"Of all the lies that they could have told everyone..." Visibly enraged, Selena stood just outside the innkeeper's desk in Carline's Canopy, and recently heard the tale that was woven in her absence. She stares straight at one table, where Carlisle's Wood Wailer group were eating moments before they noticed her. They now sport the same pale expression as if they had just witnessed a corpse rise from the grave.

The teenage keybearer remembers...

"Of all the LIES!!!" Silver flames nip at her heels and the air around her grew icy cold as she storms towards the group. Her left fist slams down onto their table, leaving a visible indentation mark in the wood, her knuckles white and bleeding. They immediately backed their chairs away from her. Despite her right arm in a sling, they were visibly afraid of her.

"Twelve forfend, n-none of you had the courage to speak the truth, much less face it could you?!" She screams with rage, tears brimming in her eyes, "That your group leader was a bloody liar, a fucking murderer! And none of you are any better!" Onlookers are staring at their table now. Artemis was never known to raise her voice.

"None of you tried to stop him! None of you thought, did any of you have any thoughts before he pushed me off that damned cliff?!" She questions, teeth bared, her voice shaking, "Did none of you think to question...? Probably not, you all have bloody crap for brains! They might as well have been freshly shat Mun Tuy beans from Nophica's ass!"

"A-all you did was watch! All you did was w-watch h-him-" Selena's voice breaks, running her left hand through her hair and the furious thought flickers across her mind, I want you to feel the same hurt and fear I've felt. Her shadow is splintering apart. Her heart thundered in her chest. Silver flames climbing up her shaking legs and jump to her arms.

Before the young keybearer could say any more, she is suddenly grabbed by the shoulder and pulled away from the Wailer's table to be taken outside the Carline Canopy.

When she turns to protest, the Viera woman tightly hugs her, patting her back as if trying to soothe her. The teen trembles and hiccupping as her senses return. She limply rests her head against Meiko's shoulder, feeling emotionally exhausted and a child too little.

"I-I wanna go home....I w-wanna see Mama and my sister again..."

🌈 RAINBOW: orientations and pronouns? - khloe is amorphously trans and uses they/them exclusively! though an occasional she/her is fine. they're also bisexual. - i think crystal is a trans man, and uses he/him exclusively. he's gay, and he's extremely mad about it because feelings are for Losers. (the issue is the feelings, not the orientation) - a'vili is a trans he/they, not strictly a man but like, leaning that way. he's more of a, fuck before feelings sort of guy, and is bisexual.

❤️ RED HEART: what are three of their positive traits? - khloe is extremely fucking ride or die. they love to provide and care for their loved ones, cooking meals and getting things ready for them. they're very honest, and generally do their best to be tactful about it. - crystal is very good at cracking jokes at the appropriate time. he is also extremely ride or die in most circumstances. he's really stupid but in an endearing way so i'm going to say that's a positive. - a'vili............ he. uh. underneath the prickly bitchy outer layer he's actually really caring and even if he won't do it where anyone can see it he'll check up on people in his group. they're actually a really good teacher if you can catch them in a good mood. he's very quick with his words, and thus very good at getting out of trouble.

💙 BLUE HEART: any special abilities or magic? how do they handle it? - khloe has the echo, and it gives them premonitory nightmares. they didn't handle it well when they were a kid but they basically just. don't worry about it now lmao. they're very, very good at white magic, they're not very good with any other type of magic but being a white mage, they don't really use other types of magic anyway unless absolutely necessary. - crystal can hop through dimensions and timelines as he pleases. i have no idea how or why but he can. when he doesn't want to be in a dungeon he just zips out of there, hopping into a different place and then back to his main timeline at a centralised point. he's not very good with Magic, though he's a paladin so he has to use some. - a'vili doesn't really have any like. Special Powers so to speak, and he like. they're okay with magic, i don't know what class they is i just know he's the nuhn's boyfriend, so while he doesn't have special powers he does have special privileges within his society.

🤔 THINKING FACE: what are some of their quirks/mannerisms? - khloe has restless legs, they purr a lot including when they speak when they're excited, and they dig their claws into their palms as a grounding technique to stay calm! - crystal can, well, hop between dimensions and timelines. he likes lying on bench tops and on top of cupboards or the backs of couches or really anywhere he's not supposed to be sitting. he has trouble hiding his temper because his tail lashes quite severely the moment he's even vaguely pissed off. - a'vili is a bitch. he is The Village Asshole. everyone knows it and everyone ignores it unless they're new. they have a specific face they make when they want something (that he SWEARS he doesn't). their mouth runs far, far faster than their brain.

(i couldn't find a bus so i'm doing car!) 🚌 BUS OR CAR: do they have a driver's license? can they operate heavy machinery otherwise? i'm not sure you're required to have a license in eorzea, but none of them have one lmao. khloe can pilot a little mech dealie (maggie) because it was story important lmao. mostly they just ride chocobos

The brisk wind bit at your nose, and you pulled up your scarf, trying to keep away the offending wind. Around you it was a winter wonderland, all made possible in the temperate conditions thanks to Cater, who was filming you skating around on the frozen pond’s surface.

“You know,” you hollered, making sure that you caught his attention, “you should join me! It’s fun!” You came to a stop by the pond’s edge, where Cater was standing with a large thermos.

Cater just shot you a wink, handing you the thermos. “This is for you though, silly!” 

He was deflecting, you could tell; behind that bright and cheery smile that he always seemed to wear around others, you knew when there was something off with Cater. You accepted the thermos though, and took a sip of the spicy apple cider, still piping hot.

You gave him a look and pulled lightly on his coat sleeve. “Yes, but it’s more fun with others, come on Cater!” You stepped back onto the ice, and slowly skated near him, waiting with an eager smile.

He looked at you, and then back at the ice, but he stayed standing in the light snow, shooting you that smile. “But I can’t take photos if I’m out there with you!” He scratched at the back of his neck.

Liar. “Cater,” you looped back around and stepped onto the bank, balancing on your skates, “do you not know how to skate?”

Cater’s smile turned sheepish, and his ‘ahahaha, looks like my gig is up’ chuckle made its appearance. He had been found out. “Never got the chance to,” he hid his face slightly in his scarf, either to keep the cold at bay or to hide that his cheeks were turning pink. “So I’d just slow ya down.”

You took his hand into yours, “Well, I could teach you if you wanted. Just a warning though, you’re gonna fall on your butt a lot, might get a few bruises.”

Cater looked down at your entwined hands. Mittens and gloves separated your skin from touching one another, but Cater could swear that he could feel the sensation nonetheless through the layers of fabric.

“You would? Even if I pull you down with me?” 

The last question wasn’t just about the ice skating; Cater didn’t want to force you to do anything that you didn’t want to… and that included being his friend. His heart seemed to whisper stronger emotions though, but he didn’t want to ruin what the two of you had.

You walked him out to the ice, and the both of you swiftly fell down on the ice, hard. But you just laughed and got right back up again, “Well, we did just fall. There isn’t anything scary about falling down; yes it stings and might leave a gnarly bruise, but in order to move forward we have to fall and get back up. So yes, is what I guess I’m saying.”

Cater looked up at you, the sun illuminating you and the snow glittered behind you. You were holding your hand out again, waiting for him. And Cater took your hand. 

It took him a while to get the hang of it, and he fell down quite a bit, but every time he fell down you helped him back up. And by the time that the sun was setting in the west, the both of you were cold, and both were going to wake up tomorrow with some bruises. It was fun though, which is all that mattered… but that whisper in Cater’s heart was by now singing, and maybe he would listen to it, but for now, he was happy with how the way things were, and he wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world, especially with how much you had smiled today. Your smile and knowing that you had fun with him was enough.
