WARP CORE DEEP DIVE!
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/adc9f032b6052e8c25c12cc9b2789e94/c2706f32f1df52f1-e4/s540x810/bb0f64bf22a5c443730b6e9afaa512db2c576c3d.jpg)
Where it all began. So much so, that they never quite nailed down what anything in engineering was. We know the thing in the middle was a "matter/antimatter integrator" and it had a dilithium crystal in it. But it didn't appear until later on, the floor was originally empty. There were also large transformer-ish things that moved about as the plot demanded. The big thing behind the mesh? That's the pipe cathedral. Maybe it was an impulse engine (as per the old Star Trek Blueprints by Franz Joseph) or perhaps it was part of the warp drive. Originally the idea was that the warp nacelles generated their own power. But that would change soon...
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/6438d76f095b838c23b88c07954d3838/c2706f32f1df52f1-8b/s540x810/b7ec3ee88d17f1398596db527e9fca5eb2474776.jpg)
The Animated Series gave us something very similar to the TOS engine room, with the pipe cathedral and one BIG transformer, but instead of the matter/antimatter integrator we got a glass tube with what looked like measurements on it. Maybe it's a proto-warp core a la TMP, especially since it's in a similar spot to Strange New Worlds'. Or maybe it's a coolant pipe like the 2009 movie. Who knows? We also saw inside the "antimatter nacelle" in one episode, which is generally assumed to mean inside one of the warp engines themselves but it's all a bit vague.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/135f920a4c6e57253a1a9b5450e55e2d/c2706f32f1df52f1-c6/s540x810/bc73cb393ca3c3817ea7d8120b07b49b47cdd94b.jpg)
The Motion Picture gave us the original Big Blue Lava Lamp, the physical set was 3 stories high but augmented with forced-perspective, in the form of a painting at the bottom of the shaft and a truncated horizontal intermix chamber crewed by children at the end of the main level. The engineering crew on the main deck now wear radiation suits, adding to the idea this big blue thing isn't your friend.
This was also the Big Retcon, making the intermix chamber the power source for the warp nacelles. Every Trek regardless of era would follow this route.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/6716c2470358266a7bdd218367eab3e1/c2706f32f1df52f1-85/s540x810/00c717903a16a1689e999991022f04124b94bf2d.jpg)
In Wrath of Khan, they'd add a very important side room with dilithium crystals in for Spock to self-sacrifice in. I always found it very amusing this room, where the most important part of the engineering machinery was, was in no way physically connected to the intermix chamber. Nor did it exist in the previous movie.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/b87e68cfc39510790c7eda39ed5983b0/c2706f32f1df52f1-8c/s540x810/5f6623c972f5a37c5b180c5a5986ee6e8fa124bf.jpg)
The Next Generation gave us a pot-bellied stove, with neon segments glowing one-by-one up and down to give the impression of pulses of energy colliding in the middle then being fed to the nacelles. No more radiation suits needed, and the room has a nice carpet. This was also the first time "warp core" was used, a phrase that would retroactively be applied to all the prior ones.
The Enterprise-E and DS9's Defiant would have bigger and smaller warp cores that were variations on the same theme as TNG.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/ce372275c365fc4971be5167b21474fe/c2706f32f1df52f1-87/s540x810/4fe5a32ad8eb4cf9846539612c681940bc473609.jpg)
Voyager brought back the classic Motion Picture big blue lava lamp, just without the horizontal tube this time. It does the nifty swirly thing too. Q Junior makes it do club lighting one time.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/7c4353369385cdae368a0e0f4828cf9e/c2706f32f1df52f1-5f/s540x810/ee1b863b88b3b378592ddd5748a835b736d6db17.jpg)
NX-01 Enterprise is just kind of this big industrial tank with some glowy bits. It's weird that in the classic movies they needed radiation suits to work in engineering, but in the series set 100 years earlier they didn't.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/6692791fb7b92fe9673ce7fc8bf465f4/c2706f32f1df52f1-f7/s540x810/50c32c142102e9c3a3f8693516c921f970b9ea95.jpg)
The 2009 reboot filmed engineering in a thinly disguised Budweiser brewery, which made the area look enourmous and extremely complex, but lost all the high tech clean room vibes prior shows had. What in real life were giant brewing tanks housed the intermix chambers which made up the warp core, which were ejected through a hatch in the roof at the end. This look was extremely controversial with some, but personally I loved it.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/58a43d80e5db4c3a9c323ef70bd642b7/c2706f32f1df52f1-d9/s540x810/a2425cd2d6293f05a5b00327fa3069a21c252e46.jpg)
In Into Darkness the warp core looks like an almighty piece of kit, and that's because they shot on location at the Lawrence Livermore National Ignition Facility. It's a real-life fusion reactor. And then you can climb inside it and it turns out that inside is one very important laser thing, some dilithium crystals you barely see and lots of deadly radiation. At least the self sacrificing happens inside the core itself and not a weird separate side chamber this time. The brewery from the last movie was still there, implying this was all along even if we didn't visit it. But that complicates things because the bits they called the warp core are very different. Perhaps the intermix chambers ejected last movie and core seen here are all part of the same huge warp core system.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/5286174239910125c384c8da90b94874/c2706f32f1df52f1-28/s540x810/45b2f372137341cf6294d2112d2a2d57c21571e5.jpg)
Strange New Worlds reboots the original... sort of. They put a vertical intermix chamber in there and instead of a mesh and forced perspective they've got an AR wall with an enourmous array of high tech pipes. But weirdly, the writers guide says the big AR wall with the updated pipe cathedral is the deflector dish machinery not the warp core. I guess the confusion makes it more authentic TOS.

this might be a big ask, but do you know of any fantasy adventure RPGs that does idk fantasy napolionics, not nesesarily actual napolionics with fantasy elements, but sorta 18th very early 19th century tech + magic and other fantasy stuff, pre/peri-industrial but only just, whfrpg leans (allover the place but) earlier, and a lot of other fantasy stuff with guns leans eather Piracy, or steapunk?
THEME: Fantasy Napoleonics.
Hello friend, there's a lot of different elements going on here, so I"m casting a pretty wide net to show you what's out there. I hope something in here strikes your fancy! I primarily looked for games that felt like they fell within the right time frame, but I also threw in some games that maybe fall just outside your parameters in the hopes they spark something for you.
Castle Falkenstein, by R. Talsorian Games.
When computer game designer Tom Olam found himself sorcerously shanghaied by a rogue Wizard and a Faerie Lord, little did he suspect that he would soon become the pivotal force in the struggle to control an alternate Victorian Universe. But before the deadly game could end, he would first have to battle gigantic Landfortresses, outwit Dragons, romance a beautiful Adventuress, and defeat the Evil legions of a Dark Court determined to destroy him at all costs. Then maybe, just maybe, he could find a way home again …
Originally published in 1994, Castle Falkenstein is set in the Victorian era, but with a magical twist. This is a world of swashbuckling and adventure, complete with elves, dwarves and magic - but also submarines, Sherlock Holmes, and England’s courtly sensibilities.
There’s going to be many different kinds of roleplaying options in this kind of game, including combat, feats of derring-do, and diplomacy! The thing that possibly makes this game a bit far from what you’re looking for is the ruleset. Rather than using dice, this game uses a deck of cards, with different suits being suitable for different tasks, while card value determines skill or difficulty.
When it comes to setting, however, you’re going to have a lot of great things to look at. The supplements for this game include The Lost Notebooks of Leonardo da Vinci, Curious Creatures, Steam Age, and more!
17th Century Minimalist, by Games Omnivorous.
Welcome to the 17th century minimalist.
This is a fast-paced and highly-deadly game with a pinch of black humour that puts characters as wanderers in 17th century Europe. You will play as tricksters, thieves, former soldiers, bankrupt swashbucklers and petty physicians, roaming the Old Continent in search of coin and glory. The system is designed to allow fast character creation, compatibility with other games (mostly in the OSR community) and a reckless style of play.
The closest thing to magic in this game is an illusionist, but that doesn't stop this game from pushing your imagination. Games Omnivorous is pretty well-regarded in the OSR community. 17th Century Minimalist is meant to be simplified, fast-paced, and deadly, with technology like flintlock fire-arms, and goals like searching for treasure and glory. If you want to see a fuller review of this game, I’d recommend looking at Questing Beast’s video that covers the rules and the layout of the game.
A Guide to Casting Phantoms in the Revolution, by World Champ Games Co.
A Guide to Casting Phantoms in the Revolution is a single-session roleplaying game, in which players work together to summon specters to fight the aristocracy during the French Revolution. Featuring the pentacrawl system, Guide is different every time you play. Played on a story map in the shape of a pentagram, create a cast of characters, interpret symbols to create unique moments, and have the phantoms do you bidding—or you’ll do theirs!
This is a game with a number of physical, in-person components required to play. However, if you just have the pdf, the creator also directs you to online resources that you can print for the full experience. You are members of a secret cabal, casting phantoms to help you fight. This is a game that evokes the feeling of a ritual, and might feel magical or personal depending on how you play. It’s a strange mix of thematic storytelling and complex mechanics, so it might not be for everyone, but if you want to feel like a cult enacting revenge through eldritch rituals, I’d recommend checking this out!
Tales from the Aerosphere, by EfanGamez.
Tales from the Aerosphere is an original steampunk TTRPG that is powered by the Neon Nights system, a system that prioritizes seemingly limitless character creation freedom. From medics, to assassins, to mechanics, to a literal barbarian, there are THOUSANDS of character combinations you can play in Tales from the Aerosphere.
This game has its own setting, but all of the set pieces could be dropped, altered or changed if you like. The focus on this game is on character creation: the creator has outlined a number of discrete parts that you can use to not just put a unique character together, but tell you something about the world you’re in. If you’re a Spy, then there’s some kind of international conflict that hasn’t blown open into full-out war yet - perhaps there’s technology being developed that some nations don’t want others to learn about.
The game is extremely steampunk, with airships, CogWare that gives you exceptional abilities, and Tesla technology. It’s going to be on the more fantastical side of things, so if you really want to immerse yourself in another world, why not give it a go?
Shot & Splinters, by Tom Mecredy.
Shot & Splinters is a tabletop roleplaying game of naval adventure, inspired by Horatio Hornblower, Aubrey & Maturin, and Richard Sharpe. Drawing on history but not beholden to it, the game is set against the backdrop of the Napoleonic Wars, thrusting your characters into the heart of the conflict.
If you want seafaring and piracy, this is probably the game for you. It’s set in a napoleonic time frame, but it has strange creatures located upon uncharted waters. The mechanics are OSR, so expect simple stats, tables upon tables of gear, and a hex crawl map of the uncharted seas. If you want more adventure in this world, you can also check out Beneath the Battlements, a city crawl that brings your characters through a city under invasion. Honestly, I think this game might be the closest on the list of what you're looking for in terms of technology level, and possibly theme.
Games I’ve Recommended in the Past
Lady Blackbird, by John Harper.

A Day in the Life of a Maritime Student at Aklan Polytechnic College
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/4e0c9f5c07b984d59fe29a61a81d4b8d/95465cf513c8c9e9-f1/s250x250_c1/aebe0a262578ab083183f0a43710f3b6d0e5687b.jpg)
Being a maritime student isn’t just about going to class—it’s about preparing for a career full of adventure, hard work, and responsibility. As a group of five students at Aklan Polytechnic College, we’re all working towards becoming future seafarers, and no two days are exactly the same. Here’s what a typical day looks like for us.
Mornings: A Slow Start, Preparing for the Day Ahead
We’re not in a huge rush in the mornings. We usually get up around 7:00 AM, which gives us plenty of time to relax and prepare before our classes start at 1:00 PM. It’s the perfect time to review notes, get through any last-minute assignments, or just take a breather and get mentally ready for the day. By noon, we’re dressed, prepared, and on our way to campus.
Classes: Learning the Skills to Sail the Seas
Our first class of the day is English 100, which helps us sharpen our English skills. Clear communication is crucial on a ship, especially when you’re working with an international crew, so we take this class seriously (most of the time!). After English, it’s time for NGEC 9—math. Let’s be honest, math can be tough, but it’s a must-have skill in the maritime industry. Whether we’re calculating fuel or plotting a course, numbers are going to be a huge part of our lives at sea.
After that, it’s NGEC 10, which dives into science—specifically biology, sex, and gender. It’s a different kind of class compared to the others, but understanding these topics is crucial in today’s diverse working environment, especially when we’ll be part of multicultural crews.
Next up is one of our favorite subjects, DE-ETMI, which stands for Emerging Technology in the Maritime Industry. This is where things get exciting—we talk about the future of shipping, automation, and how tech is changing the maritime world. It's crazy to think about what kind of ships we’ll be working on in a few years!
Then, there’s NAV-1—our Navigation class. This is where the real hands-on stuff happens, and we love it. Learning how to navigate using charts and compasses is tricky but rewarding. Plus, this is the heart of what we’ll be doing when we finally get to sea, so it’s both challenging and exciting.
We end the day with NGEC 5, another English course focused on communication. Whether it’s sending reports or just making sure instructions are clear on deck, these skills will be a huge part of our day-to-day work in the future.
After Classes: Straight Home to Study
Once classes are over, we don’t stick around too long. We usually head straight home to hit the books. Studying together helps us reinforce what we’ve learned during the day, and it makes sure we’re all keeping up with the challenges that each subject brings.

MF DOOM, born Daniel Dumile, crafted his supervillain persona from a mix of personal tragedy and a love for comic books. After the tragic death of his brother DJ Subroc and the disbanding of their group KMD, Dumile disappeared from the music scene for several years12. When he reemerged in the late 1990s, he adopted the MF DOOM persona, inspired by the Marvel Comics villain Doctor Doom12.
He began performing at open mic events, wearing a metal mask similar to Doctor Doom’s, which became his signature look1. This mask symbolized his transformation into a supervillain, both in the music industry and against societal norms2. His debut solo album, “Operation: Doomsday,” featured this persona prominently1.
MF DOOM’s intricate wordplay, unique flow, and enigmatic presence made him a legendary figure in underground hip hop1. His supervillain persona allowed him to critique the music industry and society while maintaining a mysterious and compelling image2.

i think that era of gaming from roughly the 70s to the 90s where fuckin Everybody was trying their hands at making their own consoles was one of the most mechanically interesting times in the industry, and honestly while i understand why it's essentially a 3 dog race at this point i kinda wish there were still smaller companies trying their hand at that sorta shit. though, i will say that we do still kinda have that in the handheld PC/emulation device market, which is honestly probably the most interesting thing in tech right now to me. it's honestly really cool that companies like retroid and anbernic have been able to carve out a niche for themselves in a pretty cutthroat world, not even mentioning shit like valve's steam deck. honestly i'd love a steam deck but it has the xbox ABXY button layout so my philistine monkey brain isn't gonna wanna adapt to that. oh well, 5-10 years from now when i'm rich i'm gonna pay valve to make a special sku of the steam deck that has the normal ABXY button layout like on the SNES or the DS

Izzy the Hierophant: The Major Arcana that reminds us to get back to work
As a tarot student, I am fascinated by the interpretations made by fellow tarot enthusiasts in the Our Flag Means Death (OFMD) fandom, on which Major Arcana card best represents Izzy Hands. Popular fanmade decks such as The Cat Bandit Tarot by artist Jennie Planet see him as The Devil—a force that keeps the lovers apart—and Judgement—beating Ed down when he was already at his worst. Valid as they are, these interpretations see Izzy as a negative influence, but I like to offer an alternative take.
I see Izzy’s energy and role in the canon (and eventually, in my personal life as the viewer) as the Hierophant. An energy often found uninspiring, but when used correctly, it can help people make their dreams come true.
In her book The Holistic Tarot (2015, North Atlantic Books), tarot master Benebell Wen uses Tradition, Conventionalism, and Institutionalism as the keywords that explain the Hierophant card.
“The Hierophant is a holy man, an important figure in his society … People rely on him to be a channel between heaven and earth. In a reading, the card typically indicates a desire to follow conventions and norms, a traditionalist—one who holds traditional values,” she writes.
The Hierophant is often seen as the card that calls for querents to be conservative. Instead of thinking outside the box, it expects them to open the manuals and follow the instructions. When discussing making our dreams come true, the Hierophant energy is often seen as an obstacle—curbing creativity and exploration in favour of traditions.
We did see these traits displayed by Izzy in various scenes, such as in Episode 4 when he demanded Ed to come up with a defensive plan after they noticed a Spanish ship coming their way or when he threatened to blackmail Lucius for … you know what he did.
While these scenes might cement Izzy’s role in the story as the Bad Guy, his role is also a reminder of the importance of maintaining a structure—even on a pirate ship. Because this structure, no matter how dull it is, enables us to function and create the impact we want in our personal and professional lives.
The Hierophant energy
The Hierophant card is known for having a restrictive–perhaps even oppressive–energy. In my early days as a tarot student, I tended to roll my eyes whenever it showed up. It was not the kind of nuance I wanted as a young person. But eventually, I learned how the Hierophant energy could positively impact one’s life when used wisely. Instead of preventing progress, it can help with it.
As someone who works in the tech startup community, I regularly meet people driven to succeed. Buzzwords such as “innovation” and “disruption” are being thrown around lightly; everybody wants to be the next big thing that changes the world. Big ideas, even the most unrealistic ones, are cherished and encouraged.
But people are being brought back to Earth rather quickly in this industry. There are even statistics to prove it: Up to 95 per cent of startups fail simply because they cannot find product-market fit, according to various sources. In layman’s terms, they create products and services that nobody needs. This is why startups are commonly advised to implement rigorous market research and product testing to prove that their ideas work; to have the discipline to do more than just talk.
On an individual level, the Hierophant energy is one I tap into to achieve my goals. To be productive, I need to run my days smoothly. This means clearing my housekeeping tasks before leaving home, logging off social media during work hours, and ensuring I eat my vegetables to stay healthy. They are boring AF, but they provide me with a structure to keep the machine well-oiled.
When I look back on my life, all the times I managed to achieve and create something good for myself (and hopefully others) are when I stopped daydreaming and started implementing the Hierophant energy into my daily life. While it is important to explore new ideas, all of them will be pointless without the structure that ensures it is being developed properly.
Now, back to Izzy
One might see Izzy as a traditional pirate who is resistant to change. I mean, what the fuck is even a retirement? It does not exist in this line of work.
This context places Izzy as a counter to Stede Bonnet’s “fresh, groundbreaking” ideas about piracy. It is easy to see Izzy and his beliefs as outdated and needing disruption. But we must remember that piracy is a dangerous business. While pirates generally entered the business with a ready-to-die mindset, a structure that allows the crew to be functional and prepared to handle risks should be appreciated instead of being seen as a threat.
This is especially more relevant in a situation where a leader struggles to function properly. Ed is a smart and gifted captain, but his short attention span and mood swings have made it hard for him to function on some days and for the crew to maintain their trust in him. His wit may have allowed them to survive another day, but will it be sustainable without a system to ensure that? What happens when he is having his moment? At the very least, they would need a plan.
This is a calling for us to look into our own lives and see: In which area do we need a first mate to yell and remind us to focus?

At first glance, the Silicon Valley Bank debacle seems to be a cut-and-dried financial caper. The executives running the 16th-largest bank in the US made the wrong choices in handling what seemed a fortuitous situation—a roster of clients, flush with venture capital funding, handing over billions of dollars of cash for storage in the institution's coffers. But the bank’s leaders misjudged the risks of higher interest rates and inflation. Pair that with a mini tech downturn, and the bank’s spreadsheets began turning colors. When word of its perilous situation got out, panicky depositors pulled their money. After a government takeover, everyone’s money was safe.
But although no depositor lost money, the saga looks like a traumatic event whose consequences will linger for months, or even years. Things happened that we can’t unsee. The SVB saga reminds me of what my wife, a true-crime reporter, says when people ask why she finds murder stories so interesting. A killing, she’d say, reveals the previously private, shrouded actions that define the way people live. In the course of investigating the crime, lives that looked ideal from the outside are exposed as unmade beds of secrets and lies.
Start with the bank. As has been widely reported—only now with a critical eye—Silicon Valley Bank was not only the bank of choice among Silicon Valley companies, but an ingratiating cheerleader for startup culture. The VCs and angels funding new companies would routinely send entrepreneurs to the bank, which often handled both company accounts and the personal finances of founders and executives. SVB would party with tech people—and vintners, another sector they were deep into. Some bankers had wine fridges in their offices. Salud!
Normally, you’d have to hold my family hostage before I became a banker—I picture the buttoned-up prig who hired Mary Poppins. But I might think differently if banking were a world of parties, high-end Cabernets, and elbow-rubbing with universe-denting geniuses who keep millions in the bank and take out mega-mortgages. By all accounts, SVB shared and perhaps amplified the freewheeling vibe of the swashbucklers it served. This is not what you necessarily want from a fiduciary. And as we learned this week, SVB’s CEO reportedly indulged in one of the worst things a founder can do—selling off stock when trouble lies ahead.
When that trouble arrived, we also learned a lot about the investment lords of the Valley who give founders the millions they need to move fast and make things. As word began to leak of SVB’s weaknesses, VCs who style themselves as tech’s smartest people had a choice: help bolster the financial partner holding the industry’s assets or pull funds immediately. The latter course would trigger a panic that would assure disaster for the startup ecosystem—but not you, because you were first in line.
Despite years of talk about how companies in the tech world are united in a beneficial joint mission, some of the biggest players went into self-preservation mode, essentially firing the starting pistol for a bank run. One notable bailout leader was Peter Thiel’s Founders Fund, which got an early sense of SVB’s troubles and advised all its companies to get out ASAP. As word spread, a classic bank run took shape, with other VC firms urging pullouts, until it was impossible to connect online with SVB to move funds. By the time a group of VCs came together to pledge support for SVB, its virtual doors were shut. In the mad rush to the lifeboats, hundreds of companies were stranded on deck. When the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) took over Silicon Valley Bank last Friday, with all activity frozen, those whose holdings in the bank far exceeded the $250,000 limit on insured accounts truly faced the abyss.
I get it—saving one’s own skin is human nature. But in the future, let’s go easy on hyping the camaraderie of tech.
And what did the Valley’s rugged individuals do when oblivion loomed? They begged for a government rescue, of course. It’s hard not to empathize with some of the rank and file tech workers, many of them far from California, who wouldn’t be able to meet their bills. And indeed, there were some acts of generosity, as investors extended loans to their portfolio companies. But the loudest voices urging bailouts didn’t seem to be those most in jeopardy, but super-rich investors and speculators likeself-described angel investor Jason Calacanis, PayPal mafia billionaire David Sacks, and Machiavellian hedge fund magnate Bill Ackman, bombing Twitter with over-the-top pleas to rescue depositors.
Their case was that if depositors didn’t have immediate access to their funds, SVB’s woes might be “contagious,” setting off a wider bank panic. A reasonable concern. But it’s unlikely these pundits would have made the same arguments if the institution in question were some regional bank of similar size in the Midwest. Some people arguing for a federal bailout had previously opined that the government should keep its tentacles away from the innovative geniuses of the Valley.
The spectacle is particularly ironic because a huge part of startup lore is not just accepting risk but embracing it. We hear endlessly of the bravery of entrepreneurs who step into the breach and put millions of dollars in jeopardy, hoping to buck the dismal odds of creating a difference-making company that, by the way, makes its founders ludicrously wealthy. It’s part of the game to lose your investor’s money and a couple of years of your life because you felt that a $400 juice machine would be the next iPhone.
Now those noble risk-takers were demanding retroactive protection—because tech-company money was unavailable due to a totally avoidable risk. Any idiot knows that FDIC covers only $250,000. So why did so many firms store all their assets in uninsured accounts in a single bank? You might give a pass to naive founders who blindly accepted the recommendation of their funders to use Silicon Valley Bank. (Though maybe not to big companies like Roku, which had $487 million on deposit in SVB.) But what’s the excuse of those who did the recommending? Did they notice that SVB executives actively lobbied to avoid stringent regulation? Or that for eight months, SVB failed to replace its retired chief risk officer? Did they understand that an entire startup monoculture patronizing one bank made a huge industry dependent on a single point of failure?
Meanwhile, less verbose investors and VCs quietly worked behind the scenes on convincing the FDIC to guarantee all deposits. One of the Valley’s top seed investors, Ron Conway, reportedly even got Vice President Kamala Harris on the phone to hear his plea for a depositor bailout. The case they made for protecting funds from a maximum $250,000 to, well, infinity, was a more refined version of what the Twitter panics-spreaders were saying: It would stem a collapse in the tech sector and calm people all over the country who were suddenly worried about their own banks’ stability. (It would also mean that from this point forward, holding to the limit is indefensible.) It’s not clear whether the lobbying affected the actual decision. But the attempts were unseemly, an unattractive display of the power of this massive industry.
So what has been uncovered in the week since we learned that Silicon Valley Bank was no more trustworthy than a crypto spam text? A startup culture once considered the gem of the economy has been exposed as careless with its money, clueless in its judgment of character, hypocritical in its ideology, and ruthless in exercising its political clout as a powerful special interest. Meanwhile, the financial world is still jittery, with other banks failing and just about everyone wondering what comes next. And from here on, the concept of a cap on FDIC insurance is at risk. But at least the SVB credit cards are working again. And VCs can take a victory lap as they brag about how they saved the day.

Something I realized is that I wanted more all-ages sci-fi cartoons. There's been a ton of excellent fantasy shows, some even mixing a bit of sci-fi aesthetic and themes in it. But I love to see something that's inspired by like, Astro Boy and Mega Man the way Amphibia, She-Ra or The Owl House were inspired by fantasy games, movies and anime.
Also, I know that there are really good sci-fi shows like Lower Decks or Final Space, and since they're adult shows, they allowed to go much further on the more complex themes sci-fi brings.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/5450174b4e0c3c35b89885f485de865c/eb4a3fdd71e2596d-de/s540x810/c1008a78e72a302813ac6852e5cf49f37a04ea44.jpg)

But the reason I want more all ages cartoons of this genre is a matter of contrast. You look at stuff like Mega Man X and series inpired by it, like Gunvolt or Gravity Circuit and they have a very family friendly aesthetic. Bright high-tech cities, poppy sountracks, sometimes goofy looking enemies and bosses.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/01ca35d11606581c79aaa886f65cd20a/eb4a3fdd71e2596d-0a/s540x810/0f96ab3d107cdb2aafdc34803c4179bbab967e51.jpg)

But once you hit their endgames, it usually involves facing horrible mechanical monstrosities or uncontrollable cosmic horrors that serve to illustrate the sci-fi themes that some of these games explore.

That's the thing I think shows like Amphibia or The Owl House did really well. Establishing fantasy worlds that could even be really silly at times, to later show that darkness that exists in them and how they're a reflection of our own. And I think you could something really good with a sci-fi setting with the limitations that come with an all ages project.
And given all the amazing people who work in the animation industry, I love to see what they would cook with a setting like that, for a respectful contract of course.
--
TL DR: Someone throw a plucky, but flawed teenage protag into a sci-fi world of fighting robots so they can go on crazy adventures, and saving the world while witnessing man-made horrors beyond their comprehension.

The Valuation Slide That Wins Investors
The Valuation Slide That Wins Investors
In the glitzy world of startups, where innovation meets ambition, there’s one slide in a pitch deck that can command the attention of everyone in the room – the valuation slide. Whether you’re an early-stage startup or merely gauging the potential of a business idea, presenting the perfect valuation can set the stage for a successful fundraising effort. But how do you nail this slide, especially if you have no revenue yet? Let’s delve deeper.
Why Valuation Matters
The valuation of a startup isn’t just about numbers or potential revenue. It’s a narrative of the company’s potential, vision, and the value it aims to deliver to stakeholders. For investors, valuation serves as a compass – it guides them to ascertain the risk associated with your startup and the potential return on their investment. While revenue is a straightforward measure for established companies, startups often operate in the realm of vision, potential, and innovation. This makes the valuation slide not only about the worth but also about the story behind that worth.
Crafting the Perfect Valuation Slide
1. Simplicity is Key: Don’t overwhelm your audience with complex calculations or jargon. Present a clear, concise valuation figure and back it up with 3-4 key metrics or reasons that support it.
2. Storytelling: Numbers, on their own, can be lifeless. Weave a compelling story around your valuation. How did you arrive at this figure? What milestones or potential growth does this number represent?
3. Visual Appeal: A picture is worth a thousand words. Use charts, graphs, or infographics to represent data. It aids in comprehension and retention.
4. Be Prepared for Questions: The valuation slide will undoubtedly raise eyebrows and questions. Be ready to defend your valuation with data, research, and comparables from the industry.
The Role of Valuation Tools
Not everyone is a financial wizard, and that’s okay. In today’s tech-driven age, tools like ValuationGenius can give you an edge. These platforms provide an approximate valuation based on a range of factors, eliminating the need for deep financial know-how. While this shouldn’t be the sole basis of your valuation, it can serve as a starting point or a validation tool. When combined with market research and industry benchmarks, tools like these can make your valuation slide more credible and robust.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/7b06348e83c1917cd24a0198e4053d8f/ba8430f7c0fe24ab-01/s540x810/3396ad5d7eca63ba1d355abab2493a7e4f013b9b.webp)
Case Study: Litemeup and the Power of AI in Valuation
Meet Litemeup, a fledgling startup on the brink of transforming the packaging industry with AI-driven design. While they had a groundbreaking concept, they faced a common challenge many early-stage startups grapple with: how to place a valuation on an idea when there’s no product or revenue in play?
Enter ValuationGenius
Without a product, without revenue, and seemingly without the necessary data points that typically inform valuation, Litemeup turned to our tool. ValuationGenius didn’t just spit out a random number. Instead, it provided a range of estimates based on different valuation methods. But what truly stood out was the grounding of these estimates. Each was justified not just by data, but by the wisdom of business development and an inherent understanding of the startup landscape.
So, when Litemeup pitched to investors, they had more than just a vision. They presented a detailed valuation slide that wasn’t built on optimistic projections or vague assumptions but on a solid foundation provided by ValuationGenius. The result? They secured the trust and, subsequently, the investment from stakeholders, proving that even in a world where numbers often dominate, there’s always room for common sense and astute business acumen.
Conclusion
While a startup’s journey is riddled with challenges, presenting the right valuation shouldn’t be one of them. Remember, your valuation is more than just a number. It’s a representation of your startup’s vision, potential, and promise. Craft it with care, back it up with data, and present it with confidence. Value startup with no revenue

Mech Construction Showcase: King Crab from Battletech
Greetings, Dan Here!
Layout for the standard version of the core rulebook continues steadily. While everyone waits, I thought I might post some devlogs to showcase the variety in the mech construction system by recreating a number of popular mechs from across media. I'll post the sample mech sheets with explanations for how/why I built the mechs the way I did.
The construction system was designed to allow for deep customization while remaining quick and easy to build. Players are asked to prioritize how they want their mech to perform while choosing their mech parts, purchase the statistics of their attacks in weapon construction, and finally, choose individual abilities for the mech through utilities/disposable equipment. Much character creation in Savage Worlds, mech construction determines the capabilities on the mech in game mechanics, while the "skin" or nature of those mechanics are left to the discretion of players. That is how two mechs that are mechanically identical could have completely different appearance or weapon descriptions. (Fortunately, thanks to the number of options during construction it is extremely unlikely two mechs would ever be identical.)
To kick off this demonstration I have built the King Crab from the Battletech franchise. This is distinctly a later campaign, or "high level" mech build as befitting my favorite assault mech. For those not familiar, the King Crab is a massive beast of a mech that can sheer through enemies on the battlefield like a reaper with a scythe by using overpowered weaponry. Naturally as an assault mech, it sports a ridiculous amount of armor, reflected here in primary parts with a Sakura Industries Frame giving it 48 Armor Points. Unfortunately, the trade off for this super-heavy, is that it's, well, heavy. The King Crab stomps its way slowly across the battlefield, here with Caballero Corp Boosters, and the Movement Rating of 1. Fortunately, to compensate for this slow speed, the crustacean monarch has many powerful weapons. This is supported by the Blitz Tech CPU giving it two utility systems that can be installed. In this case, we installed two Heat Sinks, adding +2 Heat Rating each on top of the Sakura Industries Radiator with it's 14 HR. This brings the King Crabs total HR to 18.
That Heat Rating score is poured into two weapon systems, the first, is the assault mech's iconic, massive, ballistic autocannons contain within a pair of claw-like shields which can double as melee weapons. These Autocannon Claws as described here, deal a d12 of damage per attack, and was given a Rate of Fire of 2, allowing each claw to fire once on an attack action. The ranges of which are for far and sniping, but melee has also been purchased so that the claw shields can be used to bludgeon opponents as well. While the available ammo for these cannons is low, having being able to melee with them will allow the mech to continue to attack with them, albeit with reduced damage, even after all ammo is expended. To help, the weapon's optimization was put into ammunition to grant one extra ammo just in case. Since this is a high level mech a couple of weapon mods have been installed as well. Irradiated Ammo will allow for additional damage against enemy mechs, while the Targeting AI will grant a bonus to hit with this weapon.
The second weapon to cover the range gap between melee and far, is the Large Laser. While it fires less, and for less damage, it has more ammo to compensate. In addition, the weapons mod, Explosive Ammunition gives it the opportunity to deal damage again if the d4 damage dice ever rolls a 4. Something that is more likely to occur with weapons using lower damage dice levels.
Now the King Crab is also known for sporting Long Range Missiles. While this could technically be achieved by installing more Heat Sinks, or perhaps a Heavy Weapons Mode Converter for utility systems, instead, two disposable Rocket Decks were instead purchased here to serve the same purpose as needed. Lastly, to help with the ammo situation, (and to scare any unsuspecting opponent), the King Crab is equipped with a disposable Ammo Hopper, containing a full refill on ammunition for one weapon. While I did not specify which in the character sheet, I think enemies would be more frightened were it a refill on the autocannons.
While this was a high end built, a similar approximation of these same qualities could be achieved by players at start. Naturally, not every option would be filled in for the player's first mission, but a mech could certainly be built that would still feel similar to the King Crab even with starting equipment. To help demonstrate, the next devlop sample mech I'll build is the fantasy mech, the Escaflowne.
Thank you once more for your interest in BTE, and I'll see you then!

I do think that the Linux desktop is an inevitability. The tech industry, generally, is moving in the direction of accessible open standards. Microsoft themselves are no longer reliant on Windows for revenue and have increasingly put work, funding, and contributions into the development of open-source projects.
Of course Microsoft wont take it lying down. They are going to resist it. But not as fiercely as they would have ten years ago.
That said, I don't think there will ever be a "year of the Linux desktop". It will be a slow, gradual process as tech develops and things like the Steam Deck come out. Eventually one day you will replace your current laptop and the HP convertible you pick up to replace it will have a custom SI version of Ubuntu loaded onto it but your work computer will still have Windows on it because of a specialized software that has yet to be ported.
We don't really live in a world where there is any urgency to transition. Technical improvements in hardware and software are becoming slower and more expensive. It's not like the 2000s where the current thing becomes obsolete a week after you take it home.

Open Ai case study (will Ai replace humans)
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/2cbe02d332b0825fa3bc1e832d3f294a/d0e386bcde601fdd-fd/s540x810/9b72e4909e57ec2a3a100c1cfa50f46f880756e6.jpg)
*Form last few months people are talking about chat gpt but no one talking about "OpenAi" the company which made chat gpt*
After Open ai launch chat gpt, chat gpt crossed the mark of 1 million users in 5 days and 100 million at 2 month its very hard to cross thise numbers for an any other company but Open Ai is not a like any other company it is one of game changer companies
How? You will get soon
One of the big company in the tech industry Microsoft itself invested $1billion in 2019 and On January 23, 2023, Microsoft announced a new multi-year, multi-billion doller investment in open Ai, reported to be $10 billion . The investment is believed to be a part of Microsoft's efforts to integrate OpenAI's ChatGPT into the Bing search engine.
After thise announcement launch of Chat gpt
even threaten the shark of the industry Google, Google is ruling this industry since 2 and half decades
But after the announcement of Microsoft
the monopoly of Google has been threaten by the direct competitor of the company
The CEO of Google sunder pichai even announced "code red" Whenever there is a major issue at Google, Google announcess"Code Red." In the company When you hear that at Google, it means "all hands on deck," thise is time to work hard
But thise is still the tip of the ice burg
Open Ai is making more project like chat gpt or better than that
*Point which I am going to cover in this post*
1.what is open ai?
2.active projects of open ai.
3.how open ai making revenue?
1.What is open ai ?
OpenAI is an American based AI research laboratory .OpenAI conducts AI research with the declared intention of promoting and developing a friendly AI. OpenAI systems run on an Azure-based supercomputing which provided by Microsoft.OpenAI was founded in 2015 by a group of high-profile figures in the tech industry, including Elon Musk,Sam Altman, Greg Brockman, Ilya Sutskever, John Schulman, and Wojciech Zaremba. Ya you heard right Elon Musk the man who says against Ai in his interviews and already invested $100million at open Ai in its initial days
It's like saying smoking is injurious to health while smoking weed
However, Musk resigned from the board in 2018 but remained a donor
Musk in another tweet clarified that he has no control or ownership over OpenAI .
It's not because the "ai is dangerous" thing it becouse conflict between co founder and other reasons
The current CEO of Open ai is sam altman and current CTO of the company is Mira murati ya a one more Indian origin person who is running big tech company
The organization was founded with the goal of developing artificial intelligence technology that is safe and beneficial for humanity, and the founders committed $1 billion in funding to support the organization's research.
First of all you should understand that Open ai is not a company like others
It's doesn't start like others
No one made this company in their basement or something the story of open in not inspiring like others but it's valuable it's an example of
what's happens when the top tech giant's and top tech scientist create something together
2. Active projects of open ai
GPT-4: OpenAI's most recent language model, which is capable of generating human-like language and has been used for a wide range of applications, including chatbots, writing assistance, and even creative writing.
DALL-E: a neural network capable of generating original images from textual descriptions, which has been used to create surreal and whimsical images.
CLIP: a neural network that can understand images and text together, and has been used for tasks such as image recognition, text classification, and zero-shot learning.
Robotics: OpenAI is also working on developing advanced robotics systems that can perform complex tasks in the physical world, such as manipulating objects and navigating environments.
Multi-agent AI: OpenAI is also exploring the field of multi-agent AI, which involves developing intelligent agents that can work together to achieve common goals. This has applications in fields such as game theory, economics, and social science
Developers can use the API of openAi to create apps for customer service, chatbots, and productivity, as well as tools for content creation, document searching, and more, with many providing great utility for businesses
We can Develop and deploy intelligent chatbots that can interact with customers, answer questions, and provide personalized recommendations based on user preferences.
3.how open ai making revenue ?
OpenAI is a research organization that develops artificial intelligence in a variety of fields, such as natural language processing, robotics, and deep learning. The organization is primarily funded by a combination of private investors, including Microsoft and Amazon Web Services, and research partnerships with various organizations.
OpenAI generates revenue through several means,
including: AI products and services: OpenAI offers a range of AI products and services to businesses and organizations, including language models, machine learning tools, and robotic systems.
Research partnerships: OpenAI collaborates with businesses, governments, and academic institutions on research projects and consultancies.
Licensing agreements: OpenAI licenses its technologies and patents to third-party companies and organizations, allowing them to use OpenAI's technology in their own products and services.
Investments: OpenAI has received significant investments from various companies and organizations, which have provided the organization with funds to support its research and development efforts
When the open ai started by Elon Musk and other founder in 2015 the open ai started as non profit organization
but right now open ai is not properly non profit organization
It has it's for-profit subsidiary corporation OpenAI Limited Partnership (OpenAI LP)
and it's non profit organization called OpenAI Incorporated (OpenAI Inc.)
.
If it's continuous like thise open ai will play good role in technology
but the main question is
Will Ai replace humans?
It is unlikely that AI will completely replace humans in the foreseeable future. While AI has made significant advances in recent years, there are still many areas where humans excel and where machines struggle to match human performance.
AI is particularly good at performing repetitive tasks and processing large amounts of data quickly, but it lacks the creativity, empathy, and emotional intelligence that humans possess. Additionally, AI is only as good as the data it is trained on, and biases in the data can lead to biased AI systems.
Furthermore, many jobs require human-to-human interaction, which AI cannot replicate. For example, jobs in healthcare, education, and social work require empathy, understanding, and interpersonal skills, which machines are not capable of.
Overall, it is more likely that AI will augment human abilities rather than replace them entirely. As AI technology continues to develop, we may see more and more tasks being automated, but there will always be a need for human oversight and decision-making.
But there is a chance that Ai will definitely replace you
If you did not upgrade your self
If you still in bottom of your company ai will definitely replace you and I am not just talking about company I am talking about overall in general aspects it might be artist, coder, writer, editor, content creator, labour, farmer's ect.
If you are not upgrade your self you will gona replaced by Ai and machine,s
So upgrade your self using ai and make your place in the upcoming world of Ai and machine
"Ai will never replace humans but the humans who use ai they replace humans who don't use Ai"
There is evil side of Ai also but if we can create Ai than we can also create things to deal with ai
It could be anything it could be regulation's or any terms and conditions
but the point is we can use Ai to do are thing
easy
