Update for the masses: I had hoped that getting a brand new (much needed) phone would fix tumblr’s recent habit of being glitchy to the point of near inusability, but I was wrong!! This app’s ability to malfunction never ceases to amaze me🤩🤩🤩

Now I have the pleasure of choosing between the existing glitches, and deleting the app to redownload, which in the past has deleted my entire blog for some reason :)))

Unrelatedly my new phone cannot make phone calls, which is arguably the whole point?

Columbo and the Knight (1984)

put me in the universe where Columbo ran through the 1980s and had a crossover episode with Knight Rider. I think they deserved it, and I am not just saying that because they're my two favorite Old Shows. @telebeast wrote a little fanfic blurb about it and I HAD to visualize it into a comic (which is also the longest comic I have finished thus far at five pages...), so writing credit goes to them.

huh, ok. iTunes needs to be reauthorized, and needs Windows to install a driver for the phone, and the phone hates some USB ports on this computer but not others. and iTunes won't back up any of the apps anymore?! and none of the non-iTunes utilities I used to use to do iPhone stuff seem to exist anymore

wander's not like. super public with the cult the way hater is with his empire in the show, so i don't know whether he'd be airing something like that across the galaxy. hater's got like. totally negative charisma, especially when he's being recorded, and yet he continues recording himself, and i think that's a trait meteor would still share with him. mr meteor is very much like metroman of megamind to me, also, where he quits his life of fame & glory to become a nobody, but he still has that streak of like. craving the kind of attention a rockstar gets as opposed to the superhero/king treatment.

so i imagine the shorts would be like. meteor's vlogs on his youtube or something. and he's starting a series called Inside Planet Yonder or whatever where he sets up a camera in an unassuming place and does little dances for the camera until he gets caught. like a prank show or something, but very benign and mildly annoying as opposed to antagonistic. this does require the shorts to take place before wander is redeemed, but honestly, the timeline in this au is so scrambled when you try to put it up against the show itself (which is already crammed into two very short seasons) anyway

New Year’s resolution is to post more so I’m gonna start off with critiquing generative AI.

My dad sent me this for new years. Obviously he didn’t know it was Ai and I didn’t immediately know for sure but I got the feeling. The feeling that’s like “hey something is off about this.” I wanted to talk about the process of recognition that I go through as an artist when I see something made by Ai because a lot of the time at first glance nothing seems wrong.

First thing that I notice is how after 2025 there something that is clearly supposed to be an exclamation point but it’s too small and incomplete. This immediately made me realize for sure that it’s Ai. Ai is usually bad at doing text and it would be pretty easy for a human to fix.

Then I see the rest of the inconsistencies. The n in new is disconnected. There is a stray line coming out of the h in happy. Snoopy’s hands: one has a different line weight and the other has a finger that’s way too small. The stray little lines on Snoopy’s mouth. Woodstock only having one eye brow. Then this part is debatable since it is clearly trying to replicate the style of the CGI Peanuts movie, but Snoopy’s eyes being different sizes bothers me. The ear which I didn’t even circle is probably trying to replicate the loosely colored in ears in the comic strip, but in the CGI version it’s fully colored in. The golden firework blending into the top of Snoopy’s hat. Woodstock’s hands. Woodstock’s feet. The blurriness of Snoopy’s foot that isn’t anywhere else. The lines on Snoopy’s foot which doesn’t reach the end. The blurriness at the top of Woodstock’s head.

As an artist in art school we are critiqued on every little detail of our work. These kinds of inconsistencies are not okay for professional artists to make so the idea that companies want to use Ai shows how little they cared about artists in the first place. Any company that uses Ai instead of hiring an artist is clearly is cheap and is making themselves look bad.

I know that Ai can look convincing and pretty at first glance, but I want people to look at artwork for more than a few seconds. With social media everything is so fast paced and we are conditioned to to want instant gratification, so Ai is a quick and easy way to make ‘content.’ But the things that generative Ai makes are low quality and infuriating to see as an artist. I would much rather see someone try to make art as a beginner than see a computer steal art from other people.

So when you share or like something take an extra second to see if it was made by a person because if a person didn’t even care enough to make it it’s not worth your time.

Alec vs. household chores

Yeah, sure, Magnus normally uses magic for most things, but he still does have a fridge and a stove and a washer and a dryer, etc. Because, you know, sometimes it's fine to do things the mundane way. What if Alec had no idea how housework worked, because living in the institute for all his life, clothes and food and all that stuff was provided. And then one day Alec, wanting to do something nice for Magnus, decides to do a load of laundry. Everything is pink afterwards. (Magnus is like: "That's alright Darling. I can pull it off. ;-)" )

in my childhood, i was gifted one of those books of random facts. one of them was about 'famous doctors' in media, one of them being doctor who, with a short explanation below - that he's actually not really a doctor, but an eccentric alien with two hearts, who helps humanity.

however, as a kid with no acces to british television and basic level of english, facts mixed in my head, and i became convinced that the fact was refering to doctor House, from the famous show doctor house, which my mom watched sometimes. so everytime i hung around and it was on the tv i looked at it and thought "damn, that's pretty stressful. not only is this guy puking his guts out but they'll have to deal with aliens at some point"

I haven't taken any formal art classes (except for some casual ones as a kid, but I didn't learn much).

I'm just someone who loves drawing, always carries a sketchbook or iPad, and creates 5–6 new canvases a day for fun. (Like many hobbyists do?)

I study a lot of fanart, movie/show/game screenshots, photos... and try to learn by replicating what I see.

It's surprising to hear you think I've improved—thank you! Personally, I feel like my style is all over the place, and my skill level fluctuates because I haven't had structured training.

If you want faster progress, I'd recommend learning fundamentals like anatomy, color theory, and composition from professionals. Don't just wing it like I do!
