Rescue Bots Academy headcanons (with a touch of angst)

Hotshot has a (rather poorly) hidden inferiority complex

Heatwave unintentionally adopted Hotshot

Neither has any idea how it happened, Hotshot just became Heatwave's son one day

Blurr has visited the Academy at some point, and he was both glad and upset at how Heatwave has changed

On the one hand, he's happy the recruits and especially Hotshot are getting a good mentor,

But on the other, he's upset that he never got that version of Heatwave, and sometimes he wonders if it's his own fault

Grimlock treats Dinomode Hoist like a dog treats its puppy

Hoist has been scruffed on several occasions

Medix loves bats

Even before the incident with Mr. Flappy, he collected books about bats and loved watching documentaries about them

Autistic Medix, Wedge, and Hoist

ADHD Whirl and Hotshot

None of the recruits have any idea their teachers (except Heatwave) have more than one alt mode

Whirl is a scraplet colony, specifically the one Whirl Sr. Adopted in MTMTE

Whirl Jr. aroace

Colonies of metal-eating pests don't have much interest in romance, as it turns out

Ratchet changed for the better when he found out about Medix

While he is no longer afraid of dinobots, Hoist still finds actual dinosaurs a bit unnerving

This probably has to do with them being organic

While training to use a hose, Hotshot nearly passed out. Several times.

While bats are his favorite, Medix loves most types of animals

The only exception to this is deep-sea creatures

He does not understand them and he does not want to understand them

Wedge has had a brother

The way Medix's family found out he could magnetize was by finding him on the ceiling

Whirl Jr, in her most basic state, looks like a bot-shaped scraplet, with a silver body, solid blue optics, and thin limbs

A lot of bots find this appearance unnerving

In a short period of time, Medix has become more dangerous and unfeeling towards his actions. At least, that's what the others believe.

Except for Whirl. She never believed Medix was truly the bad guy. She, his best friend, never gave up on him. Trial after trial, she risked talking to him when she could, encouraging Medix to come back. That things could go back to normal. Medix wanted to believe her, really. He wanted to have it normal again, but the thought of being pushed to the side and criticized for his emotions only made him fall back on that idea. His "friends" are what made him who he was now. There was no forgiving.

Though he did not forgive, he still struggled to hate. He struggled to pull the trigger. But the rush of his hurting feelings finally let that happen. He aimed the small gun towards Wedge, the closest target. His optics a cold stare as he pulled the little trigger.

And then, in a blur, a figure of blue rushed in before the shot could hit Wedge. A slatter of energon wisked through the air as the figure fell limp.

Wedge rushed in to catch Whirl, cupping the open wound in his hands. Hotshot and Hoist ignored their previous injuries, pushing through to get to their fallen friend.

And Medix. He stared in horror for what he had done.

Hi, I go by Astro. I'm a fanfic writer over on AO3 and Wattpad. I purely write TFRB and RBA related stuff.

I was invited to join Tumblr by @cayennesugar! (Thank you!! I had no idea what I was missing out on)

She mentioned there were a few people on here who've read my books, ((If that's you, I know I neglected you for months- please forgive me)) so I thought I'd post these little sneak peaks of the next chapter of my book, Back To You. Enjoy!

“..sooo, what do you guys think?” Whirl’s voice pulled him out of his thoughts. Colorful paper scraps were displayed on her portion of the screen and made up a visual of the Rust Sea, with two silhouettes, presumably Whirl and her sire, walking servo in servo along the shore.

“That looks great, Whirl!” “Looks just like the real thing.” “Impressive!” the others praised.

“Nice wo-….I like the…..” Hotshot rambled on about the cool 3-D effect of the paper water but was quickly cut off.

“Uh, Hotshot, you’re breaking up.” He could just about make out Hoist’s voice through the radio static. “..h-old..on..” He angled his datapad up at the ceiling. “Ca..n you….hear m..now?” His camera cut off for a split second before returning with horrible graphic quality; his voice was barely audible over the static and sounded distorted.

“uhh..kinda?” Wedge shrugged. “Negative,” Medix shook his helm. Hotshot’s video feed started to laggily shake as he shook the device and gave it a few slaps. “..How about now?” he asked, static finally lifting.

“Yeah, that’s better.”

“Huh.. that’s never happened with the other one,” he muttered, giving the datapad a once-over before dismissing it as a one-time bug.

Unbeknownst to him, across the hall, his Carrier glared at a static screen, typing tirelessly to stabilize the newly forged connection as she waited for the Prime to answer. Seconds turned to minutes, and the buzzing didn’t let up. Growing anticipation fueled her anxiety. Why wasn’t it working—?

"Is something wrong with your dinner?"

Hotshot reeled back from his thoughts and realized he'd been staring at his plate all this time. "I guess I lost my appetite." he meekly shrugged.

"I thought you said you were hungry."

"O-oh, right. I..was?" he gulped, tugging on his helmet in embarrassment. "I..uh-"

"You know you can tell me anything, sweetspark." His breath hitched at the warmth of her servo on his.

"What's on your mind?"

He blinked at her, his big blue optics, wide with apprehension met with her usual calm blues that instantly soothed his nerves.

His dermas trembled, he couldn't hold it any longer. He needed to know. The burning question he'd been bottling up since he was seven finally slipped his glossa.

"Why don't you ever speak about my Sire!?" He winced at how harsh it came out.

Her soft gaze had flashed with utter shock, and Hotshot was quick to notice. The same hurt and lingering sentiments resided in them just like they had all those years ago and elicited a strong feeling of deja vu.

That same suffocating regret he felt when he was 6 flooded his entire being. What had he done?

Whirl definitely wasn't the one who took this pic of these two... and she definitely did not send this pic to the other recruits...

So anyway, here is how the chat goes:

Whirl, texting to the group chat: Hey guys, look who I've found sleeping in student lounge. Medix: Huh, look like last night rescue was too much for them to even walk into their own berthrooms.. Hoist: Yeah, if I was the one who stayed behind last night, I would recharge in the nearest comfortable place I could find too. Whirl: Still, look how cute they are being!! They look so comfortable on eachother! Medix: Indeed, but I never thought of recharging on top of Wedge would be comfortable though..

More Rescue Bots Academy headcanons (this time with extra angst)

Wedge has a twin/splitspark named Axle, who Wedge both misses and despises at the same time

When he was younger, Medix was considered a 'hard-to-handle' child

In reality, he had undiagnosed Autism and didn't do well with others

As of now, he is currently taking medication for it (rescue work gets overstimulating very fast), though it took several prescriptions to find one that didn't kill his personality

Hoist and Whirl are absolute besties

Hotshot was bullied as a kid, which gave him a major inferiority complex

He stopped getting bullied shortly after joining his Cube team, but any insult still hurts him

Whirl feels like an absolute fraud whenever somebody says she's a good rescue bot because she's a scraplet colony pretending to be a bot

She knows it's for her own safety, but she still feels terrible about it

There have been times where late at night, Hoist will get scared by his own reflection if he's in dinomode

He says he's not scared anymore, but he's a little jumpy

Hotshot and the rest of his Cube team have flame designs painted on their heels because they think they're cool

Medix has spent countless hours trying to understand why so many bots don't seem to like him - he does what he's supposed to, so why doesn't anybody want to be around him?

Whirl is almost always hungry because she won't eat metal

It isn't necessary for her to survive, so she refuses to indulge her scraplet mind, but Primus, does it leave her hungry

Wedge gets severe imposter syndrome sometimes

Hoist can be pretty anxious sometimes, especially when he feels like he's already inconveniencing people

Medix listens to hyperpop
