Son Doong Cave, the world’s largest cave in Vietnam
The image of Son Doong Cave is famous on google culture, National Geographic, or travel magazines such as Tripadvisor, Lonely Planet with a large cave system along with magnificent stalactites. The images of Son Doong cave have been featured on many covers as well as major television channels such as BBC or CNN. In the article about Son Doong Cave, we will list detailed information such as the discoverer of Son Doong Cave, details about the cave system as well as tours of Son Doong Cave. https://phongnhacave.org/tours/discovery-cha-loi-cave-system-2-days-1-night/
Where is Son Doong Cave?
Son Doong Cave was formed about 2-5 million years, when river water flowed through limestone that had been buried along a fault line. The current erodes and creates a huge tunnel in the ground under the mountain range. In places of soft rock, the ceiling collapses to form sinkholes, which for a long time form huge cave arches. The cave has a width of 150 meters, is more than 200 meters high, and has a length of nearly 9km. The estimated capacity of Son Doong Cave is 38.5 million cubic meters (equivalent to 15,000 Olympic swimming pools). The cave has a width of 150 meters, more than 200 meters high, a length of nearly 9km. The estimated capacity of Son Doong Cave is 38.5 million cubic meters (equivalent to 15,000 Olympic swimming pools).
How was Son Doong cave found? The discoverer of Son Doong Cave.
In 2007, the British Royal Expedition searched for a new cave in Phong Nha Caves – Ke Bang. Ho Khanh also took them to find Son Doong cave for 2 days but did not find the cave either. During that trip, Howard Limbert himself, observing the natural phenomena of the surrounding area, confirmed to Khanh that there must be a large cave recently… However, time did not allow it, so the cave expedition had to return to England. But before returning to England, Howard Limbert asked Ho Khanh to try to find the cave. After that, Ho Khanh continued to go to the forest and found Son Doong cave in 2008. In early 2009, when the Royal Cave Society expedition returned to Vietnam, Ho Khanh led Howard Limbert’s team and the cave was named Son Doong Cave.
Son Doong Cave to the world.
After carefully surveying the cave, a group of cave experts from Hoang Gia Anh and Quang Binh province introduced Son Doong cave to the world. The subsequent technical announcements about the largest cave in the world and the size and unique ecosystem of Son Doong cave have amazed the whole world. Son Doong Cave has been put into operation for adventure tourism since 2013, Son Doong caves adventure tourism activities have always proved attractive to the domestic and international tourism community with its majestic beauty, magnificence, and many other great values.
Naming the Cave
Originally the name Son Doong Cave was named after the discoverer of Son Doong Cave, Ho Khanh. After that, experts asked for permission to change the name to Son Doong Cave because according to experts Son Doong Cave is located in the Lower Doong region, in the land of Doong. Near this area, there is an ethnic village called Ban Doong, and Son means mountain. Son Doong Cave was discovered and named as such so far.
Highlights of Hang Son Doong
Son Doong Cave with different experiences than few caves have. Many of the highlights listed below show the appeal of this cave.
Wall of Vietnam.
To reach the Vietnamese wall, it is necessary to overcome a rather muddy cave. The entire process of climbing this 90m high Wall of Vietnam requires the use of protective equipment and is ensured by Oxalis’ professional safety team. When you reach the top of the Vietnamese wall, you will see the exit of the cave.
Cave campsites
When conquering Son Doong cave, you will have 3 nights to sleep in the cave, the first 1 night to sleep in Hang En, and the other 2 nights to sleep in Son Doong cave.

Oscar Trailer: (Team Oxalis)
The sun beams down with golden light atop an emerald canopy, blanketing the woods with its warm embrace while at its end stands a stone structure. Sitting high atop an ancient grass cracked building stands two middle aged people. A man with messy silver locks, and a woman with wavy blonde hair in a tight-nit bun. These two people are the headmaster, and vice headmistress of Beacon academy respectively. Professor Ozpin, and Glynda Goodwitch now shuffle on the stone, gazing at a screen restless, pacing lightly as they follow the progress of one short stature boy.
"Are you sure about this Ozpin? Do you truly think Oscar is ready for this?" Though her voice cane out even, her hands gripped her riding crop tightly. Feeling its handle dig deep within her palm. Ozpin's brows furrowed before he went for a sip of his cocoa. Taking in a quick drink, the chocolate on his tongue turned bitter quick as he gazed upon his partner and back to the screen.
"Believe me, I've asked myself that same question many times." He paused, as if tasting for the right way to say this. "But whether we like it or not, she won't give us that time."
"He's only 13 Ozpin! He shouldn't have to fight like this so young!" Glynda said exasperated.
"I wish he didn't, but he has to learn to protect himself, if not now then when?" Sighing, Ozpin began again. "Have faith in him please, he's stronger than we give him credit for, i know he will succeed, he's our son after all."
"Huff, that's what makes me even more worried, but I hope you're right" she finished
Speaking of which, a boy with tanned skin, and a mop of messy black hair struts through the winding vines and roots about him. His hazel eyes frantically looking in each direction while his orange gloves hands squeezes the floral etched hilt in his hands. Taking in a deep breath, the scent of pine and dew fills his lungs while at the sound pf a crow's call, a blood curdling growl echoes all around. Snapping his eyes open, Oscar ground to a halt and watches sickening red eyes glaring back at him. Shining through the shadows like a ruby in the sun. Smirking as the drumming feet drew closer to him, Oscar unfurled The long memory's shaft and stood ready.
Thump, thump, thump pounds their feet, as a mangled bear of bones and inky flesh splinters the wood. Charging dead straight as the ursa surround this freckled boy. Approaching ever closer with their gnarled fangs and razor sharp claws, they get as close as a hair onto the boy, but that's all. As with one motion, using the cane as a spring, the green clothed boy leapt from the sleuth of ursa and towards a tree branch. Feet touching the supple wood, the cane wielder leaps once more, aiming at one of the ursa, cracking the cane's black shaft across an ursa's jaw, careening them into a tree thanks to its previous motion.
Not a moment to lose, the other members charge at his flanks, dropping to low run, Oscar feels his adrenaline spike as he rushes towards the one on his left, it's massive paws reflected in his glasses as he rushed forward. Knowing a test of strength wouldn't work, he instead used the beast's size against itself. Sliding under its last attack, with dirt and grass flung into the air, Oscar gives a bright yell before striking the beast's hind leg.
Tripping it forward only to be caught in the maw of its fellow grim. Turning to a black dust as the ursa from earlier made its second warpath. Not learning from its previous encounter, the boy shrugged and ran forward, rushing up the trunk of a nearby tree before kipping back as again this Ursa rushed forward. Flipping into the air, Oscar yelled and thrusted his cane into the back of the ursa's neck. Killing it dead with one last strike.
Falling into a roll, the boy rested on his knee, using the cane for support as he motioned the Grimm to follow him. Tearing and vaulting through the trees, Oscar led the Grimm into a maze of branches only to be stopped by a large bush of thorns. As soon the two pack members left stalked him more and more. Slowly approaching the boy as they snarled and snapped with glee. Thinking they finally had the pipsqueak cornered. Giving a sheepish grin, Oscar slowly walked around the small clearing, approaching the thorny mound more and more as the from got closer and closer. Their sludge like forms as they ran for all their worth. Thinking they finally had this annoying human in their grasps, but as they both dove, Oscar jumped between their gap, spinning like a top in between the two Ursa, cracking the cane up into an uppercut, and a strike on top of both Grimm's heads respectively, sending them tumbling into the thorny brambles. Until they finally dissipated.
Slumping in relief, Oscar sat on the ground breathlessly looking up as his now arriving parents with a beaming smile.
Huff "so, how did I do?" He asked brightly

Might mess around and humanize my persona (may or may not use depending but I'd like to show off anyway)
Eyes that can glow!
The lizard looking guy is still here, we're a team :)
To differentiate, the humanized one is Ox or Oxalis, and the lizard is now the Basilisk

The Moths of Ravensthorpe
Based on plants appearing in the settlement and moths that feed on them, I've started sketching moths of Ravensthorpe and their host plants - from Randvi's point of view. I think Randvi sees moths visit her light when she's working late, and starts sketching, describing, and cataloguing them. And maybe keeping caterpillars to see what moth they turn into, bc who wouldn’t? Being an amateur botanist, Eivor can help identify host plants. Petra can keep an eye out for new caterpillars while out hunting too (yknow, thruple team effort.)
Anyway, I started with the giant marker oak and the many moths that are associated with oak trees. I've seen some of the moths Ive been drawing like the oak beauty, but I'd never seen an oak hook tip IRL. Until... The day after I drew one... Look what showed up at my moth trap! A real oak hook tip 🌳🦋🌳
Gonna take this as a good sign, heh. A lot of green moths feed on oak (light emerald like the one below, oak tortrix, merveille du jour, scarce silver lines, and green silver lines) so I’m sketching those next!
You may reasonably wonder... How TF does Randvi know so much about insect life cycles? Would she have named species the same way?? Where would she even keep caterpillars???
To which my response is... How TF did 20th century sweetcorn get to 9th century Ireland? Why does Ravensthorpe already contain Oxalis plants that didn’t arrive in England for another thousand years?? Where did all those mule deer skulls come from when mule deer weren’t and aren’t found in the UK???...
Mothing-Randvi wouldn’t be the worst natural sciences anomaly here lol :)

What are the most suitable blooming house plants experts choose?
Top 10 indoor flower plants
African violet
African violets are among the easiest to grow flowering houseplants. They bloom year-round with little effort. Choose from hundreds of varieties and forms, some with variegated foliage or ruffled or white-edged blooms. African violet likes warm conditions and filtered sunlight. Avoid getting water on the fuzzy leaves; cold water causes unsightly brown spots. African violet is one of the most preferred plant by interior plant design experts.
Peace Lily
The peace lily is an easy-care plant that tolerates low light and low humidity. Flowers consist of a showy spoon-shaped white spathe and spike of creamy white flowers. Bloom is heaviest in summer, but many varieties bloom throughout the year. The glossy, lance-shaped leaves are attractive even when the plant has no blooms.
Hibiscus
Tropical hibiscus is the ultimate plant for creating a touch of the tropics. It forms huge blooms, up to 8 inches in diameter, on a shrubby upright plant that you can train to grow as a tree. Individual blossoms last only a day or two, but plants bloom freely from late spring through fall and occasionally through winter. Keep the soil uniformly moist and give the plant as much indoor light as possible to keep it blooming.
Oxalis
Oxalis bears triangular, clover-like purple leaves and an almost constant show of pink or white blooms. Look for varieties that have plain green foliage with or without silvery accents. Oxalis grows from small bulbils in the soil; you can divide these any time the plant becomes crowded in its pot.
Anthurium
Anthuriums bloom in festive shades of pink, red, lavender, or white, and last for two months or more. They also make a long-lasting cut flower if you can bear to cut them. Anthurium needs a medium to bright light to bloom well but can be grown as a foliage plant with less light.
Jasmine
There are many types of jasmine. Many-flowered jasmine, polyanthus, and Arabian jasmine are two of the easiest to grow; just give them plenty of light and moisture. They'll all bear fragrant pink to white blooms on vining plants.
Flowering Maple
Crepe-paper-like blooms in shades of red, pink, orange, or yellow dangle among leaves like festive lanterns. Many varieties have splotched or variegated foliage for extra interest. Grow the plant upright as a tree, prune it back to keep it shrubby, or even grow it in a hanging basket. Its common name comes from the leaves, which resemble those of a maple tree.
Kaffir Lily
Kaffir lily is also commonly called clivia. As a houseplant, it usually blooms in winter with clusters of up to 20 reddish-orange or yellow tubular flowers. Clivia blooms only when it has been exposed to cool, dry conditions, so give it lower temperatures in winter and keep it on the dry side. With its deep green strap-like leaves aligned in a single plane, the plant is attractive even when not in bloom.
Streptocarpus
Also called Cape primrose, Streptocarpus blooms almost continuously if given the right conditions. Most of the hundreds of hybrid varieties available bear trusses of pink, white, purple, or red flowers, often with contrasting white or yellow throats. Except for providing cooler winter temperatures, treat it as you would its cousin, African violet.
Calamondin Orange
This hybrid between a mandarin orange and kumquat bears fragrant white blossoms in late winter or spring. The wonderfully fragrant flowers develop into showy 1-inch-diameter orange fruits on a shrubby plant with glossy green foliage. Fruits can remain on the plant for many weeks.

#sponsored - another post teaming up with OSRAM Opto Semiconductors (@osramglobal): I asked the question, what would happen if I exposed some oxalis stems to a 2 hour burst of light after they have closed for the night? I anticipated that those who were not interrupted would "wake up" sooner than those who were. Also notice how the stems opened after a specific time of darkness in anticipation of the morning even though it was still completely dark. Plants "know" how long they've been in darkness. ~ ~ #startsomethingbright #oxalis #timelapse

24 through 30 June 2019
The garden is looking great. We did some regenerative pruning on some Deutzia and Philadelphus this week, with the hope that all will look amazing next year or the following. The hedges and topiary in the garden was all trimmed back into order this week as well. It is all looking very clean and sharp; a nice contrast to the softer planting around the garden. Here is the meadow I planted this year...
This was Isaac’s last week with us, and for his leaving gift to me, he and another volunteer finished turning the compost so I didn’t have to do it Friday afternoon. Thank you Isaac. Nuria stopped by one last time before returning to Spain. Our next intern, Alexandre from France, will be joining the team next week for two months.
Plant ident on weeds this week:
Asteraceae Conyza sumatrensis
Asteraceae Sonchus oleraceus
Balsaminaceae Impatiens parviflora
Convolvulaceae Calystegia silvatica
Euphorbiaceae Euphorbia peplus

Projects - UBS x IS
Earlier this month, we had the pleasure of co-hosting an experiential art event with our friends at UBS Gramercy Wealth Management Group. The evening began with a cocktail hour at Oxalis garden bar, a Brooklyn neighborhood bistro.
It was a fun way to gather a group of people over a shared interest in art. From left to right: Dee Kerrison, Inez Suen, Andrew Cornell Robinson, Michael A. Guild, Gordon Cheung, Gavin Cheung, Cristina F. Debrito.
Thanks Dee Kerrison who flew all the way from Los Angeles and Andrew Robinson who drove all the way from his studio in Bushwick. ;P
After our cocktails, we headed across to street to the Brooklyn Museum for a private tour of “Frida Kahlo: Appearances Can Be Deceiving” with Catherine Morris, the Brooklyn Museum’s Senior Curator.
Frida Kahlo dressed to make a statement. She used fashion to hide her physical insecurities about her body and project beauty, strength and identify. She took many fashion cues from the culture of Tehuantepec, a matriarchal city in Oaxaca. Thanks Catherine!
Frida Kahlo / Frida on the bench, 1939, Photograph by Nickolas Muray
After the tour, we meandered back to Oxalis to be greeted by beautiful flowers and table settings thanks to Soleil Jacobson and Anna Gurvits.
Andrew Cornell Robinson was the highlight of dinner. Not only was his artwork on the table for thought and inspiration, he lead the group in an exercise of exquisite corpse.
Yes! We make you do work before we eat at our events! Andrew has collected all the drawings to do a new art project. Can’t wait to see them!! 😊
We would like to thank our partners, Eric Berger, Cristina F. Debrito and Michael A. Guild at UBS for working with us to create such a memorable evening.
Special thanks to Bob Pierot, Stephanie García, Rodrigo Valles, Greg Berg and Steve Wong and the team at Oxalis for putting up with our shenanigans.
