One Dress a Day Challenge

July: Blue Redux (+ Green Redux)

Another dress with cutout designs, much like the purple dress from earlier in the season. The bright blue-green edging of the belt, sleeves, and neck really makes the elements pop, and also, it suggests the line work of a comic book panel.

I also notice that this costume incorporates elements of Agent Carter's two most iconic looks (see below), but with a twist. Blue with touches of red is a signature color combination for her. This dress has the double stripe at the waist, but blue instead of red, and interrupted in front. It also has something red on top, but sunglasses instead of a hat. I doubt it is too much of a stretch to suspect this was deliberate.

not to be like this but all of the posts (and there are many across multiple platforms) right now going "I mean obviously I'm not mad or whining or anything but it sucks that there's all these three week breaks, how am I going to survive, this is awful, I cannot believe this is happening to me" like, it does in fact come off as entitled no matter how many qualifiers are put onto it

and the a smaller subset of THAT going "CLEARLY C3 isn't a priority for the studio" or "they're obviously trying to kill C3" or even posting stuff that comes off as "um, don't they know that if they keep doing this I won't shop here watch anymore", like, come on

as a tangent, genuinely, I feel like a lot of people have trouble admitting that they don't actually like C3 so they get existentially worried about them losing interest over a slightly longer break because it'll force them to acknowledge that they aren't actually interested, but it's fine not to be interested!

As a person who works in the industry do you think Greys is seriously needing any time soon? It’s obviously a cash cow for ABC and still popular but I used to think 10 years would be it then 15, 20 and now I’m scared that they’ll actually try to hold out for 30 or more 😱 I’ve watched it all the way even during some truly awful moments and will stay until the end but more and more I find myself hoping that end is soon…

It's tricky with Grey's because there are a lot of factors at play.

Firstly, it's 5 years past the point where it became the longest running medical drama in history. As a primetime American TV show, it fills a niche that is catered to with soap operas in other countries, allowing for important information regarding health or social issues to reach a larger audience. Plus, it brings money to ABC, Disney, Netflix and now Hulu as well.

Ellen Pompeo was, I think, the highest paid television actor in her final regular cast season, making like $20 million USD. Now that she's stepped back, I'm sure that money has ended up in someone else's pocket who isn't interested in losing it. Considering an ABC big name said in 2017 that they wanted to watch the show with their grandchildren one day... Yeah.

They have a formula that works, though. Those sets are built and wouldn't need to be changed all that often - a hospital is a hospital is a hospital. The cameras are no longer shooting film. A lot of the crew have been working on the show for decades. There isn't as much cost associated with making the show, as far as I can tell, as it brings in to the companies it's fuelling. (There aren't as many big stunts or on-location setups like other shows are prone to.)

But things will be shaking up next season and I think we're nearing what will be a make-or-break period. A couple more faces are leaving the universe (and a potential few are moving back from Station 19). With only two remaining original cast members, something has to give for the longtime viewers, I think. And we're still seeing the very beginnings of their newest showrunner - 21 will be her first full, proper run at the job. (If all the negotiations going on behind the scenes with various crew unions doesn't result in more strikes.)

I think, ultimately, the show can't actually function without Pompeo. The second she isn't available for voiceovers, the formula is shot. I don't see that being reimagined after 20 years, unless they do a massive time jump and we get to see Zola as a doctor, reading her mother's diaries aaaaaand rinse and repeat the first 20 years of the show. Fuck, I could actually see them doing that.

Anyways, I just heard they renewed for season 100 and the show will outlive all of us after all.
