Season 2 episode 2 convinced me that they decided to write Aegon as a rapist because otherwise the audience would be truly torned between TG and TB. Aegon grieving for his son was absolute gut-wrenching. I don't know if they anticipated how truly amazing TGC would interpret Aegon, but holy. fuck. his acting skills.
They had to make Aegon a piece of garbage because otherwise the audience would have loved him too much.

I heard from one TGC interview that the creators were aiming to make Aegon as disgusting looking as possible. Why in the world would they cast an attractive and charismatic actor such as TGC if their intent was to make his character so repulsive to the audience? 🙄
Yes, I think I even know which interview it is. He talked about how the visual image of Aegon was created - and yes, it had to be as repulsive as possible. They failed, considering that Aegon ended up being compared to a fallen angel or something lol. I suppose he was hired because of his amazing acting talent, but you just can't ruin that face card. Never. Even the burns didn't make it worse.

I noticed that Aegon's fans are divided into two teams - the first one sees him as a completely heartless, almost psychopath, the other one like in this analysis.
https://www.tumblr.com/very-straight-blog/750648583572881408/it-really-tires-me-how-some-fans-try-to-make-aegon?source=share
What do you think about it and how do you see him?
Basically I've written a few things on him already; here, here and here as well as the many web weavings i have on him hihi <3
I see him as a super nuanced character; he is deeply (and I mean deeply) broken. That's why I love him, there's so much there in terms of characterization, even with the little screentime he had.
He is so desperate to be loved but destined to be hated by everyone around him (thank you tgc for this quote, lives rent-free in my mind forever)
Rhaenyra sees him as a threat (she has this fear that her father will replace her with him, someday)
Alicent deeply loves him but is too hard on him (she genuinely thinks all her sons will die if she doesn't make him king; he needs to be strong. strong for them, strong for her.
Aemond is resentful towards him. Resentful of his weakness. He has everything Aemond ever wanted. Why isn't he happy? He would be happy and grateful (he wouldn't).
Viserys wanted Baelon. He is not Baelon.
Forced to marry his sister, he never wanted this for them (in canon,,,, I'll live in my little helaegon delulu land)
He is the kicked dog of the family. He is the only one we see being physically reprimanded. It happens time and time again, this was a deliberate choice by the writers. All of Alicent's fears and grudges and love (ugly, desperate love, but still love) towards Rhaenyra are loaded onto him -> I wished we saw them interact, they are so alike :(
What does a kicked dog do? He runs back, tail between his legs. He tries so hard but somehow it doesn't work. He feels like a failure, he runs off, avoids the pain. He doesn't want to face his reality. He drinks, he indulges in anything that will make him forget
I did not ask for this. I've done everything you've asked me to, and I try so... I try so hard, but it will never be enough for you or father.
He acts out, engages in super self-destructive behaviour -> remember when the brothel madam said that Aegon doesn't go to nice places? It's like he is punishing himself.
I'll also have to speak about his assault; kind of a baffling writing choice to introduce him as a r*pist but it is in line with his characterization. He is a prince, of course he can take anything he wants, right? It was just harmless fun, right?
This behaviour doesn't stem from cruelty (like it did with Ramsay or Joffrey) it comes from the entitlement he feels. He might be the scapegoat of the family, but he is still a spoiled prince -> I actually love this about his character too. Purely good/purely victimized characters are BORING! He is interesting, there's both evil and good in him, he is so extremely complex I want to SCREAM.
I can see him going on an arc, not repent, but change. Grow into the man who can sway the people of Dragonstone to his side, grow into the role of king. Become the type of man who would rather live in pain than dull his senses with milk of the poppy. HIS ARC WILL BE INSANE!!!!!
I know a lot of fans want him to be less whiny, less pathetic, less grey… but honestly? He is perfect the way he is in the show. I genuinely love how he is written (I would've wished to see some interaction with his kiddos and Rhaenyra, that is all lmao) and I know he will be amazing in season 2.

not sure about you but i have this headcanon of movie nerd bf x musical theatre gf. it consists of ewan being such a huge fan of reader who is like rachel zegler. like darling, she'd be casted as one of the regulars in season two. he watched her in west side and was quite impressed and inspired in both her acting and voice. what he didn't anticipate is how talented, beautiful and kind she'd be in real life. for example, her comforting emma, phia, olivia, bethany and other cast members because of some stupid HOTD fans and HBO not giving a crap about their safety.
sometimes, he'd catch her either warming up in the toilet or stairway before her performance with the orchestra of HOTD or for a scene of the show. he then became part of the audience who would be lining up outside the toilet, waiting to take a photo with her, just to listen to her.
like in chemical override, ewan was initially going around in circles in making a move with her. tgc, being the cheeky guy he is, noticed ewan's obsession and ended up singing with her for one of his videos. you could imagine him laughing at ewan bristling and brimming with jealousy. but, of course, his possessiveness didn't come out until he saw her working with a co-star in trying to nail both the acting and singing aspects of a romantic musical film. he saw how she has to be a bit handsier with her co-star in order to nail some notes and ended up becoming a bit more territorial with her. and that was when he confessed how she both inspired him as an actor and as a person.
reader, who initially had a bf, ended up gently turning him down. however, some cracks began to show in her relationship. there were moments where she couldn't sing with the orchestra because she had been crying, which wasn't great for her voice. finally, after some deliberation, the she and her bf finally broke it off. ewan, deciding that it is now or never, ended up snatching her pretty quickly because, if a guy could get her, then there was the risk of him losing her forever. hence, him begging her to get at least one date.
reader, realising how caring he was, ended up gradually lowering her guard around him and allowed herself to be loved by him for the first time since her painful breakup.
i can definitely see him being such a huge simp for her. he has seen her in west side and ends up watching many of her singing videos she uploaded on youtube. and, of course, he'd cheer the hardest for her the moment the video of her singing in romeo and juliet went viral on YT and Tiktok. he'd definitely make comments like, "oh yeah, man. she is amazing. it was love at first sight for me. she's definitely extremely talented. she's incredibly brilliant. she deserves that golden globe".
of course, reader would cheer him extremely hard the minute ewan bagged that role with stephen spielberg, posting on Instagram, saying, "i'm handing the torch to you now, babe! you'll be in great hands!"
i can see him being a bit jealous at tom blyth if she is in, "the hunger games: ballad of songbirds & snakes", as she has to kiss her co-star and seeing those edits online of him being a gentleman to her. of course, tom blyth laughed at him and reassured ewan that there is nothing between the two of them. he also commented, "relax, mate! she talks about you a lot! so, no need to worry!"
and, of course, i can see reader flirting with ewan by singing some of his favourite heavy metal songs. i can also see her flirting at ewan by singing at him while he plays his guitar. cue ewan blushing his head off at reader seducing him with her angelic voice and acting like a schoolboy when his crush finally noticed him.
Ahhh?!?!! <3
Bless u and your endless repository of ewan musings @notsurewhattocallthisblog8888 👼

⚠️HOtD season 2 ep. 4 spoilers⚠️
Your thoughts on this ep🎤?!
Adding my two cents: SUNFYRE AND AEGON WERE SO CUTE, but wtf was that fight🧍🤨 Aemond bbg wtf?? Anyhow, cuties:
TLDR: I’m not even mad anymore, I’m just disappointed (by the writing, per usual; the rest of the show is fine). I’m mostly still on the S2 boat because of the little moments like Sunny and Egg. It makes for great fanfic fuel!
Honestly, this was Criston’s best episode of the entire season so far. Getting him away from Alicent and putting him on the battlefield showcases his better qualities. Also, I love his interactions with Gwayne, it gives me life. Would totally watch a spinoff series where the two of them go on side quests.
I feel like the Harrenhal scenes aren’t super important narratively and the screentime could’ve been devoted to other characters. HOWEVER. The Harrenhal bits are just so fun to watch that I can’t really complain. TBH, it feels like Daemon is getting the best writing (in terms of character arc and narrative coherence) of all the main cast. But uh…one does wonder why he drinks a random-ass potion from a witch lady who just told him he’s gonna die at Harrenhal. (Speaking of whom, I am greatly enjoying Alys Rivers. I’m glad they haven’t made her a femme fatale. She’s just weird. Joff would love her.)
Opinion: they got rid of Kermit Tully and made Oscar the heir because the show wants to minimize Muppet memes. Very sad. 😔
If you’re following my blog, then you know I’m an Aegon fan, so I acknowledge I’m probably biased. But all of the Greens are just shitting on Aegon this episode, holy cow. I totally understand Aemond being snotty and excluding Aegon from schemes; even in the most generous interpretation of their brotherly relationship, they’re often at odds and Aemond looks down on Aegon. But Cole is the Hand of the King, not the Hand of Aemond. Even if Cole is on the front lines, he should be including Aegon.
Alicent has just completely lost the sympathetic traits she possessed in S1. I’ve never thought of her as an especially good mother, but she did love her children—definitely Aemond and Helaena, and there were the “do you love me” and standing between Aegon and the dragon scenes. She also seems to have forgotten that she was one of the people yelling at Aegon to step up and take the crown, and now she wants to hit the reverse button. 🙄 S2 Alicent is not the same character as S1 Alicent, and even S1 Alicent varied from episode to episode. For fic purposes, I’m just completely ignoring what the show writers are doing with her because it makes no sense.
I think TGC would’ve killed a scene where he gets to speak more fluent High Valyrian, but it makes sense that Aegon isn’t good at speaking it. Aegon has never been the scholarly sort, and High Valyrian (if you’ve been trying it on duolingo like me) is not an intuitive language for English-only speakers. I do think Aegon should’ve learned more dragon commands at least, but apparently Sunfyre decided to be the world’s first bilingual dragon and learn common tongue for Aegon’s sake. :3 At this point I’m convinced that Sunfyre is the only living creature who actually unconditionally loves Aegon. No wonder Aegon is messed up.
Back in Driftmark: we finally get confirmation of who the Hull boys are! Not explicitly, but it’s hard to deny that they’re Corlys’s kids like in the book. I kinda wish we got more scenes with Rhaenys talking about/interacting with them though. She seems to have had complicated feelings about the boys.
Visually, the battle was amazing to watch. Some of the best shots I’ve seen during the entire show. But, as I often complain about, the characters’ actions don’t make sense. If you’ve been on social media, then you’re probably aware that Aemond attacking Aegon has been very controversial, and for good reason. I cannot comprehend the Aemond stans (I’m an Aemond fan, but I’m very aware that he’s a flawed character who can act stupidly sometimes) who refuse to acknowledge that this was NOT a good move. Vhagar is a formidable dragon but she can’t win a 1 v 4 against Caraxes, Syrax, Vermax, and Moondancer (and those aren’t even all the dragons the Blacks will eventually have). Vhagar could take out some of the other dragons, but she’s definitely dying in a battle like that. So no, this was not a smart or strategic action on Aemond’s part, at all.
It could be explained as an action taken in the heat of the moment, with Aemond overcome by adrenaline and his anger toward Aegon. But we just saw Aemond two episodes ago being sad about killing Luke, against whom he held a grudge for years because of his eye. Aegon is his brother, and their interactions in S1E8 indicated that even if they’re not besties, they do operate on the same wavelength. Aegon was an idiot for making fun of Aemond in S2E3, but that should not have pushed Aemond over the edge to attempted fratricide/regicide.
At least Cole and Sunfyre care about Aegon, since clearly nobody else does. 🥲 *author shoves a Jacaera toward Aegon*

spoilers for ep6 of hotd s2
i'm completely confused by the writing at this point, but i do like that we're getting more team green representation because they were too cartoonishly evil and not cool last season. i would've wanted corlys to have an outburst over rhaenys' death last episode, rather than simply going to driftmark for baela to convince him. rhaenyra making him hand of the king would have had more importance then, i think. jace is sitting the council at last lol. knowing what will happen to steffon darklyn, i feel kinda bad for him. it was a bit of a stupid decision, especially considering bastards are perhaps a better bet than a kingsguard (a very needed one, at that) whose relation to house targaryen is pretty distant. but i do admire than he genuinely wanted to help his queen and thus kinda sacrificed himself. okay, my wish for daemon to hallucinate viserys has come to pass at last. though viserys says the same stuff as in season 1, but it's much more...soft. i actually prefer this one to the scene in s1. viserys is more vulnerable and it's always a pleasure to see paddy considine. daemon's storyline is a bit slow but i'm glad to see him being driven to the edge of madness. matt smith is a phenomenal actor, so he carries the sometimes boring writing. simon strong is being an icon as always. i love caraxes so the screen time is much appreciated. i just know alys giggles to herself when daemon has his luigi's mansion moments. i do love that she makes him face his faults when he's trying to run. daemon has always wanted the crown, but it's so clear to see that he's not fit for it. he's right that rhaenyra never wanted it, but she rose up to the occasion. she's being a leader. daemon struggles to raise men by threat of fire. alys and mysaria are the most interesting characters to me this season. by saying that in three days the winds will shift, i think alys meant that grover tully will die and oscar will take his place and therefore secure an army for rhaenyra. i am still sad to lose kermit tully. i understand the muppets association but it's legit a cool name 😂. the scene where ser steffon tries to bond with seasmoke was very interesting. it's pretty neat to get more insight into the dragonbonding process. anyways, rip steffon darklyn. you did your best. i do like sylvi (the brothel madam) and dyana, so i'm curious to see what's next for them, though i think sylvi may not appear again. anyways, the smallfolk have my heart. i like that after suffering yet another loss, rhaenyra feels utterly frustrated and desperate. i love love and love rhaenyra and mysaria. i kind of don't like the "the people will be hungry and will need someone to blame", because yes, the keep has more than enough food for themselves, but it was rhaenyra who initiated the blockade. the blame could easily shift to her. with all the dismissing and whatnot, i don't think otto even managed to reach oldtown before he's being summoned back lol. aegon didn't really listen to his council, but atleast he tried, while aemond's being outright mean to his council. tom glynn carney is amazing. no matter what aegon did, i don't think he deserves to be lowkey tortured by aemond. tgc is seriously too charismatic and too good to make me hate aegon. i truly wonder if they'll make rhaena tame sheepstealer. i love my sweet girl sm. the baby dragons are so cute. i'm sorry jeyne arryn is so beautiful i can't focus whenever she's on-screen. i'm lowkey stressed that the battle of the gullet is coming. i love the rather subtle way they're using to show that addam and alyn are bastards. i like alyn in the show. i love that even rhaenyra is sick of daemon. he truly has to get his act together and recognize that it is rhaenyra's claim he should uphold. how did the fisher guy not see the boat before it was right there at the beach? oh well. food for the smallfolk yay. lyman beesbury haunts the narrative. i write as i watch the episode and i'm already at the limit and the episode is not even over 💀

top 5 musical theatre performers?... and you can't choose lin
i love this question so much! & i'm so happy you said no lin because it's a great opportunity for me to talk about the others! this will be probably chaotic (surprise, surprise) & i will drop clips to prove my point:
PHILLIPA SOO
i don't think any words could describe how i feel about her... the most incredible voice i've ever heard. i would literally die for her, i'm being serious right now. she is one of the reasons i think the off broadway cast album of the great comet is better than the obc one (unpopular opinion maybe but oh well she is MY natasha). i would never be tired of listening to her, she is so precious to me istg. one of my favourite videos is, of course, phillipa singing no one else from tgc (ha! i know you were expecting hamilton! no way, you are getting this one instead):
youtube
JORDAN FISHER
i know a lot of people wouldn't agree with me, but i actually think he is incredibly talented. he has a great voice & damn, he can act! i kinda lost my mind when i saw his first pictures as orpheus in hadestown, i also recommend to watch all the clips with him (especially wait for me, my personal favourite), but what i really want to show you is this video of jordan singing waving through a window from dear evan hansen (the fact that he is not only singing the song but also acting here, i couldn't love him any more, he also has the most adorable smile but it's not that important or is it?):
youtube
JOSH GROBAN
his voice... for the love of god... i am kinda crazy about him. amazing as sweeney todd, yes, true, but most of you probably know already i am absolutely fucking insane about pierre bezukhov the biggest fucking loser oh god i love him so much (a little disclaimer: i usually listen to the off broadway version of tgc, yes, but i do have playlists with all pierre's song so josh groban is there as well), so it's probably not surprising that i am giving you this today (dust and ashes is, in my opinion, one of the best musical songs ever written):
youtube
EVA NOBLEZADA
ngl, i fell in love with her immediately while listening to hadestown for the first time. she is just aaaaaamazing, that girl can sing & definitely can act. also, she is so incredibly beautiful i can't even (i may have a little crush on her). i am always getting super emotional when i watch her, so i want you all to feel the same, watch this video of her & reeve carney singing all i've ever known:
youtube
AMBER GRAY
dear fucking god what a voice. first of all, she is definitely my favourite persephone, i mean come on. i am also fucking obsessed with the song charming from tgc which is not surprising to anyone probably. i also found an audio of her singing starchild from ghost quartet & my head exploded (i don't know where it is now but believe me, it exists... somewhere). but this is what you get today:
youtube
#those are the ones i am always going crazy about#sorry for being obsessed with the great comet#i also have one more thought & i don't know exactly where to put it so i'm gonna use this space to say#that in my head pierre bezukhov looks like josh groban but has the voice of dave malloy#which probably doesn't make any sense but it is what it is#wow i love musicals so much#i loved this question!#thank you anon#anon#i saved every letter you wrote me*

Idk if I'm biased or what but when people talk about tgc's super amazing acting skills I'm always like but where are them? sorry I don't see it. Matt Smith on the other hand even when if im not his fan I can see that he makes the character. With Emma I'm confused. Olivia is convincing. just my thoughts.
I think TGC’s performance is good but Aegon is one role in a large cast and an antagonistic/comic relief one at that so it just doesn’t seem surprising that if someone were to be nominated from HOTD it’d be the leads
Agreed on Matt, I’d barely seen him in anything before this and his voice took me aback at first lol but he quickly won me over
Emma has some line readings I really like but they can get a bit…theater to me sometimes (see: really exaggerated movements)
Agreed on Olivia, I saw and loved her in Thoroughbreds first and she’s totally different but still good in this. She has the range

As a TGC fan, we were served! I know you don’t vibe with Aegon, but I hope you appreciate Tom’s acting in the show! I’ve seen some of his other stuff and he’s really good! AND we support the same ⚽️ club!
-🪴
I think Tom’s performance as Aegon is amazing, and as a person his personality and sense of humour are very similar to mine. I think that is maybe why he doesn’t “click” for me in the same way that Ewan does, because I see too much of myself in him.

the way twitter stans don't get matt smith is playing up the blacks vs greens conflict like most of the actors have been in the recent interviews, like ofc as the person who plays daemon he's gonna say he doesn't like alicent lmao
(also i find it interesting how all of the crazy team green twitter stans had no problem when tgc called jace a dweeb isn't that hate too🤔)
no YEAH and like, obvious caveat it isn't the whole fandom but twitter does incentivise the absolute craziest people to get popular which means some of thee most annoying people to have ever existed in this world are popular in the greater hotd fandom, and what's been consistently frustrating is how many people who are either rhaenicent/girls focused or tg stans who just refuse to acknowledge the absolutely cracked behavior coming from their side. like, all this focus on olivia, basically with the implication that this is an isolated thing like with the hate lena got for playing cersei, but it's not because imo the internet (or at least twitter) has gotten infinitely worse since got finished, so it's not just olivia getting this insane behavior, it's the bulk of the cast! and it's coming from everyone, from the angry book fans, the targ nation delulus, the femslash enjoyers, tb, tg, every subfandom has had some insane and over the line behavior directed towards the cast that loves to default to either "well you're ugly and i hope you die" or just straight up bigotry.
like the amount of people (largely the "toxic yuri enjoyers" or the tb stans, i can whack the people i hang out with!!) going after tom for saying standard actor stuff like "I love my character" or "i feel bad for my character" and saying he's a rape apologist is crazy. people didn't even go after jason momoa for that real dumbshit "i get to rape beautiful women" comment this hard! is he supposed to not try to understand the character he's playing?? are people who play villains or antagonists just never allowed to feel sympathy for their characters? that's crazy, that's insane, but especially in a series where a) there are SO MANY villain protagonists and b) this series is known for exploring why bad people turn into bad people and why good people do bad things and what even a "bad person" or a "good person" looks like, so why are we mad that the cast plays into this??
and YEAH tbh like you say, i think there's a lot of in this case tg stans specifically who get so fucking angry whenever Matt Smith plays along with the "all must choose" angle but it's like - yeah of course he does, he's not the only one doing this, he clearly thinks it's fun to joke about how he's gonna decimate ewan mitchell, and i think a lot of his bts stuff throughout his career has gone from the two extremes of "having something amazing to say" and "being completely and totally unserious" because this is a job he does, and he likes to get goofy with it. it's fine!!! but no, apparently, it's such a crime to simply exist and like that he's playing this fun character with a goofy wig and a cool aesthetic that we've gotta dogpile every post about him calling him ugly!! but when The People We Hate In Fandom do something vile like call olivia a cunt to her face, that's the true evil! and when People We Are Friends With start saying really weird shit about fabien being ~violent~ we just look the other way even tho that feels just a lil racist!!!
it's more frustrating because you can't even say this is a fandom that skews young like a shitty teen show or a cartoon - this is a grown up show for adults, this is prestige tv, this is a show and a series you actually think "maybe i should wait a few years before i let my middle schooler dig into that one" but the fandom is SO INSANE. WE ARE ALL ADULTS WHY ARE WE ACTING SO JOBLESS. GO PAY YOUR CHILD SUPPORT. DO SOME YOGA SO YOUR BACK DOESN'T SEIZE UP BEFORE 40. TOUCH GRASS!!
#I'M SORRY FOR RANTING. BUT THIS IS SUCH JOBLESS BEHAVIOR.#i know no one who follows ME partakes in this shit lol like i know it's not The Whole Fandom.#but it's enough that it's like alright. you have too much free time on your hands go apply for unemployment. go volunteer at a library.#do SOMETHING besides angrily quote dunk on hbo's every tweet while misgendering emma for funsies.#asks#anons

ok silly thought, but what are your favorite things of Tom Glynn Carney and Ewan Mitchell?
no I love this! not silly at all nonnie ☺️
for Ewan - it was just his face, it’s so different!!! like I’ve never seen anyone with such a distinguishable face & I just love how he looks like he’s upto no good 🤭 he’s acting is amazing, watching him on screen for the first time, it made me almost nervous in a way, the chokehold he had on me like immediately!! and then finding out, he’s actually more of a reserved guy (from the interview, co workers), likes to keep to himself I can relate to that he try much. especially how he doesn’t necessarily open up to people to easily. I just really enjoy the mystery around the man, even tho I want more than just crumbs. I find that charming, like he is in control of who he wants to open up to, when he wants to open up and with who, I like that it gives him this leg up, almost like an power grab, cause look at us all begging him for more!!!
for TGC - mi amore!!!! the man is so handsome to look at, it’s like at the same time I can’t get enough of his face but I can’t look for too long because he makes me blush and giddy 😫🥰 I didn’t actually get hooked to Aegon as fast as I did with Aemond (for obvious reasons) but that coronation/carriage scene did it, rewatching it… he’s so versatile there’s literally nothing he can’t do!!!! I have a profound amount of respect for that. I find him charismatic which I love & he seems very outgoing which is motivating cause I can struggle with that. He just seems like such a loyal, hearty guy, I love my baby, but at the same time he also oozes this dominance (don’t know how to explain it, but he plays dark characters so well, there has to be something there)…
the boys both have this charisma, each to their own style (Ewan with more of a mysterious approach & Tom with how well he speaks & just his confidence, like he’s not too overpowering or over the top cocky). I thrive off it both!!!
sorry for the spill nonnie, you got me going 🥺

In light of that wonderful expo, which gave us so much TGC content, can I just say that Aegon's "I've done everything you ask me to... and I try so... I try so hard, but it will never be enough" line would've hit harder (TGC's acting was so fucking good tho) if hotd would bother to show us scenes (just flashbacks, literally anything) of a young Aegon doing anything, from his studies to his training and showing off his talents/knowledge by trying to interact with Viserys and doing anything to get his attention but seeing/realizing that Viserys was never interested in him no matter what which would kick off his spiral to alcoholism and the frequent ventures to flea bottom (and finally see his book traits of being a sullen boy) and eventually becoming lazy. Instead, they included some dumb af scenes that serve no purpose other than shock factor or trying so hard to be got. They were so allergic to giving/having sympathetic scenes for the greens that some even hated the idea of Aemond being bullied instead of being the bully. Like, I laughed at the praise the show gets when it clearly suffers from so much "telling everything to the audience" instead of letting the audience come to a conclusion by describing the events and actions. BUT, then again, seeing as most of the reaction to Alicent being maritally raped, Aemond being bullied, Aemond claiming Vhagar (and literally losing an eye), and Alicent snapping in Driftmark was clearly so different, never mind lmao. But, that's just my opinion lmao. Sorry for the rant, I've been thinking about it lately but do get ready, just in case some get pissed at this lmao.
Feel you! I even had a big post on this topic - here. I won't repeat myself, but yes - there's a huge problem in the series with describing things instead of showing them. If we talk about Aegon - literally everything we know about him - we know from his words or the words of other people, and this is very annoying, especially considering the difference between what others say about him and how we see Aegon on the screen. Tom plays a depressed alcoholic with mommy issues, who makes vulgar jokes and has some dildos on the bedside table. This is his maximum. We're even shown his disgust at the sight of cruelty - I wrote about it here. However, other characters describe him as a rapist prone to sadism. What? Who wrote this script? I think about it quite often and I get terribly angry every time. Aegon was an amazing character in the book - interesting, dramatic, but in the series all the positive qualities were taken away from him, even in those scenes that we see - like the fact that he wants to escape, while in the book he agreed to accept the crown to protect his family. It's all incredibly frustrating.

I love your Olivia fancast for Octavia!! A show with her portraying Octavia would be amazing
Half of it comes from the fact that TGC would have made a fantastic Octavian if 1) Domina didn't suck ass and 2) Domina hadn't also stuck that mop on his head when Octavian was historically also a blond pretty boy, and given that he and Olivia look similar and have good acting chemistry, it seems logical. Plus, Olivia is an excellent actress with a lot of range, and I think more things need to give Octavia her depth. I mean, not only was she present for a time of major historical upheaval, she was also intimately involved with a lot of the major players. And imagine being Octavia, your little brother becomes the most powerful person in the world through a series of cold, ruthless, bloodthirsty calculations starting at the big age of eighteen, born out of feelings you can't understand because the distant relation who was murdered wasn't close to you but was very close to him. There's so much emotion to get into with the sibling relationship specifically, and again Olivia is great so she could give it.
#personal#answered#anonymous#i mean hell there was literal familial rejection#the second octavian found out about the will he rejected being an octavii and went hard on being one of the julii#your brother is your brother and you love him and he loves you but he's also publicly not a member of your family#even tho he still is family#and again literally what does it feel like#as an older sister to watch your younger brother become head of the household#and do really dangerous and terrible things to keep himself safe and to keep YOU and your family safe#and again olivia and tom look similar so it's fun to play with

Who do you think more complex book!Aegon or his show version and why?
Definitely book Aegon, Nonnie.
The main reason is because we don’t know anything about him, we can only speculate. So we are in the guessing game when it comes to him, how I feel about helaegon as well.
In the show, TGC is the only one that cares about Aegon and it’s simply heartbreaking. If there weren’t those abhorrent scenes, I think it would’ve been a tie. Although we haven’t seen that much of him yet.
Book!Aegon is just so layered and yet not enough of him, it’s amazing. He’s serious, he starts to act like a King as soon as he accepts it…I mean look at this:
There’s something admirable about this, his story arc is the best one in the books as well, we’ll see what the show does.
