Thinking back on Bandai Namco saying that Samurai Remnant was originally conceptualized as a Soulslike, and the non-zero chance that some kind of follow-up game goes in that direction, I’m curious to hear your thoughts about what kind of setting you’d want out of a game like that, since they probably can’t do the Edo period again. I thought something in the late Heian era with Yoshitsune and Shizuka would be neat, considering how little of them we’ve actually seen in the wider Fate universe.
If you're going to do a Soulslike, I don't think you go with Servants since you're restricted from building multiple ways (Servants are all about having strong identities after all) and generally you're not going to be wandering around lost as hell.
As much as I would have preferred Samurai Remnant to not be a musou, I can clearly understand why it wasn't a Soulslike instead when an important part of it is revealing Iori's true self, which is expressed through his sword techniques inherited from Musashi. You also wouldn't have all the Rogue servants being playable, which would be a no-go for a Fate title.
That being said, Koei Tecmo's idea of a soulslike is faster and more combo-based than Fromsoft's, so you don't necessarily need to start with an underpowered character like Iori vs servants.
Anyway, if you want a protagonist that is often wandering the unknown, quickly masters multiple weapons, is talented in both the arcane and martial arts, is able to take powers/skills from bosses, dies and resurrects each time, and often slays monstrous creatures both terrifying to witness and sad to watch (due to clearly only being shades of their former glory), just make a Soulslike game starring Ciel.
Set it between 2002-2014, when Ciel is first released from the Church's experiments and is tasked with becoming their immortal vampire hunter. She has raw magical power rivaled by few and a weapon in Seven that transforms between multiple forms meaning you can do whatever the hell you want, and her whole shtick is dying and coming back over and over and over again until her target is dead (and the Remake even lets her take their powers).
Think about it. Shiki vs Vlov in the Arcueid route practically turns into a tribute to Ludwig halfway through, from Vlov remembering himself, progressing from rampaging beast into a honorable knight as Shiki starts pressuring him, to Vlov even having his own My Guiding Moonlight moment when he refuses to use his emergency blood and chooses to die as a man instead. A Tsukihime setting would fit the Soulslike format way more than a Fate one would /biased

Could you elaborate on the God Of War Warriors?
Oof, this has been around for a bit, but I never go too into depth so- here we go!
Warriors is the only Link out of the Chain who is not cannon to the Zelda timeline due to the fact that he is the product of the unlawful union of two companies and therefore not of House Nintendo, but rather his other creator, Koei Tecmo. He is, affectionately, Nintendo's bastard child :)
Now, in universe, there is no way that would make sense, but there's also the fact that no one has freaking heard of this guy despite the fact that he's fought foes on the same level and even higher than some of the other heroes. What gives? Flora can name the Hero of Legend, talk of the heroes of Twilight, Time, Skies and the Winds yet the Hero of Warriors goes forgotten? They literally know about Sky, there is no way Wars is just "too ancient" to be remembered.
My answer to this sprung on me when I wrote my Eldritch Heroes post back in 2021. Warriors isn't remembered as a Hero of Courage because he is, instead, regarded as Hyrule's God of War.
Warriors is set apart from all other heroes in that his quest centered not around solving puzzles, completing dungeons, and fighting various bosses in order to gain the tools to fight Ganon, but rather on the fact that Hyrule was actively at war with various threats, and it wasn't only a hero's duty to save the kingdom, but the duty of the army, of which he was part. Warriors is the only hero of his kind and essentially embodies, at least to future generations, the ideals of what it is to be a soldier and a knight, if not a hero (there are other heroes for that, but hero is unattainable for some, knight/soldier is not).
At first I simply meant that Warriors would be revered by future generations as a war deity, but then I said "screw it!" and decided he literally is the Deity of War.
"But, Ketto" I hear some saying, "what about the Fierce Deity? Isn't he the deity of war?"
No, my darlings, he is the deity of the fierce, it's there in his name. He is the guardian of the wielders of courage, the embodiment of ferocity, not of war.
Warriors is the one whose heart beats to the beat of a battle song, whose blade never dulls and whose eyes light with holy fire when he stands on a field of battle. He's the one who sees the souls of the fallen soldiers, the one blessed and cursed with the weight of lives to take and spare as he pleases. Blood spilled on the field is a sacrifice that makes him stronger, even if he doesn't realize so. This is the hero who embodies war, who embodies the suffering and sacrifice that is endured, the one who is cause, sufferer, and victor.
He is not remembered as a hero, he is remembered as a god.
I have some lore on this, and some explanations on the "how" and "why", but they're actually huge spoilers for a big project of mine, so I'll just leave it here for now :)

As Fandom continues to drive away editors and readers with their numerous ads, the Koei Tecmo Wiki has decided to migrate away from the site and go independent. The move happened for some time, though it wouldn't have been possible without the intervention of certain fans who were rightfully concerned about the content being stuck in Fandom's grasp. The wiki was fortunately able to migrate before the company decided to tighten its forking policy in an attempt to discourage users from leaving.
Truth be told, the greatest obstacle to moving away from Fandom is competing with them over search engine optimization (SEO) which means the independent wiki will constantly struggle getting more attention in search engines like Google or Bing. Nonetheless, ardent fans are willing to risk that if it means they can gain independence and give readers a better experience using their wikis.
It's not just the Koei Tecmo Wiki that has moved away from Fandom. Other wiki communities like the Zelda Wiki, the Hollow Knight Wiki, the Shin Megami Tensei Wiki, and the Toontown Rewritten Wiki have all departed from the company in order to make a stand for both themselves and their respective fan base.

Happy to hear recommendations for my very specific Type, which is overly intensely devoted lesbian [actual or We Can Tell C'mon] who acts in a knight/attendant/protector type role towards the girl she's normal about, frequently to immoral or self-sacrificing extent for the lengths she's willing to go for her. I'm equally entertained by this whatever the beloved's reaction is (they're actually together, mutual feelings, she's callously playing on the servant's devotion, it's unrequited and she's oblivious, unrequited and she's creeped out...)
Basically I encountered Soifon from Bleach at a formative age and that explains everything I have ever written since
tbh girl you've already watched everything I was going to recommend 😭😭😭😭😭 ummmmm unless you haven't watched Star Trek Voyager yet idr if you got started on that. Not because it's really that but because it has Other Things you'll enjoy I think. Wait have you watched Kamikaze Girls yet PLEASE DO it's not really a yuri but it's not in the way that most things that came out in the 2000s weren't if you get what I mean. uhhhh you've also seen Hellsing right. what if you were like me and Coped with the fact that almost every girl in DW is someone's wife by shipping Wang Yuanji (tiny blonde ice cold tsundere (heavy on the tsun basically no dere which is kinda based considering she's a Post-Tecmo-Merger Girl which means that she was added almost entirely for fanservice) with big boingas who is kind of the tutor/babysitter/later wife of Sima Yi's stoner loser son) with Zhang Chunhua (Sima Yi's extremely dominant wife who constantly showers Yuanji with affection and is always saying how smart and pretty she is. she also has big boingas)

Top Some Number of Games
Wondering what my Top 25 games list looks like these days? So am I! It’s easy to play a game and go “Wowee! Elden Ring is the bestest thing ever! It is the best game out of all of the games!”
But the long view is much more interesting to me. There are enough games out there being made with enough competency that I can have a decent time with most of them. My measuring stick for quality is the innocuous “Is it on my mind at all when I’m not playing it?”
Similarly, most years there is a game or two that makes it onto my top 10, and I look back later and feel no connection to it. For example, looking back I find both Gris and Immortals: Fenyx Rising in my top 10 lists. Neither occupies any real estate in my brain. Dead Cells though? Loop Hero? Florence? These have been rolling around my mind somewhere in back since I played them, and all missed my top 10 lists.
My long term feelings on a game mean much more to me than the short term. I don’t know why this is the case, but it is.
Legend of Zelda Tecmo Super Bowl A Link to the Past NHL 94 Final Fantasy Tactics Planescape Torment Diablo II The Sims Dragon Quest VIII Guitar Hero II Persona 3 Okami Portal Dungeons of Dredmor Journey Heroes of the Storm Stardew Valley Darkest Dungeon Hollow Knight Nier Automata Yakuza 0 Night in the Woods Astro Bot Rescue Mission Disco Elysium Hades Yakuza Like a Dragon Spiritfarer Monster Train Elden Ring Baldur’s Gate 3

How the world failed Chris-chan - a followup
A year ago today, I published How the world failed Chris-chan as an analysis post following CWC’s arrest on incest charges. Currently, despite outrageous rumours of CWC apparently escaping custody, CWC is still in custody on yet another continuance until next year (there have been numerous continuances over the past year). Unfortunately, because the case has been sealed and the CWCki is (at the time of this post) down following a DDoS attack on the Kiwi Farms, chances are we won’t get any further details for a while.
I’ve noticed the post getting sporadic likes over the past year, which I really appreciate, because it inspired me to do this quick followup post. Looking back, although my prediction of CWC being found guilty in September last year obviously turned out to be wrong, much of what I said in the post is still somewhat correct given the discussion that pops up every now and again when CWC trends on Twitter.
Something I’ve noticed is how people were so shocked at how the events unfolded at the time that they wanted to disassociate themselves from CWC, but then gradually, they became more comfortable reassociating with CWC and/or Sonichu, particularly given what was written in the letters that CWC sent to people from jail. Geno Samuel delayed Part 60 of his documentary for a few months and Sonichu fanartists (some who were white knights/enablers of CWC) decided to “reclaim Sonichu” and continue their fan projects without the involvement of CWC or featuring Chris-chan Sonichu.
I’ll admit that I was in that camp of people struggling about what to do with their Sonichu fanprojects when the scandal came out. At the time, my plans for Soulbound Series 4 were pretty much set in stone, plus “CWC’s” involvement in it was central to the endgame, so nothing changed on that aspect. I was going to feature “CWC” early on in my version of Kamen Rider Zi-O as Another OOO, but I decided against it when the scandal came out. However, by the end of the series, I had no qualms featuring “CWC” because of what he said about his mother and I was looking for filler content anyway.
Speaking of CWC’s mother, Barbara, one of the more astonishing things I saw in the recent letters was how CWC was willing to throw Barbara under the bus and evict her from her home just so he could go back there eventually. CWC was basically close enough to calling Barbara a bitch and disowning her without actually disowning her. This just goes to show how much CWC failed themselves more than Barbara or anyone else.
Anyway, look forward to when I cover Sonichu content in the Soulbound series for Kisekae Insights. Hopefully, it’ll be more interesting than continuing to speculate on what happens next.

Doctor Who 2022 Easter Special Review: Legend of the Sea Devils
Tumblr media
Air date: 17 April 2022
So it’s been a little while since the boring slogfest that was the 2022 New Year Special, Eve of the Daleks. Let’s take a look into the 2022 Easter Special and see if it is a little breath of fresh air in a polluted landscape.
This episode is another first for Asian representation in a while outside of my personal project fanfiction, with Chinese pirates being the focus of this episode which is also directed by Chinese director Haolu Wang. This episode is also another episode to not be solely written by Chris Chibnall as it was co-written by Ella Road, so it’ll be nice to see how it differs from Chibnall’s notable episodes.
My spoiler-free thought for this episode comes in the form of a song which I’ve been dying to use when I heard that Madam Ching would be featured in this episode:

Spoilers continue after the break.

People out there complaining about translations and localisations in Japanese games and I’m here like, I just want a decently dubbed Koei Warriors game, is that so much to ask?
(for all intents and purposes this is partially satire, I’ve done rants about this subject before and I’m well aware of the situation)

The Sea Princesses Iceberg Part 2: Adventures in horny jail
Well, some real developments have happened since I posted the first part of the Sea Princesses Iceberg. Aside from posting the wallpapers, releasing the Brazilian Portuguese dub and stating my intentions to refresh my translations and reviews, two YouTubers I mentioned in the first part reciprocated my mention, namely MJZD Gaming and Liamasterink, the latter of whom made the iceberg video that inspired said post and also got me wanting to give my own take on it. Now I have no reason to delay writing the second part any longer. By the way, I’ve also seen myself being mentioned in their comment sections, so thanks for the shoutouts and acknowledgments.
Without any further ado, here is the video:
youtube
Before I go on, I want to talk a little bit about how production of the video has changed since the first part. Liam now represents himself with a picture of his channel logo on Hugo’s head and the video also adds two text-to-speech narrators (as if he wasn’t using one already) to represent Marli and Marcello. This comes after he did a similar thing in a video representing a kind of “rap battle” between Marli and Delfi (after a 7-minute prelude, no less). At least the auto-transcription is working on the second part so it’s not killing me this time.
Here is Liam’s second iceberg. He’s kind of improved a bit from the first one even though that’s not how iceberg memes are done, but the errors aren’t egregious:

As always, this is my translation:

The Koei Tecmo New Normal Copium
Tumblr media
Ten years ago, on 20 March 2012, Koei Tecmo released Warriors Orochi 3 in the West without English dubbing. That day marked the start of Koei Tecmo’s disgrace to the Western fanbase and English dub fans in particular. People are probably going to gaslight me for this given that I’m talking about the whole of Koei Tecmo’s Western fanbase, but I say this because over the next decade, that disgrace continued to the point where they didn’t just cut corners in localisation, they cut corners in their games as well and by the time Dynasty Warriors 9 came out on 13 February 2018, the apathy set in and I had lost all optimism that Koei Tecmo would properly localise or dub their games again.
In the past two years, the term “new normal” has been used to describe how people around the world would live their lives as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, but recently, I realised that Koei Tecmo not dubbing their games has been their “new normal” for the past decade. In short, they thought the fans were fine with it, so they just carried on with that for future games, without taking other opinions into consideration. Am I the only one who’s starting to think that democracy as we know it is flawed?
Anyway, I already said as much when I said that I would be leaving the Koei Tecmo fandom in my post about Dynasty Warriors 9. As a result, I wouldn’t have gone to the effort of making this post in normal circumstances, so why did I do it? It’s because I’ve decided to return to the Koei Tecmo fandom on my own terms. This post is the end result of the Koei Tecmo fanbase huffing the new normal copium and my analysis of Koei Tecmo as a business over the past decade. My upcoming plans for Koei Tecmo content have already been covered in a separate post if you’re not interested in this one.

AUGUST 2018 UPDATE www.arcadequartermaster.com
This month, three more beat-em-up shrines are live on the site. Since my connection and laptop are acting up while I’m still busy looking out for some of my old stuff, the shrines are more like mini-shrines because of minimal use of items to warrant separate Item pages.
TECMO KNIGHT: This medieval fantasy brawler follows two knights to lay siege on the fortress of the dark lord Wild Fang with the aid of mighty companions: the Smokeman, the Tiger and the Dragon. A solid title which captures some of the classic sword and sorcery with its gruesome intro and monster slaying effects that Tecmo has dabbled in with some of its late 80s titles.
KNUCKLE BASH: Toaplan’s sidescrolling beat-em-up follows three heroic wrestlers to dismantle the evil Mad Bulls wrestling organization. Use your signature wrestling and grappling moves to take down two major factions of the organization, recruiting two more former villains to your cause! Together, you must unite to battle the Mad Bull himself.
D.D.CREW: Sega’s obscure brawler takes the eponymous quartet to destroy the gangs under the employ of Zero Corp’s corrupt CEO. Each hero has his unique fighting style to take down numerous mobsters and gang leaders. While it has a cool soundtrack and okay controls, the game fell into obscurity, and it would have been greater if Sega made a Streets of Rage arcade version instead or even introduce D.D.Crew as a possible part of the SoR universe.
Enjoy the new shrines and don’t forget to follow the site’s twitter and instagram pages.
