Hello and thank you for asking and yes, absolutely!!! I may have accidentally gotten this particular piece of momentum going, but the amount of attention word-stream’s shameless theft got online is what ultimately led to the CEO at least temporarily hiding the works from view. I am just one person with a limited amount of resources and I’m a little worried that, now that people no longer see their fanworks listed, the attention might die down, and Cliff Weitzman’s willingness to cut it the fuck out will fade right along with it. It’s pretty obvious that Weitzman himself is counting on that happening.

The work fandom did in such a short amount of time is fantastic, but right now I’m mostly seeing a lot of ‘could you’ and ‘do you think you will…’ and ‘someone should…’ and ‘why hasn’t anyone…’, and I would like to extend a collective ‘Why not you?’

Cliff Weitzman has now blocked me on the-platform-formerly-known-as-Twitter, as it’s likely the place he feels he has the most to lose reputation-wise. I would love it if, specifically on that platform (and possibly his Instagram, as well), we simply didn’t allow him to pretend nothing happened because our works are still on word-stream’s servers. It would be great if we could work together to keep up the pressure until Weitzman removes the stolen work entirely and/or comes out with some kind of genuine ‘my bad, i won’t do it again’.

I’m staying on the lookout for further fuckery, but I really hope you all will, too!

Hi! I've read a handful of your blogs here and I wanted to say I really like them. Even though I haven't seen for myself any of the shows/movies/etc you've talked about, I love how passionate you are, especially about the things you love.

Which brings me to Kill la Kill - my only experience with that anime is literally a couple of clips I watched when I was a teenager, and forgot about a couple of weeks later. Now I (sort of) know the gist of the overall plot by reading about it. But having read several of your essays on it, how invested you are kinda rubs off on me despite not having actually watched the show XD - like, I can feel how much you love these characters.

With that off my chest, I had a question in mind regarding the ending. Again, I don't know every little detail about the story as a whole, but I know that Honnōji Academy is destroyed at the end.

But do you think it would have been cool if the academy was reformed rather than destroyed?

I mean, Satsuki ran the place with an iron fist, and if she reformed, I don't see why the academy couldn't. Imagine Honnōji being a place that ran on cooperation and nurturing of each other's strengths rather than ruthlessness.

Think that's a good idea, or do you think it wouldn't work?

Oh my gosh?? I'm absolutely blown away that my writing can capture interest even without knowledge of the media (and am so curious about how you found me!). Thank you so much.

As to your question: hmm! That's a really good one that I've been pondering for a while (my apologies for the very belated response). One question that comes to mind in response is what a school (or any place) truly is. Is it the location? The building? The people?

If it's the people who made Honnouji Academy what it is, then Satsuki reforming is, in essence, the place reforming. The physical building isn't what made the school what it is.

But I think there's meaning in the inanimate. I'm reminded of an episode of Batman Beyond, "Shriek," where Bruce fights to keep the place where his parents died preserved. Terry wonders why—wouldn't it be best to tear it down? To forget the awful memory? But Bruce throws back at him, "Do you want to forget what happened to your father?"

In Batman Beyond, Crime Alley is left in tatters. It's abandoned, it hasn't been refurbished, and Bruce actively doesn't want it to be. There's meaning in leaving it as it is; it's a reminder of why Bruce became Batman and why the work he does is important.

Perhaps similarly, Honnouji Academy itself doesn't totally disappear. It sinks to the bottom of Tokyo Bay and becomes less immediately visible, but it still exists, and nothing is rebuilt on top of it. The memory of what Satsuki had done, and what she must never become again, lies just beneath the surface. And, because it's just beneath the surface, no one is going to try to make it into something new like the attempts with Crime Alley.

That said. I can also see worth in making a place once known for causing harm into a place that fosters love. Things can change without forgetting and disrespecting what came before.

But maybe there's a "line"? And I could see Honnouji Academy as crossing that line, where keeping it and trying to transform it does a disservice to the atrocities that occurred there, and that's why it ultimately sinks.

For 23, the three key words I'd use to describe my writing:

. Descriptive. I love weaving imagery and challenging myself to incorporate different senses 😚

Humorous. A little zing or funny inner dialog work in comedic *and* serious pieces 😉

Engaging. I want readers to be just as invested in characters as I am.

My main issue with flannagan is that Shirley Jacksons work is all about the perils of the nuclear family etc

Jackson isn't some hugely outdated bigoted writer who's ideas need subverting and challenging (at least not in this story. Idk about the rest of her work)

Jackson novel was about how people who don't fit are vunerable a chewed up and spat out by institutions like romance and family

And it's like flannigan didn't get that. Or idk thought yay family was a more radical take

Idk i haven't seen the show recently so I may be misremembering but I feel like the majority of the criticism was that he didn't get / ignored the really interesting thing the book was doing.

I completely understand and respect those views.

I guess to me he did adapt it and made it his own and to me he wanted there to be hope in something that is supposed to be the end all be all of one's support. I HEAR you and yes, agree that the ideals weren't exactly what Jackson had in mind when writing the book and setting the tones and ideas. But for a creator who DID change it as much as he did, I personally feel that he did his best to take the subject matter into consideration, unlike other things I've seen where they just completely disregard certain aspects.

Like, as a quick example: Theo's sexuality. He stated himself that it was important to him and Kate (Theo) to open with her in the night club hooking up with a woman to immediately recognize that part of the character whereas the 1999 movie more or less skated over. In the novel, Theo is very much hinted at being a lesbian (because of course when the book was published, things were a lot different). My point being that while he lost some aspects while filming, he tried hard to make something good. Did he succeed? That's up for debate and that's totally fine. The thing with art is that people interpret it differently. There's the possibility that we're seeing exactly what he was thinking when reading it himself. I'm not saying your analysis is wrong and that he's right for missing the mark in any way, just that he interpreted it differently

There's also the perils of the filmmaking process as a whole in the rewrites and what Netflix wanted and how the writing process actually went. I know that when they started filming they didn't have everything written out. Maybe there were other writers or the production company making changes (I do know there were several scenes cut that he didn't want to get rid of), I don't know. All we have is the final product, that's all we get to see. We don't know what got pushed, saved and cut.

It's been a few years since I've read the book and even though I remember a lot about it, the human mind is fallible and maybe I'm on the other side of you where the show is more prevalent in my mind so I'll definitely need a reread and to reexamine the show, do a side by side comparison. But thank you for pointing all of that out, I can understand your plight with him in that sense.

[I do not have an english degree and it has been years since I was in college (even more since I was in the class where we actively discussed the book itself) so there's a lot that I may misspeak on as far as themes of the book, etc. ]

Let me say this to close: separating the show from the book, in my personal opinion, the show is one of the best I have ever seen and greatly appreciate his work on it. KNOWING he did not initially come up with the ideas for the story and that he had a fuloundation to build upon, I still think he did really well. He could've done worse and not worked as hard to preserve as much of the original story as he did. (I think I made the distinction in my original post but to reiterate: I think I'm okay with a lot of it because I feel like this is a fanfic he's made of Jackson's work )

I have a couple hobbies that I’d like to share!

First and foremost is my most obvious one: drawing and art. I’ve been developing my skills for around 9 years and it’s been my main tool of expression. I mostly draw people and characters and even make my own OC’s (now that I mention it I really need to post more art stuff on here)

Secondly, I love to cook! Ever since I could remember I’ve been helping out with my mom and family in the kitchen. I give full credit to my mom for this hobby because I found that mixing different ingredients and spices are more of a creative science in a way. Sure I’m not like Gordon Ramsey or anything; I’d consider myself more of a home cook

Finally, I’ve been sort of dipping my toes into writing again. There’s nothing finished just yet, but if I do make anything I’d be more than happy to post it on my blog!

That’s pretty much the main stuff I can think of.

Hi. So I’m just starting to get into AEW and oh my word, please give me the deets on Orange Cassidy. I’ve been watching YouTube videos of his matches all day.

He’s my favourite wrestler on AEW! I think his first international reign cemented him as a top star. To me & others tor sure already knew this but i saw a shift in people’s opinions of him toward the end of his reign. I love that for him! He was defending that championship OFTEN! People thought he was just this lazy guy who wrestles and puts his hands in his pockets. There’s also the element of mind games to it and he can go all out if he needs to! Especially when it came to the international championship… you could not pry the gold out of his hands if he can help it! Poor thing. His second reign just finished I know he’s so tired! 😭

As you can tell he is fun to watch!!! No one should ever deny the amazing wrestler he is. Sometimes he moves like a sloth then other times he’s fast like a cat. 🤣 Mind you the moves he manages to pull off with his hands in his pockets are no joke.

Also this isn’t relevant but it is to me. Notice how many times he reaches over to fix his hair. It’s like he has a spidey sense for it. ✨🤣

I think any of his matches toward the end of his first reign were really fun to watch. I remember being at the edge of my seat because any time he can lose the title! He looks physically beaten up and we all know he is exhausted. But he keeps accepting challenges! And he is fighting for his life.

His match against Swerve comes to mind. One against D Garcia where Danny is WORKING our poor man’s back. The one against Penta. Watch this promo at the end. 😭 There’s definitely more. I am listing what comes to mind quickly because I have to quit procrastinating an essay due tonight.
