Day Four

So taking a moment to pivot away from a narrative and introduce the cast of this AU. I didn't do that persay for the Desmond's Birthday Month AU story, but I did do a post on what each of the cast was called by Des' adopted sons.

Major Characters

Kayana Al-Naar: Desmond's Mother. She is the last deceantant of Altaïr ibn-La'Ahad before Desmond is born. She is a healer, a scholar and and overall badass of an assassin. She fell for Haytham Kenway because he was someone she trusted.

Haytham Kenway: Desmond's father in this AU. He is still a Templar but doesn't associate with Abestrgo because he feels they are doing what the assassins did in the 9-12 centuries and are open about what they are doing. Even if it isn't true he can not stomach kidnapping and experimentation on unwilling subjects.

Desmond "Darius" Kenway: son of Kayana and Haytham, he is still the "chosen one" but he only has Altaïr ibn-La'Ahad and Ezio Auditore da Frenze as his ancestors which is bound to make things intriguing in the end.

Shay Patrick Cormac: A young man who is also a Templar who becomes Desmond's friend and lover once he leaves the farm. This guy is his greatest rock.

William Miles: the global mentor and an asshole to say the least. He will stop at nothing to further his cult. Yes it's a cult he is leading at the farm.

Clay Kazmarek: Subject 16 who actually holds on this time and is able to be rescued from Abestrgo when Shay comes to rescue Desmond. After some rehab from the torture, Clay devotes him self to the Templar cause.

Edward James Kenway: Haytham's Jack of all trades father, who has surprisingly settled on being a Templar like his son. He's always been supportive of him and both his grandsons Connor and Desmond. Though Desmond really enjoys spending time with him and his wife Tessa.

Connor Kenway: Son of Ziio and Haytham. Desmond's older half brother he has stayed the course as an assassin however he still loves his father and grandfather despite them remaining as Templars.

Charles Lee: this crazy psychopath is somehow Haytham's most trusted man? Regardless he's useful though he has to be reminded to keep his hands off Desmond and Conner lest Haytham himself drives his blade through his throat.

Christopher Gist: okay admittedly he's a new character for me to be playing with but I included him as a major Character cause he knows Shay and is pretty close with him. Being friends with him and later on Desmond.

Minor characters:

Not so much individual characters listed but the Rites they belong to.

American Rite: the remaining members of the Colonial Rite of AC3. Plus any new faces, like Clay Kazmarek.

Italian Rite: the Templars of Ezio's Era. This is divided into three regions.

Florence Regional Rite: Ulberto, The Pazzi, and anyone Ezio killed in or around Florence.

Venice Regional Rite: any Templars Ezio killed in Venice or in Forli such as the Orsi Brothers.

Rome Regional Rite: Rodrigo Borgia, Cesere Borgia, the other Borgia, and other Templars Ezio killed while in Rome.

The French Rite: Mainly Fransoue De' Sare's Rite but there is a sub rite stationed in Lavent.

Lavant Regional Rite: Robert De Sable and his Templars. They work with another local rite.

Istanbul Rite: the Templars of AC Revelations.

The Rite of Raiders: This is a modern catch all considering that there are so far two regional rites involved here.

Norway Rite: Kjotve the Cruel and the Order of the Ancients in Norway, England and a little bit of New York.

High seas Rite: pirates, privateers and other sea worthy scoundrels that were Templars.

Levant Brotherhood: Altaïr ibn-La'Ahad and others of his era, along with assisting Roshan ibm-La'Ahad of Alamut, Yusuf Tazim of Istanbul, and reaching as far south as Bayek and Aya in Alexandria.

Italian Brotherhood: Ezio Auditore and other assassins covering the same three regions as the Templars with the addition of Montriggorni. The Templars have asked to use Montriggorni as neutral ground when meeting with the assassins.

So in addition to re-watching Forever Knight, I'm also watching Highlander: The Series again. They're basically companion shows because they were on TV at about the same time and address many of the same themes, in addition to both being urban fantasies. Their fandoms were also populated by many of the same people.

I was hugely into Highlander for years and wrote fanfic and was in the fandom and was basically crazy for it, mostly because of Methos, the oldest immortal, but I was also watching it in a time pre-You Tube, pre-torrents, pre-everything. We all taped our favourite eps from tv, but most of us didn't tape the complete shows because that just wasn't feasible in terms of time, space, etc. But obviously at least a few people did, because the shows are online now even though they were never released on DVD (edit: FK was released much later, but as far as I know HL was not).

Anyway, one of the peculiar things about watching Highlander in the late nineties was that, although the show had just finished its original run, for some kind of licensing reason that was never entirely clear to me at the time, season one was never played in Canada. It might have originally been, but every replay of the show started with season 2, and I came in right around the time the show was wrapping up or just slightly after, so I never actually saw season one. This was frustrating to me, but since my favourite characters all come in after season 2 starts I didn't get too worked up about it or go to great lengths to view it. But it was a kind of itch that was was never scratched.

Fast-forward to 2022 and I found HL online, the complete series, including season one. I'm actually enjoying it a lot. MacLeod is a lot less of a pain in the ass, quite a bit more relaxed and less sanctimonious, not to mention not quite so 1 BILLION XP INVINCIBLE. Tessa is actually a lovely character. And Richie is very funny in his younger incarnation, with a lot of his rough edges still there.

The show itself still has some rough edges too, as the writers worked out exactly what the mythos was going to be. For example, the Gathering appears to be happening at the beginning of the show, and MacLeod is convinced that no immortal has long left to live, but that convinction appears to have faded even by season two, since it isn't mentioned again, to my recollection.

But my biggest surprise has been Darius, because Darius is a lot like Methos. He's a priest and Methos isn't, but Methos is a researcher hiding in a secret organization, which is quite similar. Darius, like Methos, is a very old man with a young face, not to mention a former warlord who converts to peace (via Light Quickening, which is very interesting, and I do wonder if that's why Duncan is quicker to forgive Darius his past than he was Methos, because Darius is in some ways an entirely different person, while Methos changed the hard way. That actually makes it more commendable, but the blame still belongs to him as well, and you know Duncan...).

Additionally, Darius is a mentor who can predict Duncan's failings before they happen (although less openly cynical than Methos, he clearly understands the way of the world) exactly as happens on multiple occasions with Methos. Both are people that Duncan looks up to and respects intensely. The only thing missing in the Duncan-Darius relationship is the more casual element of friendship (Methos works very hard to dispel Mac's initial awe, which really backfires later), and that homoerotic tension that was always present between MacLeod and Methos, but other than that... I get the feeling that the show was missing a mentor for Duncan and Methos fit the bill. But while he was clearly conceived as a Darius-remix, Methos is a lot more fun, and seemingly far more of a chameleon than Darius was, in terms of how much he changed over the centuries, as well as a kind of fluid gender identity that was never clearly stated but which was easy to perceive. And because of the nature of his own paradigm shift, which was not a supernatural event, you can still see many elements of darkness in Methos that are seemingly absent in Darius.

Camila Mendosa- single mother of two. technically classified as a villain holder in teh group (I was trying to get a holder in every continent, and the villains needed more ranks theyre were lacking) but she mostly is a free spirit who uses the miraculous to get what she cant as a civilian to care for her children and get some much needed free time. She was never entered to teh group and was only concept with the orca miraculous

Thi Hanh Mai- also a villain (for like teh exact same reason Camila was, was trying to get more villains and also a kid in every continent), shes a mechanic and i didnt realise till after that her villain name should have totally been “Grease Monkey” because she has a Tonkin monkey mriaculous lol. Also not very fleshed out but she was also v chaotic as a villain and out for fun not harm :))  She was never entered to teh group and was only concept. 

Darius Andris- Was actually in teh group for a while! originally my third kid! problem was i like, overly fleshed him out and he was just a really simple guy so i never got much rp opportunity, he was kinda boring :// so i retired him. he didnt have much going on hah

Odile Vasilev- swan lake ballet villain!! She was also in teh group for a while! the 4th kid to enter, she was taken out before darius tho as i wasnt vibing much with her and didnt use her a lot. She’s the meanest villain i ever made tho the rest r just chaotic babes lol

Kadri Binici- he just wanted a frog. He got a miraculous and the whole concept was just villain boy that steals frogs and otehr lizards n stuff from pet shops n stuff because he really wanted one lol.  He never made it to the group but i do adore him. he was my original attempt at getting a kin in the Asian continent, before Mai. (Theres roles for the continents since tahts how teams r seperated so  i wanna try and get all the roles lol. He was gonna be in the Asia half of Turkey i think was my try :))

Blaine O’Sullivan- soft lad who hoenstly if i used would have ended up enby i think taht vibes better.  never entere,d super underdeveloped, just puppy lad lol :))
