This conflict resulted in Mexico losing nearly half of its territory to its northern neighbor, forever changing the map of North America. We'll begin by examining the complex historical context that led to the war, including the Texas Revolution, the annexation of Texas by the United States, and the growing tensions between the two nations over territorial disputes.Next, we'll dive into the key battles and turning points of the war, from the initial American victories at Palo Alto and Resaca de la Palma to the crucial campaigns in California and New Mexico. We'll also explore the pivotal role played by figures such as General Zachary Taylor, General Winfield Scott, and Mexican President Antonio López de Santa Anna.As the war progresses, we'll witness the fall of Mexico City and the signing of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo in 1848. This treaty ended the conflict and resulted in Mexico ceding vast portions of its northern territory, including present-day California, Nevada, Utah, and parts of Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, and Wyoming, to the United States. Finally, we'll consider the lasting impact of the Mexican-American War on both nations, from the expansion of U.S. territory and the realization of history.

Honoring my ancestor on this day! Proud Texan! When Antonio López de Santa Anna marched into Texas, Bostick reenlisted, on March 21, 1836, as a private in Capt. Moseley Baker's company of Col. Edward Burleson's First Regiment, Texas Volunteers; he fought in the battle of San Jacinto. A Sion Bostick is also listed as a member of Capt. William H. Patton's Columbia Company at the time of the battle. With two other scouts, Joel Robison and James A. Sylvester, Bostick captured and brought in Santa Anna on April 22. https://tshaonline.org/handbook/online/articles/fbo34 — #battleofbexar #battleofsanjacinto #capturedsantaanna #battleofplumcreek #mexicanwar #hoodstexasbrigade #texasveteransassociation #texasrevolution #jpvarley https://www.instagram.com/p/CN9q_qoHQVsNUAFuxBwEiQep1RXDztOIzqWgVQ0/?igshid=1hwuumoqgig7p
