Formal Wear/Polyamory
Temeraire - Granby/Laurence/Tharkay - 250 words - @slashmultiverse prompt, day 2
There was something delicious in seeing both of his lovers dressing in the fineries that they had earned, as much as they disliked them.
Tenzing combed his hair back but refused to wear a wig. He wore a green coat that matched the aviator colors too closely to be coincidental. The look was a calculated dig at high society, but he wore it with his back straight, without a hint of self-consciousness.
Will had a new set of Chinese robes, ultramarine blue and lovingly embroidered with dragons curling along the edges, the mark of the Imperial family. With the rumours of a war over trade on the horizon, it was as good as declaring his allegiance out loud. If the inevitable conflict disturbed him, he didn't let it show.
"Here, let me help," Will said, taking the cloth John had been holding in his good hand. He surrendered it easily.
The silk of Will's ample sleeves was a soft caress on John's skin as he fixed the cravat around his neck with practiced motions. His fingers were warm as they moved over John's body, pinning the medals and adjusting the jacket so it laid more naturally on his shoulders.
Unable to resist the pull, John leaned forward, pressing a soft kiss to Will's lips. Tenzing came closer, laying a hand on the small of his back. Will leaned into it, his hands still grasping John's lapel.
If they were to march into war again, they would do it as one.

lil bit of AC x Temeraire
"Translation error," is Clay's verdict.
"Translation error," Desmond repeats dubiously, staring down at him.
"Yes."
"Uh-huh. And that means what, exactly?"
So many things that he doesn't understand, it turns out. Stuff like how Animus code works and how badly it was originally designed, Abstergo trying to derive from the First Civilisation's work and how it was bungled up. Add into the mix human DNA - Clay's - being translated into Animus simulation which was then translated into whatever the Grand Temple had going on for itself which was then translated yet again into the background processing of the universe, plus the delightfully unstable addition of stray thoughts and the fact that Desmond has slight Piece of Eden infection and apparently the placebo effect is actual fucking magic -
"What?" Desmond asks helplessly.
"Stalk it up as a glitch in the Matrix, times a thousand," Clay concludes. "And don't worry about it."
"Um. No, I don't think I can," Desmond says, emphatically, and motions at him. "Clay, you're a dragon."
Clay looks down at himself, at his sinuous body of pale gold and burnished bronze. He's not a very big dragon, about the size of a big dog maybe, but he's still very clearly a dragon. Wings and tail and talons and all.
Clay looks up at him, and his voice is sardonic. "Wow, your Eagle Vision must be levelling up, Desmond, your observational abilities are off the charts!"
Desmond folds his arms. "I'm also observing that there's something wrong with the Grand Temple," he says flatly.
Clay swings his long necked head around this way and that, taking in the ancient volcanic cave around them. "Looks the same to me."
"All our stuff is gone, Clay. And I seem to recall that part having collapsed. It looks pretty uncollapsed to me. Also, the barrier is up again," Desmond points at the glowing Isu-tech barrier between them and the device Desmond is pretty sure he just activated. "Are you seeing the barrier, Clay, the barrier I spent the last week's of my life opening?"
"Don't be ridiculous, Seventeen, you're not dead yet."
"Clay," Desmond says, even flatter.
The dragon blows out an acrid smelling breath. "Okay, fine, I did maybe attempt a little bit of time travel," he says defensively. "You would've too if you realised what the Grand Temple could really do!"
"Which is… time travel?"
"Pretty much anything that your little mind can come up with, actually."
Desmond gives him another one over and folds his arms. "Like turning you into a dragon."
"Manipulating probabilities is one hell of a thing," Clay agrees and nudges his side with his nose. Snout? "But the dragon bit is definitely a translation error. I was trying to recode myself into an Isu," he adds, very quickly under his breath. "Not a winged reptile with an upset stomach."
"You - what?"
Clay avoids looking him in the eye and huffs out an embarrassed breath. "Also you're not dead. You're welcome for not being dead," he says pointedly.
Desmond stares at him for a long moment before letting out a sigh and letting it go. "Thanks. You have an upset stomach?" he then asks.
"It kinda hurts, yeah," Clay murmurs, shifting his weight a little, and just then there's an audible gurgle from somewhere within him, his draconic belly rumbling.
Desmond lets his hands drop to his sides. "You're hungry?" he asks incredulously.
"I haven't eaten anything in almost a year, Desmond, have some sympathy."
"Yeah, well, you were dead," Desmond says, making a face, and then hesitates. "I should be dead."
"That's what Juno wanted to happen anyway," Clay agrees and unfurls his wings tentatively. "Again you're welcome."
"Right. You… saved me. And brought us back in time," Desmond says slowly and frowns  "When exactly are we?"
Clay spreads out his wings and shakes himself. "If I didn't mess up the calculations, maybe two hundred years back in time."
"Uh. Why two hundred years?"
"It's enough time to fast forward industrial revolution without breaking history too badly," Clay says almost flippantly and gives him a look. "And all your major ancestors have procreated and died and so if we mess up time, there's still a good chance you will be born."
Desmond blinks. "That's," he starts to say and then isn't entirely sure how to continue. It's not exactly comforting, not exactly worrisome. It's something in between with a little bit of existential horror thrown in. "Okay," he settles on saying, feebly. "And what are we going to do? Just cause an early industrial revolution?"
"That and some other things. I have some plans," Clay says, not quite modestly.
Desmond isn't exactly reassured by his tone. "And how does becoming a dragon feature in those plans?"
Clay hesitates and looks down at himself, shifting his weight on his taloned claws. "Well," he says and his stomach grumbles again. "I think it might change the first step. Get food, instead of find riches. Do you think we could get some food? I'm really hungry, Desmond. You know how to hunt, right?"
Desmond eyes him for a moment and then hums. "I know how to hunt, yeah," he says slowly and looks away, towards the entrance to the Temple. Or rather the exit from their point of view. "But, uh."
"What?"
"You know, we needed Minerva's Apple to get in here. The door was pretty well shut - and had been for tens of thousands of years." Desmond points out and nods at the sloping cave, leading away from them. "How do you suppose we're going to get out?"
Clay stills and then tucks his wings back in. "Oh," he says.
"Yeah. Oh."
-
What if Travel Winds but with Clay and more crack?

TEMERAIRE FIC RECS
I read no fic at all in May, as I was too busy devouring all nine Temeraire novels in a single month - and then spent a very happy June reading a fairly absurd amount of Temeraire fics. In honor of a Pride month well spent, here's a fic rec list!
(Divided up into categories - Laurence/Tharkay, Laurence/Napoleon, other ships, and gen)
WILLIAM LAURENCE/TENZING THARKAY
ley lines by malfaisant/@stanleyraymondkowalski (T, 14k, 2015) Amnesia era!Laurence sees Tharkay and it doesn't cure his amnesia; a renewed friendship tinged with loss follows
Tharkay makes it to Peking intact with the news of Napoleon’s imminent invasion of Russia. Which would be all well and good, except that Laurence isn’t very intact himself.
which is like everything by sere (This_is_Sere) (G, 3k, 2024) Post-canon Laurence accidentally breaks Tharkay's heart a little, and put it back together in the sweetest way possible
A chance remark from Granby provokes an excess of feeling in Tharkay.
The Reward of Service by yunitsa/@pamphilia (T, 4k, 2016) A lovely post-canon get-together fic, where Granby puts his foot in it a little and realizations are had
‘It is no good asking me,’ Laurence said at last, pushing the pattern-book away over breakfast, ‘I am not the one–’ Not the one who would be living with the result, he had been about to say. But they had hardly accepted Tharkay’s invitation as casual houseguests.
A Soft Dawn by corvile (G, 2k, 2015) A soft and sweet Tongues of Serpents-era fic, featuring accidental spooning, self-introspection, and maybe the most romantic hand-holding known to man
Upon thinking on this feeling of jealousy, Tharkay has done some rather clever intuitive leaps involving situations both real and imagined, and he's come to a rather curious conclusion: he's a little in love with William Laurence.
all flowers in time by lastwingedthing (E, 7k, 2017) A splendid post-canon get-together where it's Laurence who pines after an oblivious Tharkay, rather than the other way around. Also, sex!
The consolations of possession.
Ship's Gossip by Spatz/@cactusspatz (M, 6k, 2019) AU where Laurence takes up Tharkay's offer to become a privateer and Tharkay joins Laurence on the ship; Laurence learns some things about Tharkay, and then about himself
Laurence is beginning to enjoy life as a privateer - though he cannot figure out why Tharkay should still be sailing out with them - when Temeraire decides to ask him about sodomy.
WILLIAM LAURENCE/NAPOLEON BONAPARTE
Dearest William by WerewolvesAreReal/@werewolves-are-real (T, 23k, 2016) Laurence and Napoleon are pen pals! Riotously funny, until it's heartbreaking
Napoleon sends a letter to the upstart sea-captain who stole his dragon, Laurence sends one back, and a correspondence begins under the uneasy eye of the admiralty. When Laurence had admitted the matter to Granby his lieutenant exclaimed, “God, does Boney want you drawn and quartered as a traitor?” which seems perfectly possible.
i sing of arms and the man by Jack_R (M, 21k, 2020) Ancient Rome AU (and really good dragon-related worldbuilding)! Laurence longs for the days of the Roman Republic, but Rome's new emperor is rather adept at persuasion
‘You think me a far worthier man than I am,’ he says, then. ‘No,’ Napoleone says, softly, ‘I don’t think I do at all.’
L'envoyé céleste triomphant de la Maladie. Antoine-Jean Gros (1813) by VerdetCadet/@verdet-cadet (G, 3k, 2023) A League of Dragons captured-by-Napoleon fic involving a rather appalling painting and Tharkay and Granby being the world's funniest wingmen (ha)
"Given what he has done with the barest civility on my part, I cannot think what he would do with the least encouragement." “Oh, no?” said Granby innocently, a sentiment that provoked a raised eyebrow from Tharkay over his glass, and in Laurence, a strangeness in the pit of his stomach. Or: Napoleon is an enthusiastic patron of the arts. Laurence's best friends lovingly suss out his willingness to bone Napoleon for political gain and strategic expediency.
Ordinance of Fate by by WerewolvesAreReal/@werewolves-are-real (T, 13k (WIP), 2022) *slamming hand on table rythmically* soulmate AU soulmate AU soulmate AU soulmate AU
The name comes when he is 15, and Laurence hides it immediately. Then at the age of 22 Laurence reads a letter from an old shipmate who writes that “the troops in Italy were routed by some new General of theirs, Napoleon Bonaparte-"
Doctrine on Worship by Kangoo/@youngster-monster (G, 6k, 2021) AU where Laurence becomes a priest instead of joining the Navy, and meets Temeraire anyway - but Temeraire's captain takes an interest in his dragon's new friend
“You do not strike me as a man well versed in selfishness. Perhaps you ought to try it; you might find it easier to understand my presence then." In which Laurence made a different choice, a long time ago, which changes very little in the long run.
OTHER SHIPS
Tender Like a Bruise by VerdetCadet/@verdet-cadet (T, 5k, 2024) Granby/Little - Granby struggles with the shame and trauma of losing his arm; Augustine Little is there for him
It is not a good time to be short an arm, if there ever was such a thing. Granby has always prided himself on his competence and his easy good cheer. Now, at a stroke, he finds himself lacking in both.
revelry by WerewolvesAreReal/@werewolves-are-real (E, 2k, 2018) Tharkay/Laurence/Granby/Little - Post-canon Tharkay & Laurence invite Granby & Little over to visit, delightful and unabashedly voyueristic sexytimes ensue
Little suddenly turns away and throws himself down on the couch where Laurence previously sat, drunkenness making him stumble a little. He leans heavily against Tharkay, who doesn't mind, and tosses Granby a jaunty salute. “Now you must kiss him, John. I know how long you have wanted to; you will always regret it if you do not."
What comfort I can by VerdetCadet/@verdet-cadet (M, 5k, 2023) Laurence/Granby - Amnesiac!Laurence has suspicions about the nature of his relationship with Granby. Second in a two-part series, part one is also splendid! I just have a fatal weakness for the amnesia era ok
The truth of Laurence's treason comes out while Laurence is still aboard the Potentate. Laurence's half formed memories are just there enough for dangerous conjecture. Granby is there to offer what comfort he can.
That Dare Not Speak Its Name by WerewolvesAreReal/@werewolves-are-real (E, 11k (WIP), 2024) Laurence/Granby - Laurence covers for Little and Granby and discoveries are made. The dialogue and introspection are so very delicious I'm SO INVESTED AUGH
After an incriminating letter is discovered, Granby is caught out as an invert – and everyone knows his lover is another captain. Since the companion of a common Yellow Reaper would not be spared the noose, Laurence declares that it's him. Over time, he starts to wish it really were.
Uncharted by novembersmith/@novembersmith (E, 5k, 2009) Laurence/Granby/Tharkay - Laurence and Granby are together and Tharkay is mortified, until he's given quite good reason not to be
Tharkay had had the dubious pleasure of watching Laurence and Granby being blissfully in love for several weeks now.
Foibles by VerdetCadet/@verdet-cadet (M, 3k, 2023) Laurence/Tharkay and Laurence/Napoleon, sort of - Tharkay likes roleplaying and Laurence is not displeased by the role Tharkay takes on this time
Tharkay, faced with an inconvenience he was forced to endure or a problem his mind could not set aside, found his ease by simply Not Being Tharkay for a time.
An Alchemy of Character by PepperHoney (G, 7k, 2023) Tharkay/Granby - Tharkay and Granby compete for Laurence's affections, until they find a more fulfilling use of their time
Granby and Tharkay have been watching each other court Laurence to no avail for years now. It's something of a game between them, truly, one whose success they don't really believe in anymore. It takes a long journey aboard the Allegiance for them to realise--perhaps, if Laurence can't be reached, someone else can.
GEN
Smooth Water All Our Days by 20thcenturyvole (T, 37k, 2021) Technically Laurence/Tharkay (and they're lovely here) but much more gen-focused. Post-canon, Laurence, with his family's help, gets Temeraire's political career off the ground; meanwhile, Tharkay investigates a conspiracy. Also, parties!
Laurence desires nothing more than to retire to Tharkay's estate and help Temeraire get to Parliament, for what more could he want than a place in Britain with space enough for a dragon, and the company of a dear friend? But wars rarely end so neatly. Bellicose lords, Bourbon princes, errant heirs and shadowy forces threaten to undermine the very peace that Laurence and Temeraire fought to obtain, and ruin the happiness that Laurence was just beginning to glimpse.
remember (you deserve this) by WerewolvesAreReal/@werewolves-are-real (T, 10k, 2018) Laurence finds a different way to punish himself for the treason. Superb angst (mind the tags), and the last line of this fic d e s t r o y e d me
Laurence is pardoned for Temeraire's sake, but he manages to punish himself anyway.
Animal Husbandry by WerewolvesAreReal/@werewolves-are-real (G, 11k, 2017) Laurence is told that Temeraire accepted Dayes as his captain, but Laurence cannot forget the dragon he's lost.
Weeks after finding a dragon egg in the Amitie’s hold William Laurence reluctantly turns away and lets the Corps take Temeraire - but he doesn’t return to the Navy. He’s not an aviator, but somehow Laurence still ends up going down in history as the instigator behind the Great Dragon Rebellion of ‘06.
Captains by StrangerWithMyFace/@agentem (G, 2k, 2010) Perscitia (my beloved!!!) has a rough day; Wellington, in his roundabout way, is there to cheer her up. I am weak for Perscitia and Wellington bonding weak i say
Perscitia encounters two men at the London covert, and one of them is her captain.
Forays Into Human Sexuality (or whatever Laurence is doing) by WerewolvesAreReal/@werewolves-are-real (G, 1k, 2024) Laurence finds out that no, actually, not every man is secretly a repressed bisexual
Laurence says, “It is wholly natural, anyway, with no women around.”

Little thing I wrote because everyone was throwing prompts around on the discord and I got inspired.
When Laurence was young, it was disappointing to be markless. He was never content with not having a soulmate, even with the informal arrangement he had with Edith. He remembers conversations spent together, wondering how long they would have to wait before their soulmates would be born and for their mark to appear.
He cares much less about it now. Perhaps he had felt belated horror after the initial shock ran through his crew aboard the Reliant as Temeraire first spoke and as black scales bloomed across his face. Laurence had felt nothing at the time, no physical sensation to signify the appearance of his soulmark. It was only when Temeraire was eating that Riley had stepped up and quietly told him of what had occurred.
It had taken him a long time to come to terms with having a dragon as a soulmate. But now Laurence wears his mark with pride. Black scales cover his left cheek, reaching down his neck and over the majority of his chest, inked across three-quarters of his arm and stretching down to mid-thigh. It is a huge mark, which would be looked down upon in the polite society in which he was raised. But why wouldn't it be large, given that Temeraire has dominated his life since he entered it?
Laurence remembers being reassured upon meeting the other aviators. Harcourt has lilies blooming up and down her back, she's said, and at times he can glimpse the edges of petals peeking up out of her collar at her neck. Granby has an entire bicep encircled with fire, which became immediately self-explanatory when Iskierka hatched, and even more so when he lost part of his arm. Berkley, in contrast to how large Maximus is, has scales scattered across the backs of his hands in Regal Copper red. James has Volly's colours painted up and down his legs. The Rolands both have blue and orange and white over their cheekbones. Even Little, who Laurence counts as an acquaintance verging on friend, has Immortalis around his wrists. Very quickly he learned that it was more uncommon for an aviator and their dragon to not be soulmates; his large and prominent mark apparently did a lot of work smoothing his arrival in ways he was unconscious of in the beginning.
He had worried also in the beginning whether the rumor was true that dragons didn't have soulmarks. He was afraid of him and Temeraire being different, more so than they already were. But on that front so too were his concerns put to rest.
Perhaps he should have known better. After all, he had known as soon as he looked into Temeraire's blue eyes and seen the storming, crashing waters of the sea within them, no shore in sight as the sky wheeled overhead. It was the sight that made him fall in love with the sea the first time and, he thinks fondly, scratching Temeraire under his closed eye, the sight that made him fall in love with Temeraire too.
(I have a fountain pen and so it doesn't dry up I try and write a little bit every couple of days. Most of it is temeraire-related; I'm thinking the ones small enough to not be fics technically I might post)

Fanfic Idea: Post-Canon, Laurence and Temeraire attend a fancy dinner party at a country estate. A Spanish nobleman, recently returned from California, strikes up a conversation with them noting the remarkable resemblance between Temeraire and the dragon of a locally infamous bandit that has been troubling the Spanish governor of late. At first Temeraire is intrigued by the possibility of another male Celestial but soon comes to a startling realization: this "Tornado" may in fact be his supposed deceased twin brother, Chuan! Now Laurence and Temeraire must race to California to find this "Zorro" character and learn the truth before assassins dispatched by Lien or Zorro's nemesis, the corrupt Governor Rafael Montero, get to him first!

5 + 1 Fic Friday Roundup: Tripped into Power
Fics with characters who didn't exactly seek to rule, but instead were subject to an "accidental power acquisition".
The Accidental Warlord and His Pack (AO3) - "Jaskier arrives at Kaer Morhen knowing his family gave him up without a second thought, and absolutely sure that the dreaded Warlord of the North will value him even less than his own blood did. But the White Wolf and his pack are not what Jaskier expected...and if he's unreasonably lucky, Kaer Morhen might become far more of a home than Lettenhove ever was."
The Way of Conquest (AO3) - "All Din wanted to do was find the Child a sorcerer teacher, pick up a job or two, and follow his Creed. Three out of three is good, right? Right?"
Pirate King Laurence (AO3) - "It's bad luck to have a dragon aboard a ship, and this tiny black creature can't be natural at all. Slowed by a gale and bad-luck, the Reliant mutinies and puts Laurence and Temeraire alone on the Amitié. The journey back to England is difficult, and on the way Laurence accidentally finds himself leading a small fleet of fighting ships. As one does."
The War is Far From Over Now (AO3 / FF) - "Tony Stark was tired. But he had a planet to protect, even if everyone laughed at him whenever the prospect of alien invasions was brought up. He could count on one hand how many people he could trust, which was disheartening but then, what else was new? Or, Tony Stark, [Accidental] Overlord."
A Comcept of Loyalty (AO3) - "Shisui considered himself devoted, if not fully to his Clan’s agenda or the Sandaime’s manoeuvring then at least to upholding Konohakagure herself. ... He didn't abide by traitors and, above all, he valued loyalty." Set to private.
Bonus: Acronym (AO3) - "They made Tobirama the Senju Clan Head.
...omg they made Tobirama the Senju Clan Head."

Favorite fics? Doesn't have to be rise or even turtle related
Oh man I got very excited for this ask. I have been in a lot of different fandoms for a very long time- but lets start with some of my all timers.
Now What I'm Going To Say May Sound Indelicate (Rated E)
A Reddie fic for It CH2, which I've probably reread about fifty times. It's unfinished, and probably never will be finished, but it's absolutely worth a read. The writing is incredible, and it's my singular favorite fic of all time. A lot of medical procedures and recovery, since (spoiler) someone gets impaled at the end of the movie and this is exploring how they might live through that.
_________________________________________________
Blue Sky (Rated T (from what I remember))
PDF VERSION
I hope this link works- the first link is fanfiction dot net, which is hard to use after so many years, and the other is a pdf I found of someone who downloaded a version to share. This fic is from 2011, and is actually pretty famous. Based off of Portal 2, what happens when Wheatley gets a body? I've actually been meaning to reread it because I barely remember it at this point, but this fic came out about a year before I graduated high school and opened my eyes to the fact that fanfiction can be actual published novel quality.
Also friendly reminder that if you love a fic, download it. Not to repost obviously, but websites disappear and works get deleted for any number of reasons and you may in fact be helping an author out.
_________________________________________________
Wow. This is fucking wild-
From Out the Ocean Risen (Rated T)
A Pacific Rim fic that started publishing in 2013- last time I reread this, YEARS AGO, the series was as of yet unfinished. It's a fantastic body-horror-esque story of the implications of aliens and hiveminds and what makes a monster. It's Newton Giezler-centric and FANTASTICALLY written-
and it JUST updated this month in 2023. I had no idea, but searching through my fic list made me notice. I thought, surely it's just an update to apologize for abandoning the fic- but no! It's an actual new chapter.
If you guys ever wanted to show support for a fic that's been abandoned, this one deserves it immensely. Show it some love, it's never too late to hop on board and enjoy a fic and you never know what someone will return to.
_________________________________________________
Pirate King Laurence (Rated T)
'His Majesties Dragon' is a super good age of sail book series, sometimes called 'Temeraire', that's as if a Pride and Prejudice character was captain of a dragon crew. This is a little bit of an AU to that, and is one of my all time favorite Temeraire fic series.
_________________________________________________
the run and go (Rated M)
Post Homestuck fic. 560k words. Still being updated- enough said, it's fantastic. This is probably the longest fic on my list. Involves a lot of unpacking about Dave and Bro and not just what it's like recovering from an abusive childhood, but reconciling with the person you love who abused you. Also everyone lives. Everyone.
_________________________________________________
>Dave: survive three years on this rock (Rated T)
One more Homestuck fic for the road- there was a period of time where the Homestuck tag was nothing BUT meteor fic. If you were in the fandom, iykyk. This one was probably the most in character Dave and great portrayal of what it would be like actually living within a universe made up of date game mechanics.
_________________________________________________
The Other Hawke (Rated E)
If anyone's gone through the rest of my fic besides TMNT stuff, they've seen my SECOND largest fandom I've written for, which was Dragon Age. More specifically, I fixated on most peoples least favorite character on the whole series- Carver Hawke. Hahaha. I just really fixate on the oddest characters, huh?
This is a fic about what his life outside of his brother is like, and giving him a lot of depth that you don't get in the video game series. Also he is getting dicked down by Fenris, which is a fantastic pairing I didn't know I needed. It's hilarious, and romantic, and very tense.
Man. I gotta reread a lot of these. Thanks so much for the ask! Sorry if it got a little out of hand haha.

Sneaking Out (Aviator AU)
Temeraire - (Pre) Granby/Laurence - 200 words - @slashmultiverse prompt, day 4
"Cadet Laurence! Cadet Granby! Where in God's name have you been!" Captain Cornwall exclaimed, looking at his most troublesome crewmen. Small mercies, he thought, that Ensign Roland was nowhere to be seen.
"... Studying, sir?" Laurence said weakly. A clump of mud detached from his bangs and fell to the ground. Cornwall lifted an eyebrow imperiously and the boy squeaked, though it was good to see him show some spine.
"Yeah!" Granby added, Will and me—" he ignored the other boy's correction, "were practicing hand to hand, Cap'n!"
"Will?" Excursius murmured. Cornwall could sympathize; the two cadets had been at each other's throats since they met, too different and too similar by half.
"John is an excellent tutor." Laurence said, clearly warming up to the lie. "He's a credit to this crew, sir."
Cornwall exchanged a look with his dragon, who tilted his neck in an approximation of a shrug. When he turned, he caught Cadet Laurence smiling at his partner in crime.
Well. He supposed conniving to get out of punishment was better than open hostility. Cornwall debated letting them get away with it.
Wait…was Cadet Granby blushing?
On second thought, Cornwall was recommending a transfer, well before puberty hit.

Temeraire Fanfiction Rec
If you're sad that there are (so far!) no more Temeraire books, go read CMOTScribbler's 'An Epilogue of Sorts'. There's 3 books following the lives of the next generation of aviators. Usually I can't stand OCs, but the canon characters and their behaviour and development feels continuous with the original series, and the invented characters (Laurence and Jane's sons, Emily's daughter, Rankin's son) diverge from their parents in interesting ways. And the voice reads like Naomi Novik during the Temeraire series.

Mutuals, should I write a fanfic where:
Anthony Bridgerton gets impressed into the Royal Air Service, becoming a dragon-rider during the Napoleonic wars? Despite being a nobleman, he still serves and comes back to London and the Ton bearing the scars of war. Most likely longform fic, heavy history, references to other similar period pieces, and an original female character for Anthony to end up with. Poll below

After some enterprising demon tears a hole in reality, Destiny unceremoniously plucks up Dream – and his immortal human friend – to send them into a strange alternate universe. One where the Dreaming is odd and distant, the other Endless can't be touched, and dragons fight alongside men.
Their mission: to force the demon to return his stolen human slave. Honestly, though, Dream thinks this William Laurence fellow doesn't seem terribly important. Certainly his imagination is dull enough. Can't they find some other human to replace him?

The pride in his eyes
1 x 04
The son of an Earl
Rankin was not reconciled with the current assignment but there were something to be said to the practice of interactions with officers so beneath his usual superior society or hygiene but with so much power over his future career. Serving with Caleum was not as useless, boring or deeming as he thought . He observed and took note of every position and when he made two thoughtful suggestions for a better management of weight distribution and target practice they were accepted with successful results. His experience in his father's state and the inexperience of the riflemen already made him stand out. There was a mixed feeling in his chest after the first months of assignment while still keeping close track to the calendar for his next possible assignment.
Miss Little corrected his adress to her and he reluctantly remembered to call her captain most times. She would instruct him and command him without any issue during assignments and engagements, but she would turn into an annoyed old maid every time they would be on ground. He spend most of his time writing letters to his family and seeding correspondance with his cousins and distance aqueintances, there was not much else to do. He tried to be cheering in his letters home, but keeping his letters longer than a few lines was becoming a challenge.
After the first month of assignment they were oddly transferred to the cover closest to London givin him several oportunities to see his mother more often when the season began. He took as much leaves as he and his parents influence could allow to cope with so much misery.
The countest was a very affectionate mother but she had sharpen her tongue and claws in the London society and could sense something amiss,oh how she would have prefer him going to the church. The subject of his youngest was a constant sore point in the marriage but there was real affection in it so she counted hes blessings and consol herself spending his husband's purse.
She took her youngest to the theater and after a delicious dessert she began prodding about the things he would not share in a letter seen by his father. He was extremely reluctant to tell her the whole story. It took her two outings and new set of ivory chess to finally crack his silence about his accidental selection of capitan. The politics inside the call were complicated apparently. The admiral had recalled him once he knew about his position in Caleum crew and asked him about his selection and was apparently proud of him and to Rankin dismay he revealed he was waiting for Polygonia, an anglewing, to recover to assign him to her crew before he made a muddle of things by inpatience. The surprise and evident approval in the admiral's face was so noticeable that silenced all protest and forced him to conceal his true dismay.
Rankin was having a hard time telling the story, the fact that it was a female capitan was never mentioned and tried to present the issue as just a decrease in the status of dragon as the use of women was one of the call most shocking secrets. Her mother was a delicate and soft creature and would not tolerate him serving under a vulgar wench. He could not openly tell her this sore point but it was still enough to make her visibly upset with the situation despite only understanding the value for his career the class and weight of each dragon.
When he returned from his last outing sharing his sweets with the crew Miss Little took a deep and irritating breath before addressing him as she would often do. She never did anything he could submit as formal complain but she made it clear she was not fond of him. She was clever in that regard, she would walk in the fine line and let him simmer in rage every time.
His friendship with Agustine sometimes resented that. Agustine was older than him by about 3 years but he would talk as if he were 3 years younger when he got excited. He might have abused him a little whenever he did, but sharing his sweets and showing his new set of chess seem to reconcile him with his steering. He was a good officer and had a dry humor he liked. He was a dreamer and a surprising source of dragon information whenever he found the chance, this limited the conversations they had but his skill to play chess was like no other among the runners or young officers and appreciate the novels his mother send. Their true conection was playing chess, sometimes they even got two or three watchers. His sister was often one of them and was usually acompanied by an older officer, his first lieutenant Porter. Rankin was almost sure they shared a bed as he was awfully protective of her and would admonish Rankin whenever he could.
-Rankin! Rankin!
He heard another runner shout
-what is is the fuss about? He said when the runner came close
- The admiral wants to see you and the capitan -he said- You were invited to dinner with the Earl!
His mother was sometimes too clever for he own good.
