Love the linguistic parallel here, but it’s kinda concerning 9th graders can’t spell tragedy, a fairly common word. It’s not like it’s something a little more odd like “euphemism” or similar examples.
The education system is failing those kids.
Another year, another group of my delightful ninth graders trying to spell the word "tragedy" for their Romeo and Juliet assignment.
Last year's collection
#i started questioning how to spell it myself#but again... at least they knew the right answer#i love them endlessly#teacherblr#teacher life#teaching#english class#english teacher#grammar#literature#it’s very loveable#but are they 9 or 14/15?#cause if they are 15 someone needs to talk to their previous teachers

July 17 2023 | ☀️
The last couple of days before summer break are always chaotic. Pretty much none of the students want to work any longer, so coming up with alternative activities has started to become challenging. My go-to moves are watching Harry Potter (they love imitating the British accent lol) and Kahoot quizzes. This time it was to sum up our reading of "Looking for Alaska". I also prepared farewell gifts for my students. I'm a lot better at writing down my thoughts and feelings than saying them out loud, so I decided to give them little appreciation letters.

Update of my Life: Diary of a Lost Dreamer
When I take a moment to look back at my life and analyze my emotions along my path, I feel really old. It is a weird sensation. When I realize that I am just 22 years old and I have a whole set of chapters to explore, I am filled with nostalgic sadness.
I am trying not to be hard on myself for not planning my future one year ahead of my graduation. I was lost, I am still lost, but things have worked out in a curious way. When I returned from my trip to Europe to visit my brother, I felt the hurry to get a job, to have money, so I got a job as a customer service agent. I quit after 6 months, because the campaign took some decisions that severely affected us, employees. Then, I was unemployed for 5 months, and I must admit that I was having a hard time; applying to every offer I stumbled upon, sending my CV hundreds of times and getting no results.
Money was running out, and I was this close to return to a call center when, one month ago, I received a call for a high school teacher position. Thru networking in the tennis group of my area, my CV ended at the recruiter's hands. It was a big challenge, the position was for a technology teacher, I studied physics. I would need to teach one of my weaknesses, electronics, and one of my strengths, programming. However, I took the challenge and prepared my class simulation and my interview.
I got hired! :), oh but now I need to work almost everyday :(. Just kidding. I am grateful for the opportunity but it has been tough these weeks. I have no teaching experience and I think my personality sometimes is not suitable for the job. This whole thing is a "fake it til you make it" taken to the next level. I already cried two times, but here I am, still standing?
I am thinking all the time in pursuing my masters degree, is what I love, and I hope with my soul that I can build my life around astronomy. The plan for now is to wait how this education path goes, and save money. Maybe in 2025 I can continue with my studies, I feel scared and still unprepared, like a little child. Discipline, unfortunately, has not been in my dictionary since I graduated. So, I expect this whole experience to teach me how to learn, cause as they say, the one that can teach kids can teach anything to anyone. And teaching is learning! I want to prove to myself that I can learn and feel passion again.
I am doing fine, or that's what I am trying to convince myself. Let's keep going <3

Our job as EDUCATORS is not limited to the teaching of a language. Our first duty is to place a tiny portion of influence on how they view the world as they develop their own personality. To become confident, to stand up for what they believe, to respond to bullies, to resist when others try to intimidate them, to broaden their horizons through books. To BE THERE for them.
And guys, we just HAVE TO learn those participles, okay?

Hey, I have a question for the teachers of tumblr. Would there be an issue with a teacher having a nanny cam in the classroom? Kind of like a body cam for a police officer.
I’m hoping to become a teacher one day, currently I’m hoping to work with kindergartners or elementary aged special ed students. But for my students safety and my own, since I live in a red state and am an openly gay woman.
I’ve also heard too many horror stories of teachers being accused of abuse by parents who have a bone to pick, not to mention I’m also hoping that I can protect any students from abuse or bullying.
Please let me know and spread this so I can get more opinions.

We, another student and i, were supposed to read a text and interview each other for our course in didactics. He deadass just copied this entire text into chatgpt and then typed in the questions i asked him. Half the responses didn't answer the question! Dude's going to be a teacher!

historical pirates resources
cw for rape, violence, torture, death.
A general history of the pyrates free ebook over at The Project Gutenberg.
Real Pirates podcast' "Unlikely Allies": A five part series on Blackbeard and Stede Bonnet (1, 2, 3, 4, 5). Historically accurate, slightly dramatized, includes interviews with official biographers and historians. This whole podcast narrates a history of piracy using popular ones as a thread. Haven't listened to all of them but the quality is amazing and they cite sources if you wanna keep reading.
The last podcast on the left made three episodes on the life of Blackbeard with some mentions of Hornigold and Stede Bonnet (1, 2, 3). A layman's take on piracy. First episode does a deep dive on life as a pirate and as a sailor, does not cite sources.

Took the certification exam for teaching middle school science yesterday, spent two weeks stressing and studying because I haven't had any kind of test since starting grad school
I made a 275!! Not only did I pass, I passed at a professional level!! 🎉🎉 It's also important to note that this was a 2 hr long exam and I finished it in 1 hr even with checking my work twice! That two weeks of stress was worth it
#exams#studyblr#teachblr#teacherblr#teacher#educator#at least i will be#my mother was super passive aggressive about my exam for some reason and it bummed me out after getting so excited about it

One of my fav random interactions I've had in the middle school I teach in
Me: *walking in the hallway* *a bunch of students blocking the hall*
Me: excuse me!
Random girl walking past: you guys are gonna run over [MY TEACHER NAME]
Other students: sorry
Me: no worries
Me: *walks away* who was that girl?? How does she know my name??
I always find it funny when the kids are protective of random teachers they never see
