as a native Californian who was raised in the bay and has lived in socal for the past few years, what is happening truly breaks my heart. People born on this earth are not illegal. The ICE raids in LA are sickening and the amount of families and friends and neighbors that are affected is horrible. To think that stripping people from their lives for something as stupid as a piece of paper is immoral and wrong. To believe that immigrants of any kind are wrong is a view I don't stand for. No one is illegal especially on stolen land. especially when this "great nation" was built on the backs of immigrants. Fuck this administration. Fuck anyone who voted for the current president. Fuck this entire system because how could you believe that someone born on this earth, doesn't belong? In a world with made up rules and laws, these can not be the ones we are backing. We must protest and speak out and defend one another. Please stay safe. Please check on your neighbors. Please know that this is a safe space.
I know I haven't posted many pics recently but just in case you were wondering who you are reading from, trust that this author doesn't condone any homophobia, racism, transphobia and supports a world where people deserve to live freely and safely.

Ahhh super cute!!
Five Times Kirishima Kisses Bakugou's Hands
.....
The first time he does it, it's a joke.
Bakugou and Kirishima are rough-housing, as they sometimes do, and Bakugou laughs as he shoves his palm into Kirishima's face. The tiny sparks popping off of his hand are nothing worrisome, he's not trying to actually hurt Kirishima, and the other would harden himself anyways. Instead, instinct leads Kirishima to lean up to kiss Bakugou's hand, right over his sparking palm, face half-hardened and smile wide.
Bakugou is stunned in the moment, and Kirishima uses his distraction to get out of the other's hold and to pin him with his own arms. Bakugou doesn't even begrudge him the win, seemingly distracted, and Kirishima doesn't think anything more of it.
The second time it happens, it's a strategic move.
Bakugou is all anger, palms exploding, eyes focused on the target. It's been a bad day, between his internship and a test from Aizawa, and he's been practicing this one move for hours now. Kirishima has sat quietly and watched, unable to really help, but he wants to be there.
It's nearing the three hour mark--the sun has long since set--when Kirishima decides enough is enough. Bakugou is frustrated, yes, but he's also trembling under the power of his own explosions, sweaty and exhausted from a long workout.
Kirishima stands and steps forward in Bakugou's next lull period, grabbing Bakugou's wrist.
“Oi–”
Kirishima leans down to kiss his knuckles briefly, eyes locked on Bakugou's. He squeezes Bakugou's hand in his own.
“Let's go, Katsuki,” he says quietly.
Bakugou deflates, relenting. He follows Kirishima out of the gym without argument.
The third time, it's a gesture of intent.
Kirishima didn't think he'd been subtle. All this time, he felt confident that he'd made his desires known, simply letting Bakugou lead them on the path they were headed down. It was, of course, inevitable that they'd end up together.
It's late when things finally change. A late night on patrol meant Bakugou got back to the dorm after most people had gone to bed. Not Kirishima though, the redhead dozing on the couch as he waits. The door opening startles him awake, and he smiles when he sees Bakugou home.
“Welcome back,” Kirishima murmurs, standing and reaching out a hand. Bakugou accepts it, reaching back, and Kirishima lifts his hand to his face so he can kiss the warm palm, pressing his cheek into it afterwards.
Bakugou watches him with dark eyes, only the dim nightlight in the kitchen giving them anything to see by. He steps closer, and Kirishima echoes him.
“Thanks,” Bakugou whispers, and his breath wafts over Kirishima's lips.
They're so close. This is how they've always been, orbiting closer and closer, never quite going over that edge. But Kirishima is tired of them avoiding the elephant in the room. He steps even closer, nose brushing Bakugou's.
“Welcome back,” he repeats, dipping his head to press a soft kiss against Bakugou's lips. The blond returns the pressure, leaning just a bit more into the touch as Kirishima pulls back, keeping them together for just a moment longer.
“About time,” Bakugou says, and he grins.
Kirishima smiles back, and they hold hands as they head upstairs to bed.
The fourth time, Kirishima is trying to be romantic.
They've been together officially for nearly six months, and Kirishima is stressing about it. He's never experienced this, this overwhelming feeling of love for another. He wants to shout it from the rooftops, but he can't even get the words out in front of Bakugou. As soon as the blond looks at him, with that soft look saved just between the two of them, Kirishima loses track of every word he knows.
They have a quiet night in, as usual, and it makes something in Kirishima so warm, for Bakugou to be so comfortable with him. He feels so full, so happy, and he reaches over to interrupt Bakugou's writing to take his hand and bring it to his face for a brief kiss.
“What are you doing?” Bakugou asks, but he doesn't pull away, face flushing a little pink.
“I really like you, bro,” Kirishima murmurs, smiling at him. “Like, so much.”
Bakugou's face is fully red now, and the other bites his lip. “I…do too. I mean, you too. I…like you too.”
Kirishima grins, kissing the other's hand again because it's there and he can, before leaning over to kiss Bakugou's lips too.
The fifth time, Kirishima is fully in love and ready to admit it.
They've had ups and downs, but never once has Kirishima felt like they weren't on the right path. Bakugou and him were partners, teammates for life, and he couldn't imagine not having the other by his side.
They're just walking, meandering over a bridge really, when Kirishima gently tugs Bakugou to a stop. The other looks back at him, and Kirishima smiles, lifting their joined hands so that he can kiss the back of Bakugou's.
“I love you,” he says, and it's the first time of many. He knows it.
Bakugou's eyes widen a moment at the declaration before he seems to melt a bit, softening his edges in a way he only does for Kirishima.
“Love you too, Ei,” he returns.
Kirishima can't help but lean forward, free hand cupping Bakugou's face to kiss him soundly. He feels lighter than air, feels unbeatable, stronger than unbreakable. He hugs Bakugou tightly, lifting him and spinning them around as they both laugh.
After that, Bakugou stops counting the number of times that Kirishima kisses his hands. His hands are weapons, bombs, but Bakugou feels Kirishima's precious trust every time the other brushes his lips against his hands, and even if he loses count of the times, it never stops causing a tiny spark of love to zip down his spine.

Happy Juvia Day(?)
Here's another entry for GruVia Month 2025 Week 1: Birthday. Another brain rot and fluff! I wrote this at 2 AM because I cannot sleep and I just had to write and post it before I forget and lose motivation hahaha
Word count: ~1, 600 | Rating: r13 | Language: English
--------
It's almost 12 midnight when Gray arrived in his apartment. He turned on the lights and noticed that his place was clean and tidy, especially since his clothes were not on the floor, and that's enough of a clue that his girlfriend was in his apartment.
Actually, he wished she was in his place when he decided to catch up on the last trip of the train. He was so tired, he went on a solo mission, but he really wanted to go home and rest with Juvia. Gosh, he's been out for four days and he cannot think of anything else but to be with her. He's getting sappy.
Assuming that she's in his room, he quietly opened his bedroom’s door. And there she was, silently sleeping. Gray sat next to her and made a quick peck on her forehead before going to the bathroom to take a shower.
Feeling refreshed, he put on a new pair of boxers and lay beside his sleeping girlfriend.
“Welcome home.” He heard his girlfriend whisper as she turned in his direction to wrap her arms around him with her eyes still closed.
Finding her antics adorable, Gray made a quick kiss on her lips.
“I'm home. Sorry, did I wake you up?” he asked and he felt her head shake as she nuzzled her face to his chest.
“Juvia felt your kiss on her forehead so she waited for you as you took a shower.” She finally looked at him and smiled.
“How's your mission?” Juvia asked.
“It was fine, it was harder than I expected but I finished it with no major injuries,” he replied as he made little kisses on her neck.
“You're early, you're supposed to be going home tomorrow morning,” Juvia sighed as she continued to appreciate the way he makes her feel.
Gray stopped and went on top of her.
“I don't know, I suddenly had this feeling that I have to go home today.” Gray frowned.
“I didn't miss any important events, did I?” His question made Juvia giggle.
She reached for his face with her hand and caressed one of his cheeks.
“Nope. It's another simple day.”
“Really? I know it's not our anniversary. But I don't know, something's off.”
Juvia wrapped her arms around his neck and pulled him closer for an embrace. Gray leaned forward, finding comfort in her embrace.
“Is this why you came home early?” Juvia asked as she played around with his hair.
“Hmm.” Gray hummed as he closed his eyes. The tiredness of his body slowly started kicking in again.
“I even bought a cupcake on my way here just in case I forgot something.”
“You bought Juvia a cupcake?” Juvia chuckled.
“Hmm, I don't want to come home empty-handed,” he replied with a yawn. Juvia's touch was lulling him to sleep.
“Well… maybe because it's Juvia's birthday?” Juvia said nonchalantly, announcing the information as if it's not a big deal.
Suddenly, Gray’s tiredness was gone and Juvia felt his body stiffen.
“Gray-sama… go back to sleep.”
Gray straightened up, lifted his upper body to check if he heard her clearly.
“What do you mean maybe it's your birthday?” Gray frowned, looking intently into her eyes, looking for answers.
Juvia smiled and caressed one of his cheeks.
“Well, it's technically yesterday but it's not a big deal, Gray-sama.” Her reply made his frown deepen.
“It's your birthday and I didn't know.”
“Juvia doesn't mind.”
“I do.” Gray insisted.
Juvia offered him a sweet smile as she noticed the guilt in his eyes.
“It's your birthday and I wasn't here to celebrate it with you.” Gray sighed. He felt horrible for not being present.
“I shouldn't have taken that mission,” Gray whispered guiltily. He could not even look at her.
“No, Gray-sama. Look at Juvia.” Gray was still lost in his thoughts. “Please?”
Gray looked at her and Juvia didn't know how to feel. Guilty for making him feel guilty? Or happy because he's concerned about her feelings.
“Juvia doesn't mind because she doesn't really celebrate her own birthday.”
“But why? It's the day of your birth. I could at least buy you a gift.”
“You bought me a cupcake.” Juvia just shrugged.
“Juvia…” Gray complained at her answer. “It wasn't enough.”
Worrying that he might continue feeling guilty, Juvia pushed her lover and pinned him to bed and slightly kissed his lips.
“Well, for Juvia, today is—”
“You mean yesterday?” Gray said sarcastically. Juvia just sighed.
“Yesterday was just a normal day to her because she doesn't think her birthday is worth celebrating.” And before he could react to her statement, Juvia pecked his lips again as her sign of shutting him up.
“Juvia knows it's an important day but Juvia doesn't really have any experience of celebrating her birthday, you know? Juvia never told you because to her, it's just another day. Sure, she's grateful to be alive for another year, but she's always been grateful to be alive every day.” Juvia leaned into Gray's chest.
“Especially when she knows she can finally be like this with you.” Juvia chuckled. “She's been through a lot so she's treating every day as a special day. Her birthday is special, but it's as special as any other normal day.” Juvia grinned, which made Gray smile. Finally getting much better, getting assurance from her.
“So please stop being guilty? She didn't inform you to make you feel bad, she informed you so you know why you feel off. She's fine not celebrating it because she's happy to be alive every day and she's happy to be with you. Okay?”
“I love you.” That's what Gray could only respond with. He didn't know what else to say. He knew that sometimes his girlfriend’s worldview can be unique from his. But he was there to support and accept it.
“I love you too,” Juvia replied, kissing him passionately. “Now go back to sleep. Juvia knows you're tired. We can talk again tomorrow.”
Juvia woke up with the smell of sugar and buttery aroma. She slid her hands to her side and realized that her Gray-sama was not on her side.
It's weird for her Gray-sama to wake up earlier than her. Curious about what he's up to, she quickly cleaned up, and went to the kitchen.
As she expected, it's her Gray-sama… and he's cooking.
“What are you up to?” she asked, which startled Gray. He was too focused on what he was doing that he didn't notice her presence.
“Oh shit.” Seeing him slightly panicking, Juvia went closer but was stopped.
“Stay there!” Juvia raised her eyebrow at his request.
“Um, you can sit there and I'll just finish this.” Gray pointed to a stool near the kitchen counter. “This will be quick. Geez, you're up so early.”
Juvia chuckled at his statement.
“Are you trying to surprise Juvia with breakfast?”
“Yeah but you're up. Good thing I'm almost done.” Gray didn't even look at her, too focused on his activity. Juvia noticed that he's writing something.
“Alright.” Gray brushed his hands. “Done.”
Gray turned around with a grin and started singing,
“Happy birthday to you. Happy birthday to you. Happy birthday my dear Juvia. Happy birthday to you!” Gray sang as he went in her direction, carrying a tray of food.
“Thank you, darling!” Juvia thanked him with a kiss on his cheek. “Ohhh, pancakes. Yum!”
“Well yeah, I figure that cupcake is not enough but it's too early for a birthday cake so… pancakes.” Gray smiled sheepishly. “I hope that's alright with you?”
“It's more than perfect. But—”
“And before you say more, I understand what you were trying to say last night. You treat your everydays as special days but I realized that I can make your birthday, your normal day, a more special day.”
Juvia's eyes widened at his statement. She could not believe his words.
“I figured that you may treat your birthday as your normal day, but I can make it, hopefully, a more memorable day compared to your other special normal days.” Gray grinned.
Just when she thought nothing could make her fall for him harder, oh boy, she was wrong.
Juvia's heart was full. This man is just unbelievable.
“Juvia? Why are you crying?” Gray asked his girlfriend with worry. “Did I do something wrong? Is this too much?”
Juvia shook her head. “She's just happy, Gray-sama.” she continued, wiping her tears away.
Gray smiled at her.
“Well then, make a wish.” Gray pulled out a candle and was about put it on top of the pancakes. “Oh shit, I bought the wrong one.”
Curious, Juvia took a look at the pancakes.
“I forgot to write the word ‘day’ on this one but I rewrote it but I think I panicked when I noticed you were already awake.” Gray blushed, brushing his cheek with his finger. “Should I bring the correct one?”
Gray accidentally only wrote ‘Happy Juvia’ using chocolate syrup on the pancakes he made for her.
And with that, Juvia laughed. A heartfelt laugh that sounded like music to Gray’s ears.
“I'm so sorry, Gray-sama, but it's so funny.” Juvia laughed so much that tears formed in her eyes.
“Happy Juvia!” Juvia cracked again as she read the text on her pancakes, which made Gray laugh as well.
There they were. Early in the morning laughing over a silly mistake.
“There's nothing wrong with this, Gray-sama. It completely describes Juvia now… she's happy. Today is a normal day, a normal day with a Happy Juvia.” Juvia looked at her love in the eyes and grinned. Gray could not help but kiss her on her lips.
“Before it gets soggy, make a wish, Happy Juvia!” Gray said and Juvia nodded with excitement.
Happy Juvia made a simple wish. She wished her normal days would never end. Normal days where her beloved Gray-sama would never fail to make them more special.
The End.
Me right now: 🫩

---
Juvia couldn’t remember the last time she had celebrated her birthday. It must have been when someone had marked her height on a door frame. As she got older, it didn't seem as important. When she had been apart of Phantom Lord, it was best to leave everything behind, her choice or not.
Her birthday. Her interests. Even her hobbies had all subconsciously fallen victim to the darkness. Slowly, the things that had brought her joy, no longer sparkled. There was nothing of who she was that followed into that guild. Even her name had been taken over by Rain Woman. She had become a checked coat and had lost the ticket years ago.
She knew when it was of course. For the time she spent there, it had really only been a day. Why celebrate someone who never knew a happy day? She was feared and admired for the torture she could inflict. People like that don’t blow out candles.
She had tried once at that guild. It was dark out and she was in a room toward the back. She had found a bakery in one of the towns she was in on business. Her fellow guild mate Gajeel had walked past her and without missing a beat, she tossed it in the trash before the candle had a chance to be lit.
If anyone would have asked, it would have been responded with a cold glare and an even colder shoulder. The last time she tried to celebrate before that, the rain had snuffed out the flame of her candle. A little girl stuck in an orphanage hoping that the candle would grant her something more than rainy skies and muddy puddles. It had become clear to her that there was no room for a party in her life.
When the calendar turned to her month and she would stare at the day, pure dread would fill her body. The day would near and it felt like she hadn't moved in years. Sometimes she could feel her younger self clawing from the inside begging for just a moment of notice. Then the day would come with clouds much darker than the others, and then it would be over.
She had tried her best to forget it. No need to add to her raging disappointment.
And then, something happened.
A rooftop that was suppose to be a battle ground became a place of rebirth. She had thought that once she fell, then she wouldn't have to dread the day any longer. That wasn't the case. She was pulled into a light much brighter than the sun.
Her old guild mark that branded her skin was replaced with one that kissed her thigh. She suddenly had a purpose other than darkness.
Everything that had been stripped from her was returned. Her name. Her magic. Everything.
It scared her at first. It took a while for her to warm up to the kindness people began to show her. For once she felt like she was a part of something and not a pawn in a game. She had a home and friends, something she had once wished for years ago before her name was taken for a title.
No one knew what day her birthday was. She hadn’t spoken it out loud in so long that she was convinced that she hadn’t actually been born, she was just, here. She preferred it that way. She never was one to be the center of attention.
But of course, he always found out.
"Okay, you can open your eyes now." Gray's voice lingered.
Juvia removed her hands from her face and her eyes fluttered open. Before her was a cupcake with white frosting and a blue buttercream rose. A candle with dark blue stripes stood tall and held a delicate golden flame.
Its light flickered and she was stuck on how beautiful it was. So simple and yet, she was fascinated by the gesture.
She stared at it as if she had never seen something like this before. A familiar feeling come through. It felt like when she had first saw the clear blue sky.
She hesitated to touch it, afraid that if she did then she would wake up from this dazzling dream. But when she did touch it, it stayed. It was real. It was her birthday and it was hers to claim. She wanted to stay here forever and soak it all up like how the sun felt on her skin.
"Juvia?" Gray asked. "Are you okay?"
She hadn't noticed the tears forming but the sky didn't budge from its sunset glow. She nodded and wiped them.
"Juvia is-." Her words caught in her throat. "She's very happy. Thank you."
He huffed. " I know your birthday isn't something you're used to."
"That's not-"
"Gajeel told me." He said honestly. "I get it. And I know that it might take a while for you to get used to it, but believe me. As long as I'm here, you'll never have to be alone again."
She smiled softly. "Juvia will admit that she didn't expect any of this. She never thought that she would ever celebrate it again, but right now, Juvia is extremely happy. These tears are shed for joy, nothing else."
"Every day is worth celebrating you." Gray kissed her cheek. "Happy birthday, Juvia. Now, make a wish."
As she closed her eyes and Gray started to hum the tune to a birthday song, she thought about everything she had ever wanted. She felt bad blowing out the candle, but it was on her terms, no one else. She opened her eyes, feeling his gaze on her.
"What did you wish for?" He questioned.
She giggled. "Juvia was told you aren't suppose to share your wish."
He held his hands up in defeat. "Alright, keep it."
Gray stood and reached out his hand for her to take. "You can eat your cupcake on the way to the guild."
She furrowed her brows in confusion as she stood up. "We are going to the guild hall?"
He raised his own brows. "You think the guild would let you not have a party?"
Her eyes widened with a sparkle. "They are throwing Juvia a party?"
Sometimes Gray underestimated the desperate hopefully look in her eyes. The pain of not knowing how much she was truly loved by everyone. How her past had caused her to think she didn't deserve simple things.
"Of course. I wasn't really suppose to tell you but, they decorated and everything. I just wanted to have a moment with you alone before you are swept away with all your friends." He kissed her hand. "Plus, I have to make sure the birthday girl is escorted properly to her party."
She blushed. "Is that why you insisted Juvia wear her party dress?" She teased.
He shrugged. "I just thought you would like to wear something special for your day. Now let's go before I get scolded for keeping you all to myself."
"Juvia wouldn't mind that." She winked.
"I wouldn't either but I think you would rather have your boyfriend alive." He laughed as he guided her to the hall.
As she was brought to the guild hall, she could see the lights leading up to the door. A banner with her name hung proudly as if they were honoring her.
Her heart drummed fast in her chest as the doors opened and everyone she had come to love was cheering for her. She felt Gray's eyes on her as she smiled at everyone.
"I hope you get everything you wished for, Juvia!" Lucy hugged her and brought her over to a table that looked like it would collapse from the mountain of gifts.
"Happy birthday, Rain Woman." Gajeel nodded at her.
Juvia saw a knowing look in his eyes. Something deep that they both shared. She thought back to the time he saw her with a cupcake. Her eyes widened in realization.
"Thank you." She mouthed.
Before she reached the gift table, she was presented with a large cake with three tiers. It was covered in candles that a certain fire wizard had lit himself and caused some of the icing to melt.
"Another cake?" Juvia gasped.
The view from beyond the cake was familiar faces all awaiting for her to blow out her candles. Her eyes found familiar dark ones. Gray watched her with a drink in his hand and raised it up.
"To Juvia!" He yelled.
The guild erupted in a mass cheer. She placed her hands on the table to steady herself and blew out the candles, hitting each one. Her smile could barely fit on her face as it began to be sliced up.
"Thats like a hundred wishes she just got!" Natsu laughed as he was handed a plate full of cake.
"I hope you use them all wisely." Cana winked.
Little did her friends know that when she blew out the flames, not a single wish was made. For Juvia couldn't think of anything else she would want but this moment to last forever.
Gray found her moments later and pulled her off to the side.
"I hope you are enjoying your party." He smiled at her.
She clapped her hands together and twirled around. "Oh Gray, my love, it's perfect!"
He took her hand and spun her around again to the music playing through the hall. They danced for a while for he pulled her close to him.
"Happy Birthday, Juvia." He said before he placed his lips against hers and kissed her.

Reaching Out
Pairing: Gruvia (Fairy Tail)
Prompt: Love at First Sight (from my feb prompt list)
Note: hello divas, it was my birthday a few days ago, lol. And while I'm still working through those damn feb prompts (why did I think that was a good idea? who knows) I wanted to post this! One of my fav ships of all time. Now this fic is much softer and hopefully y'all like it. I feel like its not like traditional fan fic writing..idk, but I like it so im gonna post it lol. I'll stop typing but enjoy this cause I had fun writing it!! Much love to all love. Its short n sweet.
---
The idea of love was almost a foreign concept to him. While he knew the laws of attractions, he didn’t believe his heart could do anything more than pump blood through his body. Magic could flow through his veins, but emotions became stunted when his heart was involved.
A deep desire, one he would never speak out loud, would be to get rid of the ice shell around his own heart. To know that maybe one day, someone could find peace within him. It was a dream that he believed half-heartedly, like the fairy tales his mother used to read him.
Maybe once, moons ago, he did believe in all that. Sometimes those beliefs get to be held longer by others, but for him, many things left him at a young age. It was easier to swallow the pill that love just wasn’t in the cards for him. Even as a wizard, there were some things that he couldn’t fathom.
Love. It was out of reach. Grasping with the tips of his fingers, it always slipped through and suddenly, he couldn’t remember the last time he tried to reach out. There was no point. Only the fear that he would wind up left alone once again. It was safer this way. One more crack in the ice and he was terrified that he would drown.
He wished he could tell his past self how wrong he would be. He wished he could tell himself how he learned how to breathe again. How the idea of something more kept him haunted in a way that he couldn’t comprehend. How a rooftop would become his holy land.
The universe didn’t allow for confusion as she approached him. It was like there was a golden string attached to him and somehow, she had always been connected. Tugging over and over, he felt something shift within him.
He knew himself better than anyone, and yet, this feeling…
It felt.
New.
Blue eyes met his dark ones and the world felt lighter. His heart was thumping to a melody he had never heard. A symphony he started to crave. A song he would have on repeat for the rest of his life.
She was an enigma. He never was the brightest but he wanted to study her. To know why he felt this way. What could she possibly have that he needed?
During their first meeting, a battle he was certain he might lose, there was something new that happened and it caused a shift. Another crack in his ice and yet, somehow he wasn’t falling. There was no darkness to consume him but something utterly wonderful.
The flushing of her cheeks when he spoke had sent his mind into chaos. She enticed him and he wanted more. In the deepest parts of his soul, parts that he didn't even allow himself to travel to, something erupted. A flicker of a flame that came from embers that were unsuspecting.
His throat was dry when she approached. A demeanor of coldness that rivaled his own. Her dark blue eyes captured him and threatened to hold his gaze until she said so. Power oozed from her and something made his spine straighten out.
For a moment, a belief he had doubts about, started to form. He wanted to push the thought away. He had been hurt, so accustomed to loss, that the idea of another leaving had overshadowed a good memory that could form. It was a momentary belief. Nothing more. Yet for the man who let life slip through his fingers time and time again, he made no hesitation reaching out to her.
He had never moved faster. His legs pushing him and nearly sending him over the edge. His hand clutched around hers in a desperate attempt to save her. While to the outside world, he was clearly saving her, he didn’t know that she would salvage a broken heart. How reaching out to her would be the very thing to bring him back to life.
Her eyes opened to the sky. An unfathomable sight bestowed upon her and her cheeks flushed from the light. Her pupils dilated like never before. Lips parted and a gasp escaped as if it had been locked inside of her for a thousand years. She couldn't take her eyes away from the heaven above.
Little did she know, his eyes couldn't leave her. He didn't know what it meant at that moment. What the sky and darkness had done to torment the woman before him. She was a stranger. Someone he didn't know, someone he shouldn't care to know. An enemy to his guild, yet…
He was wonderstruck.
A sky that he had seen a thousand times was nothing to be excited about. It was a part of life. Maybe a sunset could capture his attention, but bright blue? No. However, she looked at it as if a miracle had been performed. As if she had been in a desperate plea to witness a cloudless day.
He could see it all on her face. The smallest gleam in her eye formed and he saw it perfectly. The first spark of a fire coming from embers that had died years before. He knew it all too well. He should have extinguished them. Let himself not be drawn to a promise of something more. But he couldn’t.
He laid on the rooftop watching her amusement to the sky before them. His frown deep and face unsettling. How much pain was she caring? How much suffering did she face to believe that this was a marvel of the world?
Perhaps he was selfish. To take something like the sky granted. Never again would that happen. For the first time, he didn’t think about the pain or the suffering. He didn’t think about how a dark ending could be in the future.
But before the sky showed, his hand had been wrapped with hers. A slip from a puddle and she went to fall off. Her body followed gravity and he saw the painful look on her face. She was going to allow it.
She was willing to die. Willing to let it all go. Like a thread slipping out of its seam, once it starts, you can't stop it.
Maybe that's why he reached out. Because he knew what it was like to be lost in a maze you didn't know you were in. Constantly running from agony and hoping you don't fall further down. There's a bottom that few hit and can't climb out of. He had saw someone who was just as broken.
Perhaps their shattered pieces could mend the others.
The tug of her hand on his brought him into a reality he wasn't sure was real. Her eyes were bright and desperate. Her lips parted with words she couldn't find and just two eyes locked in each other.
She had thought she was a goner.
He thought she was beautiful.
She had believed that the sky was bright but to him, she blinded him.
His own words were lost as he pulled her to safety. He didn't say it then but he didn't want to let her hand go. A warmth that he never experienced flooded his palm. He had been met with fire before but this heat was burning him in a glorious way.
So he stayed on that rooftop much longer than he should have. He took her in. The way her cheeks lifted with her smile and creased her eyes. The way her breath staggered as she kept looking up desperate to memorize the sky in case it left again.
The fear was mutual. He took in the way her hair was curled tightly but slowly was losing its sharpness. Her hat, her doll, her dress, it was all being committed to memory in case they never saw each other again.
Desperate to make sure that this feeling he had was real, he reached out and drew her eyes away from the sky. It felt selfish to do so. The look on her face toward the sky was tender and soft, but the expression didn’t change when she looked at him.
And maybe in a silly way, he thought that fairy tales could be real. That the books that once were read by his mother, were playing out in front of him. That maybe deep down, peace could be found between them. Love at first sight may not be the correct words for him, but there was something new springing to existence when he looked at her.
There was nothing he wanted more than to hold onto this feeling. So when she came through the guild doors with a mark stamped to her thigh, the cigarettes didn’t have the same kick they did anymore. A new fix was found.
He thought that maybe the nights they shared where they slipped away to the forest was enough to cure any injury he faced. Slowly, the disbelief and the cards were showing a new hand and he was willing to bet it all if it meant that he got to hold her close.
For a man who didn’t pay attention to most, he knew what her favorite flower was. How she liked a darker blue compared to bright. How she liked to keep her hair down and secretly loved the rain.
He knew every part of her in a way he didn’t know himself. He knew the touch of her hand on his arm when she laughed. The brush of their fingertips when they walked through town. The source of her smile on a boring day. He knew what songs she hummed in the shower and the imprint of her lips against his.
So for the years that his heart was frozen and trapped, he made up for it by wrapping his arms around her waist and holding her close. For life could slip by all it wanted to, but he would hold onto her forever.
Somehow, his favorite story became theirs. There was something poetic about his happiness being tied to hers. How a woman who could control the rain was also outshining the sun. He admired how a woman who had been feared for so long could turn out to be the kindest person he had ever met.
So maybe Gray didn’t believe in love at first sight, but he believed in Juvia. She was like a new religion that he would dedicate his life to. He would give anything to make sure that the sky was clear and while many thought that he gave her the sky, she had given him the universe.
He had vowed to become the man she deserved. Become the person where the pain doesn’t define him and his strength wasn’t just from his magic. He found himself one day walking up to her just like he always did.
It was quiet at the guild and they were in the garden. She was talking about flowers, something casual. He had felt it. That melody in his heart, just like he did when they first met. The sun was engulfing her in a halo of light and while she talked, she looked perfect.
Slowly, he took her hand. A red flushed her face as his other hand caressed her cheek.
“Gray?” She whispered with eyes wide as the moon.
All he did was smile before he kissed her. It was slow and careful as if he had been thinking about it for months on end. In his dreams, she was always found to the point that the nights would become restless. But right now? The dreams had faded away as he took in the real thing. He liked how he could feel her hand pressed against his chest and her eyelashes against his.
He pulled away and his arm went around her on the back of the bench they were sitting on. Her face bright red as her voice started to go into a ramble.
“Juvia can’t believe-”
A smile tugged at his lips. “Juvia?”
Her voice faltered. “Yes?”
“You make me happy.”
Her own smile took over. She scooted closer to him. “You make Juvia happy too.”
As the months of them together turned to years, the foreign concept of love became his expertise. She became the stars on his map. The sole reason for him to get up. In every aspect of his life, she was there. No matter where they were, he would always reach out to her.
