Weedeater w/ Telekinetic Yeti & Restless Spirit and Possum Rot Live at Grantski Records!
On March 19th, Grantski Records announced that stoner metal legends Weedeater w/ Telekinetic Yeti & Restless Spirit would grace their stage on the final slot for their current tour. I knew this show would sell out or get close to it. Having these three metal bands play downtown in Augusta, GA is a huge deal for the metalheads in the area. Grantski Records has been booking some killer metal acts of all kinds since they built the stage in their record store. And since then, metal bands have kept coming to tear up downtown Augusta. This Saturday evening was no different with this wicked lineup that melted some minds with each blistering performance. Many thanks to Evan at Grantski Records for keeping his commitment to revitalizing the scene in downtown Augusta, GA.
Kicking off the evening was one of my favorite Georgia metal bands, Possum Rot. Possum Rot is a stoner metal band from Augusta, Georgia that formed back in 2017. The band consists of Matt Poppell (vocals/guitar), Tyler Milford (vocals/bass), and Evan Grantski (drums). They have released four (4) singles to date: “Do It Again”, “Pestilence”, “Smoke”, and “Prisoner of The Dirt”. Imagine if Black Sabbath and Red Fang had a doom/sludge metal love child, then that could describe the power that Possum Rot exhumes while on stage. This would be my second time seeing Possum Rot after finally getting the chance when they opened for Bongzilla last year at Grantski Records. I still feel guilty for not catching Possum Rot perform all these years, but you must start sometimes I suppose.
Check out their socials and consider giving Possum Rot some support on Instagram and Facebook. Follow this link to Possum Rot’s Official Bandcamp page today and give them some support!
Restless Spirit is a stoner/doom metal band from Long Island, N.Y. that has been active since 2018 and signed to Magnetic Eye Records. Restless Spirit consists of Marc Morello (bass, Paul Aloisio (guitar/vocals), and Jon Gusman (drums). They have released three (3) LPs, four (4) EPs, and one (1) single. Restless Spirit took the stage and proceeded to rip through a set of some of their most powerful songs for the crowd at Grantski Records. This was my first time catching Restless Spirit and I was excited to see them perform in such a small, intimate venue. The energy they proceeded to give the crowd while performing on stage is electric and I recommend you take the time to check them performing live or on any music streaming platform.
Check out Restless Spirit’s setlist from their Grantski Records performance:
· “Judgement and Exile”
· “Marrow”
· “Miserable Existence/Unrest”
· “Cascade Immolator”
· “Lord of the New Depression”
· “From the Dust Returned”
· “All Furies”
Head over to Restless Spirit’s Official Bandcamp page today and check out some rad tunes!
Telekinetic Yeti is a stoner/doom metal band from Dubuque, Iowa, making heads bang since 2015. Telekinetic Yeti consists of Alex Baumann (guitar/vocals) and Rockwell Heim (drums). They are signed to Sump Pump Records and have released two (2) LPs with Primordial (2022) being the latest release. Like Restless Spirit, this would be my first time watching Telekinetic Yeti, and this performance did not let me down. I know a few people in attendance who have never seen them perform like me and left that night as fans of Telekinetic Yeti. For a duo, Telekinetic Yeti can pack a mighty punch and get very loud. In a few weeks, Telekinetic Yeti will make another appearance in my column when they open for John Garcia (Kyuss/Slo Burn/Hermano/Unida/John Garcia and the Band of Gold) at The Masquerade in Atlanta later in May.
You can see Telekinetic Yeti’s setlist from this evening’s show below:
· “Ghost Train”
· “Abominable”
· “Stoned and Feathered”
· “Ancient Nug”
· “Toke Wizard”
· “Stoned Ape Theory”
· “Himalayan Hymn”
Show them love and check out Telekinetic Yeti’s Bandcamp page to stream some of their music.
Wilmington, N.C. natives Weedeater, a stoner/sludge metal band, was founded in 1998. Weedeater consists of founding members Dave “Dixie” Collins (bass/vocals), Dave “Shep” Shepherd (bass), and Ramzi Ateyeh (drums) who joined the band in 2019. Weedeater has released five (5) LPs and has been signed to the French record label Season of Mist since November 2013. “Dixie” Dave Collins has been a part of some seminal bands in the stoner/sludge metal genre such as Buzzov*en, Bongzilla, Sourvein, Barstul, and Hail! Hornet in addition to being a founding member of Weedeater.
And now for the grand finale featuring the mighty Weedeater! What started with one of my favorite Weedeater songs, “Hammer Handle”, became one of the most ruthless Weedeater sets that I have seen. We were even treated to “God Luck and Good Speed” and back-to-back “Wizard Fight” which are also two songs from their discography that are always great to see live. We even had a special guest appearance from Black Tusk’s drummer James May on the Lynyrd Skynyrd cover “Gimme Back My Bullets” near the end of the night. I saw many smiles from people in the crowd as Weedeater performed a set of songs from their brutal discography.
Check out Weedeater’s setlist from this evening in Augusta, GA:
· “Hammer Handle”
· “Mancoon”
· “Turkey Warlock”
· “God Luck and Good Speed”
· “Wizard Fight”
· “For Evan’s Sake”
· “$20 Peanut”
· “Dirt Merchant”
· “Jason… The Dragon”
· “Monkey Junction”
· “Time Served”
· “Gimme Back My Bullets” (Lynyrd Skynyrd cover w/ Black Tusk’s James May)
· “Weed Monkey”

Winter Writing Prompts Part 2!
❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️
Your fav ship kissing under the blankets during a cold wintery night.
Telekinetic character versus snow manipulator character in a snowball fight!
Animal whisperer character helping ALL the mammals in their area prepare for hibernation.
Piggy backing off of that, animal whisperer character helping ALL the birds in the area to prepare for migration for the wintery season.
Writing challenge: For your fantasy culture, instead of a December winter holiday, make a winter holiday set in your world’s January or February!
A character with super speed ice skating, see how well that goes
An artist sculpting out of ice
Ship date idea where they go to see the northern lights together (ppl who live north enough to see that are lucky lucky bastards sobs in lives closer to the equator)
A child befriending a Yeti that lives in the nearby mountains that everyone else is afraid of!
Character A checking out alternative forms of travel for their winter vacation because Character B is terrified of heights and so A doesn’t want to choose travel by plane (Bonus Points: B keeps on insisting it’s fine but A will still stubbornly accommodate to B’s fear unless/until they get to a point of getting over their fear where they are less likely to get a panic attack flying plane)

Seattle’s SORCIA Strike a Gnarly Chord with ‘Lost Season’
~Doomed & Stoned Debuts~
By Billy Goate
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/90328dd914175d6403a264031e42cbae/24840073023e5009-98/s540x810/e91b9adadae9182eb589f34343810b9574478f0d.jpg)
The last time we checked in with the Rain City's doom-stoner-sludge trio SORCIA, they had just released their EP, 'Death By Design' (2021). Two years later, a follow-up: 'Lost Season' (2023).
Opening number, "Miss Ann Thrope," as it turns out, is a play on words for misanthrope -- you know, someone who just doesn't like people. Lyrics reflect the kind of alienation familiar to anyone who's tried to take on the world and been chewed up and spit out, left with only frayed nerves and a low level of trust. "Controlling the things I say, I lash out at you. Our toxic love affair, a love that’s true." The downcast dirge winds and grinds like a menacing serpent. Verses are clean and searching, delivered with a certain humanity that is both relatable and appealing. Meanwhile, the chorus is as mean and grizzly as you could ask for. "She feeds off my anger," utters vocalist/guitarist Neal De Atley, "She is well fed."
"An Axe Named Otis" may be a reference to the strange and twisted tale that is 2001's Frailty, in which Bill Paxton has a revelation from God and begins destroying demons with an axe he finds in a barn. Carved on this implement of destruction is the nickname "Otis." It's a harsh, vengeful affair, with a blood-spattered backdrop of leaden doom, evil sludge, and brittle percussion.
"Faded Dune" is a groovy southern stoner romp that could be an homage to Goatsnake. With whisky in hand, you could just melt right into it. "Dusty," meanwhile, conjures a blurry sunset and features sanguine vocal harmonies from bassist Jessica Brasch. Then the record closes with "Entering the Eighth House," an astrological reference to Scorpio and Pluto, a place of sex and death.
Sorcia's Lost Season soaks in dark blues, with melancholy hooks and forthright lyrical contemplation. Look for it this weekend on Desert Records (pre-order here). Stick it on a playlist with Acid King, Dorthia Cottrell, Saint Karloff, Goatsnake, and Legba. And don't miss the band's forthcoming western states tour, kicking off July 28th (dates below).
Give ear...
Lost Season by Sorcia
SOME BUZZ
Seattle stoner/doom trio Sorcia prepare to unleash their highly anticipated sophomore full-length ‘Lost Season’, their heaviest and most eclectic offering to date.
After releasing their debut album just days before the world shut down in March of 2020, things looked bleak for musicians as they were forced to stare into the unknown. During this dark time, Sorcia persevered by pouring themselves into songwriting, accomplishing not only the completion of a challenging EP, but also this brand new full-length they would reflectively come to name ‘Lost Season.’
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/492d8dadda23e6a1f14f1d70055fc33f/24840073023e5009-78/s540x810/192d37c770518e5d6fc36203b8e6882e8309e67e.jpg)
This album is a continuance of their dynamic and heavy sound, yet showcases a matured evolution in style with a new exploration of influences. Captured by Tad Doyle at Witch Ape Studio in Seattle, WA with original artwork by Mike Hawkins, Sorcia are pleased to be working with Desert Records to release ‘Lost Season’ out into the world on July 21st, 2023.
Sorcia have shared the stage with heavy hitters such as Orange Goblin, Hippie Death Cult, Kadabra, Telekinetic Yeti and many more. With each show, they prove they belong with the best and Lost Season has pushed their limits further.

Tour of the Valedores: John Garcia (formerly of Kyuss) Live at The Masquerade
John Garcia is a stoner rock/desert rock/heavy metal singer best known as the founding member and vocalist of several prominent bands in the desert/stoner rock genre: Kyuss, Slo Burn, Unida, and Hermano. Garcia has also performed with Vista Chino, formerly Kyuss Lives! (w/ former Kyuss bandmates Brant Bjork and Nick Oliveri), and John Garcia and the Band of Gold. One can say that Garcia has always kept himself busy within the music industry since starting his career with the legendary band Kyuss. Garcia’s discography is massive since he has participated in many bands over the years: Solo – three (3) LPs and one (1) split w/ Black Mastiff, Kyuss – five (5) LPs, Slo Burn – one (1) LP, Unida – two (2) LPs, Hermano – two (2) LPs, Hermano – three (3) LPs and one (1) Live record, Vista Chino – one (1) LP, and multiple guest appearances over his historic career.
Via his social media channels, Garcia announced on March 7th an ambitious tour that would feature Garcia playing songs from Kyuss, Hermano, and Slo Burn. The Tour of the Valedores would start in Madison on May 15th and conclude in Brooklyn at Elsewhere on May 29th. The Masquerade in Atlanta, GA. would host the Tour of the Valedores on May 19th and you know I would be there with camera in hand. For this tour, John Garcia’s band consists of John Garcia (vocals), John Bennet (guitars), Billy Cordell (bass), and Greg Saenz (drums). Garcia would call on some amazing artists to assist him with opening support on this tour; Jared James Nichols, Telekinetic Yeti, and Left Lane Cruiser.
Left Lane Cruiser is a blues rock/rockabilly/ punk blues band from Fort Wayne, Indiana formed in 2004. Left Lane Cruiser consists of Frederick “Joe” Evans IV (slide guitar/vocals) and Brenn Breck (drums/backing vocals) who are signed to Fat Possum Records. Left Lane Cruiser has released eleven (11) LPs since 2006 when they were previously signed to Hillgrass Bluebilly Records and Alive Records respectively. This would be my first time seeing Left Lane Cruiser live, and I was eager to see what they had to offer.
Starting the evening, Left Lane Cruiser kicked off with some bluesy rockabilly that got the crowd warmed up as they performed songs from their vast discography. This blues-rock hybrid duo knows how to get the crowd involved with their electrifying riffs and dynamic vocals. Left Lane Cruiser was the perfect band to kick off this celebration of John Garcia’s influential legacy.
Check out Left Lane Cruiser’s setlist from this evening’s performance:
· “Wash It”
· “Skinny Woman” (R.L. Burnside cover)
· “Claw Machine Wizard”
· “River Picker”
· “Backyard”
· “Turkey Vulture”
· “Hillgrass Bluebilly”
Follow this link to Left Lane Cruiser’s Official Bandcamp page today and check them out! Or head to their website and pick up some merchandise from their online shop.
Telekinetic Yeti is a stoner/doom metal band from Dubuque, Iowa that has made heads bang since 2015. Telekinetic Yeti consists of Alex Baumann (guitar/vocals) and Rockwell Heim (drums). They are signed to Sump Pump Records and have released two (2) LPs with Primordial (2022) being the latest release. You may recognize Telekinetic Yeti from my review a few weeks ago, Weedeater w/ Telekinetic Yeti, Restless Spirit, & Possum Rot Live at Grantski Records (ICYMI). I was excited to see Telekinetic Yeti again so soon based on their last performance at Grantski Records with Weedeater.
Adding to the list of powerful duos in the stoner/doom metal genre, Telekinetic Yeti commands the stage when they perform live at any venue. Tonight was textbook Yeti as they pulverized their way through each song on their setlist. You could see some Telekinetic Yeti fans in the crowd enjoying seeing one of their favorite bands rip up the stage in Hell at The Masquerade.
You can see Telekinetic Yeti’s setlist from The Masquerade below:
· “Ghost Train Haze”
· “Abominable”
· “Stoned and Feather”
· “Ancient Nug”
· “Toke Wizard”
· “Himalayan Hymn”
Show them love and check out Telekinetic Yeti’s Bandcamp page to stream some of their music.
Jared James Nichols is a blues rock/hard rock guitarist/singer from East Troy, Wisconsin who is most notable for his finger-picking technique on his electric guitar. Jared James Nichols has released three (3) LPs, two (2) EPs, and four (4) singles since 2015. Jared James Nichols is accompanied by Ryan Rice (drums) and Brian Weaver (bass) during his live performances. This would be my first time seeing Jared James Nichols perform live, but I did do some research before the show to see what Jared James Nichols was all about. Wow. The energy and vibe that you see on recordings does not do Jared James Nichols any justice, because his live performances are more captivating with his wild style of guitar picking mixed with his entire band’s energetic performance. And to top it off, Jared James Nichols ended their set with a crushing cover of Black Sabbath’s “War Pigs”.
You can support Jared James Nichols by following this link to his official merchandise store or by supporting him through the Listenable Records official Bandcamp page today!
During the 90’s, I was fascinated with a few West Coast desert rock bands: Fu Manchu and Kyuss. The sound was not common during the 90’s, so I was intrigued with how loud they played but kept an invigorated and chill vibe throughout their discography. Kyuss broke up in 1995 and before I had a chance to see them play live. So, tonight was a special moment getting to see John Garcia performing songs from Kyuss and his other bands, Slo Burn and Hermano. Witnessing a legend perform his legacy live in front of you at The Masquerade with his friends backing him up is the stuff you tell your friends about. Plus, I cannot tell you the last time John Garcia came through Atlanta to perform, let alone take on the massive responsibility of performing songs from three of his influential bands.
John Garcia and his band arrived on stage and the crowd told them they were ready to rock! The time had finally come, and you could tell that the crowd was exhilarated as John Garcia and his band started their set with one of my favorite Kyuss songs “Gardenia” and proceeded to perform five more Kyuss songs in a row. Garcia brought out the songs “Cowboys Suck” and “The Bottle” from Hermano and “July” from his band Slo Burn. For an extra special treat, Garcia treated the crowd to “Dragona Dragona” from his days with the band Vista Chino.
John Garcia was very thankful and acknowledged gratitude for the crowd who came to rock out with him on a Sunday night in Atlanta. The funny thing is that I know we all thought the same thing about John Garcia and this tour. John Garcia rarely tours the East Coast, let alone the South. I know that this tour will go down as one of the best tours in 2024 hands down.
What a setlist curated by John Garcia and his band! Check out all the classics from John Garcia’s setlist from this tour stop at The Masquerade:
· “Gardenia” - Kyuss
· “Conan Troutman” (Outro) - Kyuss
· “Hurricane” (Ending) - Kyuss
· “Thumb” - Kyuss
· “Odyssey” - Kyuss
· “Cowboys Suck” – Hermano
· “Supa Scoopa and Mighty Scoop” (Outro) - Kyuss
· “The Bottle” – Hermano
· “July” – Slo Burn
· “100” - Kyuss
· “Writhe” (Riff) - Kyuss
· “Whitewater” - Kyuss
· “Phototropic” - Kyuss
· “One Inch Man” - Kyuss
· “Dragona Dragona” – Vista Chino
· “El Rodeo” - Kyuss

Telekinetic Yeti - Primordial: Green/White Merge

Text
The good necromancers are preoccupied with giving closure - helping angry ghosts to move on, giving insight in murder cases, that kind of thing. I'd honestly never considered if their magic worked on non-humans or not.
The clothing of each school:
Alchemists wear bright orange robes with deep purple trim and brown leather aprons, and have bright orange cloaks with deep purple trim held in place with a phoenix-shaped brooch, made of amber with bronze fittings. The basic alchemical implement is a flask, containing a mix of molten metal and quicklime.
Conjurers wear yellow robes with bronze trim and sacred ibis quills worn in the hair, and have yellow cloaks with bronze trim held in place with a sphinx-shaped brooch, made of yellow topaz with gold fittings. The basic conjuring implement is the quill, plus papyrus and red and black ink.
Mystics wear turquoise robes with light green trim and dreadlocks, and have turquoise cloaks with light green trim held in place with a yeti-shaped brooch, made of turquoise with silver fittings. The basic mystical implement is a telekinetically bent spoon.
Necromancers wear light grey robes with white trim and grey lace veils, and have light grey cloaks with white trim held in place with a hellhound-shaped brooch, made of moonstone with silver fittings. The basic necromantic implement is a candle, used in conjunction with a mirror and bowl of water.
Observers wear light blue robes with silver trim and silver goggles with blue glass lenses, and have light blue cloaks with silver trim held in place with a mothman-shaped brooch, made of aquamarine with silver fittings. The basic observational implement is a telescope, used in conjunction with a telescope and notepad.
Shamans wear dark green robes with bronze trim and light green face paint in variable patterns, and have dark green cloaks with bronze trim held in place with a griffin-shaped brooch, made of emerald with bronze fittings. The basic shamanic implement is a staff, decorated with eagle feathers and bones.
Sorcerers wear black robes with dark red trim and hoods, and have black cloaks with dark red trim held in place with a dragon-shaped brooch, made of ruby with bronze fittings. The basic sorcerous implement is a sacrificial knife, used in conjunction with blood and a grimoire.
Witches wear medium pink robes with violet trim and crowns of roses and violets (magically kept fresh), and have medium pink cloaks with violet trim held in place with a unicorn-shaped brooch, made of pink diamond with gold fittings. The basic witchcraft implement is a wand decorated with yew leaves and rose stems.
Wizards wear white robes with gold trim and cloth-of-gold stoles, and have white cloaks with gold trim held in place with a seraph-shaped brooch, made of pearl with gold fittings. The basic wizarding implement is a censer burning incense, used in conjunction with a holy book.
(The cloak is used for warmth or cool, depending on the climate - each mountain has its own magically-generated microclimate - and on formal occasions.)
Choose Your Magic School
So, a while back I developed a magic school divided into nine sub-schools; each sub-school is located on a mountaintop, collectively forming a circle of mountains, with a common space between them where students from all schools can meet.
The locations of the sub-schools are as follows:
Alchemists are located in a steampunk-style castle atop a mountain covered in birch woods, and they have an aviary of phoenixes.
Conjurers (think Ancient-Egyptian-style magic) are located in a giant pyramid atop a mountain covered in gardens like this, and they have a living sphinx who patrols the base.
Mystics are located in a wooden monastery atop a mountain covered in frozen waterfalls and snowy trees, and they have a yeti who hides in the forest.
Necromancers (who here can be good or evil) are located in catacombs amidst a mountain covered in mausoleums, gravestones etc. and willow and yew trees, and they have a pack of hellhounds who act as class pets.
Observers (UFO-based magic) are located in a giant observatory atop a mountain covered in dark pine woods, and they have a mothman who swoops around the trees.
Shamans are located in a treetop village atop a mountain covered in jungle, and they get up to and down from the villages by means of griffins.
Sorcerers (stereotypical evil magic, but can be good or evil) are located in a huge black tower atop a mountain covered in ash and dead trees, and they have a dragon in a cave on the mo.
Witches (rural magic) are located in a cute village of cottages atop a mountain covered in oak, beeches and streams, and they have a stable of unicorns.
Wizards (high-church-styled magic) are located in a Romanesque abbey complex atop a mountain covered in herb gardens, and they have apparitions of seraphim.
