Touch averse whumpees. Whumpees who shy away from every touch, be it affectionate or otherwise. When their friends touch them they fluctuate between going stiff as a board and pinning them with an ice-cold glare. An arm rubbed past their own makes their breath hitch and they sit in the back during team meetings to avoid the close contact of sitting at the table. They hide every injury even if it kills them because the thought of someone touching them hurts more than the thought of dying. They suffocate from too much closeness and every touch reminds them of Whumper, of the pain they inflicted, of everything they were forced into. They distance themself from their friends, first physically, and then emotionally, and nobody knows how to help them.
They don't think they need help. They need everyone to get away from them and stop looking at them with those eyes that almost hurt as much their hands do.

love love love when already injured characters are caught by their teammates as they slump forward. When their words blur together into an incompressible mess. When they press a hand against their injury to no avail. The blood is seeping through, weaving down their wrist. "Let...go." Suddenly going pale, falling in and out of consciousness. "I'm-- I'm fine."
They're not.

Living Weapon Whumpee having a bad day after one of the missions and finding the team they're assigned to sitting around and playing cards. Whumpee getting down on their knees next to one of the team members and hesitantly resting their head against the team member's thigh. Whumpee silently begging to be pet like a dog or at least just allowed to say here because they just haven't positive, non-painful human contact in years and they're just... cold.
Bonus points if they choose the member of the team that hates them the worst because that's the one they feel the biggest need to please.

Weaponized whumpee who people are terrified of.
Feared by their friends, their team; even whumper.
They were dangerous no matter how hard whumpee tried to control it. They were surrounded by their team who argued amongst each other over what to do with them.
Were they safe to be around? What if they lost control? It's only a matter of time, right?
Whumpee kept their eyes low. Their hands balled into fists, but they felt themselves squeezing another hand.
"Hey. Are you good?" Caretaker asked, wrapping an arm around them to block some of the shouting.
"I'm calm." Whumpee whispered back, worried to give anything but a positive response. They didn't want to scare caretaker too...
"Okay, why don't we go somewhere quiet for a bit." Caretaker didn't wait and had already pulled them to their feet. Their team didn't notice the departure; they were deep in argument over if they should hand whumpee to a lab to "de-weaponize them" or kill them outright.
The second the door shut, caretaker wrapped whumpee in their arms. They could feel whumpee shaking; they were just as terrified of the team as they were of them.
"I'm not going to let anything happen to you."

Whumpee who is tied up with a chain by their ankle, and left in a place that's slowly filling up with water. They try to get free, but there isn't much they can do.
The team finally finds them, but the water is already up to their waist. They frantically start looking for a way to free Whumpee, as it's impossible to stop the water flow. A key, bolt cutters, a rock, anything.
Whumpee tries to stay calm, smiling and nodding when someone says it'll be alright. They know. The team is here now, it'll be fine.
Right?
The water keeps rising and Whumpee has faith in the team, but as it reaches their shoulders, and they watch their teammates become more panicky, it becomes harder to stay calm.
The water is almost above their head now, and as they desperately gasp for breath, a teammate is frantically telling Whumpee it'll be okay, just hang. Whumpee just looks at them, managing to get out a few last words before they're under.
"It's okay."
And then they're gone, and they can't breathe, and the panic really begins.
Does the team get them out last minute, managing to break the chain? Or are they too late, and can only watch as Whumpee starts to trash underwater, until they go still? Or maybe they're just too late, breaking the chain just after Whumpee stopped fighting, dragging them to land and trying to revive them?

Caretaker or team member immediately hugging and latching onto Whumpee once they’ve been rescued or returned home.
Whumpee groaning or hissing at the pain from contact. Caretaker apologizing profusely, hurrying to let go. But Whumpee doesn’t budge, just holds on tighter. Tucking their face into Caretaker’s neck, reminded of the reason they endured their torture.

When the team has Whumper in custody and Leader has to be the example of self control and post a guard for them (or worse, be the one to guard them) because they can feel every single member of the team itching to get their hands on them for what they did to Whumpee

Whumper who is part of the team 💞
I left a bit of a tag dump on a largely unrelated post about how much I adore Whumper who is part of the good guy team, and I have decided to make a post about it as the more I think about this concept the less normal I become so here it is
Whumper is part of the team, but everyone knows to be wary of them
Although they are dangerous, scary and even sadistic at times, everyone agrees that having their power and intelligence on our side is much better than to have them be on the enemy team instead
Because of what they bring to the team — and also because everyone is a little scared of them — Whumper's faults are a little easier tolerated than other teammates', and a young Whumpee who always gets in trouble and hasn't really had the time to get to know Whumper might find this blatant favouritism a little frustrating
Whumper also doesn't have to train all the time, or be present for strategy briefings, or to even really go out on missions with the team. They are always on their own, left to do their own thing, go on special, dangerous missions and the rest of the plan the team must follow tends to center around Whumper
A rookie Whumpee may be annoyed that Whumper gets to do all that, they may become curious of what Whumper really does, or even start idolising Whumper, because they are clearly so strong and smart and trusted, they must be so cool. They probably should not do any of that.
Nobody bothers Whumper when they're in a bad mood. Nobody enters Whumper's room under any circumstances, especially not alone. Nobody shall mention "the previous Whumpee" around Whumper. If Whumper is in a strange, unsettling mood, and seems a bit too friendly and interested in you specifically, you excuse yourself and make a swift escape from the situation. Call Leader if Whumper won't leave you alone. These, and many more rules are set in stone at HQ, and Whumpee is more than a little terrified of Whumper every time they learn of another weird unspoken rule that everyone knows to follow
Whumper loves rookies, and tends to play up their mysterious, dangerous persona in front of them for fun. A disgruntled Medic bumbles something about not letting Whumper get to them, but Whumpee has been sufficiently got to already, staring at Whumper with wide eyes
For whatever reason, Whumper and Whumpee are on a solo mission together. Whumpee is intimidated by Whumper, a little scared that they will follow up on a threat or insinuation they had made before about hurting them, but what actually happens is that Whumpee gets to witness first-hand the brutal efficiency and cruelty with which Whumper works, watching as they tear through the problem effortlessly, mowing through an operation that would have taken the rest of the team a whole week and careful planning to succeed at. Whumper tells them this was just a small favour, nothing major. They finally start understanding Whumper, and why they are such an important part of the team
Whumper leaves for a while, and Whumpee's first time hearing about them is through a desperate team begging them to come back when they face an unkillable, unspeakably powerful threat that they tried and failed to stop. Whumper shows up last minute, and fixes the issue in the snap of a finger with a smile on their face, mentioning how Leader could've just told them how much they missed them and they would've come back
The absolute, horrid carnage Whumper leaves after 'fixing' the team's issue leaves the whole team speechless, suddenly reminded in a massive, unbelievable show of strength and cruelty of just how powerful Whumper truly is. Whumpee has a lot of questions about Whumper for the team after that, namely: who the hell was that?; what the hell did they just do?; and oh my god, what the fuck?
After days of missing, Whumpee is found in Whumper's room tied to a chair, evidently kept there and tortured. Whumpee is so glad to have been found, yelling about how Whumper has always been so weird and unsettling, and how they bullied them and abused them all the time, and how they can't wait for them to be gone, but Medic has to tell them with an aching heart as they fix up their countless injuries that they always knew Whumper hurt them, and that they can't do much about it. Not even Leader can get them to behave without fucking up the system they have in place, and they simply can't afford to do that to the entire rest of the team. The best Whumpee can do is avoid them, or leave the team altogether — but Whumper might go catch them again if they try.
Whenever the team fails to interrogate someone, Whumper is sent in. They are always successful. Whumpee is sent down to ask if Whumper found out what they need to know, and is horrified by the state of the prisoner. Even worse, once they hear everything they need to know, Whumper ushers them out, ready to continue the torture. Whumpee innocently asks them what for if they already know everything they need to, and Whumper pauses to grin at them and ask if they want to join and see.
For a more found family type team: Whumper joins the dinner table for the first time. Everyone falls quiet. Or alternatively: Whumper stops having dinner with them. Whumpee grows concerned and brings a plateful up to Whumper's room. They do not appreciate it as much a Whumpee thought they would. This can go in so many different directions from soft fluff to just horrible awful times
Whumper reminds Leader of how voluntary their subordinacy is by roughing them or a teammate up a bit and showing them how helpless they would be if they decided to get on Whumper's bad side
Whumper is Leader.
Whumper is Medic
Whumper is indesposable
A hostage taken from the enemy confesses to how badly Whumper hurt their own teammates all the time, and shows some very nasty scars Whumper left on them too. The team is horrified
Whumper has something to hide, so they don't let their ex teammate spill anything, killing them before they can, or shutting them up any time they try
Whumper has nothing to hide, and listens with a grin as all their past cruelty is brought forth again. As if the team that they work for wouldn't already be more than aware of all that and more. Well if they weren't, now they can add all that to the list filled with their more recent cruelties
Whumper "accidentally" hurting Whumpee all the time. Whumpee is intimidated into not saying anything about what's really going on
Whumper slowly softening up to their new wholesome team. They can eventually grow fond enough to not be a colossal asshole to them all the time. Or they could go more in the "if anyone but me dares to hurt these idiots, there will be hell to pay" direction
Whumper is a cat. They claw at kind hands for no reason, they get the zoomies and cause chaos, they need to be fed on time or they become pissy, if they fall asleep on top of someone that someone will simply have to stay deathly still and wait for them to wake up because Whumper hates being woken up and once or twice a month they bring home half alive prey they caught to show off and play with. They also purr. If i have anything to say about it
They aren't close at all with the rest of the team yet. Whumper being here is a new thing. Everyone is on edge. It is unpleasant to share a room with this fucking maniac. Their eyes find teammates who they have history with, lingering on scars, or even fresh wounds hidden under clothes that they know fully well will never fade. Their smile is knowing and spiteful
"Does it hurt still? The cut I gave you? I remember how you screamed; it must ache still. How lucky that we are on the same team now, wouldn't you agree?"
No one knows Whumper at all. They are like a ghost. They show up, they do their job, they disappear. One day, Whumper stumbles into Medic's, and wordlessly climbs onto the table. Medic fixes them up with as few words as possible, and after a long, uncomfortable stare from Whumper, agrees to never say a single word about this to anyone
Whumper is a fighter. They live for the battlefield, having a little too much fun mowing down hordes of people. This is Whumpee's first time seeing them in action, and they can't help looking away right before Whumper crushes a defenseless, already incapacitated enemy's skull under their boot
Whumper knows the team way way way too well. They did stalk them for years before they joined. They know just how to get under their skin, and it's both infuriating and terrifying
Anyone who tries to break in at the dead of night answers to Whumper. The rest of the team may not even find out about the spy who tried to infiltrate them for a couple weeks, before Whumper decides to offhandedly mention that they have a hostage in their room and they are ready to talk
Here's the unhinged tags that inspired this if anyone wants to see

Whumpee is back, and it's time to celebrate. There's cake, and music, the whole nine yards.
Members of the team keep talking to them, telling them how glad they are that it's "over."
Over.
Whumpee has to escape the party and go hyperventilate in the bathroom.
Things are so far from "over."

Secretly powerful teammates.
Think someone going to strike at a character and them not having the reflexes quick enough to stop it. Then, out of seemingly nowhere, their teammate known to be weak (maybe the only one who stays out of the action) not only protects them, but lunges at the attacker with a cold look on their face the team has never seen before. Them winning, to the surprise of the team, but getting slightly hurt in the midst of the battle. Afterwards, the character being highly in shock over the unfamiliar actions of the teammate and worrying over their graze as they convince themself that they must be going crazy. There’s no way their innocent, feeble teammate could be capable of something like that.
The teammate lightly commenting that they had hardly noticed the injury and instead turning their attention to making sure the character is safe. Them wanting to care for the stuttering, confused character, suddenly seeming much bigger and more mature than ever before, but being stopped in their tracks by the approaching team. The team, who had been taken aback by the sudden change in the teammate, confronting them about their actions and true strength, while simultaneously trying to discreetly lead them to an area to get treated. The teammate eventually realizing this and saying that the injury was hardly a scratch the couldn’t even notice and that they’d had far worse. The team becoming horrified at the notion that their “weakest” member could ever have handled worse. Shocked because they thought of the teammate as someone they always needed to protect, someone they couldn’t imagine getting even slightly hurt.
Then the teammate having to convince the team that they’re really fine, and going back to normal afterwards. But the team never really recovering from seeing the other side to the teammate and thinking of them differently from before.

what are ur fav tropes for stoic whumpees? love da blog
stoic whumpee tropes that are a 100/10:
"I'm fine" and then immediately collapsing in front of their loved ones in a bleeding pile, revealing a hidden injury that has festered for far too long
silent, muffled crying with shaking shoulders and a bloody hand clamped over their mouth because they view crying as weak and beneath them and they're stronger than this, they're stronger, they can take it--
the moment they close their eyes in defeat and it's all over and they fucking know it, and when they open their eyes again all that remains is a glassy-dead stare
adamantly refusing medical treatment even when they need it. Shoving away everyone who comes close to them, a choked sound in their throat, fighting back with everything that's left in them.
when they kneel at Whumper's feet, eyes on the ground, white-lipped and tense. The only betrayal of emotion is their clenched fists and tight breathing. In every other way, they're compliant.
refusing to talk about what they endured at Whumper's hands after they're rescued, but the scars tell the story for them. They don't have to say a word, but their team's pitying gaze follows them wherever they go
normally unaffectionate and distant but exhausted and defeated they rest their head on Caretaker's shoulder or Whumper's lap, just finally admitting--nonverbally-- that they can't take it
reversely, more willing to be tortured than to ask for help-- If I'm breathing, I'm fine
stitching their own wounds back up with an unsteady hand, painful stitch after painful stitch. Deep breath and pull. Working in a dimly lit apartment with bleeding clothes on the floor around them and the bed unmade
sacrificing themself for their team. "Take me! Do what you want to me. Not them." And their team watching as the torture takes its slow toll and Whumpee-- the one they look up-- falls apart.

when they're hurt, doubled over and braced on the nearest surface, bleeding and in pain, worried team around them, and all they do is laugh. a wince as the pain ripples through them, smiling and breathing through it, gritting their teeth and putting on that brave face regardless of the agony in their body.

Recent thoughts have been plaguing me.
Whumpee talks a lot, sings a lot, shouts when they’re in pain and their laugh is really really loud. Just a loud Whumpee. And their whole life obviously they’ve been told to shut up or lower their voice. But Caretaker never told them that, they said they loved all of Whumpee’s sounds. They always knew who was laughing in a crowded room, always knew where to find them if they stubbed their toe
That is, until whumpee messes up some mission by being too loud. Maybe i's a small mission, maybe its a big one. Doesn't matter, either way, whumpee fucked it up. the whole team blows up at whumpee about it, and they're sorry, but they don't feel TOO too bad. That is until they're giggling at their phone later that day and Caretaker suddenly screams
Oh my GOD can you not SHUT UP!?
Later (blah blah blah plot) Whumpee is taken by Whumper, their enemy. Whumper promises Whumpee they'll return them a 'useful teammate.' Whumpee just has to admit their biggest flaw to Whumper and then they’ll be good!
The team hasn’t been looking for Whumpee for too long before they show up, looking perfectly fine (if a little tired). Caretaker keeps asking if they’re okay, what happened, do they need anything, but all Whumpee does is nod, shake their head, or give a thumbs-up.
Caretaker and the team begin to doubt if Whumpee was even taken by Whumper. They think they just ran off on their own after everyone yelled at them and are choosing not to speak to ‘punish them’ for what they said. They start to speak about how nice and quiet it is around the base with Whumpee no longer screaming and shouting all the time.
That is, until Caretaker sees Whumpee stub their toe again. They flinch, expecting Whumpee’s shrill scream, but there’s just silence. Whumpee just up and down and holds their foot, pouting, but no noise.
Caretaker confronts them but again all they get is body language, no speech. Annoyed, they drag Whumpee to medical, expecting the team’s psychologist to knock some sense into them, only for medical to discover a large scar on Whumpee’s neck they’d been hiding with makeup and clothing.
Whumpee had asked Whumper to ‘debark’ them, had asked to have their voice removed. And now Caretaker and the rest of the team would live in absence of their singing, giggling, and jokes.
But the team doesn’t realize they asked, they think Whumper did it by themself. They don’t know Whumpee asked for it, believing it the only way to become useful to the team.

The caretaker covers the whumpee’s mouth while they hide. They know the whumpee is in pain and exhausted, but they’re both as good as dead if they’re caught.
The whumpee, however, is near delirious and thinks it’s the whumper covering their mouth.

Whumpee who breaks themselves out of wherever they're captured, because they know they're alone and nobody will come for them.
Except when they're out, they find out that the Team was planning to come for them, and if they had stayed a day longer, they would've been rescued.
The realization that they're part of something now, where people care about them and are willing to risk themselves to get them back makes Whumpee cry.
