusion.
"My, no wonder those two look like they saw a ghost. Why the frown?"
He turned to look at the new arrival.
"Father..."
Lilia smiled, before noticing the unattended letter on the table.
"What's this? A love letter?"
Silver nodded. "Those two left it behind."
"Young love... How nice." The older fae giggled. "Who's the recipient?"
"...The Ramshackle prefect."
"Oh... You mean your friend whom you met in the woods?"
"Yes."
Silver frowned at the letter in his adoptive father's hand.
"Are you upset that she's receiving a lot of attention from her admirers?"
Lilia waved the paper in his hand. "You've been staring at this like it's your greatest enemy."
"Oh..."
He let out a sigh. "I'm just worried about her."
Lilia raised a brow, urging him to continue.
"One of her admirers physically harassed her earlier. Who knows what might've happened if I wasn't there to intervene."
"Oh my..." Lilia scowled. "How distasteful. Is she alright?"
"Yes. I escorted her home to make sure she's safe."
The bat fae nodded. "That's good."
"And then there's that..."
Silver paused, unsure of what to say next.
"What do you mean?" Lilia asked.
"For some reason, I feel... restless." Silver ran a hand through his hair. "Like I want to hide her away from the others. Especially when I heard that student talk about her like that."
"Hoh..." Lilia hummed, his eyes filled with intrigue. "...Are you sure what you feel for her is only friendship?"
"What?" Silver furrowed his brows. "What is it then if not friendship?"
Lilia only shrugged at his question. "That's for you to find out! It would be less fun if I told you right away."
Grabbing his shoulder, Lilia ushered him to his room. "Now then, it's time for you to think long and hard for the answer, okay?"
"The answer, huh..."
Silver closed his eyes and opened them again, his line of sight never leaving your table in the cafeteria.
A few days had passed since the incident with your classmate happened. The teachers swiftly made an action with his report, sending the culprit into a two-week suspension and transferring him to a different section, making sure that the two of you never crossed paths during classes.
Your two friends from Heartslabyul also kept their promise, making sure you were never alone.
It's also been days since Lilia told him to go find the answer to his own question. Unfortunately, he still hasn't found the right answer to that.
He brought his attention back to your table.
You were laughing at something Ace had said.
Seeing you smile like that, unburdened with the troubles your life here had brought you, made him smile too.
He'd do anything to keep that smile of yours on your face.
And with that, realization slowly found its way to him.
Why he became downhearted when you said you were too busy to visit the forest.
Why he was so upset about the attention from your admirers.
Why he wanted to protect that precious smile of yours.
Ace and Lilia's questions came to Silver's mind.
"What does the Prefect truly mean to you?"
"...Are you sure what you feel for her is only friendship?"
The answer to those is...
"That's what you get for being overzealous," you said, still laughing at Ace's story.
The gingerhead only pouted at your reaction. "It's not funny! Don't you know how hard it is to catch those little guys?"
"At least that'll teach you not to use the school's resources to make a quick cash."
"Yeah, yeah. I get it, so stop laughing!"
"...Prefect."
You tensed as you heard that all too familiar voice. Taking a deep breath, you turned to look at him and smiled.
"Hi, Silver. Can I help you with something?"
"Are you free after class today?"
You eyed him curiously. "Yes. Why do you ask?"
"Then, can we meet in the forest today? I need to tell you something important."
You looked at your two friends and Grim, who gave you worried looks. You gave them a reassuring smile in return.
"Sure, I'll be there."
"I wonder what it is he wanted to talk about?" you said to yourself as you treaded the familiar path of the forest.
This is the first time you've visited this place since... that happened.
You shook your head and continued to walk.
Your feelings are still all over the place, although not as much as before. You've been trying your best to move on, but you are missing the time you've spent with Silver in this forest.
Speak of the devil, you thought, as you spotted the familiar figure lying on the forest floor.
"Seriously, it's a wonder how you can sleep in the cold hard ground so soundly," you chuckled, crouching beside him and brushing off the strands of hair blocking his face.
He must've felt your touch, as he stirred awake from his slumber after brushing off his hair.
"Morning, sleepyhead."
"Mm... Y/N..? Did I make you wait?"
You shook your head. "I just got here. I should be asking you that. Sorry I'm late."
Silver sat up from his sleeping spot. "It's alright."
He patted the space beside him, and you complied, sitting beside him on the ground.
The setting sun painted the sky in an array of colors, making you sigh in awe.
"Y/N."
"Yes?" you replied, taking off your gaze from the sky to him.
"I've been thinking a lot to answer a question I asked myself. And after a few days, I've finally found the answer to that question."
You remained quiet, letting him continue speaking.
"I am ashamed to admit that it took me to realize it after that incident, but I cannot bear to see you be with another man."
Silver looked at you with all seriousness.
You blinked. No way. Is he...?
"Y/N, I am deeply in love with you. And I promise to treasure you every day as long as I live, if you'll have me."
You gasped.
You thought there would be no chance, when you heard him that day. But here he is, laying his feelings out in the open.
Tears began to prickle your eyes.
"But Silver... we are friends."
"...Yes, but–"
"But I would very much like to be more than friends."
You laughed, your tears now flowing freely on your cheeks.
Silver stared at you in disbelief before pulling you in for a hug.
"You have no idea how much I've been wanting you to say that," you said between sobs.
Pressing your foreheads together, he began to wipe your tears with his thumb. "I'm sorry, and thank you."
Once again, you let out a shaky laugh before kissing him.
And as your lips met his, you found yourself grateful to whatever divinity watching you above in this world for letting you meet and love the man who was sleeping on the ground that day.

The Making of a Love Story
pairing: Aaron Taylor Johnson x female!reader
word count:2269 | requests are open (send requests, I will gladly answer them all)
Aaron Taylor Johnson Masterlist
The grand ballroom of the Mosfilm Studios shimmered under the warm glow of countless chandeliers. Crews bustled about, making last-minute adjustments to the opulent set, while extras, dressed in their 19th-century finery, chatted excitedly. You, in your exquisitely crafted gown, a replica of Anna Karenina’s iconic attire, stood nervously by the edge of the dance floor, your heart pounding a frantic rhythm against your ribs. Across the room, you could see him. Aaron Taylor-Johnson, transformed into the dashing Count Alexei Vronsky, his tailored uniform accentuating his already impressive physique. He was laughing with a member of the crew, his easy smile radiating charm, and you couldn't help but feel a flutter in your stomach.
This was it. The scene that had been haunting your dreams for weeks – the grand ball, the moment Anna and Vronsky’s eyes lock, igniting a passion that would defy societal norms and ultimately lead to tragedy. You had studied the script, read and reread Tolstoy's masterpiece, trying to capture the essence of Anna, her inner turmoil, her yearning for a love that was forbidden. And now, here you were, about to bring her to life, alongside the very man who was making your own heart race.
"Ready, Y/N?" the director, Joe Wright, asked, his voice cutting through your reverie.
You managed a shaky nod. "Almost," you replied, smoothing down the folds of your dress.
"Remember," Joe said, his eyes twinkling, "this is the moment. The spark. Let the chemistry between you and Aaron do the work."
Chemistry. That was the tricky part. You had met Aaron briefly during the initial read-through, and you had instantly felt a connection, an undeniable spark. But this was different. This was Anna and Vronsky, their passion amplified by the grandeur of the setting, the music, the unspoken desires that simmered beneath the surface.
The music swelled, the waltz beginning its graceful sway. Aaron, as Vronsky, moved with an effortless elegance, his gaze sweeping across the room until it landed on you. His eyes, a striking blue, held a warmth that made your breath catch in your throat. He extended a hand, a slight smile playing on his lips.
"May I have this dance, Madame Karenina?" he asked, his voice low and charming.
You placed your hand in his, the touch sending a shiver up your spine. As he led you onto the dance floor, you felt as if the world around you faded away. It was just you and him, Anna and Vronsky, caught in the intoxicating rhythm of the waltz.
"You look beautiful," Aaron murmured, his voice close to your ear.
"Thank you," you replied, your cheeks flushing. "You look… dashing."
He chuckled. "Just trying to do justice to the Count."
As they danced, the conversation flowed effortlessly, the initial nervousness melting away. They talked about the film, about their characters, about their shared passion for storytelling. But beneath the surface, there was something more, an unspoken connection that crackled with energy.
"This is quite a scene, isn't it?" Aaron said, his eyes meeting yours. "The beginning of the end, in a way."
"Yes," you agreed, a hint of sadness creeping into your voice. "It's heartbreaking, but also… beautiful."
"Like love itself," he added, his gaze lingering on yours.
The music reached a crescendo, and for a moment, they were lost in the dance, in the moment, in the characters they were portraying. They were Anna and Vronsky, their hearts beating in unison, their souls entwined.
The scene ended, the music fading, and the director yelled, "Cut!" The spell was broken, and they were Y/N and Aaron again, but the lingering connection remained, a silent acknowledgment of the magic they had created.
Days turned into weeks, and the filming progressed. You and Aaron spent countless hours together, both on and off set, delving deeper into the complexities of their characters, exploring the nuances of their relationship. You discovered a shared love for old films, a passion for literature, and a quirky sense of humor that had you both in stitches. The line between Anna and Vronsky, between Y/N and Aaron, began to blur.
One evening, after a particularly intense scene, you and Aaron found yourselves alone in the costume department. The room was filled with the remnants of the day's shoot – gowns, uniforms, and various props scattered haphazardly. Aaron was leaning against a rack of costumes, looking thoughtful.
"Tough scene today," you said, breaking the silence.
He nodded. "Yeah. It's hard to imagine the pain Anna was going through."
"And Vronsky," you added. "He was torn between his passion for Anna and his societal obligations."
"It's a timeless story, isn't it?" Aaron said. "The struggle between love and duty."
You walked over to a mirror, admiring a particularly beautiful gown. "It makes you think about your own life, your own choices," you mused.
Aaron joined you, his reflection appearing beside yours in the mirror. "It does," he said softly.
He reached out and gently touched your hand, his touch sending a jolt of electricity through you. You turned to face him, your heart pounding in your chest.
"Y/N," he began, his voice low and sincere, "I…"
Before he could finish his sentence, the door to the costume department swung open, and a member of the crew walked in, interrupting the moment. The spell was broken once again.
The filming of the ball scene lingered in your minds. One evening, after the day's shoot, you and Aaron found yourselves drawn back to the set, the grand ballroom now empty and silent. The costumes for Anna and Vronsky lay neatly on hangers, as if waiting for their owners to return.
"Do you remember that dance?" Aaron asked, his voice echoing in the stillness.
You nodded, a smile playing on your lips. "How could I forget?"
"I was thinking," he said, a mischievous glint in his eyes, "we could have one more dance. Just us."
You laughed, but the idea was strangely appealing. "Here? Now?"
"Why not?" he said, grabbing his Vronsky coat. "It's not every day you get to dance in a ballroom like this."
You couldn't resist. You slipped into your Anna gown, the familiar fabric feeling like a second skin. Aaron helped you with the fastenings, his fingers brushing against your skin, sending shivers down your spine.
The music wasn't playing, but you could both hear it in your heads, the lilting melody of the waltz. Aaron took your hand, and you stepped onto the dance floor, the polished wood gleaming under the moonlight streaming through the windows.
He twirled you around, his movements as graceful and elegant as Vronsky himself. You felt as if you were floating, lost in the magic of the moment. He pulled you close, and you could feel his breath on your cheek.
"Y/N," he whispered, his voice filled with emotion, "I…"
This time, there was no interruption. He leaned in, his lips brushing against yours in a soft, tender kiss. It was a kiss that spoke volumes, a culmination of the weeks they had spent together, the unspoken feelings that had been simmering beneath the surface.
The kiss broke, and they stood there, gazing into each other's eyes, the silence filled with unspoken words.
"I think," Aaron said, a slow smile spreading across his face, "that Count Vronsky has fallen for Anna Karenina."
You laughed, your heart overflowing with happiness. "And I think," you replied, "that Y/N has fallen for Aaron Taylor-Johnson."
The rest of the filming passed in a blur of emotions, the intensity of Anna and Vronsky's story mirroring the growing feelings between you and Aaron. The final scene, the tragic climax of the story, was particularly difficult to film, the raw emotion leaving you both drained.
When the filming finally wrapped, there was a bittersweet feeling in the air. You were both sad to say goodbye to Anna and Vronsky, but also excited to see the finished product, to share their story with the world.
And as for you and Aaron, your story was just beginning. The spark that had ignited on the set of Anna Karenina had blossomed into a full-fledged romance, a love story that was as passionate and timeless as the one they had portrayed on screen. The grand ballroom of Mosfilm Studios had witnessed not only the birth of Anna and Vronsky's tragic love but also the beginning of your own, a love story that was destined for a much happier ending.
The wrap party was a whirlwind of celebration. The cast and crew, exhausted but exhilarated, gathered at a trendy Moscow restaurant, the air buzzing with excitement. You and Aaron stayed close, a comfortable silence settling between you. The stolen moments, the whispered conversations, the lingering touches – all spoke volumes about the connection you shared. He kept a protective arm around you, a silent claim amidst the throng of well-wishers.
"To Anna Karenina!" Joe Wright announced, raising his glass. The room erupted in cheers, glasses clinking.
Later, as the party began to wind down, you found yourselves in a quieter corner. Aaron leaned back against the wall, a thoughtful expression on his face.
"It's strange, isn't it?" he said, his voice low. "We've lived with these characters for months, and now… they're gone."
"It's like saying goodbye to a part of yourself," you agreed.
He reached for your hand, his fingers intertwining with yours. "But we have our own story to continue," he murmured, his eyes meeting yours.
The next few weeks were a whirlwind of press junkets and promotional events. You and Aaron were inseparable, fielding questions about the film, about your characters, and, inevitably, about your relationship. You confirmed what everyone already suspected, your smiles and easy camaraderie speaking louder than any official statement. The media ate it up – the real-life romance mirroring the on-screen passion.
One crisp autumn evening, you and Aaron escaped the city, seeking refuge in a small countryside cottage. The leaves were ablaze with color, painting the landscape in hues of red, gold, and orange. The tranquility was a welcome respite from the constant buzz of city life.
"This is perfect," you sighed, snuggling closer to Aaron as you sat by the crackling fireplace.
"Just what we needed," he agreed, kissing the top of your head.
He pulled out a small, worn book from his bag. "I brought something to read," he said. "Something that isn't Tolstoy."
It was a collection of poetry by Emily Dickinson. He began to read aloud, his voice soft and soothing, filling the cozy cottage with its gentle rhythm. The words, filled with longing and passion, resonated with you, echoing the emotions that had been swirling within you for months.
As he read, you watched him, mesmerized by the intensity in his eyes, the way his face lit up when he spoke of things he loved. You realized that you were falling for him, not just as the charming actor who played Vronsky, but as the man he was – intelligent, sensitive, and utterly captivating.
The premiere of Anna Karenina was a grand affair. The red carpet was a sea of flashing cameras, and the atmosphere was electric with anticipation. You and Aaron walked hand in hand, your smiles radiant. You wore a stunning gown, a modern interpretation of Anna's classic style, while Aaron looked dashing in a tailored suit.
Inside the theater, as the film began to play, you felt a surge of pride. You had poured your heart and soul into this project, and now, you were sharing it with the world. Watching the film with Aaron beside you, seeing your love story unfold on the big screen, was an experience you would never forget.
The audience was captivated, drawn into the tragic world of Anna and Vronsky. The chemistry between you and Aaron was palpable, igniting the screen with its raw emotion. When the film ended, the theater erupted in applause, a standing ovation that seemed to last forever.
After the premiere, you and Aaron slipped away from the after-party, seeking a quiet moment to yourselves. You found a secluded rooftop bar, overlooking the glittering city lights.
"What did you think?" you asked, turning to Aaron.
He took your hand, his gaze intense. "I thought it was perfect," he said, his voice husky. "And I thought that you were absolutely breathtaking."
He paused, taking a deep breath. "Y/N," he began, his voice filled with emotion, "I know this is probably moving fast, but I can't help it. I've fallen for you. Completely and utterly."
Your heart fluttered. "Aaron," you whispered, "I…"
"I know," he said, a gentle smile gracing his lips. "You don't have to say anything. Just… let me show you."
He leaned in, his lips brushing against yours in a tender kiss. It was a kiss that sealed your fate, a promise of a future together.
The success of Anna Karenina catapulted you and Aaron into the spotlight. You became one of Hollywood's most talked-about couples, gracing magazine covers and attending glamorous events. But amidst the glitz and glamour, you remained grounded, your love for each other the anchor that kept you steady.
Years passed, and your love story continued to unfold. You and Aaron starred in several more films together, each project deepening your connection, solidifying your bond. You built a life together, filled with love, laughter, and shared dreams. The grand ballroom of Mosfilm Studios had witnessed the beginning of your love story, a story that was as passionate and timeless as the one you had portrayed on screen, but one that, unlike Anna and Vronsky's, was destined for a happy ending.

You notice you are half-awake.
Not quite there yet, your mind not fully emerged in reality but you are awake enough to notice your head hurts.
Massively.
There is pressure at the back of your skull, as if you have been sleeping on a rock.
It is incredibly painful.
So intense, your stomach churns.
It has been some time since you fell asleep randomly after a party but you cannot really care as you swallow hard with a too dry mouth and try to contain the contents of your stomach.
You can feel your heartbeat pulsating in your temple.
Everything hurts, you realize.
Not just your pounding head.
What the fuck was in that drink Silas gave you?
After all you know you should have not taken that last shot he handed to you. But it has been his birthday, who are you to judge the birthday boy wishes?
In hindsight, not the best decision.
And yet, this does not feel like a hangover.
Something is wrong.
Slowly, you become vaguely aware of your surroundings.
The air smells of dead fish, bacon and….wood? Wet wood? Like the wood your father used to fuel the stove in his hut where you spent so many weekends in the child.
Yes. Not yet fully dried, freshly cut wood, consumed by flames.
The stench of fish is more intense, though. You are certain, fish is not supposed to smell like this.
There is water rushing by, in large quantities.
A river? Not rhythmic enough be the ocean. No waves, just a steady rush.
Your face is warm but it does not feel like a fever. As if you are lying in the sun, external heat burning your skin.
There are hushed voices.
"She’s alive! Still breathing—thank the gods!" whispers one voice.
"But what, pray tell, are those trousers?" another interjects. "And that tunic—dare I ask if this is some bold new fashion sweeping the high city?"
"I assure you, it most certainly is not," a third voice cuts in. "I've never laid eyes on such fabric before—nor, I suspect, has anyone with a shred of taste."
Huh. Interesting. There should not be anyone in your bedroom.
Let alone three men.
“Let me through and take a look,” a woman orders.
You notice, the surface beneath you feels wrong.
Too hard. This is not your bed.
It is….sand?
The realization is enough to jolt you upright.
The sudden movement sends a fresh wave of pain crashing through your skull. It feels as if your brain is too large for your head, pressing outward, straining against bone.
You wince, flinching as the sunlight stabs into your eyes.
If possible, your head hurts even worse from this sudden movement.
Multiple people immediately step back and stare at you.
You are instantly certain this is not your bedroom.
This is not even your house.
This is not even your city.
You force yourself to take a slow, steady breath and look at them properly.
As if all of this was not strange enough, you are somehow certain you have left….home.
You know, with a quiet, head-hurting certainty, this is not your home.
But you do not know how you are certain.
You look at the people standing around you.
A black man with two different eyes, one is glowing red but the rest of it is black. He has black dreadlocks, bound behind his head. There are scars on his face and down his neck, but he somehow the gaze on his face is kind, intrigued.
Another man, with a surprisingly cute face with a stubble. An earring with a star dangles from his left ear. His dark brown hair is bound back at the top, dark brown eyes watch you curiously as he crouches to one knee in front of you.
And then there is the third person, you have never seen a person like this. You might be hallucinating, you think.
Isn’t that a side effect of migraines? This headache really feels like a migraine.
Her skin is light green with dark spots on her cheeks and around her eyes but her ears are pointed, ridged with delicate waves. Her nose is pointy yet somehow flat. She watches you with clear disdain, her lips pressed into a thin line. There is a fucking sword, resting in her arm, too.
She reminds you of a frog, though you try to suppress this idea. You do not know where you are, how you got here or who the fuck these people are, but you are quite sure, calling someone a frog might not be the best idea.
The other woman has one of the most beautiful faces you have ever seen. There is a small scar beneath her right eye, but it’s nearly hidden below freckles. Her hair is pitch black and she wears an interesting pointy silver piece on top of her long braid at the back of her head. Her ears are also pointed, but not as much. Her eyes are curious but restrained. Light green. Laura would fall for her instantly.
The last one might be a model. Pearl skin, beautiful sharp jaw line, the most perfect tone of silver white curls you have ever seen. But his eyes are deep red. It suits him somehow. You do not know what to do with this information. His ears are pointed too. You realize, he is an elf.
Of course, in all of this – whatever the fuck this is - there is a beautiful elf staring at you.
They all stand around you, watching you.
As if all of this would not be weird enough, you notice their clothes.
The dark eyed man is dressed in a robe? Clasped at the front with a white shirt underneath it. There are leather embellishments on the shoulders and surprisingly elegant brown boots.
Both women are wearing….armour.
You have no other way of describing it.
Actual, medieval-style armour.
There are definitely metal elements in it, on the chest, shoulder and legs, attached to leather part. The dark haired woman definitely wears chainmail.
What the actual fuck!
You’ve read your fair share of fantasy novels, watched all the big-budget adaptations, but you are sure this is not CGI. This is not a badly rendered animation or even masterful makeup artistry.
Not your own, your mind couldn't come up with this if you focus hard enough.
For a moment, you consider being in a coma. You read an article once, on people having the most vivid dreams while being in a coma.
Or experiencing a near death scenario.
No. This somehow - although you are not sure how - feels real.
A real fantasy.
But you are quite sure, you made it home last night, unharmed.
You remember drinking water. And electrolytes. In your kitchen.
You remember undressing, before dropping into bed.
No, this, somehow, indescribably, feels real.
You can touch the sand.
You hear the river you can see when you look to your right.
You can feel the sun on your skin.
You can feel their gazes on you.
You can smell the stench of fish, wood and burning flesh. Not bacon. There are corpses burning behind them.
Of course, there are fucking dead people. Burning dead people.
When you look up, there is a…..giant tentacle?
What the ever loving fuck!
There is a burning, gigantic squid to your left, one of its monstrous tentacles held by large, light brown stones around you.
Your mind rebels against the sight.
It is not a ship. Not really. A grotesque fusion of flesh and metal, twisted and burning.
And there is an elf and a walking frog person, apparently, so it’s a start to your personal fantasy adventure?
It kind of feels like a nightmare, though.
How can this be real?
But they do not look like badly rendered CGI or very expensive makeup and you do not even have time to comprehend the entirety of weirdness of this situation, the fact that these are in fact breathing people, as the dark haired, crouching man speaks.
“Hello. I am Gale of Waterdeep,” he says gently. “Are you alright?”

If you wouldn't mind, I'd appreciate a letter from Illario to Lucanis that is basically him wondering how the hell his awkward cousin managed to attract a hottie like Rook De Riva. (Bonus points for it being my Rook, Adava. I've posted a couple screenshot archives of her.) Thank you very much! This is such a wonderful and fun thing you're doing for the community!
Ding Dong. Another special delivery from the Antivan Postal Service.
We all know Illario is a yapper... this may be the reason why this letter is so crazy long. It's a bit more than just the one requested topic, I hope you don't mind, but I felt, that even Illario would not just kick down the door and starts asking awkward questions about his cousin's love-life. I honestly can't figure, how Lucanis would even answer this letter... Anyway, enjoy!
Transcript:
Cousin, I hope you don’t mind me, bothering you. I know the new First Talon is still saving the world and has probably not the time and even less patience to read from a despicable criminal anyway. Even (or rather because) said criminal is your blood and the closest thing to family you’ll ever have. Beside of course our dear Caterina, who naturally sends her regards (because this way she’s excused to write a letter to you herself. Which of course she would never confirm, and I would NEVER even think. Huh, who wrote that?)
I spend my time doing paperwork for the Diamond recently, since Viago could not be bothered to supervise me all day and night (which I don’t take offensive, I would not want to be my watchdog, either.) Of course no one gives me a contract anymore, maybe there are some with my name on it, but I fear, you’ll find that name in an unfamiliar spot there. No wonder, Viago is paranoid, that something might get out of hand. Which would make him fail his first ever contract from the new First Talon by losing his ward (that would be me).
Not that I wish for this to happen, but then, what is life without the roofs of Treviso in the moonlight, its markets and cafés. The canals and gondolas and the beautiful people in the streets. While I am stuck in the belly of the Diamond. Copying inventory lists.
Anyway, how’s your days? And I mean the parts we don’t get to read in the gazettes or war reports. Allow me to live a little through your new life. I want to know about hat Lighthouse you’re residing in. Living in the Fade is such a weird concept on its own – but being there stuck with a bunch of non-Antivans who are each so different and unique, but you’re still all on the same contract - that sounds like an interesting experience. And they are all so stunningly beautiful and exciting personalities.
Speaking of exciting: Send my kindest regards to that divine but harsh Tevinter detective if you don’t mind, my brother. I’d be very intrigued to get to know other Tevinter people. For a wider perspective, maybe if you want to call it that?
And no, I’m not trying to make a joke here. Or try to push a shady agenda. I just feel that my choices of people from the Imperium was not the… most educated one.
You know what? Never mind, you shouldn’t have to bother with such silly requests and why I feel to ask them from you.
Better we hold onto our words about the things past until we can exchange them in person.
But, you are aware that I simply could have made up a story to make you introduce me to her, right? Or, even better, I just could have written to your Tevinter friend right away, instead of asking you to give my regards…
Speaking of friends. Must be all new and awkward for you, cousin. I can’t remember you having any close acquaintances ever, at all, when we grew up. I would never have thought, you’d have that in you.
Of course now, this all new YOU will not have any more use for your poor cousin - who’s fallen from grace, to do all the nasty ice breaking and socializing for you. And we were such a successful double like that.
Remember that wigmaker job? Vyranthium, I guess. It got you your, moniker, right? Demon of Vyranthium. Just like a creepy foreshadowing, don’t you think? Anyway, what was I talking about? Ah!
You did all the bloody work back then, I happily give you that, but without me? Way more complicated it would have been, I dare say. And even more dangerous as it was already.
Cousin, just think about it. We could rule Antiva together. Or just retire and be the rulers of our own court, whereever that may be - and do what ever we please.
Or did you eventually make peace with being the one in charge? First Talon! So much responsibility. And so large boots to fill.
May Caterina continue to live and rule on for many many more years to come. So you don’t have to step up entirely. Letting her continue to draw strings in the shadows, while you being the representative and handsome young face of the Antivan Crows. That was a clever move from the old girl. Or was it yours? Either way. She could have all that with less drama and an even prettier face, far more willing, to put up with her and her attics. But, well, here we are.
Sorry, I fell back into ramblings about things again, that should be topic for us talking in person. Forgive me. How did I get there in the first place… I have no idea. Maybe this gives you a hint, of just HOW boring the paperwork is, I get to do here. I start yapping. In a letter.
Before I end this pointless lament, cousin, brother! I want to congratulate you. Honestly. Of course, only if it's true, what’s going round within the Diamond and probably the salons of Treviso’s nobility, too. That the new First Talon, known to be the chastest of all Crows, finally decided to seriously court someone. And not only that. It’s even reciprocated this time, as we hear.
A strategic bond with the House of the 5th Talon? I hear that not few people are taking it this way.
But I know you better, cousin. You’d never engage into such an endeavor, when it’s not playing out like in your silly romance novels. (Yes, of course I know what you always hid between your textbooks and under the mattress. Kitsch!) But well, to each their own, I guess. You the books and me the real experience. But you seem to finally getting there, as it seems. Tell me everything, brother! I’ve witnessed you yapping about coffee and kisses goodbye and smarmy stuff like that. You were really into that de Riva girl, right from the start. There goes my last hope, that Adava had, or would ever discover, a soft spot for me behind her wall of professionalism and all business. Just joking, of course, I’m happy for you both. I mean it.
Just don’t let your heart and your… midsection get into the way of a contract. Which in your case would very much unfortunate for all of Thedas. But who am I to give you advice of matters of the heart… (or the midsection) My latest choices weren’t the smartest, either.
Before I end up filling a journal here, I’ll end now. If you want, write me back, I really want to hear about your life and could use any distraction. We’re family, after all. - Illario

Popping in to give you my favourite scene/moment from HMTB since this fic genuinely had me hyperfixated (I read all the chapters in one night it was wild LOL)
But honestly its how unhinged Scar is, especially in chapter 37 (Im planning to make fanart soon myself aha) But god I was TENSE the entire time. (Bonus points to literally any time Scar just starts slipping and thinking hes in third life)
Also if your doing the sketches honestly if you could draw any of those scenes itd be so cool to see! Have a wonderful day and excited to see the next chapter!
HELLO. i'm bouncing around so happy that someone came to tell me stuff. also, reading hmtb in one night is insane. i don't know whether to be worried or impressed.
scar losing grip is such a wild thing to deal with. the little detail of him lying confused in his bedroom, clawing at the floorboards to try to ground himself in the knowledge that they're wood, not sand (and it not working) still lives vividly in my head.
it's great to know people enjoy that aspect of the story! it's tricky but fun.
as for the sketch, i went to check chapter 37 and then went to draw. and. i said. i said i'd make a doodle but. my hand slipped. soooo, i'm making a proper drawing, which means it might take a bit longer, but i'll tag you when it's done!! here's a preview :3
#ange answers#ange draws#hmtb#it was meant to be a quick sketch#but my hand slipped#hmtb my beloved#thank you for sending the ask/answer/request!!!#(what do i even call it jkncbv)#scarian

Love you all. You are appreciated and your are worthy. Treat yourself with care. 💖
You excuse yourself for a hot bath. You didn't have the luxury in your apartment. You may as well enjoy what you can as the seconds tick down until your eternal purgatory.
You breathe in the steam and let it soothe you. As much as it can. You don't think you've truly relaxed since the smoke filled your apartment. Oh, yeah, that's right, this man pulled out army tactics just to get you here. Just when you convince yourself he's not that loony, you remember another twisted facet of this whole ordeal.
No matter how many times you retrace your steps, how many memories you unravel and search, you can't figure out where he came from, or how you managed to catch his attention. You are unremarkable but he talks like you're some sort of goddess. Not too mention, he seems to believe he knows you somehow. That you are soulmates in some ridiculously serendipitous way. There's nothing meant to be about this. You never meant to be with anyone.
The water turns lukewarm and you stir. You might as well get out. You're not going to get much out of it aside from the pruned skin. You dry off and wrap yourself in one of the fluffy robes hung in wait. You stop to stare at yourself in the mirror.
What else can you do to change his mind? You ate like an animal, you vomited like an overfed cat, and you've done everything to make yourself unapproachable to the general public, not just him. It's like this is a game to him but you're not having fun.
You come out into the hotel room. The smell of lavender and aloe gives you pause. The lights are dimmed. Oh jeez. You cross your arms as the soft Hawaiian sunset glows through the large glass doors. Flickering candlelight pulses all around you and rose petals decorate the floor and bed.
"Please, I just want to sleep--"
"Jellybean, good boy Lloyd is gonna help you do just that," he purrs as he appears. "I'm gonna give you a nice massage. I know you don't like strangers touching you and all that so I'm going to do it all on my own--"
"What? No. No. I'm going to sleep..." you trail off as you see what he's wearing. Next to nothing. Just a tight red thong that barely contains his very obvious excitement.
"Take off your robe, bean, and let the magic hands do their work," he reaches for you and you dodge him.
"Lloyd, it's... we're not even married. Shouldn't you wait until tomorrow night-"
"Tomorrow? The wedding night? Beanie boo, I don't think you realise everything I'm saving for that. The way I'm gonna pamper you," he spreads his hands flat in the air and nuzzles the air lewdly then flicks his tongue slowly up and down.
"God," you whisper and clutch tight the front of your robe. "I said... you said we'd wait--"
"It's all above board. I can have a feel of the goods but I'm not gonna untie the ribbon. Promise," he puts his hand to his chest. "Hey, if it makes you feel better, I can take these off-"
He hooks his thumbs in the sides of the thong and you shake your head furiously, "no, no, don't-- don't do that."
"I'm not shy, baby." He winks.
"Lloyd, please. I'm tired. I... I've never flown before--"
"Will you keep saying my name, bean? You make it sound so nice."
You blink and hold back your revolt. You keep telling yourself you just need to get through this one thing but why? You're not getting out of this. He's taken you out of your apartment, out of the city, out of state. You're pretty sure there's nowhere left to run and he's shown you what happens if you try to hide.
"Come on, I'll be gentle. I just want you to feel good. Get nice and loose for the wedding," he steps closer and grabs the belt of your robe. "My little jelly bean--" He pauses and blinks down at you. "Am I talking to much again? Let my hands do the talking, huh?"
He winks and licks his lips. You want to melt and not in a good way. He tugs loose your belt and you barely keep the robe from falling open completely. He purrs and grabs your hands. You wrestle with him, defeated as he wrenches apart the fabric.
"Damn, bean, I mean... it just gets sweeter every time I see it," he wiggles excitedly.
You put your hands on his but he’s much too strong to deter. His eyes flick up from your body and he grins. He licks his lips.
“I already know you’re just as delicious as you look,” he snarls. “Come on, bean.” He walks you backwards until you’re by the bed. “You get yourself nice and naked and spread eagle.”
He pushes you, just hard enough that you fall onto the mattress. Your chest jiggles as you land and he purrs again. You plant the heels of your hands on the bed and drag yourself up. He goes to the night stand and grabs the shiny bottle of massage oil.
You don’t have much of a choice but the easiest one is to go along with this. He says it’s just a massage. You know better than to trust the man who stalked you, who terrified you, then stole you away, but you don’t have much defense against him. Nothing but your submission.
You slip free of the robe then turn onto your stomach. He tugs away the cotton and lets it heap on the floor. He climbs up on the bed, jostling you as he crosses the mattress on his knees. He oils up his palms and you quickly turn you face down into the pillows.
He straddles your ass and you tense. He grabs your shoulders and rolls the muscles between his thumb and fingers. He tuts, “baby, you need to chill out. Let your good boy help you out.”
He pushes his thumbs into your flesh and angles his hands to drag his knuckles down your back. The ridges of his hands drag along either side of your spine and he traces with his thumbs pressed firmly into the muscle. You can’t resist the moan that rises between your lips and catches in the pillow case.
He pushes back up and once more kneads your shoulders. You quiver and squeeze your eyes shut. It’s overwhelming to be touched. At all. More unnerving that you don’t hate it.
You avoid people, just as much, you avoid any contact. You like your space, your quiet, and this man has violated both. He runs his touch down your sides and the warmth of him seeps into you. He takes your left arm and begins tedious and tender work of the entire length. Your fingers curl and your hand twitches.
You groan and he wiggles against you. His crotch is pressed into you without shame. You hardly notice as you fight the rising tide of delight flowing through you. No, why does it feel good?
He gets to your other arm as the tension slowly uncoils. You never realised how much there was and he’s finding every nook and cranny. He works his way over your back once more. You quiver and moan long and loud.
“That’s it, jelly bean,” he growls and once more grinds against your ass. “Like putty in my hands.
He moves down your legs and pushes a knee between them. He parts your thighs and knees on the bed. He brushes his thumbs along the curve of your ass and hums. He bends and you clench your cheeks. He clucks, “now, now, be a good girl. I said I’d behave, bean.”
He rubs your ass in his large hands. He leans in and kisses each cheek. You squirm but he doesn’t let up. He flutters his fingers along the insides of your thighs. You shiver and he puts more pressure into it. He teases and tends to you.
You bring your arm up to grip the billow and arch your back. He flicks his finger along your cunt and you pop your head up. He snickers.
“I said relax. I can’t have my wife tied in knots... I’m supposed to tie her in knots,” he taunts.
He brings himself to straddle you again. He shifts over you and pushes your thighs closed with his. He grips your hips and massages them tightly. He pulls a hand back as he moves behind you.
He rests his dick between your cheeks as he pins you down by your waist. You spasm but can’t push yourself up. He has you trapped as he slowly thrusts up and down, gliding along your flesh.
“Lloyd, you said--”
“Don’t worry. I won’t go inside,” he grits as he keeps his careful tempo. “Mmm, baby, how can you expect me to resist this ass. Urgh, it’s so nice.”
He brings his hand down to push your cheeks together as he fucks between them. Mortified, you squeak and hide your face. You reach back with one hand and push on his forearm. There’s no stopping him and this is just a preview of the next night.
Your hand falls away at the thought. You can’t stop him. You won’t. No matter how you fight. You tried that and he won. The moment he got you out of your apartment, it was over.
The bed rocks with him. He builds his speed, little by little. His deep voice fills the hotel room as he kneads your ass. He pumps between them and snarls. He squeezes until your eyes water.
You twist your neck and swat at him, “Lloyd, you’re hurting---”
He lets go of once side of your rear and shoves your head down. He ruts wildly as he crushes your skull into the pillow and bounces you on the mattress. A sudden warmth spills into the small of your back and spurts further up your spine. He hisses and quakes, losing his rhythm as he leans his weight onto you.
You grasp his wrist and whine, “ow, Lloyd--”
He retracts from you and flips to fall beside you. You keep your face down, your eyes stinging with tears. You’re scared. You can’t remember the last time you weren’t, but that’s all the proof you need. Lloyd can say all these sweet things, make all his promises, but you know in the end, you can’t control him. He can barely control himself.
“Jellybean,” he tickles your hip as his cum cools on your skin. “You’re so amazing--”
You shimmy away from him without looking back. You can’t lay there any longer. You nearly fall off the bed. You stagger away from the bed. You need to get away from him and more, you need to get that stuff off of you.
You burst into the bathroom and crank on the sink. You grab a washcloth and wet it. You wipe away the stickiness along your hips but you can’t reach higher.
Lloyd’s shadow appears in the door frame. You ignore him as you rinse the cloth and try again. He comes to you and takes a clean one. “Let me help--”
“No, I’m fine,” you snip.
“Jellybean, I know it’s been a long day--”
“You know? You don’t know,” you sneer and tear away from him.
“Baby--”
“I bathed and you—you--”
“I made a mess,” he giggles.
You face him and shake your head. What is wrong with him? This isn’t funny.
“I couldn’t help myself,” he runs his hand down his naked torso. “It’s just what you do to me. I’m...” he stops and looks down as his dick twitches. “I’m getting hard again just think of it. Au naturel, baby. No enhancers needed.” He growls and drags the washcloth around his shaft. “Little blue pill got nothing on you.”
He wipes himself then wads up the wet cloth and hurls it in the sink. “Alright, then. Longing makes the heart, and the balls, grow fonder, huh?” He offers his hand and smirks, “let’s go to bed.”
You stare at him. Unmoving. He shows his palms.
“Sleeping only. Well, maybe a few snuggles,” he says. “But I promise, I’ll abstain. Just for a little longer.”

If it's ok can you do a bad sanses x child reader oneshot where the reader is part of the Bad sanses but as a healer but when it's morning and one of the boys goes to her room she was a child with no memory of them. So now they have to look after her while figuring out how to fix her. When looking after her she acts kind, chill and well behaved after being scared of them since she doesn't remember them but cross acts protective and horror acts like a teddy bear towards them and you can decide how the others act towards them and to avoid confusion the reader was an orphan back in their dead au and you can include Dr Baggs in it if you want (I'm sorry for the long read I hope your ok woth this and I thought you would like the idea)
My sincerest apologies for the wait! I was in the middle of the Don't Imagine event when you sent this, then I got burnt out not long afterwards, and then I rewrote the plot for this... Phew! I hope you don't mind, but I decided to set this in the same multiverse as Have Some Empathy, Dear because it's been on my mind a lot lately.
Confused and Afraid
Word Count: 6,152
The room was too hot, but when you kicked off the heavy blankets, you were suddenly too cold. Your head hurt really bad and when you sat up, you were hit with a sudden dizzy spell that all but forced you to lay back down. It felt like an eternity before your head stopped spinning. You made sure to sit up more carefully this time round, so as to not agitate your sensitive head further.
It was still dark. You weren't sure what time it was and you couldn't see much beyond your bed. Where was your nightlight? Had Mom forgotten to plug it in when she tucked you into bed? Where was Teddy? You wouldn't have gone to bed without him, so could the stuffed bear have fallen onto the floor?
Your throat felt as dry as a desert. You debated calling out for one of your parents, but you were a big girl now. You could find your way to the kitchen on your own. However, getting out of bed was harder than you remembered and the floor felt like ice to your bare feet. Maybe you should put on a pair of socks before getting that drink.
You went to take a step when all of the sudden, a pervading sense of wrongness flooded through you. You weren't wearing your favourite pair of pajamas, but a massive t-shirt that was more like a dress on your small frame. The bed seemed too large for you and none of the dark shapes against the walls resembled any of your bedroom furniture.
You struggled to piece together anything that could explain why you were in this strange room, but the more you tried to think, the worse your headache seemed to become. Plopping down on the ground, you rubbed at your head in a vain attempt to ease the pain. On a whim, you even tried using your healing magic and, while it helped, a dull ache still lingered despite your best efforts.
Interestingly, the glow from your magic provided enough light to navigate the room. With renewed confidence, you resumed your earlier mission now that you could see where you were going. Unfortunately, the doorknob was juuust out of reach and you had to stand on your tiptoes to turn it. With some difficulty, you managed to get the door open and peeked outside.
The hallway beyond was just as dark as the room had been, but it was larger and your magic wasn't bright enough to illuminate it. For a moment, you hesitated, wondering if you should just forget all this. It would be morning soon and then you could navigate this place without fear. However, before you could come to a decision, you heard a shuffling sound as if something was slowly approaching.
You turned slowly, only to come face to face with a very large shadow. It was so tall that you had to crane your neck to even see its face and when you did so, you let out a gasp.
A single glowing red eye was staring down at you.
You darted back into the bedroom and in your panic, slammed the door shut behind you. Where could you hide?! That...thing had seen you and who knew if the door would keep it out.
There was only one place that could possibly hide you. With no time to think, you dove under the bed as far as you could manage, clutching at your knees in an attempt to make yourself as small as possible.
There was a soft tap on the door and you quickly covered your mouth to muffle your fearful sob. Your heart was pounding so hard that it felt like it would burst and you could hardly seem to get enough air with each shuddering breath you took.
"...button?"
The monster's voice was somewhat subdued thanks to the door, but it sounded a lot deeper than you had thought possible. You didn't know what they wanted, but you certainly weren't about to find out. Maybe they would lose interest and move on?
"...are ya there?"
You remained as still as a mouse, wishing this was all just a nightmare and that you would wake up soon. Your mother had always told you that monsters weren't real, but now you weren't so sure. They didn't look like a person wearing a costume, but you were too scared to find out.
You heard the doorknob jiggle, but then it stopped and you heard someone else outside the bedroom.
"axe? what's wrong?" a concerned but even toned voice asked.
"...i don't know? she's...very small?"
There was a beat of silence.
"hey, you okay in there?" the second voice called out. "can i come in? you don't have to be afraid, we just want to make sure everything is alright."
You bit your lower lip. This person didn't sound scary, but what if they were just pretending so you'd let them in? You clutched your knees tighter, curling up even further into yourself. There was no way you were taking that chance.
To your horror, your lack of response did nothing to dissuade them and your heart skipped a beat as the door opened with a soft click. The darkness was suddenly chased away as one of them turned on the light, although your little hiding spot remained shrouded in shadows. You could hear them moving about the room and you knew it was only a matter of time before you were discovered.
A pair of white boots stepped up to the bed before their owner gingerly knelt down and peeked underneath. You let out a whimper when their white eyelights locked onto you.
"oh. she really is...small." For a moment, the new monster looked uncertain, but his expression soon morphed into one of concern. "hey juniper, it's okay... do you think you can come out?" he asked softly. "we don't want to hurt you, okay?"
You vehemently shook your head.
"c'mon, it's okay-"
Before he could finish his sentence, you felt a hand grab onto your shoulder and unceremoniously drag you out from under the bed. Apparently, the first monster had decided to circle around to the other side while the second served as a distraction, intentionally or not. Despite his size, you hadn't even heard him moving around after they'd both entered the room. You struggled and cried, but he wasn't about to let go, choosing instead to pin you against his own body and hold you there.
"dude! that's the exact opposite of what i was trying to do!" the second monster scolded as he stood up. "you've just made her even more scared."
The hulking monster let out a huff. "...too slow," he rumbled.
With a sigh, the second monster moved around the bed. He studied you for a moment but didn't try to touch you. Neither said anything, but the first monster shifted you into a more comfortable position and began sort of petting your head, as if he was trying to calm you down. When your sobbing began to ease and you weren't trembling as badly, you were able to determine that they were actually skeleton monsters.
The second one was wearing a black tank top and black shorts with white X's instead of stripes along the sides. The tips of his phalanges were slightly rounded and he didn't appear to have sharp teeth either. He had a red scar underneath his right eye socket and a few scratches along his arms, but otherwise didn't seem too scary.
The first skeleton was another story. The lack of shadows helped, but now that you could see him properly, he still had a lot of scary features. His phalanges seemed to be tipped with sharp claws and his slightly too wide smile was filled with sharp teeth. His singular red eyelight was shaped differently than his companion's, almost like a cat's, and the left side of his skull had a massive crack that meant you could see clear inside his head if there was anything to see. At least the plain t-shirt and basketball shorts he was wearing seemed normal enough.
"do...do you remember us?" the monochromatic skeleton asked quietly.
You frowned and shook your head. As far as you were aware, you had never seen these two in your life. They looked pretty distinct, almost like they had stepped out of a tv show, but none that you had watched. If you had met them before, you were pretty sure you would remember something like that.
Both skeletons seemed upset by this, but the second managed to quickly compose himself. "okay then... this is fine," he muttered before turning back to you. "how about we start with introductions? then, we won't seem like strangers anymore."
You half nodded and half shook your head, but he seemed slightly encouraged that you'd even tried to answer in the first place.
The monochromatic skeleton smiled. "my name is cross, and this, " he motioned to your captor, "is axe."
You glanced up nervously at the skeleton in question. With a name like that, the hulk of a monster couldn't sound less scary if he tried. While Cross had a bit of a formal air about him, Axe seemed much more wild and rough around the edges. It didn't help that he was intensely staring at you either.
You swallowed nervously and decided to just look at Cross instead. With some difficulty, you managed to give them your name, but neither seemed at all surprised, as if they really had met you before. It felt kind of weird and you didn't know why.
"would you like something drink? we could make hot chocolate if you want?" Cross suggested.
Axe nodded in agreement. "...good idea. somethin' warm an' sweet should help ya feel better."
You had almost forgotten how thirsty you were, but before you could answer, someone lightly rapped on the bedroom door. Both Cross and Axe visibly tensed up and slowly turned around. Now, there were two other skeletons standing in the doorway; one wearing a pink cat onesie while the other had on a blue hoodie with black basketball shorts.
The skeleton in the onesie must have been the one to knock and as soon as he had the other's attention, he pushed off the wall and grinned. "hey~ don't think you could leave me out of the fun!" he exclaimed with a slight chuckle.
The first things that you noticed about him were the glowing red target above his chest and his lack of eyelights. There were also black lines running down his cheekbones, starting at his eye sockets, but otherwise, he sported no visible scars.
The other skeleton remained silent and while you couldn't really see his facial expression thanks to the shadow from his hood, you could see his glowing eyelights. Both were red, although the left one had a small ring of blue towards the center, and while he appeared disinterested, he was still staring right at you. Notably, he was also wearing white gloves and a red scarf.
"we're not having fun," Cross started to say. "this is actually rather serious-"
"yeah, yeah, don't get your uniform in a twist, crossy~"
Having been rudely interrupted, Cross glared at the new skeleton and clenched his fists. The skeleton in question sort of pranced over, although the hooded one stayed near the door for now, seemingly content to watch.
"how'd you get a kid?" the new skeleton asked, pushing Cross out of the way to get closer to you.
Axe only let out a low growl and lifted you out of reach, which had you scrambling to hold onto him for fear of falling.
"as i was trying to say," Cross huffed. He grabbed onto the annoying skeleton's onesie and walked him back a few feet, much to his chagrin. "juniper seems to have shrunk and we aren't sure why yet."
"...she also doesn't remember anythin'," Axe added helpfully as he shifted you into his shoulder.
"that may not be a bad thing tho-"
The new skeleton was abruptly silenced by harsh glares from your protectors.
With a sigh, Cross turned back to you. "this is killer. he's unfortunately always like this..."
"hey, i resent that!" the aforementioned skeleton grumbled.
"...and that's dust. i should warn you that he likes being left alone most of the time," Cross continued and gestured towards the hooded skeleton.
Dust tilted his head slightly, but other than that brief acknowledgement, said nothing.
You nearly jumped when Killer appeared next to you, even though he couldn't really reach you. Apparently, he didn't enjoy being ignored even for a moment, but other than looking slightly miffed, he seemed curious.
"soooo," he started to say. "is it true that you really don't remember me?"
You studied him carefully for a moment before slowly shaking your head.
He chuckled, although you thought it sounded rather hollow. "i see... memory issues are always fun," he hummed. "don't worry, cupcake. we'll figure this out, won't we?"
Axe hummed in agreement and Cross gave you a small smile. You weren't sure how they intended to help you with remembering, but they certainly seemed confident enough. Maybe you had misjudged them? They were still scary of course, but they seemed to like you well enough, so maybe everything would be alright.
You weren't sure about Dust though. He hadn't said anything since entering the room, instead choosing to just watch. He almost seemed disinterested in the whole situation. However, when you turned to look at him, he gave you a thumbs up, as if he knew what you had been thinking.
"O-okay, I'll... I'll trust you guys," you said quietly.
While they all seemed pleased by this revelation, Killer managed to be the most enthusiastic, to the point where it felt weird. However, you were only half paying attention because you noticed Dust suddenly shift and glance out into the hall. Whatever or whoever he'd seen was apparently a big deal, since he immediately straightened up and moved out of the way.
Another Monster stepped into the bedroom, and while he kind of looked similar to the others, you weren't sure if he was actually a skeleton. He was covered in a black inky substance and four tendrils emerged from his back. His right eye socket was obscured, but his left held a cyan eyelight that looked sort of similar to Axe's. Even the bathrobe he was wearing was black, although you weren't sure if it was also covered in the strange substance or not.
"What is going...? Oh, I see..."
The moment his eyelight landed on you, his permanent smile sharpened and you felt a chill run down your spine. Without thinking, you wrapped your arms around Axe's cervical vertebrae and tried to make yourself as small as possible. You didn't have to ask to know that this new person was much more dangerous than the others.
To his credit, Axe took almost being throttled rather well and carefully pulled your arms away, simultaneously shifting you into a better position. " 's all right, button," he murmured while carefully stroking your hair. "just our boss, nightmare."
What a fitting name for someone who looked like something your brain would inadvertently conjure up to scare you. Unfortunately, Axe's attempts to soothe your anxiety were ineffective and you only clung tighter to him.
Nightmare let out a soft chuckle as he crossed the room, apparently finding your fear amusing. It didn't help that no one stopped him, although you felt Axe tense up ever so slightly when he drew closer. Even Cross silently stepped aside, but by the way he clenched his fists by his sides, you didn't think he had wanted to.
"You aren't wrong to be afraid," Nightmare said to you quietly. "But I'm not going to hurt you, dear." You didn't miss the fact that he also had sharp claws and shied away when he gently moved some of your hair out of your face, although there wasn't really anywhere to go. He scrutinized you for a moment before glancing up at Axe. "May I see her?"
The giant of a skeleton let out a small huff and narrowed his eye sockets. Rather than immediately obey, he turned his attention to you. "think you can be brave for me?" he asked. "you can trust him, alright?"
You didn't believe him at all, but it didn't seem like you had much of a choice. So, you took a deep breath and nodded. "I-I'll try..."
"i know ya can," Axe murmured. He managed to ruffle your hair one more time before gingerly passing you over to his boss.
Nightmare was a lot more gentle than you had expected. While at first he held you with both arms, he soon added one of his tendrils to free up one of his hands. The interesting part was that the inky substance covering him didn't come off onto your skin or clothing. It was cool to the touch and sort of squishy, but you could still feel his bones underneath. His tendrils were even more spongy than his body, and while they weren't immediately obvious, there were rows of little suction cups along the underside. They struck you as being similar to an octopus' tentacles, which was somehow oddly amusing to you.
"This is all rather confusing, isn't it?"
"Y-yeah," you murmured, ducking your head against his sternum.
Nightmare hummed softly and lifted your chin with a phalanx. For a moment, he stared at you intently, which only served to make you more uncomfortable, but you felt like you couldn't look away. It wasn't like he was forcing you to maintain eye contact, but he had a sort of commanding presence that was almost enthralling.
His eye socket widened slightly and then he broke eye contact. You were left feeling more confused. What had he seen? Was there something wrong with you? By the other's earlier reactions, you knew that they knew something had happened, but you just didn't know what.
"I'm going to take her to Dr. Baggs," he stated firmly. "He should be able to figure out what happened."
Cross looked a little uncertain but didn't protest. "that's probably a good idea."
Axe nodded in agreement.
Even Killer seemed to think it was a good idea. "don't worry, sweetie, the doc knows his stuff." He winked and shot you a pair of finger guns.
"I'll need to talk with each of you later," Nightmare said as he turned to leave. "The sooner we get to the bottom of this the better."
You chewed at your bottom lip. "I-is there something w-wrong with me?"
Nightmare ran his claws through your hair in what was likely an attempt to be comforting, but his movements were stiffer than Axe's had been. "That is why I want to get an expert's opinion," he answered in a softer tone. "I wouldn't say there's anything wrong in particular, but something has certainly affected your physical form."
Dust gave a slight nod as you were carried out of the bedroom. If you weren't suddenly so anxious about your current situation, you might've waved goodbye or done anything to acknowledge him in return. As it stood though, you barely glanced at him before Nightmare whisked you away and down the still very dark hallway.
"Close your eyes, dear."
Nightmare was back to his earlier stern tone. You thought about mentioning that you couldn't even see where he was taking you, but then he stopped walking and looked down at you. Thanks to the glow of his cyan eyelight, you could tell that he wore an expectant expression and that he wasn't giving you the option to say no.
So, you gave in. You closed your eyes, but only after snuggling further into his hold.
"Good girl, now keep them closed until I say." With that, you felt his tentacles coil around you, sort of like a cocoon, so that there was no chance of somehow becoming separated from him.
You nodded against his collarbone.
The ambient sounds of the castle suddenly faded and were replaced with dead silence. The temperature also turned cooler than it already was, but only for a moment. Then, everything shifted again. You began to notice the sound of air conditioning and the occasional beeping noise.
"It's alright, you may open your eyes now," Nightmare murmured softly.
To your surprise, you were somewhere entirely different. The vast ceiling and gray stonework had been replaced by a narrow corridor and sterile tiles. Instead of torch sconces on the walls, there was now fluorescent tube lighting along the ceiling. Unfortunately, the air was still just as chilly as the castle had been and you huddled closer to Nightmare in an attempt to conserve what body heat you had.
The aforementioned skeleton seemed to notice your shivering. He wrapped another of his tendrils around your small form, but it didn't help much since he wasn't exactly warm blooded like you were. Still, you appreciated his attempt and the added support was comforting.
There were a lot of closed doors in this hallway, but at the end there was one that looked like it had been heavily reinforced. Nightmare stopped in front of this door and knocked before stepping back to wait. You looked up at him curiously, but when he didn't say anything, you turned your attention back to the door.
There wasn't any visible knobs nor an obvious way to open the door, although you did notice a keypad set into a nearby wall. Instead of numbers, the buttons had strange symbols in a seemingly random order. Could they be from another language or maybe a code? Just above the keypad, there was a small screen and next to that, a small blue light. Or maybe it was a sensor? You weren't sure, but every now and then, it would pulse before returning to normal.
Just then, the screen flickered to life and a skeleton appeared, although he was rendered in varying shades of blue.
"you should know i'm very- oh. it's you."
The speakers didn't seem to be very good quality, but you could still tell this skeleton had a deep voice. He also sounded irritated, especially when he recognized Nightmare. With the camera's quality, you couldn't make out much, but he seemed to wearing an unusual high collared coat? Was he really a doctor?
"I'm sure you're absolutely swamped with work, like usual," Nightmare responded. His tone sounded almost snarky and you noticed the corners of his permanent smile stretch into more of a sneer. It faded almost immediately and you felt his grip on you tighten ever so slightly. "However, I need your expertise, doctor."
Baggs' eyelights flicked to you and he narrowed his eye sockets suspiciously. After a moment, he sighed, "fine, but you'll owe me for this..."
After a moment, you heard five distinct thunks as each of the bolt locks retracted. With a hiss, the heavy metal paneling parted to reveal the room beyond. The whole process felt like you were about to enter a bank vault, but you weren't sure why a simple doctor would need so much security.
The room was filled with large tanks, gray filing cabinets, and various other instruments that you couldn't name. A beefy computer with multiple monitors was set up on a large desk that took up the bulk of one wall. There were also a few more normal pieces of furniture like a couch, a small table and chairs, and two hospital beds shoved into one corner. It was definitely more of a lab than an office, having been built with function in mind rather than comfort.
"you better have a very good reason for bringing me a child."
Dr. Baggs had his arms crossed when the two of you entered the laboratory. He was nearly a foot shorter than Nightmare, and while he bore some similarities to the other skeletons you'd met previously, he was also very different. For one, his eyelights were different colours; his left being a soft magenta while the other was a pale white. He was wearing a lab coat, but it had a cape with magenta highlights in the lining. Combined with the long black rubber gloves he was wearing, you thought he looked more like a mad scientist from a cartoon than a doctor.
"Oh c'mon, Baggs. I'm sure it's not as bad as you think," a feminine voice called out.
You hadn't noticed the small desk in the far corner, nor the woman who'd been previously organizing several stacks of papers behind it. She had dark medium length hair that was slightly wavy, greenish blue eyes, and a pale complexion. She was wearing a thick green turtleneck sweater and black pants.
She smiled and walked around the desk to join the rest of you. "It's nice to see you again, Nightmare, but who is this?" she asked, looking at you.
"This is the human Horror and Cross found a year ago after her AU collapsed, remember?" He gave you an affectionate squeeze with his tentacles before glancing down at you. "This is Minty. You've met her a few times actually, but she's not in the castle as often as she used to be."
Minty cocked her head, giving you a curious look as she studied your face. "Oh! Yes, you were training to be a healer, if I'm not mistaken."
Well now you had even more questions. What was an AU? How come everyone seemed to remember things that you couldn't? What had happened to you?
Baggs' expression softened slightly and he uncrossed his arms. "let's just get this over with so you can go back to your fancy castle," he grumbled.
While he still sounded a little annoyed, he did seem relieved that you weren't some random kid that Nightmare had decided to kidnap. You didn't blame him though. Neither Baggs nor Nightmare seemed to like the other and you had a feeling the doctor didn't enjoy being roped into unsavoury business.
~ ~ ~ <3
"Here."
You looked over at Minty, noticing that she was offering you a piece of candy.
"Thanks," you murmured, carefully unwrapping the sweet.
She smoothed out your hair a little and smiled. "You did good by the way. I don't think Baggs is used to having such a...cooperative patient."
You let out a quiet hum, glancing over at the other side of the room where Nightmare and the doctor in question were going over the results of the tests. Their expressions were indecipherable and they were speaking to each other quietly, so you couldn't tell what they were saying.
Towards the end of the check up, Baggs had attached a few wires to your chest, which apparently allowed him to see a scan of your soul on his tablet. If you hadn't felt so nervous, you might have thought it was amazing that he could do that, but you were just glad he hadn't had to summon your soul in the first place.
Unfortunately, if the slightly concerned look he got when he read over the results was anything to go by, then there was something seriously wrong with your soul. The other adults also seemed to notice, and while Nightmare was quick to try and understand the situation, Minty had elected to distract and comfort you instead.
It was nerve wracking to say the least. You didn't know what was going on and no one was explaining anything. How bad was it? Were you going to die?
Minty's fingers moved from your head to your back, tracing slow patterns across your shirt. Every now and then, she would apply a bit more pressure, almost like a gentle massage, before returning to a more mindless rhythm.
You couldn't focus on anything. The room felt like it was spinning and the only sound you could hear was the pounding of your own heart. Just as the panic was beginning to overwhelm you, a warm feeling seemed to blossom from your chest, spreading out until your entire body felt wrapped up in a blanket of hope. It was disorientating; this feeling wasn't yours and you didn't know where it had come from.
Minty's hands tightened on your shoulders, jolting you back to reality. "It's going to be alright, sweetie," she whispered in your ear.
The realization that she had somehow been able to manipulate your emotions sent a chill down your spine. You whipped your head around and stared at her in shock. Did she also have magic like you did?
Seemingly reading your mind, Minty gave you a wry smile and patted your shoulder. "Sorry if my Intent startled you. I thought you seemed a bit on edge and I wanted to help."
You opened your mouth to ask what she meant, when Nightmare suddenly let out a growl of frustration.
"I don't care what you think, I'm not leaving her here!" His body was rigid, save for the occasional twitch from his tentacles, as if he was doing everything in his being to keep from lashing out at the doctor.
To your surprise, Baggs didn't even flinch, instead giving the angry god an almost bored look. His mismatched eyelights briefly flicked to his tablet before looking over at Minty, who silently shrugged.
Apparently, Nightmare wasn't happy with his protests being ignored and he moved closer, effectively pinning Baggs against a nearby desk. "Listen and listen well," he hissed, prodding the doctor's sternum with a clawed finger. "She deserves to stay with people who care about her. I made a mistake and I'm going to fix it, understand?"
Baggs said nothing, continuing to passively stare at Nightmare. Finally, he let out a sigh and looked away, running a gloved hand over his face. "fine, do what you think is best. this whole mess is outside my expertise anyways," he muttered.
"Nightmare?" At the sound of Minty's quiet question, both skeletons turned to look at her. "What did you do?" She sounded concerned and a little suspicious at the same time.
The god's good eye socket widened and you thought he looked almost...guilty? He started to walk towards both of you, but stopped himself a few paces away.
"Nothing, I did nothing," he finally answered.
Minty closed the distance, fixing him with an unimpressed look and crossing her arms. "Really? You're telling me you aren't the reason our friend is like this now? I thought you prided yourself on always telling the truth?"
Her accusations seemed to hit a nerve. "I have never lied," Nightmare hissed. He took a step forward, so that he was all but leering over the smaller woman, his tendrils flicking with irritation. "No, I am the reason." His cyan eyelight flicked lower, briefly focusing on her chest before refocusing on her face. "She's like you, and I did nothing..."
Minty let out an audible gasp, her hand quickly covering her mouth as she stepped back. The tension in her body seemed to evaporate all at once and her shoulders slumped. She glanced at you, concern written all over her face, before turning back to the god.
"Why?" she murmured. "Did you forget she was an...incode?"
"No. I just... I didn't think my men would bond with another human. I didn't think she would stick around this long. I thought your relationship with them was the exception, not the rule."
Minty clenched her fists at her sides, as if she was barely restraining her anger. "Get out," she growled. "If you're serious about this, you have a lot of fixing to do."
Nightmare nodded stiffly, "I'm sorry." He held eye contact with her for a few seconds, his eyelight flickering with an unknown emotion. Slowly, he tore himself away and walked over to the bed, carefully gathering you into his arms.
You didn't protest in the slightest, simply allowing him to tuck you against his ribcage. His tentacles coiled securely around your torso, both supporting and comforting you.
Neither Minty nor Baggs said anything, although the former refused to look at Nightmare as he left with you. Baggs briefly caught your eye, but he soon turned his attention to Minty, placing his hand on her arm. He looked concerned, almost like he was going to say something, but the heavy doors slid shut before you could hear anything.
This time, Nightmare didn't need to tell you to close your eyes. You buried your face into his robe, letting out a quiet sob and clutching the dark fabric so tightly that your knuckles turned white.
Rather than immediately teleport back to the castle, Nightmare hesitated. "I know, dear," he murmured, tracing slow lines up and down your back with his claws. "I won't judge you for being afraid or upset."
You cried softly for a few minutes as he continued trying to soothe you. "I'm...going to die..." you finally whispered.
His grip on you tightened and he let out a quiet hiss under his breath. "No. I won't let that happen." His tone was firm, leaving no room for doubt in your mind, and so, you nodded silently rather than protest.
Before you knew it, the constant drone of air conditioning faded away, replaced by the familiar sound of a crackling fire. When you opened your eyes, you realized that you were in a surprisingly modern living room.
There was a large tv surrounded by a plush couch and a couple beanbags. You noticed a large stone fireplace on another wall that was providing most of the light in the room, other than the glow from the tv and some light seeping in from an adjoining room of course.
Killer was lounging on the couch, playing what looked like a beat 'em up game on the tv. You didn't see Dust or Horror anywhere, but Cross had just finished adding fresh fuel to the fireplace across the room.
Nightmare cleared his non-existent throat, drawing the attention of the two skeletons. "We're back."
Two skulls whipped in your direction and the video game was quickly paused. Cross immediately appeared at your side, his eyelights scanning your face to see if you were alright. His bonebrows furrowed when he noticed that you had been crying and he glanced up at Nightmare.
"i'm guessing it's not good news?" he asked quietly.
Nightmare said nothing, but his expression must have been confirmation enough for the monochromatic skeleton. His tendrils loosened before letting go of you entirely.
"She will be fine for the time being," he started to say. "I have to locate Error and convince him to help. I trust the rest of you can look after her until then?"
Cross looked puzzled for a second, but quickly recovered and nodded. "yes, of course!" he exclaimed, holding out his arms for you.
Rather than immediately hand you over, Nightmare let out a quiet hum. His good eyelight flicked to Killer, who was now leaning over the back of the couch with a surprisingly serious look on his face, then to Cross again before turning his attention to you. He shifted your weight to one arm, gently tracing your face with his now free hand. He seemed to be examining you, committing your facial features to memory. While he said nothing, you noticed that beneath the look of determination, his gaze held a sort of tenderness as well.
He broke the unofficial staring contest to finally place you in Cross' waiting arms. The skeleton shifted you into a position where you were almost perching on his shoulder, but where you had the option to rest your head against his own skull if you wished, which you did.
Killer grinned and winked at you. "don't worry, we'll take good care of her, boss."
Nightmare nodded, "Depending if he is in a good mood, I might be back quickly, but I'm not counting on it." He glanced at you and Cross. "I am sure the others will be glad for the chance to dote on our precious human. I would like to have a word with Killer, so why don't you two go find them?" he asked in a gentle tone of voice that seemed to be more directed at you than the skeleton.
Cross smiled and lightly squeezed you. "c'mon juniper, i think horror was planning to make your favourite kind of cookies earlier." He started to carry you into the adjoining room you had spotted earlier.
You couldn't help but wonder what Nightmare was planning. What had he meant by you being similar to Minty? Why was he blaming himself? Why had you forgotten everything?
"what can error do that the doctor can't?" Killer asked quietly.
Nightmare hesitated for a moment and you strained to hear what he might say next.
"Fix corrupted code..."
