Solar Opposites: Ultra Opposites The Movie Ch. 7 (from @avaveevo)
Tumblr media
Phoebe is making dinner.
Phoebe MacCarthy: *humming* Okay, this prime rib is almost done.
Korvo: Good to hear.
Phoebe MacCarthy: I’m glad Yumyulack is feeling better.
Korvo: Me too.
Phoebe MacCarthy: *getting the fries out of the frier* So, how how was your new superhero career?
Korvo: It's honestly stressful...the constant calls, the damn villains. It's just too much pressure.
Korvo sighs but then smiles while looking lovingly at Terry.
Korvo: But it's all worth it...
Phoebe MacCarthy: That’s nice. Bit surprised that Jesse hasn’t been using her powers lately.
Jesse is suddenly heard screaming with rage offscreen
Korvo: Uh oh.
Yumyulack: Uh, we have a bit of a problem.
Korvo and Yumyulack run to the Replicants' bedroom
Korvo: Jesse?
Jesse: GO AWAY!
Yumyulack and Korvo yelp a little, which made them concern because they’ve never seen Jesse like this before.
Yumyulack: Jesse, are you all right?
Korvo: Why are you so upset?
Jesse: MY POWERS ARE DRIVING ME CRAZY! THAT'S WHY!
Korvo: They are?
Jesse: YES! NOW FUCK OFF! *explodes with electricity that knock out Korvo*
Korvo groans as he wakes up and he began to grow concern about Jesse. So did Yumyulack.
Yumyulack: Jesse! Calm down!
Jesse then breaks down in tears after she realized in horror that she knocked out Korvo.
Jesse: Korvo, I'm so sorry! Are you okay?!
Korvo: Why yes. *then notices Jesse crying* Oh honey what’s wrong?
Jesse: I didn't mean to hurt you! I was just stressed and-
Korvo hugs Jesse as he gives her a cooldown hug
Korvo: It's okay. I know you didn't want to do it.
Jesse: *sniffles* Korvo, I’m scared.
Korvo: I am too, Jesse. I am too...
Jesse: You are? Why?
Korvo starts weeping
Korvo: *weeping* Because I don’t want this sweet little girl of mine to get hurt. You are three of most precious little things I ever have Jesse. We’ll find a way to control your powers. I promise. Because, I love you Jesse.
Jesse smiles
Jesse: Come here you big lug.
Jesse pulls Korvo in a hug
Yumyulack: *touched by this moment* D’aw.
Jesse: So, should I start training?
Korvo: Hmm? Great idea!
This next scene is like the Super Mario training course scene
Korvo: Okay. You ready for this Jesse? Watch me!
Korvo turns into Legendary Super Shlorpian
Jesse: Whoa.
Legendary Super Shlorpian then does the training course. He leaps up and kicks a dummy. Then, he slides through a slide course and finally he made it the flag as he slides down and does another super hero stance.
Jesse: Woah. That was awesome!
Korvo/Legendary Super Shlorpian: Now it’s your turn. Let’s see what you get!
Jesse: Okay.
Jesse then starts the training course. There was some bump in the roads like giant fake fish, trap doors and giant torpedos. But luckily, Jesse got better and better as she grins. Legendary Super Shlorpian grows amazed as he watches his daughter do amazing. The montage ends as Jesse sits down.
Jesse: Geez. That was stressful...
Korvo/Legendary Super Shlorpian: I think you did so well.
Jesse: You think so?
Korvo/Legendary Super Shlorpian: I know so.
Jesse: But I failed some of the tests.
Korvo/Legendary Super Shlorpian: Well, no one gets it right away.
Jesse: How many times did it take you?
Korvo/Legendary Super Shlorpian: Let’s just say a lot ever since I became L.S.S.
Jesse smirks
Jesse: You got it right away, didn't you?
Korvo/Legendary Super Shlorpian: I got it right away...
Jesse: Okay. Now you’re saying that to make me feel better…
Korvo/Legendary Super Shlorpian: What? No! No. Is it working?
Jesse: A little bit yeah.
Legendary Super Shlorpian chuckles. The scene then cuts to Jesse looking at the sky.
Jesse: These powers are kinda cool. I wish I had a super suit though...
Jesse then looks at the city as she sighs.
Jesse: What am I gonna do?
Suddenly, Jesse sees smoke coming from downtown.
Jesse: What the?
Jesse then thinks about what Korvo said to her earlier and gains courage as she rushes towards the city.
Jesse: Let's do this!
Jesse went to the city and gasped upon seeing the destruction. She then sees a new villain. Iron Knuckle.
Iron Knuckles: *laughs evilly* I am Iron Knuckles. I told you I would be back!
Jesse gasps and growls
Iron Knuckle: Now watch me demonstrate my powers!
Jesse: HEY!
Iron Knuckle turns around laughs upon seeing Jesse.
Iron Knuckle: Who's this little brat? Run along, kid. I have a score to settle here!
Jesse growls as sparks appear around her body.
Jesse: I'm not some kid! I'm Jesse and I'm here to take you out!
Iron Knuckle: *laughs* A little girl dares to fight me? *laughs evilly*
Jesse roars in anger as she lets out a huge electric explosion. Terry, Korvo and Yumyulack sees it as they gasp and transforms into their superhero forms to find out what happened.
Iron Knuckle: What the hell?!
Terry/Solar Flare: JESSE?!
Jesse emerges in her own super suit. As the explosion settles, Jesse then appears in her own superhero suit.
Yumyulack/Psylock: Holy shit. Jesse?!
Jesse/Electra: Call me Electra!
Electra does her own superhero pose as she flies and prepares to fight Iron Kunckle.
Iron Knuckle: You think some little girl is gonna stop me?! *laughs* Pathetic!
Electra growls and suddenly summons an electric wrecking ball as she swings around while channeling her anger and swinging at Iron Knuckle, which hits him to the wall.
Jesse/Electra: Take that, sucker! *does the L with her fingers*
Korvo/Legendary Super Shlorpian: That’s our girl!
The police appears
Police Officer: Iron Knuckle, you are under arrest for the near-destruction of our city.
Iron Knuckle is taken away as Electra looks down at her super suit
Jesse/Electra: Wow. My suit look amazing.
Korvo/Legendary Super Shlorpian: I'm so proud of you, sweetheart.
Jesse/Electra: Thanks Korvo.
Solar Flare gets a phone call from Janiz
Terry/Solar Flare: *picks up the call* Hello Janiz?
Janiz: Come home now! I got something to show you!
Terry/Solar Flare: On it! *hangs up the phone* Come on guys, Janiz needs to show us something!
Back at the Solars' house
Jesse/Electra: Aunti Janiz! What is it?! What is it that you want to show us?!
Yumyulack/Psylock: What is it?!
Janiz gets out her book and flips to the Mundane page
Terry/Solar Flare: Whoa. What kind of monster is that?!
Janiz: A Mundane. It is a creature made of the suicidal thoughts of a Shlorpian.
Korvo/Legendary Super Shlorpian: Suicidal?
Janiz sighs.
Janiz: I’m afraid so… it happened years ago after Koran become half Super Shlorpian….
The scene then shifts over to years ago when an ancestor who looks exactly like Terry but with lighter green skin walking by with a painful lava rock scabbed leg, that spews a bit of lava. Some Shlorpians starts taunting him behind his back.
Janiz: *voiceover* A sickness came to town. *a grey purple Shlorpian hits the Shlorpian in taunt* A young Shlorpian was infected with some kind of illness. *the Shlorpian runs off in tears after being overwhelmed too much and sits on the edge of a cliff in tears* the Shlorpians would always taunt him before and after the illness spreaded to him…
The Shlorpian stands up and prepares to jump off
Janiz: *voiceover* As soon as he headed towards the cliff, he fell… feel like he has nothing to live anymore… *the Shlorpian falls* until, Koran came…
Koran, in his Super Shlorpian form, flies up and saves the Shlorpian
Janiz: *voiceover* Koran senses his depression. And saved him. *Koran then puts the Shlorpian down and then notices the Shlorpian’s illness on his leg* He realized that the Shlorpian needed a new lifesource. So he gave it to him that cured his illness
Koran fixes the Shlorpian's leg
Janiz: *voiceover* With some kind of healing magic, the Shlorpian was granted a new life.
The Shlorpian's skin suddenly turns black
Janiz: *voiceover* The Shlorpian silently thank Koran for healing him. *the Shlorpian hugs Koran, who flies off. But when the Shlorpian got back others continue to taunt him* But tragically this caused the overwhelming thoughts to make him reach his breaking point.
The Shlorpian snaps as grows bigger and muscular as he roars in rage and kills the Shlorpians
Janiz: *voiceover* The rage and overwhelming thoughts has turn him into a monster… a creature so unimaginable enraged… the Mundane…
The flashback ends as Janiz closes the book
Janiz: Afterwards, he manage to find love. But a year after they wed, the DNA was passed onto their Replicants, who passed it onto theirs. We don’t know who inherited now, which is why I wanted to tell you guys about.
Jesse/Electra: Hmm. You know, I think I saw a Mundane once.
All: Huh?!
Yumyulack/Psylock: You did? Since when?
Jesse/Electra: When I was a baby.
Korvo/Legendary Super Shlorpian: Y-you did?
Yumyulack/Psylock: What happened?!
Jesse/Electra: Yep. I don't remember much though.
Terry/Solar Flare: What do you mean Jesse-bear?
Jesse/Electra: I guess I was just too young to remember it at the time. Anyway, I'm hungry. Can we get something to eat.
Terry/Solar Flare: Well can at least time some parts you remember?
Jesse/Electra: Well, I was crying and Terry suddenly disappeared…
A flashback begins with baby Jesse crying.
Jesse: *voiceover* Then I saw this huge monster!
Baby Jesse continues crying once a Mudane with a familiar face and glowing orange eyes came and pick her up. Baby Jesse starts wailing louder upon seeing it but then the Mundane suddenly starts soothing her. Baby Jesse stops crying and falls to sleep as the flashback ends.
Jesse/Electra: It was so weird. He ended up soothing me to sleep.
Terry/Solar Flare: Well, I'm sure he did the right thing.
Jesse/Electra: Yeah. Though he did look familiar… oh well…
Janiz looks at Solar Flare who is silently crying
Janiz: Terry, what’s wrong?
Terry/Solar Flare: Uh, nothing. *wipes away his tears* I'm fine.
Korvo/Legendary Super Shlorpian: You sure honey? Did that story really worked you up?
Terry/Solar Flare: I SAID I'M FINE, OKAY?! FUCK! I NEED SOME TIME ALONE!
Solar Flare transforms back and leaves. Legendary Super Shlorpian began to grow concern as he runs off to comfort Terry. Legendary Super Shlorpian then transforms back and opens the door and sees Terry crying.
Korvo: Terry? Are you in there?
Terry sniffles in response. Cue the heartwarming scene from the invisibility episode.
Korvo: I’m sorry this story stressed you out. I guess I feel something broken in you that a ray can’t fix. You can tell me.
Terry: You wanna know why I snapped back there?
Korvo: Hmm… I guess it was because of how much that Shlorpian went through so much.
Terry laughs.
Terry: Yeah.
Korvo: But can you please tell me why? *Terry sighs in response*
Terry: It's just...I used to become this...monster...a creature I can't control.
Korvo: You did? *sniffles* Oh I’m sorry if you did Terry.
Terry: Don't be. You weren't there anyway. I was fronting and stunting.
Korvo: Really?
Terry nods
Korvo: You know, you did got me sexy with your new role as Solar Flare.
Terry: What about when I use my fire powers?
Korvo: Drives… me… wild.
Terry: Korvo, take your goddamn clothes off.
Korvo: You don’t have to tell me twice.
The husbands kiss and moan as they remove their clothes
Korvo: Brace yourself! I saw this technique in a movie.
Terry: Oooh! Do it as we cut away!
Meanwhile in the wall, the mysterious figure is talking to the Bowinian Prophet
Bowinian Prophet: Wh-what do you mean by that?!
???: I know it's hard to believe but it must be done. You understand, right?
Bowinian Prophet: But this isn’t right. I learn that.
???: I know. But it has to be done. Just help us...Nova.
Nova: No. No I won’t.
Nova stands up and leaves as the mysterious figure sighs with dismay.
Nova: *turns to the figure* I hurted someone who was a hero, and I won’t do that again. I let myself turn into someone I am not to the dark side, and that cost me two friends. I refuse to follow the same mistake I made once. The Wall AIs better than ever without corruption. And I will never help a horrible person like you. I’m leaving…
Nova leaves.
Mysterious Figure: *snarls*

KarateKels Story Masterlist
Hi everyone! I’ve decided to (finally) get my act together and make a masterlist post for all the requests/stories I’ve done so far. I’m going first by character, then adding Dark Desires October and TIGmas posts for if you’re looking for a ~vibe~. Links that have a * indicate the presence of smut, for if you just want to get to the good stuff! 😉
(I'll be going through these posts and updating them slowly when I can't bring myself to write, so if you see anything that needs fixing or you want to suggest ways to make this... less of a clusterfuck, please feel free to let me know!)

Note: I am taking requests, but seeing that some of them are around a year old at this point, note that it may be awhile! I'm not planning on starting any of my own projects or theme-months until I clear out most of what I have, and thank you all for your patience!

Cash Ewing (Black Friday/The Kidnapping):
Disorderly Conduct: Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4* | Part 5 | Part 6
A dark, tragic fic. Reader is a cop who has been working at the same precinct as Cash for awhile, and gets the vibe that something is... off. Trusting her instinct, she follows him to an abandoned building one day and catches him in the act. Unfortunately, he also catches her, and keeps her as a hostage while he tries to figure out his next move. (Takes place before events of the movie)
Person of Interest: Part 1*
You and a friend attend your precinct's Christmas party; the first time you'll be seeing your coworkers since you went undercover almost a year ago. Rather than the happy reunion with your partner and friend Cash, he seems anything but happy to see you. Locked in the basement together, you call Cash out on his BS and finally confront him about his feelings and your own.
Jan Valek (Vampires):
Heirloom: Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4 | Part 5 | Part 6*
An enemies to lovers fic with Jan Valek. Reader is Jack Crow's daughter and a vamp-hunter-in-training. When Valek attacks the old Catholic school where the Black Cross of Berziers is kept and discovers his nemesis’s daughter, he kidnaps her in hopes of using her to lure him out but finds himself falling for her instead.
Saturnalia: Part 1*
Valek catches your scent on the wind and plans to feed on you, but after a single conversation with you can’t bring himself to commit such an act. Instead, he plans to find you at your friend's Winter Solstice Masquerade to be close to you, even just for the night.
Solar Flare: Part 1 | In Progress...
As vampires become a growing problem and the number of Slayers dwindles, the Catholic Church decides to perform another ‘miracle’, attempting to create a weapon that will be able to find the despicable creatures in any and all shadows that they may hide. Similarly to the botched exorcism of Jan Valek, the experimental ceremony that Rose Hanlon undergoes doesn’t go exactly as intended, and she escapes the city with a set of abilities she doesn’t even understand.
Gus Travis (Black Point):
In Deep Water: Part 1 | Part 2* | Part 3*
A dark non-con with Gus Travis. Reader is an undercover cop who has gotten in with Gus's gang to get the dirt on him and Malcolm’s crime ring. Gus gets wind of your deception and decides to punish you - for lying, for making him fall for you, for everything.
Terry McCain (Excessive Force):
Yule-Tied: Part 1* | To be continued…
You manage to get Terry to swear off work for a whole week to come with you to visit your family in New York City for the holidays. He has (unsurprisingly) charmed his way into everyone’s good books, so you decide to reward him with an early Christmas present when you get back to your hotel room the night before Christmas Eve.
Jack Blaylock (Ulterior Motives):
Coming soon…
The TIGverse (stories with more than one TIG character):
The NSFW Alphabet: Part 1* | Part 2*
A character study for both KK3 Terry and CK Terry. (I want to do more requests like these, so feel free to send in requests for my thoughts/opinions rather than full on stories if you want!)
A Tale of Two Terrys: Part 1* | To be continued…
(KK3 Terry x Reader x CK Terry) You and your husband (CK Terry) are somehow joined in bed by his younger self, who had been wondering how his future would turn out. Initially protective, your husband talks you into letting his younger self have his way with you before joining in himself.
Mediation: Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4 | Part 5* | Part 6* | Part 7 | Part 8 | Part 9* | To be continued…
(Terry McCain x Reader x Cash Ewing) You are assigned as Terry McCain’s new partner after his previous partner – Cash Ewing – goes to prison for the crimes he has committed. Cash returns to Chicago years later, after his release and rehabilitation, and while he can’t be a cop anymore, he wants to make amends to those he has disappointed with his actions, most of all his former close friend Terry. Terry isn’t receptive to Cash’s attempts at reconciliation, and warns you to stay away from him, having grown very protective of his “work wife.” But you find something of a kindred spirit in Cash and want to help him get a second chance at life, deciding to do what you can to support the man and bring the two friends back together.

December – New Orleans, 2015
Will had thought that his uniform would stand out amid the splendor of the gala, but as he waded through the glitterati, brushing past old money debutantes in shimmery dresses and NFL players in their tuxedos, nobody paid him any mind. There were plenty of off-duty cops here working security, some of whom he knew and nodded to as he passed. Gotta earn some extra cash for the holidays.
The ballroom was decorated in white and gold, the walls covered with cascading lengths of Christmas lights softened by gauzy wall hangings. A brass band played jazzy Christmas fare and couples danced on the shining wooden floor, while other guests socialized at cafe tables or small gathering areas with chairs and sofas. The banquet table supported a massive spread, its centerpiece an ice sculpture depicting a stylized ocean wave dyed green, symbolizing Tulane’s mascot.
Will scanned the crowd with a policeman’s focus, his eyes trained by many nights on the Quarter or working Mardi Gras. He wasn’t out on patrol much anymore. It’d been at least four years, in fact, but he was surprised how quickly the old instincts returned.
He would have thought it difficult to locate one man in a tuxedo in a crowd where everyone was wearing the same black tie, but it wasn’t. Hannibal stood at a cafe table, champagne in hand, surrounded by five or six hangers-on fixated on every word coming out of his mouth. The most besotted of the groupies was Hannibal’s research assistant, Randall Tier, who gazed up at him with shining eyes that caught the holiday lights, the reflections making physical the shining adoration they exuded. The others were potential donors to the neuroscience program and Hannibal had them eating out of his hand as he described their most recent research study.
“Survival requires the selection of appropriate behavior in response to threats. When given the choice between fight, flight, freeze, and fawn, one’s chances are improved by the brain selecting the response with the highest chance of success, and quickly, too. Dysregulated defensive reactions are associated with psychiatric illnesses – PTSD, panic disorders. Threat-induced behaviors are controlled by neuronal circuits in the central amygdala. However, the source of neuronal excitation is unknown, and so our team set out to discover the source.”
“All right, Doctor Lecter, in English, please!” one of the men in the circle laughed, the others joining in.
“If we can isolate the origin for these brain signals that insist there is a lion in the room when there is no lion, we can more effectively treat post-traumatic stress disorder and those who suffer from anxiety and panic attacks,” Hannibal clarified, setting down his empty champagne flute. Randall scurried off to get him another. “And that, my friends, is the essence of the work we do.”
“I just think that is so important, y’know?” a woman with shoulder pads and a blonde bouffant hairdo said, laying a long-nailed hand on Hannibal’s forearm. “My cousin Arlene, she gets these awful panic attacks every time the lawn company comes to mow the yard at her house, or the pool guy comes by…”
“Dr. Lecter.” All eyes turned to Will as he broke into the circle, gazes traveling over his uniform and the gun strapped to his belt.
Hannibal’s face shifted, a crack formed in his finely crafted mask of charm, betraying a hint of resentful vexation. It only lasted a moment before smoothing into something mild and blank, as if they were acquaintances only and the light of friendship wouldn’t reach them for a million years, much less the solar flare of passion. “Detective Graham. How unexpected to see you here. Allow me to introduce you – this is Fred Moncus and his wife Terri…”
Will suffered through the round of introductions, forcing himself to make eye contact, smiling, even. He was familiar with many of the names – part of the job, knowing who the power players were in New Orleans and state at large. He was surprised to see Lydia Antoine out tonight, considering her brother had been arrested three days ago for the attempted murder of a sex worker. Jed Antoine had lost an eye to a stiletto heel in the altercation, which Will felt was deserved, to say the least. Of course, he’d never comment on an active investigation.
And he needed to be on his best behavior. Hannibal wasn’t happy with him at the moment, and there was no reason to fuck things up further by being a rude little gremlin. Showing up in uniform was bad enough.
“So, Officer Graham.” The state senator who addressed him had a drawl that teased out his name, gray-yam. “How do you know our good Dr. Lecter here?”
         “Detective,” Will corrected coolly.
“We met during the Adams murder case last year,” Hannibal supplied, quickly enough, Will thought, so that he didn’t get a chance to say anything.
“Oh, that whole business was just awful,” Arlene’s cousin said with an emphatic shake of her bouffant and another touch of Hannibal’s arm. “I’m so glad you were able to help catch him.”
“Detective Graham solved it. I merely assisted.”
“Oh, you’re that guy!” the senator exclaimed. “Hold on, hey!” he shouted to one of the event’s roving photographers. “Can I get a picture with you?” he asked Will.
“I need to speak with Dr. Lecter,” Will insisted, adopting his cop voice.
The senator looked like he wanted to protest, but Hannibal interjected, cutting through the circle. “This way, Detective,” he suggested, indicating a small side hallway where caterers marched in and out of the kitchen with loaded or empty trays.
Will kept quiet, pausing only when Hannibal was trapped into shaking someone’s hand or saying a few words, lassoed by politeness. Even as he smiled and danced the dance of social grace, Will’s empathy pulse told him that Hannibal was displeased. Angry, even. Will tried to prepare for the conversation they’d have once they were alone, but he kept getting distracted by the shocking difference in the way Hannibal’s tuxedo fit him compared to the men who hadn’t worn theirs in so long they no longer fit, or who had rented one for the night. Hannibal looked at home in a tux, like James Bond or some shit. Elegant, but with a license to kill. A license Will gave him, anyhow.
Distracting, how his ass looked in the bespoke trousers, the way the cummerbund circled his waist, drawing the fabric tight against his middle, emphasizing the T of his shoulders and the sexy, meaty curves of his pecs that often popped the button on his dress shirts if he moved too much or too quickly. Will had seen that happen in a variety of contexts and it delighted him every time.
At last, they disentangled from the glamorous crowd, and passed into the utilitarian hallway, where the sound of clanking plates and cooks and servers yelling at each other replaced the jazz rendition of “O Christmas Tree.” Around a corner was the door to a utility room with a sign that said employees only, along with a staff bathroom and water fountain, and a custodial closet. At the moment, it was deserted.
Will paused to radio in, then turned down the volume almost entirely to cut the chatter in the quiet space. Then, he faced the wrath of Dr. Hannibal Lecter.
“May I ask why you’ve come?” These six words, so polite and benign, were wrapped in razor wire coming from those princely lips.
“Merry Christmas to you, too,” Will snarked, a reflex. He knew he was in the wrong, but it still made him defensive.
“Left your patrol to wish me a happy holiday, then?” Hannibal cocked his head, eyes maroon murder, voice like ice-brittle velvet. “Surely the force is short-staffed. Some bad math with you, Detective Graham.”
“I didn’t like how things ended between us this morning.”
         “Our discussion?”
“Yeah,” Will said, biting the inside of his cheek.
“It wasn’t a discussion. It was you informing me that you’d volunteered for a patrol shift that wasn’t assigned to you and is beneath your rank, despite our previous agreement to attend this event.”
“And I told you why,” Will returned, trying to keep his voice even. “I don’t like being paraded around in front of rich assholes hoping that they’ll donate to Tulane just because you worked with me to catch a murderer. Much more, ah, exciting, isn’t it, to talk about working a murder case, than, ah… complicated neuroscience? Easier for the yachts-and-botox crowd to understand, anyway.”
“But you’d agreed a month ago to attend.”
“Manelli called in sick, Bernard and O’Toole pulled a double yesterday, and Williams got his ex to let him have his son for the weekend,” Will revealed. “And I… wanted to help.”
         “How convenient.”
“It was,” Will admitted, rubbing his hand over his face and wiping a sheen of sweat from his brow. Hot back here by the kitchen.
And hot under his uniform. The way Hannibal stood, perfectly still, his cheekbones casting dagger shadows in the unadorned lighting, like he was a hair’s breadth away from violence, was… fucking sexy. It felt like the breathless moment right before a leopard struck, the creature going preternaturally motionless in the tall grass before leaping upon its unsuspecting prey. Will realized he didn’t have the good sense to feel mortal fear.
“And yet, here you are,” Hannibal said, just above a whisper. “Barging in with your uniform and your gun.”
Despite his instincts of self-preservation, Will took a step closer. His right hand was of two minds – unsnap the holster of his gun and feel the reassuring bulk of deadly metal or touch his lover’s face. Indecision left it hanging at his side. “You,” he said, breath a sultry hiss, “are… so fucking beautiful like this.”
The short silence after his confession could have easily been followed by having his throat slashed, but Will’s luck held out. Hannibal’s lips curled gently at the corners; a prince pleased with a peasant’s pluck.
Both of them glanced down the hall at the busy kitchen door. Will stepped over to the wall and tried the handle of the custodial closet. Not locked. The space was small of course, lined with shelves of products, but the floor was clear, with a concrete sink built right into the wall for rinsing mops.
He’d planned to step back out and say something to Hannibal, to coax him inside, but didn’t get the chance. Hannibal took him by the collar of his uniform shirt and his thick black duty rig and pushed him into the small space, closing the door behind them. Will’s first instinct was to resist, but he wrestled it back and let Hannibal manhandle him, pushing him against the back of the door to kiss him, knocking his hat to the ground and pulling his hair. Will groped along the fine fabric of his tuxedo, slipping his hands along the silky cummerbund and relishing the feel of his waist encased within, then helped himself to a handful of ass.
“That was, ah… our f-first fight,” Will panted as Hannibal tongued along his throat.
“Won’t be the last,” Hannibal growled in his ear.
“I’m sorry,” Will breathed, taking Hannibal’s face between his hands to arrest his devouring, at least for the moment. “I came here to say I’m sorry.”
“By all means.”
Will’s mouth curved up in a mischievous smirk. “Actions speak louder than words.”
“Certainly.”
Will switched their positions, quickly enough that Hannibal’s back rattled the door on its hinges. “Don’t move.”
“Who am I to resist arrest?” The coiled pressure of Hannibal’s anger was still woven in his words, beneath layers of gentility and clinical mildness. He reached over and flipped on the light switch, bringing a dim bulb in the ceiling to life.
Will undid his rig and draped the black belt full of danger and authority on a shelf of toilet paper rolls, unclipping his radio from his shoulder. Hannibal yanked him forward by his shirt again for a kiss, capturing his lower lip between his teeth and drawing it out slowly when he was finished with it. “Just how contrite are you?” Hannibal whispered against his swollen mouth.
“Very.” Will slowly knelt, dragging his hands along Hannibal’s body as he went, then pushed up his cummerbund enough to open his trousers.
Hannibal caught his chin and tilted his head up to meet his gaze, dark eyes glittering in the dirty light thrown by the old bulb. “Beg.”
Will slipped his hand between Hannibal’s legs, testing his outline, thumb making lazy circles over his growing bulge. “Please, Hannibal… I need you to forgive me.”
Now a genuine smile, showing the hint of fang-shaped teeth. Will took that as an invitation to keep going, and slipped the trousers down, revealing a little pair of black silk shorts that hugged Hannibal’s anatomy seamlessly, curving just right over the contours of his thighs. Will made an unconscious sound of delight and leaned in, nuzzling against the silk, running his nose and mouth along the silhouette of Hannibal’s cock, breathing in his heady, intimate scent. He mouthed it through the fabric, teasing the length, delighting in the shift in Hannibal’s breathing and the hand that found its way into his hair.
“You’re forgiven.”
Will chuckled, nuzzling in again. “I haven’t even started yet.” He tucked Hannibal’s shirttails up under the cummerbund to get them out of his way and breathed on the outline, licking the shaft through the silk.
“Tease,” Hannibal accused, though lovingly, leaning his head back against the closet door behind him.
The radio on Will’s rig chirped, even at the low setting, and Will sighed, stroking his shaft through the layer of silk with more intent now. As tempting as it was to draw this out, he better get a move on before he was missed. He hooked his fingers in the waistband of the undergarment and slid it down as well, greeted by Hannibal’s straining erection and well-groomed body hair. Will took him in hand and slid back his foreskin, flicking his tongue against the exposed tip to gather the pearly drops that already leaked free. He kept his eyes locked on Hannibal’s, a deliberate connection. Will wasn’t fond of eye contact, but he’d learned to cope as a cop, and with Hannibal, it was easy. Always had been.
Hannibal’s breath hitched softly, and Will watched him let himself go, closing his eyes and leaning his head back again, clearly savoring the sensations as Will continued teasing the head of his cock with his tongue. His hips tilted forward as if by instinct, seeking more. As much as Will wanted to flip the script and hear him beg, he was the one in the wrong here. Wrapping his hands around Hannibal’s broad, swim-sculpted ass, Will opened his mouth and drew him inside, relishing the groan of relief that came from that aristocratic mouth. “Shh,” Will said after a few solid sucks. “Someone might hear us.”
“High risk, high reward,” Hannibal breathed as Will went deeper, deploying his finest skills, switching up the pressure and suction, holding the base of his shaft at a pleasure point to work him to euphoria. Hannibal’s fingers tightened in his hair, and Will relaxed his throat, which he was getting better and better at – Dr. Lecter did love a good face fuck. Will squeezed his ass encouragingly and let him go to town. When he sensed the change in muscle tension that signaled the upcoming orgasm, he looked up at Hannibal again, doing his best to convey his contrition through his eyes and the desperate way he groped and caressed up his chest and down the backs of his thighs.
Hannibal’s legs trembled as he climaxed, hand still tangled in Will’s hair, the small space filling with the resonant moan of bliss. Will sputtered a bit on cum, distracted by the way the doctor came undone for him, but cleaned him up with his mouth dutifully after.
“So, you forgive me?” he asked earnestly, easing Hannibal’s underwear back up gently over his softening cock, giving his ass a lingering caress.
Hannibal was still panting softly as he looked down at Will with a mixture of exhaustion and adoration. He offered Will a hand, helping him to stand. “There’s nothing to forgive,” he said, cupping his face to bring him closer for a kiss.
It ended when Will’s radio chirped again. He answered it in a hurry, checking in as he strapped his rig back on. “I gotta go,” he said, putting on his hat.
“Of course.” Hannibal carefully adjusted his shirt, buttoned his trousers, and returned the cummerbund to its appropriate position.
“I get off at midnight,” Will told him, smoothing Hannibal’s hair back into place for him. “Then it’s back to homicide. But, ah… I got someone to cover so… I don’t have to go back until Thursday. If you want…”
Hannibal put a warm hand on his neck, touching his Adam's apple with the pad of his thumb. “Yes, Will.”
Will smiled and kissed him again. “I’ll go first so it’s not as obvious.”
“Be safe,” Hannibal said by way of goodbye. Will fled the closet and the gala, heading back out to patrol.
Hello there, intrepid reader of Hannigram! If you would like to read the second part of this story, where Will gets off work and gets a surprise from everybody’s favorite New Orleans serial killer – the Pontchartrain Ripper – it’s only available on my patreon. Sorry for doing the whole paywall thing. I do sort of hate myself, but here’s the thing – I have a podcast called The Feast is Life, and need patron cash to cover expenses such as the software, microphones, and the hosting site for the podcast itself, as well as tickets to fannibal events that we can cover for the show.  If you haven’t checked out the show yet, the free episodes are available everywhere you find fine and wondrous podcasts, and our patreon at patreon.com/thefeastislife. There, you can make fic requests as well as get your hands on the end of this patron fic, as well as a 12k X-Files AU I wrote that will not be appearing on Ao3. AND you get a whole second show called Table Scraps. It’s only 5$ a month. Five dollars and you get EVERYTHING. We have one and only one tier, and that’s it. Okay, two. We have Randall Tier, but he’s currently chilling in a time out for biting people and humping Hannibal’s leg. Anyway, head on over to our patreon and sign up to grab this fic. You can always cancel after a month if you’re not feeling it, and still get the rest of this story.

Note
My AU is literally just called the TSAMS Continuity AU. It's kind of a multiverse that's the TSAMSverse but with elements of my own personal universe in it, mostly my ocs.
Solar has a daughter named Soliel that he built before Jack. Said daughter blew themself up in an effort of self-sacrifice to save the BloodTwins and her qp partner, Terry Gator(Monty's youngest sibling), from Lunalia(KC's daughter who has a twin and had a mutant KILLCODE security protocol). Soliel was brought back by Eclisse(Eclipse's daughter who was made after Lunar and BloodMoon but before Solar Flare, was stuck in a stasis tube for awhile) and now they have super sunlight powers because the only lab Eclisse had access to was the lab nearby the sun that Eclipse had.
Also Monty has several siblings, most of them they didn't know about for awhile. There's Teek Gator(Original DCA for the Superstar Daycare, not even the Creator was told about them/had much info on them) who's their oldest sibling, Nicolas Gator(Oldest between Monty, Millie, and himself) who's a licensed therapist, Elena Gator who's dating one of the BloodTwins, and Terry Gator, who I mentioned above.
Teek has dark magic powers that's being kept limited with dark magic limiter bracelets due to how powerful and unstable it is.
Terry can somehow absorb, produce, and expel negative star energy without it being earth shatteringly destructive. Downside is that he barely survives the explosions that happen every time they expel negative star energy. Most of it goes into his speed boost ability. It's a miracle Taurus didn't go after him yet.
Also Terry is best friends with the BloodTwins and Soliel adopted the BloodTwins as her brothers. ^^ Hope this wasn't too much for a first confession.
-w-'
This is a cool AU! So many OC's and So much lore! This is amazing! High five 😃😃😃

1.02c Chameleon
Director: Wes Craven
Writer: James Crocker
Cinematographer: Bradford May
Summary:
In orbit above the earth, a spacewalking astronaut notices a strange blue light flashing off part of the space shuttle Discovery. When the shuttle returns to earth, two engineers, Brady (John Ashton) and Gerald (Steve Bassett), are asked to inspect one of the exterior cameras after it malfunctioned in orbit. When Brady removes the camera, he is engulfed in blue light and disappears—leaving just the camera. The camera is moved to a sealed observation lab where a team of NASA scientists can securely examine it. Dr. Curt Lockridge (Terry O’Quinn) and his team try to reason through what happened while they wait for consultation from a higher ranking scientist, Dr. Vaughn Heilman (Ben Piazza).
The camera flares up in blue light again, but now the observation lab is occupied by, what appears to be, Brady. “Brady” pleads with them to let him out. They attempt to reason with him, but “Brady” becomes increasingly irate. In a fit of desperation, “Brady” shape shifts into the form of Brady’s wife, Kathy (Lin Shaye). Kathy then pleads the case to the scientists to let “Brady” go home. This reveals that when this shapeshifter absorbs someone, it also absorbs their knowledge and memories, as the real Kathy is safe at home.
The scientists catch the shapeshifter up in its misunderstanding. It morphs back into its Brady form and begins to lash out. They decide to forcibly sedate the Brady-Thing, and Heilman enters the room to examine it. The Brady-Thing wakes up and absorbs Heilman. Rather than taking on Heilman’s form, it morphs into a bomb with a clock counting down to detonation. As it turns out, Heilman used to work in weapons R&D. Lockridge decides to enter the room himself as a sign of trust, to reason with it and set it free. When the countdown reaches zero, another flash, and out of the room runs the shapeshifter, now in the form of Heilman.
Lockridge chases after it, out onto the tarmac of the airfield. The shapeshifter explains to Lockridge that it ended up on earth out of pure curiosity and assures him that Heilman and Brady are not being held prisoner. Unable to explain its nature in human language, it offers Lockridge the opportunity to merge with it as well, and travel the universe. Lockridge declines and the shapeshifter transforms into a swirling ball of light, launching itself into the open night sky.
Closing Narration:
“Imagine yourself a visitor to many worlds, drifting on the solar wind, a thousand voices singing in your memory. Now imagine you're this man, who can only guess at the wonders he might have known, wonders that exist for him now only as a riddle... from The Twilight Zone."
More about Chameleon:
Chameleon was conceived and written by supervising producer James Crocker. On the DVD commentary for this episode, Crocker explained that his inspiration for writing this story was simply that he liked shapeshifter stories. It was refreshing to hear to be honest, as sometimes producers who envision themselves as creatives build up grandiose creation myths for their creative output. Anyway, I think that this approach worked out well for Chameleon as a Twilight-Zone story. Crocker successfully took inspiration from  preexisting stories about shapeshifting alien beings and synthesized something original from it. (My assumption is that his inspirations were The Andromeda Strain (1971), The Thing (1982) (or The Thing from Another World (1951)), and maybe just a touch from the Star Trek TOS episode “The Squire of Gothos.” But, that’s just my speculation!)
Superficially, Chameleon reminded me more of a story that might appear on The Outer Limits. However, the shorter runtime of the episode gives it a Twilight Zone-y flair of presenting the viewer with a strange premise for them to mull over on their own. That is, Chameleon is relatively fantastic, rather than explicative, which would be more in line with the more sci-fi leaning Outer Limits.
No specific episodes of the original series immediately come to mind to pair Chameleon with, which is a good thing. If every episode had an analog in the original series, this reimagining of the series wouldn’t be showing much imagination! However, if I’m pressed to pair it, I’d go with The Lateness of the Hour (2.08) for depicting the panic response of suddenly not comprehending who or what you are or The Invaders (2.15) for depicting a fundamental difficulty in communicating between people from different planets. While this isn’t a Twilight Zone episode, The Outer Limits episode Corpus Earthing also came to mind when watching this story for the first time.

everyone else was making Shlorpian OCs, so here’s my lil family. more info under the cut!
so because I never half ass anything that’s not important, I thought way too hard about what it would be like if they appeared on the show and how they’d fit into the mix so here’s some fun facts, including potential voice actors:
Viyma - would be voiced by Chelsea Peretti - worked as the Shlorpian equivalent of a doctor, specializing in the process of cutting plant material off of people to use to create replicants - on Shlorp she was a total bombshell, I mean look at the curve of her head godDAMN - used to using her looks to get stuff/favors - actually really smart and works hard on things she gives a shit about (her job, family, bocce ball) - was in the same class in the Academy as Korvo - they fucking hated each other - they also hate fucked each other - robe looks like it flares out for dramatic effect but really she's just got A Fat Ass - Big Top Energy -started growing her replicant later than others in her age range because she was Married To The Job and didn't prioritize creating her own as opposed to helping others create theirs - Wine Mom, but never says no to vodka - has a soft spot for replicants (not just hers, she's pretty nice to Jesse and Yumyulack as well) - makes fun of Korvo for not having his ship repaired by now and refuses to help - partially because she has no idea how because she had someone do her Ship Repair classwork in the Academy but Korvo doesn't need to know that Xechee - probably voiced by Kristen Schaal idk lmao - Viyma's replicant - struggled to grow during her incubation and emerged from the soil earlier than normal - real pipsqueek - not actually dumb but def naive - never knows wtf is going on but is just happy to be there - chose female pronouns relatively early for her age - likes flowers a whole lot, hence why she wears one (it's not fungus from lack of handwashing, Viyma's checked) - her fingers never grew properly, just her thumbs, so her hands look like little mittens - will only eat food if you put maple syrup on it first - too young to really be helpful on the mission as of now but she's fun to have around Phin (full first name is Zelphin) - would be voiced by Joel McHale - pupa expert, and unlike Terry, he actually knows shit about the pupa - he and Viyma were kind of into each other before news of the asteroid came out - was friends with someone on the committee to assign mission partners and might have... influenced him to partner him and Viyma together - used to be a huge fuckin dweeb - Terry pantsed him at the Academy once but considering they wore robes nobody saw anything and it wasn't actually that funny - he's still salty about it though - Shlorp version of Be Careful Who You Made Fun Of In High School - Terry doesn't hate Phin but Phin definitely hates Terry - gets into microbrewing at some point probably - really into the Rugged Camping Dad aesthetic, owns 12 flannel shirts - petty af - cocky and constantly overcompensating - a pretty good dad to Willow and Xechee regardless - Don't Talk To Him Until He's Had His Coffee Willow - would be voiced by Ilana Glazer - Phin's replicant - mellow as hell, kind of a hippie - doesn't wear shoes - won't eat meat, and won't even eat fruits or vegetables bc they're technically living - eats straight up dirt to survive (Shlorp version of a vegan) - still smokes weed, and will eat anything while high - a little older than Jesse and Yumyulack, like 16-17 in earth years - discovered yoga pants and can never go back - was training on Shlorp to work in the Solarium and take care of incubating replicants - as a result, she's really into gardening and plants on Earth - got made fun of a lot on Shlorp for picking a dumb name like Willow and not a proper Shlorpian one like Xanthiolix or Greg - probably has a yoga and mediation Instagram
Yeah but then I was like ‘wait why would they interact with the Earth fam if they’re supposed to be on another planet? so here a basic summary of what would go down:
A new neighbor moves in across the street from Terry and Korvo named Brent and they NEED to get to know him better.
Korvo believes he would be able to assist with ship repair because he saw him changing the oil in his car once and I mean, come on, he would definitely be able to lift things Korvo couldn't. With those arms?? (also basically he wants to be friends with him and maybe fuck him but doesn't want to admit that). Terry wants to be friends with him because he saw the big screen tv in his living room and also thinks he'd be into doing butt stuff. He doesn't seem offput by aliens either, so that's a plus!
After a few failed attempts to befriend him they notice a space ship, very much like theirs, in his driveway. Was Brent in disguise this whole time?? Could he be a Shlorpian who could help them with ship repair??? And then Terry doesnt have to hear Korvo complain about how he never helps with ship repair???? Even better!
Then they find out the actual Shlorpians are Viyma and Phin, Korvo and Terry's respective rivals from their homeworld. Not only would they never help them with ship repair or the Pupa, but apparently they're both dating Brent? And they're going to constantly be around to spend time with him???
GREAT.
Yeah I haven’t drawn Brent yet but I like poly couples and I figured it’d also give these clowns an excuse to visit earth and annoy the Solar Opposites fam. They met Brent at Trader Joe’s because their uninhabited planet doesn’t have one so they would make the trip idk  shut up
I’m new to digital art (and it’s been a while since I’ve drawn at all because of reasons but I’ve been wanting to get back into it) and I drew Viyma first, so she looks kind of rough but I think I’ve already improved! I did Willow and Xechee (pronounced Zee Chee btw) last and I feel like I was starting to get the hang of what tf I was doing. Hopefully I’ll be able to draw the canon characters soon (and maybe Brent and their pupa)

Hank Henshaw first appeared as a crew member on board the doomed NASA Space Shuttle Excalibur in Superman (vol. 2) #42, and Henshaw and the other crew members were next seen in Adventures of Superman #465.[4][5]
Hank and the other three members of the Excalibur crew, including his wife Terri, are part of a radiation experiment designed by LexCorp that is affected by a solar flare, causing their shuttle to crash.[1] As a result of their radiation exposure, the human bodies of two crew members were destroyed. However, their minds survived and they were able to construct new bodies out of cosmic radiation and bits of earth and wreckage from the shuttle, respectively. Initially, Henshaw and his wife suffer no ill effects from the radiation (though Hank's hair turns white), and the crew travels to Metropolis in the hopes of using LexCorp facilities to cure their mutated crewmates. During a brief battle with Superman, one crew member, now composed of radiation, becomes unhinged and flies into the Sun, destroying himself. By this time, Henshaw's body has started to rapidly decay, while his wife is beginning to phase into an alternate dimension. With Superman's help, Henshaw is able to use the LexCorp facilities to save Terri. The remaining member of the shuttle crew commits suicide, using an MRI booth to tear apart the metallic components of his body.[6]
Though Henshaw's physical body expired, he was able to transfer his consciousness into the LexCorp mainframe. Now able to control technology, Henshaw appears to his wife in a robotic body. The shock of this bizarre rebirth is too much for Terri to bear and in a fit of insanity, she jumps to her death. By this point, Henshaw's electronic consciousness has begun to disrupt Earth's communications networks. Using NASA communications equipment, Henshaw beams his mind into the birthing matrix which had carried Superman from Krypton to Earth as an infant.[1] He creates a small exploration craft from the birthing matrix and departs into outer space alone.[7]
Henshaw spends some time traveling between planets, bonding with local lifeforms to learn about the culture and history of various worlds. Henshaw comes to believe that Superman was responsible for the tragedy of the Excalibur after learning that around the time of the accident, the Man of Steel had thrown a rogue Kryptonian artificial intelligence (the Eradicator) into the Sun. Henshaw believes that this created the solar flare that resulted in the Excalibur crew's transformations (although Superman had shared this concern with Terri after he had saved her life and she had confirmed that the flares would have been triggered before Superman disposed of the Eradicator).[8] Over time, Henshaw becomes delusional and paranoid, believing that the Man of Steel had intentionally caused the deaths of himself, his wife, and his crew, then driven him from Earth. Arriving on a planet controlled by alien overlord and Superman foe Mongul, Henshaw learns of Warworld and forcibly recruits Mongul as part of a plan for revenge against Superman.[9]
Reign of the SupermenEdit
Main article: The Death of Superman
Cover of Superman (vol. 2) #79. Art by Dan Jurgens.
With Superman apparently dead after his battle with Doomsday, Henshaw decides to pose as him in order to destroy his reputation. To that end, the Cyborg claims to be Superman reborn, the result of the hero's body being pieced together and revived with technology. The Cyborg then uses knowledge obtained from Superman's birthing matrix to construct a body that is genetically identical to Superman's.[9] When analyzed closely by Professor Hamilton, the Cyborg passes for the real thing, due to components within himself that include Kryptonian alloys, combined with the fact that the replaced body parts correspond with those parts of the original Superman's body that were most severely injured in his fight with Doomsday.[10]
After destroying a Superman memorial plaque in front of the Daily Planet, the Cyborg exiles Doomsday into space, prevents a nuclear meltdown, and saves the President of the United States from an assassination attempt. The White House then endorses the Cyborg as the 'true' Superman.[11][12] When confronted by Lois Lane, the Cyborg claims his memory is "blurry", but he can see a "spaceship on a farm and the name Kent", suggesting that Henshaw may be aware of Superman's secret identity.[10]
Henshaw's arrival as Superman is simultaneous with that of three others: John Henry Irons (the self-styled Man of Steel), the Eradicator (the self-styled Last Son of Krypton), and the modern Superboy.[11] The endorsement of the President ensures that the Cyborg eclipses the rest of the heroes claiming to be Superman's heir. During this time, two cults spring up in anticipation of Superman's return from the dead: one that deifies the Eradicator and another that venerates the Cyborg. Supporters of both eventually come to blows over which is the real Superman.
Destroying Coast CityEdit
When an alien ship appears over Coast City, the Cyborg attacks and severely injures the Eradicator, allowing Mongul's craft to destroy the city. The Cyborg also murders an entire family of vacationers trying to find a way out of the devastated area.[13] The Cyborg was then able to convince the White House and the public that the Eradicator was responsible.[14] After tricking and defeating Superboy, Henshaw prepares to launch a nuclear warhead intended to convert Metropolis into a second Engine City.[14][15]
Superboy is able to escape and warn John Henry Irons, Supergirl, and the resurrected (but powerless) original Superman of the Cyborg's plans.[9][16] The quartet travels to the site of the former Coast City, and Superman (whose powers are slowly returning), Supergirl, and Steel confront Mongul and the Cyborg, while Superboy stops the missile from hitting Metropolis.[17] While Green Lantern defeats Mongul, the Cyborg lures Superman and the Eradicator to the Engine City main reactor and attempts to kill Superman with the kryptonite that powers the engine. When Henshaw tries to kill Superman with a concentrated blast of kryptonite radiation, the Eradicator intercepts the blast at the expense of his own life. As the kryptonite energy passes through the Eradicator, the radiation is altered and acts to fully restore Superman's powers. Superman is then able to easily defeat the already weakened Cyborg by sticking his arm through Henshaw's chest, killing him and shattering his body. When Henshaw panics and states that he will "somehow" find a way to come back, a doubting Superman simply says that if Henshaw does, he will be waiting.[18]
It was later revealed that Henshaw chose to attack Coast City first because he and his late wife were former residents. This was part of an effort to erase his former life.[19]
ReturnEdit
Hank Henshaw in Superman/Doomsday: Hunter/Prey #1, drawn by Dan Jurgens and Brett Breeding
Before exiling Doomsday into space, Henshaw had installed a device on the monster to allow him to detect if Doomsday were to ever escape. After the destruction of his Cyborg Superman form, Henshaw transfers his consciousness into this device as Doomsday is "the safest place in the galaxy" for the Cyborg to hide. Doomsday is brought on board a space cruiser and, despite frantic efforts of the crew to jettison him, kills the crew, and upon landing on Apokolips, proceeds to pillage the planet.
When Superman, his power now boosted by being repowered by "purple kryptonite", arrives; Henshaw emerges by reconfiguring an armored Apokoliptian trooper, brutally murdered by Doomsday, into a new body (which, by all accounts, had its DNA overwritten with the Kryptonian DNA Henshaw had obtained while in Superman's birthing matrix, and thus still retains a portion of Superman's abilities and still looks the way the Cyborg Superman looked, except for a change in the color of the Cyborg's metallic components) and proceeds to lay siege to the planet alongside Doomsday. The Cyborg successfully takes over most of Apokolips but is captured by Darkseid's Omega Beams during a battle with Superman.[20]
Apokolips and beyondEdit
Darkseid did not kill the Cyborg; rather, the Omega Effect captured Henshaw in a small orb, with Darkseid planning to use the Cyborg against Superman at a later date.[21] Darkseid eventually frees Henshaw with the understanding that Henshaw is to leave Apokolips and never return.
The Cyborg eventually aligns himself with an intergalactic Tribunal which is seeking to bring Superman to trial for the crimes of his ancestors. Henshaw assists the Tribunal in capturing the Eradicator, Superboy, Supergirl, Steel, and Alpha Centurion, who had intended to rescue Superman. However, the Cyborg betrayed the Tribunal and attempted to conquer their planet for conversion into a new Warworld. Superman and his allies stop the Cyborg's plan and, when Henshaw's involvement in the destruction of Coast City is brought to the attention of the Tribunal, they find him guilty of genocide and sentence him to death. As an electronic consciousness, Henshaw cannot be killed by normal means and is transported beyond the event horizon of a black hole, where not even light can escape from the gravity.
Rather than being destroyed, the Cyborg is transported (unknowingly by another villain, Thanos) to a Marvel Multiverse dimension designated as 616, as seen at the beginning of the Green Lantern/Silver Surfer: Unholy Alliances crossover one-shot issue. The Cyborg destroys a planet in another attempt to recreate Warworld, attracting the attention of the Silver Surfer. Their short battle is interrupted by the arrival of Parallax, who has been tracking the Cyborg for some time, seeking vengeance for the destruction of Coast City. In the confusion, Henshaw escapes and is returned to the DC Universe. Parallax undoes the destruction of the planet that Henshaw had caused using power donated from the Silver Surfer.

The Cyborg encounters Hal Jordan again at the Source Wall,[22] a nexus of statues that channels vital energy to preserve the Fourth World. Parallax uses his powers to generate representations of the victims of Coast City, which tear the Cyborg's body apart. Jordan then disperses Henshaw's consciousness, and the Cyborg is seemingly destroyed once again.[1]
During a crisis involving the Godwave, Superman (wearing his blue energy costume at the time) travels toNew Genesis and encounters Henshaw again. Henshaw has taken part of the Source Wall's structure and crafted a small world made up of his memories, which he uses to taunt Superman before being defeated again. Unknown to Superman, the Cyborg stored his own consciousness in Superman's high-tech containment suit. After Superman returns to Earth, Henshaw escapes and constructs a new body, this time posing as an art teacher at a high school in an attempt to start over. He is a popular teacher and befriends the blind Ashbury Armstrong (daughter of Dirk Armstrong), but ultimately his rage towards Superman causes him to reveal his true identity and his new body is lost in a fight with Superman. To escape detection, Henshaw stores his consciousness in a clay statue. This statue is later stolen by the Toyman and the two villains join forces to kill Superman. To this end, the Cyborg designs a machine that will break Superman's energy form down into multiple components and beam them to different points in the galaxy, preventing Superman from reforming. A malfunction in the machine causes Superman to split into Superman Blue and Superman Red, the latter of whom eventually defeats and recaptures the Cyborg.
The Cyborg later attempts to take over Kandor, but fails when he is defeated by Superman and sent to the Phantom Zone. Shortly after the Superman Y2K story, Henshaw escapes the Zone and attacks Superman, who was suffering from Kryptonite poisoning. Henshaw is defeated with the help of the Kandorians and sent back to the Phantom Zone, swearing revenge. However, he is not encountered on subsequent visits to the Zone.
ManhuntersEdit
Henshaw returns in a form similar to his original body, when he is revealed to be the Manhunters' new Grandmaster.[23] With his influence, the Manhunters have been upgraded with organic material, most notably with blood. On the Manhunter home world of Biot, in sector 3601, Henshaw is holding captive several assumed-to-be-dead Green Lanterns, most of whom appeared to die during the Emerald Twilight saga.
Henshaw has also used Kryptonian technology to upgrade the Manhunters. During the Green Lantern story arc No Fear,[24] Kryptonian robots are seen servicing the Manhunters. Henshaw, the Grandmaster, allowed the Green Lantern Corps to rebuild for unspecified reasons as a part of his master plan. While Henshaw explains that he first encountered the Manhunters around the time he was imprisoned in the Source Wall by Parallax, it has yet to be revealed how the Cyborg was able to escape the Phantom Zone and take control of Biot. Henshaw is defeated when Biot explodes, destroying most of his body aside from his head.
Henshaw's head is then brought by a Guardian back to Oa so that they can learn of how he was able to take control of Biot, what he has learned from the Manhunters and to learn about "the 52"[25] (referring to the 51 alternate Earths created during the second Crisis as well as their own reality). It is also revealed that the Cyborg knows of the 52, though exactly how he came by this knowledge is not made completely clear. It is stated that he has explored "The Bleed"; the space between dimensions, which could have occurred either when he was imprisoned there, when he was imprisoned in the Source Wall, or in his past exploration of the Marvel Universe.
Sinestro CorpsEdit

Henshaw's head is taken by the Sinestro Corps after their invasion of Oa to Qward. Henshaw is later seen as a herald of the newly returned Anti-Monitor. He reconstructs his cyborg body and replaces the S-symbol on his chest with the symbol of the Sinestro Corps. He now wields ten Qwardian power rings.[26] It is revealed that Henshaw has joined the Sinestro Corps so that the Anti-Monitor can later kill him and allow him to rest in peace.[27]
Henshaw was the focus of the Tales of the Sinestro Corps Presents: Cyborg Superman one-shot that was released on October 3, 2007.[8][28][29] In this book, Henshaw and his Manhunters head to Earth to assist the Sinestro Corps in their attack. En route, Henshaw stops leading the Manhunters which continue to their preprogrammed destinations. As he watches them go, he remembers everything that has happened to him, from their dreadful shuttle accident to his wife's suicide when she sees him in his robot form. He finishes this journey down memory lane by going to his wife's grave. He digs her corpse out and rips it into two, shouting that all he wants is not to be with her, but for these memories to fade.[8]
Meanwhile, the Manhunters begin an assault on the JLA satellite. Hawkgirl, Black Lightning, and Red Arrow retaliate; however, all three are neutralized when Henshaw assists in the attack and he successfully tampers with the mechanics of the satellite core. As the satellite is thrown out of orbit, Superman appears and engages Henshaw in battle. Their fight continues on Earth, while Sinestro transports his crew and his ship from the anti-matter universe. At first Superman seems to have the upper hand; however after two punches, Henshaw strikes with great power and rage, punching him through the Statue of Liberty. By the end, Henshaw has Superman in a choke hold, thinking that the victory is near.[8]
He is later seen briefly in Tales of the Sinestro Corps Presents: Superman-Prime, having presumably been beaten back by the combined strength of Superman, Supergirl, and Power Girl.[30]
When the Green Lantern Corps decide to detonate New Warworld and the central power battery of the Sinestro Corps to destroy the Anti-Monitor, Henshaw allows himself to be trapped behind a shield and exposed to the massive explosion. Before he is destroyed, however, he thanks the Green Lantern Corps.[31]
Most of Henshaw's body survived the explosion, but it took further damage when Superman-Prime hurled the Anti-Monitor into space. The upper part of his skull was retrieved by the android Manhunters. Unable to detect any life signs and confused without his leadership, the Manhunters reanimated the brain of the Cyborg Superman. He shed a tear when he realized he was still alive.[31]
Death and retrievalEdit
In the Brightest Day crossover, Henshaw would eventually return and work with the Alpha Lanterns as they attempted to augment every Green Lantern, including Ganthet, into an Alpha.[32][33] This was apparently at the suggestion of the robed figure holding Ion and Parallax, who told him that Ganthet held the knowledge to destroy him permanently, after Henshaw's attempts to provoke Nekron into killing him during the Blackest Night failed because he lacked a heart to attract Nekron's interest.[34] By threatening to make the Alpha Lanterns kill themselves if Ganthet does not cooperate, Henshaw forces Ganthet to work on reversing the augments that turned the Green Lanterns into Alpha Lanterns, hoping that he can use the resulting information to restore his original mortal body.[35]
Henshaw was seemingly killed when his lifeforce was finally separated from his nearly indestructible body by the combined full powered blasts of several Lanterns and Ganthet, and appeared on the mental plane of Alpha-Lantern Boodikka in an attempt to take her bio-mechanical body over, where both beings were their original, un-powered selves. Her essence, gifted with her innate, formidable combat skills, engaged his in one-on-one combat, and she quickly overpowered and killed his astral form.
Afterwards, however, Ganthet noted immediately that there was something different about her. Boodikka claims this is because Ganthet's newly discovered emotions allowed him to see her as she is (Boodikka's true self, now in control of her body again), not by what she is (an Alpha Lantern).[36]
In the Reign of Doomsday crossover, Boodikka was attacked by Doomsday while investigating the remains of New Krypton, and Henshaw was revealed to still be alive inside her, forming a new body out of her internal circuitry to fight Doomsday while Batman and Supergirl were trying to repair Boodikka.[37] Henshaw uses his abilities to take control of the JLA Watchtower and uses the satellite's defenses in an attempt to kill Doomsday, reasoning that if he could manage to destroy the creature that killed Superman, it would prove once and for all that he is superior to Superman. After the creature is violently dismembered by Henshaw, it somehow absorbs the nanotechnology from Henshaw's body and repairs itself, becoming a new being dubbed Cyborg Doomsday. Cyborg Doomsday somehow manages to negate Henshaw's ability to repair himself, which leads Henshaw to believe that he might finally meet his demise. Supergirl bursts onto the scene and attempts to stop Doomsday herself, but Henshaw fires an energy blast at her, stating that he would not allow her to defeat the creature that had humiliatingly beaten him only moments before. With Supergirl distracted, Cyborg Doomsday knocks her out and then tears one of Henshaw's arms off before departing with both of his unconscious captives.[38] Trapped in a satellite with the other Supermen, the heroes conclude that Henshaw has been trapped with them to keep them disorganized due to the tensions caused by his presence, prompting Henshaw to depart and search the satellite himself. After Superman arrives to rescue his comrades, Henshaw reveals that the Doomsdays that fought them were actually all clones of the original created by Lex Luthor.[39] Henshaw tries to fight them, but Superman rips his central node off, knowing that they would not survive a confrontation with the Doomsdays.[40] After the Doomsday clones are sent to another dimension, Henshaw is in custody of S.T.A.R. Labs.[41]
The New 52 and DC RebirthEdit
In September 2011, The New 52 rebooted DC's continuity. In this new timeline, a fully human Henshaw appears as a doctor working for the Advanced Prosthetic Research Centre and colleague of Caitlin Fairchild. He is tasked into reactivating the android Spartan.[42]
While in space and after saving a planet called I'noxia, Supergirl discovers an amnesiac Cyborg Superman living there. This version is revealed to be Zor-El, who survives Krypton's destruction and is reconfigured as a half-human half-machine by Brainiac to be his scout looking for stronger species in the universe. His heart was switched with that of a human to remove his ability to be affected by kryptonite.[43]
When the human Henshaw is sent into space on the Excalibur on a long-term mission, he is monitored by the Clark Kent and Lois Lane of the pre-Flashpoint universe, who were trapped in the New 52 world following the Convergence, with Superman seeking to prevent the rise of some of his former adversaries in this world. When the Excalibur crashes after returning from a ten-year journey to Jupiter and back, Superman saves the ship, but is puzzled to see that Henshaw is the only person on board.[44] Taking Henshaw to a base he has established in the Arctic regions to better assess if this Henshaw is a threat or not, Superman is briefly forced to face both Henshaw and a new foe called Blanque, who possesses powerful telepathic and telekinetic abilities and was also kept in the fortress, but once Blanque is focused on fighting Superman, Henshaw helps Superman defeat this new foe with the weapons of a spaceship that was also kept in the fortress. It is later revealed that Henshaw acquired part of an object known as 'the Oblivion Stone' on Jupiter, with Superman forced to face an alien warrior seeking both Henshaw's part of the stone and another part kept in the fortress, but Superman drives her off, Henshaw claiming when questioned that he had no memory of anything that happened on the Excalibur or between it landing and him being discovered.[45]
After the reality disruption caused by Mister Mxyzptlk caused the histories of the pre-Flashpoint and New 52 Superman to merge during the DC Rebirth reboot, Henshaw's memories of his past as the Cyborg Superman were restored. With this knowledge, he set out to assemble various old foes of Superman like Metallo, the Eradicator, Blanque, and his old 'ally' Mongul to form the Superman Revenge Squad before using the Oblivion Stone to restore his body to its Cyborg Superman state. He even expressed interest into recruiting General Zod to his group.[46] The new Superman Revenge Squad then set out for Kal-El's Fortress of Solitude to obtain the Phantom Zone Projector, still in need of Zod's Kryptonian army to defeat the Superman family. What the Cyborg did not realize was that Zod was using the Squad to achieve his own ends. After finding his family trapped within the Zone's confines, Zod betrayed them, leaving Henshaw trapped within the Phantom Zone.[47]
He would soon be released by his hated enemy, Superman, on account of an epiphany Clark had while on a time traveling excursion with Booster Gold. To keep the maddened bionic menace docile while he came up with a more humane means of detaining him, Superman gave Henshaw a Kryptonian memory crystal that would pacify the Cyborg Superman's rage by letting him relive his happiest memories in an fantasy world fabricated by his own mind.[48] This self-imposed incarceration would not last, however, as the demented machine man found another means of escape. While he was trapped, a part of his mind escaped into the universe, where he sought to manipulate the Guardians and their appointed intergalactic law enforcement bureau, the Green Lantern Corps, to facilitate his escape.[49]
Even trapped within Superman's Kryptonian dwelling, Henshaw was able to influence the Central Power Battery back on Oa a universe away. From within his cell, he orchestrated a mystery surrounding the death of a Guardian to find a powerful weapon, the Phantom Ring.[50] After hacking into the Lantern ring network, Henshaw used the unsuspecting Corpsmen Simon Baz, to break the Cyborg out of the Fortress of Solitude and deliver him the Phantom Ring.[50] Though Henshaw was able to capture the Green Lanterns as his hacking into their main central Power Battery rendered their rings useless,[51] however due to John Stewart and Simon Baz using the Kryptonian weapons that Simon borrowed from the Fortress, along with the fact that any Green Lantern who had not recharged their rings prior to Henshaw hacking into the main battery (such as Hal Jordan and Kilowog) were immune, allowing them to fight back.[52] In retaliation, Henshaw retreated to Earth with the intention to recreate the disaster of destroying Coast City with the power of the Phantom Ring. With the help of other Green Lantern Corpsmen (such as Sodam Yat), Henshaw was defeated and forced to retreat with the Phantom Ring

Solar Opposites: Ultra Opposites The Movie Ch. 6 (from @avaveevo)
Tumblr media
Miss Frankie is in jail. Suddenly, a police officer approaches her.
Police Officer: Alright, miss. You made bail.
Miss Frankie: *sighs depressingly* Okay. Thank you for letting me know.
The police officer opens the cell and Miss Frankie is let out. Miss Frankie takes a deep breath and walks out.
Miss Frankie: So, who bailed me out.
Principal Cooke: Hey baby! *Miss Frankie gasp in joy and kisses him* Yeesh, how was jail time? Did they hurt you?!
Miss Frankie: No. They learned a thing or two to not mess with me.
Principal Cooke: I love it when you’re so tough!
Miss Frankie: Thanks, sweetie!
Principal Cooke: By the way, how did you end up in jail?
Miss Frankie: Ugh. Car rent.
Principal Cooke: Honey…
Miss Frankie: I know I know… *then thinks about giving the Solars another chance* You think I’ve been a huge asshole to these aliens?
Principal Cooke: Pretty much.
Miss Frankie then looks down as she sighs. The scene then cuts to school where Yumyulack is getting stuff from his locker, until Daryl comes up from behind him and hugs him. Yumyulack smiles and kiss his boyfriend and the lips as they moan lovingly.
Daryl: Hey, babe.
Yumyulack: Hey honey. How was school today?
Daryl: Ugh, it was hell. I don’t think I’ll be able to ace the test tomorrow.
Yumyulack: Hey relax honey. You’re gonna do great. Plus, *referring to himself* you have the best math tutor around.
Daryl laughs.
Daryl: I know. See you tonight babe.
Yumyulack kisses Daryl on the cheek
Yumyulack: You know it babe.
Then, Yumyulack see the headphone guys picking on a couple of kids.
Aiden: Gimme your lunch money right now, or I'm gonna kick your meek little ass.
Lily: Ow! Hey! Cut it out!
Yumyulack growls and goes up to them.
Jayden: What're ya gonna do, cry?
Yumyulack: Hey! You heard her! Cut it out!
Aiden: Nice entrance, loser. What crazy world are you living in where you think a alien could be a hero?
Yumyulack: Kindly return these kids’ lunch money right now!
Aiden: Come and get `em.... But watch out, ‘cause we’re popular and it’s in our dunnah!
Mark: Uh, it’s pronounced DNA.
Jayden: Don’t tell what I know about, Mark!
Yumyulack: You don’t scare me man.
Aidan pushes Yumyulack
Aidan: What you gonna do? Run away and cry?!
Braiden: You scared now!
Jayden: Look at him tremble! He is scared!
Aiden: What are you gonna do? Cry no-
Yumyulack kicks Aidan in the face
Aidan: Oh, you don't know when to quit, do ya?
Aidan punches Yumyulack in the face
Aidan: I want you to remember this moment the next time you think you will ever be anything more than just a stupid, weak fuck.
The Headphone Kids leave as the kids run up to Yumyulack.
Lily: That looks bad.
Rebecca: Are you okay?
Yumyulack: Yeah. I’m fine. *gives the kids their money* He’s your money.
Eddie: Woah! How do you get them?
Yumyulack: I snuck from behind while they attack me.
Rebecca: You’re awesome! Those headphone kids were wrong about you!
Lily: Yeah! Aiden doesn't know what he's talkin' `bout.
Yumyulack: Well, he’s right about one thing. I don’t know when to quit.
The scene then cuts to Yumyulack heading inside his house. Then, Korvo runs up and hugs him in relief.
Korvo: Yumyulack! I heard what happened! Are you all right?
Yumyulack: Sorta.
Korvo kisses Yumyulack on the forehead.
Korvo: Well I am so glad my son is okay.
Yumyulack smiles and hugs Korvo
Yumyulack: Thanks Korvo.
Korvo smiles.
Korvo: Come on. Let’s get you inside.
The father and son head inside and then Janiz then comes up in desperate and runs up and hugs Yumyulack.
Janiz: Are you okay?
Yumyulack: Yes, why-
Janiz: Did you have any side effects? Outbursts? Glowing eyes?!
Yumyulack: I…What are you talking about?
Korvo sighs.
Korvo: Yumyulack, it’s time you knew.
The three Shlorpians head into Korvo and Terry’s room. Korvo close the door and locks it. Yumyulack sits down as while Korvo holds Yumyulack’s hand.
Yumyulack: Korvo, what’s going on? I’m not in trouble am I?
Korvo sighs.
Korvo: Yumyulack, you’re a Super Shlorpian. Like me and Janiz.
Yumyulack: What?! How?! Does Terry know about this?!
Korvo: Yes. I already told him. And…. it’s been running in our family for generations. Including today. Once a Replicant turns 13-years old, the spirits grant him the spirit of the Super Shlorpian in his sleep, which also becomes their new life source.
Tears start running down Yumyulack’s cheeks as his eyes turn purple with anger
Korvo: Yumyulack? Yumyulack, no!
Yumyulack: Are you…SERIOUS?!
Yumyulack growls as he snarls as Korvo and Janiz gasp.
Yumyulack: SO THIS IS THEIR FAULT?!
Korvo then gives Yumyulack a cooldown hug.
Korvo: Sssh…it’s okay. Just take deep breaths for me, okay?
Yumyulack takes a deep breath but then breaks down crying.
Yumyulack: *tearfully* Why…Why didn’t you tell me?
Korvo: Because, I was waiting until the time was right. Which it is. Janiz and I also inherited this ever since we were kids. My first time however was traumatic.
A flashback plays of Replicant Korvo throwing up
Korvo: *voicover* I was sick… I didn’t what caused it, but I was really ill…
Replicant Janiz: Are you okay?!
Replicant Korvo kept throwing up, which made Replicant Janiz concern.
Replicant Korvo: I-
Then, Replicant Korvo kept throwing up.
Replicant Janiz: Hey hey. It’s gonna be okay…
Korvo: *voiceover* I was also prone to mental breakdowns
Replicant Korvo: *starts breathing in and out*
Replicant Janiz: Korvo, just-
Then, suddenly Replicant Korvo’s eyes starts glowing aquamarine as his skin starts turning black and his fingers turns into claws. Replicant Janiz gasps.
Replicant Korvo: Janiz! *starts growing bigger and muscular* What’s wrong with me?! *robe and shoes starts to tear* Help me…
Replicant Janiz screams in fear. Replicant Korvo roars as he rips apart his robe and shoes and then his horns and wings appear as he roars as tears of rage burst from his eyes.
Replicant Janiz: K-Korvo?
Super Shlorpian Replicant Korvo as he bust through a window and attacks some Shlorpians. Replicant Janiz and runs after him and sees some Shlorpians injured and/or hurt. Replicant Janiz gasp and sees Super Shlorpian Replicant Korvo roaring and runs up to him.
Replicant Janiz: Korvo! No! Stop! Calm down! I’m here! You’re all right!
Super Shlorpian Replicant Korvo roars as Replicant Janiz, who gasp as her eyes glow icy and transforms into a Super Shlorpian to calm down her brother. Super Shlorpian Replicant Korvo gasps as he sees his sister as a Super Shlorpian.
Korvo: *voiceover* I was lucky Janiz was there to save me.
Super Shlorpian Replicant Janiz: It’s okay baby brother… it’s gonna be okay…
Super Shlorpian Replicant Korvo starts sobbing.
Super Shlorpian Replicant Janiz: *hugs her crying brother* Shh… it’s okay… I’m here…
The flashback ends as Korvo weeps.
Korvo: *weeps* That’s when I vow not to transform again. Because, I never want to get anyone hurt. Then, you came along.
Yumyulack: Korvo, I’m so sorry you-
Korvo: It’s okay honey. But, I also transform again when you were just a sproutling.
Yumyulack: You did? But I don’t remember that…
The flashback starts as baby Yumyulack starts crying.
Baby Yumyulack: *wailing*
Korvo goes up to Yumyulack’s crib and picks him up
Korvo: Shh… it’s okay my little sprout… daddy’s here… shh…
Baby Yumyulack stops crying and sniffles. But then, Korvo hears the sound of a monster as a giant horn monster bust in here.
Korvo: HOLY FUCK!
Baby Yumyulack starts wailing louder because he is scared. Korvo, seeing his baby scared and might be in danger, goes papa wolf as his eyes glow aquamarine. Korvo turns into his Super Shlorpian form and roars. The horn monster scratches him on the back. Despite the pain, Super Shlorpian Korvo fires ice breath at the beast. Then, he flies away while holding baby Yumyulack, who is still crying. The horn monster goes after him. Super Shlorpian Korvo hide as he consoles baby Yumyulack.
Super Shlorpian Korvo: Ssh. Ssh. You’re all right. Daddy’s here.
Baby Yumyulack calms down as he coos. Super Shlorpian then hides baby Yumyulack in crate as he starts to whimper in pain. Suddenly, an offscreen green Shlorpian, who looks familiar, comes up to him while the horn monster flies past them and doesn’t see them.
Past Terry: Hey… shh… *soothes Super Shlorpian Korvo’s face* It’s okay… let me help you…
Super Shlorpian Korvo blushes. Past Terry helps heal the wounds on Super Shlorpian Korvo, as he puts a bandage around the wound. The Shlorpian then sees the monster as he gasp and runs up. Super Shlorpain Korvo collapse as he falls asleep. A few minutes later… Korvo wakes up back to normal and gasp upon seeing the monster dead while he sees baby Yumyulack in his arms cooing while sleeping. He then gasp upon seeing another black monster Shlorpian, but it’s not a Super Shlorpian while another baby crying was heard in the background. Korvo looks on but then heads back to smiling as he looks down at Baby Yumyulack who coos again. The flashback ends as Yumyulack gasps.
Yumyulack: What? There was a monster that attack you when I was a baby? And you transformed?
Korvo nods.
Korvo: I did. Because, I was scared my little sprout would get hurt… and I was scared of what would happen you transform into a Super Shlorpian for the first time.
Janiz puts a hand on Korvo’s shoulder
Janiz: We were also waiting for when we told you. Because, we love you Yumyulack.
Yumyulack tearfully hugs Janiz
Yumyulack: *tearfully* Thank you for saving my dad, Janiz.
Janiz smiles and hugs Yumyulack as Korvo joins in. The scene then cuts to Ophelia spying on Daryl. Then, she sees the window from Daryl’s room open as she smirks. She then fires a dart at Daryl, who cries out in pain and falls down unconscious. Ophelia chuckles evilly. The scene then cuts to Terry and Korvo getting an alert.
Terry: What was that alarm?!
Korvo: Yes! Let’s go see what it is!
The two alien husbands then checks the notification from the alarm as they gasp in horror upon seeing Daryl getting kidnapped by Ophelia.
Terry: Holy shit! They got our son’s boyfriend!
Korvo: Yumyulack is not gonna be happy.
Yumyulack: *offscreen* Not happy about what?
Yumyulack comes in and gasp.
Yumyulack: D-Daryl?!
Korvo and Terry then turns into Legendary Super Shlorpian and Solar Flare as Yumyulack starts growling and clenches his fist in anger.
Yumyulack: I’m gonna kill that woman!
Korvo: Who whoa whoa! Yumyulack, you’re not ready yet. You need training!
Yumyulack: What?
Terry takes him to the training courses as he smiles at his stepson. Then, Terry turns into Solar Flare as he starts singing while Yumyulack gets ready to be trained.

As the song ends Yumyulack glows purple and transforms into his own super suit for the first time as he laughs in joy.
Yumyulack/???: Wow! I look amazing! Just call me… Psylock!
Psylock does his own superhero pose while his dads smile in tears of joy.
Korvo/Legendary Super Shlorpian: Oh Yumyulack! I am so proud of you! *hugs Psylock*
Yumyulack/Psylock: Thanks, Korv. Now let’s go kick ass!
The two superhero alien husbands nod at their son as they fly off to the fortress. Meanwhile with Ophelia and Daryl, Daryl is trying to escape.
Daryl: Let me go you crazy bitch!
Ophelia: Oh be quiet! It’s not like anyone’s gonna come save you anyway!
Yumyulack/Psylock: *offscreen* But we are!
Just then, Solar Flare, Legendary Super Shlorpian and Psylock bust in the fortress and lands on their feet while doing their own superhero stances. Daryl gasps.
Yumyulack/Psylock: Release him motherfucker!
Ophelia: There are three of you now?! Impossible!
Solar Flare laughs.
Terry/Solar Flare: Fuck yeah bitch! Now release our son’s boyfriend!
Ophelia: Make me!
Psylock uses his mind reading powers on Ophelia. Ophelia is thrown into a wall.
Ophelia: UGH!
Terry/Solar Flare: L.S.S! Now!
Legendary Super Shlorpian turns into his super Shlorpian form and uses his ice breath to freeze Ophelia who growls
Ophelia: This won’t stop me! Once I-
But Ophelia is now a frozen statue. Psylock unlocks the cage and embraces Daryl.
Daryl: Yumyulack? You look amazing.
Psylock blushes.
Yumyulack/Psylock: Thanks. *twirl around* A little basic but I think I look nice too.
Daryl: You sure do. *kisses Psylock on the cheek*
Psylock smirks as kisses Daryl on the lips
Yumyulack/Psylock: Now let’s get out of here!
The Ultra Opposites fly off with Psylock holding Daryl
Daryl: You guys look amazing.
Terry/Solar Flare: Thanks. These are our super suits!
Yumyulack/Psylock: Yes they are.
The group lands and Solar Flare, Legendary Super Shlorpian, and Psylock transform back
Yumyulack: Glad you’re okay babe
Daryl: Yeah. See you tomorrow?
Yumyulack: You bet.
Yumyulack and Daryl kiss while moaning. Korvo and Terry smile as they watch Daryl leave and smiles at Yumyulack.
Miss Frankie: *offscreen* Korvo? Terry?
Korvo and Terry turn and see Miss Frankie and Principal Cooke, who is surprised.
Korvo: Miss Frankie? Principal Cooke?
Miss Frankie: Um… hey guys.
Terry scowls.
Miss Frankie: Look guys… I know we had our differences and… *Terry’s face softens as well as Korvo and Yumyulack* and I was wrong to treat you like shit. You guys were trying to fit in. Plus, I wasn’t here lately because of stupid car rent. *remorsefully* I am so sorry for treating like fucked up outcasts. *Korvo and Terry feel sympathy upon realizing she is telling the truth* And I am so sorry. I used to like sci-fi stuff as a kid but my parents wanted me to be a teacher. I know you don’t deserve my forgiveness because for what I did to you guys which are things hurt you… but all I can say is this… I am truly sorry Korvo…
Korvo smiles.
Korvo: Apology accepted Frankie.
Miss Frankie smiles and leaves with Cooke.
Terry: Huh?
Terry then smiles as he watches Cooke and Frankie leaves. Terry then decided to give Frankie another chance too as he placed a hand on Korvo.
Terry: Y’know, despite all the horrible things she has done, I think Frankie deserves that chance.
Korvo: Yeah. So…wanna fool around?
Terry: Hell yeah! *picks up Korvo bridal style and heads into their house.
Yumyulack sighs before looking up at the sky as Perfect For Me by Justin Timberlake (cover by Julia Michaels) plays:
[YUMYULACK]
Mm Mm, mm
I know your favorite song I hear it everyday Whoever made your smile Made it to get in my way And every time you laugh You make that little sound It's just the hardest thing To love you but not know how
So I spend all my nights in the dark and afraid 'Cause I've tried to forget you but these things just don't go away
I hate that you're perfect, perfect for me If I didn't know better, then I would believe We were made for each other, but I'd know the truth You're no good for me, I'm no good for you And I hate that you're perfect You're perfect for me I hate that you're perfect You're perfect for me
What good are words when they always just get in our way And it hurts the most just to know that you don't feel the same, the same So sometimes I get down on my knees and I pray things will change But life is what happens when things they don't work out our way, our way
So I spend all my nights in the dark and afraid, mm 'Cause I've tried to forget you but these things just don't go away, away
I hate that you're perfect, perfect for me If I didn't know better, then I would believe We were made for each other, but I'd know the truth You're no good for me, I'm no good for you And I hate that you're perfect You're perfect for me (yeah, yeah, hey) I hate that you're perfect You're perfect for me
Yumyulack sighs.
Yumyulack: I think this might be a new thing that I might like. Glad Daryl still loves me…
We then cut to the Wall where a Bowinian prophet is looking at a piece of paper that reads “Bowinian Church Taken Down”
Bowinian Prophet: *sighs*
???: *offscreen* You got the news?
Bowinian Prophet: Y-yes?
???: Looks like we have much to discuss.
Bowinian Prophet: Wh-what?
???: Trust me. You’ll want to hear this.
The Bowinian Prophet follows the offscreen figure.

Dark Desires October Masterlist
Once I finish Fresh Start, my next post will be on October 1st, and I'll be aiming to post 1 part of a fic EVERY DAY in October! Some of these are based on your requests; here's what you're in for! These aren't in any official order yet (with the exception of the last one, I think!), so if there's one you really want to see let me know! While I've currently planned for these fics to fill all 31 days of the month, if you have a creepy, dark idea feel free to submit a request! (If I don't get to it in October, I will eventually!) TW: Most of these are quite dark (because, y'know... Halloween), and some involve non-con, dub-con, or consensual non-consent. Specific warnings will of course be added to the fics as I update them.
"Unjust Reward" (request from @terrysilv): Complete! Part 1 here! A dark non-con with KK3 Terry. Daniel warns Reader that Terry is nothing but trouble, and she tries to avoid him, but when she's being chased by a group of men she turns to Terry's dojo for help. He swoops in to save the day, but expects something in return...
"Disorderly Conduct": Complete! Part 1 here! A dark Reader x Cash fic. (Takes place before events of the movie) "Heirloom" (request from @hopes-handicrafts): Complete! Part 1 here! An enemies to lovers fic with Jan Valek. Reader is Jack Crow's daughter and a vamp-hunter-in-training. When Valek attacks the old Catholic school where the Black Cross of Berziers is kept and discovers Crow's daughter is a student, he kidnaps her and takes her with him, hoping that Jack will take the bait...
"Scream for Me": In Progress! Part 1 here! [Finished for DDO; Happy-go-lucky follow up to come... maybe] Part of the "Fresh Start" universe! A dark CK Terry x Reader fic. Reader makes the mistake of telling Terry that she can't believe he was ever scary, and certainly isn't that way anymore. Terry decides to teach her a lesson, hunting her in their own home until she admits that he is still very much something to fear...
"All's Fair" (request from @terrysilv): In Progress! Part 1 here! A dark KK3 Terry. Reader has been dating Terry for awhile, and he's been patient. When she surprises him with a date at their local funfair, he thinks she'll be willing to finally make their relationship physical. At the top of the ferris wheel, he makes his move...
"In Deep Water" (anonymous request): In Progress! Part 1 here! A dark non-con with Gus Travis. Reader is an undercover cop who has gotten in with Gus's gang to get the dirt on him and Malcolm. Gus gets wind of your deception and decides to punish you - for lying, for making him fall for you, for everything. "Clear as Mud": A dark non-con with KK3 Terry. Reader pushes Terry too far asking him about his time in the Vietnam War. He does his best to describe the fear of being stalked through the jungle, but doesn't feel like he's doing it justice, and decides to help her experience it for herself... "Solar Flare": The OC x Valek romance fic I've been babbling about for awhile! Rose is forcibly turned into a weapon by the Catholic Church to help them hunt down vampires, but their ritual goes wrong. Inexplicably drawn to Valek, Rose slowly falls for the world's first vampire as they struggle to stay alive and search for a cure together. "[Currently Untitled CK Terry is a Stalker]": CK Terry x Reader fic. Terry can't help himself; what started as innocent snooping around Cobra Kai's biggest obstacle for dominance of the Valley (Reader) has escalated into full on stalking. He can't keep himself from watching your every move, stealing into your home in the dead of night... wanting. But how far will he take things? "A Tale of Two Terrys: Masquerade": In this much anticipated sequel (well, I've been looking forward to writing more, anyway), CK Terry plans a masquerade at his and Reader's manor for Halloween. He's planned for a special guest to join them, but how long will it take reader to recognize them? And what do they plan on doing with her once she does?

Powers and Abilities
Electronic Consciousness: His mutation from the Excalibur shuttle accident made Hank a being of pure energy. Allowing his consciousness to be transfer between electronic bodies, he is able to use this to take control of nearby machines to add to his current body or complete tasks his current body cannot achieve.
Kryptonian Cyborg Body: Having stolen and cybernetically revived Kal-El’s corps, Hank has access to all of Superman’s powers and abilities.
Solar Radiation Absorption: The ‘main’ ability of Kryptonians is the ability to absorb solar radiation. Depending on the wavelength of solar radiation, they can gain super human abilities. Their powers also depend on the amount of radiation absorbed.
Super Strength: Hank is much stronger than he once was in a normal human body.
Super Speed: Hank can move faster than the eye can see, while not as fast as experienced Speedsters, he can hold his own in a race.
Unlimited Stamina: Due to his mechanical body, Hank does not tire. Even if his solar battery is depleted, he will not lose stamina.
Flight: Hank is able to fly due to gravity manipulation tech in his body.
Heat Vision: Hank can fire beams of intense heat by concentrating. This ability was altered by Darkseid to fire specifically Red Solar Radiation to combat Doomsday.
Super Senses: Hank has a variety of super senses due to his Kryptonian Cyborg body; he can hear sounds far away and on a larger frequency than humans, he can see further away, on the sub atomic level, the EM spectrum, heat and through everything but lead.
Computer Memory: Due to his brain essentially being a computer, Hank has perfect memory and can easily learn any skill he needs to complete tasks.
Hacking: Hank can send his consciousness into computers and databases to hack them for information.
Self-Subsistence: Due to most of his body being robotic in nature, Hank does not need to eat, sleep or hydrate to live.
Intimidation: Hank is an intimidating figure to behold, he has instilled fear in the hearts of many people since his true nature was revealed.
Equipment
Yellow Lantern Ring: Hank has instilled great fear in a number of heroes and villains alike. This has earned him a Yellow Lantern Ring and a position of authority in the Yellow Lantern Corps.
Fear Empowerment: Users who wear the Yellow Lantern Ring gain an unnerving aura about them. Any Fear the User instills on a Subject (those who don’t have the Ring) will aid in powering the Ring.
Yellow Energy Constructs: Users of a Yellow Lantern Ring can create energy constructs by willing them into existence. Typically the constructs of Yellow Lanterns take the form of something frightful to the Subject , in order to further power the ring. If the User knows the fear of a Subject, they can make a specific construct of that Fear to enhance the power gained from the Subject. Constructs can be manipulated to allow certain people or objects to pass through them, become transparent or opaque, or radiate certain wavelengths like Kryptonite. It is only limited by the knowledge and imagination of the User.
Kryptonian Charging: By attuning their constructs or energy blasts to the wavelength of a yellow solar radiation, Users of a Yellow Lantern Ring can charge a Kryptonian’s solar battery.
Force Field Generation: A Yellow Lantern Ring can generate a force field around the User to protect them from harmful environments.
Energy Blasts: A Yellow Lantern Ring can fire blasts of energy. The energy are typically lasers or plasma in nature. The Energy blasts can be attuned to different wavelengths.
Phasing: A User can phasing through objects they normally cannot pass through, this takes considerable effort and energy from the Ring’s battery.
Universal Translator: Yellow Power Rings, being based off the Green Lantern Power Rings, will automatically translate spoken word into language the User can understand and translate the words of the User.
Energy Absorption: The Yellow Lantern Ring can absorb a variety of energies; from technological, magical and alien.
Genetic Lock: The Yellow Lantern Ring is genetically locked to the User, so no one except the User or those genetically similar to them can use it.
Scanning/Playback: The Yellow Lantern Ring can scan the environment in a variety of ways and playback recent events as energy constructs.
Wormhole Generation: The Yellow Lantern Ring can allow the User to enter hyperspace to travel great distances in little time, this takes concentration to maintain the wormhole and emerge unscathed. If multiple Users use the same wormhole it becomes easier to maintain.
Limited Cellular Regeneration: The Yellow Lantern Ring will automatically attempt to heal it’s User if they are damaged. However, it can only do so much.
Yellow Lantern Battery: A Power Battery in the shape of a yellow Lantern, it’s handles resemble the Symbol of Fear. Yellow Lanterns use these to recharge their Rings.
Earth-96 Story
Hank Henshaw is an interesting character. More interesting than a lot of Superman’s other villains in my opinion.  His whole identity is based around destroying Superman’s image, and that worked. Then DC took that away while turning him into a Green Lantern villain. While making him the villain to more than one hero is nice, especially given how he destroyed the hometown of Hal Jordan, it takes away from the focus of his motivation and primary target; Superman and his legacy.
This is why on Earth-96, in probably the ballsiest thing I am doing and going along with the ‘No Resurrections unless it’s an essential part of their Character’ Rule, Hank uses Clark’s actual body to aid in his quest to destroy Superman’s image and legacy. This allows a setup for Jonathan, Clark and Lois’ son, to become the new Superman and have a major villain to face in trying to reclaim his father’s body back.
This doesn't mean Hank won’t be a Yellow Lantern, he’s still a very intimidating figure in the super community because he complete disregard for respecting the dead and his willingness to do horrible things to destroy Superman’s legacy, making him a perfect agent in commanding the Yellow Lantern Corps.

Dust Volume 6, Number 5
Tumblr media
Courtney Marie Andrews
The lockdown continues, and live music has disappeared, replaced by a somewhat antiseptic and unsatisfying spate of live streamed shows mostly one person with a guitar on the couch in their living room.  We salute the courage and the effort but miss bands and audiences and even the chatter drifting in from the bar area.  In the meantime, at least for now, there are still lots of new records vying for our attention.  We present this Dust to catch up with some of them.  It’s an ecletic survey of contemporary classical, vengeful hip hop, psyche, jazz, folk and metal artists, all continuing to try to navigate a very difficult period.  Our writers this time include many of the usual suspects, Bill Meyer, Ray Garraty, Jonathan Shaw, Andrew Forell, Tim Clarke, Jennifer Kelly, Tobias Carroll and Patrick Masterson.
a•pe•ri•od•ic—For (New Focus Recordings)
for a•pe•ri•od•ic by a•pe•ri•od•ic
Silence is a rhythm, too, and a•pe•ri•od•ic dances to it repeatedly throughout their second recording. The Chicago-based ensemble has traversed the new music continuum, performing music by composers from Peter Ablinger to Christian Wolff. Sometimes that silence isn’t quite what you want to hear — the COVID-19 pandemic cut short its tenth anniversary spring season one concert too soon — but it proves to be rich loam from which to grow music on this CD. All four of its pieces were composed specifically for the group by individuals who recognize the merit of non-imposing sounds. That knowledge derives in part from the fact that three of the composers also perform with the group, but also from their long-standing engagement with post-Cage-ian and Wandelweiser material. Director and pianist Nomi Epstein’s descriptively entitled “Combine, Juxtapose, Delayed Overlap” feels like a ceremony intermittently perceived through an opening and closing door. Billie Howard’s “Roll” tucks the composer’s whispering violin behind muted French horn and voice, wringing intensity from the effort one must apply to following its retreating sonorities. Vocalist Kenn Klumpf’s “Triadic Expansions (2)” moves in the other direction, sprouting ivy-like from the slenderest branches of sound. By comparison, Michael Pisaro’s stately “festhalten/loslassen” is a veritable riot of unwinding tonal colors. As the decade ticks towards year eleven, rest assured that a•pe•ri•od•ic is searching for the next promising idea.

Agallah — Fuck You The Album (Propain Campain)
Fuck You The Album by Agallah
This is a personal vendetta album. After more than 25 years in the game, Agallah has got to settle the score against the whole world. To say he just has a chip on his shoulder would an understatement. Thirteen songs of pure hate with the title quite properly reflecting its content. In his fight, the rapper strips down all the artistry, including the production. Known for making beats for other hip hop acts, Agallah here not only uses barely serviceable beats, he doesn’t even makes pretense he needs beats. Almost all the tracks work as a capellas. His gruffy voice and arrogant flow don’t need sonic support. And what support can you expect from the world full of phonies, liars, actors, pretenders, cowards and fair weather friends? “Stop pretending, my career is not ending,” he almost screams on “Telling Lies To Me.” If this CD feels like a dinosaur in 2020, then it says that it is not something wrong with this album but with the world.
Ray Garraty
Courtney Marie Andrews — “Burlap String” single (Fat Possum)
Old Flowers by Courtney Marie Andrews
As the eponymous song of 2018’s May Your Kindness Remain amply demonstrated, Courtney Marie Andrews’ pipes are not to be fucked with. But while that was perhaps the most vivid depiction yet of her abilities, the Phoenix native’s delivery can be just as powerful on a muzzle. Such has been her approach thus far with what we’ve heard from Old Flowers, originally slated for an early June release but since pushed back to July (or beyond, who knows). The post-breakup lyrical territory was initially revealed with first single “If I Told,” but it’s the gently loping “Burlap String” I’ve had on repeat for much of the past month. Ever ended a relationship with someone and regretted it? Lush piano and a sighing slide guitar tell you Courtney has without her ever having to utter a word, and much of the song is an illustration of the internal conflict that lingers long after you’ve made the call. I’m inclined to write out the whole second verse here, but it’s the end of the third that lingers as Andrews evokes barely holding back tears: There’s no replacing someone like you. That ensuing pause runs bone-deep, its implication clear — no amount of Mary Oliver can save you from yourself.
Patrick Masterson
Dennis Callaci — The Dead of the Day (Shrimper Records)
youtube
Some albums could be said to hum. In the case of the latest from Dennis Callaci, that’s meant literally: many of the songs on his new album The Dead of the Day feature warm clouds of feedback or droning organ notes. It’s a companion piece to his recent book 100 Cassettes, which features thoughts on musical icons throughout the year. This album’s focus is more insular: some of the songs have a drifting, improvised feel to them. But Callaci also taps into some terrifically subdued songwriting veins here — “Broadway Blues Pt. II” recalls the haunted dub-folk of Souled American, and Franklin Bruno’s piano lends a propulsive dimension to the ruminative title track. And on “Scoreless,” Callaci teams with his Refrigerator bandmate (and brother) Allen Callaci for a song that slowly builds from acoustic foundations to something modestly grandiose. Contrary to what its title might suggest, this album feels very much like a document of one man’s life.
Tobias Carroll
Cameron / Carter / Håker Flaten — Tau Ceti (Astral Spirits)
Tau Ceti by Cameron / Carter / Håker Flaten
Tau Ceti is a planet that is hypothesized to be similar enough to Earth that it could potentially support similar life forms. The three musicians that recorded this tape may come not come from the same system, but they fall into a harmonious orbit around a common circumstance — they were all in the same swanky studio, Halversonics, on a particular winter day in early 2019. One supposes that whatever they were rotating, they move towards the source of heat, since Tau Ceti builds slowly from chill acoustic exploration to a fuzzed-out solar flare. As they progress, abstraction burns away and velocity increases. It’s a gas to hear Ingebrigt Håker Flaten and Lisa Cameron lock in behind Tom Carter’s increasingly gritty sound-bursts.
Bill Meyer
 Tim Daisy — Sereno (Relay)
Tim Daisy - Sereno :: music for marimba, turntables and percussion (relay 028) by Tim Daisy
Sometimes the timing of even the most tuned-in drummer is foiled by external circumstances. Sereno was supposed to signal the end of an intense phase of solo practice by Tim Daisy. His intentions for 2020 included making an album of duets and writing music for two ensembles. But at press time he, like everyone else, is hunkered down with his family, and everything he had planned is on hold.
Daisy’s stint as a primarily solo artist coincided with a reconsideration of identity; he wasn’t just a drummer, but a multi-instrumentalist and an orchestrator of electro-acoustic sound. Sereno is split between three elegiac marimba solos that showcase Daisy’s instinct for deliberate melodic development and five much denser constructions for imprecisely tuned radios, playing and skipping records, and Daisy’s strategically reflective drumming. If this record is the only new music that Daisy puts out this year, it leaves us with plenty to think about.
Bill Meyer
Kaja Draksler & Terrie Ex — The Swim (Terp)
Tumblr media
On the surface, this looks like quite the odd couple. Terrie Ex Is a Dutch electric guitarist in his mid-60s who still goes by his punk rock name. He’s a ferocious improviser whose scrabbling instrumental attack incurs intensity from any ensemble that doesn’t want to get bowled over, and he knows more Ethiopian tunes by heart than anyone on your block. Kaja Draksler is a Slovenian pianist exactly half his age whose recent projects include a fast-paced, idiosyncratically balanced trio with Petter Eldh and Christian Lillinger, and an octet for which she sets Robert Frost poems to a combination of chanson, Baroque chamber music, and thorny free improvisation. But neither got where they are by letting fear deter them from a musical challenge, and both of them have a fine awareness that one way of understanding their respective instruments is that they are pieces of wood with wires attached. Given that common understanding of music as a combination of coexisting textures and assertive actions, they work together quite well on this CD, which documents a performance that took place at London’s Café Oto in 2018. Scrape meets sigh, jagged fish-hook pluck meets sparse wire-damped drizzle, instinct meets intuition, and when the disc is done, it’ll seem quite sensible to dive back in and swim the whole length in reverse.
Bill Meyer
Errant — S/T EP (Manatee Rampage Recordings)
errant by errant
Errant is the one-woman project of Rae Amitay. Some listeners of metal music may be familiar with Amitay’s work, as vocalist for death-grind-hybridists Immortal Bird and as drummer for the folk-metal act Thrawsunblat. For Errant, Amitay has created songs and sounds that have little in common with those other bands’ aesthetic extremities. “The Amorphic Burden” may prompt you to recall the melodic black metal that Ludicra was making toward the end of that band’s storied run, or the sludgy drama of Agrimonia’s most recent record. In any case, Errant’s sound skews toward more luminescent atmospheres. Production values are largely pristine; Amitay wants you to hear clearly every string and cymbal strike. It makes sense. She plays a bunch of instruments well, and that’s part of the point: that one woman is producing all the sounds, and all the affect. She ends the EP with a cover of Failure’s “Saturday Savior,” and it’s the least interesting thing on the record. But even there, she presents the listener with something worth hearing. Her clean vocals are lovely, disarmingly so. What may be most impressive about this early iteration of Errant is the extent of Amitay’s talents, and how those talents allow her to encroach on the hyper-masculine territory of the “one-man” act.
Jonathan Shaw
Field Works — Ultrasonic (Temporary Residence)
Ultrasonic by Field Works
Stuart Hyatt’s latest compilation in the Field Works series is an absolute beauty — and timely given it’s being released during a pandemic whose origins may be linked to bats. The field recordings that the contributors used to create the music on Ultrasonic come from the echolocation of bats, and the approaches tend towards rhythmic or atmospheric. At the rhythmic end of the spectrum we have Eluvium’s majestic opener “Dusk Tempi,” akin to his work on Talk Amongst the Trees. Mary Lattimore’s glimmering harp patterns are fitting accompaniment to the chittering bat sounds on “Silver Secrets.” And Kelly Moran’s prepared piano on “Sodalis” sends the listener down a hall of mirrors, chased by gorgeous bass tones. At the more abstract, atmospheric end of the spectrum we have Jefre Cantu-Ledesma’s radiant “Night Swimming.” Christina Vantzou blurs the line between the sounds of modular synthesis and bat sonar on “Music for a Room with Vaulted Ceiling.” And on Sarah Davachi’s “Marion,” the listener is immersed in a luminous halo of nocturnal overtones. Wherever the artists venture, this is a varied yet consistently evocative collection.
Tim Clarke
FMB DZ — The Gift 3 (Fast Money Boyz / EMPIRE)
youtube
The Gift 3 was initially set to be released in December 2019 but was postponed until now. DZ’s “Merry Christmas, pussies!” on one of the tracks doesn’t sound so odd, though, because the whole world has plunged into a constant holiday. The new album continues two trends. It carries on the “ape” theme from the previous album Ape Season. “Ape Activities,” “Keep It on Me” and “No Features” are the grittiest tracks from a disc where the prevalent mood is a sick worry. DZ made it out of the hood but had to be on the lookout as the enemies are out to get him. The other trend is that The Gift 3 continues the ideas of The Gift series. The songs have a usual verse-hook structure, are poppier and more relaxed than on Ape Season. DZ, thankfully, doesn’t try to sing anymore but hires some singers on choruses. The hardest track here is “High Speed” with Rio Da Yung Og where Detroit/Flint duo spit vicious lines.

  Hala — Red Herring (Cinematic)
youtube
Detroit multi-instrumentalist Ian Ruhala wears his heart dripping from his sleeve on “Red Herring” his latest record as Hala. Skipping from the yacht rock of “Making Me Nervous” to the country blues of “True Colors” via power pop, The Kinks and Tom Petty, Ruhala manages to create a thread with deceptively simple melodies and the sincerity of his delivery.  There’s more than a touch of Kevin Barnes in the voice and the delight in throwing genres at the wall to see what sticks and, like Barnes, some of it fails to adhere. The pleasure here is in the sense of eavesdropping on the process and reveling in unexpected flourishes that refuse to be ignored.
Ruhala writes a smooth love song and isn’t afraid to turn up the guitar or address politics on standout “Lies” - “I’m eating breakfast with the fascists/Oh man they stand about ten feet tall/My mouth is bleeding at their proceedings/They get their courage through a plastic straw” It may not be Guthrie but he makes it work through a leavening wit and a mid-tempo vamp straight from the solar plexus. “Red Herring” suffers somewhat from its stylistic roaming but a fundamental big heartedness and willingness to reach makes it an enjoyable trip.

Las Kellies — Suck This Tangerine (Fire)
youtube
Suck This Tangerine opens with a loose groove and a grime smeared highlife guitar line, the voice enters with ironic invitations over choppy Gang of Four chords. In the new one from Las Kellies, Argentinian duo Cecilia Kelly and Silvina Costa sling taut bass lines and slash guitars over mutant disco rhythms for 12 tracks of slinky indie dance. Drawing on elements from Leeds, London and the Bronx, Kelly and Costa add dubby space and South American humidity to their sound, to elevate the album beyond the sum of its influences.
Kelly handles guitar and bass, wielding the former like a cross between Andy Gill and Viv Albertine and unfurling loose funky serpents with the latter. Costa swings between ESG and The Bush Tetras and incorporates an array of hand drums that deepen and enliven the rhythmic pulse. There is a palpable and joyful chemistry between the two evidenced by their easy interplay and enhanced by the production that gives clarity and elbowroom to each instrument. If the lyrics can tend toward the perfunctory, they are delivered with a winking insouciance on put downs like “Close Talker” and “Rid Of You”.  Suck This Tangerine is a worthy addition to the growing collection of feminist post-punk inspired albums we’ve been dancing to of late.

Mint Mile — Ambertron (Comedy Minus One)
Ambertron by Mint Mile
Silkworm, the band, may have ended in 2005 with the death of drummer Michael Dahlquist, but its legacy of slow, gut-socking heaviness, mordant wit and muscular guitar lives on, first in Bottomless Pit and now in Tim Midyett’s new band Ambertron. Midyett’s voice and clangorous baritone guitar is instantly recognizable, of course, to anyone who loved Silkworm, but the band diverges somewhat with the pedal steel played by Justin Brown of Palliard, weaving eerily though the slow buzz and moan of “Likelihood.” Jeff Panall, from Songs:Ohio, plays the hard, heavy drums that undergird these songs, giving them structure and forward motion. Other players include Matthew Barnhart from Tre Orsi and Horward Draper from Shearwater. Greg Normal of Bitter Tears contributes a mournful bit of trumpet to “Fallen Rock,” and Chicago alt-country mainstay Kelly Hogan takes the lead in “Sang.” The music is raw and morose; even dense strings can’t quite lift the gloom in “Christmas Comes and Goes,” a song as raw as late November in Chicago. And yet there’s a sort of resilience in it, a strength that comes through persistence. “If we could only find a way to bank the time we had together,” sings Midyett in “Giving Love,” his hoarse voice full of ragged loss, his guitar raging against it all and not quite beaten down even now.

Gard Nilssen’s Supersonic Orchestra — If You Listen Carefully the Music Is Yours (Odin)
If You Listen Carefully The Music Is Yours by Gard Nilssen´s Supersonic Orchestra
Perched atop his drum stool, Gard Nilssen sits where styles converge. He’s supplied the controlled boil that drives the free-bop combo Cortex, laid down some heavier beats with Bushman’s Revenge and exemplified long-form lucidity with his own trio, Acoustic Unity. In 2019, the Molde Jazz Festival recognized his versatility and forward perspective by anointing him the artist in residence. Besides showcasing his ongoing projects and accompanying heavy guests from abroad, most notably Bill Frisell, he got to put together a dream project. This 16-piece big band, which includes members of Cortex, Acoustic Unity, and the Trondheim Jazz Orchestra, is it. With the assistance of co-arranger André Roligheten, Nilssen has taken some of his trio’s sturdy melodies and turned them into frameworks for boisterous but subtly colored performances. With three basses and three drummers, this could have been either a mess or an uptight game of “you first,” “no sir after you.” But the rhythm crew shifts easily between swinging unisons and refractory elaborations. Roligheten often plays two saxophones at once in smaller settings, and one suspects that he has a lot to do with the rich colors that the horns paint around the featured soloists.

Matthew J. Rolin — Ohio (Garden Portal)
Ohio by Matthew J. Rolin
The ghoulish image on the j-card belies the sounds encoded upon this tape. Matthew J. Rolin is a relative newcomer to the practice of acoustic guitar performance; the earliest release on his Bandcamp page was recorded in late 2017. But he’s catching on fast. Switching between six and twelve-string guitars, he serves up equal measures of ingratiating lyricism and immersive surrender to pure sound. Opener “Red Brick” slots into the former category, with a heart-tugging melody that keeps doling out turns that’ll keep you wondering where it’s going and backtracks that’ll ensure that you never feel lost. “Brooklyn Centre,” on the other hand, grows filaments of string sound out of a pool of prayer bowl resonance centering enough to make you cancel your mindfulness app subscription due to perceived lack of need. Rolin develops ideas situated between these poles over the rest of this brief set, which runs just shy of 28 minutes and definitely leaves one wanting a bit more.

Nick Storring — My Magic Dreams Have Lost Their Spell (Orange Milk)
My Magic Dreams Have Lost Their Spell by Nick Storring
What Jim O’Rourke did for the music of Van Dyke Parks and John Fahey on Bad Timing, Nick Storring does for Roberta Flack’s on My Magic Dreams Have Lost Their Spell. The Canadian composer may not have O’Rourke’s name recognition or past membership in a very famous rock band going for him, but consider these parallels. He’s a handy with quite a few instruments, he’s an inveterate assistant to other artists across disciplinary lines, and he functions with equal commitment and fluency in a variety of genres. For this record, his first to be pressed on vinyl (albeit in miniscule numbers), Storring uses the lush string sound of Flack’s 1970s hits as a launching point for deep sonic immersions that are considerably more emotionally oblique than their inspirations’ articulations of loneliness and surrender. When he goes melodic, the cello-led tunes seem to reach for something that they never touch, and when he goes for slow-motion density, the music imparts an experience akin to watching the sort of cinematic experience where you can’t tell if you’re seeing a really slow take or the film has frozen at a single frame.

Sunn Trio — Electric Esoterica (Twenty One Eight Two Recording Company)
Electric Esoterica by Sunn Trio
Sunn Trio, from Arizona, makes sprawling, multi-ethnic psychedelia that juxtaposes the scree and groan of heavy improvisational rock with the otherly chords and rhythms of the Middle East.  Opener “Alhiruiyn” slicks a trebly sheen over its surging, rampaging improvisations, more in the vein of Black Sun Ensemble than Cem Karaca.  But “Majoun” layers antic percussion and tone-shifting bent notes in a limber evocation of the souk.  “Roktabija The Promulgator” blasts a strident, swaggering surf riff, about as Arabic as “Miserlou” (which is, in fact, Arabic).  “Khons at Karnak” buzzes with hard rock aggression, but shimmies with belly dancing syncopation.  Because of the name, the preoccupation with non-Western cultures and the Phoenix mailing address, you might think that Sunn Trio is aligned somehow with Sun City Girls, but no.  All kinds of weirdness lurks in the desert out there, lucky for us.

Turbo, Gunna & Young Thug — “Quarantine Clean” single (Playmakers)
youtube
Despite the subject matter’s potential (ahem) virality, “Quarantine Clean” slipped out almost unnoticed in early April and is the kind of muted performance Young Thug doesn’t get enough credit for (while, curiously, his followers often get too much derision for). For all of Thugger’s hyperfluorescent hijinx over the years that have produced earworms like, say, “That’s All” and “Wyclef Jean,” there’s another side that shows up in stuff like “The Blanguage” and “Freaky” where he lets the words do the work; that’s the subterranean sonic world we’re living in here as he opines on God’s role in the pandemic and why he’s lost so much money but still has to pay for his parents’ penthouse (which: welcome to the revolution, pal). Thug’s acolyte in slime Gunna, meanwhile, does most of the song’s heavy lifting with duties on the first verse and chorus, but it’s pretty hard to tell the two apart, such is the slippery restraint both opt to exercise here. The real star, then, is beatmaker Turbo, whose buoyant anchor melody is complemented by what sounds like a lilting flute. It’s a light touch from all parties, a mellow mood well suited to our time of collective party-eschewing shelter. Run that back in prudence.

Various Artists—Ten Years Gone (A Tribute to Jack Rose) (Tompkins Square)
Ten Years Gone : A Tribute to Jack Rose by Various Artists
A decade on from the too early passing of the great American Primitive/blues/raga player Jack Rose, Arborea’s Buck Curran gathers friends, collaborators and younger artists inspired by Rose for a gorgeous tribute to the master. Mike Gangloff, who played with Rose in Pelt and Black Twig Pickers, leads off with a plaintive, sepia-toned fiddle lament (“The Other Side of Catawbwa”), while next generation experimental droner Prana Crafter closes with an expansive, space folk reverie (“High Country Dynamo”). In between, old friends like Sir Richard Bishop evoke Rose’s full-blown orchestral guitar playing (“By Any Other Name”) while young pickers like Matt Sowell take up the trail forged by Dr. Ragtime. Isasa from Spain and Paulo Laboule Novellino from Italy attest to Rose’s global appeal. It’s mostly guitar, but not entirely; Helena Espvall from Espers contributes a brooding, reverberant “Alcantara” on cello. Curran’s own “Greenfields of America (Spiritual for Jack Rose)” is slow and thoughtful, letting long bent notes ring out with liquid clarity; it’s a hymn and a prayer and a testimony to the wide influence of an artist gone too soon.

Emily Jane White — Immanent Fire (Talitres)
Immanent Fire by Emily Jane White
Emily Jane White gets tagged as a folk singer, but on this, her sixth full-length, the Oakland songwriter brings a fair amount of goth-tinged drama. Taut string arrangements and big booming drums lift “Infernal” well out of the woman-with-guitar category, and White sounds more like PJ Harvey or even Chelsea Wolfe than a sweet voiced strummer. Immanent Fire sticks, topically, to environmental concerns with track titles like “Washed Away,” “Drowned” and “Metamorphosis.” A foreboding creeps through the songs, pretty as they are, even piano lit “Dew” asks “Does poison drop like the dew?” Arrangements, by Anton Patzner, the composer, arranger and violinist of Foxtails Brigade and Judgment Day, give these cuts weight and heft, punctuating eerie melodies with thick swathes of strings, rumbling percussion and keyboards. The disc culminates in “Light” which begins in a whisper and climaxes in drum-shocked, orchestral swoon. Soothing background music it is not.

Z-Ro — Quarantine: Social Distancing (1 Deep Entertainment / EMPIRE)
youtube
An unexpected seven-track EP bears an expected title from a Dirty South legend. Z-Ro’s usual topics — trust and loneliness — gain a new meaning in the time of social distancing. To keep away women who only want his money is a necessary precaution now. To be at the corner at the party is a rule for survival. Z-Ro is on his ground counting his dough alone in the house. Earlier he did it so no ‘shife’ (the title of one of the tracks) friends could rob him, now it’s just to obey quarantine rules. The first half of this EP is a bit muddled by unnecessary intros and reggae tunes but the second one hits hard. As always with Z-Ro, the hardest content takes the gentlest form (“Niggas is Hoes” especially is almost a pop song). On the final track “Life of the Party” Boosie Badazz drops by, giving his verdict on the pandemic: “Fuck Corona!”

Saariselka - The Ground Our Sky
An absolutely perfect collab between Marielle Jakobsons (Fender Rhodes, organ, synthesizers) and Chuck Johnson (pedal steel guitar and treatments) that delivers on the promise of their recent Longform Editions contribution -- and then some! The Ground Our Sky is a spacial/glacial trip, with Jakobsons’ Terry Riley-esque keyboards melding magnificently with Johnson’s solar flare pedal steel. Mostly instrumental, but the two vocal pieces are great, too — Jakobsons’ goth-y turn on “Into The Wind” makes me think of Kendra Smith, while “The Void” is a gorgeous slo-mo pop song that suggests that sometimes when you stare into the abyss, the abyss smiles back.
