Rewatching S1 of The Bear and realizing that in S4, when Carmy learns Marcus asked out Sydney or finds out about the whole...Luca situation, I need a record scratch moment. I need the actual sound in addition to the sight of Carmy's whole body coming to a screeching halt. I need whatever emo rock song is playing to abruptly end mid-verse. Hell, I wouldn't mind a Kill Bill siren while we're at it.

And this convo I just had in the comments this great post with @invisiblerambler brought Luca to my mind when I came up with the idea that we all are kinda rooting for Carmy to make progress in therapy, which I'm 100% on board with too, but IRL sometimes that's just not enough, some times we just need a friend that can understand us and we don't have undealt with feelings for or a secret attraction for. Especially someone like Carmy that didn't have that growing up.

The opposite may also be true IRL. Sometimes our close circle of friends is just not enough and we need to complement it with a good therapist or team of therapists, in some cases.

Life is not one or the other, life is messier. And so are these characters and this show. Right?

I always thought that when Carmy and Richie could really mend their relationship, which I'm sure will happen at some point, that person was gonna be Cousin. Now, after watching this S3 that keeps growing more and more on me as I rewatch its pivotal scenes, I'm having my doubts about that, simply because he has his own personal demons to deal with and, just like Carmy, he's not great at it. They are more alike than they think.

Whereas, as I mentioned here, Luca represents Carmy's healed version. That's why Storer brought him back at this point of Carmy's story. He is needed.

IMO: The bringer of light role, that he will play in Syd's story, as I elaborated in → here in the bonus track, will actually in a case of classic Storer mirroring, be the same role he will play in Carmy's story at this point of his redemption arc. I'm sure.

And Luca will be doing that for both at the same time, by being THE MEDIATOR between the two because he already knows Carmy and will get to know Syd when the Sydluca storyline (or as I call it, the PRESYDCARMYLUCA plot device) develops next season, for just a few months.

I can't wait for him to mediate between these two and ironically bring them closer together. I really can't.

Storer, I'm with you on this one. Don't even think about letting me down bc you're already on very thin ice with me.

I was camp sydlucaPREsydcarmy mostly bc jelly carmy is an exotic animal I think might looooove but they handled that potential storyline for Syd soooo carelessly and sloppily that I’m beginning to feel more inclined toward the NO MORE MULTICHANNEL GASLIGHTING way of thinking. I get it! Because it’s getting old and my patience is at 0.

Also, if a romantic storyline should be introduced in the plot for one of the main characters, it needs to be introduced AT THE BEGINNING of the season, like the C person was. It shouldn’t be treated like a fucking cliffhanger bc it’s not, it’s just an anti-shipping move to deviate the attention from the main couple and open the game, which requires a whole season to be fully played out and not feel forced. Because otherwise what you get is a buildup that will only serve one purpose: loss of interest when it finally happens because it won’t meet the expectations or it will be disappointing for one shipper team or the other, invariably, which is something no writer or show runner should do on purpose.

So basically Storer’s timing with Sydluca was sloppy. If he wanted to play that card, there were wayyy better ways to do it. Now, it seems hinged, or like more gaslighting on a show already full of it. But mid season woulda worked, maybe, just to equal the score and let Syd have her failed relationship with her own C person too. Now we just have a healed version of Carmy who Carmy introduced Syd to, while he was at the lowest point of his life, and in front of his abuser and a Syd who is not into Luca but out of Carmy, so Luca is kinda like the premature rebound guy. What a love story! #Not

Fuck you, Storer!

I don't want to see Luca anywhere near Sydney in season 4.

If sydcarmy is happening, I don't want no romantic or platonic (pft) storyline with Luca for Syd.

For one, it makes no sense to spend time on a relationship that's going to end. And highkey, I especially wouldn't like if a romance happened only for there to be parallels to Carmen, or Luca is presented as a good viable option for Syd, only for her to get with Carmen anyway.

At this point, I just want the show to give sydcarmy or get the hell away lol. I'm over the multi-channel gaslighting of it not being there in the show and the parallels that many hope are actually going to mean something by the time the show ends.

Syd, Marcus, Ebra, Tina, Gary (and Manny and Angel that won't be getting any screen time atp) haven't got the time I think they deserve (Syd in particular, for the second main character where tf was she in S3? S2 I understand, but for real wtf was that?). That time would be better spent on them rather than a short-lived, reprieve-centred fling for Syd imo.

I wrote a post a while ago regarding sydcarmy after S3 and I still more or less agree with what I said, but in terms of plot, if Sydney is going to struggle along with Carmen when she chooses to stay at the bear, that's perfectly fine. But I don't want anymore ambiguity, "up to interpretation" bs when it comes to them. At least give me the opportunity to wave a satisfied fist in the air with blatant, confirmed romance between them at least, so I can say "the sydcarmy shippers told yall so", even if I don't particularly want it the same way.

I admit I definitely jumped ship to SydLuca. I don’t even care if Carmy and Claire are end game anymore. I only care about Sydney’s happiness here. Team Syd For the Win!
