it’s so cool how in the scene where batman is at the mayor’s crime scene when the first card of riddler’s is shown the mood immediately shifts. you can feel the shift. not only does the riddle rhyme, but the dialogue between the lead detective and gordon that follows also rhymes, until pete comes in and disrupts the mood and the flow of their words. idk i just find it a really interesting way to immerse the audience further into the newfound mystery.

this kind of effect is also used when riddler’s plan is revealed in the last act. as he’s saying, “i’ve parked seven vans…” batman walks in sync with his words. and when the explosions go off “interrupting,” it doesn’t disrupt the mood like pete’s entrance in the first act did, but instead heightens it. it’s the peak of riddler’s plan and rather than taking us out of the mystery it fully immerses us in the answers.
