8/17/2024: The premier leveling zone in Velious is a place known as Velketor’s Labyrinth, located on the western edge of the snowy wastes of the Great Divide, and home to the exiled frost giant sorcerer, Velketor. After my disastrous experiences in Chardok, I had high hopes that Velks (as it is commonly known) would turn my luck around. When a group invited me to the “lower dogs” (LD) camp, it was finally time to find out!

True to its name, the ice fortress is a veritable labyrinth, filled with slippery ledges and narrow bridges that twist and cross in a confusing web. Explaining to my group that it was my first time there, they were kind enough to send a guide to lead me to camp. The “lower” in “lower dogs” refers to the fact that the camp is in the lower depths of the fortress. The “dogs” refers to the fact that the area is overrun by kobolds–canine-like humanoids who generally despise adventurers. Once I learned my way around, I was able to pull for the group with great success! Kudos to Bluemez, Bluetank, Harland, Sinheal, and Tihm!

The EverQuest Teek and Tormax Progression Servers are Live!

The promised time locked progression servers for the EverQuest 25th anniversary went live yesterday without apparent incident. Teek and Tormax arrive Earlier in the week I gave Daybreak a poke when I mentioned that the Cataclysm Classic launch was unlike some of the Daybreak launches, with a projected go live time and an actual go live that sometimes arrives many hours later.  But the EverQuest…

8/30/2024: One of the consequences of EverQuest being such a group-centric game is that, after the bulk of the player population has moved beyond a certain level range, it can be very difficult for lower-level characters to find groups. And if they can’t find groups, and can’t meaningfully solo (which most classes can’t), players with lower-level characters often find themselves stuck, unable to reach the more populous level ranges. One solution to this problem is boxing, in which a single player runs multiple characters at once (often with the aid of third-party software tools). On Teek, though, boxing was severely restricted. Which leads to another common solution: powerleveling (PL).

Powerleveling typically consists of a lower-level character grouping with five powerful characters who then proceed to do the heavy-lifting of battling foes, while the lower-level character does little (or nothing), aside from soaking up experience. In most cases, the PL crew charges an agreed upon number of krono for their time. On Teek, powerleveling was big business, with advertising spam dominating the general chat channels. Most players regard powerlevelers somewhere between indifference to strong dislike. For my part, I was decidedly disinterested in their services, but otherwise gave them little thought, since they didn’t impact my personal gameplay. Until they did.

I was next invited to pull for a group heading into Velketor’s Labyrinth, to the upper dogs camp, which one of the group had scouted earlier and found to be clear. Being already familiar with the camp from my previous visit, we got right to work bashing kobolds. After a couple pulls, though, I noticed a lone Dark Elf by the name of Oogge skulking near the back of the camp, by a tunnel which led deeper into the fortress. Moments later, Oogge came streaking through our camp, followed closely by a massive horde of gargoyles and golems. As they passed through my hapless group, the monsters forgot their initial target and instead turned their wrath upon us. Within seconds, we had all fallen.

After they’d had their fill of cursing, my companions deduced that Oogge must have been a powerleveler operating deeper in the fortress. As powerlevelers are notoriously unwilling to share their claimed territory, he had apparently decided to shoo us away by deliberately training us (i.e. leading a horde, or train, of mobs onto us). Deciding it wasn’t worth trying to contest the camp with someone motivated by real-world greed, we changed picks, and began looking for a new camp.

Teken bevinden zich in het bos, park, hei, duinen of in je eigen tuin. Ze zitten in de buurt van bomen, struiken of hoog gras en dode bladeren. Het is altijd oppassen geblazen als je buiten bent. Als je door een teek gebeten bent, loop je het risico op de infectieziekte, de ziekte van Lyme. Om dat te voorkomen, moet een teek moet zo snel mogelijk worden verwijderd (binnen 24 uur is de kans op besmetting met Lyme klein). De nimf, de onvolwassen teek, is waarschijnlijk de belangrijkste overbrenger van deze ziekte. Ze zijn niet groter dan een speldeknop en vaak moeilijk te zien.
