IMPORTANT EDIT: HEY I did some of these sketches a couple of weeks ago and I completely forgot that some of the pencil sketches were from references by the incredible @sweepy-stringbean, who has a load more (a lot cooler) tenar and lark art to look at! I completely forgot to reference, and I’m mostly just doing sketches from photo references now, but if I use an art reference again I will be sure to mention. Apologies for the fuck-up. :)

Chrissy and Robin especially think it's adorable.

Ssst by Sore.

2017 gua tahu Sore. Rada telat, karena ni aslinya tenar di 2005an, terlebih banyak lagunya dipake di filmnya Jokan. Ya maklum, baru nyoba dengar-dengar lagu indie tahun-tahun segitu wkkwwk.

2017 ngedonlot album yg Sorealist. Ini album kompilasi dari hits single album-album Sore yg sebelumnya dan ada juga beberapa lagu yg baru.

2017, jaman kape/kerja praktik di LBME. Pulang-pergi naik TJ. Masuk selalu pagi sebelum jam 8, pulang pasti nyampe rumah sekitar jam 7 atau 8. 12 jam.

Jaman-jaman itu belum kenal banget dengan spotify, alhasil lagu semua dari donlot bajakan di torrent wkwkwk.

Nah, salah satu lagi yg menemani masa-masa kape ini adalah album Sorealist. Lagu favorit di album itu tentu ini, mungkin Bantal Keras urutan kedua.

Gua gapaham sih kenapa Sore nih enak dipake riuh sendiri gitu aja wkwk, even yg liriknya aneh-aneh macam Setengah Lima, Nancy Bird etc. Somehow gua suka vibesnya dan begitu juga banyak orang lainnya yg suka band ini hehe.

Soal jaman-jaman kape ini, banyak banget nemu lagu-lagu enak, indie nan favorit sampai sekarang.

Di jaman ini juga nemu Adhitia Sofyan dan albumnya yg Quiet Down super enak dan catchy. Terus tahu Oh Wonder juga. Masa-masa kape itu juga Ed Sheeran rilis album Divide dan batal ke Indo gegara kecelakaan sepeda wkwk.

Tapi tetap, highlight tahun itu dan masa-masa kape itu sudah Ssstnya Sore ini. Walaupun bingung maksudnya apa.

Sing penting, jangan kau buang yang merasakan berjiwa, di samping lawan.

Wkwkw gajelas anjer.

Kerjaan ini makin nguras kejiwaan haha.

Because I left me sketchbook somewhere and it’ll take me a bit longer to get all my tenar/nancy sketches to you guys, here’s a little tenar doodle while you wait:

So. Tenlark. Who’s the ‘fell first’ and who’s the ‘fell harder’ (If it even applies at all?)

boy oh boy okay let's get into it

it's difficult to say because the original script doesn't actually have a romance between them. buuuut if you're reading between the lines (as all good wlw shippers do) then it's probably Tenar who falls first.

this is partially because Tenar, who grew up being treated like a dainty princess in her castle, associates Lark with the wild sort of freedom she's always desired and envied (Lark associates Tenar with power and influence, things she's never had, but that's less romantic). but it's also partially because by the time Tenar and Lark had actual scenes together, Nancy was kind of in the middle of falling for Robin and she didn't really understand it.

Robin knows she's gay before she even meets Nancy, so she can recognize her crush on Nancy right away, which makes it easier to separate that from her portrayal of Lark. Nancy's experience is a bit more muddled. She's never considered the idea that she could be gay and she doesn't realize she's crushing on Robin right away, and while she's a great actress, she can't help but let a bit more of her growing fondness for Robin slip into Tenar during her scenes with Lark

(this is excluding the slap scene, which is less fond and tender but still brimming with tension from the feelings that Tenar and Lark are hiding from. mostly, though, the reason that scene becomes so impactful is because Nancy and Robin have this amazing chemistry and are so dedicated to making their characters' relationship so much more than a catty cliche. they're bouncing off each other so well in that moment because they're bringing out the best in each other and thriving with the chance to dig deeper into their characters together. still, that fondness bleeds through when Nancy accidentally hits Robin, because their immediate reaction--even when they're both still in character--is to care about each other. which leads to guilt and hurt in that scene rather than the anger and cruelty it originally had in the script)

based on the extremely vague and nowhere near complete idea of the franchise's plot that i have, Tenar probably spends the first two movies falling slowly for Lark. it's not until the third movie--and maybe specifically the night shoot scene where Robin has to catch Nancy and comfort her--that Lark starts falling, too

Latest form of procrastination: creating a gothic tenar stamp with a rubber (eraser) and a compass (the thing you use for drawing circles)

it’s a bit of a mess but first print tests seem to be working ok! Never tried making a stamp like this before. I’m having so much fun. @sweepy-stringbean thought you might want to see this.
