I really love the Teddy Perkins episode.

On one hand it’s terrifying because as a viewer who loves horror you know straight away nothing good comes of going to an isolated mansion for a free piano.

But beyond that it is so sad? Like you have this person so fucking deeply consumed by the past and an inability to move forward that their home becomes a literal museum to the past and by doing that it is a sad attempt to have company, to seek out human connection without having to go into the real world and accept it has moved on from you and your family.

The idea that depression and severe physical abuse was the only way to make something beautiful and great, that rap isn’t matured because as said “sometimes people just want to have a good time” it’s something Teddy seemed lost about, the idea that music can be made just for fun by people having fun, but for him music is pain. Art is pain.

The misconception of the “he ate yellow paint to feel happy” that this is something beautiful when instead it is tragic.

Like and I love how isolating the episode is to watch, there is such a lonely desperation to the whole of it and Teddy dragging another person into this escalating cycle of tragedy and violence.

"Ready Teddy" (1956)

"Ready Teddy" was written by John Marascalco and Robert Blackwell. The song was first made famous by Little Richard, when his recording was released in June 1956. Below is Little Richard performing the tune live.

Different artists covered the song, such as Buddy Holly, Carl Perkins and even John Lennon, releasing his cover in the 70s, several years after the tune was first released.

Elvis recorded "Ready Teddy" the same year it was first made famous by Little Richard, 1956. Below is Elvis performing the song for one of his appearances on the Ed Sullivan Show, on September 9, 1956. "Ready Teddy" had been recorded just days before, on September 3 at Radio Recorders in Hollywood, CA. The Ed Sullivan Show was the first time Elvis performed it live.

"Ready Teddy" was released on Elvis' second LP, "Elvis", on October 19, 1956.
