Nachtmagen!Hypno is such a powerful idea. Though honestly, I kind of want to keep magic shenanigans just to Xisuma due to admin + hagsfiend morality lore.

Instead of fryngot (the yellow-eye power), I would bend it a little to give Hypno some kind of fleck-power in a similar vein to Mist/Hortense in the books. Perhaps he was hatched in an area with a high density of flecks and it gave him a similar minor paralysis ability to a hagsfiend’s fryngot. Not enough to yeep another owl but enough to make them very uncomfortable (or he could just be like that, who knows).

But, Hypno being literally divined to have classically dark magic Nyra-style but just kinda being a guy is also hysterically funny to me.

Let’s compromise. Ambiguously-and-suspiciously-nachtmagen!Hypno who might have hagsfiend magic powers but also just might not. He’s awfully dark-feathered and ragged for a Tyto. No one knows. No one is even certain if Hypno knows.

On the Joe Hills point, YES! He does have starsight, how on earth did you read my personal notes for this au??? /lh.

And I’m completely with you, he is definitely soooo weird about it. He gives out prophecies but starsight doesn’t actually have words with the visions so I imagine it’s literally just him writing poems about his dreams and then reporting it to other Hermits like it's real-life fact.

He has something like a 50/50 accuracy rate and doesn’t actually make too much effort to take it seriously to begin with. World’s least reliable prophet except when he’s right which is sometimes.

Grian might actually have firesight to me (instead of starsight to match his colliering job) but I could also read it as him being just super paranoid and liking staring at flames a bit too much.

In this AU, he is very moon-adverse, and if we wanted to be angsty about it, I could imagine him not taking the idea that he has any celestial body-related power well at all (even if starsight is only related to stars in name alone).

In either situation, you’re right. He is ignoring everything, the future cannot reach him if he closes his eyes to it.

(I also just might just leave Grian's maybe precognition powers ambiguous because lore-wise because I don't want to stack his plate as op's special-est little guy too much.)

hunched over at his desk, busy checking and encircling items quickly with his red pen as his hazel brown eyes scanned the page for the answers written by the students in all kinds of handwriting. he sighed as he shook his head, the test he gave the students were probably way too hard... or these kids were always lying whenever he'd ask them if they understood what he was saying.

"what are these kids even putting on the blanks spaces? i'm surprised their brains are better teachers than me–coming up with their own answers..." he muttered under his breath as he kept encircling the answers on one whole page for this one student's paper. as he felt his eyes drooping from the fatigue he got from the amount of incorrect answers he had to correct, he also felt a light tap on his shoulder. he turned his head wearily to look at the one who tapped his shoulder, coming face to face with your beaming face. "oh, miguel, you okay?" you asked him with a gentle voice as miguel nodded, groaning slightly under his breath as he did; he was okay physically, but emotionally, he was incredibly dejected and disappointed by his students' performance in his tests.

"lemme guess, your students breezed through your quizzes again?" you asked him with a sympathetic grin as miguel nodded weakly again. "they can't even bring themselves to put out any effort for my sake. i spend countless hours being wide awake at 2 AM, triple checking my quizzes to make sure it's just right for them–not too easy that i'll get questioned by the admins if i'm taking my job seriously, but not too hard that they're plotting to give me a bad rating for the evaluation to get back at me. it's... so difficult." he said with a sigh as he shook his head, trying to shake the sleepiness from his all-nighters away. you placed a comforting hand on his shoulder, hoping that you could help him in any way–you and miguel were in different departments, with you being an elementary art teacher and him being a high school biology teacher.

it was much easier for you since the kids in your class were very fond of your bright, bubbly personality and your open-mindedness when it came to art; the kids assigned to you were also very obedient and would strive hard to impress you, to make you proud. meanwhile, miguel's class was harder to manage since he was dealing with hormonal teenagers that think they know everything they've doing. you pitied him so badly, the kids he was handling were seriously not gonna give him a break and at least make his job a bit easier by listening. "sorry, mig..." "it's fine, it's fine, i'll... test them again this week. that extra unscheduled quiz and printing costs will come out of my paycheck, sure, but i need to make sure they understand what i'm saying." he said with a sigh as you moved your chair closer to him.

you placed your hand over miguel's that was clutching the red pen and lightly gripped it. he looked up at you in response to your touch and widened his eyes at the fact you were touching him. "what?" he asked you with a quizzical look in his eyes, reflecting the bright, beaming shine in your own eyes. "if you ever need any help with these kids, ever need someone to listen to you, i'm here for you, miggy–from one teacher to another." you said with a sweet smile, which made miguel's face contort into one of surprise. his face heated up at your kind words, with him nodding hurriedly and facing away from you–his face growing ever more flustered as he dwelled on your words. "um... thank you, a lot." he said with a hushed, flustered voice.

"i know a few therapeutic art techniques, i'm gonna teach the students about that for the next few weeks–wanna try them with me?" you asked him, hoping he'd agree. surprisingly, your hopeful wish was heard and granted–miguel looked at you, and with a slight, bashful grin, he told you, "sure. i haven't done anything creative for... a good long while in my life. it might just help with the stress and migraines i've been getting lately. um, hit me up? if you're, y'know, gonna start. that is what they say nowadays, right? 'hit me up'?" he asked you awkwardly as your stifled laugh when he said those three words exploded into peals of laughter at him being confused about gen z jargon.

miguel chuckled slightly to himself at his little blunder, but his chuckle of embarrassment then became one of fluster as you offered to help him check the heaps of test papers he had piled up. miguel didn't know what he did to deserve such a sweet, caring friend like you–with more patience than he could ever muster in his whole lifetime. if you would have him, maybe... he could take you out sometime and help you forget about computing grades and checking papers for one night?

out of confusion gives a sheepish and awkward "thaaaaaaanks..." before realizing that you just fell from the top of the tent and splatted onto the ground. sure youre going to be fine, given that this is in the digital world. but pomnis shock fades and is replaced by worry and concern as she runs over to make sure youre alright... actually i dont even think she would register that you flirted with her, much less that you did it to play off your shame... at least not until later, probably hours after the event as she replays the moment in her head before going to bed... honestly the line was probably so bad it made her inwardly cringe, just a tiny bit

tries not to be phased by the line but honestly i can see ragatha being into cheesy and cliche shitty pickup lines, but after a moments pause shes fretting over you and trying to peel you off of the circus floor... lightly scolds you for even attempting something so dangerous. i mean sure, you wont die since this is the digital world and you wont have any long lasting damage and unlike pomni, ragatha is very aware and very used to this fact. but theres still that instinct, you know? probably gets onto you for trying to play it off, i mean youre in pain and your first instinct is to come onto her? probably tries to deter you from doing things that can get you hurt in the future....

JAX:

probably retaliates with a.... whats the opposite of a flrty pick up line? like he deflects it and crushes it in a teasing way... regardless of if he knows youre doing it to save your pride. no one flusters this man, no-sir-ee-bob! similar to caine hes not going to let you hear the end of it, but he also brings up the incident of you being clumsy to further push the point... a little bit of a dick about it but he thinks its funny, probably also laughs just a little. i mean he said he likes seeing funny things happening to people, and as long as no one is actually being REALLY hurt/permanently hurt/dying then everything is free game in his eyes

so you know how in pomnis part, she doesnt even register that youre trying to playfully flirt with her but she realizes it hours later? honestly i dont think kinger would recognize that it was a pickup line, ever. hes way too busy panicking and freaking out and trying to pull you up off of the ground. probably gently shaking and rocking you about as hes checking your body over for any injuries, forgetting that you cant really get those in the digital world in the heat of his panic... seriously, one of these days youre going to give this poor man a heart attack, please take it easy for his sake....

rolls their eyes and scoffs, before grabbing your arm and pulling you up. theyre open about saying that your pick up lines are dumb and cheesy, but they dont exactly make fun of you for using them to protect your pride. do they think its pathetic? only a little bit, just own up to the shame man, thats what they think you should do... but its your choice... no they just think the lines themselves are... euuguhgh... you know? honestly if they knew any better lines theyd probably offer to teach you some, but alas, they dont. they dont really strike me as the type to be a flirty person... probably gives you /that/ look when you so much as imply youre going to do something that has a high change of ending in disaster

GANGLE:

not phased by the pickup line, shes just standing there in shock. you know how gangle looked when zooble got disassembled in the pilot? she looks at you with a similar look, if not the exact same one. if her comedy mask if broken, perhaps she even lets out a short and soft whine in place of crying... if she doesnt burst out into panic tears, at least. makes no comment about your flirting for the most part, but i think she would meekly try to push you away from doing anything dangerous... ponders

hi "anti-autism diagnosis anon" here. i get where the rest are coming from with that there's no harm in projecting. personally, i don't have autism myself so obviously what the other players with autism feel do provide insight and an alternative perspective to others without autism. it's completely valid.

i work as a dr in a mental hospital so i see severe autism regularly, so seeing the characters being labelled as autistic without much consideration felt like it was taking away from the seriousness of the patients i see that are warded because their autism symptoms are so severe that they cannot live in the community. in recent years there is a widespread phenomenon of overdiagnosis (not just in ASD but also ADHD OCD MDD etc). sometimes it's important to remember that ASD isn't a quirk but something people struggle with daily, which isn't really shown in the sdv characters. personally i am neurodivergent and it annoys me when others label themselves with the same diagnoses i have when they are referring to their quirks and habits, because my struggles feel invalidated.

ultimately, if you enjoy the characters because they have similarities to you, you do you. it's nice to see that people feel less alone even if it's simply to relate to a video game character. just thought i'd explain my thoughts since some asked. thanks admin and others for providing input as people with autism, it is meaningful to me as a healthcare provider to understand my patients better.

tbh it's hard to believe that there's a doctor sending asks on my silly little sdv blog :P but i also like to assume the best so ill choose to believe it. regardless, thank u for the followup mssg. my only input is that that's exactly my issue with diagnosis, you can only be determined 1. autistic or 2. not autistic when it's well known that autism is a spectrum. there's "severe" cases, as you put it, but there's also plenty of people with autism who are denied diagnosis pretty much because its "not bad enough" (based on mine and friends' experiences). im sure most sdv fans talking about characters being autistic are well aware of these nuances tho.
