Introduction

Today holds an event that gives insight of how technology can improve the society, solving their everyday problems that occurs within and outside the environment. This event is called TechPoint Inspired. Here, I wanted to learn how technology can improve our way of thinking, improve marketing strategies and so on. TechPoint Inspired was held on May, 29th 2018 at Pistis Conference Centre around Jakande, Lekki, Lagos, Nigeria. There were different speakers from companies such as Google, GIG Group, NetCore, FCMB, Maths AfriQue, TechPoint.ng etc.

About the Event

TechPoint Inspired was to convene industry Leaders, visionaries, innovators, CIOs, CTOs, Engineers, Developers, Designers and Tech Enthusiasts to explore the tech trends going on in Today’s world that will shape Nigeria’s future in the years ahead. In the year 2017, they hosted more than 1200+ tech enthusiasts.

Overview

Tech talks, Tech Advertising Tech Products everywhere during the event. It happened during the Nigerian Holiday, Democracy day and it was raining heavily on that day. There were various speakers such as Richard Ikiebe (PhD), Juliet Ehimuan (Google Nigeria), Emeka Okoye, Cynthia Adaeze (Maths AfriQue International), Avadhoot Revankar (CMT, NetCore) etc, they each gave their talks on topics based on technology trends that goes on in the county. The structure of the hall is big enough to occupy enough number of people without the annoyance of finding where to sit from time to time. The front part of the hall contains the stage where the speakers will give the segment/talk, and the back has the stalls where companies like FCMB, Nokia, NetCore, MainOne etc where displaying their products and services to the public. Some folks at the audience asked some rather interesting questions for the speakers and some not so much. Each speakers reveals that they go through various challenges and at times comes up with solutions to those challenges that they come across from time to time. Was going through some stalls, they revealed interesting products and services that caught my attention and also I was listening to a speaker who told the audience that she taught some kids mathematics in the Nigerian Igbo language, the speaker’s name is Mrs. Cynthia Adaeze who gave a segment on “Driving STEM through Indigenous Languages” which means that teaching people subjects in their local languages, I found it very interesting as to how people will learn and understand these subjects in different languages. She mentioned that she conducted an experiment on which set of students will do well such as Set A for subjects in different languages or Set B for subjects in English, it revealed that Set A students are the ones that did well than Set B. A speaker named Chidi Ajaere He is the CEO of GIG group, spoke on how technology can help transportation to achieve their true potential and also gave talk on how local entrepreneurs gains assistance and encouragement from their government. He explained on how he became the CEO from the age of 21. Another Interesting speaker named Avadhoot Revankar (Chief Marketing Technologist, NetCore), gave his segment on “How Artificial Intelligence is changing consumer marketing”. I found it an interesting topic as to how could A.I. change a consumer’s behaviour and also on how it can revolutionise marketing. He gave us a hilarious example of marketing such as the UCL final match between Real Madrid and Liverpool, showing us an image of Sergio Ramos talking Muhammad Salah in which he showed some steps and gave a funny name to the final step. He also mentioned 5 ways AI has revolutionised marketing, which consist of Send Time Optimisation, Churn Prediction, Content Recommendation, Smart Segmentation and AI powered Chatbox. Throughout the event, I got inspiration as to how people will gather together and form a community that wil engage the public with segments on how technology can change the country and it was a nice place to meet new people and hear out their story as why they came for the event. As a friend once told me,

“surround yourself with people that inspires you”

, that what I’ve been doing for a while now. It was fun attending this event/seminar and hope those who attended it felt the same.
