thinking abt jeyne westerling and how she didn't know enough. She knows how to heal robb, but not enough to know her mother's posset was poisoning her womb. She knows this is probably the highest match her house has made johanna westerling ruled the Rock, and she doesn't know her mother's eyes are still set on the Rock. She goes to the sept cloaked in seashells, knowing she's part of the fairytale, and doesn't know she's the maiden to be fed to the dragon by her elders.
Tumblr media
Didn't know if conches and seashells were common, so went hunting, and I find another coat of arms

that belongs to house Spencer
Tumblr media
Yes, that house spencer. Another fairytale wedding doomed at the off. Another maiden fed to a dragon by her elders. ASOS came out in 2000.

I dunno man. Maybe canon will prove me wrong, but I don't think the name Kiriona was forced on Gideon. Gideon, who has wanted her whole life to feel like she's wanted by someone and belongs somewhere. If her newly-found father took her aside and said "In the language of my grandparents, our ancestors, your name is pronounced Kiriona. I would like to call you that, to save on confusion." I just... I think she'd be cool with saying yes.
She doesn't really identify with it, and she has highly ambivalent feelings about the father in question, but the name Kiriona connects her with grandparents. It might have been what her great-grandmother would have called her, if things had ever been simple and kind enough that they could have met. Kiriona offers her a place to belong in connection with the generations before her. As much as it's not enough, not on its own and as isolated from those generations and that culture as she is, its also not nothing. And I can't believe it's less than nothing.

MAD MAX (1979) dir. George Miller + NA NA NA (2010) dir. Robert Schober, Gerard Way
"I wanted to make this concept album that connected with the [Killjoys] comic. But because of that, I had changed some things about it for the sake of being part of MCR, and I made things a little more dystopian, a little more like a colourful punk-rock post-Mad Max thing." - Gerard Way

Idea
Satanus is overthrown (Blaze or Neron, don’t matter) and getting dumped on earth in human form, which is just a fairly tan/sun kissed man with wavy black hair in braids for an idea of what he ends up looking like, and what’s a former ruler of hell to do to reclaim his throne and powers but to go to his kinda brother for help!
Cue the JL being baffled at Lord Satanus in human guise demanding to see some brother (bc he knows what company Billy keeps) and they’re just trying to figure out if helping him would be a net good or bad bc on one hand, he’s not as active or malicious an antagonistic force as his sister or Neron, but on the other hand it’s helping to give a demon his powers back to rule literal Hell. When they ask who exactly his brother is he says, “Captain Marvel, the Batson boy, the Big Red Cheese of Fawcett or whatever it is you mortals call him outside his official titles!” And they just have to do some punnet squares in their heads because what?
Anyway, Cap and Satanus talk, JLD is brought in, they agree that “Yeah, better the devil you know then the devil you don’t, plus this one would owe us a favor” and decide to help Satanus before Neron/Blaze can do any damage in their new position

Sometimes you have an idea/argument/theory that is suitable for an essay. Maybe even a thesis. Other times you have one that looks like this:

Sometimes enjoying making baby quilts means texting your sister-in-law to say "hey I am facebook friends with [name] and I want to offer her a baby quilt but I don't remember who she is. I think I met her at your wedding?" and then when SIL texts back, messaging the facebook friend with "Hey! I don't know if you remember me, we met at [SIL's name]'s wedding, I am [SIL's husband aka my brother]'s sister, and I make baby quilts. Can I make one for you?" Like, hey total stranger I met one time more than a decade ago, I think we were bridesmaids together can I make you a baby quilt?

"even though aang is the protagonist, sokka is the social center of the gaang," i say into the mic.
the crowd boos. i begin to walk off the stage in shame, when a voice commands silence from the room.
"he’s right." i look to the owner of the voice. there in the 5th row stands: avatar aang himself

“Now, then, you look beautiful!” said Tenar in her seamstress’s pride, when Therru first tried it on.
Therru turned her face away.
“You are beautiful,” Tenar said in a different tone. “Listen to me, Therru. Come here. You have scars, ugly scars, because an ugly, evil thing was done to you. People see the scars. But they see you, too, and you aren’t the scars. You aren’t ugly. You aren’t evil. You are Therru, and beautiful. You are Therru who can work, and walk, and run, and dance, beautifully, in a red dress.”
The child listened, the soft, unhurt side of her face as expressionless as the rigid, scar-masked side.
She looked down at Tenar’s hands, and presently touched them with her small fingers. “It’s a beautiful dress,” she said in her faint, hoarse voice.
When Tenar was alone, folding up the scraps of red material, tears came stinging into her eyes. She felt rebuked. She had done right to make the dress, and she had spoken the truth to the child. But it was not enough, the right and the truth. There was a gap, a void, a gulf, on beyond the right and the truth. Love, her love for Therru and Therru’s for her, made a bridge across that gap, a bridge of spiderweb, but love did not fill or close it. Nothing did that. And the child knew it better than she.”
- Tehanu, Ursula K. LeGuin

There's this (generally justified) idea that Europe has the old buildings and the US has the new buildings, but this doesn't always hold true, especially when it comes to residential property. I hear Europeans talking about how their homes are so old because they were built in the 1910s or 1900s... or even the 1890s! And I always get confused because... I grew up in a house in the US that was built in 1750. And it wasn't even exceptional. That's just normal for us.
And now I'm living in a building here in Germany, where standards are different (especially in Berlin, where most of the old buildings sadly got bombed to shit) and I constantly have to add disclaimers when talking to my American friends and family about it.
"My building is really old, so we've got–well, I mean, it's from 1907, but that's considered old here–so we've got these charming old faded paintings on the walls in the entry hall..."

One of my favorite tropes is an evil guy pretending to be friends with the protagonists and then accidentally growing to like them before their true identity is revealed (The Big Bad Friend + Becoming the Mask). There's something so delightfully wholesome about the concept, and that's probably why it crops up in children's stories so often.
Of course, it didn't end very wholesomely in Mizumono, but whatever. I like it even better when The Big Bad is still evil at the end.
