We didn't have any punishment for our students or any real policies In our school. The district allows them to not have their camera on. When you accept yourself as you are, flaws and all, a wonderful thing happens. You stop berating yourself for eating poorly and think instead of how you can beat nourish your body. You stop working out to lose weight or get buff and choose exercise for lifelong health benefits instead. You create a positive mental attitude that’s open to learning, unhindered by negative belief patterns that hold you back. Your emotions stabilize as you stop taking everything others do so personally. As a teacher, the last one has been a big one for me. I had to overcome the notion that my students’ academic success defined my worth as a teacher. If you continue to look for validation through external factors, you’ll never find what you need. What you need is to take some of that huge capacity you have to care for others and turn it to yourself. Work on your flaws without berating yourself that you have them. Overcome perfectionism by accepting that you are perfectly imperfect just the way you are, always learning/changing/growing. Most importantly: take care of yourself because no one else can do it for you. Don’t do self care as another “to do” or because your employer copped out of responsibility for putting too much on your plate. That’s not self care, that’s a boundary issue. Instead, choose to accept your worth and know that by showing up for yourself, you better show up for those you care for.
