Dating Jason Todd (Part Fourteen: Red Hood)

Fic type: angst, hurt/comfort, fluff, (ongoing) I don’t write smut

If you liked the Titans show but wish they handled Jason’s story line differently you might like this fic!

I’m gonna be taking inspo from under the red hood, titans, Arkham knight, comic lore, the Batman, arrowverse and my imagination lol. Of course I don’t own any dc characters this is purely fanfic. Reader is referred to as she/her.

Heyyyy, inspiration just struck me for some reason today. Also so like yk how tik tok got banned for like three hours, well I deleted it and now can’t get it back (don’t worry I saved my favorited edits to pinterest lol). But anyway I’m pissed cause like they took away freedom of speech but also on the other hand I was planning on deleting it away and so now that it’s gone my screen time has been down so much and like I’m off my phone and not doomscrolling anymore and that’s been actually amazing. So yeah long story short mad about the reasoning behind its deletion but happy that I’m not doomscrolling anymore and have a lot of energy back. Anyways I got some more ideas for the red hood plot. I’m probably gonna post a couple more parts to this section of the dating Jason Todd fic but then I’m gonna do another series that is a backstory for this one (so that one’s gonna be reader meeting dick and Jason and becoming a titan).

Part Fourteen: Red Hood

The drive is silent, you fell asleep halfway through and when you open your eyes again, you’re outside the Queen mansion.

“Please please don’t run off again,” Dick says quietly. Even though he’s quiet you can still hear the undertone of anger in his voice.

“I didn’t ask you to go after me,” you snap.

“Listen,” he says turning his head. “I know you think no one’s gonna give you any crap because Jason died,” he sounds so harsh it shocks you. “And I know you and I made up but i won’t let you keep being an asshole to everyone including me in hopes of pushing us away.” “Just because he died doesn’t give you the right to pretend like he’s the only thing, the only person in your life that mattered cause he wasn’t.” You just stare at him with sadness and frustration. You knew he was right and truthfully a couple weeks ago in Chicago you were genuinely happy you and Dick made up, but now he was pissing you off and you were going to make that obvious.

“Thanks for the ride,” you say sarcastically as you grab your bag from the backseat. You get out of the car and see him about to as well. “Dont worry you can watch me go inside to make sure I don’t run off.” You walk to the door and knock. Quickly Thea opens the door, Dick must’ve texted her. Before stepping inside you yell to Dick, “have a nice ride back to San Francisco fuckface.”

“What was that about?” Thea asks.

“Don’t worry about it, he’s just pissing me off,” you say. “I’m sorry I ran off and scared you.”

“You scared everyone,” she says.

“Doesn’t mean I’m going to apologize to everyone,” you say.

“You will…eventually,” she says calmly. “But until then the professional on grief, myself, is here to put up with your mood swings and reckless behavior,” she announces falsely enthusiastically.

“I missed you…I missed being here,” you say.

“Course you missed me in the bestest friend ever,” she says playfully pulling you into a hug. “It’ll get better eventually,” she says in a more serious tone.

A week later and things had in fact not gotten better. Sure you stopped being reckless and snappy but it became the exact opposite. You were unusually quiet, only speaking when someone talked to you first. You spoke softly and slowly, normally you talk a million words per minute. Thea was freaked out by this behavior but you assured her you were fine, just grieving. What she didn’t know was when you were alone, assumed to be reading or doing whatever, you just stared off into space. No music, no TV, just nothingness. Dick hadn’t called you directly. Thea told you he’d been texting her asking how you were to which Thea pointed out how fucking weird the dynamic of your and his friendship is. Rachel called you a couple of times, you answered even though you didn’t want to talk with anyone. Your family back in central city didn’t suspect anything. You didn’t want to worry them or have your mother demand you come home so you acted normal. They knew you dated Jason so they asked how things were going and you simply responded things were fine. He’d never met them, you’d actually been trying to find a weekend to roadtrip to central so he could finally met them, then he died.

You figured Dick and the titans would be going back to the tower but apparently there was some new freak in a mask running around Gotham. So much has changed, but Gotham remains the same old crazy city. The guys calling himself “Red Hood”, or something like that. Apparently he’s killed a bunch of dealers who sell to kids, honestly you couldn’t really argue with that and you knew Jason would see nothing wrong. But since he’s killing, Dick and everyone else have decided he’s their new problem since Joker has been unusually quiet. You don’t even cry anymore and you’re sick of it. You’re sick of acting normal to your parents, of Thea being perfect and understanding, of being angry at Dick, of Dick pissing you off, of being weird to Rachel, of doing nothing. As night approaches you get an idea, a bizarre disturbing self-sabotaging idea. That night once Thea was asleep in the other room, you closed the door to the guest room and turned off the lights. You’re terrified of the dark, yet you turned out the lights; desperate to feel something. Even if that feeling is fear. You sit in the middle of the bed waiting. Waiting for the vines, the terror, the panic that always accompanied the darkness you avoided religiously. The vines never came. Oddly you still felt numb. You weren’t scared, you were sad. Sad that this is what your life had come to. And sad you’d gotten so low you attempted to scare yourself. Suddenly something moved in the darkness. The vines, you thought. It’s always the vines. This time as different though. It was as if the room went cold, a shiver ran up your spine. Suddenly something human shaped moved toward you with a stumble. Your eyes grew wide as you were faced with a hallucination of Jason’s corpse. Quickly you moved away from it and sweared for the light switch. “Fuck, fuck, fuck!” You say frustrated unable to find the light. Suddenly someone else flicks on the light and the image of Jason’s corpse disappears. You turn toward the light switch expecting to see Thea, instead you’re faced with a man in a red mask; redhood. “Shit,” you say knowing he’s not another hallucination and very much real. You dash towards the gun in the nightstand and hold it up towards him.

“Why would you turn the light off,” you look at him with confusion. “You’re scared of the dark,” he says as if he knows you.

“What the fuck do you want,” you say still pointing the gun at him.

“I’m not gonna hurt you,” he says as he takes a step closer. Without hesitation you shoot him in the arm.

“Leave!” You shout. You hold the gun toward him as he walks to the window he broke in.

“I-“ he starts to say.

“I said leave!” You shout as you fire the gun at his head. He’s quick enough jumping out the window so you miss. Seconds later Thea comes running in, holding a gun of her own. Seeing the intruder is gone she lowers her weapon.

“Thought you’d have a bow and arrow,” you say sarcastically.

“I would’ve thought the same of you,” she says playing into your joke.

“What can I say…I was in a rush,” you joke. “Fucking hell this means I have to talk to Dick,” you add.

“Unfortunately yes. Even more unfortunately I have to leave. Oliver’s dealing with Ra’s al Ghul for the millionth time. I guess someone used the Lazarus pit without permission and Ra’s thinks it was Oli,” she says.

“If Jason wasn’t so stubborn and against resurrection I’d have thrown him in,” you say half joking.

“You can still stay here of course, but I have to leave,” she says.

“Course I understand,” you assure her. “Unfortunately I should go to Gotham,” you say. “I have to figure out what this redhood asshole wants.”

So I stumbled on this tik tok today and tried my best to only include the text bc I’m not trying to attack anyone or bring to much attention to it since im only using it as an example.

this is something that I’m very tired of seeing in fandom spaces, especially on the internet and especially in the pjo fandom. I myself LOVE Percabeth and I hate perachel, (I think that’s the first time I’ve typed “perachel” lol) But what I’ve learned to do growing up in this fandom is that yes, I CAN BLOCK ANYONE WHO POSTS ABOUT PERACHEL. AND SO CAN YOU. I CAN BLCOK THE PERACHEL TAG. AND SO CAN YOU. I DONT HAVE TO INTERACT WITH OTHER PEOPLE WHO SHIP PERACHEL. AND NEITHER DO YOU. Bc what ends up happening when you get into an unwarranted debate with someone over fictional characters over the internet is that you end up insulting REAL PEOPLE. PEOPLE THAT EVEN OF YOU BELIEVE TO BE “STUPID” OR “WEIRD” OR WHATEVER, AT THE END OF THE DAY. YOU DONT KNOW THAT.

DONT BE MEAN TO REAL PEOPLE OVER FICTIONAL CHARACTERS.

and it’s not just with the Percabeth vs perachel debate you can use the “out of sight out of mind” mentality with any other topic in any other fandom. Nerdy fandom things are supposed to be fun, and there is nothing wrong with blocking or ignoring people who don’t share the same opinions as u. With so many other things in the real world that actually do need to be debated on and thought hard about, fictional stories doesn’t have to be one of them. Not if it’s gonna cause harm to real people.

I’m REALLY happy with the addition of Nick and mccoy being gone. Because when it was mccoy and Nolan vs Samantha she was NEVER listened to or heard, they’d just like, scoff and ignore her/say she’s being too passionate or shit. But with nick he weighs both of their sides, explains it to the other in a way they can understand (aka talking to Nolan isn’t like talking to a wall lol) and generally backs sam and I really like that about this dynamic.

When is sam gonna be able to work a case on her own? Someone hire hugh dancy for another small gig so he needs time off lol

This is a super intriguing and controversial case. Like, when a baby is born/killed/pregnant woman is beaten and the baby is found dead (or any of those kind of cases on svu) it’s always considered murder of the baby if they took a breath outside of the womb, meaning they’re breathing on their own. Currently the vis is NOT breathing on her own cause of machines, so the same notion should apply… (which is lowkey what they’re going for with this case)

Nolan as far as I remember is single, now we know about his dad. Sam’s sister was killed and the perp never sentenced/found. We know little to nothing about Nick as of now….

Thank you for the ask! Unfortunately, I'm probably not the best person to recommend fics as I haven't read very many Wolfstar fics in the past few years because I'm so picky about how Sirius and Remus are written. I have a hard time finding Wolfstar fics that meet my Sirius-standards! And huge confession... I haven't read tcoptp (yet! it's on my list!) and I didn't like ATYD's. Blasphemous! I know. I tried.

If I haven't completely turned you away at this point and are still interested the best I can think to recommend is down below,

What I am currently reading, The MapMakers by Dizzy_Bird. So far it's lighthearted and enjoyably chaotic.

Fics that have been recommended to me that I haven't read yet but look promising:

Fairytales of Yesterday, by padfootandprongsy

Ripples of Light, by moonlighthowl, this one has Death Eater Sirius.

Fics I have read: Operation Toebeans, a short but funny story. Sirius is hilarious and I appreciate his dedication to the cause. While more lighthearted it does have some serious moments.

Text Talk by merlywhirls is a muggle AU where Sirius goes to boarding school and Remus has a chronic illness, and they meet when Sirius texts the wrong number. I think about this fic a lot and re-read it often. I would probably recommend this one the most if you like ATYD's.

You should also look up the Shoebox Project by Jaida and Rave, if you haven't already. It's the building blocks of the old Wolfstar fandom. Written as a series of letters.

I know you asked for Wolfstar but I also highly recommend The Last Enemy series by CH_Darling. It's slow building Jily centric with even slower building Wolfstar. It's by far my favorite fic and contains my favorite ever characterizations of the Marauder boys, most especially Sirius. He's cool, smart, suave, an arrogant ponce, and a bully. Lily actually reminds me of ATYDs Remus (I think? lol), which you might enjoy. This fic probably matches the vibe of ATYD's most, just with Jily at center stage. I took a chance on it while looking for Wolfstar fics and I am so happy that I did, even if Wolfstar is but crumbs so far.

These probably aren't exactly what you're looking for but like I said I'm kind of picky. Happy fic hunting!

(p.s. highly recommend Leslie Grace on Tik Tok, she makes awesome Wolfstar edits, and I believe she's an ATYD's fan. Her Sirius is very Sirius! I'm obsessed!)

Okay, so this is all I’ve got, and I am struggling so it may stay as only this (cause this isn’t really that good anyway?? lol):

Thorin hadn’t meant for it to happen, not really. He had just felt himself falling, and the feeling had completely and utterly terrified him. So naturally, he did what he always did; he pulled away, he withdrew into his mind where his ever-raging storm of self-doubts and insecurities welcomed him as an old friend. They slid into his mind, twisted his thoughts, spread their oily fingers through his very skin, until he was left facing down what he assumed was simply the inevitable. Eventually, he was going to be seen as he truly was, a burden, and his heart was going to be broken.

In the end, he did what he did best. He left.

And it had hurt, of course it had hurt. But that feeling too he pushed aside, shoving it down deep beneath walls designed to keep even himself out, until he had convinced even himself that he was fine, that everything was okay. He threw himself into work and into spending time with his nephews. And when he did have a spare moment to think about Him, he kept his true thoughts and feelings locked deep in their cage, unwilling to take them out and study them, dissect them, experience them.

They were not meant for the land of the awake and conscious. They were not meant to be acknowledged at all.

Of course, Thorin should’ve known that the carefully constructed lies he had built up around and inside him would eventually unravel and leave him feeling torn open and raw and vulnerable. However, it had honestly never occurred to him that he would be missed, that he would be anything other than swept into the corner of His mind where he would fade away into nothing more than a faint memory and, sooner rather than later, forgotten altogether.

It happens on a seemingly innocuous Wednesday in the middle of a particularly wet February, the day Thorin’s carefully constructed world shifts and tilts beneath his feet. It all begins with a text.

From: BB, 7:36 AM. I know you don’t do Tik Tok but I saw this video and immediately thought of you. Had to share it.

Beneath the words is a link, that Thorin would honestly care less about at the moment. He is too fixated on the wording of the message itself. He feels a throb deep in his chest at the thought that Bilbo was thinking of him. He had no reason, as far as Thorin could tell, to be thinking of him at all. He certainly hadn’t earned that right, and before he knows what is happening, the dam he had so carefully built up inside him ever since that fateful day cracks. He can feel it, fissures shooting out in all directions, weakening the foundations and causing everything to shudder. He can practically hear it in his mind when the whole thing eventually gives entirely, crashing spectacularly and leaving him short of breath.

He stares at the message, unable to decide what to do. He knew what he wanted to do. He wanted to demand why Bilbo had texted him, why Bilbo was even sparing him a single, fleeting thought, if his message was secretly a plea for something else. He bites his tongue as his fingers twitch slightly. He curls his hands into fists as he stares at his now dark phone screen, sitting innocently on his desk beside his wrist.

What did he do?

With trembling hands, he reaches out and picks his phone up, thumbing it open. He hovers his fingertips over the screen, torn between replying or watching whatever video had apparently reminded Bilbo Baggins of his ex of seven months.

Based on this text post I had made a little while ago:

“Because I don’t know what you want from me.” He says softly. There’s a hint of obvious pain lacing his tone, no matter how hard he tries to cover it up, lock it away from view.

“Maybe I just want to be friends.” Comes the reply. There’s something there, but it’s unreadable, blurred like a landscape obscured in thick, white fog.

A pause. “And what if I can’t do that? What if there are too many memories there of holding your hand, tasting your smile? What if it hurts too much knowing I’m not allowed to do that anymore?”

Soooo

It was nice being off today and I slept in late but like off and on until like noon. I literally kept waking up, eating some ice and snacks and falling back to sleep. Which sort of put me in a bad mood cause I saw my morning as wasteful instead of me cleaning up.

We had to go grocery shopping, go to BJ’s and get gas and I was going to get Mary Lou’s coffee but we went out super late and the traffic was gross so we just stayed in one general area and got our errands done.

I made a sheet pan dinner of chicken fajitas and it was so freaking good! It was because my girlfriend showed me this Tik Tok of a girl making chicken, peppers and Frontera taco sauce packet on a sheet pan. Supposedly it went viral and it’s super easy. And yes it was amazing lol. Although I couldn’t find the taco one so we just used the fajita one.

AND I came home to some Covid Essential Employee check from the government and I was not expecting it so it was a nice surprise! It’s starting to get stressful financially and I was planning on doing Instacart tomorrow and Sunday but now I don’t have to! Like I work 40+ hours and have only one day off so it’s nice to actually be able to relax after work and not have to go do more work. But I am looking forward to the new job even though I’ll be working two jobs then…

I really wanted to dye my hair but it’s like 10 and I have no energy and need to wake up at 5 for work.. I’m hoping and praying that it’s busy for the online shopping because usually on Friday mornings I put up the new sale tags at work but tomorrow the guy who normally opens up the online shopping is off so I have to do it til 8 when a girl normally comes in. I’m kind of getting tired of putting tags up and I love the online shopping so fingers crossed it’s busy!

I love how my update/random shit text posts are like so random … like rereading it I’m like “no one cares debra 🙄” 😂😂

today im going surprise my sister I've been away at college studying community fashion. I graduated yesterday I didn't tell my sister cause I wanted to be able to surprise her with my return. im younger im 18 Avery is 19. She’s my best friend, I cant help but get so excited as being only 10 minutes away. I decided to make a video on tik tok obviously I made sure I got our home land marks so she would question it. I get a text from Avery

I finally arrive so I don't bother to text her out mom parks in the garage. she walks in and begins videoing, Avery questions the video saying “mom why are you videoing me?” I sneak around the back and slip through the gliding glass door I sneak behind her mom laughs Avery made a face as if saying why the hell you laughing. I pick up my hands and place them on her eyes quickly. she screams immediately realizing its me. she turns and smashes herself on me hugging me tightly. I say “I just took that video to mess with you.” we sob into each others arms. Avery says “I am leaving in 25 minutes to go meet my friend Maihua im flying there if you want to come.” I nod and she grabs my luggage and places it next to hers at the door. I say “hey why don't we go get coffee before we go like we used to when we’d visit gams.” she nods excitedly we say goodbye to mom and dad and load our stuff. we grab our coffee and have just enough time to check in. we got on the plane to fly out there. Avery says “you and my friend would be great together ill introduce y'all.”I laugh at her for trying to set me up 15 minutes go by and we fall asleep.

next morning 6:30 a.m.

we finally land Avery texts Maihua asking her to pick us up. she told her last night that I was with her. we grabbed our luggage and to pick up area she sees her friend and runs to her when I finally get a good look I realize it was Maihua Lee my tik tok crush I laugh quietly in embarrassment. I walk up to them Maihua hugs me sweetly saying “nice to finally meet you I've heard a lot about you.” I hug back and say “nice to meet you as well.” I have this weird thing where when im being awkward and am embarrassed I hiccup. Avery notices and says “I knew I it, I look at her with a death stare. she laughs we all leave. Maihua helps load our things and we head to a breakfast place to eat. when we get there we all do a tik tok together. me not realizing I was the target of the video they both choked me. we all burst into laughter the waitress shushed us, we quieted down my face was so red. Avery says “haha your blushing monkey’s got a crush monkey’s got a crush!” I playfully punched her arm blushing harder, Maihua blushes at basically being put on the spot. Maihua says “I think its cute.” we look at her confused she blushes and says “by that I mean your blushing is cute.” I hiccup in nervousness, they both chuckle. we all decided to go downtown and take videos and pics. when we got there Maihua goes on live and we play truth or dare the audience has to choose a truth or dare for one of us but to be able to do it 5 people in the comments has to agree. Avery says okay guys its (y/n)’s turn give her one remember 5 people have to agree. we were all watching the comments closely only one person chose a dare Avery says “guys if you really want (y/n) to kiss Maihua 5 people have to agree.” we both look at her scared she laughs, within a minute a bunch of people agreed. we looked at each other nervously both agreeing. we turn to one another and stood closer, she hesitantly placed her hands on my hip and face. I placed mine on her neck and cheek, we both leaned in and began the kiss. our eyes closed as the kiss was mutually enjoyable. it was so passionate and sweet , I know this is cliché but I could kiss her forever it felt like it was only us an as if fireworks erupted from her soft smooth lips. the timer dang telling us the dare was over she pecked my lips sweetly and pulled away I stood there dumb founded. I turned to the camera finally coming back to reality Avery says “damn you guys is this gonna be some you love at first site third wheel lovely dovely type shit?” I laughed and hiccupped awkwardly someone asked in the comments “how was the kiss you two?” Maihua says “it was great” that's all she said which kind of stung but maybe she just doesn't want to go into detail on camera. but to my surprise she chuckles loudly and says “im just kidding that honestly was the best kiss ive had I am just nervous and I make lesser statements to undermine how I really feel.” I smile at her and playfully top her I push her softly into the pole and kiss her again she turns us and tops me kissing me we pull apart Avery is on the ground laughing at us. we all begin to laugh knowing this is the best home coming I could've imagined. having my sister is amazing but she is the best wingman ever.
