"My Poetical Side"
Here's poem number 2 from my daily poetry challenge for the month of July 2024. Although I am writing one poem each day, I will also publish (or, re-publish) some of my older poems, too.
by Teyuna Darris This poem is on page 6 of my upcoming poetry chapbook, entitled, “Stuff I Wrote from My Heart” under the penname (or pseudonym) Margalo Meeks. I'm trying to become a better teacher
Here's a new (and "old") article I wrote about my desire to become a better teacher and how I want to help others new teachers and substittue teachers to become proficient at what they do.
by Teyuna Darris, PhD Stock image from Pixabay NOTE TO THE READER: I started writing this article at the start of the 2022–2023 academic year, but I finished writing it on July 1st, 2024. Perhaps the difference in tone when you get to the 705th word of this article will suggest a difference in the time in which the two sections of this article was written. Anyway…enjoy! Then The 2022–2023…

Nestled in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta mountain range in Colombia, the ancient Pico Cristobal Colon is home to a variety of rare and endangered species, as well as stunning views of the Caribbean Sea and the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. At 5,775 meters, it is the highest mountain in Colombia and the fourth highest peak in South America.
The mountain, also known as the Pico de Colon, is home to several indigenous communities, and its slopes are covered with lush vegetation. The area is a popular tourist destination, and visitors can take part in trekking, mountaineering, and bird watching.
The mountain is part of a larger protected area, the Santa Marta National Natural Park, and is home to a variety of rare and endangered species, such as the Santa Marta parakeet, the Santa Marta warbler, and the Santa Marta tapir. The mountain also contains a variety of unique and endemic plant species, as well as a wide variety of birds, mammals, and reptiles.
The area is also home to the sacred snow-capped peaks of Teyuna, which are considered a sacred site by the indigenous Kogi people. The Kogi consider the mountain to be the birthplace of their civilization, and it is an important part of their spiritual and cultural heritage.
In recent years, the region has become increasingly popular among foreign tourists, and the Colombian government has taken steps to protect the area from overuse and ensure that the local communities benefit from the tourism industry. The government has also worked to build infrastructure and facilities to accommodate visitors, such as trails, camping sites, and hotels.
The Pico Cristobal Colon is a stunning natural wonder, and its importance to the local communities and environment makes it a must-see destination for any traveler in Colombia.

Hidden deep in the jungle of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta mountains in Colombia sits "Ciudad Perdida", the “Lost City.” Built by the Tayrona people more than 1,200 years ago, the city housed 2000-8000 people.
The ancient wonder is often compared to Machu Picchu as both are archaeological sites perched on hillsides and tucked into South American rainforests. However, "Teyuna" is more than 600 years older and, unlike its Peruvian counterpart, there are no trains or buses allowing for easy travels to reach its ruins. The only way to witness its beauty firsthand is on foot: a grueling multiday hike.
During the Spanish conquest the Tayrona people were wiped out and their settlement disappeared in the lush jungle vegetation. In 1972 a group of grave robbers discovered the city.
La Ciudad Perdida is also known as ..
1. Teyuna (Sacred Paridise)
2. Green Hell (Green nature, Hell fights)
3. Ciudad Dorada (Golden City)
It consists of a series of 169 terraces carved into the mountainside, a web of tiled roads, and several small circular plazas. The entrance can only be accessed by by ascending 1200 stone steps through the jungle.
