he cares soooo deeply for people he keeps close and tee had all those deep tissue injuries that kept him back from playing with ja’marr :(( he’s gotta be vibrating with the need to mother hen the ever living shit out of tee and mentions his usual clinic but like forcefully because he can’t be casual about it and tee's like ok sure and ja’marr drags him to her like a pup trying to keep their favorite toy safe asking their owner to stitch up their ripped stuffing 💔💔💔

like imagining ja'marr being all fussy and pushy about tee going to her, who he knows and trusts and has seen actual results from in himself so he feels comfortable and confident in actually getting tee to do a session with her, and tee being exasperated at this loud little shit who would not shut up about him getting better so he goes partly because he trusts ja'marr and that he has his best interest at heart and he knows that the rehab session would be good for him but also in other part just to shut and soothe ja'marr up lmao.

AND WOW OKAY SO i assumed this before but like wasn't 100% sure but -> pretty sure this is a home visit right and that background's literally where tee did his session SO. what I'm saying is. tee did his session at ja'marr's place. at the same day probably so when one was being metaphorically smushed to pieces and stabbed with tiny little needles the other was sitting on the couch next to them probably yapping endlessly trying to make them laugh and getting yelled at by dr. ashley to keep their mouth shut.

just. ja'marr had added tee to his usual sessions </3 probably already had a usual date and time set up for himself for his weekly (?) resets and asked if she could add tee to her schedule so he can do his own rehab session and that kind of fucks me up deep inside because what do you mean he made tee do his usual rehab with him so tee would be healthier....what do you mean..........what do you meannnnnnn

y'all- ja'marr TRIED to make his relationship with tee like the one he had with justin. like you will not understand how utterly insane this made me feel. my mouth dropped when i read this shit. i originally put my Thoughts in an ask bc i was trying to finish it, but i had More thoughts. so.

ok, if you hadn't heard of ja'marr's recruitment, it's freaking wild (i had no clue ja'marr had a HOLE in his heart wtf) (also it makes my heart ache to hear ja'marr described as quiet and shy)

but to put the recruitment story short, ja'marr was the Guy that everyone wanted. florida, georgia, auburn, lsu -all of these schools were basically chasing this four star recruit down. he was that good and he knew it.

in the end, he goes to lsu and well. like i just said, ja'marr was the Star at high school, the Star that all the colleges wanted.

i just. i don't think he ever had someone on his level, you know? not until he meets justin at lsu. justin was probably the first wide receiver around ja'marr that could actually keep up with him. the first person who was just as good as ja'marr is, if not better.

this is ja'marr's first friendship with another elite wide receiver! and god, all they did at lsu was compete. there's entire articles about how justin and ja'marr used to bet on touchdowns and yards and basically everything. even with terrance marshall, ja'marr was still competing. that was their whole thing, their relationship. always seeing who's better, always pushing each other to be better.

above, i said baby ja'marr was described as soft-spoken (🥺) and yeah. it tracks. if you watch his interviews from college, he's quieter than he is now, still a little unsure of himself . i'll always think about that quote, that ja'marr had to start speaking up and demanding the ball because justin was. and once he started getting the ball, he showed everyone (including himself) what he was capable of. the confidence we see today? i think that's mostly bc of justin.

anyways when ja'marr got to cincy, it does make sense that he would try to go back to what he knew best, because again. jjmarr was probably ja'marr's first relationship with someone equal to him.

it just. it speaks volumes about ja'marr and justin's relationship. it says so much about how important justin was to a rookie ja'marr, that he was basically using that relationship as a freaking template. i'll always think about the effect covid had on ja'marr... the impact it had on his family... to be forced to isolate when he's basically been on a team all his life... to sit out the season and feel like he's failing his team... to only helplessly watch, all alone, as justin and joe ripped up the league...

justin was the first person that was on ja'marr's level, and he must've thought everyone would be like that. he must've thought that everyone who could compete with him, would want to compete.

so imagine a second-year tee in training camp, being befuddled and helplessly amused by this hyper and small rookie who keeps on following him around and trying to bait tee into betting on touchdowns, like wtf is the kid going on about 😭

then ja'marr has to slowly learn that. oh. it doesn't have to be about competing. not with tee. he doesn't need to prove he's the best with tee. he can just breathe. just exist.

it was important for high schooler ja'marr to have justin to pull him out of his shell, to give him confidence in himself, but it was equally important for rookie ja'marr (who just spent a year in quarantine and was suddenly tossed into the nfl) to have a safe space.

like, gentle reminder that ja'marr was being absolutely ripped apart in his rookie preseason (sooo unfair of the media btw he was a baby! a rookie! 😭😭😭). and everyone always remembers joe's press conference, but no one ever mentions that TEE made his own little protective comment:

imagine second year tee in preseason, who's walking down the hallway and hears sniffles from a random closet and opens it to a sobbing ja'marr reading mean stuff on the internet. and tee instantly realizes what's going on and ignores ja'marr's wrecked voice asking him to go away and just. sinks down and engulfs ja'marr in his arms and whispers that "it's all bullshit", "those idiots know nothing", "you're not a waste of a pick you're the best decision this organization has ever made".

and ja'marr just... folds into tee, closes his eyes and feels utterly safe.

(and when ja'marr proves everyone wrong, tee remembers that moment. remembers all the words that were said about ja'marr. sweet, sensitive ja'marr who cried because of those words. and he presses send on the tweet. the next practice, ja'marr is attached to the hip to tee and no one but joe realizes why. joe stays quiet but is pleased as a clam that his star receivers are not just getting along, but defending each other.)

!!! I have. so many thoughts regarding justin and tee and their different relationships with ja'marr. i wrote a lotttt

ok, ja'marr and justin reallly were attached at the damn hip. we all talk about the handshake and the dances and shit, but like. they used to share airpods. airpods, for fuck's sake. and the slushie/icee thing? 😭 how many of us used to have dumb arguments like that with our friends? it's those little things that really define jjmarr for me, the things that you'd only do with someone you love.

all of that is beautiful on its own, but it makes the ending hurt even more, doesn't it? you used to talk everyday and do everything together, now you need to schedule around practices and time zones and it's so much work. and then you get home and you're tired and before you know it, you haven't talked to them in weeks.

ok, pardon me for going on a side rant here, but i did try to use the twitter interactions as like a microcosm of the entire jjmarr relationship, to show how a friendship that close can fade over time.

the first three tweets (bantering about practice, making fun of justin's first down celebration, sharing airpods) are all in the lsu era (2018-2019) when they were still doing dumb shit in practice and hanging out and coming up with their silly celebrations

the next three (justin rolling his eyes at ja'marr flipping, ja'marr teasing justin's attempt to get into the nba, reminiscing about what they used to do in practice) is set in 2020-21 (when justin was in the nfl and ja'marr was not). and you can see! they're STILL bantering. still making fun of each other with delight! but it's about what they used to do, not what they're doing now then.

then the last time ja'marr mentioned justin on twitter, was last year (before justin signed his extension and everyone thought he might go to a diff team). justin never responded (on twitter, at least.) again ja'marr's said a few times that justin's the one that doesn't answer his texts. while i take his words with a grain of salt, all of the throwback photos and birthday posts are from ja'marr. i catch myself thinking about justin's most toxic trait being communication all the time.

now, do i think justin is at fault for the 'breakup'? no, i really don't think so. unreliable narration aside, they live in different states, different timezones. they have different schedules, different practices. justin has a c, ja'marr doesn't (yet). justin is like, the sole Face of The Franchise, whereas ja'marr has joe to carry the burden with him. my point is: justin has a different life and different responsibilities and it's understandable that a friendship would fade under those circumstances. it's life. it happens.

but for ja'marr... you can know that it's perfectly natural for friendships to fade. you can know that it's not anyone's fault. you can know that's just how life goes. but it still hurts, because of what you shared together. the friendship was still there! the memories still exist! the love didn't last, but that doesn't mean that it didn't matter. it mattered! it mattered a lot!

justin changed ja'marr (and ja'marr changed justin!) like all friendships do and especially with college friendships. in college, we still have no idea what we're going to do, who we are, and that's fine, because that's what college is for. it's just... when you don't know who you are, how are you supposed to tell where you end and where your friend begins? (there's a reason why college friendships can sometimes seem almost codependent and why so many fade out. when you grow that close to someone, the only direction left is away.)

so, getting back to tee, anon. yes, i do think the past jjmarr weighs deeply in ja'marr's mind with the current tee situation. he's clinging onto tee with everything he has, because he already knows how easily his best friend can slowly slip out of his life. like arguably justin and ja'marr were just as close, if not closer, than he is to tee rn (ARGUABLY). and if justin can drift away from him... in ja'marr's experience with justin, once you're on different teams, it'll never be the same. it'll never be what it once was. so if it were up to him, he won't let tee go on a different team, won't let tee become a stranger the way justin has.

then the competitive aspect bc i DO also have lots of thoughts of that. above, i said justin changed ja'marr. if you look at videos and even tweets of ja'marr before college, it's like a different person. he just seems so much more shy and quiet in those old videos 🥺! a baby! i don't know exactly how to describe it, but he's definitely not confident the way he is now. i do think justin was one of the main reasons why this is the version of ja'marr that exists. there's a quote somewhere, that ja'marr had to speak up and demand the ball because justin was. because justin was there, ja'marr had to learn to speak up for himself and come out of his shell.

it's always a competition with justin and ja'marr, that's part of their relationship. maybe they'll forget about the slushies/icees, about the airpods, but that competitiveness will always be there, pushing each other to new heights. now, ja'marr knows himself. he knows the heights he's capable of reaching, and you can see that. would he be the same without that competitive aspect in his relationship with justin? i don't know. i don't think so.

but with tee, as much as i've compared jjmarr to teemarr in this post, they're two entirely different relationships. tee... ugh, how do i phrase this? tee's... tee's gentler than either justin or ja'marr. whereas justin's reaction to ja'marr leading in triple crown stats earlier this year was "don't count me out", tee's was "i'll get to tell my kids i played with a triple crown wr". justin pushes ja'marr. tee supports ja'marr. they both affect ja'marr, help him get better just in different ways.

jjmarr hits different for me, bc i just love that drifting-apart angst, but really, teemarr is so so very special. in lsu, justin helped bring ja'marr out of his shell. in cincy, i consider tee to be the safe place for ja'marr, away from all the cameras and reporters. it has to be a lot -the social media trolls, the talk show bs, even the expectations of the fans. i have thoughts of an overwhelmed rookie ja'marr being found and comforted by tee. because having that one person that you can lean on, that one person who gives you peace... that makes a world of a difference.

Yes yes yes !!! Everything about this is so true and devastatingly accurate. They are two very different , but important relationships in Ja’Marr’s life and I can’t help but ache at how much he reaches out to Justin and not have the same love and energy reciprocated 😭😔

i am. so. so very sorry for how long it's taken me to answer this and apologies for the yapping (was NOT supposed to be this long but when i was writing this, i came across the most insaneee quote about ja'marr himself comparing jjmarr/teemarr and HAD to include it.)

i'm always a little cautious when it comes to statements like 'oh one of them was ALWAYS the bad guy', bc in my experience, relationships are a two-way street. i think that's probably the hardest part of rpf, remembering that we're only seeing what they CHOOSE to let us see. we see ja'marr reposting these throwback lsu photos, we don't see if justin is looking at those same photos on the verge of crying and unable to press repost bc he knows its gonna get analyzed and reanalyzed by the media (which is my headcanon bc i simply refuse to think that anyone can forget a relationship like that).

but Narrative wise, yes, the Public view of the jjmarr relationship is sooo heartbreaking. to be that close and to drift apart anyways... head in hands. just devastating.

like it's so beautiful and tragic to look back at them, bc you know. you know how it's ending. but at the same time, can't you see how much they loved each other? and they loved each other so damn much and they might not know each other the same way anymore, but that love is still there!

I like this idea! His agents coming up with the idea, and then Tee helping to design the whole thing and going to nola to surprise/cheer up Ja'Marr, who's pissed and devastated at losing opoy by THAT much and is indeed very surprised by Tee's appearance.

ja'marr and justin -> those type of near aged siblings who fight over the weirdest shit and get stupidly competitive over everything and disgustingly annoyingly overly smug over a win that they get into stupid fights one minute only to slam open the other's bedroom door the next hour saying excitedly 'bitch i got free coupons for ice cream' and the other immediately goes 'DAMN RIGHT let me drive' completely forgetting that they were fighting and then the cycle repeats all over again. you can see just how disgustingly close they were together during lsu and that's not really something that just goes away even through time you know? but i do believe they've both grown individually as people and maybe they wouldn't get along as well now as they do then because again, they've been pitted against each other over and over and over and fucking over oh my god but the love they have for each other is clear as they really when you take in account all they've been through together. and i've said up above how their entire thing has been drenched with Competition and that's different with ja'marr's thing with tee and that's not to say that he doesn't enjoy the competition with justin he clearly loves it lmao he wouldn't be such a good player in the league if he hates it lol. more said down below because again, very shittily structured :)
