"Sir... we have a situation."
Based on The Grim Dark Archives by @lets-try-some-writing !!
I know that Rafael and the other kids aren't present (yet?) in this series, but there's something about a horrifying alien robot being "friends" with a human that just made me go nuts creatively. :3

So I am infamous now for the time I pointed out Op and Meg's eyes both are tears of sadness and of rage.
But @seraphim-seeker commented on my Megatron one with this in the tags
Tumblr media
So yeah, what about Ratchet?
Tumblr media
Ratchet has been described, in the Art of Prime to have soft eyes
Tumblr media
Which, when looking at Ratchet, does in fact come across in his design but I wanna point out one very vital factor in his eyes.
Tumblr media
These almost teardrop like additions to them.
Tumblr media
And, knowing how rare to see them it is , believe me, I had to go through a lot of clips to find shots where it showed these tears I once again cannot help but be reminded of tears, of a medic in mourning.
Mourning what? The loss of his world, of his allies, his loved ones, his patients.
And it is so rare to see these tears, just as rare as it is to see Ratchet be vulnerable, because he puts on the armor and shields that hide his emotions from others.
With the kids for example, he immediately rejects the idea, but grows so close to Raf
one of my favorite gifs that shows how gentle and soft Ratchet once was is this
Tumblr media
How he is quick to use both hands to catch Raf, and makes sure he has a hold of him with both, before making sure to shift to one carefully.
And keeping his eyes ON Raf, all times as he carries him.
Tumblr media
And as always I mention RID15 for the rare good thing it did in design
It showed how tired he is. He was a war medic, making sure everyone made it back in one piece and made it out alive, and RID15 shows it in a way that makes it also feel so tragic
Ratchet bears the tears, ever eternal, of a doctor who couldn't save many, but saved those that mattered most.
Grumpy he may be, but there is a gentleness to him, no matter what he says to all.

Transformers: Prime headcanon
Spoilers ahead!
I headcanon that after that one episode where he almost dies from Energon poisoning, Raf is almost always exhausted. He also has a ton of health issues and an irregular heartbeat.
I never liked how he was just fine after getting poisoned and nearly dying. I feel like he would have some sort of problem after that, especially with how young he is.

I have this tfp au that would affect Miko, Jack, n Raf relationship with the autobots and I’ve been keepin it hidden away with many redraws of reference sheets and changed storyline plots and I wanna let y’all in on it.
So basically, I wanted this to take place after Megatron renounces the Decepticon ways and leaves BUT when they were all fighting Unicron, Unicron unleashed some sort of virus that affected the whole planet to try and gain some control (he failed and was put away forever). Think of it as some kind of “If I go down, you’re all coming down with me.”
Now this virus is BAD because not only was it immediate and caused the entire Earth to literally have a global earthquake BUT it killed about 90% of the human population, revived 9% of the dead bodies and turned them into horrifying, gigantic zombified powerful monsters, and only about 60,000,000 humans are left alive. This also changed the geography of the world and the biology. So imagine if the world was Pangea again, plants that went extinct are now back in fashion!!! And yeah, whales can fly now!! Everything of earth has CHANGED.
Also!!!!!!!! Humans that survived the wave of Dark Energon are Cybertronian sized now!!! Along with some buildings here and there, cars too. Woah, some clothes got bigger too. how convenient
I won’t give away too much yet but I do want to leave some crumbs,,,,, so here are some things u should know
Miko, Jack, and Raf are older in this AU as times passed so Miko would be 22, Jack is 23, and Raf is 18. Though now they aren’t called that anymore due to trauma 😍 and *cough cough* TARN-
Their new names:
Jack-> Jaeger
Miko-> Mynx
Raf-> Riot
Also, yes, u saw that right. Tarn is going to be in this AU and he will be the one who will be a father figure to these poor kids as they have lost everything. And I mean, everything.
But the autobots would never allow that!!
Ur so right they wouldn’t but they accidentally got kept into stasis for years in the Ark while they were trying to escap-
I’ve said too much, I fear.
Anyways, Miko, Jack, and Raf are totally different but they still miss their wards and wish things were different but hatred, resentment, and trauma clings onto their souls like tar. Will they ever get through it?
Idk, depends if I want the angst or not
If u have any questions or thoughts, pls lemme know I’m dying to tell someone about this AU I’ve had stuck in my head for like 2 years

Okay, so I’ve been thinking of Smokescreen from TFP a lot, and I’ve decided to share some thoughts/head-canons involving him
Tumblr media
First of all, we tend to ignore the fact that Smokescreen is a scarily adept thief. Just think about it: he’s always snitching the Phase Shifter until they allow him to keep it, and he manages to sneak away from the others to the battlefield or elsewhere with no one the wiser. So realistically speaking, Smokescreen is no stranger to sleight of hand tricks and stealth, meaning he likely stole - at least a little - before he was inducted into the Elite Guard, probably in order to survive.
And another thing about Smokescreen that always stuck out to me was how, despite his excitement for joining Team Prime and his insistence on “it being destiny/[he’s] destined to be a great warrior”, every time something went wrong, he blamed himself. He never shirked it onto someone else, or accused them of being at fault (come to think of it, he never pointed the finger at a teammate for anything). Instead, Smokescreen kicked himself for the failure and held himself to an unnecessary degree of accountability. It’s almost like he’s expecting too much from himself, so that, to me, says that Smokescreen thinks poorly of himself most of the time. Additionally, this leads me to think that he’s desperate for approval and acceptance from people, especially Team Prime and Optimus in particular. And I personally believe that Smokescreen’s ego early on is what he holds onto in order to convince himself that he is actually a worthy ‘Bot in his own right and not worthless or a burden.
So that’s left me to a couple of conclusions and theories: One, Smokescreen initially grew up in a darker part of Cybertron (clearly unaffected by the war); two, he was likely used by other Cybertronians for infiltration/recon/courier missions, and three he was often told what his worth was by others, half being condescending and the other half being sarcastic, with the occasional genuine praise from others, specifically his guardians.
And now we come to the real head-canon aspect of this: Smokescreen’s mysterious past (note, this is all from my own musings).
Tumblr media
So, I imagine Smokescreen was a kid who grew up in a little known place of Cybertron called the Mithril Sea. Like the Sea of Rust, it was primarily rust and heat, leaving only the strong to survive. An area largely ignored by most for their poor living conditions, the denizens of the Mithril Sea have to make frequent trade and excursions through the various run-down cities and markets to make a living. Taken in by the Axelerators merchant group, Smokescreen was the youngest and fastest of the group. Seeing the advantage of his youthful exuberance, the leader of the Axelerators often sent him to spy and steal from their rivals within the arid Mithril Sea. Despite the lack of empathy by most of the Axelerators, Smokescreen enjoyed the thrill of racing through the streets, jumping across the rooftops, and occasional chases by enemies. He would also get a kick out of pranking some of the better off and vain ‘Bots in the vicinity, or taunting his pursuers when they were unable to follow him into a particularly small passageway.
But this still left him restless. The Axelerators were always just using him for their next deal, for the next undermining of their opponents. It was a thankless and condescending life, but Smokescreen refused to believe that his life would always be so dull. Somehow, he always had an innate sense that he would leave the Mithril Sea and become a warrior - an idea that grew as he learned more about the ongoing Autobot-Decepticon War. He loved hearing the tales that would filter down into the market streets about the great battles, and the glorious cause of freedom for all that the new Prime, Optimus, spoke of. Hearing these stories drove Smokescreen to the knowledge that he was meant to be a soldier in the Autobot army, and he vowed to join their ranks after the passing of his guardian in the Axelerators.
Taking another mission on behalf of the Axelerators, Smokescreen instead stole a week’s worth of energon cubes and left the Mithril Sea. Arriving in Pellechrome, he bought more energon and supplies before searching for the nearest Autobot recruitment center. After pestering and waiting outside for a solid cycle, the sergeant accepted him into the Autobots and had him inducted into the Elite Guard for training. Overjoyed, Smokescreen joined the last unit of young Autobots to be trained under Rocket Plume, herself a deadly stealth agent. Smokescreen soon found that his background made him stand out to the more insecure ‘Bots, who would use him as a scapegoat and target for their actions. This naturally resulted in fights, but to the surprise of many, Smokescreen always came out on top, something that caught the eye of Rocket Plume. Taking him under her wing, Smokescreen’s skills at evasion, stealth, and battle truly flourished, although he was still considered an outcast by his fellow cadets. For that, as well as Rocket Plume’s teaching of changing one’s voice for covert operations, Smokescreen learned to suppress his natural Mithrilic accent to the point that no one who met him for the first time suspected his heritage.
When the war began to escalate, Smokescreen and his fellow cadets were given a hasty and unceremonious graduation, something that would forever disappoint him. With Rocket Plume pulled back onto the front lines, Smokescreen and the other graduates were sent to Iacon to bolster its defenses. Although pleading for a role on the Iacon front, Smokescreen was disheartened to learn that he would be given the position of security detail to Alpha Trion. Initially resenting this task, Smokescreen gradually built a rapport with Alpha Trion, whose grandfatherly nature and care earned the respect and loyalty of the young ‘Bot - especially when he was encouraged to speak with his natural accent. Seeing potential in the young Mithrilic and learning more of future events through the Covenant of Primus, Alpha Trion, under the pretense of old age, regaled Smokescreen with tales of Cybertron before the war, as well as those of Optimus and his past as Orion Pax.
To his great relief - and a certain amount of pride - Smokescreen was an eager learner, absorbing every fact related to Optimus and the battle techniques that Alpha Trion passed on to him. Eventually, the time came for Iacon’s fall, and Smokescreen eagerly waited near the doors to fully embrace and live up to the Autobot cause. Then, of course, Alpha Trion knocked him out and entrusted him with one of the Omega Keys, knowing that he would escape to Earth and help bring the Keys to Optimus.
Personally, I would have given Smokescreen a new human partner, and I’d reuse Tripp Summers from the 2018 Bumblebee film. Their bond would mostly focus on helping Smokescreen relax and realize his worth isn’t in his actions or what he can or can’t do for the team, but in his desire to do good and promote an end to the war. On Tripp’s side of things, Smokescreen would probably help him learn autonomy (I swear, that pun wasn’t intended) and to stop appeasing his haughty peers, whom he tries to please on behalf of his family.
And there we have it - my expanded history for Smokescreen. My boy deserved more attention and care in TFP, although what we got was good, too. To just further elaborate, the names of unknown locations and ‘Bots - Alpha Trion and Iacon notwithstanding, of course - I searched the Teletraan 1 Wiki for these places and expanded on them. So, if you’re curious, you can check them out there.
Additionally, I picture the Mithril Sea as stylized after ancient Persia, with the accent being Persian. The biggest reason for this is because first of all, I’m deeply interested in ancient Persia, the second being that Nolan North had previously voiced the Prince of Persia in the 2008 game. He’d wanted to do that accent for the character, but for some incomprehensible reason, the studio wanted his “Nate Drake” voice for the character.
Yeah, I don’t get that either. But at least this way, not only does Smokescreen have a larger and more colorful history, Mr. North would have the chance to use that accent whenever Smokescreen is agitated, excited, or frustrated by something. Who knows, maybe he’ll come across this and do that accent after all. I know I would certainly love to hear him use it!
See you around, folks!

Bounus points if it really isn’t intentional the first few times.
Like the cons captured Raf somehow a f he’s really panicking. After all last times he was on the nemesis he and his friends nearly died and pat time he saw Megatron he did die (his heart stopped temporarily hc)
So this objectively young kid starts to cry a bit before it turning into full on wails because his damn has he been through so a lot for a kid in the lay few years and he is just so tired.
As he starts to cry the vehicons guarding him start freaking out because of their sparkling protocols. Some are trying to comfort the small squishy others are cowering in fear because why does one of the spawns of unicron sound just like a sparkling?!? And other rush to their superiors.
Chaos ensues, Megatron tries to get a handle on things before soundwave kicks him out after Raf’s crying gets 10x worse until they somehow calm him down or beg the autobots for help
@gelu-the-babosa-multiversal
I got the image of the Jack, Miko and Rafael learning to imitate Distressed/terrified Sparkling cries and using them against the decepticons. It’s a very efficient defense mechanism. Every cybertronian who heard them is freaking out because oh primus how is the squishy thing making that noise and I gotta protect it at all costs. The sheer chaos that would ensue as the ‘protect/rescue the sparkling’ programming kicks in full force.
——
The vehicons are clustered at the other end of the room panicking. They don’t know what to do. The human sparklings are looking right at them and making distress noises. The guilt is killing them.
Knockout going “is the car form less alarming?! If I turn into a car will you stop seeing me as the threat?!”
Breakdown is having a breakdown.
Starscream pinned to the wall on the other side of the room having an internal crisis. He doesn’t like this. Make it stop.
Soundwave makes no noise but you can FEEL the sheer distress radiating off of him.
Megatron is frozen. No thoughts, head empty. He’s not moving at all. He doesn’t know how to handle this.
——
The autobots have mixed feelings about this. They’re glad the kids have a way of defending themselves but please don’t do it near them. They’re stressed out enough as it is.
(This might sound kinda dumb but I thought it was kinda funny. Very tired while writing this)
Wait no this is actually brilliant.
The Decepticons never anticipated their long buried parental nature to be used against them. No one did. But they day the human children turned up on the battlefield looking far too confident, every Bot and Con present had the all encompassing feeling that something was terribly wrong. Their suspicions were quickly confirmed when, before the Decepticons could do much of anything to get the relics they were after, Rafael began to wail.
Normally, human screams meant nothing. But there was a certain pitch that sounded so close to a cry of distress from a sparkling that, to warriors who had not heard a sparkling in millennia, it was enough to send them running to help. In this case, the issue was only compounded as the children scattered like mice and started making the same noises. The Decepticons could hardly focus on the Autobots booking it to the relics as they frantically tried to locate the fictitious sparklings calling for aid.
The Vehicons managed to get to Jack, but he just kept looking up at them defiantly. Every time one of the dozen or so Vehicons on the field tried to grab him, blast him, or otherwise hurt him, Jack would chirp like a sparkling and send all of them scurrying back. It wasn't cute to the Vehicons. Having never seen actual sparklings but still having the coding needed to adore them, they looked at Jack and saw a weird frame-walker. They weren't sure what to do about it except try to haul themselves away while also keeping a vague circle around the human male.
Miko on the other hand made it a point to chase after Megatron and Soundwave, screeching like a sparkling about to be shredded. Neither stopped for her, but Megatron completely lost his train of thought every time that screech rang out. He could have been aiming at Optimus with a perfect head shot and he would be unable to fire as Miko's distressed sounds rang out in his audials. He KNEW she wasn't a sparking. His coding wasn't even that strong. But by Primus, hearing her screech was the same as watching a civilian get run over by a bus, repeatedly. Focus was impossible.
Soundwave wasn't much better. He didn't react outwardly, but the slowing of his steps and the way he tried to sidestep Miko gave away his distress. He avoided her like the plague, trying to refocus but being unable to really get far as Miko screamed like a demon. It was a fight against the Unmaker himself to keep Soundwave from bolting over to collect the sparkling who sounded so very upset.
Rafael, for his part, followed Miko's lead and harassed the other three members of High Command most often found out on the field. Breakdown ran screaming the moment Rafael started chirping at him. This was both out of fear of the frame-walker and to escape the inevitable overreaction of his coding. He may or may not have attempted parkour once or twice to get as far away from the smallest of the humans as possible.
Knockout tried to ignore Rafael when the kid chirped up at him, he really really did. But how does one ignore the Cybertronian equivalent of a soaking wet kitten meowing up at you? Simply put: you don't. Knockout gave in and quickly dropped down to try and soothe the non-existent sparkling every. single. time. Rafael pulled his noise trickery. He never fails to panic and attempt to flash colorful things at Rafael to get him to stop. Every Decepticon has since been endlessly disappointed in him.
Starscream, being terrified of things that really shouldn't be there, took the skies the instant the trio began screeching. Nope. Not today Unicron. He'll get the mission done or get the heck out of dodge to avoid coding coming online. He doesn't need empty nest syndrome on top of a crippling case of "I Love Power." He also doesn't need to deal with the horrific mental image of a squishy somehow managing to sound like a sparkling. Nope. Nope. NOPE.
The Autobots are grateful the kids can protect themselves a bit now. But by Primus, they have known NO peace since the kids figured it all out.

Ooh! Maybe if they kids wear stuff to remember the autobots maybe the autobots can where stuff to remember the kids they were close to!
Oh my goooood yes yes 10000000000000000000000000x yes These are mainly for their Alt Modes but
Optimus is the most subtle, but he has one of Miko's little dolls as a mirror decoration in his cabin. For Raf, he has a little orange robot on his dashboard, who's comically large red glasses shake during bumpy roads. For Jack, it's more subtle, but he carries a small picture in a hidden compartment, taken by Jack after Optimus had returned to them post Orion incident. Just the two of them.
Bumblebee carries with him one of Raf's old toy cars, something he treasures. He's had help to fix it up and remake the controller to fit his hands. When he was bored, he sometimes played with it. Additionally after that one time they raced in Jasper, Bee has a 1st place ribbon hung from his mirror, in honor of their win that night.
Ratchet too carries a small little dashboard robot, which he vehemently denies to be Raf's favorite color. But no one can fault him for having it, especially after seeing how close he was with Raf.
Bulkhead has his dashboard covered in stickers from Miko, and even has some of said artwork show on his frame, which he bears proudly and makes sure to regularly apply a cover on to keep it all from scuffing in any way.
Arcee being a bike in her alt mode, had some minor difficulty figuring out how she would pay homage to her dear partner. In the end, her choice was very simple, but fitting. A picture of herself, Jack and June, that she had secured to her windshield and no winds could ever make it fly off no matter how fast she flew. Next to it, was a picture of Cliffjumper that the boys had dug up from somewhere.
Smokescreen was unsurprisingly fond of mementos from Earth, and after the time he and Jack spent together, he carries a keychain Jack totally didn't sneak him from K.O Drive Inn kid meals. It's of , appropriately, a race car with his prior paint job.
Wheeljack carries with him, a picture of Miko Bulk, himself and Magnus of all mechs, Miko in her Apex Armor. The katana he bears as weapons also now have a few of Miko's lovely artworks. And in a move that would no doubt make her proud, he started adding harmless dye packs to his bombs. Has made for hilarious reactions from his foes in battle.
Ultra Magnus chose to not bear any on his own frame, as protocol dictated unauthorized modifications to be reprimanded if not properly screened. But at the very least, in his files, there are reports of the 3 human allies, each given the proper honors of war heroes they had earned.
