Race:

The most aggressive, reckless driver, but is dangerously good at it. Will cut across multiple lanes but has never even scratched a car.

Lied to everyone in his first week of college about his entire life (different lie per person) just for fun. He finally started telling the truth but nobody believes him.

Started a school poker club and promptly got kicked out of it for betting too much, and then winning it every time. (He just wanted a way to make money. The school did not like that).

STEM major. His work is impossible but he never complains about it. Also a dancer (not my hc). He complains about that a lot.

Has worked almost every retail job under the sun. Also complains about that.

Carries around cigarettes for the vibe but rarely smokes them. Just in case anyone else wants one. Has made friends with many random people this way.

Spot:

Brooklyn baby. Cannot drive. Is terrified of it but, when Race tried to teach him, he yelled at everyone and blamed other people for what was definitely his fault. Refuses to admit that.

Played football but seriously injured his knee (explanation for the cane) but doesn't talk about it much. Always comes up with a new reason for the injury that is entirely ridiculous, but since he delivers it with a straight face everybody believes him.

Absolutely no rhythm. Never goes to parties, even though he is in a fraternity (a very chill one, thank you very much). If he's ever at a party, it's because he's a sober contact, and he is the most unsympathetic person when it comes to taking care of drunk people unless it's Race.

Insists on sitting alone in the back of the lecture hall, even if he has friends in his class.

Crutchie:

Also an incredibly reckless driver but HAS gotten into accidents before. (Only twice, both times because he was racing a friend on the highway. Never serious but always stupid).

Very fidgety and usually making noises under his breath/drumming on shit. Drives everybody around him crazy.

The kind of guy to argue with a professor in a lecture, but only when he's sure he's right (which is always).

So many illegal things in his dorm: candles, toaster, air fryer, multiple animals.

Double majoring in a STEM and humanities field, always references one when in classes for the other and confuses everybody, but he sees a connection between them.

I like the idea that he goes to the gym with Albert a lot. (U wld never catch me taking away his disability so in my head he loveeees to bench and is so buff).

Albert:

(a lot of driving hcs. i wrote this in a car). gets so violently carsick. everyone thought he was saying that so he could ride shotgun; they made him ride in the back once and he made them pull over after ten minutes cause he almost hurled. safe to say he is now always shotgun and always playing the worst music.

Played too many sports, got too many concussions, and now is a crazy gym bro.

Peanut allergy. Would rather die than admit this. Has almost died because he forgets to tell servers at restaurants.

Finch:

his shoes are never tied. he never trips over them and refuses to tie them.

has a million weird, artsy minors that sound and should be fake.

floor sitter. is never in a chair.

his shoes are also never tied. he ALWAYS trips over them.

drank coffee, had a panic attack, thought it was a heart attack, and spent an hour in the ER.

Dorm recluse. His suite mates have called Mush many times just to check that he's still alive in there.

cast made too many rafebarry jokes last press tour so netflix and the writers straight up just nuked barry right off the show. the cast talking abt potential queer arc is also why every pogue is shoved into straight relationships when there is more chemistry between two characters of the same gender imo.

this is not even exclusive to obx at all, but the way with so many incredibly popular shows, they will dance around queerness in the characters. sometimes leaning into it but almost never fully committing. and like... do i think the writers could give us genuinely good and deep and interesting queer rep? no not particularly. but it'd be nice for obx to not exist in a world where every singe character is heterosexual and no one even knows what being gay is.

im abt to out myself as a stevebucky here but honestly ... i feel like if they tried to do "gay rep" it'd be like marvel pre-endgame where they inadvertently had this crazy ass storyline abt 2 characters whose love and dedication spans decades apart and actual mind erasure that soooo many people where recognizing as The foundational relationship of one of the most relevant og 6 avengers, and they adamantly refused to lean into it at all despite the blatant queer-coding of the characters. instead they had one guy who's on screen for maybe 2 minutes talk about missing his bf/husband - and then this character is never heard of again. [plus SEVERAL more stevebucky atrocities were committed but that's not the point]

like there was soooo much potential there and they fucking squandered it. which (if the obx writers ever let their characters learn the word "gay") is exactly what i think the obx writers and netflix would do. just have a gay character exist in passing and then we never hear from them again so netflix can be like "see! we had one (1) gay!!! you can't be mad now!!!!"

anyway yes im still mad abt stevebucky in the year 2024, but patterns repeat and i am nothing if not a pattern-noticer, AND i can see obx falling down this rabbit hole.

marvel is the most talented at creating the most queer coded characters ever (some of which have been confirmed queer in comic canon mind u) to send the fandom into a frenzy without confirming anything.

in all honesty nobody hates this show like the fucking pates do. it is only what it is thanks to actor chemistry and character dedication. all the relationships formed and the life we see in the show is solely because the cast is so talented, and they convey what they want (even if it means warping it somehow around a shitty script).

& on that note so many of them desire queer relationships ! hence who is to stop them from imbuing it into their character even if it’s not a confirmation. i believe all the queer chemistry we see is #real and #true because the actors see it too, and who better to know the character than them, even if the show is homophobic and refuses to confirm it in order to conform to bigoted 13 yr olds.

i kinda love seeing it this way too (in which it’s. girly implied thanks to the actors immense emotional dedication to each other), cause like u said if they did put some rep into there on purpose it wld be cringy, unrealistic, and immediately brushed over.

Oohhhh my god I'm going insane over the fifth Anniversary and the correlation it has to the Halloween lore (And coincidentally, my favourite idv character)

To simplify the lore involving Embrace, I'll do a rlly shitty summary of his plans and then explain how this correlates to the recent information in the anniversary

Basically the Embrace wrote the Tome in order to control people, in a way? He is plotting to destroy all of civilization as we know it, and he has heavy ties to Nordic mythology. There's the Nordic compass Vegvisir on the Tome with replaced runes, and the way he wrote the Tome actually cuts off people's ability to go to Nilfheim (And properly "die" in order to reborn)

He's already known to be somewhat of a prophet, or someone who can literally control the path of time, as seen in the literal description for Embrace + alongside the most recent Halloween video regarding Demi's "Last Dance" and Mike's "Tea Party", but that's not as important

Basically, Embrace has "destroyed" the pathway to Nilfheim, which is connected to Yggdrasil's roots, aka the Tree of Life/the World Tree, which is mentioned in the recent anniversary

Not to mention, the whole anniversary is very tied to Nordic mythology, hell Andrew literally speaks in a Scandinavian language within the event, so that just further proves my point, ntm most of the species can be derived from the actual worlds connected to Yggdrasil

Anyways, in the event they mention that Yggdrasil's roots were destroyed. Which is very oddly specific, bc that isn't normally part of Nordic mythos, and is entirely specific to Embrace & Halloween lore

And might I add that the game they're playing is based around real events. The author who passed away based her writings off of true experiences, which could also be why instead of "Embrace" and the "Bloodline", it's Baelzorath and wraiths that were created by Bael in order to continue functioning under a certain purpose which is so !!!! cool to me that they're incorporating Halloween lore w Anniversary. I was rambling about how I find it intriguing that they included Yggdrasil with Andrew's costume considering that's mostly specific to Embrace and the Halloween event lores, and began rambling about Embrace's lore when my friend told me that they mentioned Yggdrasil's roots were cut off so my brain has been the living definition of the !!!! ever since bc I love Victor Grantz and I love when he is a little fucked up n evil

Also I looked up Baelzorath to see if there was any ties to the Ars Goetia or other gods/deities possibly but I couldn't find anything so if anyone has found things I wld luv ur input and thoughts on this

I jus rlly rlly adore how the "writing" about Baelzorath and the wraiths perfectly mimic the Bloodline and Embrace but in a more straight forward way, and the fact that it's only rlly obvious to people who have fully dived and wasted literal hours of their life into it is so fun to me bc if by some chance they do end up tying the two together definitively in the future and give content of Embrace I am going to be SO happy
