been wanting to pick up twine again, but since philome.la hosting isn't possible anymore, the only way i can share it is to either figure out how to host on a personal website so it can be read online, host it on itch.io, or have it as a file for people to download and read on their computers.

should i try making a twine interactive fic? on one hand it'll take a lot more effort and be much less accessible than making a linear story on ao3, but on the other....interactive storytelling is fun.

Slightly itchy about this trend for comments on fanfic which go on about 'they're so in character' / 'this feels like part of the canon'. Not that it's necessarily a bad comment, particularly if the author's intent was to actually achieve that outcome, but I keep coming across on fics where....they are absolutely not in character and the story doesn't feel like part of the canon, so...why use that comment?

And the fics are still good fics: the author's usually honing on one angle of the character/s and leaning hard into that to suit the particular narrative they want to tell or the area they want to explore, and the characters are then in character and believable within the context being written, and the story is good, it's really good -> but the trend for this specific comment being applied in situations where it's....not applicable....makes it feel as if fandom has managed to contrive yet another false dichotomy: 'could be canonical' = goodfic and 'anything other than that' = badfic.

It's absolutely a false dichotomy. Some of the fanfics I've read that lasted with me over years and years definitely could not have been canonical. But they played with elements in the canon/characterisation, emphasised some and downplayed others and it made me see the characters in a new light, and the stories were usually diverse and *had* that transformative element, to take an element, appropriate it, transform, replay it back through a different lens or frame, and it resonated, at times in way the canon didn't, and they were just, at the core, really *good* stories.

So it's not as if I dislike receiving those sorts of comments in my current PB series, because I *am* trying to slot things into canon gaps, but these comments have made me more and more nervous the more I get and the more I see how it's applied on other good, yet not 'canonical-type' fics: because it feels like it's not actually making an observation on the fic at hand but rather applying that false trending dichotemy that attempts to moralise different kinds of approach to fanfic as better than others.

He had done his best.

But like anyone in his situation, seeing his child in danger...he may have panicked a little more than necessary- alright. He lost it. Just a bit.- He'd just finished up picking up some soda for the fridge (note: to celebrate his son deciding to begin training to attend U. A.), when a villain had attacked. It wasn't anything grand- anything out of the ordinary.

He'd been bogged down by life- by the whole 'save' day in and day out, the duality of his existence. Ever since the 'accident', he'd been forced to remain home more...which wasn't all that bad. He had the green-haired kid's smiling face to come home to, though sometimes he'd seen tears...he tried his best- he always tried his best- but he was pulling apart at the seams.

Work, work, work, work...it had consumed him, most of the kid's life...but he still did his best, tried to be there...and now, tracking that sludge villain, he'd seen something he'd never hoped to see as a father.

His son, being suffocated by a villain.

Perhaps he'd put too much force behind his punch, perhaps Midoriya was just on the edge of consciousness- whatever the case, it didn't matter. He'd gathered the sludge villain into the soda bottles (after emptying them, sorry son...)- and turned his attention towards the KO'd kid.

Wake up wake up wake up wake up wake up,--- and now here he was, gently slapping Izuku's cheek, praying to the stars that the boy's eyes would open. He'd even taken the time to sign Midoriya's notebook- the thirteenth in a long line of notebooks that he'd watched the kid develop over the years... That he'd helped with, on occasion. But even as 'All Might's personal assistant', he'd never managed to find a good time to snag the notebook so 'All Might' could sign it- so when the opportunity presented itself to make the kid's day...he hadn't been able to resist.

Finally, seeing those green eyes flicker back to consciousness, he pulled his hand back- smiling that big smile, though it may have been a hint bigger, at the moment. His wrists were covered by white bands- he was glad he'd thought to wear them today, otherwise the dots may have been connected.

"Ahah! Thought we lost you, there!" He had to stop himself from hugging Midoriya. I'm All Might, he had to remind himself- I'm All Might. Though he knew, once he 'got home from work', he'd be pulling the kid into a hug- explanation be damned. "Glad to see you're alright, kid!"

you know when russia invaded ukraine i recall all these artists on my dashboard and all these people were sharing links on donations and raising funds for ukraine, reblogging the flag and being so SO vocal about who was right and who was wrong.

Today, I am one of a handful on my dashboard who shares any content about Palestine. Those who share either do so consistently or every now and then, but I hope those of you who are totally silent are at least vocal in your daily life.
