Ok I'm back and first I want to say thank u so much!!!! I was going to look up the game order so I didn't bother anyone by asking but u laid it out very neatly and I mega appreciate it fhskfjdjfjj.

Back when the 3DS eshop was closing down, a lot of Ace Attorney games were on sale, so I ended up grabbing the original trilogy and SOJ. I haven't touched SOJ yet (and now I probably won't for a while lol, I'll do my best to play in order!!), but I also left the og trilogy collecting dust for a while 💀 I played the first two cases somewhere around a month or two ago, forgot about it, and then fixated on it with a vengeance starting a few days ago. I'm hoping that tomorrow I'll have the time to start the second game in the og trilogy 🤞

As for Miles........ He's a pathetic little guy and I'm hanging all of his shirts in the closet inside out but also I love pathetic little guys so we're married now. Every day I stare into his eyes and remind him of the "not guilty" verdict and then I mess up his hair and while he's distracted I hide one (1) of his fancy dress shoes. When he finds the shoe there's a little sticky note on it that says "not guilty" and I CAN'T STOP THINKING ABOUT HIS ATTEMPT TO IMITATE GUMSHOE'S EXCITED "WHOOP" MILES WAS SO EMBARRASSED BUT THEN HE DID IT AGAIN IN THE CREDITS AND WAS STILL EMBARRASSED ABOUT IT THIS MAN IS SO LAME I ADORE HIM and he needs therapy so bad

As for everything that isn't Miles Edgeworth, I think it is criminal that von Karma tazed Maya so hard that she blacked out and I didn't even get to punch his very punchable face. I crave VIOLENCE I want REVENGE!!!!! She's basically my kid ok I want to see her grow up nice and strong and happy and healthy and uggghhhh 😭 but on that note we were in the police station we were in the police records department when von Karma did that and no one??? Thought to arrest him for assault or anything????? What 😭😭😭 Not even a police report!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Everyone coming together really got me though 🥺 I thought a previous criminal or suspect would somehow make an appearance but I was so pleasantly surprised when it was companions returning instead!!!! Larry!! LARRY!!!!! (I will come back to Larry) And Phoenix and Gumshoe's relationship came such a long way from the first case to now 😭 A lot of Gumshoe's cooperation was really about his trust in Miles, but Phoenix pressing so hard to win that not guilty verdict definitely proved something about himself that was so lovely to watch 🥺🩷 His insistence on trusting his clients (in this case, Miles) is in such staunch opposition to the defense lawyer from the DL-6 case, who only cared about how a win or loss would affect his career and as a result didn't take care to do the full work--to find the real killer--to sort out the real events, the way Phoenix did. Had the DL-6 defense lawyer discovered the truth instead of just getting another win tally on his record, maybe all of this wouldn't have happened... or maybe von Karma would've wormed his way out of it back then, it's hard to tell. But Phoenix didn't half ass it!!! He went all the way bc he kinda had to for Miles's not guilty verdict. I'm so proud of him 😭🩷🩷🩷

MAYA 😭😭😭😭😭 She was so upset about being "useless" even though we literally would've lost the case without her I have been CRYING 😭 When she got herself thrown out of the courtroom earlier in the case I was fr just "but my emotional support :(((( bring her back :(((((((" like I already had to cope without courtroom banter with Miles,,, and then MAYA was gone too wagh 😭 I hope her waterfall training turns out well for her. I miss her already.

It's incredibly good and is probably your best bet because I don't think Capcom is gonna localise the game themselves :'D But yeah it runs on the DeSmuME emulator (well, my copy does anyway). Also Capcom is releasing the localised AA spinoffs (The Great Ace Attorney, or something) this June or July so like yEAH there's a lOT more now not just DD and SoJ :'D Oh and there's Professor Layton x Ace Attorney so yeah

The air that passes into his lungs feel crisper as he walks through the verdant palace gardens to clear his mind.  His steps feeling simultaneously lighter and heavier than they had in years now that everything has been laid bare, he instinctively flexes his right hand.

His heart mourns the loss of his father, of course, but it’s the yoke of guilt that still presses down heavily on his shoulders.  Because he knows his father wants him to be happy and he’d be delighted that he’s free once more, able to finally be with his mother, sister, and adoptive brother.

But not you, at least… not yet.  

He cannot stop replaying the sound you made when the guns of Ga’ran’s henchmen had been pointed at him.  He hadn’t dared turn around, not willing to risk exposing your connection and put you in danger by exposing your identity.  He’d taken great care up until that point to ignore you, immediately having recognized your disguise.  How could he forget after you’d confessed your feelings to him a year ago in the very same one?

Ah, those feelings.  The very same that weigh upon him to this very day, because he still carries his for you.  He knows that he must reveal the truth to you, finally.  You deserve as much, along with a heartfelt apology.  Even if you no longer feel the same… as he’d tried so hard to insure.

Yet he can’t help but wonder if he’d failed on that count, daring to hope like some feeble-minded fool that you could return his feelings still—after all the years the two of you have shared together.

Nahyuta stops to admire an elegant red butterfly and offer a hand out to it.  It flitters onto his finger when he hears familiar footsteps tread on the stone behind him.  

It seems like the reveal will happen sooner than he’d anticipated.

“Still sneaking into the palace, I see.”  He glances over his shoulder toward you, unable to prevent the fondness that seeps into his voice.

He’s quick to notice that your stance is guarded, perhaps a touch bit nervous?  Your eyes don’t quite meet his and while there’s a smile on your face, he knows you too well to not pick up on the pained look in your eyes.  This is clearly hard for you and he knows all too well why.

“Yes, well… you haven’t exactly made it easy to congratulate you.  This is the first time you’ve been alone all day.”

“Congratulate me?”  He quirks a brow with an otherwise neutral expression, politely choosing to not inquire over the fact that you’ve seemingly been stalking him.  He’s not as surprised by that as he probably should be.

“On your freedom.  I…I knew that you wouldn’t betray Dhurke like that.”

Your words hang in the breeze for a few moments and he only blinks at you, long eyelashes fluttering from surprise.  As the two of you stare at one another, he notices a blush spread across your cheeks… likely mirroring his own if the warmth blooming across his own face is any indication.

“You still think so highly of me,” he says, more to himself than to you as he looks back down at the butterfly perched on his finger in contemplation.  It chooses then to take flight… and seemingly you get the same idea.

However, Nahyuta’s reflexes are faster and he’s able to catch your wrist as he calls out your name.  You go rigid under his touch, but don’t pull away (much to his relief).

“Wait, please.  I… there is something most important that I must tell you before you leave,” he says, voice more desperate than he’d like.

After a moment of hesitation, you turn around to face him properly again, eyes still not directly meeting his face.

That will not do.

There’s a slight tremble to his hand as he brings a hand up to tilt your chin towards him, making you look at him properly for the first time since that awful conversation.  The look in his eyes steels into pure determination, looking remarkably similar to his father.

“Thank you, because I do believe that I have inflicted enough suffering upon you for this lifetime.“  He allows his hand to slide up to cup your cheek, thumb caressing your cheek.  You flush further under his touch and your gaze flits away with his own, encouraging him further.  You don’t see how his eyes soften with sorrow at the recollection of what he’d done, of the barbed lies he’d thrown at you…

“Back in the palace on that fateful day, I committed a series of deplorable sins in the hopes that I would protect you… and that, perhaps, you would be able to forgive me for them someday.”

He does not elaborate, allowing for you to compose yourself enough to ask the question for yourself.  When you look at him, the despair he’d sensed earlier is replaced by a newly rekindled hope, a sight that warms his heart like nothing else.

“…a-and what would those be?”

“I spewed many lies… with the most grievous being that I did not love you, because I did.  More than anything.”  He draws his face closer to yours, allowing you for ample opportunity to pull away.  You don’t.

“And I still do.”

You answer him by closing the distance yourself before him, capturing his lips with your own as you throw your arms around his neck.  He smiles into the eagerly returned kiss, uncertain if the warm tears trailing down his face belong to you or himself.  Perhaps both.

Right as he begins to lose himself in the kiss that he’d been dreaming of for so long, there comes a strange fluttering sensation.  The two of you break off the kiss, distracted, only to watch the kaleidoscope of red butterflies pass by, flying around you as they carry on.

One familiar butterfly lingers, circling around the two of you once before flittering after the others on its fragile wings.  He stares after it for a few moments, touched by the meaning.

When he turns back to you, he’s quick to capture your lips this time, more passionately than before as he kisses you with the sacred butterfly’s blessing.

I just finished replaying spirit of justice in my main series ace attorney replay and after all this I’ve concluded that if a 7th game will be made the only logical way to go is for an Athena focused game. Athena Cykes: Ace Attorney. I’m not just saying this in a “im a lesbian and i want a gorl main character” way I’m saying this in a “with the way spirit of justice was written the only logical way to continue the series would be through an Athena game.” Let me explain. 

First of all, Athena has not received good treatment since her debut honestly, but at least she made appearances in every case in dd, whereas in soj she was only (majorly) present for three (3) cases, one of which she was not the pov character of and that only lasted for one investigation and trial segment each (the magical turnabout), and the second where she was the pov character was only a trial and no investigation (turnabout storyteller), and the last was for one trial segment in one of the longest cases in the series (turnabout revolution). To be fair this isn’t the most solid case I could make for why Athena should have a solo game, but I have something else to say. 

In her one solo case, turnabout storyteller, a recurring theme is Simon and Nahyuta treating her like a child or unworthy lawyer, much to her chagrin. Though she does get help from Simon, in the end Nahyuta acknowledges her as a worthy opponent. This is the biggest instance of Athena being treated like a rookie (because she is frankly) but in dialogue in other cases she and others remark on how she has a long way to grow. Most prominently at the end of turnabout revolution where Athena vows to practice and work towards being a better lawyer to make up for Apollo leaving. This sentiment is kinda nerfed in turnabout time traveler where she is just the subject of a gag where she keeps trying to run away from Trucy to avoid becoming her magic assistant, but I digress. 

Anyway what I’m saying is that Athena is not touched upon enough but also is left open ended character development wise in soj, and narratively the only way for the series to continue is to create Athena Cykes: Ace Attorney to follow through with Athena’s story of growth and establish her as an equal to at least Apollo. 

If I’m being honest I really doubt a solo Athena game will ever happen unfortunately because capcom hates her BUT there is no logical way for the series to continue until she receives the development needed to stand alongside Phoenix and Apollo as a full fledged lawyer thank u for ur time 

i guess another apollo solo game could work abt his practice in khura’in but fuck divination seances i never wanna see one again

Part 3 of 3 for @greentrickster 's Lifeswap AU doodles! Featuring approximately 13 designs an explanations for most of them! This is gonna get long, so I hope this read more works.

1) Simple suit

You gotta start somewhere simple, and where better tht just a suit? I honestly don't know that much about suit design but I still tries based on a few references and some notes from vvvvvvyeah on the suit design throughout he series. Also how does one draw an attorney's badge because I have _no_ idea.

2) Closer to home

This is much closer to one of Nahyuta's concept designs (as in, it's nearly the same to he far left one on the third page of concepts on the wiki) because hey, it's easy to pull from what already exists to make something new. The main difference is the coat being longer and a lack of earrings (which I'm keeping consistent, IDK if he should have pierced ears)

3) Vest Boy

From that one weird design whee Nahyuta had an orange vest and and suit. He reminds me of Apollo. Also, hair's down! The pic between 1 and 2 is a rough reference for the length(ending like right around his hips). Also an excuse for posing because I know I need the practice.

4) Jacket and Clasp Under

Honestly my favorite design? Like I could probably change the shirt around some more to be more in line with American/Japanifornian fashion but stilllll

Maybe this is what he wears post-SoJ or something. I don't want to completely toss this design aside.

5) Casual Clothing

This is a two for one deal and the only reference was from a piece of clothing that I own that's like a hoodie sweater but extra dramatic in the back (more material). Still messing with hair styles. Let is basically just putting him u to stuff I own, right is a simple t-shirt over turtleneck. Maybe he's gonna import Plumed Punisher shirts.

6) Peak Lapel

Hey look, something I know the name of! It's very similar to design 1, with peak lapels and more braided hair. There's a few little pieces that still get out, but there's nothing deliberately in front. Probably a case of "I'm having a lot of feelings and anything loose will reveal that".

7) Concept Again

Again taken near directly from concept art. Probably gonna be used with Apollo more than Nahyuta, but I figured I could still doodle it real quick.

8) Apollo style

NOW he really looks like Apollo. Just in a vest and the undershirt with a tie o tie it all together. Probably not gonna go with it but at least now I kinda know how he'd look i his bro's clothes.

9) Causal, mk 2

Well, and some beads too. I don't know what the name of the type of shirt he's wearing(some sort of long sleeve sweater polo) but dang it he looks good in it. And the first appearance of the beads in this sheet, too. I think they might just be wrapped around his right arm under his sleeve most of the time so they're out of sight, but also it was another "pose practice" thing.

10) 6 Again?!

Yeah yeah, it's basically 6 again, but that's cause I figured that'd make sense for him to go around wearing in court. Also I made it bigger. Might just use hem as separate color testing spots to see what looks nice. Also he's not as stressed cause his hair's down.

11) Short Edition

Shortened up the coat a bit and went shoulder braid. Nothing super ridiculous here, honestly it looks pretty casual even though it's not.

12) Dhurke's Coat

Feels time.

He's got Dhurke's jacket a it feels weird to him, wearing it after all his time, but he's got it nonetheless. It's the right size for him, too, since he's the same height as his dad. Maybe this is another post-SoJ look.

13) I don't even know

He looks ten but he's not. He's completely off model but it's like a larger custom version of Dhurke's jacket. Also beads in the neck for once because that's an important part of his design.

And then off to the left we have some quality Trucy ad Nahyuta bonding time. Since Nahyuta doesn't have the perceive powers, he and Trucy and much more of an investgative tag team. She's his assistant that states as you and will sometimes speak up out of nowhere to call you out on lying to he court. They're such a cute tram though, especially because Nahyuta is like a foot taller than her, so sometimes it's easier to just carry her around.

Oh, and the badass boast pose cause I want him to have a moment where Ga'rab wants to know who this person thinks he is so she asks and he just [insert epic reveal here] at her ya feel

Uh... Last thing for now, I feel like tht even if Nahyuta can't channel spirits, he can sort of feel when they're around or (more relevantly) when someone's being channeled. It's a back if the mind sort of thing unless he's right on top of them which makes investigations... interesting, to say the least. How long it is before he picks up on the fact that Dhurke is being channeled, I dunno.

Don't expect anything new for a bit, I have lots of Apollos to make. I have no idea how they're gonna turn out.

Defense attorney Noctis! I mean, he already has the black spiky-on-the-back hair and the blue thematic! Besides the non-impressed sort of attitude at times, where the bouncy sidekick is all “HEY HEY LOOK AT THIS FUNNY THING :D” and he’s just “…eh.” BUT without being a too-serious too-dead-inside person. It fits so ridiculously good, dammit!

Veteran defense attorney Cor, I just- *fangasms* HNNNNNNNGGGGGG, YES! Dear Cor being a mentor to dear Noct, aah. Imagine that; the two standing at the defense’s side, Cor being quiet and just going with hinting Noct at what to do. “Did you hear that, Noct? The witness thinks he’s so smart that he didn’t notice he just let out some vital bit of info. You should press him, but be careful with how you word it.”

Maya!Prompto. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH

BUT IT FITS SO GOOD!? The happy cinnamon roll that’s too pure for this world and is always such a happy presence. Always smiling, being a hyperactive little ball of adorableness, enjoying of kids’ TV shows, and being the most loyal of companions to Noct. :’) The very loyal and happy sidekick, that remains badass in his own way. THIS IS A MIGHTY NECESSITY THAT I HAVE FOR THIS AU WITH THESE ROLES GODDAMMIT *punches through wall*

Everything fits so nicely, but Maya!Prompto is definitely the most accurate. Even when they’re sad it fits! You can just imagine the one frame where Maya has the head slightly down, eyes on Phoenix, and tears on the corner of her eyes, and see Prompto like that instead almost like he was made to take the role aaaaaah!

Ignis as Edgeworth and Gladio as Gumshoe COULDN’T HAVE EVER GOTTEN ANY BETTER.

Prosecutor Ignis, though, CAN YOU IMAGINE THAT. UNGH. To start with, Ignis in fancy suits is already fantastic enough and I need it. Now imagine him going “Objection!” and being all smug and confident about his stuff. I just…love this.

And it also fits really nicely, considering the entire “childhood friends” with Noct! :O   AAAAAH

Gumshoe reminded me of Gladio in some ways, but there were two or three parts where I was like “this is ABSOLUTELY some sort of Gladio”. I mean, Gumshoe likes puppies (he’s super fond of Missile, it seems!), he’s this big and tough looking guy but he’s really just a giant teddy bear, always laughing, and even a little naïve at times, he likes flirting with girls at times, but he’s not rude or bad with them, he has this absolute devotion to Ignis/Edgeworth…and not to forget about that time when Gumshoe arrived to Phoenix’s office asking for a job, saying he could be useful and cook, and said his speciality is “Instant noodles”. Hahahahaha!! And later on he says something about his salary being so poor that he’s been living on instant noodles for who knows how long. ABSOLUTELY GLADIO!

Caligo would work great as Payne just for the fact that they’re both annoying AND I HATE BOTH OF THEM.

Manfred and Caligo both are men older than Miles/Ignis, both killed a figure that was senior to Miles/Ignis, both hold a huge grudge against Miles/Ignis because Miles/Ignis did something better than them or ruined them in some way and both Miles and Ignis actually physically INJURED them, which is the reason both want revenge on the younger ones and want to ruin their lives, and both are always all “lmao I am so perfect”.

Imagine Caligo taking Ignis under his wing pretending to be an ally but really he’s just waiting for the moment to ruin him…D:

It’s Final Gyakuten Saiban Fantasy XV. Also known as Final Ace Attorney Fantasy XV. It sounds- weird now that I read it, BUT IT’S THE MOST EPIC GAME/STORY YOU WILL EVER ENCOUNTER.

Noctis Wright Caelum, rookie defense attorney in the job. He likes blue and black suits and has a spiky black hair, and usually comes up with ideas as he’s on the go. He’s usually “wright” ;D

Meet his mentor! Cor Leonis, a more experienced defense attorney and friend to Noctis’ dad, an attorney retired due to health problems (now worries, he’s fine now that he gets to rest). Cor Leonis, usually coming off as rather serious and cold, but is actually a very caring and friendly ally during trial.

His son, Prompto, a rather bouncy and slightly hyperactive young boy, Noctis’ age, passionate for photography, and with rather poor comprehension of the law, BUT incredibly useful when it comes to seeing people’s lies and contradictions.

And on the prosecution’s side, we have one Ignis Scientia! With a mysterious background, Ignis is smart, calculating, sly, dark, and he’s tagged as a genius, having started at age 19/20 and not having lost one single case up until now. And his mentor, oh, yes, the man that took him under his wing when Ignis lost his father under mysterious circumstances…

Caligo von Uldor, a FUCKING PIECE OF GARBAGE.

And he grows up next to one grey haired and slightly aggressive, super sassy Aranea, who started prosecution at age THIRTEEN because she’s a bloody genius. And cheats sometimes. Because she’s still a mercenary as a lawyer but HEY I DIDN’T MAKE THE RULES.

And let’s not forget the friendly and adorable detective Gladiolus Amicitia, a guy that may come off as tough looking at first, but is really just a noodle-obsessed pet-lover flirty adorable precious angel that just wants justice and for everyone to be happy and for those he cares about to be safe. He has absolute devotion to and admires prosecutor Ignis Scientia a lot and would do ANYTHING for him… :’3

Detective Gladio likes to hang with the dog-in-training at the police department Umbra! A NICE FLUFFEEH ADORABLE LITTLE BOY THAT WILL EAT ALL THE SAMURAI HOT DOGS IN ONE GO!

I recently beat the Ace Attorney trilogy for the first time just a few weeks ago and I’m still absolutely enamored and in love with it. I didn’t think it would be more than just funny criminal cases, didn’t know there was an entire plot and character building and development in there, and I had of course close to not a single idea I would fall for this series SO DEEP AND SO HARD.

A headcanon with my character: what headcanons don’t we have for emme/soren, but Here We Go Again: so emme having a soft vision of an older soren when she was a young kiddo, imagine a parallel of this when she has another vision of him just before she met him of the soren he will become years from now and just the chaos spiral, and we talked about her knowing the direction he’s heading in, but not fully before they became friends i think? or having a drawing of that too somewhere, one she would try to hide from herself, but not throw away, maybe hidden under her bed, and he could find this one and recognize himself and the person he’s becoming, and the subtle conversations of emme always kind of knowing where he was going and always treating him as she did despite it, or even thinking he could be the one she could finally save/change the future for, and him having not just a hint of what he’s becoming, but a real image and real proof of what he looks like beyond himself, and her having to come to terms with the idea that this isn’t it, him feeling the acceptance from her, but what we talked about too of just him testing that loyalty in Terrible ways

A headcanon with my character: u know i’m always on my bullshit with softness??? and we’re talking about theo and emme and relearning what family is supposed to be like while they’re both kinda blind together about it?? and pillowtalk of what they think family should feel like - the questions emme’s asking though about what having a big family is like and small stories of living on the farm and only the soft things and stories of emme going through magazines pretending people were her parents and really using tv references for what she thinks family is like, and where this all just develops, from the sad things to the things they idealize about families and silent trying for redefinitions of people that will leave. and then the soft, lowkey sad things of them talking about homes like in the thread now as this dream-like place before maybe they turn real and start to sound like real plans and places bc emme probably associates family too with specific places w/ all their moving around or at least being together, and now their dates in cities but they go stores too just to walk around, casual mention of things they like but know right now they can’t have in any place, before family can be full defined as people and feelings without past pain and having family be something seeming out of reach??

GSvsAA - Dual Destinies - Character Profiles

In line with the AJ one, here’s the next in the line up. Check the master post more more of the GSvsAA translation project.

It’s worth noting that while Mr. Takumi is known to have some very obvious or random inspirations for his name puns, there are times when it’s tricky to figure out because of his choice of punny origins. Meanwhile, Mr. Yamazaki & co. tend to follow suit with the obvious, but their puns are often very straightforward and easy to deduce. Sometimes, a name has multiple layers of puns and chances are good that plenty of those puns make their way into the character’s design.

I don’t think it’s lazy design, since simplifying a character’s role in a plot means more care can be taken for the actual mystery, but sometimes it leaves something about the character to be desired. Then again, there are plenty of characters from the first four games in the series that aren’t so memorable.

I’m just obsessed with this series so I know them all. Ha.

Main cast

Athena Cykes - Kidzuki Kokone (希月 心音) kidzuki means “awareness” (kinda following how Trucy is named Minuki) and the second kanji in her surname is “moon”. The kanji in her given name, when pronounced shin’on, means “heartbeat”. It can also be translated literally as “heart sound” to refer to her ability to hear people’s voices of their hearts.

Simon Blackquill - Yuugami Jin (夕神 迅) yugami means “distortion” or “twist”, referring to his epithet, “The Twisted Samurai”. The kanji form a phrase meaning “god of dusk”. jin, written as 刃, is “blade”; while the kanji in his name means “swift”. It’s analogous to Edgeworth’s name, Mitsurugi, which is the name of a noble blade of legend. Trivia: He refers to the chief in person using the term danna, a title reserved for Lords and noblemen back during the days of samurai. Since this couldn’t be replicated in English without sounding drastically out of place, it’s been tamed down to a plain “sir”. (Imo, he could very well have gone with “sire” and it’d be just the right amount of tradition and respect, but I guess it doesn’t quite sound Japanese enough.) Incidentally, Taka is Gin, which can mean “silver”, or possibly like the English word (but it’s pronounced with a hard G).

Bobby Fulbright - Ban Gouzou (番 轟三) The ban in his name may refer to a “guard”, though being written as 万 means “many”. Combined with his first name, which consists of “booming” and “three” (like in “two’s company, three’s a crowd”), you get a whole lot of bombastic in one guy. Trivia: His catchphrase is shouting “JUSTICE!!!” in English at the top of his lungs and laughing triumphantly. Imo, the localization's “In Justice We Trust!” has a certain nuance to it that really makes it pop when you realize just who he is, though.

Episode 1

Gaspen Payne - Auchi Fumitake (亜内 文武) “Auchi” is simply “ouch”. His first name is the same as his brother’s but flipped. fumi (文) is “literature”; take (武) is “martial”. I suppose both of them are warriors of words, but I really think their parents the devs just ran out of ideas.

Juniper Woods - Morizumi Shinobu (森澄 しのぶ) mori (森) is “forest” or “woods”; shinobu means “to hide”. Meanwhile, the kanji for zumi (澄) used in the verb sumasu becomes “to look prim” or “to listen carefully”. These two definitions better relate to her from Episode 3, though. Trivia: In the Japanese version of this episode, the crime scene shows in English letters: “S I N O B U”. Since Japanese is typed using romaji, し can be either shi or si. Either way, it’s still pronounced the same. If it weren’t obvious enough from the intro, this spelling would have easily given away the real killer.

Ted Tonate - Barashima Shingo (馬等島 晋吾) barasu can mean a few things: “to expose”, “to take apart”, or “to kill”. He already covers the latter two in the first case, but the first definition doesn’t quite play in until the last one. The last syllable of his first name ties into his first name to make mashingo, or “machine language”; hence the keyboard.

Candice Arme - Kaku Hozumi (賀来 ほずみ) Her full name can be written as 確保済み, meaning “in custody”. kaku may refer to “square”/”cube”; probably referring to how she’s been hit. Her surname and the first syllable of her first name make kakuho, or “guarantee”, which seems to play into her English name.

Edit: Well, I totally screwed up this entry. My bad.

Episode 2

Jinxie Tenma - Tenma Yumemi (天馬 ゆめみ) Her surname as written here refers to the “heavenly horse” Pegasus. yumemiru means “to dream”. More on Tenma below.

Damian Tenma - Tenma Deemon (天馬 出右衛門) His first name comes from “demon”. Tenma, which is also the name of the village, is written as 天魔. It refers to the yokai of the Buddhist sixth heaven in the realm of desire who haunts people and deceives them into avoiding good. According to legend, Tenma tried (and ultimately failed) to lure the young Siddhartha away from enlightenment with earthly desires. Tenma Taro from this game is based on this Tenma. In Japanese folklore, he's described to have a bird-like appearance, hence we have jangly-cackling-bird-demon. 

The Great Nine-Tails - Great Kyuubi (グレート 九尾) He’s based on the Nine-tailed fox of Japanese legend, a yokai of immense power and influence and sometimes disastrous consequences. You know the one.

Rex Kyubi - Kyuubi Ginji (九尾 銀次) His last name is the same as the Nine-Tails. The gin (銀) in his name refers to his silver hair and to the Nine-tailed fox of legend, which is often portrayed as silver. ginjiru also means “to chant” or “to recite”.

Phineas Filch - Zeniarai Kumabee (銭洗 熊兵衛) zeni, as written above, is “money”. (This is what Capcom’s fictional currency zenny is based on.) His last name is a reference to the azukiarai, “The Bean Washer”, a yokai who resembles a small boy that keeps people up at night with the sound of washing beans. Filch here claims that he’s the grandson of an infamous thief who once kept people up by the sounds of his money-washing. His first name is made of bears: kuma (熊) and “bear”; yet he’s frequently called a tanuki instead, especially for his swindling ways.

Edit: Got that the other way around.

Florent L’Belle - Biyouin Shuuichi (美葉院 秀一) biyouin is “beauty parlor” and shuuichinichi is “once a week”. The kanji in his first name come to “excellence” and “[number] one”.

Episode 3

Aristotle Means - Ichiro Shinji (一路 真二) The kanji in his name together mean “one road, two truths”. ichiro, with the same kanji, means “straight” or “directly”, and shinjiru means “to believe”.

Constance Courte - Michiba Masayo (道葉 正世) michibata is “roadside” and masa (正) is “right” or “just”, to parallel Means’ name above.

Hugh O’Conner - Shizuya Rei (静矢 零) His name is most likely picked for the convenience of the recording that’s played during trial. In Japanese, the muffled recording sounds like it’s saying “Koroshite yare!”, which is Japanese for “I’ll kill you!” Thanks to Athena’s efforts, she reveals it’s actually supposed to say “Kora! Shizuya Rei!”, or a scolding “Hey! Shizuya Rei!” The kanji of his last name are “quiet” and “arrow”. His first name can also mean “zero”.

Edit: This one I made a mistake due to mistaken memory. It’s actually kinda hard to make out the te sound in the recording, so I assumed it was excluded.

Robin Newman - Atsui Chishio (厚井 知潮) atsui is “hot”; it can also mean “hot-tempered” or “passionate”. chishio is “blood circulation”, usually referring to hot-headedness. It also doubles over as a gender-ambiguous name.

Myriam Scuttlebutt - Uwasa Atsume (宇和佐 集芽) uwasa is “rumor” and atsumeru is “to gather”; thus, her full name comes to “gather gossip”. Trivia: Producer Eshiro is a huge MGS fan; hence Myriam’s M.O. of traveling under the cover of a box.

Episode 4-5

Solomon Starbuck - Hoshinari Taiyou (星成 太陽) His name comes from the phrase “hoshi ni naritai yo”, which means “I wish to become a star”. taiyou, as written above, means “sun”.

Clay Terran - Aoi Daichi (葵 大地) aoi is the color “blue”. daichi is “ground” or “earth”; also refers to the planet itself. His relative calm and the color blue was chosen specifically to pair with Apollo’s bright and passionate red. (In fact, it may very well have been the localization’s choice to name Odoroki as Apollo that led to the development of this game’s space theme. I don’t remember if it was mentioned in an interview or not, but I’m sure it played some role.)

Yuri Cosmos - Oogawara Uchuu (大河原 有忠) His last name means “bank of the great river”, which is a reference to the Milky Way. It’s known as “The Great River” in several cultures, including Japanese. uchuu, written as 宇宙, means “space” or “universe”.

Aura Blackquill - Yuugami Kaguya (夕神 かぐや) Kaguya is a reference to a famous Japanese folktale from the 10th century, Tale of the Bamboo Cutter. The main character’s name is Kaguya-hime, or Princess Kaguya, who was one of a mysterious people living on the Moon but was sent down to Earth and raised by an old bamboo cutter. I’m not too sure if this tale inspired her English name, but when Princess Kaguya was discovered as a baby, she was described to be the size of a thumb and glowing with brilliant light. The Moon people were weird. (I can also draw the parallel to Simon’s Taka, since Aura may come from the Latin root aurum for “gold”.)

Ponco & Clonco - Ponko & Ponta (ポンコ＆ポンタ) ko and ta are common endings to boys’ and girls’ names, respectively. Aura also likes to call Clonco “Ponkotsu”, referring both to how he’s basically “Ponco #2″ and ponkotsu, “junk”.

Metis Cykes - Kidzuki Mari (希月 真理) Her first name can also be pronounced shinri, meaning “truth”. In turn, shinri, when written as 心理, means “psychology”.

DLC Episode

Sasha Buckler - Umino Shouko (羽美野 翔子) umi is “sea”, and shouko, written as 証拠, is “evidence”. Thus, her full name becomes “evidence from the sea”. The first kanji in both first and last name have to do with “feathers” and “flight”. She’s quite a flighty personality for sure.

Ora "Orla" Shipley - Arafune Elle / Ale (荒船エル / エール) Her last name is made of the kanji for “wild” and “ship”. Her name is Ale, as a shortened form of “whale”, but it doubles as the alcoholic drink too. Actually, it triples as “air”, to complement her trainer. Her supposed real name is actually her sister’s name, and it seems it was just picked to sound similar.

Jack Shipley - Arafune Ryouji (荒船 良治) ryouji as 療治 means “treatment”/“cure”, possibly referring to how he saved two precious orcas and returned them to health.

Norma DePlume - Uratori Reika (浦鳥 麗華) uratori refers to “gathering evidence” as for a news story. reika as 冷夏 becomes “cool summer”. It can even be written as 零下 to mean "sub-zero". She’s quite the contrast to the rest of the sunny crew.

Marlon Rimes - Itsuka Ikuya (伊塚 育也) itsuka means “someday”; the kanji iku (育) means “raise”, as in pets or children. In other words, he’ll “become a real trainer someday”. His name may have been chosen for its easy rhyme as well.

Rifle (ライフル) She was named for her dangerous temper, and probably as a shout-out to Mr. Takumi’s naming of Missile. Her daughter Sniper also keeps the same name.

Herman Crab - Sugomori Gaku (巣古森 学) His last name may be referring to su-komori, or “nest-babysitter”, since he keeps li’l Sniper up there. Even the first kanji in his last name is the right one for “nest”. gaku as above is “learning” or “study of” a subject.

Azura Summers - Natsukaze Suzumi (夏風 邪涼海) natsukaze means “a summer cold”, but it can also literally mean “summer wind”. It was picked probably as a stark contrast to Norma’s Japanese name. suzumi is “cooling off”, like outdoors in the breeze.

Who the heck is my muse anyway:

This sexy, justice-like husbando of mine is Apollo Justice. He’s a lawyer who works from Wright Anything Agency, but he recently opened his own office, Justice & Co. Law Offices, in Khura’in (a small kingdom that’s between in China and India.). With a loud and booming voice, he lives up to his surname by seeking, well... justice.

Apollo has a loud and booming voice once again. But there’s more to him than meets the eye! He’s sarcastic, a bit rude, and impatient, but he’s a generous guy who is very charming, adorable, smart, and selfless. His perceiving ability is what helps him in his trials by his bracelet that picks up someone’s nervous tick if they either hide anything or lie in their testimonies. 

What they’ve been up to recently:

So far, he’s the only lawyer in Khura’in, so he’s pretty busy with handling over thousands of cases he needed just to restore the legal system this summer. (I mean, I’ve played all of the AA games, but that’s his main as I play and know the story progressing in his perspective.) But after the events of AJ, he works really hard by cleaning the toilet (which is also the same thing with DD.)

Where to find them:

He’s at his office usually, but sometimes you can find him video chatting his friends at the agency or having hangouts with Nahyuta, Ahl’bi, Datz, Rayfa and his uncle, Sir Auron Sahdmadhi. Since he arrived at Khura’in and decided to stay, he hasn’t had any time-off at all!

Current plans:

Not so much since I came back from the dead. I just want Apollo to relax, take a break, grab a glass of grape juice, us adopting Rocket Raccoon and Groot as we make them our children, and enjoy the culture life in Khura’in just as I do in my everyday life. :)

Ummm well, to be honest with you, I have a verse for me and Apollo called The Sun and The Moon. It sounds like I’m crazy, but I got soooo inspired by my life since I left the Philippines, making new friends back at Anaheim, at Los Angeles, at Santa Monica, and at Disneyland, and of course, getting back to the Ace Attorney fandom again. (And thanks to my friend, Bree (Clay Terran), who they shipped me and him for arguing each other in Skype lol.)  And don’t worry, it may be me, but in a fictionalized way. :)

The Sun and The Moon I happens during the events of DD. This is how Apollo and I met, and how life is great and fine until shit happens. I’m narrating our story, by the way.

The Sun and The Moon II happens during the events of SOJ. Our story continues, but his road is just the beginning. Plus, Apollo is the one who narrated it this time.

i am also currently playing dual destinies in order to play soj and it is frankly bowling me over with how bad it is. like it's not terrible terrible but it makes me feel rly stupid? like spelling things out in a way that still doesn't rly make sense. also apollo wearing clays coat the entire game is too much for my very small heart and that combined with the fact that my friends mac makes every like zoom out to the audience sound like demonic murmuring is a something. this game is an experience i would say. maybe positive

To this games credit, I actually looked thru the footage to check for the edit and it's actually there. You can see the screen skip ever so slightly. I mean it's a little improbable that Trucy was still in the same position after twirling but that's a neat little detail. Not bad, SOJ, not bad at all.
