Ted Lasso x Reader

WARNINGS; referenced/implied physical and verbal abuse, panic attack, mild arguing, reader is a bit self deprecating, reader has issues relating to their father (only partly mentioned) :(, angst with a happy ending!

Synopsis; Reader has doubts about their ability to be a good partner, accidentally causing a small fight between them and Ted. Reader ends up having an anxiety attack but Ted is there to comfort them.

Ted was probably one of if not the best boyfriend you’ve ever had, he was caring, happy, and always did anything he could to make sure you felt safe and loved. He would give you space if you needed it, hugs when you wanted the opposite.

As amazing as it was, it almost felt wrong. It made you feel like maybe you weren’t doing enough. Sometimes you’d have bad thoughts about your relationship, sometimes you’d think that maybe you didn’t deserve him.

But not wanting to ruin one of the best relationships ever, you said nothing. You let it fester, grow.

You slowly started pulling away, going out more when Ted was staying in, not stopping by his work as often, avoiding spending meals with him, anything you could.

And Ted noticed it, and it took him almost a month to say something.

“Did I do somethin’ to upset you sweetheart?”

You paused, fingers stopped moving around the keyboard of your computer as you worked on something you weren’t even fully sure of.

“No, nothing.” It took you a while to say it, putting those two words together seemed to have been impossible for some reason, talking to him about this seemed impossible.

“Are you sure? ‘Cause I feel like you haven’t been, happy, around me darlin’. And I wanna make sure I can try and make it better.” You finally look up from the screen in front of you, his eyes looked genuine, but you could have sworn you saw just the slightest amount of annoyance in them. “I’m sure.”

Moving your gaze back down to your computer, you could hear Ted start to get up and move around, his final destination sitting down next to you, slowly closing your computer and moving it away. “Darlin’, I know you, at least I like to think I do.” Looking back up at him again, you could see his smile that was attempting to make you happy.

“What’s the problem?” You knew he was trying to help, you knew, deep down, that you should talk to him. But instead, you got defensive.

“I said it’s nothing Ted, leave it.” The words tumbled out of your mouth to quick for you to stop them, the tone you used surprised yourself, it sounded harsh. “Darlin’ I just don’t know what to do, i’ve done everythin’ i can to try and fix this but it feels impossible for me.”

You stayed silent, his voice rose in volume by a just a bit but it sounded like a yell.

“Can you talk to me? Please? Say something?”

You said nothing, instead opting to dip your head down, looking at your lap instead of at Ted. It was easier to avoid the conversation than try and fix it, to risk the possibility it would turn into something bigger scared you so badly.

You looked up and saw his hand moving towards you, and suddenly you felt like a scared kid again, your chest felt tight, your hearing started to get overwhelmingly sensitive before it seemed to just stop working.

You could feel your tears on your face as you fell backwards in your chair, the air being slightly knocked out of you before desperately scrambling backwards.

Realistically you knew you were safe, you knew Ted wouldn’t in a thousand years even think about harming you. But right now you where in flight or fight, rational thoughts where out the window and in another country. Right now you were a kid screaming and crying to try and get away from your dad.

Somehow in the middle of the crying and screaming you could hear Ted’s voice, softly spoken as always, he said your name so lovingly. He didn’t try to come close or touch you, he just sat down on the floor next to you and started talking calmly. At first you couldn’t understand more than a few words, slowly you were able to understand fully understand what he was saying.

He was recounting your first date.

Every moment, he talked about the restaurant you went to, the park you walked in, the movie you watched at his house after.

“For how much you claimed to loved that movie, ya’ know I think you didn’ really like that movie.” He chuckled to himself lightly, thinking fondly of the memory.

“..I did like that movie.” He looked for to you quickly, he looked shocked for a split second, then so happy you thought he may melt. He moved towards you but quickly stopped. “Are you good with contact right’ now darlin’?” You nodded your head slowly, and he moved over to you. Hugging you tightly and slowly soothing your back.

“Do you wanna talk about it love?” was the first thing said after almost 20 minutes, he held you close the entire time, not even once adjusting his position or anything, just making sure you felt safe. It took you a moment but you shook your head, not trusting your voice just yet. “That’s okay darlin’, that’s okay. I’m here when you need me.”

Is there/could there be a fic where

1) Roy takes the yoga mums to the charity gala after he’s been promoted to gaffer and just tells them it’s a work thing that he thinks they’ll have fun at and he buys them all glorious outfits and gets them a limo, the whole nine, and all they have to do is bid on Jamie for him.

2) Roy asks Jamie “do you trust me? Then have fun. Peacock. Pull an audible and tell the bidder they can pick the date. Enjoy your prick self.”

3) the mums buy his date and tell him he needs to wear clothes he can be *flexible* in and roy just tells Jamie to go with it.

4) date is just regular yoga night with Roy and the mums with wine (that Roy lets Jamie have TWO glasses of) and reality tv show watching and boy problem bitching and he has an absolute blast.

5) the mums “misunderstand” and make comments about how cute a couple they’d make all night.

Either pre-relationship or getting together.

No. 51: When Ted tells Henry he wants to propose to Rebecca, Henry asks if he can propose too. After all, she's not just saying yes to being Ted's wife, but to being Henry's stepmother, too...

Henry Lasso looked sharp. Really, really sharp. He had big plans tonight. He and his dad had painstakingly chosen everything they’d need for that night. They were ready. They had taken the tube into the city, he’d never been in a shop which kept the doors locked before. He’d stuck close to his dad, ooh’d and ahh’d at the right moments. They’d gone home via the grocery store and picked out the very best ingredients, he’d chosen the dessert. At home, he’d made sure his dad didn’t go too far off the rails of the recipe. They didn’t need a repeat of the cheese sauce of 2019 where his dad had switched out the cheese for one which really didn’t work. Once dinner was prepped as much as it could be, they’d gotten changed. His dad had shaved, Henry hadn’t. They’d put on matching suits. After his dad had told him the plan, Henry had begged for a suit so they’d gone to get one from the same tailor. Finally, Henry put the last touches to his contribution, and they were ready.

“Hello darlings! I’m home!” Rebecca called out from the foyer. She could see the kitchen lights were on so made her way through to a beautiful candlelit table set for three. Ted and Henry were both dazzling in their suits

“Happy birthday Becca!” They both cheered. She’d had the loveliest day with Keeley at her favourite spa, and now she was home with her favourite boys, and from the wonderful smell in the kitchen, her favourite meal was on the menu. Her hand covered her heart,

“My men. Thank you so much, this looks gorgeous!” She’d opened her arms for a hug for Henry, letting him instigate it and then she’d stepped into Ted’s embrace.

“Beautiful birthday girl.” He whispered, kissing her softly. “Here, sit.” He pulled out her chair and poured her a glass of wine.

“What a wonderful surprise. I hope you haven’t worked too hard for me?”

“Course not,” Ted chuckled with an exaggerated wink to Henry. The meal was, as expected, perfect. Rebecca had long declared that she’d never tire of Ted’s cooking, and the only other person who’s culinary skills she’d ever need was Roy’s. Ted decided he could live with that - Roy did make a mean Arrabiata sauce. They all sat back in their seats, full and happy. “Hen, you wanna go switch the oven on for dessert?”

“Sure Dad.” Henry got up and clicked a few well practised buttons. When he returned, Ted stood from the table, adjusted the leg of his suit trousers and got down on one knee in front of Rebecca. Next to him, Henry did exactly the same thing. Rebecca was gobsmacked, tears spilling down her cheeks.

“Honey, I got an important question for you. It’s taken us a while to get here, but I don’t want to live another second of my life without you in it. Will you do me the honour of marrying me?” He opened a jewellery box with a stunning off-pink diamond ring.

“And Rebecca, I got an important question for you too. I’m gonna be here a lot, and I’m gonna need someone like you - cos I think you’re really great, I wonder if you’d do me the honour of being my bonus-mom?” Henry opened his own jewellery box with his own purple pipe cleaner ring with a little pink bead centre. The gasp Rebecca had let out at Ted’s proposal was eclipsed by the sob she’d let out at Henry’s. She nodded through her tears, barely able to speak.

“Yes, yes to both of you, of course yes!” Henry put his ring on her finger first and Ted followed, the more traditional band keeping Henry’s ring in place. She joined them, kneeling on the floor and pulling them both into a fierce hug. “I love you both so very much.” She murmured once she’d recovered her breath and her voice.

“And we love you too.”

“We both love you, mum.”

"i hope nate returns to his old self" what old self? do you want him to be the sweet but unassuming, shy guy, is that what you want? because there's no old self for nate to go back to. he's growing as a person into a better version of himself that's neither past nor present and yet both altogether. traces of the old self mixing with the new and creating something better, someone confident and smart and sweet. someone who will be ready to make amends, likely, while hopefully also staying independent.

so he won't be "coming back", returning to anything. that would suck.

Back when season 3 had yet to begin filming, someone on Twitter posted a Tedbecca centric post and as per usual, an anti swooped in with his unrequested opinion. In this instance, his response was a gif of Steve Harvey saying, “OH HELL NAW!”

I saw the response and just shrugged because antis be antis. But the original poster recognized the name of the person as a crew member on Ted Lasso – 2nd Assistant Director Paul Morris. When a few others caught on he responded, clearly a little embarrassed, that he only wanted everyone to be happy, but that he wasn’t a Tedbecca fan.

I remember thinking at that time that was very strange. To see a member of the crew, no matter how high up the food chain they may be, post something either negative or positive towards this ship. Obviously this guy isn’t writing the scripts, but it seemed wildly unprofessional.

I think now the MO around the Ted Lasso team was Jason drilled into their heads since day 1 that Ted and Rebecca were platonic and that was it. They never saw it any other way. They messed around with the fakeouts because Jason Sudeikis is a fucking troll and you can see that in various interviews he’s done.

I’ve been clinging to the image of Brett Goldstein raising his eyebrows at a columnist’s smug dismissal of Ted and Rebecca’s romantic possibilities. Most likely that was an act too. I should have paid more attention to Jane “they are like brother and sister” Becker. Clearly that was what they were going for, but they couldn’t resist sticking that needle in and giving it a little twist at our expense.

There was a recent article posted that stated this has made some of us cower in shame for ever believing in love. I don’t disagree; it’s certainly made me think twice about starting another show that might feature any sense of romance, even though as mentioned that hasn’t really been an issue with me in the past. Still, I will not EVER apologize for believing in love for these two. There was nothing lazy about it. It would have been beautiful and if you never saw it that is fine. But don’t take it away from me. Something I also read in the past few days that I think has helped me tremendously is the fact that as of this past Wednesday (technically 12:15am for me) this show became OURS. It isn’t Jason’s or Brendan’s or anyone else’s on that staff. It is mine and yours and we can do with it whatever we want. I like that.
